    Storyline of the character Joel deserved a better resolve, that's all i can say without spoiling much and the gane trailers released by naughty dog were deceiving beyond comprehension.

    The story needed to be a strong part of the game's appeal, like in the first, so that's what I'll concentrate on and choose a score for. The rest of it? Fantastic production values and technical merit.     The rest of it? Fantastic production values and technical merit. Not so good are the gameplay that is quite dated and only slightly improved from the first. Skill trees are linear and seem like an after thought. You can see the graphics and hear the sound etc for yourself so you'll know what to expect in those regards.

    So, the story. It fails. Druckmann is in love with his vision to the detriment of the story. He seemingly thinks, 'Look how unrelentingly violent and dark my game is, therefore it's mature and deep', but it just doesn't work.

    Almost all the characters are shallow and one-dimensional with naught to express but hate and spitefulness, always prepared to cruelly lash-out even when there's no apparent cause or reason, even when it would be in their interest to not do so. It feels like they are artificially hellbent on destruction just to accommodate Druckmann's obsession. It's totally implausible that you'd have such a long-line of malicious individuals all interacting with each others lives like this. It's all so contrived, as is the way the main character's lives keep weaving together.

    I kept watching their behaviour thinking, 'You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes'. I couldn't feel sorry for them, I couldn't feel anything terrible was happening - they pretty much all just reap what they sow and they only have themselves to blame in a way that, instead of making me engrossed, just made me view it impassively, like a far-removed bystander. They were too shallow to care about or believe.

    If you saw a bunch of bandits and criminals constantly getting into petty disputes and killing each other, would you really care?

    We've seen stories like this so many times and done by better writers. Many of the key scenes seem to have been simply plucked from various movies, games and shows (like a pick'n'mix) then simply shoved in without any skill. Sin City torture, Game of Thrones sex scene, Witcher 3 snowball fight, Walking Dead 'everyone's behaving like animals', basic TV show soap opera 'selfishness leading to neglected duties that lead to tragedy', etc, etc. All this stuff having been done before isn't the problem though, it's the paint-by-numbers delivery that's the problem.

    Not to mention the countless times the game talks down to the player (do they realise people 35+ might have been interested in this game?) by using the rote 'revenge breeds revenge' motif.

    The ending in particular is incredibly cliched and plays out in a completely unconvincing way; it's just bizarre and completely without motive. Is it just there to say, 'Haha! Not what you expected, eh?' Except I did expect it for reasons that are spoilery so I won't go into it. Honestly, it was so cliched that all that was missing was Ellie looking into a mirror to see her hatefilled face - before smashing it in rejection.

    Tarantino once said, 'Don't jerk off your audience for 2 hours and then have no money shot'. This game does it for 30 and leaves you unfulfilled.

    The original's themes of love and family were much less used in gaming and the motivations of the characters much more relatable, imho. A wasted opportunity and a game that I suspect will not be remembered particularly well once the dust has settled and the consensus declares all those ridiculous 10/10's to be nonsense. This will be a Mass Effect 3 type thing but with people's grievances being aimed at most of the story, rather than just the ending.

    I hope ND make sure there's more than one 'top dog' for their next game.

    To finish with, here's some bullets point musings.

    -Joel in the 1st game: 'Never trust strangers, never take unnecessary risks'.

    -Joel Part 2, 'Howdy pardners, my name's Joel, would you like to see our village?'.

    -Ellie Part 1: 'Gee, kids before the apocalypse had it so easy. I'd never take the gifts they had for granted. All I want is a family'.

    -Ellie Part 2: 'God, this village with food, water and security, full of friends, a woman I love and a strong community sucks ass! It's sooooo lame! My life has no meaning!'.

    Druckmann: 'Using all-new characters in the sequel would have been cowardly, Ellie and Joel's story needs to continue'. *proceeds to make a game only about Ellie and a stranger while also introducing a bunch of new characters*

    Druckmann: 'I want to make people feel things', creates a story using one of the most used themes of all time and adds nothing new. Gives the player no choice/consequence, thereby leaving them detached onlookers.    … Expand

    I loved The Last of Us 1. Now that I’ve seen the ending of the second I can only consider this sequel to be what every naysayer claimed it to be: an absolute bastardisation of everything the first game was from a story perspective. It plays okay, but so do other games. This wrecks the entirety of what made the first game so special.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's hard to understand the scene where Abby notices and kills Joel. I can understand the story. But how did Abby know that he was chasing the character only by hearing that his name was Joel?
    It knocked us out of shapely. Rather than revenge, we felt as if our bond had been broken down.
    Ellie, of course, can't make rational judgments in that' ellie just want revenge. Therefore, we have to hurt innocent people as many times as we did before.
    We even have to manipulate the character Abby who hurt Joel on our own. Do we want to play a game? Joel, who was selfish in his previous work but spared no effort to protect his daughter-like Ellie, faced a disastrous end. If you're a fan of the Last of Us, can you continue the game with Abby?

I don't have a problem with people of various genders, nationals, races, interests, and so on. It is just a very very bad alternative universe that doesn't exist in the mainline as for many people.     If you've never read a book or even seen a movie about revenge you'd like it. Otherwise it's cliche and boring. Revenge is bad, duh. (it's also not, revens is as good as the reason is)

    Seven years to create an offline game, and what we see is basically the same as TLOU1, and with a worse, much worse story. When will companies understand that mixing politics with games is not a good idea? Good graphics, but nothing extraordinary.

    Not worth the effort, and Sony blacklisting people for negative review is just sad, investing in new Xbox and game pass way more value than the crap I got for sequel of a beloved game with nothing other than graphical improvements.

    Let me say that I absolutely loved the first TLOU. I gave it a 10/10. The graphics on this are outstanding but they really try to throw LGBT content at you without any real premise. They are really doing it to be controversial and it really sticks out like a sore thumb. TLOU was one of if not my favorite games and I waited years to play this game. I really tried to avoid the spoilers thatLet me say that I absolutely loved the first TLOU. I gave it a 10/10.     When the leaks hit and the director started screaming at people on twitter that if they didn't regard his work was a masterpiece or they're bigots... that's when I decided I'll rent it first from Redbox. Meanwhile dank memes flowed on subforums, and Sony hired third party goons who sent out illegal DCMA takedowns against youtubers and redditors. That made the trolls even more determined expose The Last of Us 2 for what it was. They even used super harsh embargos on pre-release/view copies while sold-out media jurnos gave it 100%s for fear of being blacklisted by Sony.

    Sad to say but this game is beyond tainted. I'm done with anything Naughty Dog or Neil Druckmann related. I couldn't stomach The Last of Us 2 after the first hour in, and thanks to the garbage people involved with the project, I didn't want to give it a second chance. This has been an embarrassment for the entire industry. Nothing stunning and brave about rushing this out just in time for "everything is gay" month of June. The disgusting portrayal of this patchwork abortion doesn't do the original Last of Us any justice or its fans what so ever. I'll give it a 1 out of 10 for nice graphics, but they couldn't even get that right since they never hit 60fps. Two thumbs down.    … Expand

In no way do would I want or expect Joel to be killed off from the story the way he was (trying to not include too many spoilers). Ellie's story of revenge tour to then have it change at the end is piss poor story writing in my opinion as well. Also, the whole trying to force me liking Abby is piss poor story writing as well. I honestly wish this game's story and plot could be completely rewritten by different people. I don't mind that Joel dies or if you even want to include Abby play-through in the game still but it needs a total rework in my opinion.… Expand

Playing as the person who killed that character off makes me hate it. I get the premise but execution sucks. Games isn't overall fun. It was in the first one, played multiple times, but the this one seemed tedious. I don't want to see both sides, I was enthralled in the Joel and Ellie story then thrown into this, it just sucks. I get there are two sides to the story but don't make me play as the side I don't want to play. Same with God of War Ragnarök, last thing I want to play as is a petulant son who makes the same mistake multiple times. You want me to take a story I loved and ruin it.     El videojuego es de 7 si analizamos todo el conjunto. Graficamente es muy bueno y bonito, sonora y musicalmente también. En la jugabilidad no hay apenas demasiada innovación, el poder tumbarse le da un plus muy interesante. Por lo demás sigue en la linea de su antecesor.

    Pero como la historia para mi era lo más importante, y viendo los bots dando 10 que no se lo merece, la media debe quedarse en un 5, un castigo al equipo por su afán de creerse dueños del mundo e imponer su ideología extremista basada en destruir al femenismo natural.

    Mujeres violentas y masculinizadas matando hombres blancos. Matando y mofando a los creyentes con una crítica superficial.

    People will try and tell you if you dislike the game you are a bigot or anti-lgbt. They will dismiss any complaints about the story line as illegitimate. The game puts unneeded focus on a new character that most people will just not care about and the game doesn't really give us any reason to care for.

I mean it's incredible how dirty Sony & Naughty Dog were with it - striking people's channels down on social media sites for even discussing the game in an unfavorable manner. Full of disgusting political ideology. Ruining existing characters that people love.I have a friend who got a review copy and I was able to chat with him a bit after the NDA was lifted - just wow is this game bad.     Joel is brutally murdered by Abby, a character that had absolutely no bearing on the original game's story.

    You play as Abby for half the game, as the writers try to give this shoehorned 'character' reason to exist in the script.

    The gameplay is boring, and copied in full from the first game with no meaningful change. It's pretentious rule-of-thirds-style camera stands in defiance of the exploration and combat; it takes 'looking nice' to be more important than being functional.

    There is not a single reason that this should've been a game over a movie or series. There is not a single aspect of the story that is enhanced by interactivity.

This is a gaming company and they make money by putting smiles on our faces by giving us a fun game to enjoy. At least that is how it should be, instead Naughty Dog is indulging in the destruction of an IP to put a smile on their own faces. Why did they do this!? What did they possibly think they could achieve!?

    The only thing that the developers seemed to truly cared about is pushing a specific agenda. I don't want to be bothered with anything like that at all, because it destroys my escapism. I just want to play a video game, not be lectured. To make matters worse, I don't agree with these viewpoints at all.

    As a standalone game I would give it 4/10, but for destroying something I loved and cherished so much, that score is dropping to catastrophic 1/10.

    Naughty Dog and Sony have been sent a message by the fans and I truly hope that they reflect upon that and do everything in their power prevent a catastrophe like this from ever happening again.    … Expand

    Gameplay is pretty much the same as the original but without puzzles, nothing new or surprising. Story of the sequel makes the original become pointless and they force you to care for new, plain characters underdeveloped. There's a twist in the middle of the game where the creators think they're the new Hitchcock but they're only being pretentious. Slow developing and boring gameplay

    Wow, what can I say about this steaming pile of garbage? First of all, it made me sick to my stomach to see them waste the only like able character. But the ending is worst. AND the whole game feels like it has some political agenda. I give it 1 since the graphics is too notch. I’d actually recommend waiting for a used copy in a couple of years - don’t support this nonsense.

    What made the first a masterpiece was not its gameplay, but its characters and story. It was a journey of loss and gain, of despair and salvation, of a father and daughter. How a father would do anything to protect his daughter.

    This game fails to capture that at all. Taking all the ham-fisted agenda out of the mix as well as the actions taken by Naughty Dog and Sony in the lead up to the release...the story itself is just poorly told. We get no payoff to the events that concluded the first game. You get Joel acting uncharacteristically stupid, being emasculated, and then being unceremoniously slaughtered right off the bat. Die patriarchy. But it also means we get no resolution between Joel and Ellie in relation to the conclusion of the first game.

    No one gives a hoot about Abby. She’s not a compelling character. She’s not a likable character. Yet we’re stuck with her for much of the game. And then when all is said and done we don’t even get a proper resolution to the revenge story arc. Ellie kills hundreds of people just to let Abby live, because reasons. Abby accomplishes her goal. Woohoo. Meanwhile Ellie has lost everything. Her father, her partner, her fingers, her friends...but hey...crippling depression is all the rage.

    You have a ton of media either kissing its rear because of its “progressive themes” or because they are afraid of losing access. It’s not THAT good. Get real. And then you have a lot of fanboys and fangirls that haven’t yet come to terms with how bad the story actually is. This is a “The Last Jedi” situation through and through.     I bought a PS4 to play Red Dead Redemption 2, after playing TLOU2 I'm now thinking of selling it. Utter trash, I've never felt so depressed after playing a game. Games are meant to be fun, or at least make you think, this game made me want to end my life.

    This game does not rise to the level of distinctive games, but not its goal to enjoy playing and contains a large amount of disgusting anomalies, and this is not appropriate and outside the correct human nature.

The last of us was good at storytelling, and the part 2 is a joke. Naughty Dog, at least you need to get us a free DLC for another ending. This one sucks.… Expand

    This sequel has beautiful graphics, but that's about it. The story is awful. If you just made a summary of the plot, you'd think it was satire. The characters (those that survive) are terrible.     A story focused game with extremely poor storytelling. It doesn't matter how pretty you make your game, if the gameplay is average, the story is bad and the characters unrelatable.

    The last of us didn't need a sequel and this game adds nothing to do the universe.

    The entire second half just took such an unexpected and, most importantly, unwanted turn of events for me. Even reaching the point of having to fight Ellie...? What the F?
    Honestly my trust in Naughty Dog making exceptional stories died with this one. This feels to me exactly like the final season of GoT, a total disaster and a spit in the face of the fans.    … Expand

    I give this game a 1 because I feel sorry for the developers who had to work on this disaster. Story is a huge letdown. Game play is average at best, nothing special. It would not be a problem though, if at least the story was amazing, but of course it isn't. All the trailers I have seen so far were misleading. Everything ND has shown to us was a LIE.     Delecnable, este juego se puede definir muy facilmente con dos palabras, MAL GUSTO, pero además un mal gusto forzado, no me puedo creer lo que han hecho con la saga, y sobretodo lo que han hecho que un personaje que no diré nada más de ello por no hacer spoiler por si alguno quiere jugarlo.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
