The first game set a standard of beautiful story telling, and this does the opposite - quality story telling has been set aside in favor of making a political statement. It doesn't matter how sympathetic I am to the cause, or how much I stand for the right to use your platform to make a statement -- when you sacrifice the quality of your product for it, you're just a shill. I was so mad when I started to write this review I was going to give it a 0 but to be fair the graphics are fantastic, but that is about all I can say good about the game.

I will be completely honest, I have not yet completed the game but I know how it ends from the many reviews I have read. Knowing the ending of a story does not spoil the experience for me so I often read spoilers on games and movies and still enjoy them.
I doubt the ending will bother me as much as it seems to have bothered everyone else but I will not know that till i get there, If i get there, there are so many other things to hate about this game I don't know if I will even bother finishing it

The game mechanics are stale at best and frustrating most of the time There is no real improvement over the first game, the crafting system is almost identical and in some ways worse. I was always full of supplies with the exception of 1 item. sometime it was tape, sometimes it was alcohol but you can bet it was always something just way to scarce on every level. It was the same with ammo.

I get it you have to be smart with your supplies to make it thru a level but if that is what they were going for they failed, you don't have to be smart with supplies. you just have to know what they are going to be shorting you on any given level and don't use it, you will have plenty of something else to get you thru. What is the plan there? is it supposed to be fun to fail at a level and replay it once you know what supplies they will give you? it does not force you to come up with a strategy to get thru just get lucky or replay after you have the answer.

The Infected are not hard to fight, just time consuming, the bosses on the other hand are ridiculous, for me at least it is more about luck then skill to beat them, run around and hammer them with whatever you find till they die. again no real strategy there just try try again till you find what you need to kill them.

And for god's sake could you please continue more than 1 second before you are killed. I mean come on, If i learn i need pipe bombs or the flame thrower to kill it why cant i restart the fight with the knowledge i learned while it just killed me. No, continue smash, no time to re adjust you setup, just right back in it. They don't really let you play your own way. I like to play stealth as much as possible but you are forced to run and gun so much. they have the leveling system set up as if you can play thru the game in different ways but you really can not. you have to stealth where you have to, and you have to Rambo it in other places. no real choice.

I fairly deep into the second 1/2 of the game ,or so I assume based on what I know, and the one thing i can tell you is who ever was in charge of character development should be brought in for a performance review.
in truth it is not fair to blame 1 person, everyone had to know this game would be hated by the "Last of US" fans, the story and characters are so bad, no one at naughty dog could have miss it. (naughty dog in lower case on purpose, you guys and gals have a lot of work to do if you want to get a "N" and "D" from me again anytime soon). It is sad, the first game was so good, it seems improbable that the second one could be so bad.

I played the "Last Of Us" several time. I would go back to find more hidden items or just relive the story. everyone you met in the first game had depth. you felt that the character was pulled from someones real life event or felling, It was not just Joel and Ellie, everyone in the game felt real, you loved some people, you hated others, but everyone had a reason for who they were.

Last of Us Part II could not have been worst.
I don't care about anyone in this game. I don't even hate anyone, It is hard to love or hate the flat cardboard cutouts they are calling characters
Joel and Ellie are flat, there is just nothing there, if it was not for the 1st game I would not care about them either.

Everyone else in the game is as deep and the letter or number I assume they were assigned in the story outline they should have just named them all 1.2.3 or a.b.c. There is just nothing there.

On the up side if you cant write a good story you can always cram some woke character traits into your characters so you can call everyone a "phobe" or "hater" if they complain. making a character gay or trans is not the same as making a character real or deep, it is just a cheat,

Before you send the woke police after me, I have nothing against gay, bi, trans or anyone for that matter (I am sorry if I forgot to mention a group everyone is loved and respected
I hope I used all the right words to describe people in this section. everyone should be who they are and is respected as a person not for their pronoun.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us 2 is a mess of a game. The gameplay itself is extremely dated and doesn't build upon the first games mechanics, making them feel stagnant in comparison. The story however, is worse. I dont hold any grudges to the game's developers or writers, but the story is just horrendous. First off they killed off a fan favourite character in a very unceremonious way, almost abandoning what his character was built on. Second they force you to play as a new character who's only "connection" to the story is killing joel. The whole motivation of ellie's development was revenge on abby for removing her father figure, the same way joel removed her own father. But the whole game is a bait and switch. Nothing comes out of the story other than the death of a beloved character, the mutilation of the character we protected throughout the first game and nothing else. It was all for nothing, no pay off, no satisfaction of killing a character who essentially tormented ellie, all for nothing. I hated this game, I hated playing it, the seraphites hardly show up, despite the trailers implying that they had a large role to play. And the infected take a back seat.
I wasnt expecting joel to survive to the end of the game. But they proved how little they cared about the characters and the fans with this atrociously written, virtue signalling game. All in all?
    I hated it.

I like games like Bioshock and Fallout(1&2) because they don't use cinematic to tell their story, instead new ways of storytelling are developed which makes the game unique. And if I am just going to get a cinematic why would I spend so much money on a video game when movies are better and cheaper. The gameplay introduces a couple of new mechanics but remains essentially the same. Some of the levels do drag a bit, and without a solid story to push you through, the game becomes boring in parts.

The graphics and sound are outstanding. While some of the characters might be flawed and/or unlikeable, the voice acting is great as expected considering the talent involved. Sadly, it’s not enough to make the experience a good one.

Finally, the game was advertised as something completely different through deceptive advertising, false statements from the game makers, altered game footage and obvious manipulation/censoring of early reviews.

Of course, I have always loved diving into a game like Valorant or Overwatch or even a fun party game from time to time but story driven games will always have a special place in the world of gaming. Instead of being explicitly told a story, games allow us to come along for the ride. For The Last of Us 2, this is arguably for the worst. Although a technical and visual masterpiece, the story leaves the player manipulated into cheapening everything from the first game. The player is made to feel guilty for a murder that never was forced upon the player in the first game in the first place. Then the player is made to sympathize with a new character. I get it but I also don't care because the story is poorly paced and manipulative in how it portrays its characters. Ellie is demonized by the decisions you are forced to make and Abby never has to make said choices that would make the player feel conviction. It feels less like this moral grey area the writers thought they were making and more like forcing their feelings of the main characters onto the player. The writer's described their intentions as to "make the player question everything from the first game". This game made me really question every decision involving the writing in the second game. Neil Druckman and the writers really threw away what is otherwise a beautiful game with their heavy handed, shallow story telling that ultimately makes for an unsatisfying sequel. Expand

The combat and game play shine but the story is one giant sequence of torture porn where Ellie is turned to a monster, Joel gets the most undeserving and horrifying death and Abby is just one of the most horrible video game characters ever written. The Last of Us Part 1 is a masterpiece. This game spits in that games face and curb stomps it into the ground. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The narrative for this game is just a mess. Tells a tale of two people who sought revenge. One of them seems to have no issues with it and is perfectly fine emotionally. The devs have pushed the Ps4 to its limits and I was in shock and awe how great it looked. The story however is slow, full of many nee characters which dilute the game down so much. I didn’t really care about Dina or Jesses love triangle that was pushed on me. Boy oh boy, section two playing as Abbey was a snooze fest. Neil Druckman, I don’t care about two sides to the story gimmick. I savagely executed 100s of people in the game, who had no links to Joel and the only person you cannot kill the Abbey!!? Wtf

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a huge fan of the first game, it breaks my heart to write this. I can't express how disappointed I am with this game. The graphics, and game play were great, but I was here for a great story and it fell flat on it's face. Everything with Ellie was great, and the story was advancing beautifully... and than I had to control Abby? The person who killed Joel? The person who I've been trying to kill for over a dozen hours? Am I supposed to emphasize with her, because I didn't. The entire story portion of the Abby story was awful and everything felt unbelievably forced. The ending had no resolution... zero. Ellie travels across the country, giving up her girlfriend and "son" and doesn't kill Abby? Zero resolution. I spent 25 hours for nothing essentially. Joel was dead and Abby was alive in the first 2 hours of the game, and at the end it was the same exact thing. I don't know what Naughty Dog was thinking. Maybe they wanted to try to be "deep", but this has been a huge disappointment for me, all due to extremely poor story telling. I am going to delete this from my system and pretend like it doesn't exist. The first game was a masterclass in both game play and story telling, and while the game play was top notch, fans of the first should not be able to get over how poorly the story was told in this. They said they would not make DLC and now I'm happy about that. I hope they let this series go because it's a shame what they did to it. Expand

However, it is difficult to tolerate the present work, whose humanity and affection before the pandemic disappeared from the root.
Negative emotions are too great to make Joel a foremost player by putting Joel on the forefront.
It seems like a consistent theme from the previous work, and I will never be convinced by the sequel that lost sight of how to convey the theme.

Elie wants to forgive Joel's sin
Elie wants to forgive Abby's sin
A player wants to forgive Joel's sin
Feeling that the player wants to forgive Abby's sin (high difficulty).

    Everything is off.
Personally, I think that players cannot be immersed in the last Erie's disappointment unless everything is tied with equality.
Even if Ellie's disappointment is shown from a bird's-eye view, I can't feel the weight of Joel's death, and above all I can't feel the weight of the gameplay.

Do you want to draw opposite ego?
Do you want to draw Ellie's forgiveness and liberation?
After all, it's just an unpleasant game experience

TLOU1 Suspension bridge through action game The player's emotions that increase effectively cause a chemical reaction with a scenario that draws two distorted love

TLOU2 wanted the player to build a complicity relationship with the character through an action game, and to create an immersive feeling in a scenario that makes you feel guilty and disappointed, but the script is too bad and it is not functioning.
I think what Neil tried to do was an experimental and interesting idea. If all went well, I think it was a great gaming experience. However, the result was the worst game.

He completely betrayed his fans by immersing himself in the best gaming experience of the previous game.
It's just unpleasant and bad taste, and what remains after clearing is the feeling of emptiness and fatigue.

I used the previous work as a tool to evoke this **** feeling. And I don't feel the need at all. Nothing is convincing.

You don't have to create what your fans want.
However, it is unforgivable to insult the fans who supported you and the story of Joel and Erie from the bottom of your life.

The volume and making of the gameplay part is wonderful, and it can be said that it is an orthodox evolution of the previous work.
    That's not enough.
It's painful just to imagine playing the second lap because you're forced to play a game that violently tells a story or violates player feelings. This is an incredibly horrifying flaw in the game.

Not only fans, Naughty Dog betrayed many people who made this game together.

Extended length made the mechanics feel tired and too repetitive by the end, and lack of integrated multiplayer is another major missed step (I definitely won't be paying for a stand alone). Graphics are great, but not enough to save the game and it's poorly written story and characters. Why was there so much ammo in every drawer, but so limited space in the massive rucksack!? Never felt pressured to use ammo sparingly like in the first game, and couldnt shake off the feeling that the game was doing all it could to make me dislike Ellie (which I couldn't) and like Abbey (which I couldn't). The more they tried, the less I did. An insult to the intelligence of the customer. Disappointing to see Naughty Dog use the vile abuse from a minority to distract from the fact that the game is a major let down to the loyal fan base of the original. Instead of admitting "We made mistakes", siege mentality very much instilled. And as for industry "professional" critic reviews, very much to be taken with a bowl of salt. I think it's a mixture of getting caught up in the hype, being scared to lose early access, but user reviews are generally more reliable anyway. Expand

Loved the original game, this one....not so much.

Graphics and atmosphere are top notch. However there is no way this is a 10/10. Games like Bioshock, GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, Fallout NV are 10/10 games that are replayble, this is not.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finished the game last week and I'm really disappointed with the story.

Everyone on team Ellie is great.

The problem is Abby. ND forces the player into Abby's perspective and tries to get the player to empathize with her. The problem is Abby is never confronted with her own atrocities. She starts off by brutally torture killing Joel. Given how popular Joel is with fans that's a lot of heat to introduce a new character with. To explain her actions ND reveals that Joel killed her father and Abby is consumed with revenge. Okay great, now why do I have to play this character for 10-12 hours as ND tries to humanize it and fails

As a member of the Fireflies she would have taken part in bombing Fedra checkpoints. Then she joins the WLF and stays long enough to gain Isaac's trust committing untold violent acts. She clearly has no problem killing other people's fathers. Game completely sanitizes her WLF history. Instead she plays with dogs and jokes around with her friends. The storytelling is absolutely contrived.

At one point she chooses to help some kids that become her allies to gain player sympathy. Contrived. For her big face turn she wastes her time by going on a mission to get a med kit for one of the kids. Then she chooses to leave the WLF by siding with these kids she has known for less than two days. Contrived. The choice between a "bad guy" group and kids is extremely cliche. She even kills WLF members she knows by name and presumably has known for years for these allies she has known for less than 2 days. Contrived. This all conveniently happens in the same 4 day period that Ellie is looking for Abby. Again Abby plays with dogs, helps random kids, goes on lifesaving med kit mission, and sides against her evil WLF group. But not once does the story mention the messed up stuff she would have been apart of just one week earlier as a high ranking WLF member. The whole thing is pointless contrived nonsense.

To top it off the last mission is ridiculous. Ellie travels hundreds of miles on a rumor of an Abby sighting because Ellie is still haunted by visions of Joel. Ellie fights hordes of goons for her chance to finish Abby only to let Abby go at the last moment. Ellie kills hundreds of goons in this game, why would she suddenly care about one more? The story's themes do not match the game play at all.

I do not recommend this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This games story is genuinely extremely disappointing. The gameplay has not changed since 2013 however it’s still fun and the graphics are great but there’s pros don’t make up for having to play 15 hours as Abby who doesn’t have any character development towards realizing that she was wrong. Also not to mention the false advertising of ND portraying Joel to be in the main story only to have them switch it to Jesse at full release. The story is just a true dumpster fire and completely and entirely spits on the first game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is bad to say the least, first there is the part of the soundtrack, TLOU2 has one that in my opinion is excellent, I will give it that to Naughty dog, but anyone will agree that this is something that TLOU2 cannot hang on as games such as Undertale, which despite having a great story, its strongest point is the soundtrack that gave us as many memorable pieces as Megalovania.

Now we go with the gameplay mechanics, TLOU2 has practically the same game mechanics as TLOU1 so there is not so much to analyze, except that they are good / decent for the genre, however, it does not shine here either as it could be the case of Sekiro, Mirror's Edge or even Dark Souls at the time that due to the lack of a clear story or the level of many other installments, they sought to shine with phenomenal game mechanics for their genres and that gave immersion.

Graphics, here if I have to accept it, Naughty dog really showed off what they can do, however, graphics should not be, in any case, something that a game can hang on, unless you want to be a kind of advanced simulator of some style. There are many incredible games that do not have the luxury of showing off with their graphics and still give incredible quality games such as Undertale, Limbo, celeste, etc.

Finally, the most important thing in this genre is the narrative / story, in which TLOU failed miserably, the story is of the revenge format, however, in the end Ellie ends up forgiving Abby which is the main reason why her odyssey began and don't take it the wrong way, that's a good idea, if it is executed correctly, but the problem here is that Ellie killed all those who stood in her way to reach Abby, like, perhaps they had families, friends, etc(?) So there is no point in Ellie's final decision, at least end what you have already started, plus, people didn't want to play like Abby, they wanted to kill her and help Ellie do it, they essentially forced the player to do something they didn't want to by half a game and with a flat character with little or no evolution throughout the game. Looking for a good story of revenge or redemption? Look at examples such as God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, Shadow of the Collosus, Assassins Creed Origins, among many, many others. So yeah, overall, the game doesn't give justice to what its predecessor was, it is just plain bad in the most important camp it had to shine. 2/10 I would like my money back

Before I start, I ask that you consider the opinions of others, at least with the audience reviews. Though many people provide something vague, misspelled, or generally unhelpful in their reviews for both the positive and negative, it should be taken into account that those who bought the game for the sole purpose of loving or hating it in such a hyperbolic way are in the vast minority. Most people are genuinely happy or frustrated, and though the June 19th reviews aren't a very good way to look at the whole of the game, they shouldn't be completely dismissed.

I made this account to give a lower score than I had given this game in my initial review. When I tried to log into my previous account, I couldn't reset my password, the website refused to load multiple times, and though I'm not going to start getting conspiratorial about the reasons, I was frustrated enough with nothing working that I decided to make another account to give a lower score than the 4 I first gave it.

I already thought the game was unenjoyable. I'd be okay with it not being fun, but outside of the game's visuals, audio, and some great setpieces that were scattered here and there, There's very little to appreciate.

The game seems to have fallen into the trap that a lot of entertainment I enjoyed until recently has: it puts too much emphasis on big narrative/thematic moments and not enough on what builds up to them. You can see that in The Last Jedi (and the ninth movie, but after it its predecessor so thoroughly derailed the trilogy, I can't help but at least commend JJ Abrams for the attempt), Suicide Squad, the 11th and 12th seasons of Doctor Who, the finale of Steven Universe, and from what I've heard, the 8th season of Game of Thrones. The game often hinges upon coincidence or contrivance, characters often make choices that seem to lack buildup or justification, and characters' personalities change drastically and without the player knowing why until it's too late for one's immersion. Like some of the aforementioned entertainment, many of this game's characters are uninteresting, and while the player is supposed to be invested in them via proximity to various protagonists, there are barely any characters that are interesting on their own.

While gameplay has been slightly expanded, it's almost dishonest to say that you have more options than before. The levels are more sprawling, and you have more freedom of movement, but levels are also way more confusing to navigate as a result. Stealthing through sections is nigh impossible on the first go, which forces you into combat unless you want to save scum. In the first game, combat felt raw, but in this one, it feels downright brutal. The ways that you kill people and their various companions are just as detailed as the landscapes, and the amount of violence made those sections awful to play. The only way I could go through with killing people in this game is by actively trying to de-immerse myself from those sections. A lot of the time, the only reason I kept playing was to see whether I'd like whatever came next. As stated before, I rarely did.

To compare this game to the first Last of Us (which I replayed to ensure I'm not relying on rose-tinted glasses), it's a far cry from the greatness of the original. The characters in the first game were believable and interesting, as were the environments. It was definitely bleak at times, but it was never enough to make me put down the controller and take a break. With this game, I had to frequently. I realize that the interactions between the characters were a massive part of what made the first game so great, because no interactions in this game come close.

All of that was a 4 to me. I said in my previous review that I would've given it a 5, but that I wanted my score to reflect my enjoyment of the game. This new score is half of that 4 because the game has continued to bring down my mood long after I put down the controller. Never have I played something so completely, agonizingly depressing that I still feel worse for a multitude of weeks after.

I hate wasting my time. After seeing livestreams of the ending chapter I couldn't bring myself to play, I feel like all the time I put into that game, all the emotions I felt or forced myself not to feel, all the times I've thought about it, all the times it's made me depressed, bitter, or disappointed, all of it has been a complete waste of my time. The worst part about this game is that it's not easy to outright hate. I'd rather say "screw this game, it completely sucks", and leave it at that. I really wish I could, but it's not something I can so easily dismiss. I wanted to love this game, and now I just wish that someone could convince me to like it.

    Here's hoping.

I guess the best thing/fun thing about this game is playing the abby character. She was hilarious to play with. But the rest of the game was terrible.

OK. I absolutely loved TLoU Part 1 and was really looking forward to sequel. Got my hopes crushed!

Gameplay: more or less the same as the first part. Yes, they added a few details here and there, but it's not game changing. It's not why you play the game anyway. It's bearable, though sluggish controls don't make it easy. To be fair, sluggish controls are there for the most of 3rd/1st person console games.
Graphics: awesome. It's one of the best-looking games out there. Landscapes are breath-taking, animations are realistic.
Music: great. Not as atmospheric as the first part, but still very decent.
Story: pure, absolute **** It's not that the game gets hatred for LGBT characters, no. Or Abby's appearances. It's because:
    1. Joel gets killed in the first few hours in the game in a very cruel way by a nobody. Which he helped to survive. Which, for some reason, he starts to trust enough just to end up in a trap with her whole group. Joel. The guy you (I) invested in 3 playthroughs of TLoU, the guy that survived a metal fitting through his stomach, dies by hand of a nobody. Snap!
    2. Ellie loses her father-figure and is out for revenge, whatever it takes, she's willing to put everything on the line.
    3. Ellie is fierce, cruel and determined. She's like an icebreaker, doesn't much but her ultimate target. Just goes forward killing everything that stands in between her and that nobody.
    4. Just at the point where it all may end, you're forced to spend 10 hours exploring the nobody that killed your beloved character. The simple fact you're playing as Abby makes you puke, as you cannot possibly justify her actions - she has no backstory at all at this point.
    5. Yeah, Joel killed her father. Yeah, he had it coming. No, it's not enough to sympathize Abby.
    6. You get a bit of Abby's backstory with bleak supporting characters. Some of it just directed at making you emotional. You as Abby have to play with a dog that already know you as Ellie will kill in a couple of game-days.
    7. ...and it still doesn't make you sympathize with Abby. Even the fact she changes her mind about two innocent kids that belong to a rival faction, which she's supposed to kill on sight, doesn't help.
    8. When Abby confronts Ellie, you just want to break your controller in order not to hurt the character you've spent the whole first part, and the half of the second part. Do you have any choice? Nope.
    9. Fast-forward a few months, Ellie, having escaped death's hands in form of Abby, is having quiet, happy life. Wait, did I say happy? Sorry, nope, she still has flashbacks on Joel's death. She's still willing to put everything on the line, including her partner and their child to kill Abby. Determination!
    10. So she spends months to travel to California. And she's very set to get her revenge.
    11. She kills like 50 people to get to Abby in the last hour. Who knows how many has she killed before.
    12. When she gets to Abby, she just unties her and walks her to boats to escape. Is she letting her go? Looks like it...
    13. Nope, she has another flashback and she decides to get the revenge finally!
    14. Nope, after her two fingers are bitten off, she has ANOTHER flashback and lets Abby go. All determination is thrown out of the window.
    15. The great return: Ellie didn't get her revenge, lost her partner, her child, lost her quiet life, worsened her relationships with Tommy, and lost the ability to play the guitar. So she ditches the guitar and goes off wandering.
The message: Revenge is bad, mmmkay?

Unlikable characters, plot that sometimes doesn't make sense, desperate tricks to make you emotional and total failure to get the player to sympathize anyone but Ellie.

During the second part of the game, I lowered the difficulty to novice just to make Abby rush through the plot.

Ellie's decisions are driven by flashbacks.

    No, I won't replay this.

And no- I am not hating "because my favourite character died", or that there was LGBT representation, or that Abby was "Swoll" (I wish i could throw punches like her). I am awarding 1 score for the graphics, and 2nd score for the game play. The story, its plot-holes and other nonsensical things (like PREGNANT women going to war or a woman being A FEW WEEKS LATE on her period, venturing into a zombie-infested wild country) get absolute zero. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So, where to begin? Well, lets start with the good.

Graphics and sound desing is amazing, for a console. But we dont play games for their graphics now, do we? That would be like watching adult movies for plot. We all know we dont watch adult movies for plot.

Gameplay seems to me mostly unchanged from first game, with few minor tweaks. Not necessarily good or bad things, its just how things are. In story driven game, its really not that important, unless its infuriating towards the user.

What matters most in story driven game is story.

And oh boi, here we go.

Fact that they kill such major such as Joel for cheap drama, in such unsatysfying way, with that character acting way differently than in the last game, is your first indication for whats in store for you.
Then we have Ellie. She cant forgive someone who makes her "bigot sandwiches", or those 100 henchmens which she kills on her quest for revenge, but she spares the one person responsible for all her pain. Bravo Niel.
Abby is just... unlikable and hypocrite. Lets leave it at that.
And entire message of the story just falls short. Revenge is bad? Abby got her revenge and even though she faced some hardships, she got away in the end AND killed person responsible for biggest emotional loss of her life. She won.
Ellie? Ellie kills 100 henchmen on her way to Abby, yet when she finally is so close avenging Joel, she sudenlly thinks that "revenge bad". ffs.

And then we have all the controversy around ratings on metacritic.
People screamign that 0/10 ratings are not valid becasue people couldnt have played through entire story, yet people giving 10/10 ratings, those are totally valid and believable.
Then we have metacritic deleting bad ratings, because they are given by bots, yet they leave 10/10 ratings which are copypasta of těo sentences saying "Amazing game. Another masterpiece from Naughty Dog."
I bet you, go into 10/10 ratigns and browse for 10 minutes. You will find at least 50 of them.

As an avid fan of TLoU1 and the Left Behind DLC, I expected the same level of story-telling and character development in TLoU2. I was – and remain – sorely disappointed. Old characters feel like mere shadows of their previous selves, and new characters feel flat and one-dimensional. Relationships between characters seem disingenuous and central characters are remarkably capricious: swaying from one extreme emotion to another. I was disappointed by the representation of LGBTQ+ individuals... particularly Dina and Ellie's relationship, which felt unbelievable and completely devoid of chemistry. It felt like ND were exploiting LGBTQ+ characters as selling points, rather than creating rich and genuine-feeling LGBTQ+ characters. Mostly, though, the story was just cripplingly disappointing for me. Even before the 'twist' part-way through the game, I had largely lost interest. Joel dying was understandable, I honestly expected the cult to play more into Ellie's story judging by the pre-release material. Via that I expected Joel to give his life for Ellie. His death was grossly done, the revenge plot poorly handled. You spend far too much time playing as Abby. Looking into her past and a little of the life as a Wolf would have been fine, however, half the game was a bit much.
Characterwise, Jessie and Dina were wasted slots. Jessie existed literally only as a means to get pregnant just so that Dina could have a child. Dina's relationship with Ellie was sad as well. Their first two amorous moments are under the influence of alcohol and weed. Not the best way to start a relationship. I feel like Dina would have had more impact if she was a steady girlfriend to Ellie instead of a fling.
Her anger at Ellie leaving was honestly inconsiderate, Ellie is having PTSD, and struggling. Instead of allowing her closure, she tries to emotionally manipulate Ellie to stay, further hurting her. I was glad to see Dina gone, and not surprised by Jessie's death.
Abby, **** Abby. If we were supposed to sympathize with her, they failed. Her section dragged, it only proved further that all she enjoyed was killing.
Ellie's vengeance took a toll on her, she hurt each time she killed them. She looked sick. She wanted it to be over.
Abby just killed and barring the two people she spared from the seraphites, just kept killing without remorse. Cultists, Her own people, and Ellie's group. She had no care in how many lives she took, no remorse. She **** her Ex despite him having a pregnant girlfriend. They were all awful. I wanted them all dead.
Not killing Abby in the end, just was the icing on top. I feel like you should have had a choice. Kill Abby or don't. If you spare her, you get a better ending. A vengeance ending may leave the player personally satisfied, but perhaps give Ellie a worse ending, such as Dina leaving.

Joel's death could have been more impactful. If it had happened mid game, we would have had more feelings for it, instead of just anger. Example, if we had the characterization that Joel and Tommy had to be cautious like they were in the first game, perhaps Abby and her group could have tried to earn their trust by helping them clear out the swarm of infected where Abby was found
Speaking of, why was that not tied up. It was such a loose end and it bothers me personally.

TLDR Game pretty and works good. Characters and story not so good.

The story line not captivating and sorely lacks what the first game had to capture the players. The characters are bland and boring with one main character getting killed without and build up. The only likable characters are the none player characters and it sorely fails in the replay vlaveu area. The good parts of the game are the graphics and sound track

The gameplay and visuals are amazing as expected from naughty dog, but the story leaves such a bad taste in my mouth that it brings my experience down so much. It sounds harsh for poor writing to bring a score down this much but the in the case of the last of us 2, it does. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us Part 2. the Game that all the owners of the console were waiting for. But after playing it, they regretted the money they spent on it. The game is terrible: -Graphics. I'll start with a good one, because people working on species and other things have done a good job and the world is really atmospheric. Gameplay - for me this is a big minus, because for so many years I would like more changes in terms of gameplay. The plot - And here it will be hot, the first 2 hours pass more or less, all before the main character of part 1, Joel, is drained. Even though it Joel is difficult to call because the last character left only a name, right appearance. They kill him as cruelly as possible... During the entire scene, you ask 1 question, for what? For not allowing the vaccine to be made? Was it necessary? After all, part 1 showed us that even those places where people were constantly attacked. And what would happen if the vaccine miraculously cured everyone? WAR! A war for supplies, a war for everything! For humanity to get back on its feet will take a very long time. OK let's move on, Ellie saw Joel's death and vowed revenge. And the gameplay for Ellie was quite enjoyable, yet both she and I had a motive to kill these people. But that's just it... Seriously, all those friends of Abby's are almost suicidal, because almost every murder is an imposter of Ellie's. And here we are already fired up, the flames of revenge are boiling and you can go for a walk because then you will play half the game for Abby! All the pumping for Ellie remained with her, so swing again. This part of the game I will omit because it can be described as "but they were actually people, and you killed them" (Aha, if I cared). There is such a character as Jesse, the only one who caused me to like the new characters, he conceived a child for the girl Ellie, and I liked him. And that in the end, they just kill him when he walks through the door... And when I wanted to avenge Jessie and show Abby her place, I was told, " Oh, really! Go pee Ellie along with your friend/girlfriend Lion" (this creature it infuriated me throughout the game, because we have a post-Apocalypse, but we all really care who you think you are. ) And a couple of words about Abby, I don't believe that she could get so high without foreign substances, and to be honest, I don't really want to empathize with her, because you've seen where she lives? It's almost a Paradise for them! (Do not forget that on the streets now, in fact, people should tear each other up for an extra bottle of water). And Abby decides to let go of Ellie and her girl and here they zhivkt happy with the child (for some Reason Jessie does not even remember), but then Ellie remembers about revenge (Not without Tommy's help) and goes to Abby, again on his way killing a lot of people and here she is tied to a post, start bullying her as she then over Joel, but she lets her go, well, OK maybe wants to kill her in a fair duel. Well, you're finally drowning it... You remember all the people she killed and maimed... You almost feel satisfied... But Ellie lets them go... You get up, calmly exhale, and then ask the question, what did I just play? Many say moll, the moral of the story is that Revenge is bad, let's close our eyes to the fact that the moral is banal, but even this could have been played well, but they didn't do it. Ellie returns home and.. Where's Dina? Do you mean to say that when the world is a complete nightmare, she took the baby and left? When you can be killed by zombies or other people who just want to survive. Just wonderful... The result-the Game is not what we all expected, the author wanted to please all the minorities, but did not take into account the fact that pleasing them, he spits in the face of the rest. I do not recommend this for purchase, it is better to play spongebob Expand

To top it off the overuse of time jumps makes things fairly confusing. Only parts of the story I can say I genuinely enjoyed where the parts with ellie and joel other than that avoid this game so maybe in the future creators will focus on making good games people want to play as opposed to sjw crap. I don’t care about politics in games. Ignoring what people said about it, the gameplay is fun and graphics are one of the best in this generation. The main purpose of this game was to be a linear story driven title but fails at its storytelling with pointless characters and events occurring to give the story a purpose. There is no redemption from the plot.

No I'm not sexist or homophobic naughty dog, I just appreciate good games without a political agenda being shoved down my throat. The story is woefully poor and very slim to put it nicely. You need to get your revenge, GO ! Parts of the game dragged so much I was falling asleep and pretty much had to force myself through it. Especially towards the halfway point where were forced to repeat the same actions again with a different character... Lazy story telling. Characters are all 1 dimensional and killed off without any real development. Gameplay has barely changed since the first game and still feels as stiff and clunky as ever. And the ending was a downright embaressment that makes the whole game absolutely pointless. What a mess, the graphics were nice, that's my 1 piece of praise I'll give this game, but this is naughty dog, and expected at this point, so yeah.... Visuals - Amazing. It's a beautiful game. The landscapes, scenery, characters, infected, etc. look great. the artists did not disappoint.

Story - It was terrible. Joel gets killed at the beginning by Abby. I'm not upset about that as that helped me connect with Ellie again and want revenge!! But as I was well on my way in doing so, the creators felt I might want to know Abby's side of the story. I have to say, I couldn't have cared less about that at all. I wanted to kill her because of what she did. By the time I was returned to playing Ellie, I wanted to break the game. I was disconnected from her. It didn't feel like the game I started playing when I first loaded it. Feelings aside, Abby's story was interesting but it should have been made into an optional DLC rather than an interruption in the game. The LGBTQ pandering didn't help the cause either as it made no logical sense to inject the story with it other than to cater to the "woke" leftist mob (had to get the political stuff off my chest).

Overall, the creators did a terrible job with the story. The break from Ellie and Joel to the forced story of Abby was the wrong choice. I can't think of a worse thing to do than to interrupt the story of the characters everyone bought the game for to play a character no one knows and who I personally didn't like (in the main story). She should have been a DLC storyline.

I am not against any LGBTQ or any promotional bs, but doing it wrong and disrespectful is another story. I was promised a game with Joel in it because before this game came out, the ads and trailers showed lots Joel and Ellie action, but then the game came out and Joel was killed within two hours of gameplay, afterwards we are forced to play Joels killer to see her side of the story for 10 excruciating hours. That was all I wanted from a sequel and this games does everything it can to tear down the characters you bonded with so strongly in the first game. I didn’t want to see Ellie destroy her life and end up with nothing left at the end, nor did I want to see Joel tortured to death, in front of a Ellie while she begs for his life in the first ten minutes of the game. Worst of all, I didn’t want to spend the second half of the game playing AS his killer for about 8 hours.

I couldn’t relate to Abby, I didn’t want to relate to Abby and I found playing as her actively antagonising. The writers should be sacked and retrain for another career. The graphics, animations, level design, performances, combat, etc. are all incredible, but the terrible writing and story choices meant I didn’t give a **** about any of it. I’m just going to pretend this game never existed as it left such a sour taste in my mouth.
