This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is just a train wreck of a game. The story is terrible and poorly written. I was expecting much more because it was mainly coming from Naughty Dog, one of the best story tellers. But, i can clearly see i was wrong because of this game. I'm fine with playing as Abby, but they make her so bad. She kills Joel, one of the most beloved character in gaming history, and then they make you play as her. The thing that makes me so angry is because of the way Joel died and what he did before he died. He saves Abby and then acts dumb. In the first game, he was smarter than in this game. He tells them his name, which ends up getting him killed. And the way they killed him is terrible. He should have had a better death maybe like Arthur Morgan. The last thing that i will complain about this game is that the ending was horrible. Ellie killed all of Abby's friends and when she finally gets to Abby, she lets her go. All this hatred towards Abby and killing all of her friends to find out where she is, to end up not killing her. One of the most terrible endings to a highly anticipated game. I will say though, the game looks stunning and beautiful. The voice actors did a great job, but the game is mainly the same as the first one, but 3 buttons change. Its just the same game play. I will say, I love the flashbacks with Joel and Ellie. They were so much fun and I would just play those segments rather than the whole game. You can tell that the developers put much love into the game, but its ruined by the story. . I also like how there are options for people that have problems with hearing or seeing and such. That makes it so that the game is for everyone. I don't recommend this game to anyone and you could spend your 60 dollars on something that is worth your time. Expand

I’d say the only nice part about this game is the graphics, and nothing much wrong with the gameplay either. If anything it’s just repetitive. The real issue is with the pacing of the storyline. I get they were going for something dark and deep, but it just comes off nihilistic and painful. If it was a movie, maybe it’d be fine? But it’s a game and the playing field is different. I mean, not even my 14 year old cousin that does drama writing at school can come up with something so disappointing. No, I did not want a happy ending but at least some sense into it would’ve been nice. Did Joel need to go out that way? Did we need to use a character that we never heard of? Trailers are totally misleading and fake advertising. Not even R* smashed us this bad with Johnny Klebitz’ death, at least we understood his downfall with drugs and met a bigger match but someone like Joel with so much experience didn’t need to die that way. You lost me at the ending, as well. Not that you all care anyways, you got your money boohoo. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
Sin embargo, en the last of us parte 2 no es el caso.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a big fan of the first game and its characters Joel and Ellie, I am really disappointed by this game. Graphics and sound are great, but the story is trash. I've watched the entire game on youtube, I'm not gonna give 60 bucks for this garbage. I would not download it even if it was free on Playstation Plus. What a horrible sequel. Everything in this story is either nonsense or it spits on everything the first game stood for. Joel is a skilled survivor, he wouldn't be that stupid to give his name to strangers. Also, why do we have to play with Joel's killer for so long? No amount of context will ever make me sympathise with Abby after she kills Joel (in that horrible way) after he saved her life. This is disgusting. This is just leftist/progressive agenda, let's get rid of main male characters, let's get rid of male role models as to not be misogynistic. Joel was a a father figure to all of us who played the first game and we got very attached to this character. He didn't deserve a death like this. Also, Ellie is very angry, I couldn't get a reason to bound with her in part 2. Very bad writting. This mindset may work in California, but not in the rest of the world. Also , the trailers were so deceiving. The developers said that the game will be divisive. Let's hope that the sales numbers are also divisive. Expand

No spoilers. While the previous game has a lot of problems on logics with how biology should've worked, you could still argue that those were done for the need of plot for the overall storyline, no matter how poorly those plots were presented and how bad the logic could be, it was at least a good story that provides us to reflect ourselves. You cannot defend the story of this game like the previous one. There are simply way too many problems on how you lay out the story, the progress, and how it was told, and for a game that took 7 years to finish, at some point, someone in the whole dev team had to ask this question: is that really the way we want to tell the story? Does that really line up to the way we tell the story in our previous game? Apparently none of those questions was asked, else the story and human logic would've been more polished.

    Gameplay:
Nothing new. Seriously, nothing new or outbreaking. Solid? yes. But nothing that really provided excitement. At least no bugs, right?

In the stroy it keeps telling us why we should not kill, but in the story you legit kill hell lot of people. That's very different from the story and does not make any sence. At the time went users reach the ending, users will realize that the entire story was very unfair to Ellie since she last her family, many of her friends are dead or hurt, her relations to them are broken. But if you see Abby, she got everything. She has a home and friends to go bacl she got a boyfriend, and everything else. Don't you think that Naughty Dog was forcing on PC too much that they have forgotten to respact the part 1 characters? Don't you see that Naughty Dog has turn their faces from us and become as a another slave of a PC? I think this is the worst choice that Naughty Dog have ever made.Beside to the story, the Naughty Dog was not showing the best performance that they could do and the moves that were showed on trailers were not abke to do them. First of all, the gameplay, the graphics and the mechanics are clearly on top as expected. It's amazing how naughty dog always pushes the console to its limits to present a very good looking and well playable game.

When it comes to the main part of TLOU2 which is the storyline, I have to say I really tried to feel the storytelling, but I didn't had any emotions at all beside three little moments. (Beginning, Flashbacks and the very end in the cutscene, not the playable end)

Playing more than 50% of the time as a character who is hated deeply, mainly causes the problem that we don't get the chance to take the main and side characters to our heart. All of you who played the first part can agree my statement when I say that the characters from TLOU1 are the only ones, to who we have an emontional relation with. All other characters in Part2 are more or less meaningless.

After a few days since I finished the game I clearly have some disappointment in me because I am a huge fan of Part 1 and Part 2 doesn't come anyway near. So I don't blame Neil Druckman alone for the poor written story. I mean, such a big studio should be able to handle a quality management. When I watched the credits at the end of the game and reached the part "Quality Testers" I literally thought: "OMG - You had one job". I don't really know if they were quality testers of the story tough.

I mean, a studio what brang along masterpieces like Uncharted and a godlike game like TLOU 1 should be able to know what a good game shoud look like.

Personal opinion about Naughty Dogs reaction:
Claiming fans bots, transphobic or homophobic is clearly a childish behaviour when it comes to defend themselves because of the poor reviews. I mean there are people who are more tolerant related to theses points than others but I dare to say 90% of the people have a common sense and know how to criticize a game. Ok maybe the word selection could be better sometimes tough.

However, all the hatings and discussions give TLOU2 more and more publicity what ND doesn't deserve with this regrettably poor written game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went into this game with no spoilers at all expecting an amazing game just like the first, and while the graphics are amazing, the game is a chore to play. Now time for the story. The first hour or so was pretty good, I personally liked the guitar scene and other scenes like that, but then comes Abby. At first I already was not very interested in playing as her because I wanted to play Ellie the hole way through. Here comes my first problem with the story, Tommy and Joel help a stranger, and that’s fine because yeah they might have become nicer over the time skip but they would not give out their names at all. Then skip some fluff and Joel dies a very gruesome and unnecessary death due to him and Tommy saying their names. His death was coming, I knew that, but so soon and so unlikely? No, not the Joel that I and thousands of other actual fans know would let himself get surround by a shack full of strangers. Then after some gameplay as both Abby and Ellie I decided that I was committed to getting revenge for Joel as Ellie, so I ignored most of Abbie’s story and focused on Ellie’s due to Abby’s just not capturing me. But as I was playing as Abby going through the standard level, I noticed that an enemy I killed looked familiar. You kill Tommy as if he was a standard NPC, a major character gets killed by a single shot to the head and it is done. I hated this so much. At this point I was burnt out by the game and was just pulling through to get revenge for Joel. So I reach the end finally, take down Abby and wait for my chance to kill or maybe even have Ellie say something like, “You don’t get to rush this” as you get your revenge.
BUT NOPE, the entire end goal, the entire thing that made me push through this garbage doesn’t exist. You don’t avenge Joel, you instead let the killer of one of the most beloved characters in history, GET AWAY.
2/10 Looked nice but gameplay is mediocre at best and story sucks, would not buy, and would just forget it ever happened

The game seemed fine until you are forced to play as this terrible monster, Abby, and then forced to SPARE HER LIFE at the end. What a waste of time. Why play a game that's all about revenge only to not get it at the end? I waited this many years for this? To see Joel get brutally murdered for no reason right off the bat, a character that was perfect and beautiful, then see his murderer get spared, without a choice of your own? How disgusting! Revenge was the answer here. Without it, the game is a waste of time and a meaningless story. Only giving it a 2 for graphics. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The only way I can describe this game is bitterly disappointing!! I was a huge fan of the first game and had high hopes for the sequel, however unfortunately any potential that the game had was wasted due to various plot holes, a woeful story and some characters who despite there potential are never fleshed out and therefore it's extremely difficult to gain any kind of significant connection to them.

The game does have a number of positives. It is visually and audibly stunning, Naughty Dog has again raised the bar in this respect. The level design is great and despite it being linear there are still plenty of options to get around and make it a somewhat unique experience in certain areas.

Unfortunately this positives are simply not enough to overcome some significant short comings. Firstly Joel's death. I have no issue with Joel dying however the way in which he died is pure idiocy, Joel and Tommy are two seasoned veterans of this world who have survived almost a quarter of a century in this post apocalyptic chaos and understand that trusting people can get you killed. So they conveniently become naive idiots solely for the purpose of story progression it makes no sense whatsoever!!

Dina and Jesse are two characters with significant potential, however neither are ever really fleshed out as much as needed so much of that potential goes to waste.

Then onto the second half of the game. You are made to play as the character who bludgeoned a beloved character to death for TEN hours Who throughout the game has shown almost psychopathic tendencies. During this phase it's intended for the player to develop empathy and a connection to Abby however this just doesn't happen due to the lacklustre story line, awful story telling and a cast of characters who are either painfully dull or ridiculously unlikeable with the only exception being Lev who sadly comes across as an Ellie type figure from the first game to allow Abby to have some weird Joel type journey of discovery just without any of the charm of Joel and Ellie's made made it great. Also in this section the attempted emotional manipulation of the player with the use of cheap tricks becomes evident. Doing everything possible to paint Abby as a compassionate person whilst trying to guilt grip you for action undertaken as Ellie that you had zero choice but do. These tricks are cheap and don't have the effect the developers where hoping for.

Finally the ending of the game is a got mess. The message that revenge is bad and somebody has to end the circle of violence. This fails completely when both playable characters where largely guided by the need for vengeance and the one who took revenge got away free to start a new life with Lev. Whilst the person who ended the cycle and did the "right thing" ended up with no one and nothing left and is now facing her biggest fear of ending up alone. The hypocrisy here is utterly baffling and undermines the entire message the developers wanted to spread.

I can see the idea of what they were trying to pull off however it was so shambolically put together it landed a million miles wide of the mark. That added with the fact that everything that made the first game the beloved masterpiece that it is and the characters as iconic as they are has been dismantled to the point that the only really significant character remaining from the first game is now a shadow the character we had such a connection with. I can safely say that there will be no additional play-throughs of this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not much more to say that hasn't been said. Finished the game yesterday and honestly just felt really depressed and cheated by the treatment of the characters and the story. I can see how ambitious the game was and appreciated many of the action sequences and set pieces that were used. The gameplay is fine, straight out of 2013 with the addition of a jump button and a dodge. Great. Really where the game falls flat is in it's story. Story about revenge is fine, even killing Joel is fine as it provided a good motivation for Ellie's portion of the game, however the writing and execution could have been so much better. And if you are going to make the story about revenge at least give the player the option to take revenge. Abby gets hers and doesn't think twice, Ellie loses everything and actively chooses not to take revenge, which just made no sense given what Abby has done to her. I was a huge Naughty Dog fan before this game, but this game has given a lot of room for that to change.

As a quick side note I even think the story could have been left EXACTLY as it was but instead of using Joel and Ellie just give us a whole new set of characters that we were not 100% invested in already.

    This game hurt.

Joel was killed in the most disrespectful way possible, its completely possible to kill off main characters but that was the worst possible way to do it of all time. Yeah that's right all time no game will ever kill off a character in a more garbage way than in this game. Then the characters man they try so hard to make you feel certain ways about certain characters. Last but not least the ending what a garbage ending that was. I haven't seen a worse video game ending than that. The game looked beautiful but the story was garbage, the things they had you do was garbage, but most of all the Lies they told you when they we're marketing the game were garbage. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. We are December 3rd, 2016, during the Playstation Experience, we finally discover the first trailer of TLOU2. Do you remember the cheers of the crowd and the happiness that we all felt when Joel finally appear? Do you remember the scream of joy when we saw in another trailer Joel saying "You think I would let you do this on your own"? This is how TLOU2 has been advertised for us fans of the 1st game and in love with those two characters and this is how we thought the game would be and should have been.
I will talk about the story because I think we all agree that graphism and the OST are incredible and the gameplay mostly good.
We arrived in an apocalyptic world where some people are mad against Ellie for being lesbian and where Ellie is disrespecting Joel because she has her puberty maybe. This already puts the tone of the story. After 1 hour and half-interesting, we meet the second playable characters of the game, Abby. I didn't expect to play another character since the director of the game said explicitly that only Ellie would be playable. The biggest problem of this game is the incoherence in all character's actions and I will explain why it's inherent to justify my grade of 3.
Joel is a survivor that is able to guess an ambush in the first game and that told Ellie to never gave her name or trust strangers (We see that she follow those rules during the Winter Part in the first TLOU). Nonetheless, in this game, he follows a stranger into a lodge and give his name to everyone there and follow them into a room without escaping possibilities. After the massacre that he did to the hospital with the fireflies, he must know for sure that some people might want him to die. Ellie is a lost character in that game. She smokes weed and has sex in the middle of a building crowded with infected and where she can die every second, which is stupid and incoherent with the situation. She followed Abby around all the countries and kills thousands of innocents and a dog (The studio said that you are not obligated to kills any dogs in the game but it's false, you are obligated to kill one which I didn't like since I have a german dog too). All those deaths to reach Abby and when she reaches her and can kill her she doesn't.
Abby finally, is incoherent in her decision. Every intelligent person would have killed Ellie like Joel killed Marlene in the first game. It was sure that Ellie would follow Abby for revenge and after killing all her friends, she decides once again to not kill her. (Maybe because she is a girl because she killed every guy but not Dina & Ellie). The game tried to make us have compassion for Abby but it's impossible after what she did. It was torture to play as Abby for 10 hours after what she did and it would have been more suitable to put that part with Abby before she kills Joel.
Dina looks more like a love interest and isn't an interesting character, Jesse is interesting, Tommy is useless and Lev is here just to promote transsexuality and inclusivity because the only thing they say about her is that she shaved her head and is a man. The game gravitates around revenge and tries to tell us that revenge is bad but doesn't succeed because Abby got what she wants by taking revenge so we as players want to have ours too. The final let us frustrated and we felt very down when we think of all the lives lost, all the sacrifices done and all the hours we played. We lose so many characters, some with very bad injuries such as Ellie and Tommy and we lose everything as Ellie finish alone. This game doesn't accomplish anything and the only happy ending is the one of Abby that has her happy ending thanks to revenge. The game tried to make us have compassion for Abby and make us realize that Joel is a bad guy but Joel only killed for surviving and by love while Abby killed by hate. The only "innocent" life that Joel took was one of the surgeons, the dad of Abby. I understand the volunteer of the studio to deal with feelings such as remorse, compassion, and self-identity but this is totally not coherent in a world such as The Last of Us. To survive you have to kill and don't have places here. Self Identity about being a guy doesn't have its place, you talk about an apocalyptic world, I don't think it's the primary issue on someone mind here.
I think that this game has been ruined by the agenda that the studio had and all the contributors that give their touches to the game. The person playing Lev had racist tweets, Ellie in the flashbacks has a more masculine face because of some feminists activist and I truly think that the idea of the game was to get rid of the male character to put a woman that breaks the rules with a man body. I waited 7 years for the other game, I trusted Naughty Dog on it because it's my favorite studios and all my favorite games are from them but they let us down with this one. I truly think that this game was made for people that didn't even play the first one or knew 2 years ago

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game can be played as either a fan of the franchise or someone who has not played the first game. I am the former. A fan of the first game and hence I will review this as a fan of the first game and what made it special and what it built.

    Graphics: 9/10.

Graphically the game looks very good. The details to the environments, the light, the textures, the models, the fluid animations. The physics is incredible. All is top notch.

    Gameplay: 7/10.

The gameplay at first is very good but after roughly half way through the game, it becomes quite repetitive. You have to always repeatedly press square fast in close encounters. To use melee you press square. Every quick time event is square. And these occur very often in the game. The puzzles also start to become very repetitive and monotonous. And a lot of your time is spent in cut scenes which is not gameplay.

    Story: 0/10.

The biggest problem with the game is the story. This game is not isolated on its own, in the sense that it already established the personalities of the characters and also a fan base with the first game.

Joel gets killed very early in the game by acting out of character in trusting complete strangers. Now, five years after the first game, you cannot tell anyone that within five years a person makes a complete 180 turn in terms of his personality. It just does not happen for adults. For teenagers, yes. But certainly not for adults who are living in a post-apocalyptic world which is unforgiving. The way Joel gets killed is very brutal and most importantly it does not do justice to his character. If you are going to kill off a beloved character, then make his death impactful, honorable, and memorable.

The character Abby is not likeable and the unraveling of her motives do not redeem her. She comes in as a complete stranger, murders Joel in the most brutal way, and sets the revenge story on its path. The worst part is that we have to play as her for a substantial amount of the time. She murders just as much as Joel and Ellie have, yet she never actually has any mental breakdowns from her slaughtering. She seems plain and fake. Whereas Ellie kills a pregnant woman (in self defense I may add) and after she finds out that the woman is pregnant she pretty much suffers from what she has done. Ellie is much better written than Abby and there is no connection whatsoever with Abby.

The story finished off by Ellie slaughtering her way through to get revenge for Joel's death, gets her fingers bit off by Abby and in the final fight against Abby, Ellie all of a sudden reaches the moral illumination that revenge and killing is bad and lets her walk away; Ellie comes home to just find that she is all alone and lost everything. The story is bad. Really bad.

    Score 4/10:

Note also that this is a story-driven game. So the story has to be weighted more than gameplay and graphics. I weighted the story twice as much as gameplay and graphics since this is not an online fps where the story does not matter but the gameplay does.

    Hence, the final score is ( Graphics + Gameplay + Story + Story) / 4 = (9 + 7 + 0 + 0) / 4 = 16/4 = 4.

    Final score 2/10:

Thus, the final score of the game that I would give is a 4. If there would have not been false marketing from Naughty Dog's side, that is. And this issue has to be addressed too in the final score. Naughty Dog has deliberately swapped models from the trailers which correspond to in-game scenes in order to manipulate fans. In trailers, we see some scenes with an older looking Joel. However, when we reach those particular scenes in-game, then we can see that those are flashbacks from the first game with the younger Joel from the first game. Such "grey zone" manipulation and giving a false sense that Joel will be much more in the game than he actually is should not be tolerated. It is immoral. Since the game does not exist independently of its developers, marketeers, and publisher, we have to include their reputable actions into the final score too. This immoral behavior cost the game 2 points. Hence, my final score is a 2/10.

    Final thoughts:

I do not recommend this game to anyone who has played the first game and is a fan of Joel and Ellie. For those who have not played the first game, your experience might differ and perhaps you will enjoy the game as a standalone independent piece. But even then, this is most certainly not a 9.5-10/10 as these critics make it seem. Any rational person will give it a 4-7/10 (if you wish to ignore how the game was marketed; if not, then subtract 2 points).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Therefore anyone claiming one has to play the game to gain understanding of the "story" (use the term loosely) in part II is very ignorant. Gameplay does not affect the story in any way in part II, it's simply the vehicle through which the player travels through the story. Thus all the claims about gameplay are irrelevant...The Last Of Us was never praised for gameplay. it gained acclaim because of it's plot, which was creative in several aspects. The main four being how the cordyceps virus affected humans, the relationship between Joel, and Ellie, what Ellie meant for mankind, and the nuance of all these things blended together.

You get nothing like the above in Part II, there is a complete focus on violence, and despair. The game is quite dangerous in this aspect, as it's easy to see depression set in as a result. The Last Of us part II is a game depressed individuals should definitely not play. It is a game about "revenge", which are a dime a dozen. A cliche plot point, which is beyond overused at this point, and offers nothing to fans of the original game, when compared to it.

Objectively, it is impossible to do a continuation of The Last Of Us...seeing as it's like the end of a book series. There is only room for a prequel (Ground zero for outbreak) or a middle sequence (Joel, Tess, Tommy, and Marlene lives up til the start of the original game) to the aforementioned "book" series analogy. I rate the game a 2...1 point for graphics, and 1 for gameplay, any other numerical value solely resided with the story of the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay is just as good as before, with a few new features, but generally the same, which isn't a bad thing- if it ain't broke don't fix it.

The graphics are pretty good and the visuals are breathtaking as expected from a PS4 game.

But it ain't the gameplay or the graphics that the fans, such as myself had bought the game. It was for Joel and Ellie. It was for their story that made "The Last of Us".

And the writers had butchered it.

The storytelling is horrendous. They tried to make "Abby", the game's "Antagonist", or another "Protagonist" (you can decide which one she is) likeable at all cost, which they miserably failed to do so. They tried to explain why she killed the game's most beloved character and then make us sympathise with her, but their attempts were so sloppy, that I only saw her as the "villain" who killed my favorite character.

The game tried to teach you a lesson that "revenge is bad" (Unless you're Abby, because she gets a free pass, apparently ), but of course, first, it will force you to go on a manhunt and commit mass murderer in order to exact your revenge on "Abby", only for Ellie to spare her at the end after sacrificing literally everything.

The story had also dumbed down most of the major characters. Mainly Joel. This is a character who was supposed to be an apocalyptic survival expert with over a decade of experience, but he just had to die in the dumbest way ever and that is by making an amateur mistake... Mind you, I am not specifically mad at the developers for killing Joel, I am mad for how poorly they executed it.

When you play a game, a good game, you don't want it to end. You want to keep going and you're playing with excitement and anticipation, wondering where the story is going to take you next. It wasn't like that with this game. After roughly about 3 hours of gameplay, I stopped caring. It felt like I was forcing myself through emotional torture while trying to convince myself "it will be worth it in the end".

    It really wasn't.

When it finally ended. I was left hollow. I was so disappointed that I didn't even want to look at the game ever again, I placed it at the back of my shelf to gather dust and lay forever forgotten. It's like a bad movie you can only watch once and don't want to talk about it after it's over.

7 years of waiting and this is what we get.

    Shame on you Naughty Dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can see many people feel the same way I do. I enjoyed the game for an hour then boom, best character in the story is gone like a fart in the wind. Basically you set out as Ellie with her gf and a horse on an "epic tale of revenge ". Lies. You play a very linear driven game after the first 2 hours, and the story becomes very predictable. The a.i. in this game is dumb (this includes your partner.) The combat mechanics is the same as the first game. The majority of the action scenes or revenge scenes have you hit square repeatedly. The game wants you to feel for abby as if we don't already love and have a connection with joel and ellie. I get it it, it's a story about revenge and justice ,but it just feels so bland to me. The characters weren't very interesting either. So when I knew one was about to die because the story is so freaking predictable, I just sat there shaking my head. I think the worse thing to me about the game is playing Abby. I hated playing as Joel's killer and going through her perspective. IDC! She is an unlikable buff turd. At this point, I'm merely completing the game to avenge the death of my 60 bucks I sacrificed at gamestop. In the end ellie loses more than ever and abby is still with lev and they live happily every after. My opinion and you will either agree or disagree. But remember at the end of the day, we are all human beings, so please be kind to each other!:) Expand

Nerfed and killed my favorite gaming character of all time (and it’s not that he died, it’s how he died; because of his own stupidity that went against his character). Then I’m forced to play as someone I hated and wouldn’t have paid money to play as, had I known before. I spent an hour in the fight scene walking out and letting Ellie kill me over and over because I hated Abby. Motivations are stupid for main characters. Garbage and waste of money. Expand

Visuals are amazing. Gameplay is typical, maybe slightly iffy at times.
The Plot, which drives many games like TLOU2, is absolutely horrendous and heart-breaking. Like many others have said, "disrespectful" is pretty much the best way to describe the story and character development/s in this game.

    Pros:
Technical aspects (graphics, sound, gameplay, acting, etc)

    Cons:
Story & characters (they are TERRIBLE)

I give it such a low score because the most important aspect in these kind of games are the story and characters, and they are just atrocious in this game, some of the worst I've ever seen. I definitely can't recommend this game, not even on sale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This technical aspects of this game are comparable to the first game. Gameplay mechanics are pretty much the same as the first game. The graphics and voice acting are also good. The story in my opinion are what ruin this game for me. I expected for Joel to die, but this was not the way to kill him off. Then right after you HAVE to play as Abby, for like more than half the game. I HATED playing as Abby, i did not connect with her in any way or feel anything for that character. They should of fleshed her out more before she killed Joel off. To be forced to play as a person you despise is not fun in my opinion....it felt like a chore doing her story. The game forces you to kill a dog and then makes the effort to make you feel like crap about it when you had no choice in the matter. I encountered weird bug in the section where you have to kill the dog, i fell from vent, dog attacks but before he attacks i get shot in head by an invisible person and it was an endless death loop of me getting shot. Replayed chapter and got through dog part to realize there were no other people around in the area....so who shot me??? Ellie goes through all this revenge story killing tons of people and the end she lets Abby go, after tracking her down a second time? Just doesn't make sense. If you are trying to convey that revenge causes more problems than its worth there are better ways of conveying that. Ending was unsatisfying and overall when i was done playing the game i felt as depressed as Ellie did as the game came to a close. I would say this is a pass until it becomes cheaper. Expand

This game is beautiful, the gameplay is fun the soundtrack and performances by everyone is great where it suffers is this is a video game, not a tv show or a movie it’s suppose to be your choices the way you play should matter and it doesn’t this is a tv show is scripted video gameplay in between your forced to kill dogs, your forced to play as Abby a character who isn’t badly developed she has a good emotional start but the game beats you over the head with informing you that Ellie is the villain and not Abby.. but Abby killed Joel and she gets more spotlight and focus on top of that while playing as her the game forces you to play fetch with a dog that your forced to killed as Ellie just one example of how this game tries to Manipulate manipulate your feelings towards Ellie and it doesn’t work. This game was so disappointing to the point I don’t think I’ll ever play it again the last of us I’ve beaten 100 times part 2 I don’t even wanna play the new game plus I already uninstalled it and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth I only scratched the surface of what I didn’t like to make a quick rundown They kill Joel off in a unearned shock value death They rewrote marlines character from the first game
Dina is not developed enough to believe her and Ellie’s relationship
Abby gets more focus than Ellie The story falls apart after you take over Abby thanks to forced moments
And more You want my advice I mean that’s why your reading this.. pick the game up for $20 have fun with the gameplay graphics and flashback including Abby’s but after that try and avoid and or forget the rest of the story because it is a dumpster fire of disappointment after 7 years this game broke my heart

Neil Druckmann's self insert literally spits on Joel's grave, who had no reason to die anyway, much less in such an anticlimactic way. Abby is the most unlikable thing I have ever seen in any media, and Ellie and her girlfriend are not far off either. They just **** and whine about such stupid things you forget that there are zombies in the game, which ruins the atmosphere. The story would be average if the characters weren't so **** bad. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 7 long years, a couple insane months, yet I held hope. I thought hard and realized that I need to give this game a chance. I do believe that the graphics of this game were mesmerizing, even the most simple animations and lighting were very impressive, the dodge button was also a delight about 1/3 of the time. The gameplay besides that is SO BAD. The first time Ellie jumped, I was astonished. Like, how can Ellie overpower grown men but can only hop like 2 inches, who knows. Everything else is basically exactly the same. The gameplay areas are a little more fluid but the gun play is embarrassing, slowing everything down in the process. The characters were so boring that I didn’t even remember half of their names. THEN THEY REMOVE THE PUZZLES (they should have done the opposite and made them more challenging. Maybe take advantage of that hilarious rope LMFAO so impressed). Joel dying is all good and well, but really, wtf? Need I say more regarding him? No, everyone agrees. Playing as a new character that I don’t care about, okay I’ll do that I guess, but SHE NEVER DIES like dude what. Everything was for nothing, now there is going to be the last of us 3 and it will be embarrassing. All and all the good was overshadowed by the constant feelings of either anger or boredom, oh ya did I mention the game is insanely boring? Should have been a 10-15 hour game which is disgusting. Also at no point did I dislike this game due to the SJW agenda, I don’t care, it doesn’t bother me but what does bother me is journalists saying that is why people dislike the game. It isn’t, that is probably 5% of people who hate it. I only hope DLC comes out so NOBODY buys it. How many people buy the DLC will be the deciding factor on how the community actually feels about this game. Sorry not sorry. Wasted time, wasted money, hopefully I can return this junk of garbage somehow. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. !!This is a long read but worth it so please read to the end!! What a betrayal to the fans who have waited so long for this game. Where do I even start, how about the part where Joel is tortured and murdered in such a inappropriate way to send off this character. This man was part of the driving force behind the first game, a person who you become so invested in because you see the tragedy he has gone through, and to just off him like that is so lazy, Joel survived for 20 plus years being an idiot?? Yeah i don’t think so, not in a million years would he trust those shady people to begin with. And let’s talk about having to play as his killer for HALF THE GAME. I feel no sympathy whatsoever for this piece of crap character, everything you do as her is so pointless because you are just following behind what you already did as Ellie in killing of her friends. It’s like the developers had no clue what to do at all, they wanted to make the game longer than the first so they make you play a game twice as long as the first as some Macho man looking girl who you couldn’t give less of a crap about. And the way the story ends is so un satisfying. Ellie gets crapped on all game and in the end when she’s gonna get her moment, the writers think you know what? As if we haven’t made this game bad enough, let’s let the antagonist of the game who murdered such a beloved character, yeah let’s her live like get outta here with that dumb crap. There aren’t many pluses to this game, the gameplay is beat for beat the same exact gameplay as it was 7 years ago, so there nothing new and exciting there. The character design for some of the new characters introduced is so hideous I can’t stand to look at some of them, namely Abby who looks like a freaking ogre. But if I had to give a positive, obviously the graphics are stunning, that’s pretty much a given since naughty dog have a good track record with that, but saying that graphics doesn’t mean good game, you want more examples of that just look at every EA game ever. Another positive I have are the Joel and Ellie flashbacks in the game, that’s what made this series was those twos relationship and I wish it was more focused on that. There’s my review for this game. If you are a long time fan of this series I would strongly recommend you do not play this game and just look on YouTube if you want to see what happens. To people who are new to the series you’ll probably have an ok time with the game and not understand some of the story issues people are having with the game because you haven’t played the first, so to you I’d say spend your money on something more meaningful like the first game if you really want bang for your buck. Where the graphics, audio design, and gameplay are fantastic, and the settings abundant, the game fails on every other front. The story is illogical, beginning with a rejected Part 1 plot that was deemed "unrealistic", and continues to try so hard to differentiate itself from tropes that it ends up becoming a mess of trying to "subvert expectations" and have "deep and meaningful" messages and themes. This game is trying to be high art like Part 1 which is primarily why it fails. The Last of Us was a game and story FIRST and high art was simply a byproduct of it being near-perfectly constructed, a game sitting with some of the best of all time like Resident Evil 4, Silent Hill 2, etc. The first title in the series had tons of character, as well as an engrossing overall design. Linear levels pulled you into the strategy and claustrophobia of the world the characters waded through, the feel of the controls matched the character you would play, the narrative made sense, had layers, and the CHARACTERS were complex (without being cluttered) while believable and diverse. The narrative of this title is not only weak in its foundations, but systematically dismantles any possible redeeming factors in favor of appealing to the ideals of the director. The themes are resurrected from the first title, and are much poorer, which in no small part is due to the degradation in character value. Each new character is 1 or 2 traits of a part 1 counterpart, hyperbolized to a fatiguing degree, and solidified as boring by being treated as a person of MODERN society. It fails to embrace the fantastic world crafted by the first game, as well as the stronger design of having only a select few great characters, rather than an ensemble of mediocrity. The pacing of the game is atrocious and borderline mind-numbing as you are bogged down with awful characterization and a bad representation of not only fundamental archetypes, but the very themes the game is trying to push as positive. Representation is not new, the first title had Bill and Ellie, with hints that even David or some of his men were of a different persuasion than someone like Joel or Tess, however since this hardly impacted the story and only flavored the character profiles, representation being the driving motivation for those traits being in the game, the character personalities came first and were respected, with their thoughts and feelings about the world and people around them taking center stage. In part 2, you are constantly reminded of the diversity and importance of the representation being had, and thus the story is given a backseat to agenda. Rather than being character traits that can enhance the interpersonal dialogues between characters of varying purposes, it is now the first hour of the game's dialogue, and several more hours later. This is another issue with Part 2. Where part one enhanced an easy to follow and well-constructed plot with subplots and worldbuilding (think about the notes of Ish), part two instead spends an inordinate amount of time outside of free gameplay, which takes a backseat to what is essentially a walking simulator. While most complain about the LGBTQ or death of Joel, I only resent the lack of proper implementation of both ideas, which becomes even clearer when you remember Bill, Henry, and Sam in part 1,

Overall, The Last of Us Part 2 is the epitome of wasted potential and lazy writing. Subversions exist for the sake of subverting only and carry no true weight, the game is a sloth-race of waiting just to get to a single fantastic gameplay segment (only for it to be over quickly), the characterization is lazy and boring with little development making sense or even remaining consistent to its own canon (Part 1 Ellie had the giraffe scene to show that she could fully recover from the damage caused by David and would never lose hope and positivity, which part 2 ignores to give us the same girl who never got to see the giraffes), and the story is a nonsensical mess with little to offer anyone seeking an improvement over part one. The game is painstakingly mediocre which is awful to come out of such a well-regarded studio in a series that shook the world with the quality of the first title. I believe this game is a waste of money and should only be played by patient people who want a very casual game that fakes emotional weight by using fantastic audio and visual design combined with bad storylines and characterization leading into events that can only really be described as shock-value moments while ignoring the tone and world established in the series in favor of modern personal agenda held by the director. Truly a sad sequel for one of the best games of all time. I hope you found this helpful.

Hopefully, this series follows the structure of the Devil May Cry franchise. A fantastic first game, an awful sequel, and then the third installment being a prequel that surpasses the original title in all ways. Thank you for reading.
