    Naughty dog truly destroyed the last of us franchise. So much potential, wasted. Neil Druckman’s vision for this game was absolute **** 30+ hours I’ll never get back. The last of us part one was a masterpiece I can’t believe it’s the same people that have made this game. There’s no justice nor a satisfactory ending. You guys had 7 years and you’ve dished out this ? The last of us part 2 isNaughty dog truly destroyed the last of us franchise. So much potential, wasted.     I waited a third of my life for this game to come out. It has absolutely stunning scenery and characters, but the story is lacking beyond belief. I fail to see in the grand scheme of the game, how we as players that have come to love the characters of this game, are meant to feel something for a psychopath... I will not skip over the fact that there are amazing moments in the game, butI waited a third of my life for this game to come out.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has left me beyond disappointment. I'm sure I can speak for everyone when I say I loved the first TLOU. But this game makes me feel like it tried to tear down the characters and ruin the franchise. I don't know where to start with this god awful game. Like most people I absolutely hated how they treated Joel. One of the best characters i think i have ever seen in any type of media. He is portrayed as smart, experienced, and battle hardened survivor in he first game but in this game he completely goes against his character established in the last game. In the previous game he is shown to know and see all the traps and bad ideas thrown his way. Never trusting strangers and always keeping his guard up. In TLOU2 Joel goes against his character by trusting a stranger with his name and even going back to their home camp. These actions end up getting him killed by one of the worst developed characters in a video game, Abby. The way they treated Joel is downright disrespectful to TLOU fans all around. We have a full game with Joel just to see him die in a way we know he shouldn't have according to his character is more than upsetting. The game then sets you off on a journey of revenge where the game makes it almost seem like Ellie is losing her passion of getting revenge, which if the writing was consistent from the first game, we know that Ellie would have been dead-set on her revenge. Which is the biggest problem with this game. The terrible writing and character development. This story actively goes against the character development from the last game while building new characters extremely poorly. The lack of character building for the newly introduced characters was bluntly obvious. No one seem to care about the WLF characters besides getting revenge for Joel. They just felt like the nameless enemies from the previous games instead of people you understood and maybe even cared for. They were compelling in no way at all. This was extremely prevalent for the other main protagonist Abby, who from the extremely misleading advertising I was unaware of. But it turns out you play 10 hours (half of the game) playing as a character you hate. Since Joel was so beloved and you see him being brutally beaten to death by someone, you are naturally inclined to hate that person. Then the game makes you play half of the game as the character who shows no remorse for all the people she's killed including Joel and Jesse, there is no possible way that you will be able to feel any empathy towards this character. But this game tries so hard to make you feel pity and understand her, when it is impossible to feel pity after seeing what she has done. She is also portrayed as a very dislikable and morally questionable person throughout the 10 hours. This is a prime example of the trash writing put into this game. At the end of the game Ellie and Abby are having a final showdown when Ellie is close to finishing the job she set out to do at the very beginning of this game, but she stops drowning Abby after seeing a image of Joel in her head. This makes no sense as seeing Joel in her head is what triggered her to start the fight in the first place. This also goes back to how in the first game Joel and Ellie will do anything for each other, like when Ellie first killed someone to save Joel. The fact that Ellie let Joel's killer get away on purpose went against her character built up in the last game which loops back to one of this game's biggest problems. Not only that but seeing the sole purpose you played the game for (to get revenge for Joel and kill Abby) slips through your fingertips is more than disappointing and unsatisfying. This is by far one of the worst endings I've ever seen in any media. The only redeeming part of this story was the beautiful graphics and pretty good gameplay. Other than that I wished this game didn't exist. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GAME. IT WILL DISAPPOINT YOU!

    Overall: The only good part of this game was the graphics and gameplay. But the story was complete and utter trash. Only play this game if you don't care about the story and just want some more TLOU gameplay, but even then I would recommend playing the original.    … Expand

    The first game is great but this new installment sucks oh I can’t believe the storyline is what it is gameplaying graphics are great luckily I didn’t waste my money on it I wanted it and I strongly suggest to anyone out there who is thinking about getting this game please try to read it first or wait until it’s $20 or less

Yes the gameplay is fantastic and I was completely impressed with it, but what ruins this game is the story. The story is just so awful with the way it treats its characters. Within the first hour of my play through I had to witness one of my favorite characters get brutally slaughtered, right then and there I was ready to take the disc out of my PlayStation and throw the disc out my window. But I gave it a second chance and again I was impressed by visuals and gameplay but the story is what holds it back. Then the unthinkable happens and the game switches over to the most hated video game character of all time and that is Abby this part of the game I just kept killing her on purpose over and over again Until I reached the worst ending of all video game History!!!! I could not believe THATS how this game ends. Such a waste of money and the sad part is I can’t even get a refund. I don’t get how anyone can support naughty dog beyond this point not only they treat their employees like **** but they also treated one of their most beloved game like **** save your money and don’t support this evil studio.… Expand

    Horrible story ! Naughty dog really dropped the ball on this one , the beautiful graphics and smooth gameplay can’t make up for the horrendous story . They took some of the best written characters and killed one of them off and then wrote the other one to be unlikeable in an attempt to make us sympathize with one of the most poor written characters ever !

    This game was a BIG disappointment 4/10. They give you a false sense of who will be the lead characters of this game based on the trailers. They start out very quickly by spitting on the all of the characters and personalities and traits that made them who you loved from the first game in a very unforgivable way. This is when they force you to flip a massive birdie towards yourself and expect you to enjoy playing as a villain who is unlikable and you desperately want dead for the remainder of the game which is at the very least 10 hours of gameplay. You are then concluded with the hero and evil villain parting ways and more or less hugging it out making the entire story pointless for the sake of making you think about an extremely uninteresting moral dilemma that was not wanted and does not work. This is merely the result of a growing trend to force feed people political statements in their games instead of just crafting something for everyone to enjoy. Naughty Dog was the only company left that I held to a high standard and had unwavering faith in their ability to deliver amazing games/experiences and I am now left with no trust in game development.… Expand

There were so many flashbacks and it just felt like the game was out of order. I also hated playing as Abby and almost wanted to stop playing the game entirely. Not to mention, the boss fight against Ellie as Abby disturbed me a lot and probably many others because I love Ellie and I have no sympathy for Abby... sorry. On the other hand, the graphics were amazing and the combat was okay, I liked the new additions (new infected, jump button, army crawl, etc.) I think they did a very good job of polishing the gameplay. Overall, I think I should have just watched play-throughs of this game on Youtube instead of actually buying it myself.… Expand

    I feel pretty disappointed over on how bad the storyline is. Part 2 literally ignore the first Tlou purposes. More like there’s a lot of SJW’s involved in this game but overall, I’ll rate it 2 for the graphic and the team’s hardwork for this game. I appreciate it.

    This game is simply apathetic, it doesn't care about the first The Last of Us. You see how one person kill one of the two most important character of this franchise and then it forces you to play as her.
    None will deny this game looks gorgeous, but story wise is simply BS. It tells you that killing is bad, but you kill everyone in order to kill Abby and then you didn't. What about all of those other people you killed? Does that really end a cycle of revenge? No, it doesn't. It doesn't make sense.    … Expand

    OMG....I had such high hopes for this game, I ignored the leaks and was just excited to play the sequel to my fave game... but this is honestly 100% trash. The story went in a way that spits in the face of true fans. If you loved the first game don’t bother playing this, you will be broken. Naughty dog messed up

    Easily the most disappointing game I’ve ever played. While the game performs great and the graphics are absolutely beautiful, there’s no getting over the fact that your forced to play as the most hated video game character for 10 hours. Games are supposed to be fun, I guess ND didn’t get the memo.

You can't knock the game for that.. But the story itself was terrible. But the story itself was terrible. They completely ruined a beloved character and it was as if the writers forced him to act in a way that was unnatural to his established personality, said character acts completely different in the first game but does a 180 on the second within the first hour. And the political messages are really in your face, political messages are fine but it was too distracting in this game and took away form my enjoyment. I got 80% done with the story but i just couldn't finish the game because it just didn't keep my interest because i felt too much resentment from the writers. And it is completely valid to write a review on a game you didn't complete if you at least played more then half of that game, because it is on the game itself to maintain your interest.

    I hated the story just begging it to end from the middle of the game. Force you to play half the game with the murderer making him try to justify his actions and try to force you to like the character, they tricked us in advertising, I give this note because the graphics are the best I've seen, also the gameplay is the best, but the story is horrible and desperate, it hurts to see thisI hated the story just begging it to end from the middle of the game.     Why is this the Last of Earth Part 2? All of the character and personality of the characters in Part 1 are only Ellie's cursing and sexual identity. Joel became senile dementia, and Ellie forgot the expression and memories of her last part 1.
    This continues in part 2. Tommy told Maria to stop Eli's revenge, but later appeared suddenly and asked to take revenge. Abby was the character who justified Eli's sacrifice and became very angry when a colleague died. Later, however, she kills a colleague herself to save a rev.

    I tried to show through Elie that revenge is chained and only emptiness remains, but Eli didn't take revenge. After stopping revenge, Elie loses her father, friends, families, and her finger. Abby, who was cleanly revenged, was forgiven and returned to fireflies with her companion Rev. Even looking at this alone, revenge seems better.

    The game-play was not bad and the graphics were good, but I think the most important thing in the last of us is the story. I removed 7 points from the story. And I removed one more point from the rainbow and Jewish symbols not needed.    … Expand

What made it such an enjoyable game was not only the graphics and immersive gameplay, but the evolving relationship between Joel and Ellie. They are the heart and soul of the first game and what I expected of part II was to keep that heart beating, not rip it out with such barbarity as they did. The problem here is not Joel dying. It's how he died and why. You're forced to play a big portion of the game as Abby (Joel's killer) and it is as if Naughty Dog kicked you in the gut and laughed. The storytelling is shamefully weak and backwards, like next level character assassination which is apparent to anyone who played the first game. I don't care for any of these new characters and no matter how amazing the gameplay itself is I will not be able to enjoy it because its justtoo aggravating! 2 points for how stunning the game looks (which was to be expected anyway) and 0 points for the butchering of beloved characters.… Expand

    I absolutely love the visuals, sound design, soundtrack, and voiceacting in this game; however, all of that is nullified by a story that honestly falls flat on its face.

    A narrative should be more than just torture-porn carrying across the simple idea that revenge is bad. Anyone can write a story that simple and apparently anyone can **** it up.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me start out by saying I was all into the story line initially, essentially boiling down to a tale of revenge. It was dark, violent, depressing and I was all for it. I think if anything The Last of Us I and II gave a pretty realistic view that the world is more grey than anything, your choices have consequences and your story isn't always going to end happily. That being said, I felt like this game betrayed you in the end. As I mentioned before, this is a tale of revenge, you go through a lot as Ellie, as soon as Joel dies (his death btw, though I wished was more ceremonious in nature and wished he went out in a better way, I think fits the whole narrative that when your sins catch up to you, you go out in a bad, uncompromising, terrible way. It happens in real life all the time so I had no problems with Joel's death at all...loose giving away of personal info. and all aside). Ellie suffers the sting of revenge, the cost and toll it puts on you to hunt down someone. So you build up all this hate for Abby, feel for Ellie as someone hunting down the person who killed the closest thing to a father that she had and then the game forces you to play as Abby. That's right, flip how you feel about this character immediately and see her side of the story. Well, sorry, I can't and won't do that. I immediately became emotionally unattached to the game. Why would I want to take control of someone who I just spent the majority of the game hating? Someone I really needed to see dead to fulfill this story of revenge. So at the first opportunity to run Abby into Ellie or religious fanatics or infected that I got, I did it. Over and over and over and over and over again, just so I could see her die. I have no desire to understand Abby's side of things. I have no desire to see her humanized because everyone is the hero of their own story. I'm here for the story of Ellie and Joel. I get why Abby did it. She was fully justified in her actions and her reason for revenge, but that doesn't change the fact I want this character dead with every fiber of my being because she took Joel away in such a bad, gruesome way. He deserved better and she deserves to die for it.

    The Last of Us II isn't some redemption arc, from the start you're expecting some pretty messed up stuff. I mean, Ellie kills a pregnant chick for god's sake on her path of revenge. This game is not one that ends well, but I would have fully expected the developers and Neil Druckmann to at least give the fans the satisfaction of completing the revenge arc and seeing Abby die by Ellie's hands. BUT NO! ELLIE LETS HER GO! Are you kidding me?! That's how you choose to end this game? Ellie literally has nothing to show for any of this, her path of revenge made her lose everything and everyone in her life. Unbelievable. What was any of this for if you don't kill Abby? Nothing you did, all the loss and suffering means nothing. I can understand all the other decisions of the game if Abby falls to Ellie but because Abby lives it's like I may have just stayed in Jackson, in the settlement and lived out the rest of my days. Honestly if the game was going to let Abby live, it should have given the player the option to spare her life or end it. I know what I would have chosen, without a moment's hesitation...this is for Joel! Drowns Abby. Other than being forced to play as Abby and the horrible ending, everything else about the game is what you loved about the first game. The graphics, music, motion capture...all beautiful. Sure, no new game play exists but what I was here for is the story. The best parts of The Last of Us II are the best parts of The Last of Us, the interactions between Ellie and Joel, though this time it's relegated to cut scenes and movie flashbacks. Don't expect any game play between the two. Which, honestly I wish there were parts early on in the game where they put in clearing out an infected horde or something to get the feeling of Ellie and Joel teaming up and showing some great teamwork but alas, you'll have to get your Ellie and Joel interactions through cut scenes, which they really work, whether it's a happy or sad flashback, their relationship is why you're here to see what happened between them and like the feel of the game, it's very grey. Lost opportunity, wishing things could have been said differently or just made more time before it was too late to do so, all very realistic tones that we can relate with. But I just don't know if any of that, for as great as it was, can over come having to play as Abby and the terrible end. A shame, I think this game really could have been something special. Something that added to this series, but somewhere people lost sight and wanted to be too artsy with it all. You need to follow through on your core fundamentals and in this tale of revenge, you were not given that satisfaction and thus, the story and end means nothing.    … Expand

It feels so disgusting that they would lie like that about Joel's role in the game and then snatch the hope from us. The main motivation of Ellie could have been something to route for, like the GOW series, if the game wasen't as long as it was and if we weren't forcet to play as the main villan for 50% of the game.

    The main problem is the secund half of the game where you play as the bad guy and the game tries to humanize this person. It would be like playing as David from the first game and then trying to make him appealing, even thow he tries to make a little girl his own private toy and then try to slaughter her when she fights back. That guy is beyond redemption and we don't want to play as him, we want to shoot him.

    And the ending to The Last Of Us Part 2 is so dissatisfying, it would be like: in God of War 1, you didn't kill Ares in the end of the game becouse Kratos remembered his family. Ares is the reason why you are in such anger and pain, and you let him go? Why didn't thay let you have the choice of killing the main villan or letting her live in TLOU2? The ending would have been much better and rewarding. But the Game looks amazing, and the gameplay is quite fun and brings out memories from 7 years ago, a better time indeed.    … Expand

    If you’re going to take out of the game the main character and loved by the fans of the previous game while you expect them to be mad, AT LEAST give as a story that MAKES SENSE.

It doesn't matter that it involves gay and lesbian characters(for the people that will assumed that it does) it just wasn't a good story and that's what I play games for. The fight in the theater was bad because it made u play as Abby and think the u killed Ellie and Dina until it cuts to the farm they get and it would be better if the game ended there but it goes on with a 2 hour epilog to find Abby again and in the end of the final fight Abby leaves like she wanted to, killing Joel and leaving ok and Ellie wants to kill her but doesn't and lets her leave alive so the whole story is pointless. Ellie gets back home and finds that Dina left her and now she's all alone, everyone she's cared for has died or left her. This game is complete **** and the worse ending in video game history, the whole adventure and story was for nothing with everyone leaving or dying in the end besides the one that should've.… Expand

I played this game without looking at any leaks or spoilers and boy was I disappointed with this game, I can't begin to fathom how I feel seeing the utter disrespect towards it's fans from the game itself and the development team. I would not recommend wasting time playing this horrific game

But alright, I put up with it, move on. How should I empathize with Abby, she looks like a killing machine, she's always grim. Why is there no jokes or anything else in the game besides the memories with Joel to give the player a break from endless mourning and killing. Well, now let's talk about the end, and I have one question. Why the hell didn't you make a few endings. What is the whole point of the ending, why we have traveled so many miles, a huge number of people have died. Take and release Joel’s killer, are you serious?!? In technical terms, the game is good, I do not argue, but still this game is more about the plot, and here it is bad. I can’t understand why critics put this game at 10, the script of this game is a real arthouse, not everyone likes this game, I think that this game can only be put 7-8, and then with a stretch. To put 10, this game must be perfect, but it is not for everyone. I set 2 so that the developers change their minds and stop flirting with the LGBT community, and start making good games, like they did in the past.

    The story ruined everything, making tlou1 all in vain. The scriptwriter tried to deliver his own values by consuming the characters as tools. We players just want a game that not make us disgusting.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
