Unlikable and none important characters forced onto the player. Story is lackluster, mediocre, and plain boring. Bold decisions that lead to nothing ruined the experience and entirety of the game. Gameplay is fun however; if you enjoyed the first games gameplay then it is the exact same thing here.

The Dialogue sounds like something out of poorly written fan fiction. It honestly makes DmC: Devil May Cry's Dialogue look good

The Voice acting most of the time makes the characters sound monotone, especially Ellie and Dina

Character design... well they look like how real people would, with the exception of Tranny Armstrong

The Combat system is uninspired and mediocre

And the story Is awful if you're going to kill off a beloved main character, do it right. Do not kill them in the most disrespectful way possible, and then let the killer go free because "Revenge Bad" there is nothing satisfying in that.

There's a lot of attention to detail in the game. Too bad they put effort into that than anything else.

People who defend this game are pathetic, picking out the most minute details to try and distract from the sheer **** storm that this game is. In short, this game is like your average high school crush: They look pretty, and you can imagine having a good time with them, but in reality, they're just devoid of anything interesting and all they have going for them is good looks

This game is visually stunning, no denying the talent of the artists.

However, this game story wise is a complete swing and a miss.

If you played TLOU part 1, which you should have by now, you will quickly realize this is more or less the exact same game. Its basically point a to b fetch quests. It brings zero innovation to the table and you have literally have done everything in this game in other games.

What is absolutely terrible is the company lied to us and if you play as a certain character you are forced to kill dogs. There is another scene where the director of the game inserts himself in the game for a very lewd sex scene which is very disturbing.

You really are not missing much and I recommend skipping this game.

Gra The last of us 1 dała duża poprzeczkę dwójce , szczególnie gdy gra jest pół filmem pół grą .
    Fabuła do połowy 610 , później -1610

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow... just wow. TLOU1 was one of my favorite games of all time, and primarily because of the story. The story in this game is warm, wet, diseased diarrhea. Seriously, the worst story of any game I've ever played... ever. The best example I can give is that this is the gaming equivalent of Game of Thrones Season 8. Good writing... NAH! Just have characters do things that are completely out of line with their character and "subvert expectations"! If you're considering this game because you loved the first one... just don't. Just remember it the way it was and don't tarnish the memory, because this game wipes its ass with the first game. This game is beautiful visually and is well made mechanically, I'll give it a couple of points for that but the AI is not good, gameplay is very repetitive and the story is absolute trash. Expand

The last of us games have always been about the story in my opinion. It has beautiful graphics and nice gameplay similar to the first game, but this cannot hide or mask the huge flaws of the story. I’m not trying to spoil anything, but I would like to stop anyone from buying this game if they are like me and had a burning passion for the story of the first game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Prefacing this with the fact that I absolutely adore the first game, I completed this one and I don't care at all for any of the LGBTQ controversy about the game, i fully support the LGBTQ community even though I am not a member. Furthermore, apart from one point it has nothing to actually do with the story, and even at that one point the nature of the conflict itself isn't the point, it just creates a conflict that is a vessel for the main story.

The soundtrack is good but it's barely heard throughout. The graphics are blooming phenomenal. These are the only two positives for the game. The gameplay is better than the first but not by a large margin, and even seven years ago it wasn't a high-point. Furthermore, the gameplay doesn't build to a satisfying crescendo in any way, the fights and stealth are incredibly samey and it gets boring after a while. Never mind that a lot of the more "unique" fights come down to glorified QTE's that are also very samey.

The gameplay is especially tedious when you're forced to play as a character you will likely despise for half of the game. Right after dropping a cliffhanger in a climactic confrontation in the story you will be transported back three days to re-do the time from another characters perspective. It wrecks the build up and pacing of the first half, which was just okay to begin with. Then, the disconnect between how you feel and how you're forced to act with this character takes you completely out of the game and makes getting through this half of the game a thoroughly unenjoyable slog. This is a horror game, it's hard to be horrified when you're rooting for the player character to die, there is no tension and there are no stakes. It's laughable how off-tone it is. This is half the game, and not just that it is subjectively the better half in terms of cool set piece and zombie battles, but it's bland, boring and frankly infuriatingly frustrating when played with this character.

It isn't like the game doesn't attempt to make you relate to this character, it does, it just fails spectacularly. It tries to draw parallels with Ellie through inception-like flashbacks in flashbacks that mirror her growth and her experiences to make you feel that they've gone through a lot of the same stuff. Really though, it's just heavy handed and cheap, piggybacking off your relationship with Ellie to try and make a likeable character, or even a sympathetic character, because she's so similar, except she just completely isn't. They then give this character their own young child to look after just so it mirrors Ellie and Joels relationship, it's so contrived and plot convenient that this one person gets a relationship like that too. Another point, the actions of characters in the first one were believable, they acted how you expect them to given their character in any situation. In this one they act however they need to to advance the plot. The plot mostly being sadistic pornography for people who like suffering, because that seems to be the only thing they can depict well.

I'm not really sure if there is a deeper message to the game because the only ones I can see aren't particularly deep or thought provoking. Revenge begets revenge, the people around you also face the consequences of your actions, the world is an unforgiving place, other people are people too so you should try to understand them. None of these are great messages, for the first two bad people get away with doing bad things all around the world all the time even today, they especially do in an apocalypse, hell literally THE BAD GUY in this game does. The second is so obvious it's not worth arguing. If one needs to be told the last they might actually be a psychopath, but this game takes it too far in trying to forgive literal torture and brutal murder.

If there isn't a point and it's all just about showing bleak reality then F me is it a terrible thing to do, and it's even way over the top for an apocalypse. You, among other things, are forced to kill dogs, watch beloved characters get maimed or killed indiscriminately, kill named characters repeatedly because they attack you and are then made to feel bad about it later, kill a late stage pregnant woman (She literally watches you fight and kill a bigger, stronger male whose job it is to murder things, then attacks you while like eight months pregnant. It's unbelievably grotesque and stupid, especially when it again adds nothing to the plot other than to cheaply make Ellie look evil). Also that pregnant lady goes out on patrol, gets in gunfights, climbs and ropes and ninjas about. it's insane that anyone thought this was believable.

The game spits on the corpse of the first, having you strangle Ellie as the other character and also literally spitting on Joels mutilated corpse right at the start, because despite marketing materials, Joel dies at the start. The trailers lie. There are many more issues, watch playthroughs. Worse than GoT Season 8.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Please, please, please, if you enjoyed the first game do not buy the second one. The last of us franchise was broken by this game... Good Parts of the game, the graphics are beautiful they’re great, the soundtrack was good but needed a little more work. The details on the characters like the eye balls were incredible and the blood on the character when you kill someone. The gameplay was alright but out of date for this generation. But none of that impacts the story in any way. The story just completely bombed the game for me, the ending had me depressed, like what the **** happens afterwards, why did Ellie have to lose 2 fingers and lose the ability to play the guitar and why did Dina have to leave, what **** writing, That ending really annoyed me like what the **** we needed to have Abby die or Joel die at the end. Joel’s death really pissed me off as well he shouldn’t have died to a ****ing GOLF CLUB!!!!! He would never trust anyone like them. The story let me down and the last of us franchise is not the last of us without Joel and Ellie and we got about two hours of them together throughout the game also when playing as Abby it was so difficult to carry on because her character is just so terrible also you have to play as her for 10 hours and it is equivalent to doing chores for hours on end not doing what you want. This game would be like if Harry Potter said to Lord Voldemort after hunting him down and then finally getting there and then fighting him and then getting a memory of lily and James and then saying **** it you can go. What a let down of 7 years of waiting. My Overall Rating would be a two just for the graphics and the soundtrack. You have to watch videos of Abby dying Over and over As they are so funny and because you reading this probably hate her too. This is a genuine review for me after playing it myself. Please save your money for Cyberpunk or Ghost of Tsushima. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Game play was similar to the first installment., The graphics are just awesome. The plot and story went in a direction I honestly didn't expect, especially after waiting for 7 years. Some of the marketing tactics used to make a selling point for the game were misleading. In the first installment there was a big focus on character devopment and building an emotional bond between the player and the characters. This current installment came off like it was going to force you to have an emotional bond with Abby and friends. This would've been a more acceptable story line if some of the events were presented in a different order. More time was needed playing with Joel and Elle to allow players to fill the same nostalgia they felt for the first installment. If this happened and within the mist of Joel saving Abby there was the flashback to the end of the first installment and then a subtle transition to the charter Abby's flashback point of view there may have been some aple time to develop the emotional bond the game leads me to believe they wanted the player to have with Abby. If your upset your less like to try and focus on the trails and tribulations that Abby faced growing up and this greatly impacted the way players saw her character. Also, the impact of the violent acts to follow may have been better understood and wouldn't have garnered Abby that instant hate from the fan base I previously referred to. Thubk about it, who wants to play a game with a character you absolutely dispise and can't relate to? No one. There was also a change in the flashback in this installment that didn't mirror the actions that took place at the end of the first installment. So plot holes and just overall continuity of the story began to crumble. Another continuity issue was with the characters. Joel and Elle both were just doing things that based on the character development in the first installment doesn't match the actions/decisions they were making in this installment. It was like they were the same characters, but not really. So a lot of sequences that took place in the story felt forced. You end up just not caring about any of the characters that were not in the first installment and I believe that couldve been different with a change in the sequence of events/flashbacks. Lack of puzzles compared to the previous installment. The ending, I don't know, it seems like there was some confusion in the writing department as to how they really wanted the ending to be. Almost as of they wanted to kill Elle, but of that would have surely meant the end of this series. This very well may still be. We will all have to wait and see.

Overall: 2/10 (I see no replay value for fans of the first installment)

Game Play: 9/10 (similar to the previous installment w/minor hiccups here and there)

Organization/Sequence of events: 1/10 (the player response didn't have to be forced, and character development could've been much better with just a few changes to the sequence of events)

Story/Plot: 3/10 (initially started off as a good story, but the sequence of events just ruined the view of the story the writer wanted it to originally have)
Graphics 9/10 (were just awesome just like the previous installment, although I thought the frame of Abby couldve been a little more polished. Should've had the appearance of being strong without being freakishly looking)

Character Development 0/10 (when it comes to the time players have spent learning Joel and Elle compared to the newer characters...there just wasn't sufficient enough time to develop emotional bonds or gain a true understanding of those characters, thus no interest in them at all)

    Replayability 1/10

The story though doesn't make much sense: Characters don't behave like we know them and make choices that every fan of the game would frown upon. The also try to tell us she's a great characters by showing her pet dogs and be an animal lover.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So disappointing, The last of us is one of my favorite, if not my favorite game of all time. So for me to see what has happened with the story, which i believe the first game has one of the best stories in all of entertainment media, is so disgusting. It feels as if the writers wanted to force upon us an agenda that none of us were asking for. It didn't matter that the characters are gay, trans, or otherwise to me. I was disappointed with the story, which i waited 5 years for. Sure the opinion of whether the story is good or not is subjective but the way things happen and the way that certain characters act uncharacteristically is so stupid. The fact that after abby kills joel the only thing and i mean the ONLY thing us the player would want is to kill her, we have to play as her for 10 HOURS, WHAT!? How did that get through 7+ years of development and they said "yeah thats great, leave that in there they'll never see it coming" Of course we wouldn't, its the dumbest thing that anyone could write. D&D would be able to come up with a better story and you all know how GOT is in season 8. And the cherry on top of this **** sundae, is you finally find abby as ellie, you have her literal throat in your hands and you let her go!? Because revenge is bad!? Even though abby had a **** revenge spree the whole game and she gets off SCOT FREE!? BUT REVENGE IS BAD!?!?! I haven't been this disappointed in a story since the last jedi and im not even that big of a star wars fan. Just because its subversive doesn't make it a good story. I feel like all of my favorite IP's are just getting butchered by these agendas that have NOTHING to do with it. When are creators going to learn that the more you try to force what YOU think we should believe in, the less we care about it. The game starts of okey, until we meet Abby. Abby is a terrible written character that we are forced to play with in order to kill off our beloved Joel. Big note; its fine to kill off a character, but in such a retarded meaningless way. Its makes 0 sense. The game should have given us backstory on Abbie so we would be able to feel for her and making this scene understandable. The moment in when Abby kills Joel this is all missing. Straight of the bat we hate this character and nothing what you will tell us will fix that. In part 1 when Joel killed the doctor's, that we could understand, because of the loss of his own daughter at the beginning and the bond he and Ellie grow to have. Ellie is his surrogate daughter. All this bonding makes part 1 so good and this is what was all missing in part 2. Storytelling, bonding, taking you on a journey of survival. This game was about non of that. The best moments in this game were the flashbacks of Joel and Ellie. I w

BUT the shocking story line where you make what feels like basically no progress for hours just makes the game uninteresting. Also forcing you to play as a character you hate for 10 hours is unbearable, they try and make you connect with ABBY so you understand why she kills Joel but they do it in a way which makes Joel look like a complete idiot by going into a room with unknown armed people and just outright say his name. this is a completely different character to the first game who as, weary extremely cautious and overall a great survivalist. They clearly don't listen to there audience if Neil Druckmann had even seen the PSX 2016 crowd reaction to Joel appearing then how in the world could he think the script he wrote would be accepted by most of the fans. what could have bee the best sequel to a game in the past decade was ruined by agenda pushing and forcing players to do things they don't want to do. I'll just forget this game and pretend it was never released and it ended in part one and Joel and Ellie just carried on surviving. Expand

The "dedicated jump button" that was bragged about in this game is barely considered a jump and is more of a skip that is rarely used unless you're trying to get from one ledge to another (which only happens a handful amount of times). The existing characters from the first game (mainly Joel) feel like they got Men in Black flashed and forgot their personalities. The "Do whatever you can to get revenge" plot is exhausting and unoriginal. The new characters feel extremely forgettable and the game tries too hard to make you care about them rather than let you naturally get to know them. There's a few points in the game that seem like such cliche "bombshell" moments to try to force you to connect to a character who has barely had any "screen time". Where the story, characters, and core gameplay mechanics fail, the graphics are probably the best I've ever seen in any video game and are oftentimes breathtaking. The water effects and the landscape are amazing and immersive. If only this story based game had more going for it besides that. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A real disappointment, if anything. Graphical fidelity and environments are beautifully crafted, although the game switches from an open area style to a more linear style quite early on, which I thought was odd, because the open environments were some of the best in the game- regardless the graphics and environments are what I would almost call groundbreaking- if death stranding didn't exist. In terms of gameplay, it's almost unchanged from TLOU1. Gunplay and fighting all work more-or-less the same, crafting stays from the first game and are identical, very little innovation in that sector but honestly, it holds up fine. The story, however, is where this game takes a massive nosedive. Most of my points have been noted already, but here's what I found absolutely awful about the story. Uno: the way Joel's death was handled. Joel had to die, let's be honest. The story wouldn't have been able to take a step forward without his death (although admittedly the story didn't mean to take a step forward- the story was concluded in TLOU1 and should have stayed that way). But the way they handled it was absolutely laughable. If they had structured the game differently and included some of the Abby sections and flashbacks BEFORE Joel's death, it might've worked narratively. But this game fails to do that, and instead of an emotionally charged scene where we develop hatred towards Abby, we get an emotionally charged scene where we develop hatred towards Neil and his **** self-insert. Couple this awfully-done plot point with characters being forgotten about by both the player and the actual in-game characters (i forgot Manny's **** NAME after he was killed, and only knew him as "Neil's **** self-insert for the rest of the game, and apparently so did Abby because he's never **** mentioned again). Along with the single worst ending in the history of any videogame ever, and it all amounts to a story that goes nowhere, stands for nothing and utterly ruins everything that was great about the first game. Well done Naughty Dog, you done **** up. In the words of Joel: "There was a sequel. Wasn't as good." Expand

It breaks my heart to write this, but I really did not expect such a poor story after all these years of waiting. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have never written a game review before, and probably never will again, but I feel compelled to do so for this game. The Last of Us was one of my favorite games of all time. I think for a lot of fans of this, many of whom are writing negative reviews for its sequel, the original was transformational in terms of what it did for the medium. It created an emotional impact greater than certainly I thought possible by using the unique features of the modern video game (creating a sense of investment in a relationship between two characters over a 20 hour-ish play time). I hoped (and during the first half of the game or so thought) the Last of Us Two would continue the pathbreaking tread. Instead, the sequel was by far the most disappointing game, really most disappointing media experience, of my life. My dispute with this game is essentially entirely with the story, as the graphics and game play are top notch. Or as top notch as anyone would expect from a game that was always going to be mostly about the story, as the original was.
The story begins with a compelling enough revenge motivation, with a beloved character being savagely murdered after being uncharacteristically chartable and trusting. Now, I know some people have a problem with the ham fisted nature of the death scene, both for its brutality and the uncharacteristic wa Joel walks into an ambush and gives away his true identity. But that could have been fine, as it adds to the seeming senseless of his death and casts him in an even more positive light than it might otherwise, as he is savagely murdered mere moments after saving his killers life. From this point, until the midway point or so, we have a relatively standard revenge story as Ellie and co go west for payback. This is paired with a very promising, but ultimately underdeveloped relationship between Ellie and her girlfriend, as well as Jesse (the father of the child Ellie’s partner is carrying). This had so much promise, but the games rush to focus on its true narrative hook prevents this point from being developed.
The second half of the game, which begins with Ellie and co getting ready to flee Seattle after recusing Tommy and learning that her partner is pregnant, is where the game becomes essentially torture via videogame. After Jesse, one of the view new and relatively interesting character’s is murdered by Abby, and Abby is threatening to do the same we are treated to a flash back. Of Abby’s youth. Remember, this is the same Abby who bludgeoned Joel to death, while Ellie—his surrogate daughter—begs for his life. It would have been hard, perhaps impossible, to make Abby sympathetic to fans of the first game no matter how hard they tried. And they try very hard, but it a completely bizarre and ineffective way. The put their best foot forward by showing that Abby is the daughter of the doctor Joel kills at the end of the Last of Us. This is a fine start I guess, but I think the author’s just didn’t understand the emotional attachment they were pushing up against. The whole effect of the compelling story of the Last of Us 1 was to make us care about Joel and Ellie, we emotionally identify with them as the player. So trying to redeem his killer, for fully 10 hours, is just never going to work unless it is done exceptionally well. And its not. There is a short scene establishing Abby’s relationship with her dad, followed by some rather boring sections with her as a WLF soldier, and her romantic relationship with one of Joel’s fellow killers. This relationship, told in about two scenes, does very little to humanize Abby or make us care. Realizing, as they must have, that merely having her dad get killed and showing that she had a boyfriend she sorta cared about once wasn’t going to be enough to even the scales for killing Joel, the writers through in a redemption arch. Which is a fine idea, if it wasn’t implemented in the most absurd fashion possible. After Abby goes AWOL to see her ex boyfriend, she encounters two scars, members of the enemy faction who we are led to believe she has been slaughter for her entire time in Seattle, save her from another group of Scars. So, as you do, you decide to betray the cause you have fought for years to save these two outcasts, at some point literally mowing down her former comrades as they lay siege to the Scar base. And, because they needed to make the Scar outcast story compelling, but obviously didn’t have the time (or the desire) to tell the same kind of detailed two sided narrative, the scars are outcast because one of them is trans and the scars kill trans people. Excellent. Rather than a compelling attempt at being inclusive, this just feels like exactly the kind of lazy good v. evil narrative that the whole dual Abby/Ellie story is supposed to put the lie to. Abby just comes off as evil, her redemption is absurd.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics: Graphically this game is stunning in every way. The attention to detail is so in-depth that it is easy to see how much love and care was put into this department. This is without a doubt the highlight of this game.

Gameplay: The mechanics in this game feels very repetitive and almost completely similar to the prior installment. It's a constant move around loot and shoot, with some occasional puzzles in between. There are points in the game where it feels like the gameplay comes to a very slow halt for a time.

Story: The story starts rather nice and feels like a very warm welcome to a long-desired game. However, this welcome is soon spoiled by the very controversial scene in which Abby kills off Joel. His death feels rather early and shoe-horned in to move the plot along. The story feels all over the place in the middle to end game. You spend time making connections to characters with Abby, all while knowing they are going to die later on, because of Ellie's section of the story you know that these characters meet their fate at Ellie's hands. You basically kill a character to learn about hem 2 to 4 hours later in the game. Now, the ending of the game I know most are upset with, I understand why they feel this. You spend upwards of 20 hours in a revenge plot for Ellie to kill Abby, and right when you are about to achieve this goal it feels like a total slap to the face when Ellie spares Abby instead of getting her revenge. However, I understand that by this point in the story that Ellie might not want to kill anymore, she's been traumatized by Joel's death and witnessing the many losses of her friends. The only point in this game where the story feels actually well told is during the flashbacks, Abby included, seeing the duo of Joel and Ellie again is enough to bring a tear to your eye. Just seeing the father-daughter connection again made me smile for a short time.

Characters: Almost no character in this story is ever actually developed, minus Abby, Ellie, and Lev. The side characters that travel along with you get very sudden and stupid deaths. Just about every time someones dies in this game, they are never mentioned again. Abby's reaction to seeing Manny die in front of her is just to run away, she never even says his name or mentions anything about him ever again. This formula sticks to every side character that dies. As I've said prior, the characters are barely fleshed out at all, and the little you do learn about them is pointless.

Voice Acting: The voice acting in this game is fairly decent, minus some parts in which there is some rather odd dialogue that just feels out of place.

Overall, I feel if the story was told in a reorganized manner (No plot elements changed) so that the story flows better, I could've enjoyed the game a bit more. Characters that I want to make a connection with just feel hollow, like cardboard cutouts. The gameplay can be repetitive and boring at times. The graphics really carry this game to the best it possibly can.

How in the world could Naughty Dog so thoroughly destroy some of the most beloved video game characters of all time? Killing Joel in the way that they did was an absolute disgrace to his character and spit in the face of the fans. Then being FORCED to play as his murderer for HOURS while they poorly try to make her out to be a sympathetic character is insane. I felt no sympathy for Abby or her friends and all I wanted to do was slay all of them in the most brutal fashion possible the entire game. The characters aren’t even half as interesting as the ones in the first game. The story is all over the place, the pacing is off, overall from a storytelling perspective it seemed really lazy. As shallow as the god of war games were, they made a better revenge story than the last of us part 2, and as bad as Spiderman 3 was as a movie it had a better revenge/forgive story. The way they tried to deliver the story in this one was just push the player and use shock value moments. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Despite the immensely great gameplay that builds off the first game, along with a stunning visual setting in Seattle, I can't ignore the fundamental flaws of the story itself. It isnt the gay relationship of Ellie and Dina, nor the buff Abby. My main problem is the treatment of the characters such as Joel. Unlike many, my problem isnt the death of this beloved character but rather the timing, execution, and logic of it. Joel, the strong, untrusting protagonist of the first game, falls victim to Abby by giving out his name. They do this only 2 hours into the game to set up their revenge plot. The game tries to be philosophical but fails to do so. Then, the game forces us to play as his murderer for half the game and attempts to make us sympathize with her. Despite many not doing so, the ending doesnt even allow Ellie to exact her revenge, not even by the will of the player. Giving a choice to do so would've not only made it more immersive but made more sense considering Ellie murdered so many of Abby's friends in pursuit of justice for Joel. It's a convoluted story with beautiful gameplay, but, in my opinion, a game like the Last of Us should be more about narrative than gameplay. I just wish this game lived up to the success of the first game. Expand

The game opens to an absolutely tragic and one of the worst creative decisions in video game history, words are literally not enough to explain the devastation without going into spoilers. You are then literally forced to turn against the characters you love so much from the first, and absolutely destroy the memories of these cherished characters in the most inhuman, vile, despicable, disgusting ways imaginable.

Onto the pros, exceptional environments, the graphics are right at the top and look simply stunning, animations are top notch.

All of this though is absolutely meaningless as your soul will be snatched from weak narrative and a disgraceful story. Anyone who even has a ounce of respect and admiration for the original I’m literally begging you do not buy this and save your money please. If you want to be utterly devastated and left depressed while thoughts of what you’ve had to endure linger in your mind a long while after completion then go right ahead and buy this shambolic vile piece of media. I’ve genuinely never been left feeling so depressed and empty from any form of media whether film, music etc. I’m not joking and being deadly serious, you will leave this game feeling suicidal.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You know, this game really was just a massive, massive disappointment all around. I never played the first game, but I heard really good things about it, and I loved what I saw of the story! Hell, when I heard this was coming out, I was debating actually getting a console to play the game, and actually buy the sequel. I enjoyed watching the first one so, so much, and my friends loved this game. But all of this is a real slap in the face. Between the ego of Neil Druckman (who has scummy, creepy male feminist written allllll over him), the misleading marketing, and the poorly thought out damage control after the leaks - this was already looking really, really bad. And when the story that was fully released ended up being worse than I ever could have imagined - just... thank God I didn’t buy this hunk of garbage! The leaks were actually a huge help for me.

Then, when you top everything else off with a forced gay relationship for obvious pandering reasons, some seemingly anti-Christian vibes (admittedly, I don’t know tooooo much about this one, but I’ve seen glimpses of some weird commentary on religion, at least from the leaks), and other divisive subjects... well, this is just the definition of a bad modern game. And it’s a real shame considering how nice the game’s graphics and gameplay looks!

A big gripe I have personally, is that this feels like it’s just another line in the long string of forced content in media that makes me wary whenever I see a homosexual relationship in media - and I myself am gay, and I currently have a boyfriend. And honestly, it’s flat out sad to keep seeing this - as someone who’s interested in game development and world-building, I’m not sure if I should include certain characters in my games dude to the negative reputation they’ve garnered in games and media, unless gay relationships can stop being constantly politicized and used for pandering.
And honestly, I can’t say that I blame the people who eat upset with them - because honestly, I get annoyed by them now too nowadays, even if they’re not that preachy. And with this game in particular, the relationship seemed kind of off from the start. I understand that they made Ellie gay in the DLC for the first game, but to my knowledge, that was a bit more natural, but given Druckman’s increased involvement with that game, it was more likely than not inserted for political reasons.

I haven’t watched their relationship as closely (because honestly, I don’t really care about their dynamic - I was invested in Joel and Ellie’s father-daughter dynamic much, much more), but my closest friend, who, to clarify is a lesbian in an active relationship, told me it was dumb as hell, and obviously inserted to preach at the audience and please the Twitter mobs. I know that a lot of people don’t focus on this issue, mainly because they don’t want to be called an “-ist” and a “-phobe,” but I don’t think it should be dismissed - and I don’t think there’s anything wrong making fun of it, or any of the other pandering!

So, in summary, this game is a huge letdown in just about every way - heck, I don’t even really want to watch a full play through at this point, especially since I’ve seen how this ends. This game is getting the blowback it rightfully deserves, and I’m going to do my best to pretend that this entire sequel never happened, and that we just have the Last of Us - no DLC, no Part II - just a lovely, well-designed, and truly wonderful game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Obviously, the game is really great when it comes to visuals. Some of the best graphics out there. Gameplay is similar to the original with some upgrades here and there. Customization capabilities, even when it comes to the AI for inidivdual enemies is pretty cool. That will probably be splashed into many single player campaigns in the future.

However, for a story driven game like The Last of Us, the narrative was awful. The first game had success due to the dynamic between Joel and Ellie. This dynamic only appears in the flashbacks in the sequel, and it is a stark difference from the rest of the game. Old characters seem to have been retroactively changed to fit the new story. Actions taken by them in the sequel would never have been taken by them in the original. New characters are incredibly difficult to relate to, and even when backstory is given, many decisions they make are very hard to empathize with.

It seems like Naughty Dog wanted to create a game that simultaneously tarnished the memory of its predecessor and made anyone playing it miserable.

Yes, there are some good elements that should not be ignored. The graphics are unbelievably real and the gameplay consists of some enjoyable parts. The music is also nice. Having said that, i think the biggest percentage of the people who waited for this sequel, wanted it mostly for the story. This is where i am biased and although if someone rates the game separately, meaning graphics 10/10, music 7/10, gameplay 7/10, story 1/10, it won't get a 2. But given of how disappointed i am from the story and the fact that i waited for so long for this, i really can not give this game more than 2. Unfortunately, the creators and everyone around it will say that most reviews are bad because the don't believe in diversity and stuff like that, but everyone of them seems to forget that the DLC in the first game had already told us that Ellie is lesbian and 99% of the gamers did not seemed bothered at all. Diversity is not the problem, using diversity in order to make a game relevant and edgy is the problem. P.S. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm concerned by the reverse review bombing inflating this game with 10s and well as the normal review bombing giving it 0s, so I decided to create an account to give a fair review.

I'll sort the game into positives and negatives and give it a score based on that.

    Positives
Excellent graphics. It has indisputably some of the best graphics of the current generation,
Limited bugs. Yeah, this is a major positive to me, in an era where releasing a buggy mess and fixing it post launch is the norm.
Fun Gameplay. It might be generic, but it's also fairly fun and not broken.

    Negatives.

The story is poor at best.

The game takes odd stances. Ellie faces a small amount of bigotry, refuses food during a post apocalypse scenario where food would be difficult to get and the particular type of food would be near impossible. This, while it would appeal to people today is incredibly stupid post apocalypse.
Combine that with the fact that she can forgive the person who murdered her father figure and who had killed her friends throughout the game makes it feel like it's just for the player, in the way that old terrible games or shows would stop mid-moment to go "and this is bad" directly at the watcher.

The gameplay, while fun, is generic. I've included this on both positive and negative because it really is a bit of both depending on what you go into the game for.

Racism. This one is a bit of an odd one, to be sure. But it's also true. Abby's dad? The scientist killed in the first game? He was black. Then 2 came out and suddenly he's white.

And finally, and this is subjective, Neil Druckmann's self references that are throughout the game from the card to the favourable place in the starting credits and more, feels self-congratulatory instead of tongue in cheek.

Before the score, I'll elaborate on the story being poor.

It tries to convince people of the message that revenge is bad, but it does so incredibly poorly. The character who gets revenge gets all the traditional story framing for this character is good and even gets rewards for it.

The character who gives up on revenge goes through pretty much every over the top traditional way to say this character is irredeemably evil, kills a lot of people and then decides to give up on revenge at the very end. It's both out of character for the character they force you to build and causes the message to be mixed because instead of it all saying revenge is bad, the only way to remain a good person instead of a caricature of yourself is to move on?

It says revenge is bad except when it isn't.

Finally, onto the score. I'll start with 5 and then give and remove points based on the positives and negatives and what they mean to me.

    Good Graphics, +1 = 6.
    Limited Bugs. +2 = 8
    Fun Gameplay +2 =10.
Poor Story with mixed messages -4 = 6
    Odd Stances -1 =5
    Generic Gameplay -1 =4
    Racism -2 =2.
    Potential self-congratulatism -0 =2

If the last wasn't potential it's be -1 but it's subjective so -0.
With all this in mind, my score has to be 2.

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If only I could excuse you for what you did to Joel’s character, along with the original nature of all TLOU characters, this game would be great. But you take the cautious slow-to-trust Joel who will ignore a family on the road and kill and “injured” man with his truck (rightfully so), and make him into a weak, pathetic excuse of an imposter. How could Joel ever trust a random stranger in the woods instantly, let alone a whole freaking suspicious gang of them? And after years of killing, and literally annihilating the Fireflies and preventing a vaccine, you still decide to keep your same name. Pathetic. joel should have died heroically, or at least not by his own stupidity that’s not true to him.

And for you to make 10 hours of gameplay attempt to make Abby’s actions appear valid, to the point of forcing the player to bash Ellie’s face in nearly?? Anyone with half a heart and brain would be able to reason better that Joel’s crime was far more justified than hers. Her story line is disgusting, horrible filler material.

And Ellie. Raised on the grit and character of Joel and the feds, she even showed this in the first game very quickly. Yet somehow she now second guesses her vengeance AFTER murdering hundreds of people, which costs her everything? You leave your dedicated fan base with nothing to enjoy, nothing to even feel good about being sad about. Her last moments with Joel shown, the brief bliss of JJ, finding Abby - I would’ve even been happier if she just got in the boat at first, and not blue ball her death just to make a pointless point.

This game pushes a lot on its fans - many of which are no longer fans - and though you may think you’re “righteous” for teaching everyone a lesson in revenge (which was horribly HORRIBLY contradicting itself every other chapter), all you’ve done is abandon TLOU and kill off everyone who waited for the ACTUAL story to continue. Not this half-baked crap.

I won't go into spoilers, so I will try to give as much detail as possible without ruining your experience.

Took me around 40 hours to complete the game. Played on Normal. However I'm the kind of guy who tries to collect everything. Either way what is obvious the game is done almost perfectly in the technical area. Actually I came just across 3 bugs - one time the light from the flashlight got disconnected from my character, needed to reload the game from the previous "checkpoint" and it went back to normal. The second bug was with the rope which came alive and was acting like a snake (really - I even recorded a video). The third bug was an NPC stuck because of my companion. Nothing too serious, especially that the game is long, so it's impossible to get rid of all the little bugs.

However. At first I didn't know what's the buzz about and why do people hate this game. The progressive ideology seemed almost absent, these topics were very minor and acceptable, so it didn't destroy the experience. But then the last 5-6 hours happended and oh boy! It's like some sort of crusade, really. But that's just the cringe stuff - makes you pity-smile, but doesn't ruin your overall experience. So that's not the main problem.

The problem are the plot holes, blank characters and really naive and stupid twists. The last parts of the game are so bad in matter of the story, choices, etc., that you just want to complete this game and forget it. What's funny though is that actually I liked the parts with Abby and have nothing against this character. The problem is in the story and in the fact that this game is boring-long and it spins the same loop all over again - cutscene, travel, shooting, collecting, and so on, and so on, and so on, dozens of times. Gets so repetitive after a few hours, especially that the locations (in the first 2/3 of the game) look mostly alike (devastated buildings) and the story is not motivating, so you get bored during cutscenes, you don't understand the motivations of the main characters, some things they do are pure nonsense and seem to be in the game just to make it longer. Yup, this game is way too long. The best parts in matter of gameplay are near the end, there's much more diversity and all the perks you acquired during your playthrough give you more opportunities during fights, so it's more fun. But only if you rate the gameplay, which still is far from perfect. While I like the visual diversity in the last parts of the game, I still don't fully like the combat system and the AI which is broken. You can go with the stealth approach and that's cool, but if the enemy spots you everyone runs towards you - all those contaminated just run at you almost without any strategy (yeah, their brains are rotten, I know), human NPCs on the other hand just act stupid. You can stay hidden in one place and kill like half of them, they will come at you one by one in the specific area, then you move to another cover and just wait to slash them, that's about it. And when there's chaos you just don't know what's happening. It gives you a feeling of randomness, many fights are like flipping a coin, you just get frustrated and your skill doesn't seem to matter. Some of the - let's call - bosses are almost impossible to kill, the game is not balanced perfectly (also seems that after a few failures with a "boss" the difficulty is being lowered, but that's just my opinion).

Either way the story is very weak, near the end it gets cringy because of politics and some other stuff. The game is also way too long, should be much more condensed, especially the first 2/3 of the game. It just gets boring and frustrating - you think it's almost over and you get a few extra hours of gameplay. Sure, this would be great if you like the story, but as the story is bad and you don't feel connected to your characters, you're not motivated and you just have enough of all those really stupid and naive twists. If something that happens like 5 times in the game can still be called a twist, but whatever.

Still, the game is not bad, but if you liked the 1st one there's a huge chance you'll be disappointed.

I'm rating this product as a whole - not only the game, but also how Sony and ND is treating the gaming community. It's really the final call to change something, enough is enough. Censorship is bad. If you're tolerant, open, if you actually like other people and if you're for true diversification and acceptance, then accept the fact that someone can have a different opinion or views than you. That's real tolerance that you accept the fact that someone has opposite views! It's easy to tolerate people who share your own vision of the world, right? So, no to discrimination and censorship, yes to liberty of speech!

And ND, please don't make a Part III. Just leave it as it is.
