The story of this game was so boring, the characters seem uninterested and bland. There is no emotion at all. Naughty Dog is pushing their woke agenda from many SJW's. The writing is so bad in this game. Thankfully I didn't purchase this game and avoided it.

I don’t have enough time or energy to explain how devastating this abomination of a sequel is. I am not a hateful person and I hold TLOU so close to my heart. What creators/writers have done to these characters, the one’s that meant something, is borderline unforgivable.

I am, in this particular case, grateful for those leaks and the automatic cancellation of my preorder. They allowed me to choose to instead watch this game from beginning to end and therefore not give them my $60.

There are so many bad and incoherent things and moments in this sequel. From the awful writing and beyond. There are some moments in this game that give me a heartbreaking glimpse at what could have been.

TLOU has no sequel. It stands alone.

You killed off the main character we played for 95% of the first game and then try to blame the reactions from gamers on not being woke and inclusive enough?

I will admit I don't often sign up to places to write a review but this game forced me to do so. I never played the first game till it came out as a remaster. So perhaps my standards are higher than most fans of the series. But the jump in visuals and game play seem very minor for a new AAA game. That alone was what earned the 2 pity points.

Every thing else about this game was pretty much a disappointment. How Sony and Naughtdog handled themselves leading up to it's release, the false promises and misleading trailers left a pretty sour taste in your mouth once you sit down and start playing the game. It was no surprise that I managed to get this game used about 24 hours after it's release, mostly so I wouldn't support the company with my purchase.

The story is bleak, depressing and pretty much the core of the game. No one plays a single player story driven game to hate the story. So while the graphics, music, game play are some what average the main focus drives the score down imo. I thought about giving it a zero just to off set all the all the fake positive reviews but in the end decided it would be unfair.

One of the features I found the most annoying is the complete by the rails story telling your forced into. This is a super linear game with pretty much no player choices that affect anything. Given the almost open world nature of the game and long slogs between story elements this seemed odd to me. It's like it wanted to be a Bethesda game, but couldn't be bothered to have branching story options or multiple endings.

In the end this game is a mediocre game at best with a beyond disappointing pay off and story. If you love watching people and animals be tortured, mutilated and killed for 25+ hours this is the game for you. Otherwise give it a pass and watch the news for a few hours and you'll be just as depressed.

The game is also the dictionary definition of pandering. Many of the “progressive” elements in the game are only there to cater to Tumblr and Twitter users so the game would get a good reception on those websites. I wouldn’t be surprised if they also weaponized those elements to do what the Battlefield team did and say “anyone who doesn’t like the game are just racists and homophobes.” If you were a fan of the first Last of Us this game can and will let you down. Honestly this “game” would have been a million times better if it was a movie. If you can find a way to pirate this game or legally obtain it without giving Naughty Dog a penny I would highly recommend you do so. The way they treat their employees should not be condoned or supported in today’s gaming industry. It’s honestly a shame they went from games like Crash Bandicoot and TLOU1 to this atrocity. I would wait until this game is marked down to $39.99 to buy it. Expand

The last of us part 2. oh god, alright. story wise, trash. everything else (graphics, gameplay, sound, voice acting, ect) amazing. hense the 2. for me, the reason i enjoyed part 1 was because of its increable story, compelling plot, and characters. having a dude who lost his daughter, through horrible eevnts, almost lose a second one was compelling, and felt human. on the contrary, we have a angsty revenge story. not to mention the fact they killed the best character of the game, joel, just like that. abby seemed like such a interesting villain, with her backstory and all. but it was ruined by the writting trying to make us think she was right to kill joel, just completly contradicting what the first game had worked so hard to do. thats bad writting. also why in the heck would joel trust a random girl he just met? he spent the first game not trusting anyone, and that was why his bond with ellie was so special, thats why saving her was so special. cons over, on to the pros.

    1. the game play
the fight scenes, and npc's felt more real
    2. the graphics
i mean this one is a given 3. sound
jeezous the music, amazing. i could listen to the osts forever
    4. voice acting
this is where i have to give major props. i mean just listen to the running moan in agony, it sounds like they are in real pain. ashley mever disapoints, hearing ellie scream as she watched joel be murdered in front of her hurt me on a level i didnt think a game could.
    5. the monsters
oh my god the monsters. i still cant get over the part at the begining where ellie fell through the ceiling and ellie almost got eaten by a clicker (then the clicker was shot by dina but no one cares about dina) 6. graphics
imma say it again. this game made me forget this wanst live action. every little detail was amazing. i am not at all hating on this game, i actually enjoyed a lot of the scenes, (mostly the flash backs with joel, sorry but ellie and joel are just too cute together)

in conclusion 2/10. sorry but story is very important to me

The rest however... oh man oh man... I am not even sure how to begin.

I can forgive killing main characters, I can forgive easy one-track stories, and I can forgive (a few) plot holes, as long as the main story and the choices have some kind of logic to it. I can even forgive playing the supposed antagonist (a psychopath by the way), or re-writing history. BUT extremely lazy writing, horrible character assassinations, coupled with really bad story I can never forgive.

However weird it may sound for a game several years in development; this game feels rushed. They did not have time to put in a good flowing narrative, they did not have time to check the dialogue, they did not have time to develop characters or write a compelling story. A game and a franchise which is all about the story, has a sequel which cares nothing about the story. Revenge is evil, circle of evil, and revenge is bad. Got it? Oh no? Let us remind you of this 100 times so you understand what this game is about - revenge is bad!
That is it? That is what you come up with after several years of writing and development?

I am not sure if this is the worst sequel of all time, but seeing how the first game was close to a masterpiece I have to conclude that The Last of Us II is the worst sequel of all time. Do not buy this, do not play it. Complete waste of time. Revenge is bad, all you need to know. Revenge is bad, now go do your laundry or watch paint dry up on a golf course which is a lot more fun than playing this travesty.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I want this review to be free of all politics and just be based off a pure story basis, the reason I gave this game a 2/10 is because its everything we didn't want in this game, first you kill off JOEL someone we grew to love over 7 years waiting for old man Joel in this game and maybe dying heroically for Ellie but instead he gets brutally killed off in 30 mins, almost like they wanted just gone and forget about him and look at this cool another person we have named Abby.

The gameplay I can't trash too much because it didn't change at all from the first game really so yah basic af still nice. Then after a bunch of bland basic convos we have to go get this oh no its block there must be another way around, we finally get some nice justice for Joel just for us to be stopped, to be forced to play Abby, someone, we grew to hate as soon as we saw her kill Joel, but wait you guys will love her just give her a chance, NO WE DONT CARE she just killed the main character all we all wanna do is kill Abby not learn about her backstory which is useless because we killed all these people already nice waste of time. And she is like playing a Walmart version of Kratos with her godly triceps and her haymakers she gives to zombies and then has lily who is a trash version of Atreus. This whole time playing her they try and make you feel guilty for killing her friends and this did the opposite I was so happy when they died in this game besides the dog :( but they also try and teach revenge is bad and the only person that wins in this is Abby she gets to beat the crap out of Ellie and they force us to do it which is bull because I would sometimes just jump off roofs on purpose just to see Abby die, and then at the end of it all we are about to kill her and we let her leave like what I get it in all but there should have been a choice for us at the players. All I ask of is now not to make a Last of us 3 and if you make a DLC for Last of us 2 don't make us play Abby or Anything to do with her because it will do bad I promise you it will.

On a technical level, at least in everything I’ve seen so far, there is nothing new to show here. Honestly the biggest change is they made the quick time events wayy better. It’s okay. This is the biggest title Naughty Dog has probably ever handled so the pacing feels really inconsistent. In the first three and a half hours, the first half hour is the best and then slows wayyyyy down. Last of Us and all the Uncharted games are about 10 hours each. This one is supposed to be ~20 hours I heard but there’s not a lot of game to fill that space out. It’s a lot of moving from one cutscene to the next with nothing connecting it, but honestly that could just be because they wanted a slower opening before things ramp up. Idk, the first Last of Us starts with Joel’s daughter dying in his arms and while it does have its slow moments, they were always there to service the story. For the most part I feel the first game kept a pretty consistent high tension/energy throughout the full game. Second one hasn’t lost me yet but it’s starting to drag a bit. For comparison’s sake, 2 has one high octane moment in the first three and a half hours and doesn’t keep the momentum going. The first game imo had the opposite problem of never dwelling on impactful moments and swept them aside, opting for a time skip any time something big happened, but because of that never decreases the forward momentum from the very first scene of the game. Okay I’ll say there is one thing I outright don’t like and it’s that you can’t replace bottles with bricks and vice versa like in the first game. Now if you’re holding a filthy bottle and wanna pick up a shiny new brick your only choice is to throw the bottle. Not sure why this was implemented but it was probably because of Bottle Propaganda. One good thing I can say about The Last of Us 2 is how impressive the enemy AI is. It’s probably one step away from perfect in my eyes, the one thing missing of course being that enemies will still mindlessly throw themselves at you rather than backing down or running away but games gotta game so I didn’t really expect anything like that. Aside from that, tho, enemies will flank you, push forward when you reload, and just genuinely approach combat in a realistic way I wasn’t expecting. Enemies can pull you out from under cars, shout out your positions to their allies, and rush you if you get too close. There is a level of cartoonish csilliness, however, that comes with the game’s running theme of uncomfortability. Something like 3/5ths of the time when you kill a human, their allies will call out their name in dramatic fashion. the gameintends this to be dramatic, but given the sheer amount of times it happens, the overdramatized voice acting, and the INABILITY TO AVOID MOST COMBAT ENCOUNTERS, it just comes off as super dumb. This isn’t my only issue with the game’s themes nor is it even the biggest, but that’s a topic for another time. Combat still isn’t as deep as I wish it was, but with zombies feeling “smarter” at times and humans functioning like living thinking obstacles, going through it feels less like outsmarting a computer and more like outsmarting real people. It’s honestly just mean spirited in general. I thought the first few hours were fine but once human enemies show up the game takes on this guise of “Oh how could you kill them, they had a family Expand

Naughty Dog horribly messed up this game, and adding on the way that they horribly handled the leaks by filing false & downright illegal copyright claims on anybody they could, this game is just a massive failure and let down. Had the writers at Naughty Dog had a bit more common sense and had they actually used sound story design techniques rather than using some cliche revenge story which has been done a hundred times over, this game would have been in contention for one of the best video games of all time. All that being said the gameplay is what you’d expect from TLOU. I’m not sure what all these “professional critics” were talking about when they said that Naughty Dog had “evolved the gameplay from the first game” as it’s almost a carbon copy from the 2013 original. Many hours of the game can be summed up as a “walking simulator” where the game simply tells you to follow someone or tells you to go from point A to point B constantly with no real gameplay. This honestly could have been better as a movie rather than a game. That being said, the graphics are stunning and the visuals and atmosphere are downright gorgeous. The game is well optimized and runs smoothly with minimal bugs and glitches. The game does a good job of putting you into the world and making you feel like you’re really in the game. Sadly I can’t give this game a high or even average rating. TLOU2 hinges heavily on having a good story to make up for the lackluster and extremely linear gameplay. However it’s really hard for a game in 2020 to be considered good or even great with dated gameplay that almost completely mimics it’s 2013 predecessor, when the whole story, is just one massive, uninteresting revenge story. Had this game had a far more compelling storyline with good character development and at least decent characters, it could have been at least a “good” game. Expand

They could have at least Abby fight just enough to get away, thus having Ellie swear for revenge would have even better than what we got.

Last of Us is narrative driven game, and narrative driven games usually lives or dies by the story. The entire plot of the story is cliched and hollow. It is literally a cliched revenge story where in the end you don't even fulfill the goal. Ellie Literally loses everything, but in the end after killing hundreds of people and losing her two fingers she is like revenge is bad. Literally entire game becomes meaningless, Joel's death becomes stupid and pointless.

The game also has a lot of "tolerance" moments, especially when the developers changed the skin color of the characters from the first part, Bravo! (the scene where Joel saves Ali in the hospital).
Technically, the game is perfectly worked out, my respect to all those who were engaged in development.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Seven years I waited for this sequel, with really (way to much) high hopes and anxious. I loved the first game, it was amazing and for my twelve-year-old self; mind-blowing. But suddenly I get a sequel where not only they kill the favorite character -which they used in the trailers knowing the amazing reactions they would have-, any type of character development and growth was lost within the first two hours into the game. Am I mad? Not anymore. Disappointed? Hell yes.

Joel's character, an 'old man' that in the first game could recognize an ambush anywhere and never trusted anyone to give any type of information that could kill him, suddenly is al friendly with someone HE SAVED (not the other way around). And when everyone starts to look skeptical after he said his name; he just stood there? Waiting for them to react instead of doing something? No, that's not the same Joel from the first game.

I won't talk about all the LGBTQ community and SJW thing because I don't care about that, I really don't. Ellie is homosexual? Okay, that's fine. Levi was a trans character? Cool. I really don't have a problem with that, so I'm not going to rant about it.

But it pisses me off that this game tried to make me feel sorry for Abby's character, when in reality, all I wanted to do was kill her. I wanted her dead as soon as she attacked Joel, even when I didn't know what he did to her. If you kill my favorite character, and make me play half of the game chasing this woman (with an unrealistic body that tried to "represent all women"), and then suddenly I'm playing as her; I will let her die many times in the gameplay, and still want her really dead at the end. She has no purposes more than revenge her father's death, and suddenly she has pity for a woman and her trans brother (which again, I really don't mind him being trans). Everything is just a mess, nobody feels sorry for her character and her past.

Not to mention the messed up timeline. The players bought the game hoping to play not only with Ellie, but to see the relationship of her and Joel growing even after he lied about the Fireflies. And what did we get? Some poor flashbacks that only makes you even more mad with his death, the worst one being the last one. That's it? They talk about "trying to forgive him" and next day he is dead? Nah, man, that's crappy.

The ending was just so... unnecessary. Why would I let her go? Why would I ever spare her after everything Ellie had to go through in the game? That's just crap. I did not kill every person that was in the room when Abby killed Joel, only to forgive THE ONLY CHARACTER Ellie wanted dead. Let's remember that she also almost killed Tommy, and that she was about to kill Dina without giving a flying damn that she was pregnant. The player spent 27 hours of gameplay and cutscenes, just to "Go. Just take him". If this game was about revenge, let me tell you; Neil Druckmann clearly failed.
I only gave this game a 2/10 because of the amazing graphics that had me in love with the visual. And the gameplay, the weapons and their upgrades were just excellent. It really sucks that they decided to ruin the storyline; this game would have been a masterpiece (as a lot of critics reviews said, not the users tho).

If your central premise in a game is to show me the futility of violence and revenge then don't make a game that 1) glorifies violence like some sick snuff movie and 2) force the player down a story path where I as the player have no agency over what happens but just partake in a 20+ hour linear quick time event. The second point is the most grievous. It shows both a lack of skill and laziness in creating a game that both wants you to experience a story or moral, but does so by not giving me the chance to make those decisions myself as the player, thus I don't really care.

The story was uninspired and simple. The characters were unlikeable and unbelievable. The violence and the bizarre sex scene where over the top and out of place. Sometimes, not showing has more impact. Sometimes, less is more.

As a game, this sucks and is a waste of my money. This would have been better suited as a movie, as that is what this is. A 20+ hour long interactive movie where I have no agency over what happens, about characters I don't care about and a story that is uninspired.

Then, the ending takes a complete 180 and drops everything at the very last second because "ReVeNgE bAd". No payoff. Zero gratification for spending roughly 30 hours playing a $60 game.

Because in the next 20 hours devs randomly kill and torture each and every significant character you care about for the sake of stitching together pieces of the "masterpiece" revenge story... Which is actually bits of obsession (Ellie) or heroism (Abby) mixed with pettiness... And ends with a cliffhanger... And then reboots with a fastforward bullcrap and more killing as if we're not tired anymore. And revenge once again.
Unfortunately, the sheer amount of drama related to LGBTQ(put more letters cause I don't fckn follow who is who anymore) makes this game immune to criticism in mainstream media. It's not subtle, it's not an optional side story to explore, it's definitely not a psychological dilemma. It is "we know better" one-sided crappy opinion shoved in players' mouths and they have to swallow it. Dare to badmouth it and SJW will gank up on your editor-in-chief and force you, as an author of the review, to leave with a brand on your forehead.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finished the game today, it took me nearly 24 hours. Graphics are fenomenal, mechanics are the same from the first game but evolved (which is exactly what they should've done), accessibility is to applaud. Technically it's an amazing game. But then we get to the story.
You don't play The Last of Us for the graphics or the mechanics, you play The Last of Us for the story. And Naughty Dog f*cked up royally story-wise.

The first game is the best game I've ever played in my life. The narrative took me with amazing characters into a rollercoaster of emotions. However, instead of a rollercoaster, Part II just goes downwards, it's only negative feelings, there's never good feelings (except for the Joel and Ellie's flashbacks). In contrast we have the first game that had cute moments like Ellie stealing the toy for Sam; earned love demonstrations like the "everyone f*cking except for you" scene and how Joel hugs Ellie and calls her little girl; scary moments and funny moments thoughout the game; the fear of losing Joel when he falls onto the rebar and the relief when you see he's actually alive. Part II doesn't have that essence. It tries to shove us shallow relationships between characters, but we don't have a connection to actually care about any of them. And the game doesn't do a good job on building it. Part II just shows revenge and a bloodbath, killing (almost) everyone on your way. It's just negative emotions thoughout the game.

Then we get to everyone's first or second favorite character's death, which happens in the first 2 hours of the game. Come on ND, you are smarter than that. The reason this game became one of the best of all time was the Joel-Ellie relationship. And instead of building over the amazing foundation you set with the first game, you decide to scrap all that and kill the main character in one of the dumbest ways possible for him. Both Joel and Tommy are survivors, they would never be so careless with people they don't know.
But if that's not enough, we are also forced to play as his murderer! And not for a little while, you spend almost half of the game playing as Abby so that you can understand why she killed Joel. Guess what ND, from the moment she kills my favorite character, she's immediatly unlikeable! I cannot relate to her! I don't care if you try to humanize her, I don't care about her story, I don't want to play with the person who killed my favorite character.

To make things worse, after killing hundreds of people to get her revenge over Joel and being seconds away from killing Abby, Ellie decides to let her go. So all those people died for nothing. She lost two fingers, Jesse died, Tommy lost an eye, Dina left her, Joel is dead. It was all for nothing.

Naughty Dog tried to show us how being good or bad guys is just a perspective. Joel was a bad guy for Abby, but her father was a bad guy for Joel. They tried to show us how the path of revenge is a destructive one that only makes you lose things. They tried to show us how, even though we may love a character, he is just a regular guy that can die in the same way any other would in that universe. They went the realistic way. But we were already emotionally invested. For a game that wants to mess with people's emotions, they failed to take that into consideration. Every single penny they make with this game is because of the first one. It's obvious that people wouldn't like to see their favorite character treated with such disrespect.

The sad thing is there will probably be a Part III. But I'm not even remotely interested. Naughty Dog, the company responsible for creating the best game I've ever played, killed the best game I've ever played. I'll try to take my mind off it and consider the first game a one and done thing.

The Last of Us 1 left me wanting desperately a sequel. The Last of Us Part II left me wanting desperately to forget there ever was a sequel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The only good thing about this game is the environmental design, graphics, and gameplay. I enjoyed running around collecting things, finding letters from people that gave the world a bit more life and tragedy to it, cracking the codes for safes, the rope puzzles, the up-close and in your face combat when you would melee or dodge someone. For all of that alone it earns a 2 from me.

The storytelling on the other hand... it's awful. Absolute garbage compared to the first game. After Joel was killed I was eager to get revenge, so when the confrontation between Abby and Ellie came I was ready for some fight scene to break out with our girl coming out the winner... instead you're forced to spend several long hours playing as Abby. Why? I asked myself that a lot. I hate her character, I hate the way she looks, I hate what she did to Joel, so why is that game putting all of these obstacles in my way in a weak and sh*t attempt to try and make her seem like a good person, and make the player feel bad for her?

By the time I finally caught up with where I left off as Ellie, you watch and play from Abby's point of view as she kills Jesse and puts a bullet in Tommy's head, and then stalks Ellie around the theatre. Ellie is equipped to her teeth with weapons and Abby is unarmed but somehow YOU'RE FORCED TO BEAT THE SH*T OUT OF ELLIE and nearly kill Dina, and right as this hulking monstrosity of a character is about to kill them, they are saved by the transgender kid that Abby befriended somewhere along the line.

Fast forward a few months and Ellie, Dina, and their child JJ live on a farmhouse somewhere. We're forced to play through a slice of life that honestly feels extremely out of place, and watch cringe interactions between them. Then we're shown Ellie has PTSD from Joel's death and the **** that went down in Seattle. Tommy comes over (who apparently isn't dead) and talks to Ellie about chasing down Abby... AGAIN. Ellie leaves in the middle of the night.

The ending is sh*t, this game is sh*t I wish it was never made, the story feels like it was written by an angsty twelve-year-old, and after I was forced to play as Abby repeatedly I lost all my motivation and interest.

The story is consistently stagnated as it plops you down at your spawn point and the game stares blankly back at you as you are given all the time in the world to scour every corner of an oversized map, scavenging bread crumbs across an entire city with no mention of the mission you're on. All the parts you need to upgrade your character are spread out in the city of Seattle and has absolutely nothing to do with your end goal. The hours I spent finding parts could have easily been cut in half if this game followed any kind of progression logic like the first game. Your ingame partner, whoever it is as its constantly changing between Joel and Dina and whatever other unimportant crew of side characters, is never challenging you as Ellie did in the first game. You don't have to worry about escorting them through the terrain as they brainlessly follow you around, climb and jump and talk mechanically about their past, all the while you'll be wishing you could push them off a ledge for some peace and quiet. An absolute joke compared to the first game where your companion was more than a ladder climbing npc. I haven't even touched upon the biggest oopsie, which is trying to fit two narratives into one title. The constant flipping of perspective will give you backlash and - honestly- I felt pretty disrespected throughout the entire thing. By the end credits, I had a slight sense of what the writers were trying to achieve, but did that warrant an entire game? Couldn't all of that been established in the first 2 hours of game play? How on earth did I just spend 6 ingame days playing as two different characters just to reach a conclusion that could have happened upon their first meeting? Come on, what a joke. The whole game is a joke. At any moment someone will find an easteregg cutscene that explains the story was all a bad dream and Ellie didn't just spend a week chasing the mailman. For me, unlike most people, i liked the beginning and the ending my only problem is how long you had to play as Abby which i didn't care about as much but if that part was shorter i would give the game a 10/10.

I came to this game because I'm a massive fan of Part 1. But what about part 1 made me such a big fan? Was it the gameplay? No... was it the graphics? No. Was it the scenery? No. What made me fall in love with the game was the story, it was the character growth, it was the character interactions. It was those points that I think most people liked the most. The thing I looked forward the most to in this TLOUII was the continuation of Joel and Ellie's story, or perhaps the story of a new character. I expected a well thought out, excellently written storyline. Instead I got a storyline dedicated to destroying beloved characters from part I, which was not well thought out, was not written well, and was full of ridiculous plot holes.
It does not matter that the graphics of the game is top-tier, or that the gameplay is smooth, or that that the background and environment is amazing, when the story is a pile of dung. And this is especially true for a sequel of a game that became famous because of the story. If I were to compare this to a steak dinner, then TLOU2 would have top quality mash potatoes, and asparagus cooked perfectly, basically the sides would be amazing. But the steak itself would be a 2 dollar rotting piece of meat overseared, overcooked and not looking too good.

If they wanted to write a story about a generic revenge story, they could’ve created a new IP, but instead, they choose an easy way out and build on top a story that should’ve ended 7 years ago.

I made an account just to review this game. I don't even want to finish it. I'm giving it a 2 just for visuals. The rest is garbage. Story is garbage. Ellie isn't even true to her character in this game. She is like a completely different person. Idk why I should care about Abby so I don't. Don't buy!

Finally the ending was awkward and forced, undoing everything that had been built up for that moment.
The graphics and sound are great, and the gameplay loop is mediocre as in the last one, but since this is a story-driven game, the absolute lack of skillful writing makes this experience a chore to go through. I just couldn't wait for the game to be over.

The ending so anti-climactic borders on ridiculous. Imagine killing a good number of enemies without mercy even a pregnant one just to get to Abby but at the last minute Ellie let's her live. This is the only review I’ve done for just about anything. Disappointing to say the least. I give a 2/10 just to commend the graphics and gameplay. It’s truly so bad that I regret even having played the original. Maybe I can understand why some may enjoy it, but I can’t support the game. This is just my opinion and I actually hope some can enjoy the game.

Don't create plot holes and sub par story just to push an agenda. Games have had similar themes, similar characters, and were overall better because that wasn't the focal point. The white knight who gave the green light on this shouldn't be in this business. Make a game without catering. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. -I am at a loss with this game. From the written butchering of everything I loved about these characters, to the actual butchering of the characters I loved, to the complete loss of direction story-wise after the first hour of gameplay. What happened in the nearly decade long development of this game? Were all the original writers fired? Or were they overwritten by one man who thought he knew best, leading to a final season Game of Thrones situation that completely erased everything good that came before it.

-Visually and audibly stunning, but devoid of anything resembling a redeeming quality beyond that. It is not only baffling but cruel to force the player to interact with what was a vibrant world through Abby, a character who's backstory and motivations feel hastily put together 10 minutes before the game was supposed to be presented as complete, after watching her brutally murder the arguably most complex character of the series, who was the main draw for players of the first game.

-As for the LGBT themes that everyone seems hung up on. As any actual member of the community will tell you, if it's being forced this hard, you're probably faking it for the clout. Anyone with minimal skills of observation could tell that Ellie was likely lesbian from interactions and conversations in the first game, especially after the heavy obviousness that came in the DLC. So to overplay it and make it a constantly recurring theme and focus seems obtuse and forced. A person's sexuality is organic and who they are, not an add on that exists as a parallel to them.

-Conversations felt unsettlingly robotic at times, there was no driving force to connect with any new characters, who presented themselves more as paper cutout stand ins rather than new opportunities for connection and emotional exploration.

-Mechanically it was polished if unimaginative, drawing on expanding the capabilities of the platform on hardware level, and it shows how much focus that drew due to the complete and utter lack of any human connection anywhere in the game.

-TL;DR This sequel is the runny disappointing sh*t after the best thanksgiving dinner of a first game you've ever had. Even the most highly polished turd is still a pile of sh*t. Flush and forget.

Este juego tiene como base de jugabilidad la historia y, al tratar de encasquetar una historia digna de una novela escrita a un videojuego, cometieron un grave error al no tomar en cuenta la inmersión narrativa (que es tres veces más cercana en un videojuego). The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
