It’s a shame that the events of second part are triggered due to the dead of an insignificant and random NPC from the first game and then we gotta play part of the game with a completely irrelevant and uninterested character just to fulfill an agenda. Politics have nothing to do with video games, we want good stories to escape reality not to be reminded of it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Atrocious storyline. They made Joel a glorified plot device.everything you saw Joel go through in the Last of Us was completely thrown away. They forced him to become oblivious to the world he lives in just to have a shock factor kill early into the game. Please explain to me in what world is Joel and Tommy going to walk Into and ambush like a bunch of fools? In Last of us 1 Joel clearly spots and ambush! After Abby kills Joel, How in the world does she allow HIS BROTHER and a Girl who clearly loved him to live? Did you not think that they weren't going to seek revenge like you spent all this time seeking revenge? Lastly at the end, this whole game felt useless after Ellie decides to let Abby live.... What was the whole point of this game? Tis was a cash grab, the game should of have been sequeled if this was the treatment they were gonna give it smh Expand

That being said, this game is a total waste of time for the player. The story is an -okay- concept that is delivered extremely poorly and heavy handedly. A complete assassination of the characters of the original game that ends in a mean spirited and unsatisfying way. If you enjoyed the first game for the relationship between ellie and joel, pass this one up as it has nothing to do with that. It manages to make you hate everyone in it and leaves you feeling empty after finishing it. Definitely overstays its welcome for about 15 hours too. Graphics are obviously great and gameplay is basically the same just flashier with a few new toys. Pass this one up guys, dont let the hype get to you. Not even going to go into how there are literally character skin swaps and false lines recorded just to be in the trailers to mislead the consumer about what this game is about. Funny how a little moment some people didn't even think about ended up becoming important to the story. Neil Druckmann simply took and ripped out heart from the fans. They did not care about everything, the main thing is to work out the agenda of minorities. He forever destroyed the story ... even the first part will now be apprehensively remembered. He has no forgiveness.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The technical traits of the game like the graphics and the gameplay are great. The flashback of Joel singing to Ellie and the surprise he had for her birthday were beautiful moments too.

    But the storyline...

What were they thinking??? Honestly I think many people will agree with me that this whole game was a huge slap in the face from ND. The fact that the characters didn't have character development at all and they just forgot what was really important about the story. The "revenge is bad" theme could've been taught in many other ways better than this failure. We didn't see what happened to Ellie's parents, her immunity to the virus seems insignificant at this point, we couldn't see more of Joel's past in order to understand his character even more and we didn't get to see enough of Ellie's and Joel's relationship. This game had so much potential and the final product was just an excuse of a game with a more than obvious forced agenda that they forgot what really mattered. And if they tried to make me feel emphatic towards Abby they didn't succeed at all, not after how terribly this character was written. And it's no fun that I had to play as her either when I never developed a connection with her in the first place. And the fact that they used Joel to make false advertisement of the game by tricking us into believing that he was alive. Just wow. And not to mention the way he died. That was SO disrespectful to Joel's character and the fans. A character that beloved deserved better. I'm okay with that fact that he died, but the WAY he died, I'm just extremely sad and disappointed. For someone who doesn't have a real father myself and the fact that their father and daughter relationship was something I really treasured and loved and they just destroyed that by having loved characters acting out of character and seeing Ellie acting all rude towards Joel and they couldn't even have a chance to work things out between them it just leaves me heartbroken. They were the essence of the game and now that has vanished for me and I'm sure many feel the same way. I was really hoping this was going to be a beautifully crafted story but I guess the wallet was more important than actual storytelling. Maybe this will teach them that caring for their fans, story and characters is better rather than pushing a message that just comes out as forced and negative.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If any of the positive reviewers have ever played the first game with any shred of attention or passion for it then i really don't understand where they are comming from calling it great and inronically calling the story a supposed "masterpiece" ...

Whereas the first game is unforgettable due to the tone it set, combining bitter reality with a theme of hope, and well established characters that we all grew to know and love, the second game almost spits on all that was built up, and presents us a world that doesn't correspond with the theme astablished, and characters who are anything but a continuation of what they were and are. Joel was going to be killed eventually yes due to what he did at the end of the first game, but the way they did it in the second is just purely **** writing. When it happens, nobody knows who the **** Abby is, and after that we are expected to play as her to only then after 10 hours understand who she was and why (taking the fact that she is a super bland character with no real draw or motives out of the picture for a second). A proper execution would have been for us to first understand who she is, and where she is comming from and then have it lead up to the climax of confronting Joel. Combine that with the fact that Joel is established in the first game as a very mistrusting person, always seeing through traps, people's intentions and even not trustinnlg Ellie with a switchblade (out of fear she might hurt herself that is). Having him walk into a base with strangers, giving up their names with their guard fully down is the last thing he would ever do. The writer took him out of character for an opportunity to kill him off quick for shock value, and to even be able to insert his cgi self spitting on his corpse, this whole seen and that move can therefore be seen as a spit in the face of the fans by Druckman himself.

Its also just plainly bad writing to make it seem like Joel saving her life didn't matter **** to her ... if the writers had actually bothered to put some depth into it they could have made it into a longer played out internal conflict that would have made for an actual good story.

Now the story is just about 24 hours of constant revenge while simultaneously having a political agenda shoved down your throat. It doesn't belong in the world that was so cleverly thought out and brought to life in the first game. The zombies are so absent from the story now that they could just as well have been removed, so now the suspense they created in the first game is reduced to them feeling like some annoying npc part of a puzzle to get to the next cutscene

Its just a whole game long where the player has to carry out one person's revenge fantasy after the other ... there is no depth to it, just a rinse and repeat viewed from different perspective played by characters that feel like husks compared to the complexity they had in the first game... Also there is no exiting goal anymore ... no outcome to work towards, just revenge upon revenge upon revenge plot

Also the tone is nothing like what we got in the first game. The first game was already set in dark bitter reality so i don't buy the whole "but its more like reality now" argument, but the thing that kept you playing and made the game so good was the underlying tone of hope that carried the characters through, gave the story its gripping aspect and made everything feel like it mattered. At the end of the second game there is nothing you have really accomplished. No goal was reached that meant anything, we are left with some dead people, the villain walking away and being better off than the protagonist and no sense of satisfaction whatsoever. Its just 24 hours of "i kill u cuz i mad that u killed this person"

So no, the story was just a prime case of lazy, bad writing anf showed no respect for artistical integrity. Joels death was done poorly and in total disregard for who we got to know in the first game, and so was the rest of the story. Badly written, shallow, it really added nothing of value to the timeline and on top of that tried to be way to political for the environment it takes place in. At the end of this game, there is no sense of accomplishment or satisfaction, we are left with an empty feeling, wishing we'd have never walked into this game and had just let the story end where the first game did. hence the story in all its aspects really just is a bunch of horse****, and a slap in the face for fans of the first game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game looks good visually but the game failed to deliver because of storytelling. This game would have been a lot better if the cutscenes were organized in a way that made sense. There is no reason to introduce Abby's backstory late into the game if Joel ends up dying 2 hours into the games plot.I believe alot of people were angry at the writers for killing Joel too early and if they added his death scene near the end of the game and skipped that entire sequence entirely the games poorly written script couldve been covered up slightly. Game wouldve made more sense if they took the route Heavy Rain took with their antagonist and revealed her intentions as the game went on instead of putting it 2 hours into the game and spitting in our faces for it . Dialogue between the new characters felt unnatural and awkward giving a high school drama vibe to it. The pacing of the game didnt make any sense. All new characters were uninteresting especially Dina and Abby. The relationship between Ellie and Abby didnt add anything to the story and it was a massive downgrade from the Joel and Ellie relationship in the first game. The game looked great but the game felt empty at times. The notes were mostly useless information if it didnt have safe combinations. The hero card collectibles were whatever. The design team was let down by the writing team for sure. This game has a lot of wasted potential. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us Part 2 is one of the biggest gaming disappointments in a long time. First off nobody is mad Ellie is gay people didn't care in the Left Behind DLC. But people do care when you insert an agenda at the expense of the characters and the story. The last of us Part 2 is mainly about story. The majority of players bought the last of us part 2 in order to see what happened after the first last of us and to see what happened to Joel and Ellie. But what ends up happening is that we get to play as a character we don't like for the majority of the game. Joel is killed of in such a disrespectful way where it destroys the story afterwards. We all knew Joel would die at some point because it only makes logical sense but to have him die in such a way is disrespectful to the character. Besides that we have a boring revenge plot where it ultimately leads to nothing and we are left unsatisfied and confused at the ending. Besides that the graphics are stunning on the Ps4 but that's about it. Every thing else feels the same it works but isn't satisfactory. Overall this was a huge disappointment and if you are only in it for the gameplay and graphics you will love the game but if you are in it for a good story then you will be very disappointed. Expand

Improve the technical aspects of the game to compete with modern standards. The Last of Us 2 does neither of these things. As you have likely read, the plot eliminates the heart and soul of its source material in the first 2 hours of the game. They replace this character with lifeless, sterile stand-ins who do nothing but fill time so the player can claim they technically saw a story take place. As far as the technical aspects, the game is scarcely an improvement to the original. The graphics are updated and the combat has some new features and items, but it plays more like an expansion with mods than a standalone game. The writing in this game represents a disturbing trend in modern gaming. Similar to Final Fantasy 7 Remake, we are seeing more and more studios abandon the source material in almost overt attempts to subvert audience expectations for its own sake. It is the writing equivalent of clickbait. Innovation is welcome, but subversion for its own sake is childish and demonstrates only contempt for source materials rather than passion. The dev team can be quoted as saying they intentionally made story and art decisions they believed would be the opposite of what players would want. Ask yourself, do you want to play a game that developers designed to be frustrating and unsatisfying?

Think of what you could do with $60. You could buy groceries, buy your significant other a nice gift, spend it on yourself for a day off, put it in savings, or invest it. Naughty Dog's answer to "why do we deserve your money?" is: because we will make your main character gay, make the antagonist a muscular woman, and add trans-people. Bravo, Druckmann. This is not activism. This is pandering. Learn the difference, Naughty Dog.

The only redeeming aspect of this game is the effort put into it by the programmers. 2/10

What I liked: The visuals on this game are amazing, while good for myself the animations are out of sync.
I did not like the gameplay controls, but a future patch could address the bugs.

So far have only made it to around 8 hours of gameplay, before listing it on facebook to sell, as I could not get a refund. Too early to comment on the story, so far it wasn't bad, just meh.

It seems as though the team at naughty dog have taken it upon themselves to look at everything positive from the first one and flip it on its head. The Story choices just seem bizarre and nonsensical, having a certain beloved character be beaten to death by the most macho woman I’ve ever seen and then have to play as said character just made me want to quit right there, playing as Abby was horrendous after killing Joel I Had no sympathy for the character no emotional connection, I just can’t get my head round why the people at naughty dog thought this would be a good idea. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My advice to anyone planning to get this game.

    1. If you've played the 1st game and you love it. Keep those memories. Don't buy the part 2. I suggest you rent or buy 2nd hand from someone online. Take your time playing the game and accept the fact that gameplay is important than storyline, if that works for you. Or just bare with it. Or better yet, skip it. Yes, like this is an actual warning, If you're kind of attached to the previous characters. You won't like what naughty dog did to them now. It's has little to no moral value in this release compares to its predecessor. I enjoy the game but the story ruins it.

    2. If you never played the 1st game or don't really care about the story line, by all means please do get it. It's a very good game. Now Ellie can jump (That jumping animation tho,I giggled a bit). The graphics, what can I say.. Triple A game has the best graphic. What else to add?.. The map, yes. Its big. (Skyrim got big map). The graphic. I've mentioned that. It's good. Yes. Its good game. Gameplay is sometimes is important than the storyline.

Note - This game is not for everyone. It is not because of the adult theme or gory and brutal content/game play. Some might say or relate it with the Star Wars franchise...The story line. It's bad, really, really bad and it doesn't add up.
Not going to spoiled it. But if you're interested and don't mind with spoilers you can find reviews, react or walkthrough online.

I avoided the spoilers because I thought it was fake I believe Naughty dog will never do that. Oh boi, how wrong I was to believe that. I never knew a video game would breaks my heart. The story is no way close to believable or realistic. You can't chew nor swallow it. You'd have to cut up your stomach and shove it right in to actually digest it. Oh don't get me started with the aftertaste. (Not going to bash it too much because I still like that TLOU2, even just a little).
7 years of waiting wasted and I regret buying it. What happen to Neil Druckmann? I tried to enjoy the game but, I'm a fan of the 1st game. This ruins it, big time. I thought a good game was suppose to be fun, has moral values and leave good memories. TLOU2 strays away from the 1st game. It's bad. How many times should I say that this is a bad game?.. It's bad. Really really bad. The story that is. Bad. Bad dog...bad Naughty Dog company.. Bad dog.. Disappointment. That is all I can say.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Now, remember Last of Us Part I? How the game, in as few strokes as necessary, establishes deep emotional connection between Joel and Sarah, while luring us to think that she's POV, the main hero of this story. And then takes her life away in a heart-breaking scene, establishing an overarching narrative that "No matter what, you keep finding something to fight for"? And all these in 15 minutes.

Now, let's dissect what Last of Us Part II has to offer in the first one hour of "gameplay". The first scene is actually good: Joel recalls the events of Part I, telling the story to Tommy. Too bad this is the last good scene in a whole hour - that alone already says something about the story. Then we ride through a gorgeous environment for as long as 5 minutes for absolutely no reason other than show off what the game engine is capable of. Then we have an incredibly awkward scene of Joel trying to talk to Ellie. They spent at least a year together, why would they act so awkward while talking to each other, for **** sake? Did they lose trust in each other? If so, why? The game doesn't care to explain itself. Then we got a yet another awkward scene with Dina and Jesse: two new characters introduced so abruptly that it's hard to find any interest at them whatsoever. And yeah, Ellie refuses to take sandwiches as an apology from another guy, because he's "bigot". Top-tier woke writing here, ladies and gentlemen. That we got few establishing scenes for Abby - new protagonist, but once again, the game just doesn't give her enough time to become more or less valuable, something else other than "plot-device driven by whatever stupid narrative writers have". Next. we have absolutely ****ing cherry-on-top scene with Ellie that kinda forgotten that she cares about Joel, that he means a lot to her, because, guess what! She has a lesbian girlfriend now! So, they smoke ****ing pot, kiss, and almost **** each other, while knowing that Joel and Tommy are ****ING MISSING and they're on a ****ING MISSION TO SAVE THEM. Come on, game, what the actual **** In the meantime, Joel and Tommy save Abby - someone who they've met for the first time in their life, ride to her hideout, casually give away their identity while knowing that it might be dangerous. Ellie tries to save Joel from a **** that the writers put him into, but it's too late, cause Ellie was too ****ing busy smoking pot and scissoring her new lesbian girlfriend. We already know how this one ends.

So, what did we got from just one hour of Part II gameplay? The pacing is **** the dialogues are **** (I swear to god, words like "Okay", "Yeah", "Right" were repeated at least a few hundred times between Joel, Ellie, Dina, and Jesse). Character development is nonexistent. I have no ****ing clue what kind of crack writers were smoking while writing this mess, but it's not acceptable. But well, who am I to judge?

True 10/10 material, best game of the generation. If you don't agree, you're bigot, manchild, incel, and hater. Deal with it.

For 2013 the gameplay was fantastic but I felt it was at best routine and at worst felt bored. I still like the crafting mechanics but felt it could have been improved seeing as a similar AAA title 'Days Gone' had done this element better in their game last year. I discovered that I had a lot of glitches in my playtrue. I ran into instances when fighting enemies where I fell through walls into nothingness repeatedly. Other times, my character became stuck on invisible ladders while climbing walls. If it happened once or twice, I would let it slide but it felt like the game was made with a first day patch in mind. From a graphics standpoint, I expected much more. The graphics are improved since the last game circa 2013, which is expected, yet are not as groundbreaking as I have heard from friends. They are quite similar if not slightly worse than the graphics from 'RDR2' and 'GOW' which came out more than two years ago. That being said, the graphics were one of the things I enjoyed about the game. The story was difficult to get through. I was able to understand characters motivations but felt that the execution was lacking. I enjoyed Ellies relationship with Dina but could not connect with any of the other new characters in the same way. I felt that Jesse's character in particular could have been fleshed out more given the games running time, which ran longer than the first. It made me hard to sympathise with these new characters when the revenge plot kicks in. I think the game lacks the ambiguity of its predecessor. The first game made characters organically feel grey. Joel, Marlene, Bill and Ellie all had their own intentions that you could understand even if you disagreed with it. Most of the characters in the first seemed to show human emotion towards their actions, both the good and the bad yet the sequel strays from this. Even the worst characters in the first showed a glimpse of humanity in their actions yet the sequel takes all of the humanity out of the characters. Overall, in a story driven game if you find yourself at times bored and at others wishing to play other excellent story driven games such as 'Life is Strange' or 'Telltales TWD' then you know the story has issues. All the rest looked like they were afraid to say what they actually thought about the terrible writing, baseless lies that were blatantly told to the public from Druckmann using a beloved character, and using big words pulled out of the thesaurus to not really give an opinion. So let me take my "passionate" feelings as Niel snarked about fans upset about the backlash with the game flooding this site with poor reviews and say my own. I am only giving this game a 2 and not a 0 because of the people who did actually work hard on the game and deserve to be given credit where credit is due. Everything else doesn't really deserve the praise its getting, this is 2020, we are about to go into next gen with the PS5 and XBOX X soon so boasting about "Amazing Graphics!", or "Really Fluid Gameplay!" and "Amazing Battle Mechanics!" mean literally almost nothing at this point in games, those things are expected and done just as good if not better by so many companies nowadays. What we as gamers pay 60-100 dollars for is an amazing story or an experience that we can walk away from when we are done thinking we got our moneys worth...yeah that didn't happen, not even close, I've paid 20 bucks or less for games I enjoyed more than The Last Of Us Part II, this entire franchise is bread and buttered by its narrative, but almost the entire time I was playing it all it did was make me pissed off, not want to play it anymore, or swear I am never buying another game from Naughty Dog ever again. The fact that I felt even one of those things is just beyond sad truthfully, especially following the first game and how amazing it was. If the people making this game cared even for a second about the world they had created, the journey you go on to become a family, make these connections and not about making money and trying to be edgy by putting in a "tasteful" scene which was anything but that and really just made Sony look like a hypocrite, we would have seen another out of the park home run game, but now after playing this I'm just checking twitter every few days to see people change there "story" about how this game really is or see that Niel was forced to take responsibility and let go; for his PR BS-a-thon he went on about so many lies we got told, most of which have been proven like the remapped characters that were teased to have larger rolls :/ Expand

The graphics are superb and the gun/fighting is fun and the exploration is refined.

    ...thats all.

    Now for the bad:

The story has no weight in it, in the first u had the all humanities future in ur hands and in this one u have NOTHING u get the feeling of wanting revenge, thats for sure but 2 hours in u loose it.

The AI of ur partners are soooooo god damn stupid, most of the time i was trying to sneak kill some guys and Dina or Jesse would just block my way, since u cant push them or ghost them (pass through them as air) it often ended in my death.

Sometimes you play as Abby which is the main villain, the thing is that she is so bad of a person that u FEEL BAD for playing her, she does very very bad things.

There is alot more **** to complain but i have to go play lifeline on ps2.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's start with scholarly reviewed and scientifically proved results, shall we? To show that we, the gamers, did not give low scores because we are homophobic or close-minded.
So, video game researchers have found out about the special bonds between the player and the avatar, when we are experiencing a video game experience, we, are our characters. We emotionally immersed in the game and become that character. When we play AC2, we are Ezio Auditore, when we play Uncharted, we are Nate Drake, when we play CoD4, we are Soap. That's why when Ezio Auditore trys to sneak into the enemy stronghold and got spotted, then forced to go berserk, you as the player will say: "y'all forced me, I didn't wanna kill you all!"
Thus, when we play The Last of Us, we are the family man who was forced into the smuggler, we are the father figure who lost his treasure, we are the mercenary who unprofessionally developed a father-and-daughter relationship his the "shipment"; We Are Joel.
We love Ellie, of course, who doesn't love their daughter. Who doesn't love the little girl who put the hope of the whole damn world on her shoulders when she was still that young. But we love Joel more, because that is us. We don't say it though, because we are "Michael" from "Long live play", that's what we do. We don't brag about our achievements, we've saved the world for more than 50 times already, different worlds. That is the biggest mistake of ND for this game. What charms us about TLoU, is not Ellie, is not the adventure, is the relationship between Joel (us) and Ellie. You remove one, you remove us.
So ND did not kill Joel, the male main character of TLoU. He killed us. In a way that, let me quote Deadpool on this one, "That's just LAZY writing." People don't let their guard down in a post-apocalyptic world, especially the type of people who Joel is, a survivor. If you tell me that age has got on Joel that he is not as fast, as strong, as persice, or even as smart, I will be OK with it. But you tell me Joel is not as vigilant and walked into a trap? That's just LAZY.
But I'm OK with killing off Joel. The franchise has to move forward, and as a media scholar, I respect that. But ND clearly missed out on the second charm of the first TLoU: Joel's final decision.
The first game is created around the battle between the sense and the sensibility. It started from the part where the G.I. was ordered to shoot Joel and his daughter, to the argument between Joel and his partner, to the relationship development between Joel and Ellie, ended with Joel's final decision: screw the world, family first.
Sensibility and emotion, has been the decision-making guideline throughout the whole game. This was also the decision-making guideline throughout the second game as well, until Ellie's last decision: letting Abby walk. That is why the decision feels so, weird. I am not saying let Abby walk is wrong, but the writing did not provide strong enough support for the players to make the same decision with the provided guideline of Sensibility and Emotion.
Keep in mind, the theme of the game is not revenging Joel, it's revenge for OURSELVES. Joel did not kill Abby's father, we killed him, because he was trying to kill our freaking daughter, whatever the reason maybe! Was it wrong? Of course. Is Abby justified to kill us? Sure! So is it justified that we kill Abby to revenge OURSELVES? You better say yes! So in the end, ND was not asking us to let Joel's murderer walk, they were asking us to let OUR OWN murderer walk. If you have good reasons and give the players the chance to sync with Abby and let the players become Abby, it's might actually work. Yet, the writing was so poor and the theme of the game was so solidly set that I don't even want to play as Abby at all. Hell, I don't even want to watch the walkthrough for that part. The writing of this game is too weak. The whole game is following your sensibility and emotion, and in the end, ND broke the consistency and make a decision that is 100% the opposite of it. No wonder it feels so wrong.
So this game tells me two things. 1st, there are a lot of dumb people working in high places in big corporations. 2nd, video game makers, please consult academic researchers to make sure that you know what your targeted audiences think. Because right now, ND is clearly pissing off their main targeted audience: video game players.
2 points, one for the hard work of making the game, one for the graphics.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I never used metacritic, this account is created for this game, to let naughty dog know my anger. I need to announce at first that this 3 only gives to all developers who create this wonderful world and offer the impressive gameplay. Sorry I can't give them higher as it will raise the average, which I don't expect at all.

The reason of this low score is clear, the story. I can accept Joel's death even that really broken my heart to pieces. There are many other things to complain. For Owen and Mel, it was them try to kill you first, and they nearly did it. Why did Ellie feel something like regret first but not rejoice you still alive? Then Abby came all the way to Ellie's shelter. When I expected a real fight before I cut that gorilla into pieces, the story turned to the side of ABBY?? Do you know how I feel when I have to control someone I want to kill and forced to keep she alive? And it kept for hours! Nearly a half of the game! I come for Ellie and Joel, not Abby!

I skipped all CG of this Abby and finally finished all her story, the you just told me to hunt Ellie by Abby!??? What's wrong with you! How dare you! I played that far to see Abby's death and now you want me to kill Ellie? My anger raised up for every punch from Abby!

And the last part, I finally reached her and all I need is a bullet through Abby's head, but why Ellie put her down and let her go? She nearly drown Abby, but she released her after Joel flashed through her mind. What? Why? Why this? Why let her go? WHAT IS THIS GAME WASTED MY 3 DAYS!??

I know I really need to calm down, but I just can't. I guess it's exactly what you want me to feel after I played your MASTERPIECE. Now take my revenge, naughty DOG.

You could have redeemed this character... but you've only stereotyped a large swath of the LBGTQ+ community. How a major character is thrown away just to appease a certain way of thinking in 2020 is awful. May sound melodramatic, but in a few seconds it seems they’ve completely killed the franchise.

It’s a woeful game, using the wonderful characters of the first game to virtue signal, and then allows you the honour of controlling the awful character which destroys it all. What a misguided mess.

The plot of the game is terrible, boring and dull. 1 point can be put for giving the whole game to kill women and 1 point for the beginning where they show Joel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is beutiful, no other way to say it. Seattle looks amazing truly gives you the feeling of being in a city that is almost fully reclaimed by nature.

Gameplay hasent changed much from the last game which i find pretty sad. After 7 years I was hoping for some improvements especially to those clunky aiming mechanics. They also had almost no enviornmental puzzles like in the first game which dident help much with giving the gameplay loop some variety. You pretty much just sneak around while stealth killing people for most of the game which does get pretty boring after a while.

The story was the most disappointing part of the game. I never played the last of us for it's gameplay for me it was always about the story. The first game is probably the most satisfying story in any game that I have played so far so I had high hopes for this one but sadly it did not deliver at all. The pacing feels at times really wonky and parts of the story just appear really forced. Joel's death felt very hollow, instead of a stark emotional moment it felt draining and did not really make me want to play more of this game. I was sure from the beginning that at some point joel would lose his live somehow but I did not expect this to happen in the first 2 hours of the game. The last of us 1 was so amazing because of the interactions and chemistry between Joel and Ellie. The little conversations they had while you traversed the world made it feel so much more alive while in this you mostly walk around alone talking to yourself from time to time but that is about it.

The second half of the game just feels like a giant poorly written sidequest where you get to play as Abby the person who murdered Joel. Naughty Dog tries to humanize the people you are hunting down with a 10 hour side adventure. I feel like this part could have been much shorter and in the end was a bit unnecessary. From the beginning I was sure that Abby's group where also just normal people like everyone else that had a good reason for hunting Joel but some of their characters are just written so shallow that you still dont care about most of them in the end.

The end of this game just feels like a cop out and I still wish they would give you the option to just drown Abby. They try to throw a final gut punch by showing a flashback of Joel where Ellie decides to try and repair their relationship shortly before he died. This could have been shown at the beginning of the game to give some depth to Ellies quest for vengeance since they make it appear for most of the game that they had been estranged at the point where he was killed. This feels like a sad attempt to get an undeserved emotional response from the player since the ending is anything other then satisfying.

All in all this game has been a big disappointment, it lost most of the charm that made the first last of us such a unique and wonderful experience. You will barely interact with Joel except for a few flashbacks even tough the trailers make it appear as if he has a bigger part in the story which I found such a waste of a great character.

Abby is so masculine that people thought she was transsexual but i guess in an apocalypse where food is scarce Abby can just be hulk and her character is even worse, naughty dog tries first to make Abby look good and then they make us absolutely hate her and then she becomes the "good guy" and the game tries to make Ellie and Joel look like the villain which is really stupid. TLDR The graphics are not insane but they don't hurt to look at. the game play is boring because you don't really have a reason to play since the story is an absolute dumpster fire and the ending doesn't leave you asking for more but instead it feels like a terrible fan fiction. Don't buy this game the "professional" reviews are fake this game is not even close to being a masterpiece. just.. a disappointment. Expand

As bad as this game is the more worrying aspect is the mental stability or lack thereof of Neil Druckman, after forcing out legendary Writer/creative powerhouse Amy Hennig Neil seemed to take it upon himself to destroy The Last Of Us 2 by inserting politics and most alarmingly himself into the game
He turned female characters into disgusting androgynous abominations, motion capped himself having sex with above mentioned androgynous abominations, featured himself on in game collectibles where he implied he was some kind of super genius, Brutally killed off a beloved main character for the crime of being a man and riddled the games diary entries and collectibles with gender politics and inter sectional ideology

Inter sectional ideology is built upon a nebulous foundation of unfalsifiable hypothesis which directly contradict both observable reality and honest scientific research and most importantly has no place in a game about Mushroom zombies

If you want a good laugh and have some spare time go and have a look at every video game "journalist" who gave this game a perfect score and you will start to see many similarities

    *Twitter verified
    *Hyper leftist views
    *Pronouns in their bio
*A past history of attacking gamers (their target demographic I might ad)
    *LGBTQ supporters
    *Black Lives Matter apologists
One Journalist in particular was so ass mad about the backlash to her clearly bought and paid for 10 out of 10 review that she went on a tirade about Anime profile pictures and made fun of virgins for an hour and in typical twitter verified leftist fashion she quickly apologized refered to people as "folks" to avoid offending transsexuals and back pedaled
Never ever trust these disgusting parasites and anyone who willingly buys this game and unironically enjoys this should be put on a watch list
The Last Of Us 2 is the proof that THEY have now successfully infiltrated every piece of the entertainment industry and we let THEM do it
    Movies -gone
    Comics - gone
    Games - gone
We need to start talking with our wallets and kill this kind of disgusting subversion dead in it's tracks and we need to let Neil know that he is no longer welcome in this industry and must be removed

It’s not like the first game had a big cast at the end but we grew with these characters, we know how they behave and work internally. This game didn’t use them to their full potential and decided to follow their new character concepts based on a new formula different from the original. If it ain’t broke improve it don’t change it. I hate all this sjw agenda in media but I don’t care for in this game actually you could change all of it and the game is still bad that’s not the route cause of why the game feels so bad. I don’t know what happened, they had a real powerful woman in the first game that people loved and where used masterfully to shed a tear and move the story forward not here. Honestly I didn’t want to see more of the cutscenes for most the game but I still threaded on, but man the ending... The ending is perfect for this garbage and sorry excuse for a sequel.

Graphics and ambience is top notch so if you want to suffer while watching pretty things then be my guest.

Overall they should of just made a prequel, now what kind of f up things Joel and tommy did to survive as it was implied in the first game. Give us a closer look on Tommy and the fireflies war against the army. Joels story how he turned the way he is. Honestly I liked Ellie but this game didn’t make her as fun to play and they got rid of her snarky witty attitude her most differentiated feature. Honestly bye don’t buy the game, give them a good reason to stop this and make good games.

2 points for the two original protagonists from the previous instalment. Gameplay was good but the peace was slow, and the characters’ actions (particularly towards the ending) were not justifiable by the development of the whole storyline. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. We finished the game in 2 days. My beginning thoughts: If we’re going to have a new storyline, market it right. Don’t blind us into a game where you marketed it as Ellie & Joel then introduce a whole new city of characters, characters we didn’t even want to play. Maybe this type of storyline would work in the 3rd installment, for you don’t even get to play as Joel, and you play as Abby more than Ellie. Why would we want to play as the enemy? Why would we want to play as the enemy when fighting Ellie? Why would we go all this way to fight Abby to have her be let go? This is why The Last of Us gets a low rating: - I don’t appreciate how Joel died so early in the game as well. We could have at least played as him for halfway, or we could have known about his death and let up to it later in the game, not the 2nd scene already. - The cutscenes were barely there and all over the place. You play for so long for one cutscene. Then at the end there’s cutscene after cutscene.
    - why does Abby get a workbench every 5 seconds, gets all this good guns & crafting gear, then when you play as Ellie you get a workbench once a day. We barley tried when playing Abby and she got all these good gear & looting as the story progressed. The whole time playing the game we just thought it was pretty stupid. It was hard to play when we didn’t want to play it, but we had to see what happens next. While I do appreciate the scenery and backgrounds in this game, I just think Naughty Dog knew this was a money maker and wanted to **** it up regardless knowing they would make money anyway. Also, did anyone notice how many Asians were killed in this game or was it just me?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think this game has major ups and downs. The visuals and sound design are great, the landscapes and combat are fun and intense.

    however;

the story leaves a lot to be desired, and as this is a game that should be focused primarily on storytelling and character development, i cant give this game higher than a 2/10. The ending feels very unsatisfactory, as you're progressing through half the game as ellie trying to defeat abby, a goal which seems nearly impossible to start your journey with. When you finally reach a point where that goal is in sight, Ellie just leaves it behind. Her torture throughout this game has no payoff to it. she loses very close friends, only for it to mean nothing in the grand scheme of the plot. And dont even get me started on playing as Abby. I couldnt stand it. Her motivations are unjust when you look at the reasoning behind her fathers death, and you have to play as her after she beats Joel to death in front of our protagonist, then get there yourself. This games story is undesirable at best, and i dont think the franchise can be redeemed past this game. I hope anyone reading this enjoyed it, but I couldnt.

I can't score this game below a 2 because it is absolutely beautiful and the game play itself is fun and at times rewarding. With that said the game (in my opinion) faults hard on its story and treatment of characters I've fallen in love with in the first game.
