    2020 is getting worse by the day . I love the visuals, but the writing is horrible. Do not get fooled by the positive reviews.

    A terrible sequel with a story that almost feels like a slap-in-the-face to any developed intelligent life form. If you liked the first game, please stay clear of the follow up.

    Terrible story.
    The decisions being made in this game are absolutely ridiculous and horrendous.
    Almost no change whatsoever in gameplay, besides being able to jump and climb. Characters are bland and uninteresting, and the encounters with the infected are much less often now with an obscene design to one of the new infected enemies.     The agenda does not really matters to me but the fact that Druckmann decided to shove a lot of things that aren't necessary down out throats made me sick.
    Fans of the series waited 7 years for this sequel and this is what they got.
    It's like they took everything that people loved in the first game and decided to switch it 180 degrees from what it was.

    A positive thing I have to say is that the game is totally gorgeous, graphics wise. It really brings the limit of the PS4 and this generation.    … Expand

I played the 1st game on PS3 for about 10 times and played the remastered version 5 times again and that's simply because it was a masterpiece that took others and me on an emotional journey that didn't need any politics or religions or agendas to shove on our faces. The 2nd didn't need to do that, too. Guess what? They did it anyway and threw all the dedicated fans who loved the characters no matter what their sexuality were. I loved the 1st game and loved the DLC (Left Behind). Story was part of the success as it was grey (not black or white) and people can relate to the decisions made during the game, but now we were supposed to see the death of the 1st game's protagonist early in the game and should go - as advertised - on a journey of revenge while playing almost half of the game as the one who killed him! I'm still shocked from the cheap shock value. Even I, a novice writer, could come with better story line and plot to justify his death and the way it was done. I could've come to peace with her if we played her through the game only to have her revenge at the end, but no. They wanted us to force ourselves to keep playing because we already paid 60 dollars for this **** story full of agendas instead of having a decent game. Joel who didn't stop for a guy who looked desperate in the 1st game, trusted a group of strangers with his name and got killed for it and we're supposed to believe that? Abby which I hated from the beginning and tries to kill as many times as possible because I knew they were trying to make us feel bad for her and they even forced a sex scene no asked for which made me hate her and the game more in what we can describe as the gayest straight sex ever done. There no justification for what ND did to the fans, not to mentions the delays the game got so they can manipulate us more with false advertisements and trailers which convinced me that Joel would be a big part in the game, only to find that he appears in flashback with his old look and as the trailers showed us and now I hear that stores refuse to accept returning the game. The trailers convinced us that Dina died and Ellie had to avenge her and then Joel follows her to help. They didn't even show din behind Ellie on the horse on the first day of Seattle. Shame on ND and shame above all on Sony who let them do this. I lost my respect to the studio I admired and considered the best in the last 2 generations of consoles. I gave the 2 just for the technique aspects. Amazing world and graphics, cinematography, music, and voice acting. **** story full of holes, bad insert of left politics and agendas and disrespecting a loved character because he's a man.     Absolute waste of money. I stopped playing and I'm not going to bother finishing it either. This game is the equivalent to Game of Thrones Season 8 epic failure! I just don't understand why everything about the first game was destroyed in this sequel. Everything I loved about the 1st installment, gone, just like that! Naughty Dog and Sony blew it and they were warned! The fans spoke after the leaks and told them what they didn't like. Naught Dog, Sony, and personally Neil Druckman himself, verbally attacked and criticized fans of being racists and misogynists, and assured fans the game would be loved by everyone. This game is an absolute blunder and will probably go down as the WORST sequel in video game history! Did Sony really think fans wouldn't notice the fake paid for "Critic Reviews"? Who are they trying to fool?

Up to this point, id never think that killing the protagonist of a prequel right off in the beginning would be that badly received, assuming there have been a number of games with similar formula, which were successful. But when the storywriters are doing this just go bring up a vendetta story, presented in a very dull and filled with plotholes way, this bad reception comes as no surprise to almost everyone.

    There are probably a million paths the storywriters could have gone here, so that it would please everyone, even by repeating the story of the first game, and it would have been far more worth time investing in playing this game, than now.

    While the graphics are 9/10, everything else is absolute bonkers.

    enemy variety 2/10 - barely added new enemies since game 1- they could have added more types of zombies with different abilities/approach to kill them

    main characters 1/10 - post apolyptic scene with characters whose sole purpose is to hunt each-other down? First game the protagonists were survivors, which had their flaws, but you as player easily sympathized with them. This sequel here feels like cat and mouse game, where the surviving part is almost non existent.

    storyline 1/10 - whoever wrote this, should not be hired by ANY game dev company.


    It saddens me to write all this, as the first game was one of the most touching and mastetfully made I've had the pleasure to play.
    But game is a true franchise destroyer - doubtful there will ever be TLOU 3.    … Expand

    This game deserve all the sh*tstorm it received, and if not enough, the blatant lies of Neil Druckmann about it should say it all.
    He lied because he KNEW that if truth were told about this game, people wouldn't have bought it in this huge amount.

They take the characters they created within the first game and throw them to the side, and try to explain their story (which shouldnt happen in the first place you shouldnt need to explain your own story for yourself). They kill Joel within the first hour, and then you have to immediately play as his killer as well as multiple times throughout the story. Abby is completely unlikable as she was the one that killed a beloved character and the game devs attempt to humanize her in a complete failure. The game doesnt go above and beyond from the first game in terms of gameplay and it goes wayyyyy down in story.… Expand

So basically the story felt lackluster and all over the place. The idea between the story was good but everything executed in a bad way. New characters felt bland and hard to like. Rational people just do not behave this way, including the "supposedly complex" characters in this game; Naughty Dog simply drops them into the sewer to deliver forced brutality shock - again - and again. The scarcity of genuine and believable character development keeps TLoU2 floating in the sewer throughout. I’m not sure what the hell Naughty Dog was trying to do, but this game could just as easily have been called Postal 2. It failed to engage me on any level. Others are claiming that Last of Us 2 is a disservice to the established characters from the first game. I think this is too kind, The Last of Us 2 is a disservice to every character in the game - each one a mockery of humanity, and then overtly politicized which only heightens the mockery. Naughty Dog seems caught up in their own bubble of smugness, because very, very few people care if game characters are straight or gay; white, black, or blue; Human, Krogan, or Orc. But virtually every gamer does care that the characters fit the world, lore, environment, and narrative; virtually every gamer cares that the narrative is unique, engaging, and builds upon the established lore. Here, Naughty Dog simply takes a dump on the world. Yes the game looks great - but honestly, that’s expected for a AAA title. The game play is adequate - if just barely, which is expected from B level games. Given the ridiculous and insulting context of this game, I have no intention of “finishing” only to accentuate my level of disappointment. Perhaps Naughty Dogs next masterpiece will let you role-play as Eric and Dylan. This game has a single central pillar - Story - which fails badly - 2/10.… Expand

    Outer Worlds also had a side-story containing something similar, but so much more tasteful made. Did not need to repeat it in almost every verbal interaction to get the point across, as TLOU 2 did.
    Ending was stupid and pointless, after all that death and destruction for the purpose of killing someone, to just let them go? C'mon...

    Get a better screenwriter, IF there will be a 3rd one. Although, if you actually look around ,you'd realize that so many of the old fans have given up on this game and potentially this company. That includes me as well.

    Beloved characters are destroyed. Joel is killed within the first few hours. Characters make dumb, illogical choices. New characters are unlikable.

    Many many scenes are disturbing and feel like violence for the sake of violence.
    Bad thing after bad thing happens. With all the depression in 2020, this is not something the world needs.

    The starting of the game where we first get to see the settlement was so good . If they really wanted they could have gone in a different way and tell us a heartwarming lovable story but they had to be disrespectful to its fans and put in their **** agenda and make it worse.
    If you are a new comer you will enjoy the game but for the fans of the previous it just fuels us with harate and ending the game with saying violence is bad after Ellie killing thousands of innocent people .
    The game might as be named The End of us and not the last of Us.
    I have a huge games collection but I particularly shared this game from a friend because I have no wish to help the developers for being disrespectful. You don't make us Love a piece of work and then destroy it for your **** agenda. Might as well make a new IP for it.

    Not sure what they were thinking. This is just terrible. Do not buy. I dont think I'll be buying their games anymore. I think the high Metacritic score for this game is due to certain reviewers getting paid off. Not sure how this game could be rated anywhere near 100.

    Killing Joel in the first two hours, completely out of carater. SHOCKING THE AUDIENCE IS CHEAP AND I FELT MORE PAIN WITH THE DEATH OF JOEL'S DAUTHER THAT THE DEATH OF JOEL ITSELF.     If you enjoyed the 1st game then just know that all of the characters you love will be brutalised horrifically in a plot i can only describe as Sadistic and just plain not fun to play.....

    What more can be said, Dirty Dog tried something different as for the story line and character development is concerned and failed miserably, if ain't broke don't fix it, don't try to change a winning recipe, sad just all of it very sad.

    Nooooo! I wanted so much to love this and prove the haters wrong! I couldn't wait to get it. I'm heartbroken and frustrated. I hate agreeing with the haters ☹ don't hate it until you play but warning if you adored the first one be prepared for disappointment. There is some very WTF angry moments, be prepared! The ending left me so disappointed

Amazing scenarios and graphics, and the gameplay was really more enjoyable than the first one, an improved version. The history sucks tho. What the actual **** was that ending. She gets to live after that **** She has a two ****ing second flashback of joel and that's it? That was just ****ing horrible, I hope you don't make a the last of us 3. Neil Druckman please, get the **** out of naughty dog, don't ruin this amazing studio with your ****ty storytelling. I actually think the LGBTI+ members of the game are well implemented and don't draw too much attention to that trait of themselves. But the story, holy **** It sucks it just sucks, objectively, SUCKS.… Expand

    This game is truly one of the biggest letdowns of the generation. The developers show a clear (almost sadistic) level of contempt for the established fan base of this game. Characters are assassinated, politics are pushed, and in the end the game feels like a hollow facsimile of its former self. This game is getting review bombed and it **** deserves it.

The whole storyline is merged, reminiscent of star wars, where the character’s only goal is revenge, in this case also unsuccessful one. People play such games because of the plot, and not because of the excellent graphics or gameplay, the rating is appropriate.

    The game's writing is awful. Very poorly written characters who make bizarre decisions that no sane person would do. Forcing players to play as unlikeable characters not a good decision. Ultimately, the game has one of the worst endings I've ever seen and leaves the player upset as opposed to fulfilled. Avoid this garbage at all costs.

    The story is very bad, and the writing is very poor. Ellie and Tonny are not consistent, The game makes you play with the "villain" trying to make you like her... for, it didnt worked. I didnt care for her or for the other characters in her story.. they are all boring as hell, add nothing to almost nothing to the storey and takes a whole 12 hours to pass by... There is a "boss" fight when you are controlling the "Villain" and you must win Ellie... that was the dumbest thing I've ever saw in a game. After this fight, Ellie loose and the game should come to an end, but it didnt. It makes very little sense, but Ellie goes after the "villain" again and the ending is VERY disapponting.    … Expand

Narrative is destroyed to appease personal political and morally reprehensible agenda. However it does make up for the problematic plot were forced to play. Sorry but this game is worth more of a rental or getting it when it's on a 50% sale pricetag. Such a shame. 5 out of 10.… Expand

I hated every second if it. Hate that they make u play with the villian and yes I know the reason they show u her side was to say she isn't one.... but she is. Abby is just never likable. And showed no remorse about joel but in suppose to care for her ? Joel who was careful with strangers throughout the first one is all of of sudden sloppy with his Identity especially after ending any chance at a cure smh. He went out very weekly. Then the last fight in the game is an absolute joke and is not needed at all. I give it a 2 for The Graphics level design and the sound all which were great. So at the last minute I decided I’d get it and make my own decision. And wow, I honestly wish I could get my money back. Not only is the story awful, but I could care less about the characters. I literally had no feelings towards any of them besides our already established ones. This felt like an interactive movie. You can watch all the cutscenes online and you’ll basically miss nothing. It felt like the actual ‘gameplay’ was walking from point A to B and some combat sprinkled in. I grew so tired of the stealth, the AI is easily manipulated, I was sick of seeing the same neck stab/break animation depending on who you’re playing, I started to go into the combat guns blazing. When I did that I was able to clear out the area so quickly. On top of that, you'll get an audio prompt that everyone is dead in the area like “I think that’s all of them.” Meaning, nothing is going to surprise you now and you’re free to collect your resources and now you’re off for the next 30-60 minutes of walking or cutscenes. Difficulty should not have to be inflated to make the actual gameplay/combat just feel longer. And it’s not like the combat is much different than it was 7 years ago, it’s actually easier especially since Ellie has her endless knife and Clickers are totally pathetic now. This game in essence is a QTE Movie/Walking Sim. Just watch the cutscenes online and you’ll pretty much miss out on nothing. There’s nothing here in this game that hasn’t been seen before or done better.… Expand

    Middling gameplay, great graphics, bad story. Over the years, this game has become outdated and there are too few innovations compared to part 1. Also, TLoU 1 was cool due to a good story, in 2 it failed.
    If there were more variability in the game, at least the choice at the end, I would rate 7/10.

Is it an redeeming quality? Not at all, if you played any and i mean ANY game created by a mainstream studio you probably already seen it done better somewhere else. Plushol the game itself is way too easy! If you turn on color blind mode you're pretty much set to beat the game with out even trying. For your own sake, i reccomend you not to play this game, it's not satysfying to play for gameplay nor the plot.

    Great graphics, pretty good level design, nothing new on gameplay. For an interactive movie, or a game which relies so heavily on storytelling, Druckmann swung really hard and missed completely. Zero for Druckmanns ****.

    Ждал игру с момента прохождения 1 части. Купил на релизе, поиграл 7 часов, поставил 2. Если бы это был инди проект, то влепил 6-ку, но тут слишком больно смотреть во что они превратили Лоа. Если уже всё так плохо, а все пишут, что кал в конце - проходить полностью точно не стоит.Ждал игру с момента прохождения 1 части. Купил на релизе, поиграл 7 часов, поставил 2.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First let’s get the pros out the way:
    - The environment is beautiful, honestly one of the best-looking games I’ve played.
    - The gameplay is improved on compared to the first game, not completely overhauled but improvements in upgrading and the addition of new items and ways to improve your skill tree is welcomed and makes the second playthrough viable to max out the character on the new game plus option should you wish to do it.
    - The flashback sequence with Joel and Ellie at the museum was perfect, that should have been the story not what was given, that’s the only point I thought this feels like The last of us in storytelling and I will give praise for that.

    Now onto the negatives...

    -The treatment of characters is disgusting, Joel has had his character essentially stripped back to be viewed as a monster compared to original and it just angers me rather than saddens me that his death is handled the way it is and that essentially rather than let the player interpret the original ending in their own way, make it clear in black and white you shouldn't be okay with what he did, that doesn't sit right with me. Everyone on Abby's part of the story I just don't care about, her included because we've spent the entire first game playing Joel's story and seeing his loss and these people kill him and not only are we forced to play as them but sympathise with them? That isn't how I felt. Jesse I liked maybe due to his lack of involvement but then he dies, just out the blue without much drama around it. Tommy at the end is seen as some bitter only out for revenge monster and you can't even blame him.
    - The gameplay is repetitive I found myself getting bored after about 8 hours and the game is about 20/23 hours depending how fast you're going through your first playthrough. It was a slog to play and on the first run that’s not good.
    - The writing in general, its honestly baffling. Ellie making decisions that literally 20 minutes before she states she wouldn't make the plot holes are noticeable. The entire end act of the game is about Ellie being so consumed by revenge that she leaves the life she has with Dina and the baby to kill Abby finally and then by the end, doesn't even do it. I don't understand the point behind this.

    I honestly could say a lot more but honestly, I’m just sad, I could be angry which in terms of the writing I absolutely am but overall I’m just sad that my favourite game in the last of us, has received a sequel that honestly, just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and leaves me not accepting that anything was made beyond the end of part one because i'd rather that was the case. Neil Druckman doesn't deserve the level of abuse he was and likely still is receiving but that doesn't mean you can’t point out that he ruined this sequel and franchise by delivering some cliché revenge is bad story while butchering the very characters that made the last of us what it is. I honestly didn’t expect this, I didn’t expect it to be as good as part one but I definitely didn’t expect it to be such a betrayal of the characters from the original game.    … Expand

    Incredibly disappointing. The gameplay and graphics show the hard work and dedication the developers had in making this game but since the story was what made its predecessor so amazing it's truly disappointing to see what has been done here. I'm all for progressive inclusion in games but they failed to honor the characters created in the original title. This lack of consistency inIncredibly disappointing.     Just finish the game, what i found in the part 2. Disappointed. I mean this game is perfect, but the way they treat their character from part 1 is dumb.

    It's a shame that a game that looks Soo beautiful Host such horrible storytelling.

    What a shame for people who are waiting this "thing" for 5 years. It could've been epic with this graphics and gameplay but they just threw it away like a piece of garbage. I hope somethings might change after this. We don't want this!

This seems to be interpreted as a positive thing by many, for no apparant reason.
    As far as the game and it's technology goes, it looks and sounds wonderful (a lot of skilled and talented work was wasted in this game's production) but there's very little that's in any way interactive. The lush vistas are merely skyboxes and billboards, the detailed environments will be merely glanced at as the player taps triangle to pick up the same crafting ingredients they were picking up 8 years earlier, in the worthwhile original. This is the game's major flaw (other than the terribly written 'plot') - the game is identical to the first in playability in every way; only three actions (jump, dodge and prone) differ, none of which adds anything to the game. Further, the venerable and cheap PS4 Jaguar core only being able to offer at best 1440p upscaled at (barely) 30fps makes attempting to aim with a joypad an exercise in frustration.
    Then there's the review bombing. Prior to release this game was brigaded with 10/10 and 100% scores from 'outlets' functioning as marketing arms for Sony. It seems the public are finally becoming aware of the corruption and nepotism that has largely destroyed gaming journalism in the last few years, and are now attempting to make their voices heard in the only ways available to them.
    In closing, I would recommend to new players to avoid this game entirely - while it looks nice, viewing a playthrough online will save you 60 bucks. It's about 20% walking simulator with no interaction, 60% awful, poorly written and infuriating cutscenes - and 20% sneaking up behind people/monsters and tapping triangle. Terrible.
    To those who played the original, I would avoid this like the plague. Comparisons to 'The Last Jedi' are appropriate and apt; beloved characters written by someone who clearly hates them are destroyed and literally spat upon in an attempt to drive your 'engagement'.
    The only thing I was engaged to do was return the discs to my friend and leave this hugely negative review. 2/10 is not a 'review bombing' score; it is my genuine assessment of this software release.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
