    Diversity in games and media is great. Blatantly forced diversity and identity politics in games gets you this product. Couple that with a complete lack of respect for beloved characters and a revenge story that any given person could come up with and you get The Last of Us 2.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Looking at the many individual aspects, the game is great! But, over all (considering that the story is the most important thing), is terrible !

    Getting us to play with Abby, after she killed Joel, is the biggest mistake. Obviously I didn't create any empathy. No matter the time spended with her, all I wanted was revenge !
    I understand that the whole construction of the story depends on demonstrating Ellie and Abby's revenge motivations and his affects, but play with Abby ? After she killed Joel !? Not for me.
    We have a lot of life history with Joel and Ellie, a few hours playing with Abby will never hit the same felling. Considering too that Joel's choices have always been fair, makes Abby's revenge pointless and hard to deal.

    And this guides to the second big mistake: Joel's death. It would never happen from that way.
    Tommy and Joel have been pass for a lot of problems, problems enough to comes to a point that they would never say their real names to strangers, especially in the circumstance that they said, surrounded only by strangers. I think Joel wouldn't say his name in that situation even if Abby had saved him instead of him saved her previously. I am okay if joel have died, but the way he died disregards who joel is.

    The Last of Us didn't need a sequel and the second part was everything we didn't want. Doing what they did was disrespectful to the story itself and the fans.    … Expand

    Graphics are really good. the gameplay is just average. But the story is garbage. I have had dreams that had more coherent stories than this. What a shame. Niel Druckman should be fired.

    I am a fan of the first game. i played every dlc and the main story about 10 times. i was looking forward to this game for a long time and now this.
    the story is bad, the charakters are bad and i hate it when they put their political agenda in games.

    The graphics are amazing, the accessibility is unparalleled, the gameplay is solid. The story is trash and insulting and only a sociopath could be emphatic with Abby.

Graphics is definetely good (probably the only game of this generation that looks decent on ps4), but it feels that all other aspects were intentionally made worse.     Now. The Story is bad, really bad, I mean why would you kill one of the best characters in the entire videogame industry like that, Joel deserve a better death, I mean Joel was old of course, but he was a complete badass, his death was something stupid, Naughty Dog have some unique stories but this one here is lame, like if they try to make you feel bad for Abby, I mean why would anyone feel bad for someone who is not relevant.

    The story could be better if Joel didn't die in the beggining, maybe later in the game like protecting Ellie or something like that.

    Naughty Dog literally spits on our face with a story like that, the director and the company give us a lot of hype for something so dissapointing, the only good thing about TLOU2 is the graphics and new gameplay otherwise is just another bad history.    … Expand

    It is not enjoyable or entertaining.. The characters are unlikable. I couldn’t care less what happened to them. The story telling is clumsy/poor. The LGBTQ+ characters are just caricatures. There isn’t any real depth either. The game just piles misery upon misery and only showcases the worst in humanity. Without any subtlety or balance. Naughty Dog TRIED to be shocking, and challenging and deep. And failed. They just indulged in a debauchery of torture for no real reason other than the shock factor. Its unsubtle and crude. Did playing the game change me? Will it leave a lasting impact? No. It’s going straight into the bin. Naughty Dog took what should have been a homerun and managed to fail. Such a shame!
    I am a massive fan of the first game and it pains me to write this. But anything other than what I wrote would have been a lie.

    I really hated about the game is how it completely forgot it was set during an outbreak/apocalypse. Now it looks like teenage drama. It doesn’t make sense that Abby’s group would just let her drag them along across the country for some petty revenge, it’s a waste of resources and manpower. Ellie and Dina living on a farmhouse towards the end of the game is so unrealistic and retarded, like why, after experiencing so many traumatic things, would Ellie accept living in a vulnerable location instead of the safe walls of Tommy’s town? It just feels like they were trying too hard to make Ellie and Dina some sort of single family, it was honestly cringe. And am I supposed to believe Dina just left the farmhouse at the end of the game, while carrying her very unreliable and needy baby? There is absolutely no indication that the outbreak got any better since the first game so I’m not sure why everyone acts like it’s a teen drama in this game. Why does Joel and Tommy save abbys group at absolutely no reward of their own? Why is Mel 8 month pregnant and still running around fighting like a dumbass? So **** dumb.    … Expand

    If the first game was a painting, this game would be like setting said painting on fire as a pretentious statement. It takes a dump on the game's history, and even if you ignore that, the story is just bad.
    Giving it two pity points because the visuals are pretty, but nowadays that alone does not make an exceptional game. Gameplay-wise, everything else is simply obsolete. Shameful.

    This game being bad made it actually made it more memorable, people didn't wanna play as this main character, they wanted joel, like how when dkc3 came out everyone disregarded it because people wanted to be donkey kong. Out of all of the bad triple A ps4 titles this ones the most memorable, all the bad games from this specific generation are why this generation was so memorable.

Most people seem to hate the story, and while I personally despise the dialogue, I don't really care that much. I enjoyed the first TLOUP, but wasn't in love with it like some people, so I guess I didn't care as much about the characters or story in this game, or because I was in a near catatonic state by the final act of the game, haven't really figured out which one yet. I will say, one of things I noticed with the story was that it felt out of order, like they had all the major story moments in a file somewhere and accidently scrambled them.     Just really, really bad. The narrative, if it can really be called that, is so jarring and unintuitive as it sucks you away from the momentum and action with poorly utilized flashbacks with no real impact or purpose. I can't say enough how disappointed I am to have waited so long for this sequel. What a shame.

    There's so much wrong with this game.

    Yet another game publisher that has bought its ‘great reviews’ just to drum up hype and make their sales targets like death stranding...best game of this generation? Pfft! More like a lesbian romp with a terrible script. Managed to sell mine on ebay and get my money back before its value goes down to a 5er in 2 weeks time.

    Graphically stunning, its technically a masterpiece. But the story and political views and the way the characters develop are enough to destroy this game. I am in shock on how bad they made some characters story line. Definitely not the sequel I was waiting for .

    The death of a major character was extremely bad in its execution. For me this game really ruined the legacy of the original. Ellie and Joel were great characters in the original. This game was unsatisfying in so many ways.

    Neil Druckmann had an very uninspired vision for this project. While I think representing diversity was a positive thing in the game's storytelling, I also believe that character development was a failure- which ultimately cheapens the ambitious characters more than if they had just gone with a vanilla action-movie cast. You can be as ambitious with characters as you want, but if you don't build good characters, there is no element of comprehensive story telling.

    I am disappointed yet not surprised by the positive feedback from reviewers. This game was just not for me.    … Expand

They didn’t turn it into an assembly line, like Assassins Creed, didn’t make the game a little worse than the original, namely KILLED. I feel dead, and Nill Drackmann stands by and spits on my corpse. The whole game is a sick fantasy of a man who imagines himself to be a genius. Do not expect logic in the plot from TLOU2, it is not there. If Drackmann decided that some character should die here and now, so it will be. Characters die as stupidly as possible, their actions are illogical. In the game, loudonarrative dissonance is very felt. Remember the scene with the deer in Tomb Rider 2013? So, here everything is much worse. Everything that we loved the first part, disappeared. There was only beautiful graphics, animation and gameplay, which almost did not change. Unfortunately, if I tell in more detail why this game is so bad, it will be a spoiler. For me, as a TLOU fan, this is the biggest disappointment of the year. Friend, I want to contact you: if you love the first part as much as I do, do not buy this game! Let Drackmann go down from heaven to earth and stop considering fans stupid pieces of meat.     1. Graphic This game's graphic is clean(, the environment, the animation, lighting effects, characters' model quality    It is funny how almost every green scores are 10 , where is 8 and 9? And did you know the game is shipped out lot early than 6/19 in lots of eastern countries compare to where you lived? lmao sooooo trustworthy~~~
    Anyway, let the review begin......I'll start with the pros
    1. Graphic This game's graphic is clean(, the environment, the animation, lighting effects, characters' model quality are gorgeous.

    2. Sound Voice actors did a really good job expressing the emotion(even if it was forced), music is good but not the best.

    3(?). Gameplay It has a variety of ways to kill the enemy in details, hits really felt real and satisfiy, buuuut it kinda get bored after the first few hours, enemies are just too weak, not even hard difficulty can changed this, clunky ai, jump is useless, no real puzzles either, basically just like the first game, and gameplay ain't what the first game is praised for.

    Now......the cons
    1. Story I don't think I have to say more, there are enough reviews and summaries about how much plot holes and bad developments in this game, in conclusion, it totally destroyed what they built in the first game(F all the characters' personality in the first game, cheap flashbacks to consume the fan), and tried to build something stupid and childish enough that exceptionally failed.

    2. Characters I don't give a F about those stupid names being ranted out and unimportant unmemorable blank characters died to make me feel guilty, new characters are either annoying or boring, and they can go out as any way possible and I don't give a damn, good old characters either died or go insaned(characters breakdown), and talked about new characters like abby and lev and that careless pregnant woman, uhhhhhhhhhhhh......at this point, it is kinda amazing how they made them so unlikable, and it ain't because of the political stuff, we had similar story and characters in the telltale walking dead and nobody is against Lee died or clementine being lesbian, we had strong buffed women characters like zarya in overwatch, aloy in horizon zero dawn etc, and no one are against these, so why this game's character sucks? Because they started in a horrendous way by slaughtering the og protagonist, and don't have good story and background to back it up, make people emphasize, those super forced cheap political figures are just the straw that broke the camel's back.

    3. Scenes Some scenes are highly disturbing and the good animation and sounds just make it more uncomfortable, very double standards about censorship.

    4. Ending All you did is for nothing, the killer got away with her little bastard happily ever after cause you are forced to forgive her after killing hundreds of people oh and some dogs to get to her, and you ended all alone with 8 fingers which can't even play the guitar your father figure gave you, guess abby is the real father figure now, right????
    The point of the whole game: reVeNGe bAD yeeeeeeeet~~~~~~and it didn't make up to that point cause in the end tho one revenged(abby) got what she wanted and the one who gave up(ellie) lost everything......seriously, what a JOKE!

    Wow. This game was a mess. I ended the story a few minutes ago and wanted to see how the other players liked it. The story was so unnecessary at times and stretched out wayyyyy to long. The characters are boring and everything we loved in the first part is gone. The bossfights are a joke. I really had to convince me to end this game just for the trooys. I hated it very much.

Это продолжение культовой первой части, которая по итогам стала игрой десятилетия и оставила настолько огромный след в истории игр, что в итоге ожидания второй части настолько были завышены и в итоге фанаты первой части получили, не, то что хотели.
    Плюсы: Графика. Графика в этой игре просто прекрасна, для ps4 это максимум, сколько сил было убито чтобы создать такую картинку.
    Атмосфера. В отличие от первой части где был красочный, жесткой пост апокалипсис, вторая часть немного меняет её в очень суровую и серую жизнь, но к концу игры атмосфера и вовсе пропадает, это плюс только за первую часть игры.
    Проработка мира. Шедеврально.
    Флешбеки, или самоповтор. Все таки надо понимать что первая часть строилась на взаимоотношении Джоэла и Элли и когда во второй части происходят флешбеки это просто выжигает напалмом твои волосы.
    Минусы:
    Сюжет. Сюжет игры оказался не тем что все ждали. В начале игры нам показывают самый лучший момент игры (спойлер!) смерть Джоэла, его настолько жесткого убивают на глазах Элли, что самому хочется убить тех кто это сделал. И теперь главный минус игры это персонаж Эбби, как Элли только Эбби, это детище современного движения и Аниты Саркисян. Naughty Dog наверно не понимают что ( борцы за права ) не играют в игры и особо не на что не влияют. Но с другой стороны персонаж полностью раскрыт, его мотивация, и характер и в общем сюжетная арка сделана хорошо, но вид Эбби это ужас, за неё отвратно играть, а секс сцена с её участием напоминает гей порно. И один из тупейших моментов игры и ее посыл заключается в том, если тебя вот вот убьют говори что ты беременный. А теперь главный минус игры СМЕРТЬ ДЖОЭЛА и просто слив, Джоэл в первой части распознавал мразей и уродов по первому взгляду, а тут зачем то доверился незнакомцам. Ну и повестка игры сама за себя говорит.
    Геймплей. Геймплей почти не изменился, и уровень сложности это что-то с чем-то, на уровне выживание получается идеальный стелс шутер, а на нормальной скучное дерьмо.
    Самое большая печаль связана с работой разработчиков, игра в плане техническом плане 10 из 10, а вот сюжет и повестка 0 из 10.    … Expand

    Good graphics decent level design that's about the only positives of the game the story has so many plot holes they time jump years to fit the new narrative and the ending is so lackluster same old revenge story that doesn't pay off & to anybody that's still interested in getting this game I'd recommend going pre owed that way you can get your money back if you don't like it

    This game honestly was a disappointment. I loved the first game. The story was well paced and it was one of my favorites. This one.... not so much. It felt rushed and I don’t care about some of the events that happens in the game (no spoilers) I just didn’t connect with the characters this time around.

    The first game, made you fall in love with the synergy of Joel & Ellie, made you feel like these 2 characters cannot be seperated and are bonded together together in a post apocalyptical world.
    This game completely butchers it.

    There is no Character Love in this game.
    Im not even exaggerating with this review, the game just makes everyone lose who took the first The Last of Us as a baseline.

    Here a quick Summary :
    The Graphics are really astonishing
    The gameplay overall is not bad, but very repetitive.
    The Puzzles are sadly very ... boring, especially considering how much you can do with the enviroment in videogames nowadays.
    Despite many people claiming that the game is badly reviewed because of the Lesbian action going on with Ellie, i dont think this is an issue and never has been an issue in the first place.
    Every other TLOU game has pretty damn good reviews despite us all already knowing that Ellie is not Heterosexual.
    Abby kills your favorite Character in the Story, Joel pretty early on in the game, and then tries to sympathize you with her for an insane 10+ hours.
    Noone with the last braincell would say "yes, this is a good idea, lets kill the favorite character, and lets make us play her for half the games duration".
    There are also so many plotholes in this game, that it just gets so stale and boring after some time, unbearable.
    The simple actions Ellie takes in this game make no sense whatsoever either.

    Overall, the Storywriting in this game and the *very badly* designed and repetitive gameplay made this game a 2/10 for me personally.
    As much as i want to like this game, it behaves like an abusive Relationship.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros: Graphics are outstanding. Environment is beautiful and in some cases as stunning and well thought out as the first game.

    The game is very lineal and tends to feel more like a hallway but the environment makes up for that. In some areas I could have spend hours exploring and wanted more places to explore.

    The flash backs of Ellie and Joel/Tommy were by far the best parts of the game and I would have played hours of just that if I could forgo everything else.

    Cons: When you have a story based game, that had a first game built on and loved as a story based game. There are always extreme expectations when you do a sequel, even when a sequel isn't necessary, you have to really pull out all the stops to make the story feel as amazing and loved as the first one. In the Last of Us 2 the story writing is weak. The game uses cheap and manipulative story mechanics to push players into feeling sympathy for Abby and desperately attempts to make Ellie into some kind of revenge monster. It disregards a fact that Abby put all her friends in danger for selfish reason. If Abby had overcome her own loss she would have never dragged her friends along with her on some cheap revenge kill. No never mind that this is the apocalypse, communication is non existent outside of CB radios.

    Yet they travel thousands of miles on foot to kill this one person that they have no idea what he looks like or if he is still alive. I digress, the game makes every effort to force Abby onto the player. Ignoring fundamental flaws in story telling. What they should have done if built the audience up first to like Abby, maybe have the players play Abby for the first half of the game traveling across parts of the US. Then once the players develop that connection, then slam them with quite possibly the worst killing of a beloved character in gaming history. For people playing LOU2 and not the first game it would be fairly easy to not see the obscenities over this death. It was sadistic and in that moment sealed the ideal that Abby is inherently Evil.

    Abby never feels remorse for her actions, despite her actions being the direct result of everyone in her groups death. Essentially her selfishness was the cause of countless of lives. She suggested torturing People from Joel's town in order to find Joel. And later in a section where you are playing as Abby there is a conversation between her and two other pointless characters where they discuss a truce being broken with the SCARS. Abby's group shot and killed children and they justified it because those kids attacked their people first. The WLF from your very first interactions in NOTHING compared to Joel's group. They are clearly violent and have killed thousands with their "trespassers" mentality. They are a shoot first ask later and it didn't take Ellies actions to cause that.

    I could go on for hours about the terrible story but lets move one. The game at times is boring. I actually fell asleep while playing it multiple times and had to literally power my way through it because the pacing was just so damn bad. There were times I would make as much noise as possible in hoes to alert enemies just so I could have something to do because despite the beauty of the environment. In the sections where literally nothing is happening there is just not enough to explore to keep a players interest. Its so hallway based and just doesn't allow you to explore these clearly beautiful environments.

    The constant fade to blacks.... I just can't, they are so beginner and just drop constantly. The reminded me of the old Batman TV cuts where the bat symbol would spin and play music at every cut. I've watched beginner YouTubers better at cutting than that.

    THE ENDING! I literally just can't with that, at all. It was so unsatisfying and badly done. I can't give too many details or complaints without dropping massive spoilers. Even though at this point, it's moot.

    LASTLY: The dishonesty! The trailers for TLOU2 were manipulated and consumers were made to believe that Joel had a much larger role than he had, which was very little. Naughty Dog pulled a fast one and it really left a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths. They used Joel for sales numbers because he was so beloved and raw. If we were in the same situation as Joel had been placed, many of us would have been Joel and very few of us would have been Abby. That is the key point ND and Neil Druckmann really failed to understand.

    Killing Dogs. Now this part is very personal for me. I died many, many times to avoid it. I was led to believe that this would be an option in the game. Until that also became a flat out lie. Which for me immediately triggered a panic attack and was very stressful. When I was 6, I was forced to watch as my dog was shot to death in front of me as a punishment. The fact that I was led to believe that killing anything in this game is option is absolutely despicable and i should have had a warning.    … Expand

    This game still has the same clunky gameplay that was already outdated in 2013, and generally is not very modern in design. QTE, endless dialogues and pretentious pseudo cinematic style have been abandonned long ago for more gameplay based experience since games like bioshock or Witcher III showed that you can make a good story without endless annoying dialogues.

    The story is awfully pretentious and at the same time doesn't really have much to say.
    Neil Druckman's overinflated ego doesn't reflect his talents as a game designer. He obviously wanted to "subvert expectations" and emulate what Kojima did in Metal Gear by presenting violence as an endless circle, but the talent and creativity that made the MGS games so special just isn't there. Instead we have over the top violence, bland characters and a gas station novel plot.

    Combined with the very annoying story, the slow and clunky gameplay make this game a chore.

    This is not a good game and the fact it was propped up by critics as the definitive experience of this generation says all you need to know about them. There are dozens of better games that will never get that kind of attention, do some research and use your wallet to reward someone who worked hard to create something special.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Holy **** I’ve tried my absolute hardest to like this game from every conceivable angle, but it fails in most of its regards. The characters all feel shallow and lifeless husks of their former selves apart from some of the newer ones. They proceed to then be used as plot devices like Joel dying, or the pregnant woman killed by Ellie to demonstrate her “villainy”. The plot is incoherent and has so many writing sins, that it makes young adult novels look like **** Lovecraft in terms of depth and character development. Abby is portrayed as if she is the hero and can do no wrong for most of the game, while everything Ellie does is apparently evil and terrifying. One of the worst parts is that the game forgets its set in an apocalyptic setting and treats everything like its grey in terms of morality, when in reality it’s only evil and selfishness, where everyone does what they can in order to survive. Abby is not a bad character by any means, but her motivation is weak in the setting, and her development is done poorly. Ellie has a complete character shift in here and will do no good, it seems. Joel’s death was absolutely terrible. It is one of the worst examples of an anticlimactic death, and just shows us how much plot armor they give Ellie and Abby. You use this trope in order to show how fearsome an enemy is, or show that there is no hope. It’s not used as solely a plot device in which you forget how a character treats others, and acts like he’s Been their next door neighbor for 20 years. The ending is absolute flaming dog **** There is no depth or anything whatsoever that the fanboys say that there is. It is a cliche that I am tired of seeing in media, especially when the perpetrator gets away with no or barely any punishment. To end this **** essay let’s give ideas on how to improve the ending and the game

    1. Reorganize it. The game could do with Abbys backstory being introduced before Joel’s death.
    2. Have Abby kill Ellie and regret it or viceversa.
    3. Have Ellie shoot Abby in the leg, and leave her, just as she did to Joel.
    4. Introduce a reason for these two to work together in another game.
    5. Make Joel do something other than die.
    6. Remove the sex scene.
    7. Have the side characters be of more importance. I personally enjoyed them and wished to see more.
    8. Show that the apocalypse is still occurring, and have the infected have an impact on the story, probably forcing the two protagonists to work together.

    This is a game I have tried so hard to love, but Neil Druckman has has **** over intensely. Bring back the old director, devs, and writers.    … Expand

There are many games that I have played over the years, and there are only a few that I've disliked to the point of actually getting a refund: this game is one of those few. Imagine if Square-Enix came out with a direct sequel to Final Fantasy VII, and in the first 30 minutes or so, you brutally murder Cloud Strife and he had no way to defend himself all while a party of goons forced Tifa to watch one of her closest friends die. That is what this game has done to Joel. While I will admit the graphics are superb, the story and gameplay, or lack thereof, is terrible. As many have said, this game would've done far better as a movie, and at least with bad movies, it's easier to wash the bad taste away afterwards.… Expand

Second, I have played the game from beginning to end. I have been gaming since I had been given a hand me down Atari which was around the early 80s I believe. With that being said, on to my personal review of this game. The graphics were impressive. I loved the environment and the lighting that was used through out. It gave a very "dirty" look in certain terrains and textures. The sound was very good. Playing with headphones really makes every sound seem like it's right next to you. Now on to the plot or story of the game, simply put, I thought it was stupid. I mean, how do you let someone who killed a person that was like a father figure to you go at the end on the basis of "There has been enough killing"? Seriously??? Didnt we just spend over 30 hours sneak killing some people and some dogs just to progress? Oh but we are meant to believe that right when you have the person (Abby) at your mercy and are about ready to Fallout some justified vengeance, you have an epiphany and let her go. If Naughty Dog only spent more time on the story board than pandering to woke agenda my personal review would be higher. And yes I would have scored this a little higher but I admit that Neil Druckmann's online behavior and lack of acceptance of criticism may have influenced my scoring in this game. That and the fact that most places (gamestop) are not accepting returns as of this time. If you ate curious about this game, borrow it from a friend. Dont waste your money on this. It's really not worth it. Or wait for it to be on sale like 19.99 or lower.… Expand

    Coming from TLOU this feels more of what a fan made story would be, the characters have almost no development, they introduce new characters just to kill them moments later and you don't feel anything for them, they're empty. The graphics are great but the gameplay gets boring real fast. The rope mechanics where quite interesting but they didn't do anything interesting with it. The characters you've known from the previous game somehow got severly dumm and angsty. The story is bleak and very straightforward, with visible attempts at cheaply manipulating the recipient being more than frequent. The characters don't grow, they act illogically, generally come out as unlikable and seem to be wrapped in a plot armor 10 inch thick. The comparisons with fan-fiction levels of writing are actually one hundred percent spot-on. I'm not even going to talk about the controversial agenda pushing that's going on, I'm sure everyone has already made their picture about that.
    The other bad part is the combat. Naughty Dog has never been famous for their combat systems. However, as combat is a VERY integral part of this game (more so than in the first one, dare i say), the issues only rise in prominence and often you'll question yourself "what the **** just happened?" or "did the camera/auto-targetting/glitches (yes, the game has some minor glitches in the enemy AI) just decide to **** me over?". The combat and crawling through maps looking for hidden resources is fun a while, but gets repetitive and annoying very quickly and it only gets worse as the game goes on.

    If you've loved the original The Last of Us because of its combat, you're going to be happy with this game. If you¨ve enjoyed it for its story or characters, you're in for a very unpleasant surprise. Save your 60$, buy on sale if you want to try.    … Expand

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
