Gameplay - Sadly I found the gameplay, especially the combat, to be on a very similar level to the first game. The aiming and shooting still feel very clunky, and the game was too long and felt like a drag after the half way point.

Story - This is where the game breaks down for me, it's a weak plot triggered by the killing of a well loved character. The story is also told is such a disjointed order, that as soon as something important happens, you're back to another flashback. And not only that, you have to play as the killer for the second half of the game. The game tries to make you synthesize with the killer, but underestimates the attachment we have for the original characters.

No! But here’s my issue. The story is all over the place. It’s almost as if the writers had 3-4 ideas and couldn’t decide on which one to use so they used them all! The last act of the game was completely unnecessary. I think we could have had more Joel/Ellie in the beginning AND then kill him off. People giving this game a 10 are crazy. It’s a fun game and I absolutely 100% love Last of Us franchise but something happened with Part 2. Perhaps down the road we’ll get a documentary explaining “what went wrong” Expand

I'm sure you know by now you play as a different new character for half of the game, which pointless, this game could have been wrapped up in 6 hours or so. There's scenes that are just repeated and you have to go through them again and again and again. It really does break my heart to write this, but this is probably one of the worst story driven games I've played in a while, there's massive plot holes, unlikeable characters, in some areas it looks very cartoon like, i experienced a lot of bugs as well, it doors not opening, or doors being open but i can't continue the game. It's not a last of us game, the fact i paid £70 for the special edition shows how much i was looking forward to this game. It really has let me down, I'm so angry at naughty dog as they had so much potential with this but yet they decided to focus half of the game on an entirely different story line and going back and forth in time, it's hard to keep up. I replayed the first one at last five times. I've just completed now, and i will never play this game again. It's going straight on ebay. Hopefully can recoop some costs from it. Huge disappointment, Is it worth a play, probably if you like long winded, dragged out stories. I will say though the graphics are decent and the accessibility options are amazing, so hats off to them for that. I honestly do feel that's the only redeeming feature of this game. I wouldn't recommend buying it full price, when it goes on sale. 3/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Found this gem in a comment section: However I have to completely disagree about the game passing the message of "revenge destroys you" to the player at all. First of all, any time a character does a morally good action, the story punishes them for it (Joel saved a total stranger-> she kills him, Abby spared Ellie and Tommy->they come for her, ellie tried to get information from bf-dude and pregnant-lady without killing them->they try to kill her and she's forced to kill them). Ellie did indeed lose everything in her quest for vengeance and in the end did the morally right thing and forgave Abby, therefore forfeiting her revenge. Abby lost nothing in her quest for revenge and even accomplished it, most of her friends died at the hands of ellie in self defense and they weren't just innocent bystanders, they were accomplishes to Joel's murder, and in the end having satisfied her lust for revenge even gets a chance at redemption and a proper life in the form of Lev. So one of the characters gets her revenge, loses nothing to achieve it and in the end gets a chance at a new life while the other forfeits her revenge (having killed literally hundreds of unrelated people to get to that point), loses literally everything she has in the process and has absolutely no chance at redemption, having lost even her father's final gift to her (playing the guitar). If anything, the message I got was "seeking revenge or not, be as ruthless as you can be, lower your guard for no one even if they're tied up and at the point of a gun, leave no loose ends and never forgive", which I'm pretty sure is not the message ND intended, basically turning us all into tlou1's Joel, the guy they are trying so hard to frame as an irredeemable villain. I don't usually complain about games being too long, but when they're this repetive and go on for over 20 hours when they could've been done in 15, it's also a con.

Some aspects of the game are great, some are terrible. Sadly, this is mostly a movie-like game -- A cinematic experience, if you will. If the writing is not good, if the story doesn't hit you, the whole package falls apart. This is what happens with The Last of Us part II.

Y no quiero hablar mucho de la publicidad engañosa que se hizo del juego, hacer creer que pasarian ciertas cosas para que luego fuera totalmente lo contrario...esas politicas no las deberiamos de permitir los consumidores.

I loved the first game due to the story being a masterpiece in my eyes with others saying the same. I went in open-minded ready for how the beloved characters stories would evolve more and where this game would take me. Then Joel dies a character I’ve come to like a lot and the death is in a way where you feel both sad and angry, but after this the story becomes predictable and a bit cliche. My main problem with the game is how they try to demonize Ellie while making Abby ( a character you don’t like in the first place) good. Looking at both Ellie’s and Abby’s skills and weapons there’s quite a difference in the quality with Abby coming out on top. Then with little things like Ellie killing Mel with things like Ellie killing Abby’s dog and Mel who happened to be pregnant. I don’t understand why things happen the way they do. I played the entire game at least trying to get revenge and even that was taken away from me . The only thing keeping the game from a lower score is the gameplay improve ment . Expand

In some sort of attempt to make it original it's...ironically...some of the most cliched and infuriating story choices i've ever played, playing certain sections just made me want to put down the controller and turn off my PS4.

Positives are that it looks amazing, the locations are truly incredible. It sounds amazing and has some decent gameplay (besides the nigh constant resource scavenging which is infuriating), but doesn't improve too much over Part 1.

However, that alone doesn't excuse this mess, don't listen to the IGN's etc, that call this a masterpiece...it's not, not even if you are a fan of part 1...which is a true masterpiece.

Neil Druckman, if you are seriously proud of this story, then you shouldn't be allowed to make any more games.

I can't believe we had to wait 7 years for this joke...I wish i could erase Part 2 from my memory and believe that there isn't a sequel. Don't buy this game, just pretend the end of Part 1 is the end of this story.

The characters are underdeveloped and nothing from the first game resonates into the second. Old characters do not fit their personalities and new characters fail miserably at creating any emotional attachment. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The reason why I give 3 is because the graphics and the gameplay seem spectacular to me. It happens that, being this is a The last of us and that his story is an insult compared to the first, it is what makes this my opinion about the game. Joel's death is not what makes it a bad game, moreover, it is the way he dies. There are so many "coincidences" that occur in this scene that makes it seem too surreal. Another point that seemed very ridiculous to me was the fact that Ellie started with her revenge, killing many people in order to get to Abby, and in the end saying that she does not want to do it, because "Revenge is bad, it kills the soul and poisons her. " Yes, that circle of hatred and revenge has ended, but the damage has already been done and for forgiving the last person does not mean that you will forgive everything. It's too late to regret it, there's no reason to do something as stupid as what happened in the end. Another thing I did not like, I felt the story about Abby quite forced, I think nobody is interested in knowing the story of, someone who has just killed one of the most beloved characters in the game. It feels like they want you to feel sorry for that person, when deep down you just want to play with Ellie and go straight for revenge on her. The scenes of romance, especially Owen's with Abby, I was like What the **** am I watching, a soap opera or a story in a world full of infected? My conclusion: this is not a The Last of Us, it is a Love Problem in a world full of zombies. Expand

Not only that, but it was really boring. I know everyone thinks people are joking when they say that they've fallen asleep while playing this game, but it's actually possible to do so. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really wanted to like this game. the first was something special not only for its setting but story and characters. The chemistry between the characters joel and ellie are carried over from the first game, however the way the plot progresses seems to be only hindering its ability to tell a coherent story. most of this game seems to be in the past rather in the present. while its great to learn about characters and what their motivations are, its also important how we receive that information. if the information is given through a series of flashback with the outcome already made clear, why are we having those flashbacks. it feels like Abby could've had a heart to heart with one of her friends to tell them why she hates joel. that information is still their so we dont need a detailed flashback. the character joel while the chemistry between him and ellie is still there, he seems to have forgotten what being a survivor is. while it can be argued that hes gone soft because of the time he spent there or the nice people who walk through, it feels forced. the last of us is a dog eat dog world to its extreme, the fact that hunters or any other faction near them hasent attempted to take over is beyond me. they let people in so that would make it easy to stage an attack but no. those 4 years had to have been peaceful for joel to turn soft. the way he died is disrespectful. if you look at other beloved character deaths, they are handled with sincerity and care. they were with us in a journey, they achieved somewhat of they wanted. joel was axed 2 hours in the game. if neil thought this was a good idea like the first with sarah and joel. he was wrong, we cared for Sarah for the time we were with her but the sadness we felt was the utter helpness that joel had to go through knowing that his daughter was gone. Ellie was not innocent nor was joel sympathetic because joel is a awful human being. hes a great character with clear motivations and few morals. i didnt mind joel dying i took issue with how he died. he was never careful or suspicious, its as if yesterday was his first day in a post apocalyptic world. if abby and ellies story were chronological then i have no doubt this would have been a great game. not as perfect as the first but great, i only gave it a 3 for the graphics sound and programmers who put their heart into this while dealing with crunch time and dealing with a story this bad. Bad thing are:
Killing Joel wasn’t done properly and was done waaay too early on. Playing as Abby was terrible and I didn’t care about her or her friends. Abbys sex scene was super weird.( you ever get into a heated argument with someone in your friend group then Immediately start smashing?) I also didn’t really care that much about any of Ellie’s friends either. And buy the time you get to you end and you finally get to kill Abby YOU F****ING LET HER GO . The graphics were beautifully done. The gameplay, while very similar to the first game, had some minor improvements but nothing ground breaking. My huge issue with this game is the story and the characters. This didn't feel like a sequel to The Last of Us at all. I really do believe this would have been better as a stand-alone/spin-off game, with different characters to the first, but even then it would be a boring game with huge pacing issues. The pacing of this game is terrible. The order of events is baffling. Some parts felt rushed, others felt so dragged out I found myself extremely bored. For a story driven game, I simply can't give this a score higher than 3 because the writing is lazy, sloppy and cringe-worthy. I'm a huge fan of the first game, so I really wanted to like this sequel, I even got the collectors edition expecting to love it as much as I did the first. It didn't even take me an hour of playing the game to realise it was mediocre compared to the first game (which in my opinion is a masterpiece). I hoped it would get better but it just got worse and worse. Finishing the game felt like a chore, it dragged on and on with no real goal in sight. The ending was awful, one of the worst endings I've ever seen in a game, movie or TV show. I feel like the writer had a mediocre story he wanted to tell, without any care or respect for the fans of the first game, fans that waited 7 long years for this sequel, hoping for something better. I do feel like I wasted my time and money on this game, and I honestly don't think I'll be purchasing another game from Naughty Dog. The Last of Us was Naughty Dog's one hit wonder, which is a shame because it had such high potential, but ultimately ended up being like a long drawn-out episode of The Walking Dead, which btw I'm pretty certain The Walking Dead (TV show) is where the writers of this game plucked some of their bad ideas from. This game is the biggest disappointment gaming has ever experienced. 3/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am truly disappointed by the writing of this mess when the writer claims they played the original game. I understand that the original main character gets killed because they did a lot of damage that I know I would want revenge, but you took well experienced fighters and made them look completely ignorant to their surroundings. Then you make us play with a woman who 98% of the fans wouldn’t piss on her if she was on flames. I don’t believe that you guys were trying to be social justice warriors. Don’t put me in a label as a hater because the original DLC had a great storyline and it made me feel for Ellie even more because she was so alone. If you really believe that this story is good then your future games will be on the 70% off sales lists on the platforms soon after they are released. Its honestly not the way to go, great mechanics, and game play, but the story is horrible, why would you lie to "us" in the trailer with young joel, and also why would you make "us" play as abby, its like you're laughing at "us". If the story was joel dying early, and then the plot of Ellie getting revenge, it would be an awesome game, but you made a weird mess by making Ellie do "horrible" things to get to abby to then just forgive her, it doesn't make sense, humans dont work like that. And also not having multiplayer was was kind of disapointing, I have heard that you might add it later or as its own game, and I hope you do great on that one. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. *heavy sigh* I never thought I would have to say this, but Naughty Dog did not deliver in The Last of Us Part II. The story was weak at best with a lot of plot-holes, nothing compelling to keep me interested at times, and poor character writing. I was a huge fan of The Last of Us because of its compelling story, crafting system, combat, world exploration, and amazing character development. The Last of us Part II only had a fraction of these elements.
The crafting and supplement system was greatly improved and seeing Ellie/Abby physically craft the weapon upgrades was great. Combat mechanics and AI were greatly improved as well with new enemy call-outs, flanking, and rushing made it a challenge to beat. The world exploration was amazing as the environments were beautifully crafted. Naughty Dog, simply put, created the most beautiful looking game for the PS4. It was phenomenal to experience. However, in a game that is STORY driven, the STORY takes a majority of the points since it makes up the entire game. The story is supposed to make the player continue playing even if they have been playing for 4-5 hours already because they need to know what happens next. That didn't happen for me. It was much easier to leave the story and disconnect from the characters because of the way it was presented.
There was way too many inconsistencies with previous characters such as Joel and Tommy, and not enough time spent on new characters that Naughty Dog pushed us to like an sympathize with. It just didn't work. It did not make sense that a group of WLF mercenaries would leave two people alive that had a deep connection to Joel. That is a huge plot hole and convenience that wasn't thought through. They should have just killed ellie and tommy and ended the game right there. You cannot take a character that was beloved by everyone that played The Last of Us and kill him off in a way that spits on the entirety of the character we know to be true. I also want to say that I think Abby would have been a great character and her dynamic with Lev could have been very compelling. However, there was not a lot of build-up for those two for us to sympathize and empathize with their situations.Abby and Lev would have needed a game of their own in my opinion. By including Joel and Ellie, the whole story felt really rushed and forced on us. its as if the writing team said, "The character you love dearly has been killed (very disrespectfully to boot) and now you have to like the character that did that killing without any previous context or character development prior to her killing your favourite character." That alone makes no sense. If you are going to write Joel and Ellie into a new game, fans of the game are going to ROOT for those two. Not only do you KILL one of them but you leave the other BROKEN, ALONE, and WITHOUT ANY PAYOFF/REVENGE. "The theme of the game is that senseless killing is wrong", you do know that we killed thousands of WLF agents and EVERYONE from abby's friend group, right? To let abby live at the end of the game is a spit in the face of Joel, Ellie, Fans, and the story. There is also the issue of Naughty Dog lying to us with pre-release trailers on what to expect from the game. They told us one thing, and gave us something else. Lying like that is morally wrong especially when it is to people that are going to purchase the game. When you purchase a game on the pretext of what is promised and are given something that isn't in line, that is wrong. The last positive thing i will say about this game is the soundtrack, Gustavo Santaolalla has out done himself again and created a wonderful soundtrack.

I played many of Naughty Dog's games during the lockdown. Before playing Last of Us 2 I played Last of Us. The gameplay is very very similar, and most of the modification to the gameplay seems to have come from the Uncharted series. The graphics are a bit better than Uncharted 4/Lost Legacy I think, but I still think recent Uncharted were better looking than the Last of Us 2, because well,I played many of Naughty Dog's games during the lockdown. Before playing Last of Us 2 I played Last of Us. The gameplay is very very similar, and most of the modification to the gameplay seems to have come from the Uncharted series. The graphics are a bit better than Uncharted 4/Lost Legacy I think, but I still think recent Uncharted were better looking than the Last of Us 2, because well, they showed exotic locations instead of a deplorable situation that the world finds themselves in the Last Of Us universe. When you play as a character in car (when the Scars chase you) also seems to be straight out of Uncharted series. Similarly characters swimming to the Aquarium in a storm seems to be out Uncharted 4 (when Drake swims to the island). So overall the gameplay is nothing new, but combined from multiple games. The gameplay it is still very solid if you isolate the game and treat it as an independent unit. The only addition I liked to the gameplay was the ability to play the guitar in the game. The sound, music, the whole atmosphere is really great. So I would really like to commend the efforts of the developers at Naughty Dog for their tremendous efforts.

The storyline was really a let down in this game. I think this stems from the higher positioned personnel in the company. I am reading positive reviews where people complain that some negative reviews didn't not like the characters because of their sexuality etc. I think that is definitely not the case for majority of the people. I really liked Lost Legacy with two central female characters, and I loved the Last of Us DLC. The character development in TLOU2 is rather poor for the new characters, and the old characters seems to be stagnated. I really do think, that playing as Ellie throughout the game would have been much better, and having a DLC for Abby would have made much more sense. But anyways these poor decisions should be aimed at people at higher positions (who make these kind of decisions, such as directors, writers) rather than personnel who make the vision and decision for the game come to fruition (such as the software developers, the voice actors, the music directors etc. They really did a fantastic job with an average recipe, namely the story, they had at hand).

Naughty Dog thrive on the story of the game and the way it is told. This was a really poor attempt at story telling, absolutely shambles. The overall rating of the game for me would thus be 3.

The efforts of the general cast of the game (the developers, the voice actors, the sound and music composers etc.) - 10/10.

TLOU2 has to be the most graphically groundbreaking game on PS4. The combat is exhilarating and the environments lush and realistic. Thats about it though. The comparison with the Last Jedi is well documented. I hate the way Naughty dog tries to emotionally manipulate the player into hate Ellie and care for Abby. There are no redeeming emotional qualities at the end of this game. Everyone loses. There so many logic fails that compound the gaming experience. Abbey is rammed down your throat and you are forced 'cheaply' yo try and care for her but you have no desire for her to survive, she seems to take revenge with no moral concerns. She was about to relish in slitting a pregnant womans throat whereas Ellie is visibly tormented by her actions yet you are made to play as Abby for half the game. Expanding on the logic fails. Abby has chance to kill Ellie - lets her go. Abby has another chance to kill Ellie - lets her go. Ellie after settling into somewhat comfortable existence then goes back out and after travelling half way across the country to find Abby AGAIN - lets her go. In all at the end Ellie is a shell of the person she was at the end of the first game. Joel has been **** all over, remember Joel.. One of the most beloved video games of all time that has less than 10 minutes of screen time in this game. You have absolutely no emotional fulfillment to take away at the end of the game. I don't care about sexual orientation or any of that. Its just the sheer disrespect of relationship between Ellie and Joel that I can't forgive and leaves me slightly heartbroken. People who have the game a good review use “people die” as an excuse when the subject of Joel’s death comes up and i’d agree, but only if they killed him in a way that made since, instead they ignore everything about joel and kill him. “oh Joel doesn’t trust people so easily? well now he trusts any random person who comes up to him” is definitely what the story writer said when questioned about killing Joel. They could’ve done several things to make Joel’s death better imo but just killing him just for plot while disregarding his character leaves a bad taste. Another thing i didn’t like about the story was the new characters that were added. the only one i liked was Jesse and even still he was pretty meh. they kill the main character and then throw in several new characters that we’re supposed to care about. I just think they could’ve made the new characters better and not kill every single one of them off before we even start to like them. “we’ll kill off these 2 characters that we’ve seen for about 30 minutes and expect the player to be sad about it” Another issue was the sudden switch from playing as Ellie to Abby. Quick question Naughty Dog, why tf are you making us play as the character that killed our favorite killer and then make us go through some of the most boring/predictable stuff. like at this point i already know there’s gonna be an enemy @ the bottom of this slide or at the end of this conveniently placed door/window. they also try and make us feel bad about Abby but you really can’t after yknow SHE KILLS JOEL. Pleaseeeeeeeee Naughty Dog. Please come out and say this was all a joke and the real Pt 2 will be coming out @ the end of the year for the Ps5. cause tbh this doesn’t even seem to be like the game fans of the series needed. it just leaves a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Playing through the game, I wanted to give the writing the benefit of the doubt that it would get better. It didn't.

There are SO MANY things the writer could have done but didn't and it destroyed what a great game it could have been story wise. The gameplay is the only redeeming quality of this game.

My reasoning As a writer: (Spoiler warning)

Abby and her friends didn't feel remorse for their actions. Not once was Abby haunted by what she did. You can't FORCE someone to feel bad for characters that don't deserve sympathy.

Too many conversations that were never had. Ellie and Abby could have come to an understanding, but no. Many things in the writing were flat and destroyed what the first game was. Killing Joel was a mistake, Showing Abby and Her friends having no regrets for what they did, That was a mistake. Dina leaving Ellie at the end, That was a mistake.

I could go On and On about the catastrophe this game was story wise but I can't find the words to express how disappointed I am that Neil let it fall this way. This game should have been torn down and done from scratch story wise. You wasted the actress and actors' time on this flaming pile of garbage. They all did fine but the writing, Piss Poor and it tried to Force a message rather than let the players find out on their own.

As a writer you're not meant to force a message upon your readers or players. It's supposed to be ambiguous so they can come to their own conclusions about these things. You can't force us to feel anything doing it the way you did. This failure deserves to be a reminder that the series has been done wrong.

Neil can say "You don't know Joel and Ellie like I do" All you damn well want because Apparently it isn't true, Plenty of us have a better understanding of their characters than you ever will.

Neil you're a terrible writer and I Hope this failed project serves as the final nail in the coffin for you. The first game was Phenomenal and now it's apparent that you are abandoning good writing for a **** message you want to force on people. Hope this cripples you financially because this failure won't be forgotten by the fans...Ever, They will see your name and forever hate it.

hope doing what you did was worth it, and I hope you get everything you deserve because you failed as a writer. From one writer to another your best option would be to Do it all over again.

A revenge tragedy is all very well, but this is over-long by a factor of two and somehow manages simultaneously to be both clumsy and pompous in its moral argument (which is a lot less sophisticated and insightful than its writers seem to imagine). It also fails on its own terms as a feat of storytelling: I was left wholly indifferent to the fate of both protagonists -- in large part because they repeatedly made such improbably wrongheaded decisions -- and actively resentful for the length of time and attendent tedium that I had been forced to suffer cycle upon cycle of hackneyed narrative tropes: cartoon physics, zombie grotesquery, leaden verisimilitude. What a waste. Expand

The game definetly has excellent graphics, character animations/great facial expressions, weapons and customization options, good sound quality and solid AI, but the storyline is very disappointing. I think that after ending of the first chapter losing Joel in such a controversial manner wasn't appropriate. Moreover being obliged to play and emphasize with the character that killed him for literally ages feels very forced and painful . The ending is the worst though, it made me feel depressed and empty, like i wasted money and time for nothing.

However the pacing of the game makes it feel like it drags on. I especially have a problem with the way Abby’s story was handled. The order it was done in was very confusing at time going to flashbacks within flashbacks. Ultimately Abby’s story did seem like filler and by the time I got to play as Ellie again I just wanted the story to end already which is not a feeling you should get from any game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It’s saying something when the most enjoyable parts of the game are the 5 minutes of flashbacks with what SHOULD be the main characters. I couldn’t care less about the new characters they forced on us for half the game, and didn’t care if or when they died. Many of the events in the storyline just didn’t make sense, such as the countless instances where it seems like the characters are going to die, but then WOW! They somehow get spared! It was just an unsatisfying game, particularly the ending. No one waited 7 years to follow along characters we don’t care about after they immediately murdered Joel, one of the few that we actually care about, no matter his flaws or the “justification.” I understand the message they strived to send, but it was executed horribly. The only two things that save this game from a 1 or 2 rating are: the flashbacks of Joel and Ellie (particularly the dinosaur/space museum - absolute perfection), and the graphics/ gameplay. The story and its execution ruin this game. Sad, since the first is the best game I’ve ever played. Expand

I finished the game and i have to admit that i don't understand all this praise by critics. I can somehow understand why people hate it though. I think it's a mediocre game at best.

    Atmosphere:
The game definitely shows an astonishing environment. The graphics are phenomenal and i really liked the level desings. I think they are one of the best the playstation has to offer so far. The horror aspect of the game comes a little bit too short. The game fails here to create a really frightening atmosphere. I definetely give this game one point for graphics and one point for level design though.

    Gameplay:
The gameplay is very similiar to the first the last of us game. It's a combination of stealth enemy encounter, shooting, looting, video sequences and a few puzzles. It becomes very repetetive after a while and it ends being fun after you have seen the pattern :
story sequence -> human enemy encounter -> looting -> zombie encounter -> story sequence. That's the whole cycle of the game. Sometimes the order of the encounter is switched or theres a puzzle sequence within the looting sequence. But that doesn't change the fact that there are no new elements in the game. It's always the same and after a while it stops being fun. It's still not a bad gameplay, it deliveres what we expected. So i still give it one point for it's gameplay.

    Story:
Now the story is something where most people disagree and argue about. Personally i didn't like the story.

The first last of us had a very captivating story, about a battered man, who lost his daughter and finds new meaning in his life in the only immune person on earth, who would have to be killed in order to make a vaccine for the spread virus. It was hearthwarming how players learned to love these two characters as they grew to be some kind of family.

Last of us part 2 focuses on a completely different story. The story is about revenge and hate. The relationship between Ellie and Joel which the players really cared about is not really focused on.
Instead we get introduced to another character which we have to play for half the game. I can totally understand why people didn't like this part. I couldn't care less for the new characters and i even stopped sympathizing with Ellie because the story makes you. Overall the characters they tried to develop turned out boring and in many parts irrelevant. It's a completely different approach to the first game and it did turn out very bad. Therefore i don't give the game any points for it's story.

    Agenda:
The only reason why i mention this point is because it's really a big thing in this game. There's a lot about the presentation of woman in video games, trans characters (and trans oriented characters), gay-sex couples, ethnic and religious diversity to a point where it starts to distract from the story itself. I understand people who found it revolutionary to see all this things in a new triple A title. In my opinion it was too much and it was too forced. A lot of things were just there for the sake of it. It had nothing to do with the story and it didn't really help to develop the characters.
The amount of sexuality, gore and violence was too much for me as a player. I understood what they tried to emphasize with that but it was just too much. You don't get the option to play the game in a way you want. You have to get through all this violence because reasons. I think the devs could've made their point clear without all the unnecessary violence (and explicit scenes).

    Summary:
I think this game had a lot of potential. The issues people argue about were known by the producers and they still decided to keep it this way. I respect that as much as I respect the effort and work for this game.
I still don't recommend this game, because it's still a story driven game with a very poor written story. There are a few fun parts to play but it definetly doesn't justify a 94% rating by critics. As is said in the beginning, it's a mediocre game at best.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unfortunately the game is a big disappointment. After 7 years of waiting we are giving a poorly written script with characters that no one actually cares about. WTH is Danny? I don't know and I don't care! Joel is killed right at the start after saving the life of his killer. The fact that Neil (Manny) spits at Joel is a big picture of what is about to come. They literally destroyed the game trying to be innovative. The plot is weak and has a lot of flaws. I mean, do you guys really think Ellie would forget the map with her location at the Aquarium so Abby could find it and go kill her and the others? Ellen didnt even picked the god damn PS Vita, I mean, whatttt? She is crazy about that stuff! Come on! They try so hard to make us like Abby, they try sooooo hard to manipulate our emotions to make us believe that Abby is a nice girl. The manipulations did not worked on me! Abby is an horrible person in a world full of horrible people and I do not care how many hours I was forced to play her character and how many times I had to play with the dog, she is still an horrible person. They could have made this game a masterpiece, but Neils ego got in the way. The first TLOU worked because it was written by people that knows what they are doing. The first game is flawless! The emotions that the game make us feel is something that I never saw or experienced in another game. It is perfection! TLOU 2 is the opposite! You end the game disgusted, tired, feeling a disgrace. i regret buying this game. I struggled to play till the end, because the game is just BORING! The dinamic of the game is boring: we started as Ellie then we play as Abby, agai as Ellie, flashback, Ellie again, now Abby, flashback, Abby, Ellie and this go on for the entire game! It is really awful, annoying and boring! It makes the plot even more difficult to like and follow. I wish this game was never done in the first place. Joel deserved more. The fans deserved more. I have no problem with Joel dying if HIS DEATH WAS WELL EXECUTED AND WRITTEN. If he really had to die cause Neil thought that would be "cool" at least make his death WORTH the 7 years waiting! You just dont kill a character that we all love like that. The game has some good aspects here and there mostly the flashbacks with Ellie and Joel (The Museum was my favorite. Joels face when she hears the astronaut tape made me cry).. everything else in the game is just empty, pointless and without any value. It does not add to the plot it just takes and destroy the original script. They did not even let Ellie keeps Joels memories and bound with her. They took her fingers, so she now can not even play the guitar anymore! They destroyed her , transformed her in something that we started to dislike or even hate! She ends the game alone (remember her conversation with Sam in TLOU? about her biggest fear), empty, destroyed! And why? To justify Abby's actions? I do not care. This is a world of killers. Nobody is a saint, certainly not Joel, but still he deserved more. I do not recommend the game. If you really, really want to torture yourself at least be smart with your money and buy a second hand game. There is a lot being sold online for half price. This game is just not worth the money and the emotional burden. Expand

Its difficult to start writing a review when there is so much to say, so let's write about the possitve aspects that we all know about.
beautiful scenary's, mechanics, attention to detail.
Now , as far as story and gameplay , what a dissapointment. I want to start by saying I have always supported naughty dog I thought they never made mistakes and they truly cared about the fans, clearly not the case here, first of all they tricked us into buying a lie, they lied in the trailer so we could all buy this game, its a different thing to edit footage so it looks like something different but to completly change and put different scenes that is not ok I as a fan I feel extremely hurt.
Now the problem is not Joel's death as terrible as that was, the real problem is naughty dog try to make us feel attachment towards Abby like we did with Joel and Ellie and it became so predictable that nobody bought into it, they tried to use the same psycological tricks that they did in the first one, they even played the same scenes, the scene with abby and the zebra just like joel and the jirraffe , they tried to mimic the relationship between lev and Abby with ellie and joel, even when abby rescued lev in the end she was like "I got you" just like Joel when he rescued Ellie, when Ellie found the musesum and abby the aquarium and there are a lot more scenes you can look at them online, I think that is not that Abby's story was bad is just that we DIDNT CARE we were here to see JOEL AND ELLIE, thats why we bought the game, ok you killed Joel you better make up for it, and it was not achieved,is not that we (and I mean we as fans who didnt like the game) didnt understand the game, I feel its not a difficoult game to understand, we get what you were trying to do, show us the cycle of violence, how Joel was not really a hero and he destryed a lot of peoples lives, How ellie was able to let abby go , We get it, you just werent able to create the same empathy towards a character like you did in the previous I mean we met ellie as a kid, we saw how joel evolved as a person and we were with them every step of the way we understood their actions and we cared. now you make HALF of the game about a new character that is just meh , not likeable or complex enough for us to care,
What yout tried to do and provoke in the player just didnt work and thats where the failire of this game is, and after Abby's section of the game was over, there was no turning back, it was way to streched out , you lost the player, there was no flashback of the game that would bring us back to care, there was only sadness that we waited for YEARS for this game,
I am extremely hurt by what you did to my favorite game of all time. definetly not worth the money.

I am not a big fan of the story. Naughty Dog seemed to have too much of an agenda in making this game. Was there a reason in making Abby as buff as a body builder? It made no sense.
