Technically the game is pretty good, however, just couldn't get past the awful story. As a standalone game this could have worked but where they went with the established characters just didn't fit what had been previously established.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I dislike the Last of Us Part 2 because, while the graphics are gorgeous and for the most part the gameplay is fun, the story lacks meaning. And feels pointless in the end. I played hoping to kill Abby, and when Ellie left that behind to go live her life with Dina I was okay with it, because that’s understandable. However when Ellie left Dina and her son behind, and then didn’t kill Abby I was incredibly confused. She left her life behind, for no reason. Naughty Dog completed changed characters like Joel and Tommy, making them more ‘friendly’. There’s a sex scene which nobody asked for and now all people are asking for is bleach, to bathe their eyeballs in. Overall the game is an extremely upsetting sequel to The Last of Us. Expand

Ellie wants to kill Abby the gives up tries to kill her again but gives up tries to kill her again and then right when she's about to kill her she gives up.
Also they kill Joel the best character in the previous game in the dumbest way possible and then make me play the character that killed him.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us 1 was an absolute Masterpiece, a true 10/10 Game, a Sequel wasnt needed, but since they announced it, people were of course excited to see what Naughty Dog would come up with, and since Naughty Dog was till now regarded as one of the Best Game Devs, what could go wrong right? riiiight? Well it did go wrong oh Boy did it go wrong.

The First Game had not just great Graphics and awesome Sound (Music) but more importantly a superb Story that People were totally Sucked in, and awesome Characters that we loved and could identify with.

We felt with those characters, had a smile on our Faces when something nice happened, had a tear or two in our eyes when something sad happened, and i would say all the people who loved this game, fall in Love with Joel and Ellie and their heartwarming Father / Daughter like Relationship...

and here we have The Last of Us 2....what does it have in common with the first Game? Well 1. The Name, 2 Great Graphics (Pushing the PS4s Hardware) and again Great Sound but thats about it....

The Story is a MESS, same with the Characters! Everything we loved in the First Game was ruined here, they literally shat all over the first Game! And yes, the fact that they killed the belowed Character of Joel in the First 2 Hours, with less than 5 Minutes of interacting with him is **** but its not even the fact that they Killed him...no, most people were expacting him to Die in the Sequel, the **** Part is how he died! They Turned both Joel and Tommy into complete Greenhorns! Esspecialy Joel who would Trust like no one and is always super Carefull with what he does, suddenly trusts those Strangers, follows them in a Closed Area, and allows to be surrounded by those Armed Strangers like a fool! Followed by Tommy telling those Strangers his Name and where they Live and than Joel telling them his Name, even so he would never ever do that?! Its like they held a Sign over their head that says "kill us!" This was so unbelievable poor Story Writing - and no! explaining why this happened does not make it right! They just wanted to kill him so they could deliver this mess of a Garbage Story.

And like thats not allready frustrating enough, afterwards the player is forced to play as his Murderer for around 12 Hours!!! wtf was that!!! Playing 12 Hours as this extremly unlikeble She Hulk Like Psychopath was a Torture for almost all the people who hated this Game, and reason for many to Quit the Game at this Point and / or even Return the Game!

What is further annoying is the blatant and forced try of the Devs to make us like these new Characters (Abby) and make us think that they are the good ones while at the same time trying to make us think that the old Characters are the bad Guys (Ellie Kills Doggys = Ellie baaaad, Abby Plays with Doggys and Saves Zebra with her Dad = Abby gooood) nice try but failed hard!

And Naughty Dog trying to make us believe that Revenge is a bad thing....really???? So When Abby grows up from childhood to adult and hunts down Joel all the Time just to Kill him because he Killed her Father (because he wanted to Kill Ellie!!!!!!) that Revenge is ooookkkkkkkk, but when Ellie than wants revenge for Joels Death, that is suddenly baaaad??? Not to mention that after she slaughters all of abbys friends and an army of other people, at the end she suddely decides not to Kill Abby??? wth!!!!

so we are even denied revenge on that horrible person, that is abby, so she gets away with murdering our beloved character joel in the most brutal and disrespectfull way, Joel is gone, Ellie in the end completely broken down, what kind of Garbage is this???

Druckman said that probably many wont like this Game because of all what i just said....well damn right we dont!!! This Game is a gigantic middlefinger and kick in the faces of all the Fans of the first Game! For me this game does not exist! Last of Us ended with the First Game. Period! Also iam done with Naughty Dog, as long as they dont kick that Druckmann out and apoligize for this utter mess, iam never again buying anything from them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, 0/10 Scores and 10/10 Scores are both **** this **** is no Masterpiece so all those "bought" Perfect Scores are a joke, at the same time the Stunning Graphics, Sound and the good enough Gameplay are reason enough why Zero Scores are also nonsense.

I gave it 3/10 because 1 Point for Graphics, 1 for Sound and 1 for Gameplay, i was thinking about 4/10 but The last of Us heavily relies on Story, and when the Story is bad - like it is here - than the best Graphics, the best Sound and the Best Gameplay wont save it! Therefore 3/10 is my Score, with a big "dont buy this crap"

by the way, i was lucky enough that i could borrow this game from a friend (who also hated it!) so thank god i didnt waste money on this Garbage Train, and didnt support Naughty Dog for this Mess that they delivered!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where do I even start? Is it with the emptiness and despair i feel for the sad attempt at a deep game with no real depth?

Let me say this, graphically this game is a 10/10 and I mean every bit of that, they brought out the big guns for that. Sounds are on f-ing point. I cannot get over how well done those 2 areas of this are. Shout out to every single voice actor in this or person/s providing solid motion capture. People look and feel real, but that's where the positive factors end. Sadly.

The game play feels exactly like the previous entry with a few polishes to movement, but not much else. Gun play is ok, not perfect, hand to hand is as well. Overall it works so, there's that. Combat tends to get very tedious and repetitious, if you're tired don't play this game, you'll fall asleep. One new feature is you can jump now. Ok I guess, so now they've traded tedious dumpster and ladder "puzzles" for some rope and a jump button. Too bad I couldn't climb high, use the rope and jump. As Abby. Would have given some justice.

I wasn't expecting to be forced to play as Abby AKA She Man Woman Strong, for as long as they had us. I wanted it to be a refreshing change, spoiler, it was not. By the time I got control of her all I felt for her was disgust and hatred. So much so that I could only wait until I was collected. I don't care about you Abby. I don't care about your dead dad, I don't care about your lame friends. I don't f-ing care, die in a fire. See normally I don't mind a character change, as such a switch up of characters can help freshen a game and get me hooked even further. No this certainly wasn't the case. Let me end this portion of the review with this and no more than this. It's not what you did, that angers me so. It's how you went about explaining it.

The story feels so utterly rushed and forced that I had more fun yawning than following the repeated theme of ReVeNgE bAd. Ellie has become a giant C. Abby is a home wrecking hypocrite on steroids that 90% of us hate. Lev is trans because. I dunno why that's important but they say it is so I guess it is. Very proper of you ND, clap clap, so woke, clap clap, so deep, clap clap. Joel was laughably stupid, which we know him not to be, ya know from YEARS of survival previously established in TLOU 1. Naughty Dog had a golden goose in that, for reasons unknown they then beat it to death with a golf club to have a quick meal.

With regards to Abby and her massive gains.

Let me be crystal f-ing clear here. You do not just work out to get that way. You have to diet properly, proper nutrition is key. This is supposed to be an established apocalypse where a lot of things are very scarce and hard to come by. So you mean to tell me her group powered her up Altered Beast style, but only her? Oh ok. Makes. Perfect. Sense. SMDH.

There are strong female characters out there, both in shape and backstory. Some real and proper depth that make me want to see the journey through, Abby however, is strong for the sake of being strong and she is deep because Neil thinks she is. She is written to be a Mary Sue this game caters to. She gets hers, she gets the world. Our Ellie is to be made example of. I didn't enjoy watching Naughty Dog rape her, and yes, that's what they did. They raped her character and Joel's and through Joel, Tommy.

As far as the story goes? I've read pop-up books with more depth. I once "accidentally" lit my ankle on fire, I had more fun putting the fire out than playing through this train wreck of a game. Overall this game was ok at best. Some will love it, most will hate it. I give it a 3. 1 point in graphics, 1 point for sound, 1 point for accessibility options.

Bravo for the intentional mis-marketing of this game. You got away with murder ND. I hope you step on a lego.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This games looks amazing the gameplay is incredible naughty dogs usual gameplay polish is here with graphics better than any game they have made before. However as this is a narrative based game I’ve got to acknowledge that the story is entirely lacking and takes away from how enjoyable the gameplay can be. The reliance on coincidences and plot Armor withdraws almost any stakes in each set piece. And of course there’s Abby one whom is defended by many critics who ignore the fact that her and Manny attempts to justify killing kids in a throw away line in Seattle day on as well as the face she was clearly didn’t care and almost enjoyed the woman who’s throat she was about to slit was pregnant just to get one over on Ellie that’s just sick Ellie defended herself against Mel and Owen. Just because Abbie saves two people inevitably killing several of her owlf comrades does not redeem her in any way. The ending is something I won’t go into because I don’t even know how to feel about it and would rather recommend the last of us remastered as that is a 10/10 game if this game had a multiplayer faction mode like that one I would give it an extra point or two but the great gameplay is simply overshadowed by the contrived and manipulative narrative. The developers tried to push an SJW political narrative and it falls flat on its face. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Like many others, I loved the first game and had no doubt that Naughty Dog would deliver another great Game. Unfortunately that was by far not the case, furthermore they ruined the series.

We had everything, but instead of evolving the characters and the story, they just had to push their agenda with everything they could.

One of the most loved characters from the first game gets killed off almost immediately after the game starts and sadly in such an unbelievable stupid wayu, only for them to have their little "revenge" story. Instead of talking about the new enemies or what just happened, the characters rather talk about their relationships or how the kiss was/what rating they would get or how they would love to smoke something right now.

The new side characters will CONSTANTLY talk to you about their feelings and stand in the way most of the time, which ruins the experience of the world because they only react if enemies are nearby, which means you don't have to be carefully if they aren't

Gameplay wise, you can go prone now, that's about it. Years in the making and that's everything innovative? Besides the revenge story, their isn't really much to talk about, sure you have these new fractions you never heard of before, but besides going on a rampage, ellie isn't too interested.

Besides the awesome graphics and the great voice acting there isn't really much positive left of the Masterpiece The Last Of Us 1 was....

Abby's segment was by far the interesting thing about the game, after playing and get to know more of her, I really liked Abby more than Ellie, which I could have never imagined before playing the game.

You just won't recognize Joel and Ellie anymore, because Naughty Dog changed almost everything you loved about them.

Just really poor character development in order to fit the new agenda.

All Men act stupid or don't see the trap they easily avoided in part One.

Overall I really wished I never played this mess, 30+ hours and all that is left I disappointment how you can kill a franchise like that.

Ps. Declaring all negative feedback as Blind Hate is just ridicules and shows how blind and arrogant Naughty Dog has become.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There are good games, and there are bad games. Then there is this game.

I must congratulate Naughty Dog on it. In terms of how it looks it's fantastic. On how it plays, it's.. iffy. On the Storyline........... wow, I just dont understand what you were thinking.

So, let me explain Character in Story.

In the original, we have an Anti-Hero. Joel defines this by being the hero of our story but by being pretty much amoral... that's to say he clearly believes whatever he does is right, screw everything else. Secondly, we have his Sidekick and/or the secondary character, Ellie. It's our hero's job to protect her. So, what we psychologically learn from this is that we care ABOUT Joel, we care FOR Ellie.

Now, I'm not launching into some anti-feminist/trans/woke (delete as appropriate) rant here, but the problem is you've given us a lead character that we care FOR. I, as a fan of Naughty dog for many many years now, was fully aware that this game was to be played as Ellie, and that was fine because I enjoyed Left Behind (oh, to the weirdos who didnt know Ellie was gay.... play more games/do your research). However, I need more from a hero in a Story than "oh, you were the person I looked after in the last one". So why should I give a **** about Ellie? Because I'm supposed to? Yeah, not how it works. Perhaps this game should have been the next one, because all the flashback stuff suggests you could have built an entire game with Joel and Ellie where it becomes more comfrotable to play with Ellie and show that she is now fully self reliant..... but no. Here we are, the girl can now stealth her way though 99% of the game (a mechanic that makes zero sense but w/e), well thats just fantastic. Thing is, everybody loved Ellie in the original, but we all knew she needed Joel, and that's what we were there for. What you have created here is a Rey Skywalker level Mary Sue.

So is the idea "hey, they care about Joel, lets kill him and then the player will want revenge, and they'll definitely want to get it as Ellie"? Well, F that. The only character to logically put you in control of is Tommy, but no, Mary Sue to the rescue.

Anyway, the other lead. Yeah, she killed Joel, aka THE ONLY CHARACTER WE ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT. So why in gods name should we care? The guilt trip of "oh, Joel killed her father"........ please, please, please understand this: The Character we care ABOUT did everything to protect the character we care FOR. So we (the player, the Joels) do not care who we killed or if they had children, it did not and does not matter to us, Ellie matters. These consequences are nothing to us, so it's no wonder people hated Abby from the get go. Regardless of her image and so on, whatever she looked like, we would not like her because, oh, *Spoiler Alert* she killed Joel.

Also, Abby's whole story is boring. Like.... chick flick boring, like aunt Patty and Selma's holiday slideshow boring, like the Giant machine that dug the Mont Blanc tunnel: BORING. All just sideways angst. And then there's the..... ummm, "sex scene?" (Could only have been more hideously uncomfortable if Owen spat on his fingers to lube up). You guys know kids play video games right? And parents buy kids video games and dont care what they are right? And hugely popular games are always wanted by kids? And zombie killing games are wanted by kids? All these small children, exposed to that? I'll just say it: "Naughty Dog, Bad Dog, Bad Bad Dog".

The Scars were stupid, pointless and designed to be in the way (hey, just put zombies in the way, we'll care more)

The Rat King was cool, but the battle was exhaustingly repetitive.

Aaand finally. Don't make people kill dogs. Just don't. It's unwanted. Zombie dog? Sure. Healthy dog? No thanks.

Take it as a lesson learned. Bring back Joel. That lovely window of time between his daughter dying and the Boston QZ is ripe for some zombie killing and army man murdering. A rampage of bittersweet joy. Oh. Hope. Hope is a whore.

TLOU wasn't groundbreaking in terms of graphics or game mechanics, but the story and acting really puts some films to shame. But you get none of that here, the bond between Ellie and Joel was pushed to the back seat in this sequel as another seemingly agenda that ND felt was important was force fed to us gamers in a crude and in-your-face manner.

ND did an amazing job recreating Seattle and I give credit where credit is due; it's absolutely breathtaking and a visual treat. The motion capture was out of this world and it's the little details such as Ellie's bag and its zippers swaying as you move, the water dripping off from the point where after Ellie was soaked and every time after you visit the workbench, how you have to reload again because Ellie cleared the weapon before tinkering with it. Enemies' brain matter splattered all over the wall after a headshot and in this aspect, it was extremely well done. This was what made TLOU2 bearable for me to push till the final ending.

But all of that quickly fell apart when the number of plot holes are just staring at my face and begging for me to write this review. It's painful and what a big shame really, I bought TLOU on both the PS3 and PS4 (Remastered), completed at least 10 times and dare I might say, it's a masterpiece and one of the greatest games of my generation. But not this title they pass off as a sequel.

The story-telling was extremely disruptive. Every time the story gets deeper and you start to spot plot holes, understand these characters (and there a ton of new characters) Bam! ND throws you a flashback and you have to swing your thoughts again. It's as if every time you are getting close to a plot hole ND throws you off by making you play these flashback sequences. There simply wasn't enough time for me to relate to these characters and that was when it all start to fall apart. None of the characters are likable because ND made the pace so disruptive and one moment you are here, the next you are there.

I can forgive the lack of innovative gameplay, adding a jump and a rope swing in 2020 is like going back to 2010s and saying, "hey we have 3D models now!". Because TLOU isn't about industry changing mechanics, but the story. And oh boy, what a disaster with the story.

By now you should be aware of how we were all led to believe that things won't happen the way it would and unfortunately this was the biggest mistake of ND in TLOU2. I felt that if they really want it to happened, it should take at least 2,3 more sequels before doing so. Just because it took 7 years in the making, doesn't mean gamers will just forget what happened in TLOU. You can't just destroy something so beautifully created in TLOU in this sequel, force us to like these new characters that have no personality and in such an abrupt manner. We purchase things because we expect it to work the way we want to, not because the manufacturers have a new social agenda and want to mislead us through deception and censorship. Imagine you are at your local store looking for this brand of utensils you've heard so much about. They advertised it as long lasting, high quality and just what you'd expect from a AAA brand. You picked one up, it does looks like high quality material, you'd expect it to last and was happy with your purchase. You go home and suddenly inside the packaging the manufacturers say it's made of biodegradable material that will degrade by itself in 3 - 6 months depending on how frequently it's being used. False advertising.

However the ending was what really felt like a slap in the face for purchasing this game. It's as if ND hated this franchise and want this IP to go up in flames. It was akin to spitting on us, spitting on the franchise and giving a big **** you to all.

Note that game shops in Hong Kong and Taiwan are literally giving away TLOU2 for free if you were to purchase 3 other games. The used marketplace is literally flooded with this and stocks are stagnant.

Sorry ND, you done ****ed it up this time.

The theme of ‘revenge is bad’ is pushed onto the player with such poor methods. Repeating the same message with characters who don’t develop or make you want to care for them. It became a chore for me to complete the game. Characters in the game are possibly the biggest flaws of the game. Politics and games have been trying to mix for a while and Naughty Dog sure as hell did not make any progress. The political narrative in the game is so blatant that rather than focusing on what/who these characters are you see them as a sort of ‘puppet’ representing someone else’s political views. It seems like every new character introduced has some sort of ‘characteristic’ or ‘trait’ to appease a certain audience. The story a conglomerate of political ideologies, trying to address all current societal issues. As a result it removes immersion from the story and prevents the player from caring much about any characters. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first part of last of us was just outstanding. A milestone in the game history. I found the second part almost hideous because of the bad story. But first to the positive. The graphics textures are great. Whe weather conditions are very realistic. You can see that the graphic detals were programmed with love. With HDR you can even recognize tiny text passages in the big world. I also find the sound and the music composed very beautifully and professionally. The music adapts to the different scenes. I also think the gameplay is outstanding. The controls are simple and not complicated. Now the negative: in some places I find the game too boring because the mission repeats itself. Search for it or find it. That was not always the case but sometimes. Why did I only give a 3 for TLOU2? The horrible bad story !!!! How can you tell such a good story from part 1 so badly? A favorite character dies at the beginning and you are even forced to play with the killer for over 20 hours. What i liked most badly was that the game tries to influence me with a political opinion. I play games for fun and not to listen to and look at any political opinions. I feel that the game was a left political party game. Then I can turn on the TV right away. The end battle of the story makes no sense to me, especially the totally bad boring ending. in the end i felt as if i had played all the time without meaning and purpose. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before I begin, I am Spanish-speaking, and I am criticized that it was done with the Google translator, and it is likely that I have errors.

To begin, I will explain the reason for my grade of 3/10, without first explaining some things. The last game of the trilogy was very unexpected for the public, coming from a company like Naughty Dog, which since its inception has been making games with more childish tones (some less than others). At the time the first trailer was released, people were not sure what this title was going to be, which, after being released, moved everyone with a very good story, graphics, gameplay, etc. The new title would not have the same fate, it is more, it would carry the weight of marveling us all and exceeding our expectations, which clearly did not succeed, and it was not solely the fault of the company, since we have cases like Duke Nukem Forever that after 14 years of development, he did not meet the expectations at all, and people are partly to blame, for overestimating something that may not be what was expected.
The game itself, is not that it has a bad story, it developed quite badly, but the concept is not bad, they were wrong to focus so much on Ashley, and everything that had to go through her life, when she killed the character more beloved of the saga, that is why he did not achieve his mission of making the player empathize with it. As much as you tell me about your misfortunes and miseries, the player comes with hatred since he killed Joel, and that he does not forgive him, and less knowing that the main plot of the game is to take revenge on all the accomplices and the murderer. At this point, the game wants you to empathize with the 2 characters, and wants you to think that they are all good people, which is why they have lived previously.
PS: The game focuses too much on Ellie's decisions, as if everything revolved around her, sometimes downplaying the plot.

Anyway, the graphics are pretty good, but there are still a lot of bugs, downgrades, artificial intelligence glitches, very ridiculous things, typical of Hollywood movies.
A title that is not worth its $ 60 at all and makes me think that after each generation, it gets more involved, prioritizing money over quality.
    Bye.

Pretty damn awful, extremely bad pacing and very predictable once you accept that the game is intended to tell a story where everything ends bad for everyone. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story is poor, Ellie kills hundreds of people to find Abby and then just lets her live in the end. Did Naughty Dog forget Ellie in part one saying “after all we’ve been through? After everything that I’ve done? It can’t be for nothing” when Joe tries to convince her to forget about the Fireflies? They don’t bother to have Ellie and Abby talk about anything in the end, nothing at all! TOO MANY coincidences, TOO MANY over looked details that have major impacts on the story. Don’t have the time and space to mention them all but you can look up some YouTube video’s. Not so immersive when it comes to how your actions affecting the game. Example: if you have a silencer on your gun when you confront Norah it’s removed by the gane when it goes to the cutscene. When some WLSs walk into the school you can shoot your un silenced gun at the door that THEY JUST WALKED THROUGH and they won’t walk back out to confront you. When you play as Abby and fight Ellie the first time Ellie can kill you, so the story should end right? Ellie gets revenge for Joe’s death but the game restarts at your last saved point. The story is forced. Also your companions can be in plain sight “hiding” and the enemies can rub up against them and nothing happens. So annoying. Also TOO much of the story is focused on Ellie’s lesbian relationships, don’t mind her being gay but the amount of focus is overkill, we get it. Y’all had SEVEN YEARS to make this story a masterpiece but failed sadly. I can list more bad but I’ll just end with the good. It’s a visually beautiful game and I love the combat and situations you’re put into. I will still play this game but not for the story although I do like the flashbacks of Ellie and Joe. I do appreciate the detail they put into the settlements as far as how they grow their own food and such, coming from a prepper who likes to see some realistic details. If they make a part three PLEASE DONT RUIN THE STORY!!!! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The writing isn’t as good, the character development is poor for new and existing characters. Old characters like Joel, Tommy and Ellie (ESPECIALLY Joel) are written very out of character with ridiculously poor excuses as to why they’re written out of character. Joel was treated like some random NPC. Abby is okay, I want to like her. But she’s too forced and thrown into your face. I hate pretty much everybody on her “team,” Owen, Mel - gosh I really hate Mel, etc. Yara and Lev were fine. But the whole Abby + Yara and Lev felt very.... well, forced. I love the new shambler and rat king. I absolutely adore the more intelligent AI. This story could have been much better though, but it just didn’t pan out well. Also, the HUGE amount of false advertising in every single trailer basically telling us it’s about Ellie, and that Joel will be embarking on this new revenge journey with Ellie because he “won’t let her do this on her own.” Lots of lying, and it’s disgusting that Naughty Dog would lie to that degree just to make money off old long time fans. Unfortunately, the problem is that they wanted this game to be about “hate” and I guess they did such a good job that people literally hate the game lol. Jokes aside, I will still replay the game, but it certainly won’t be for the story. Expand

I got a PS5 back then for some nice exclusives and didn't want do touch TLOU2 but i did cause i wanted to try it and what should I say...
The Gameplay is good, very realistic animations but this is not a truly next gen Game.
It was developed for PS4 and a little PS5 patch does not bring me the experience i wanted or I was waiting for.
The Graphic is good but not more. I really don't know why they had to release this game on PS4 and not PS5 only. Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart was a good example, only PS5 and is a truly next gen Game! Very good looking and good optimized.

The Story from Part II is very bad... I don't know who thought this would be good but I'm very disappointed.

I would not recommend this game...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The original Last of Us marvels in graphical department, and originality of story, not to mention game AI and physic. While the successor, which surely has better graphic, but have many dissapoinment especially in story line. The 2nd one is lack of story originality, and trying to polished it by offering unexpected event. But did it work? Absolutely not, because it has a cliche revenge storyline and also repetitive mission, slash and kill, which one easily get bored during 2/3 of gameplay. Gamers have loss the curiosity when playing the game, the curiosity quessing what comes next in the story.

What gamers really wanted to know is how Joel and Ellie bond grows during all the year, and years to come. Their stories still has alot to explore. And if Joel eventually died, it should not because of his careless, but his willingness to do so, sacrifice for his love one.

There are still many stories involving Last of Us world. Exploring uncharted world of fungus, how other countries deals with it, knowing what started the outbreak, innovating science explanation, how species cross transmission of cordyceps happened in the first place, knowing the patient zero and moral fight decision along the way. There are still many unexplained things in first game that can take to the 2nd one, and will make it the much more bigger game, rather than make twisted game event and the controversial Ellie's love story.
This will surely become a lesson hard learnt for game studio in making successor for success game in the future.

Like just kidnapp him and a little bit torture him. In the end Abby would die or run away doesn't matter. Ellie saves Joel and that's it! Happy end! Okay, maybe Joel is still need to die. But why we didn't kill Abby. Abby was searching for Joel 5 years and finally did it. And Ellie just let her go. If Joel would survive game would take 15/10 but now bc of Neil its 5/10. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is probably the biggest mixed bag you could ever find. On one hand, it makes insane technical innovations, with some of the best graphics I’ve ever seen, and on the other hand its game play systems barely evolve past its predecessor title from 2013. Immense care is put into the environments and acting, yet points of the story seem to have been thrown together with no thought of logic or pacing. For about every pro one can find for this game, there’s a con that drags that pro down, and makes this game, to me at least, abhorrently meh, and insanely disappointing.

For a narrative focused action game sequel such as The Last of Us Part II, my 10 point system reads as such:

    Narrative

Structure/Writing, 0/2: The revenge format the story was aiming for here failed miserably. Ellie’s half of the game is over reliant on coincidence, Macguffins, and long travel times to the next narrative beat, which causes it to suffer from poor pacing. Abby’s half focuses on an underdeveloped war and redemption arc which are detached from Ellie’s story. These factors cause the conflict between the game’s two main characters to be shoved to the background, with them only ever intersecting at the beginning and ending of the game, with the mostly detached story of the middle feeling like a chore. By the time you get back to the story you care about in the last hours of the game, you’ll feel so exhausted you might not even want to suffer through it.

Characters, 0/2: Not a single character is executed well in this game. The game ignores the fact that the Fireflies were a band of terrorists to portray Joel’s attack against them as an irredeemable act. Ellie is a psychotic murderer who voices multiple times she doesn’t think what she is doing is right, yet continues to kill hundreds of people so she can kill Abby (which she abandons in the end, making one question why she killed all those people just to give up over killing one more.) Abby is also a psychopath who willingly joins a war she has no stake in, tortures people for pleasure, and enables a drunk man to cheat on his pregnant girlfriend, and yet the player is supposed to somehow root for her. Finally, Tommy is a bumbling fool who tells his identity to complete strangers, becomes a Macguffin for Ellie to chase for half the game, and ends his role in the game by guilt-tripping Ellie into abandoning her family to become his personal hitman. Because every character devolves into a sadistic or unrecognizable person throughout the game, it’s very hard to root for/get invested in the struggles of any of the characters.

Narrative Cohesion with Part 1, 0/1: The problem with creating a sequel to an open-ended moral dilemma is that your narrative will have to take a side in a debate that has no correct answer. Due to this, the game handpicks narrative elements from Part I to try and manipulate the audience to its agenda, forcing the characters within the story to commit acts that conflict with their past experiences. My best example is that of Ellie, who was so repulsed at killing only 2 people in Part 1 (in self defense might I add), that she went into a state of shock and self loathing for months. After 4 years of living in peace, Ellie suddenly has a switch flip in her brain, and she becomes okay with blowing the brains out of people she’s never met and pose no threat to her.

    Gameplay + Design

Gameplay, ½ points: The game possesses an excellent stealth system, and has satisfyingly brutal combat that makes one feel immersed in the grounded world of TLOU. What drags this section down a point in the looting sections in-between, and the overall length of the game. The looting is just boring inventory management, and the combat doesn’t evolve enough to stay fresh as you enter the mid to late game, making the late game feel especially dull.

Graphics, Sound, Controls, 1/1: Not much to say here. It looks, sounds, and feels fantastic. It’s pretty common knowledge at this point.

Innovation, ½: As a sequel, I expect many new features that weren’t in Part 1, especially with the 7 years and budget Naughty Dog had to work with. I give them half credit in this department, for while the game makes great strides in the game’s AI, immersion, and direction, there’s a severe lack of additions in gameplay. Besides being flashier, the gameplay experience is almost identical to the original. Two of the biggest innovations advertised for this game are its jump and prone buttons. I’ll let you judge that for yourself.

    In Summary,

Narrative: 0/5, Messy writing, laughable pacing, and unlikable characters make this game’s story intolerable.
Gameplay/Design: ⅗, Beautiful world design and brutal gameplay leave strong first impressions, but fail to maintain their power over the long runtime due to a lack of innovation.

Overall: 3/10, A hollow narrative without the gameplay to keep it afloat

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game, my god. Where do I even start? Let’s get the positives out of the way first.
•The graphics are spectacular •The gameplay has improved over the original
•The new infected designs are really good
    •The gore is great
That’s where the positives end. The story here is borderline offensive if you loved the first game. Joel’s death is treated so horribly, Naughtydog seems to think it’s a good idea for Joel to act like a total dumbass after everything we saw from him in the first game. The gameplay and graphics aren’t enough to make up for a bad story. It would be acceptable if this wasn’t a linear, story-driven game. Everything seems to be going well after Joel’s death, Ellie acts out of character and Dina doesn’t really have a purpose besides being with Ellie. But you can get over that at first, you start to kill the people that wronged you. Then, later in the theater, Abby shows up just for the purpose of killing Jesse and giving Tommy a fake-out death. Right when it starts to escalate, you cut to playing as Abby.I don’t have a problem with seeing a villain’s point of view, but Abby gets as much playtime as Ellie. We got this game for Ellie, not for some cheeseburger **** Finally, after all that, you get to the final fight against Abby, you hurt her good, the fight gets brutal, but then, right when Abby is about to get what she deserves, Ellie lets her live. Ellie does this because she gets a flashback about Joel, even though, knowing her character, this would motivate her even more to kill Abby. Neil Druckmann absolutely butchered the story of this game, it’s pointless. I would rather forget this game exists than encourage anyone to buy it.

The problem is, this is entirely a story based experience, and the story is so laughably bad, I genuinely had to pause the game several times just to sit in bewilderment at how stupid it was. It's so bad I can explain why without revealing any of the spoilers. This story is told in two parts, and there are two main characters. We follow one character that we already know, because she's the girl on the front cover of the game. We reach climax of her story, a dramatic stand-off between the hero and the villain, and we cut to black for a flashback, involving the villain. You learn why the villain is after the hero. Then you play as the villain. We play half-way through, when we cut out of the first story, and we're now replaying the same days as the villain. You're thinking that the stories are going to intertwine in ways that will let you know more about past events. But they never do. The story literally begins again, only now telling a completely separate story. It takes 10 hours to get back to the climax. The only thing we see now is the villain doing things that are so nonsensically stupid, I couldn't believe a grown adult wrote this story. We see characters taking drastic actions with such little thought or explanation, and they are consistently the worst possible thing to do in that situation. We see now that the villains were nice people all along, they play with cute dogs and rescue zebras from traps. There's a heavily pregnant woman that fights the infected and does Nathan Drake-style jumping and climbing. A teenage girl has an amputation, yet is running and fighting the next day, with little to no medication for the pain. It's so ridiculous that it genuinely detracts from the story, which is grim and violent with no moments of levity. What you learn in the second half is that EVERY single event in the story is happening either to a ridiculously stupid decision or complete dumb luck. It's just... objectively bad. It's complete insanity that this game is getting perfect scores. There is no possible way that the perfect 10 scores were by unbiased reporters. And just look at the PR campaign for this game, which is just character assassination. An actor from the game explains why he thought the father figure of the first story is just like one of the villains of the first story, who was a cannibal and a pedophile. There's even news articles about the game developers working such ludicrous hours that at least one was hospitalized. It's the kind of workers rights violations that should not be supported. This game is terrible and everyone involved should be disgusted at how horribly they've mangled a story that didn't need to be continued. That's difficult for me to even think about, because I've been playing every single one of Naughty Dog's games since I was a kid. The more I learn about the director's behavior when making this game, the more I dislike it. Please do not buy this game. Please don't support these people. Don't exchange good money for a bad story that is poorly told. Expand
