This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I waited seven years for this game to come out, hoping to continue the great story of Ellie and Joel....only to have Joel get bludgeoned not long into the game. On top of that, the pacing and timing of the game is horrendous. Having to play as Abby for an additional 10 hours once we basically got to Ellie’s end of the game was a terrible move. At least the gameplay itself was done well as was the detail in the world. However, the problems far outweigh the pros. Expand

Got worse later into the game. Too much PC in one single game. Damn! Certainly the end of the road for this series for me. Feel really sad. Sold my copy straight after my first bitter playthrough. This is a beautifully-crafted bad game. I really, really wanted to like it; especially after the disgusting behaviour from some fans with their anti-lgbt sentiments and death threats. Words failed me and still do.

Those things alone make me feel bad to express that I didn't like the game. Naughty Dog is an amazing studio and I'm sad they saw such an ugly display.

But it remains; I still didn't like the game. I did somewhat enjoy the first twenty hours - it was a bit tedious but it wasn't terrible. I personally had no gripes with the story choices most of the way in. I was expecting things to pick up.

They didn't... and things took an odd direction; still, I brushed aside the frustration, stayed open to the story-telling choices and reluctantly pushed through. By the end it felt like TLoU:P2 had essentially imploded in on itself. And it felt like a waste of time. The only thing I felt was disappointment.

I read some column pieces from critics and the various perspectives on how it ended. Though none of it changed my mind; I still feel like I played a version of TLoU:P2 from a bad alternate reality. Even after I'd 'taken a few steps back'.

For the most part I'm chalking this down to 2020. Another major title dropped this year and that too left me feeling similar: Final Fantasy 7 Remake - which somehow oddly escaped the wrath of its fans... and instead received near-universal praise.

I do applaud the efforts to represent LGBT characters; that's one thing I am VERY in favour of - and my frustrations are far removed from it. In fact, given the response from fans I hope NaughtyDog turn up the heat in this area next time. Maybe try man-on-man - if it ruffles feathers and takes the time to be engaging, I'm game.

However, with how things are with the storyline thus far I think they should do away with Ellie entirely; for me, things are too trodden in the wrong direction. And I'm wondering if NaughtyDog's "golden era" is coming to an end. I'd rather take a break and get a fresh perspective somewhere else in the same universe after the story of Part 2. After the grim events of this game, who knows; maybe Ellie can become an antagonist? Just be sure to take some "don't do this" notes from The Walking Dead.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have absolutely no issues with the choices around representation. I think it’s a bad game - not that fun to play, repeating similar sequences from the first one to try to boost unearned empathy for Abby. I felt condescended to and scolded for having invested in Joel and Ellie. It sucks - the first game ended on such a beautiful note of ambivalence. This made me want to stop playing games altogether. Regardless of that, it’s clear the reviews were bought and paid for, and the positive Twitter response smells strongly of astroturf. I liked playing some bits - take away all the cinematics and forget it’s meant to be a Last of Us sequel and you have an ok game. But as it is, it stinks of pretension and lack of respect for the audience. Expand

I believe if I were a TLOU Part I fan, I would give even lower score. However I didn't play the origin game, thus the score is higher.

    Key findings:

    1. There is so much of violence, that it is impossible to justify it. There are simply no reasons for having highly expressed and meaningless violence.

    2. So expect all characters act as serial killers, and no much of them left by the end of the game, and killed in the same meaningless manner.

It seems that creative team just wanted to share their brutal and hard to understand attitude towards those, who are the last of us, of humankind.

    3. And yep, zombies act only as decorations.

As a consequence I should say that the game left a very bad aftertaste, no matter so called "happyending" for these few who survived.

If you're a fan, I would not recommend this game. If you are a newbie to this franchise then you may go for this game.

Metro Exodus, which is based on the similar idea (with this I mean human relationship after apocalypses) is a positive example, providing similar or better graphics and gameplay experience.

However TLOU2, no matter that it shocks, attracts, however you may feel cheated by creators, forced to do what you would never would like to do neither in reality, no in game, and after all leaves impression that creators wanted you to persuade into something and that obviously failed.

    And bad aftertaste after all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I rate the game based on how much joy/feeling the game brings me over the cost (money and time) it took from me.

Last of US 1 was a great, great game.

Last of Us 2 not only added nothing to the development of the lore or game-play, it took away all the positive connection I had with the characters from the first game. I would rather the game did not get made. Forget the money or the time I spent, Neil destroyed what was once timeless and memorable.

    Was there any positive? Yes.

All the scenes where Joel and Ellie conversed, even when they were arguing.

And of course, the museum scene, that almost made the game worth it.

    But not quite.

1 for the great Joel and Ellie scenes.
    1 for the amazing graphics.
1 for the occasional great level design.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have no words for how much the story sucked. They managed screwing up a beloved character, killing another in an over simplistic manner and to top it off they force you to engage and control a new character (who by the way had way more charisma and attention than the main chars) and expect you to care about her.

All bad decisions leading up to a repetitive game with a uninteresting story centering itself in a character you don't care about. Way to go people.

I've been making myself endure the game simply because I could not believe how much they f'd it up. Don't buy it, it's an exercise in frustration and patience. A wonderful game followed by complete trash that has probably disrupted what could be an awesome franchise. Will not but the next one.

This game wants to bury everything seen in the previous installment, its history is poorly counted, although they had 7 years to develop it for this and many other things, I cannot compare it to the previous one, since in these types of games history is one of its pillars and in the first it was excellent but in this one you notice the script flaws and lack of connection with the characters.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I didn't like the weird pacing. The constant "3 weeks earlier, 3 months earlier, 5 years back, and so on". It was editted very poorly making the main story (about Ellie) feel off.

The second part (about Abby) was useless, I couldn't make a connection with someone who killed Ellie, the main character of the best game ever made (TLOU) and Joel probably an even better character. It again comes down to pacing. Adding 12 hours of Abby after stuff gets interesting with Ellie really demotivated me. I had to start over again with a character I did not want to know.

The Last of Us 1 had a story that didn't care about ethics and morals. It was about Joel loving Ellie. Going into fight or flight after not being allowed to say goodbye, nor getting payed for his deeds instead getting left out to die.
Turning this on his head and focussing 1000% on morals and ethics in TLOU2 made it feel like the writers for the game missed the mark of the 1st one.

    TLOU1, 9/10
    TLOU2:
Good graphics and details (Naughty dog being Naughty dog, gg).
Good gameplay but it gets a little repetetive after 20+ hours and a shame that all the zombies were the same as the first game accept for 2 new, rather uninspired additions. But good enemy AI overall.
Not a story I personally connected to.
    Total: 4/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finally finished the game after hours of playing. The gameplay and the visual parts were so good. The team that worked on that, did an amazing job. The problem that made me really dislike the game is the story writing. The whole playing process, I had a feeling that the game force me to do things that I don't want to do. For example at the end when Elly wants to kill Abby but then she remembered Joel and decided to let Abby go. I really wanted that the game gave us choice to kill Abby or let her live. For me that is just so weird, that Elly left Dina and killed so many people to take revenge and at the end she just forgives her.
Characters motivation was also so bad written, Abby searched Joel for 5 years. I dont think that she will be still that mad after 5 years. The whole Abby character is just far-fetched. She wants to take revenge for her unnamed father, that didn't even played a big role in the whole game. Like they had 7 years to think of the story and the story writers came with this.
I can't say it's the worst game that I have ever played, but as a fan that waited so long for the sequel, its really disappointing.

Not just because Joel died in the beginning of the game way to early, but also I feel it didn't have the same vibe as the first one, the first one I was constantly on the edge of my seat and completely engaged in the game, but I found in LOU2 some parts were drug out a bit to long and I found it a tad boring. And tbh, I don't really find the ending very satisfactory, although I do know why they did it. The fact that a lot of characters I personally liked a lot died, such as jessie died didn't really help. I found that the end of the game was the best for me. This game is BY FAR not as good as the first but I guess for some people it's ok. There are many other games. I'd prefer to play other games such as Undertale, deltarune, Arkham games, shadows die twice, etc. Sorry about this just being all over the place but I just don't think it's worth the time or money Expand

I still can't believe that creators of the game legend, one of the most dramatic, beautiful and touching plots in the industry that made us wait for 7 years for the continuation of this masterpiece, the very same people just... KILLED IT. And did it in such a stupid and primitive way. It seems to me they forgot WHAT made TLOU legendary back then- it was the Story of two different people becoming close to each other, creating the relationship lots of fans worshipped. It was Joel's story. The story of a disappointed and cruel bastard who becomes soft because of the little girl. The Love Story. Part 2 literally killed and raped both main characters And Us, games, by making us play for Joel's killer. I didn't wait 7 years to play for some random terminator woman whom I started to despise from the very beginning. The whole gameplay was disappointing, boring and disgusting! As to Dina - I'm not homophobic- I liked Ellie's friend from Left Behind - she was strong, funny and likable character!! Worth of our time and hearts. Where Dina is just... well... superficial. The Game is absolute trash the story makes no sense this game makes you play more than 10 hrs as **** Abby really they make you play and understand why she did what she did and its hopeless. She only got revenge on Joel because he killed his father. Joel killed many people before him and those could be parents who have children to but no Hulk needed revenge on Joel. We didn't even played more than 3 hrs and Joel died because of Abby. This game in my opinion it disrespects the man I mean the sex because as you can see they kill Joel and Jessie, and leave Tommy absolutely harmed without chance of defending himself but the woman who is Dina, Abby, Lev, and Ellie got to survive to be right on tha choices they make, and they are bad examples for the player I mean Dina and Ellie smoked weed and then they had fun, Abby killed Joel to show us that she was no better than him because he got revenge and harmed Ellie physically and emotionally as kind of how Joel did so what is the game telling us? This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is the disappointment of the year.
The creators of this game must hate their own characters. All to push a narrative the voice actor for Abby wants.
I respect strong women and have no issue with who someone chooses to love or what sex they identify as. With that said, I do not understand why they try to make you like a character who murders a beloved character so much. If that is not bad enough the other character that you have also grown to love is portrayed as a murderous no concience having dog killer. Whilst the woman who murders your father figure brutally in front of you with a golf club with his brains still graphically attached to it is a dog lover. They do everything they can in this game to rip down the characters that you have grown to love. If you never played the last of us if you do not love the characters of Ellie and Joel the game is graphically amazing playability is good, fight scenes awesome, story garbage! complete aarbage all to push a narrative from the voice Actor that plays Abby. This game does not deserve anywhere close to 10 out of 10 rating it is not as good as the paid to critics are wanting to tell you there is absolutely no way this game deserves to be game of the year it doesn't deserve awards it doesn't deserve anything what it deserves is accolades for the graphics which are stupendous and if you like to brutally murder people this is the game for you. If you like to murder dogs this is the game for you. If you like to brutally torture people with Blunt objects with no choice to do otherwise this is the game for you. If you like to be depressed this is the game for you.. I played through this game twice just to see if I would like it better all I was was completely depressed and upset that they made every man in this game seem like a dufus or a murderer they made a young girl into a raging murderous lunatic with no conscience they made a little girl who we became to love broken and didn't even give her the ability to play guitar again by taking her 2 fingers she lost everything and still did not avenge her father figures killer. Neil druckman should be ashamed of himself. Naughty dog studios should fire the creator, re write this story and re release this game it is complete garbage as a story driven game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay wise was both a huge step forward and a huge step backwards. Even though there were more options, it also made the game infinitely easier, defeating the purpose and the sense of desperation you'd expect to come along with a game set in a zombie apocalypse.

From a story standpoint (and all social movements aside) I think there is a mountain of evidence that proves this is a poorly written and overall bad experience. For example, flashbacks are useful and effective when only doing it once or twice, but this game for some reason slows down to an intolerable crawl with many, many flashbacks to display a character they kill in the beginning of the game. If you want to kill him, then just do it. Don't spend the rest of the game relishing in that character when you make a previous terrible decision.

In addition, the game forces you to play a character that you don't want to play (that's as far as I'll go spoiler wise) and tries to play with your emotions throughout when the entire time you don't want to be participating in anything that is happening. This game should have been a homerun story wise, but instead they try to challenge your beliefs again and again, when really most people (including me) play videogames to ESCAPE the real world, not be PUSHED FURTHER into it, when it's controversial to begin with. About half way through, I was completely checked out. They could've redeemed themselves in the end, but they didn't. It was all for nothing, and the motivations behind the "revenge isn't the end all be all" narrative will leave you feeling empty of satisfaction in a complete waste of time.

The last of us 2 and the developers at naughty dog really hurt our feelings and that's the best way I can put it because when I played the first one it was incredible the best game I've ever played, I literally attached myself to those characters to the point where it just made me cry because the story was so believable so good I really believed the characters emotions and then you come out with a sequel where you completely 360 the characters to the point where they aren't acting as they would in the first game, it is almost like they are literally different characters with the same names and also you insult us by adding another character which is fine but than we have to play as the person who kills another character that we all love so much it's frustrating it's upsetting it breaks our hearts and you the very people who created the game created these beloved characters couldn't see that what you created wasn't a great approach and that's unsettling because how can players like us who actually love what you do and love the games and world you create at naughty dog how can we trust you ever again. What will be from now on to us loyal players is your going to eventually come out with a new IP and then you're going to make a sequel years later and we will be expecting something bad from here on out and it is what it is. What you need to understand is the real gamers who actually enjoyed the game and aren't just review bombing, the people that put that last of us game in their hearts and was hoping that a second one would be just as good or better, we're the ones who are hurt but you obviously don't see that and you obviously don't care because you got your money it broke record sales and that is all you care about Expand

The Last of Us Part II managed to address the gameplay issue. On a surface level, the gameplay might seem like small iterative changes. For the most part, I think I would agree that the changes themselves aren't all that big. However, the way these small changes affect that game is huge. The new prone mechanic adds so much to stealth. Crawling through the grass to get a better angle on an enemy was very satisfying. In the original last of us, AI would only stun enemies, and in infrequent scripted sequences, they would kill enemies. Now, AI can kill enemies for you. It may seem like a small thing, but the feeling of getting helped by an AI made you genuinely glad they were there. The enemy AI was also very much improved. Runners are incredibly debilitating, and getting caught by one won't necessarily kill you, but getting caught with a clicker nearby most definitely will. The clickers themselves work slightly differently. Before, they would patrol an area and react to you if you made too much sound. They still patrol, but they have a scanning method now where if you are in front of clicker even without moving. If the "Click" to see you, they will notice the human shape and attack. This made for stressful engaging moments when an approaching clicker makes you relocate.

Human enemies are also much improved. They call out their dead comrade's names if they spot you killing one of them. It adds to the immersion in the middle of a fight and makes you reflect on what Ellie is doing. The new human enemy type is also fantastic. Scars will communicate with each other using whistles. You never really know what they're saying to each other, but hearing any whistle will instantly put you on edge. They also made a significant haul to the stalkers in this game. In the previous game, stalkers were just stronger runners. Now stalkers live up to their names. Once they are spotted, they run away and track you. You can't hear them even with your listen ability, and the only way to find them is to search unless they find you first.

I will say the new shambler addition was lacking for me. I think the reason for this is because they are blind. The ability to throw projectiles are not scary unless you get spotted. And even then, it's so simple to hide away again. Shamblers were a very disappointing addition. Not as strong as bloaters and not that scary due to their blindness.

The game also looks gorgeous. That can't be understated. The amount of work that the developers put into this game shows. The controversy surrounding the overworking of developers seems to be true when you see how much small detail and nuances put into every aspect of this game on a technical level. Some have mentioned glitches, but I have not run into anything notable.

The leveling system was also improved. I liked the concept behind this change, and overall I would say it was positive but nothing really to get too excited about. Finding books now unlock entire trees and pills are your upgrade points, just like in the first game.

Up until this point, I've only said good things, and I want to make this very clear. The game is one of the best games on a technical level. The gameplay works, however, a horribly written story surrounds it.

Decisions made at the beginning of the game serve to shock. After the initial hit of shock, you're just left with confusion. I didn't feel sad or mad. I was just confused. The amount of respect they give to characters is shockingly low. The disservice they did to even knew characters was so high. At one point, they leave you on a cliffhanger and don't give a release until hours later. There's a time jump, and you're waiting to get back to the cliffhanger, but it drags on for so long. You end up not caring for the new characters that they introduce during this time jump. The characters make decisions that have no bearing at all to who they are. It seems like they make decisions, so there can be a story. The amount of lampshading that happened in the second half of the game was so incredibly high, and the fact that the writers thought that merely stating the issue would fix the problem is incredible. Character motivations are weak. The story feels extremely contrived at points. But the worst part is that there are genuinely great moments in this game. But instead of enjoying them, it feels like a spit in the face. This is what the game could've been, but you don't get to see it.

The same way its fantastic story carried the first game's lackluster gameplay. This sequel's amazing gameplay is weighed down so heavily by it's disappointing, non-sensical, contrived, **** story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 'The Last of Us Part II' has come a long way from its original game, however I was left with a distasteful ending and shallow story arc. The main theme of the story was the plain old theme that seeking revenge is bad. Many aspects of this theme were not fully flushed out and gapping plot holes missing. Furthermore, the structure of the story was just abysmal. It feels like this game was rushed and realised there were some aspects that made no sense, thus the developers added flashbacks to cover it up, adding to the confusion felt by gamers. While Neil Druckmann’s vision was for gamers to feel sorry for Abby. All I felt was hatred and anger as I only saw Abby as a cold murderer with no remorse. And any action or story to try show the better side of Abby did not budge my opinion about her. This failure was due to the chronological order of the story being a hot pile of mess. It would make more sense if theoretically I played as Abby in the first half of the game so I could see what type of character she is. But this still won’t prevent poor character development in Abby. This is scene where Abby is about to kill Dina when Ellie says she is pregnant. But this remark does not stop Abby to kill Dina and responds with “Good” with a psychopathic smile. In addition, the underdeveleopment of some new characters left much to be desired.

I will give credit to the graphics and better level design in this game. Some sceneries such as Day 1 in Seattle lets you roam around the city at your own will and pace. However, as you progress in the game, the developers trap you in a linear level progression which was disappointing considering how far the game development has come. Gameplay is a hit or miss for some people, as a gamer who loved the original combat and shooting mechanics from the original game, I was somewhat disappointed in the range of motion you can complete. But after playing 18 hours of the game it felt like repetitive gory action of murdering everyone who stands in your way for revenge. There are small puzzles to change the dynamic of the game but, their impact was very minor. There are also nudity and sexual moments that didn’t have to be included. The finale is probably the most emotionless part of the movie. Logic and common sense is thrown out the window. By the end I did not care for any of the characters, the story did not evoke any emotion in me.

This was a garbage fire, short and simple. It should not be even considered as a part 2 of the game. Take in mind they took 7 YEARS to develop this game and to refine it. At least the first game had an over arching theme was hope, and “finding something to fight for”. The deceitful tactics and misleading marketing made you think that you would play with Joel and Ellie for majority of the run time. But this was not true as I played the game. Honestly I would wait for this game to go on sale if you guys still want to play the game. If you really want to play it now, might as well just rent it from EB Games or something. Save your 70 quid on something else.

Naughty Dog once again shows that they're the top dogs in achieving the PlayStation's technical peak capabilities. Visuals, Audio, World Building, all coalesce to form a stunningly beautiful post-apocalyptic world.

The bad, The Ugly, The Lunacy.

This game had a lot to live up to, and quite frankly it failed miserably in the one aspect that people loved about the predecessor so much; the writing.

The first game admitably had little in ways of a clever/ interesting plot, and yet it remains as a prime example of a masterclass in pacing and consistency. TLoU2 has nothing in comparison to the first game's narrative delivery.

One too many times I was left asking why and how, all for the wrong reason. One too many times the plot and narrative progression just feel so oxymoronically stupid that anyone would be remiss if they thought this writing can make for a good story, let alone any semblance of likeability in any of the cast in this game.

Not many games have left me, my family, friends, coworkers, online acquaintances all saying the same remark in regards to a fictional work; "Somebody wrote this... somebody actually wrote this and said it's fine to shove it out the door?", this game is sadly one such example.

Neil Druckmann claimed that he and his team broke conventions with this game's narrative when all he did is show how confused he is in how to follow up the first game at best, pander to his own writer's ego at worst.

Dual narrative with players going through the opposite sides of the narrative has been done prior; Halo 2's arbiter missions felt shoehorned to most and yet it was well done and further helped built the Halo universe, GTA 5 pretty much forced players to contend with some characters they'll likely find unlikeable and yet persisting through them all end up with some levity and ultimately a sense of satisfaction, etc.

The only way someone can rightly claim this game as breaking convention is if they consider wasting their target audience's time as such a feat.

If you want a satisfying narrative experience, even the newly release Ghost of Tsushima does it better than this game... and the former's overall narrative is neither clever or groundbreaking, yet it's a rewarding and wholesome experience in comparison.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was absolutely disappointed to see how Naughty Dog and Sony traded quality story writing to shoehorn a leftist agenda. Firstly, my biggest issue is with the killing of Joel Miller, the protagonist in the main game. By killing him so quickly and so early in the game, it seems that everything he's done in the first game was for nothing and that his sacrifice for Ellie and her potentially life saving immunity was for nothing. Naughty Dog clearly went for shock value over what could have been a better ending for Joel. Gamers have seen games where their favorite protagonist or mentor has died yet no other game has had such a backlash to the writers/company from their fans like this game. What made it more insulting is that we were forced to play as Abby, a woman who has the body of a man and was written to fit a more feminist audience. Oh and before I get called misogynist/sexist/etc. I had no problem with Ellie and Riley's relationship in the previous game as well as the possibility of Bill being gay. My issue is that the writers focused more on virtue signalling and shoving their politics down our throats in this game. In terms of Ellie's story arc, it doesn't make sense how she could kill hundreds and even brutally murder people like Nora and Jordan and take pleasure in doing so, yet hesitate when she finally finds Abby (the one who orchestrated this Joel's death and leader of the WLF/former Fireflies who helped find/kill Joel.) Jesse's story wasn't flushed out and neither were the Wolves/Scars. They were just place holders to add action and fill in spots during Ellie/Abby's story. Yara's story basically was only to bolster and add background to Lilly's. The whole Scars vs. Wolves drama was just a generic faction vs faction story to introduce characters but were simply scrapped once the story finally got rolling. Abby's body is definitely not realistic (and I use that term loosely since it is a video game - but not a video game where there's super powers/supernatural powers). Yeah there's a gym and the WLF has a garden/well stocked food supply but literally NO OTHER woman in that game was as buff as Abby. Even in the scene where her and Owen did it, her pecs were bigger and more manlier than the guy she was sleeping with. During the entire game, the writers tried to make us gamers and fans try to sympathize by killing Abby's friends/crew but with each subsequent killing, we felt happier, not sadder. They make Micah Bell from Red Dead Redemption 2 seem more likable. The Rattlers appearing as the final and surprise faction in the last part of the game also felt like more filler. There were barely and interactions with them in terms of story (other than the beginning) and they had no major role other than to be some rogue group that is hostile for no reason as compared to the military vibe from the WLF, the cult vibe from the Scars and the seemingly good guy vibe from the Fireflies. To add insult to injury, when the leaks came out, ND and Sony blatantly abused the copyright system on Youtube, Twitter, etc. for people who simply talked about the game (even if they did not reveal any audio/visual/pictures from the company through a shady 3rd party company (Muso). They tried to silence and dissent and even punish/block people who gave negative reviews as well as ignored criticisms/negative comments on the game, yet have the guts to only screenshot the hostile comments without showcasing the legitimate criticisms from the community. It doesn't take too much to see how this turned out. Just check out the Last of Us 2 reddit page. See how it was so supportive and interested in the game and then once the leaks came out, see how they reacted and treat the game today. Neil Druckmann and Anita Sarkessian have no one to blame but themselves for trying to force a terribly written story with a far leftist/feminist agenda onto the fans who were loyal to the company and series. It just doesn't make sense how ND had so many awards and accolades backed by their amazing list of games that are usually well written and have high scores yet this game is significantly lower than their average score for other games they've put out. However, in terms of gameplay, there are a lot of improvements to the fluidity of the game as well as creativity as compared to the last game yet the gameplay was generic in terms of pattern (explore, loot, some dialogue/notes/artifacts to collect, fight/sneak past infected/people, repeat.) They didn't even include a multiplayer feature which arguably kept their first game alive and relevant years after it released just to focus on a poorly written game with a generic gameplay formula that rivals that of Call of Duty's same old formulas. The only good parts were the improved game mechanics, beautiful graphics and some nice features such as playing the guitar during your downtime. Overall the story was bad, gameplay generic (only better when compared to the old game) and politics ruined this game. Expand

Plus, It forces you to play with unattractive characters favored by developers.

Honestly a really pretty game just the writing is terrible that's all. Like 4/5 Uncharted games were great (the third one wasn't that good).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last Of Us's strength was derived primarily from the relationship forged between Ellie and Joel; everything else was secondary. Somehow, TLOU Part 2 seems astoundingly unaware of this. Joel's death, although potentially a fine decision either later in the game or in a subsequent sequel, was a poor choice that immediately massively negatively impacted the game. Having to play as Abby during the first few hours, with it being very clear that she was going to kill Joel, was a devastatingly bad move, and I found myself letting her get caught by the zombies in a hopeless bid to spare Joel.

Character development was disappointingly poor. Ellie became a character that, by the end, I actually hated more than Abby. Her disregard for the welfare of her friends and her girlfriend paints a character who is deeply selfish, psychopathic, and not fun to play as: when I play a game, I don't want to feel like a bad person. I didn't want to make the decisions the game forced me to make, and when the game finally ended, after several false stops, I was left feeling desolate and depressed, with the one silver lining being that it was finally over. For the first time in my life i immediately uninstalled the game, gave my dog a hug, and traded the game in. I had no desire to play this game again, given how it made me feel.

The game certainly isn't all bad; indeed there are some fantastic parts (such as the level set in the outbreak 'ground zero'), the score works very well, and fine detail is great (such as the weapon modification animations), however the negatives outshine the positives. Dialogue was weak, with too much spoken explicitly and too little relying on nuance, and many things that occurred seemed to have been written just so the story could continue in the direction of the ending the writers wanted. Different parts feel disjointed, much of it feels disorganised, and some parts are far too long and boring. The degree of graphic violence was genuinely shocking, exhausting and entirely unneccessary, and I found myself having to look away from quite a few parts (I felt sorry for the animators). Perhaps most importantly, having to play the game as a character you are inevitably going to have little rapport with due to her actions in the first few hours was a gamble that did not pay off. Although I ended up favouring Abby, it wasn't because I felt sorry for her per se, but rather because I hated her just a little bit less than the monster Ellie had become.

First off the good stuff, the graphics are outright the best I have seen which to be honest was expected considering how good the graphics are in the first game(when it came out) and the technology used to behind it.

The game play and combat mechanics is still really good but there really isn't much difference here from the first game. There is only some small minor things... you would think after 7 years there would be some decent improvement or changes.

The Story, the single most important element of the game - imo is a horrible experience to play through, one horrific bad s*** crazy thing after another. This story butchers the majority of characters especially the ones we have come to love from the first game.

OK... I didn't like what they had done with certain characters but with one character in particular and the whole shocking scene with this said character had effected me quite negatively and from here on out I kinda had to FORCE my myself to play and finish the game(hoping there would be some good).
Never in my life have I had to force myself to finish a game.

We are then forced to play most of the story/game as a character who for me... well...hated(and probably for a lot of other people too). Playing as this now "hated" character makes it so much harder to play the game. The game has instantly lost its fun and interest factor.

Poor character development... I won't elaborate to keep this review spoiler free.

TLOU was and still is a fun, interesting, thrilling game to play and even though its 7 years later its still not bad to look at(graphics wise). The game has set the bar.... with the exception of the graphics TLOU2 however does not live up to that purely because of the continuation of horrible story events, poor character development and playing as a hated character through out!

Soooo that kinda happens with Joel and Ellie like a lot. I’m not gonna go into spoilers for this in case you somehow have still avoided them but if you played and loved the last game for its character story and relationship between the main characters (Which almost everyone loved the first game for) just save yourself the trouble and pretend there isn’t a sequel. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My honest take on the game

First off, my english is not perfect so sorry in advance, and sorry for the long post, not good at writing either.

A highly anticipated game for so many years by so many people. Including me.

First off, we all have seen the trailers. It was hyping us all up for the sequel. Looking back now i see how they have lied and falsely markedet this game. Should be illegal.

The story is decent, not good but decent. And by that i mean the plot is understandable. But it is not okay for this game. As the first game was my favorite game of all time. The sequel just takes a huge pile of **** and throws it all over you and spits on you. Thats how it feels. For the story is where this game fails. I must say credit where credits due. The game mechanics in this game is very much improved from the first installement. Its fluid and feel really good, but thats all there is of good things i have to say about this game.

Years and years of waiting and anticipating this game. We get it, now i wanna be reasonable when reviewing this game. But i can’t be reasonable with how this game is.

    SPOILERS

How can someone in their right mind decide it was a good idea to kill a such beloved charachter like Joel in such a disrespectful way. And topping it off make us play half the game as the person who killed your most loved character in a video game. It baffels me. You want us to feel for this Abby? No way. How you can write a masterpiece of a game, and follow up with this disaster.

You might feel at times the real Naughty Dog is held at gunpoint after you complete the game. Like this aint Naughty Dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This piss poor game was so unsatisfying and was a drag to play. The way they put an end to Joel even though he was the main protagonist on the first title was such a disservice to that character and its fans, especially so early on in the game which made his death more of a plot device than anything else. Elly looks and sounds dead. She’s not the same character who I loved in the first title. This game consists of subpar writing and lines with major plot holes. Multiple scenes that are a cringe-fest and it’s dragged out story. It’s like the writers didn't know when to end the game. At a certain point I wasn’t even having fun anymore, I just wanted it to end. But it didn’t. To top it off you get forced to play Abby just to see her pov in an attempt to humanize that character but demonize Elly even more. She had little to no character development for me to even want to sympathize with her. I find it quite ironic that Abby goes out to kill ‘scars’ but as soon as a couple saves her, she has a change of heart to help them almost instantaneously. But when Joel and Tommy save her, the game decides to torture Joel and end his life with a golf club. This was a horrible game. These ‘top critics’ are lying out of their teeth and there is no ambition in criticism/journalism anymore because they probably get paid to put on a front that this game is as good as they’re describing it. Naughty Dogs and Neil Whateverman can keep their third title if they ever plan on making one because this disaster of a game with it’s repetitive missions lost me as a fan. I’m going to slowly remove the sequel out of my head and act like it never came out. BAD. End of review. Expand

Honeslty the story was just stupid.
I tried to love it from the start but just couldn't in the end.
Once you finish the game you realise you literally wasted your entire time.
Stupid decision to make Abby a playable character for half the game.
Would have been sooooooo much better if the first 10% of the game was Joel & Ellie roaming around.
    Pre much the tutorial.
Have Ellie found out about the secret Joel had about her & then have Joel get kidnapped by Abby & her group.
The whole purpose of the game should be Ellie finding Joel & having her mad at him for what he did.
Debating if she even wants to find him.
When she finally does find him he could be missing a hand & have an eyeball ripped out.
So you've seen him proper tortured.
She can then be held down in front of him.
She then locks eyes with him & says "I forgive you".
    Then bam.
Joel gets hit in the head.
    The screen goes black.
    Credits rolls.
After the credits it shows Ellie with massive anger & vengeance in her eyes.
    You then hear.
    "I'm gonna **** kill you".
Then you just see on the screen something to do with the The Last of Part III.
Would be a great game & make you really keen for the third chapter.
    Oh well though.
