This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I first played The Last of Us 1 when I was 11 years old, and even at that age I could feel the range of emotions that most people twice my age could feel. Now it's been 7 years later and unlike some people I wanted a second game. After playing the game it breaks my heart to say that this game was absolutely terrible. The bond that was in the first game between Ellie and Joel wasn't there in this game. It was in a couple of the flashbacks but it just wasn't there. A lot of people are complaining about he politics in the game like the fact Ellie is lesbian but honestly I really couldn't see the politics being pushed in this game, and the fact Ellie makes sense 100% considering in the first games left behind dlc it confirmed she was. Enough about the story I don't want to talk about the story too much because I know there are 100 other reviews that are going to only talk about the story. I want to focus on another terrible part of the game and also some good parts. Starting with the bad parts which is gameplay, the gameplay in this game started off great it was really nice it was different than the last game the stealth in my opinion was actually really good, but the problem is, is that you do this the entire game. Some will argue that "you don't have to always do stealth" yes that's true but that would mean you only have two choice gameplay wise. Kill bad guys with loud gun, or kill bad guys with knife or bow. This gets extremely repetitive and after the first 5 hours of the game. Another thing that I dislike about this game is how 85% of the game is based around Seattle, this gets very old unlike in the first game where there was multiple areas that you was able to explore for long periods of the game. moving on from negative things about the game, which there are many more I could cover but i'll leave that for the other reviews. I wan't to talk about some things this game did very well. First thing is graphics this game had amazing graphics although I had to play it on my loud ass ps4 it was still an amazing looking game, I remember taking a lot of screenshots during the cut scenes and out of the cut scenes because of how amazing the game looked. That's all I really have to say about the graphics but if I had to rate the graphics alone 10/10 moving on. Soundtrack, there is very few other games out there that has a great as soundtrack as this one and surprise surprise those other games are naughty dog games. Naughty dog does a great job with the soundtrack in the game and better yet connecting the characters with it. I actually liked this soundtrack enough to pick up the guitar again and learn a few of the songs from the game, which by the way are very good. Anyway i'm getting tired of typing so I will just end this review here. If I had to say weather or not you should buy this game I'd say no, just because this game honestly ruined the entire franchise for me with it's terrible story telling... Just keep the memories of the first game alive and pretend this game doesn't exist... Expand

Now, for a game that relies so heavely on story, as it should be, it falls on it's knees when compared to the first game. It makes you hate what once was loved by most of the fans. In the first hour and a half the game takes a very dark twist and tottaly ruins the entire mythos that the first game created... a shame. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. ‏At first I didn’t know whether to buy TLOU 2 or not due to the many negative reviews and many positive reviews, but I decided to to give it the benefit of the doubt. *Spoilers*. At first, the new characters introduced in the game I never really liked, cared or even remember them. The dialogue and chemistry between almost every character is horrible in my opinion. Except for Abby and Lev. I honestly enjoyed their story together, other than that nothing really. I felt like I was forced/supposed to like them just because Ellie does, unlike in most of the first game where you see the progression of Joel and Ellie’s relationship. When Joel died (obviously I was very sad) but at the same time I was excited. I knew Joel was going to die due to the trailers barely showing Joel and every time I heard anything about it was about Ellie. But I have to admit I didn’t think he was going to die this quick. I really didn’t like the pacing of the story. They showed Abby as the “bad guy” for most of the game, while playing as a character you knew and loved for 7 years! And then they wanted you play as and sympathize Abby. This was alright to me at first because of course in the The Last of Us universe there are no “good guys” nor “bad guys”. But every minute passes and it was more boring to me. I didn’t enjoy playing as Abby at all. Especially how most of her story and the reason why she killed Joel was being played in flashbacks. Talking about flashbacks. I didn’t hate all flashbacks. Like how they used flashbacks to show you how Joel told Ellie what he has done, I enjoyed them. Quite honestly I enjoyed all of them. But Abby’s flashbacks not at all. I think if they let you play all of Abby’s flashbacks at the very beginning, before she kills Joel. I think that would have been somewhat better. Most characters death are forgotten, by the other characters even the players themselves I’ve noticed. Nora, Manny, Mel, and Owen, I don’t recall Abby nor Ellie bringing them up, maybe just once. But for characters that are supposed to be one of the “protagonist’s friend group” that’s really low. Secondly, the AI in this game I didn’t enjoy, I played the game on Hard, Medium, and Easy. The enemy’s difficulty barely changed, but the amount of resources and bullets did change within each difficulty. I’ve barely on all difficulties saw the enemy attack one of my allies. (Something the first game excels in by the way) and they always focused you no matter what. Sometimes the enemy AI locks and just hides even though you’re just sanding or running. (Yet again something the first game did brilliantly). Don’t know about humans but if you had the high ground near zombies, they’ll rarely get up to you. And if they do, most of the time they fall down.

Thirdly, the gameplay is just as good as the first game. They added the dodging but it was very buggy for me and didn’t work as supposed to. Fourthly, glitches in the game was something common in the game. A random burst wrong colours were shown. I.e; A rusted grey drawer that magically has a very bright white lower drawer. Same thing with desks, beds, even garages. And sometimes a dark blue or black square of grass that’s surrounded by green grass. I also randomly got out of the map twice. Finally, some positives about the game is quite obviously, the graphics, they sometimes made me forget how much I hated the story. I liked the realistic physics in the game. Most voice actors were fantastic. All in all, if you enjoyed the game, good for you. And I’m really happy that you wasted your time on a game you liked. And I’m not saying that you’re completely wrong and I’m 100% correct. I’m just stating what I felt while playing the game and hope that you understand why I didn’t enjoy the game. I didn’t dislike it because I’m following other people hating on it. I came into the game neutral. And I didn’t enjoy it at all.

I’d honestly give it somewhere between 2.7 and 3.3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Visually The Last of Us Part II is beautiful and the music is just amazing. Gameplay is similar to the first one, not bad, but not the best. The story however is a revenge plot that is extremely poorly executed. They completely ripped apart everything that the first game had built up and definitely did not do right by Joel and Ellie as they said they were going to. Joel gets killed very early in a very dumb way and Ellie loses everything. The new characters are not fleshed out enough and most are forgettable. You play as Abby for half the game and I found her very unlikeable even as they show her past to get you to sympathize with her. The ten hours of gameplay with her just seemed to drag on. I found the flashbacks of Joel and Ellie to be the best part of the game and I really enjoyed them, but unfortunately those were short and few. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finished the game four days ago and since then I've been so sad.

It is heartbreaking to see your most loved videogame destroyed like this.

    - I did not hate the game because of LGBT agenda ->actually I am left-wing and I secretly liked that so many homophobic gamers had to face with these topics (and hopefully they get more comprehensive). So I would keep it exactly as it was.
    - I did not hate the game because Joel died. Come on, Joel dying was the only motivation strong enough to make Ellie pursue revenge, so from first trailer when we found out that the sequel was about revenge, we all knew already that Joel would have died to make this credible -> so no big deal

I hated the game because the story is pointless, weak, not credible.
Such a complex universe, in which you can talk about love vs. ethics, cure to the humanity, self improvement, so many things, you focus your game on revenge? Just a pure revenge without any revelation in the path? It was so funny that in Every scene I was making so many theories, expecting a creative plot from naughty dog like:
-Tommy never left Jackson and Maria was kind of a villain, that wrote that fake letter to instigate Ellie to go for revenge and leave Tommy with her
    - The godness of Seraphite was actually people adoring an utopic old version of "Ellie, the immune woman" and she would find out it later after many died on her name
    - Jessie "the super popular guy" was actually working with Abby and helping her since the beginning - Ellie left JJ and Dina for what we think that was a revenge, but actually she wanted to offer herself to Abby so she could be taken to a hospital and finally die for the sake of a vaccine

Hahahah Of course, all of this seem crazy now. But it was just me expecting/hoping for ANY kind of plot twist or revelation( like the one we have at the end of Uncharted 4) but no. The plot was so linear, simple, idiot, that it never happened.

It was just about killing our preferred character (I'm ok with the death, but not ok with non- meaningful way it happened), going for revenge, can't get it and come back home with family. Then a coward adult goes to ask cruelly a young woman to abandon her family and goes all by herself on revenge, oh just because "you promised". Then she goes (this decision of abandoning family by themselves in an apocalyptical world which is not credible), finds Abby but at the end forgives her because she learns that "revenge is not good". That is ridiculous.
So many points that this story could have developed... Part 1 was so deep, so complex, so human and they just destroyed everything. Ok, gameplay nice, graphics really good (actually I found Uncharted 4 way more pretty in facial details and scenario), ok with all of this. But this is a story driven game and story must be the central part of it, you can't deny that. And the plot is just horrible.

I wish they never had done this videogame. I am so so sad. A bad type of sad. Because when I finished Arthur's part in Rdr2, I was also extremely sad for Arthur but sad in a good way, in a magic way. In the last of us 2, I am sad in a bad way, disappointed, upset because I can't believe how they ruined the story, characters, universe, the franchise.

    Oh my God. Really.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I remember being excited for this game when it was announced at e3 years ago. When the delays happened I kept telling myself don’t worry they’re just making sure everything is perfect I trust them to have it. I was so wrong. There was lots of weird bugs in my play through like fighting against invisible clickers or falling through the map. I can’t believe that would occur for something delayed so much. Gameplay, graphics, and music were all great as you’d expect from a Last of Us game. After seeing the death of Joel and just seeing the ending I couldn’t believe that after all Abby put Ellie through and all Ellie did to people, was all a waste. It made me think what if Ellie was killed by Abby? Would Joel just let Abby go? I doubt it . Honestly Ellie’s character was so irritating in this game. I like to think that the Ellie from the first game isn’t the same as this one . This is such bad writing ! REVENGE BAD ! Sounds like the answer to the question : what the theme of the book you read? From a freshman who didn’t actually read the book but just wanted to say some basic barebones theme and hope it’s right. I am glad I gameshared this one . Pure trash. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has amazing graphics, mechanics, and scenarios, and up until the end of Seattle day 3 I had this game at 10/10. I didn’t realize Naughty Dog was going to make us play as Joel’s torturer for half the game. When I first played as Abby, I thought it was just going to be a quick flashback, and I was thinking to myself “oh cool, these guns will be a part of Ellie’s inventory once it gets back to the main story and I finally kill Abby as Ellie”. First impressions are crucial in my opinion, and the second Abby and her group takes a golf club and beats Joel to death in front of his brother and Ellie, right after they saved Abby from the infected mob, I wanted Abby and her group dead. So I was very disappointed to find out the 2nd half of the game forced me to play as someone I wanted dead. I understand Naughty Dog is trying to have me sympathize with her, but there was nothing she could do to redeem herself, and I honestly didn’t care about her backstory or friends (most of which have already been killed by Ellie during the first half of the game). I had to force myself to trudge through her story, it’s unfortunate too because there were good encounters with the bloater-esque mini boss in the hospital parking garage, and Yara & Lev had a good story. The ending is also very disappointing because poor Ellie is still suffering from PTSD and seeing Joel’s bashed in head, which leads to her tracking down Abby and Lev who were captured by a gang in Santa Barbara. So after Ellie kills every gang member and frees all the prisoners, she finds Abby and Lev tied up on posts by the beach, she cuts them down and they walk to some boats to escape. In the process of escaping, Ellie has a flashback of Joel’s bashed in head again, and challenges Abby to a fight, she doesn’t use anything from her bag of weapons to just kill her, but instead wants to have a “fair” fight with Abby, but she still uses her knife for some reason. After losing two fingers, Ellie gains the upper hand and is in the process of drowning Abby until she has a flashback of Joel except this time it’s a positive flashback, so she lets Abby go and escape with Lev. I understand Naughty Dog is trying to push growth and maybe forgiveness, but Ellie left her girlfriend(wife?) and child for this, she comes home to and empty house, 8 fingers and a guitar from Joel she can no longer play. I’d like to imagine if Ellie was killed, Joel would scorch the earth for her, it’s disappointing that there was no choice to avenge him, and at the last second a flashback where she planned on working towards forgiving Joel stopped her from killing the one person who kept that from happening. Again maybe not everyone shares that feeling, but a choice would have been nice. Another complaint I have about the story is why does Joel still go by his whole full name when he knows he is wanted by any former fireflies from the previous game, let alone give his full name and camp location to a group of armed strangers. I feel like this game tried too hard to get the player to dislike Joel or at least sympathize with the fireflies more. I was disappointed Joel didn’t explain to Ellie the whole situation with the events of the first game at the fireflies hospital in salt lake, because if he did, Ellie would have probably been more receptive to his reasons at saving her, and how the fireflies broke the deal with Joel, and his “payment” for delivering Ellie was getting knocked out, having his possessions stolen and being marched out at gunpoint. So yes my opinion is very biased against a very incompetent Firefly organization, but only because the first game had done such a great job at painting the picture of them. TLDR: Not a fan when I’m forced to play half of the game as a character that kills a favorite character in the first few minutes. Even less of a fan that the daughter of the deceased character never gets revenge on the killer/torturer and she loses her family and two fingers in the process, poor Ellie didn’t deserve that. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I first saw the First teaser trailer for the last of us part 2 I was under the impression that Ellie was of course enraged with a group, and she was going to get revenge with Joel trying to talk her out of it. The next few trailers later it still shows Joel and Ellie giving hints about the story being about revenge. One trailer showed Abby, which no one ever would’ve guessed she was going to be a playable character and would be a nuisance to the entire game. I bought the game and played it with an open mind, not with a “closed” one according to Neil cuckmens little remark. I was of course under the impression Joel would join Ellie as the companion this time as you play as Ellie because of said trailers. Of course 2 hours in you’re swapping between both Ellie and Abby. Which was already starting to become a stupid idea. A brand new character that we know nothing about is playable within the first hour. I didn’t think much of it until 2 hours in. Abby kills Joel and doesn’t show the reason why at all. After his death I didn’t feel sad in the slightest. I felt annoyed at the fact Joel doesn’t even appear in the game unless it’s flashbacks, which is stupid. Instead of making Ellie’s story so mixed up and just making her have flashbacks with memories of Joel and having to go back and forward with Abby and Ellie, why couldn’t be start the game off arriving at Jackson with Ellie? It would’ve made the game a lot better, it would’ve given Joel a lot more time to be in the game, and it would’ve actually gotten a way better score. Finish the game with Ellie’s story and unlock abbys after, or make a dlc for abbys side of the story. But no, we get to play 10-12 hours with someone we already don’t like, that we have to learn why they had to end Joel and naughty dog really think ya we’d be attached to characters with no kind of development behind them. We have your average Mexican character that is forced to have an accent which is really generic and pretty racist because believe it or not, not every Hispanic has an accent after years of living in the US, then we have the generic love triangle, not to mention on both sides of the story, both Ellie and Abby are in one. No one hates the game because Ellie is gay, everyone who played the first knows that she’s into girls, I love Ellie for the character development. That’s the reason everyone felt close to both of these characters both Ellie and Joel, because of the journey they took together. No one cares about a group of people who you learn about in under 12 hours. The last of us took me far longer to beat than part 2, this game was complete **** because of how lazy naughty was and how much they could’ve done and added but didn’t because Neil has his head too far up his ass to even make the characters have common sense. Last time I checked Joel did not trust a stranger, like the “hurt” hunter from the first game. Since when did he go so soft? The fact that we know so little about both Jesse and Dina and they want us to feel any kind of bond with them. I saw Jesse getting his face blown off and literally wasn’t fazed by it that’s how **** the development was, we knew nothing about Jesse. Just that him and Dina dated and he was friends with Ellie. Unlike Sam and henry from the first, you actually knew they were by themselves and you saw how much Henry did for his little brother. And in the end Sam turns and Henry kills himself. What did we know at all about Owen and Mel other than they were going to have a baby? What did we know about any other one of abbys friends other than they were her friends? How do they expect us to like them when we don’t even know anything about them and we already killed them before we learned what they were like, and it’s not like we were given an actual choice like a TellTales game. This games mechanics are like the first but with minor upgrades, which for me isn’t a problem, I got this game wanting a story close to the 1st but since the first trailer I knew it was unlikely but I was expecting to play as Ellie and only as Ellie but we couldn’t even get that. AND NO I DONT LIKE THE GAME BECAUSE IM A “homophobe” or “transphobic” or because I’m playing with a lesbian female. I hate the game because the way they organized the story and the fact we were forced to swap with a completely new character that I hated within the first 2 hours. Flashbacks should’ve been played first so they wouldn’t be flashbacks, literally they were so **** pointless, Ellie just goes through something the screen goes dark and literally what just happened to her does not relate at all to her flashbacks of Joel. I hope naughty dog learns from this. And if they plan on making a 3rd they shouldn’t use Ellie anymore because they’ll only make another crap story Expand

Pues no... O a Ellie.. O...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am truly disgusted by the last of us 2, not because Ellie is a part of the LGBT or any other nonsense. It's because of how sony published the trailer with Joel in it and saying "You think I'd let you do this on your OWN?" this game just scammed me. I stayed away from the spoilers and I thought it will be the best game I will ever play. But like 1 hour and 30 minutes into the game and Joel died. I felt sad and mad. Especially at Abby so well done Naughty dog for that but just why? Why Joel so goddamn fast? I didn't wait 7 years just some buffed ugly hoe to kill my favourite character and the main character of the last of us. But I didn't stop playing and went into Seattle to get revenge. Many people like jacksepticeye said it isn't worth it. But me and most of the community plus Pewdiepie we wanted revenge so badly. So good job Naughty dog for that one too, you actually made me play the game just so I get revenge on Abby. Guess what? You first have to kill most of her friends just to get to her. It still didn't made me soft on Abby. So fast fowarding a bit when you kill mel which is pregnent. You get home to the cinema and have a good day with Jesse and Tommy. I was actually kind of happy because they reuinited but still in shock that Ellie just killed a pregnent lady. I mean self-defence but still. Tommy then goes outside of the room and then gets down on the floor. You hear something in the other room and you fastly try to run to the door to check what's happening. You immediately go inside and Jesse gets shot into the head. And see Abby that **** **** hurting Tommy. She says throw your gun away while pointing at Tommy. After that, she points at you looking like she killed Ellie. So you get furious that she killed Jesse and might actually even killed Ellie, so another point for Naughty because they wanted you to feel that way. Then -10000 points for Naughy because it's making you play as **** Abby for 10 hours. At this part, I was so unbothered but I still went into the adventure. Just to empathize for Abby and see Ellie is actually the bad guy. Basically she justs saves a Zebra and some scars members because apparently the other one was trans and cut her hair off but it was against the rules for women to cut their own hair off but whatever. They actually save you first but then you save them after like a day of **** WITH OWEN. Like what in the actual **** I ain't watching some women getting ****ed while having pecs. Jk. Anyways she saves them blah blah blah. and Yara one of the sisters that Abby saved had her arm destroyed by some buff guy from the scars. So you try to help them and give them a secure safe home with Owen and Mel. You find out that you have to chop her arm off or she will get sick and probably die but you don't have the right tools so you have to travel to the hotel on some bridges built by the scars which were pretty cool. Then they find out that you escaped trying to find Owen because he killed a friend of yours and his. But apparently you weren't allowed by Issac. So you get locked up but a friend of yours which is still alive decides to release you. The worst part is you have to go into the zone where the first of the first people got the virus. So obviously there will be a part of the infection you never have seen before. A giant zombie boss that has been composed of multiple infected. Honestly scary to see in real life but in a video game for me personally it was actually cool looking. You kill it and honestly. Best part of the game over there. You get back to Lev and go back. She got her arm removed and it was nice for a while but then Lev wanted to go back on the island that the scars took over, where their mother was. So you must follow her, but at the same time, the WLF is attacking. Lev kills the mother because the mother was 100% crazy and didn't agree with Lev. After you get Lev Issac comes out of nowhere and just kills Yara, obviously Lev was sad but had to go on. You escape the island and go back to the home where Mel got killed and Owen, You find a map of where Ellie is located and confront her. Then YOU **** HAVE TO FIGHT WITH ELLIE. LIKE SERIOUSLY, this part made me so mad. And she even actually **** wins but lets Ellie alive. So after like 1 year, I think it wasn't mentioned anywhere. Dina's baby is born and you have a cute house in the countryside. Then Tommy comes and tells you about Abby and Lev which made me mad that even Tommy asked Ellie that such a thing when she even had a family. Dina shuts him off and he leaves. So while sleeping you get nightmares of Joel. She decides to go to kill Abby which I actually kind of understand. She had nightmares of Joel and to be honest what would you do in the same situation just keep on living having nightmares of your "dad" or make justice for him. Obvs I was kind of happy but for Ellie not really, she had a family. Abby was looking for the fireflies. But got captured and Ellie asked to fight and not just shoot her. 5000Max Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a sad day considering I loved The Last of Us so much. A genuinely amazing story, with fantastic gameplay, interesting characters, and a terrifying setting that you must constantly fight through. The final decision Joel had to make was powerful and impactful. This sequel is not that.

If I were rating this as a stand alone game completely disregarding any premise of story prior, and not experiencing the gameplay of The Last of Us, it would probably be a solid 5 or 6 out of 10. The problem is that this story feels like it completely derails the story the first game had. When we finished the first game we saved Ellie, and lied to her about the fireflies. This could have been a great way to build up the second game. We could have had the two search for a cure themselves, and if the writers wanted Joel to die it could have come at the end of the game or near the end of the game. Ellie could have found out that Joel had lied about the fireflies, Abby could have been in a group of fireflies that heard about Ellie, and hunted Joel down. Ellie and Joel have a big fight, and they split up only for Ellie to hear gunfire, and find Joel dying at the hands of Abby. Then, Ellie has to fight and come to terms with the fact that she cared deeply for Joel, but his lying and protection of herself jeopardizes the fate of the world. Something along those lines could have been fantastic and very well executed. We could have played the parts as Abby prior to this to build up her character and motivations for doing what she does. It could have been an amazing sequel to an already amazing game.

We didn't get that though. We got a sloppy, poorly executed story. Joel dies very, very early on. We have no build up for this Abby character, and then are expected to play as her? That is insanity. Why in gods name would I want to play as a character who just killed an incredibly beloved character? This could have been circumvented so easily if the game had you play as Abby in the beginning and turn her into a character we cared about as well, but it doesn't. Instead we get a horrible impression of her immediately, have to suffer through playing as her, which then feels like a chore because we already dislike her, and then we are expected to believe Ellie just forgives her in the end. It's sloppy. It's not a good story. It doesn't captivate me. It made me frustrated to even play the game.

Now I'm very critical of stories in games, because it's the main reason I'm playing them. The gameplay was still good, but it felt very lazy because it was like a copy and paste of the first game's gameplay. While it's not a bad thing considering I already spending 50+ hours on the last of us, spending more time doing the exact same stuff starts to feel tedious and boring. I wish they did more to change up or add some new interesting mechanics to spice it up a bit. It really could have turned this review into at least a 5/10 if the gameplay was able to bring more enjoyment to the game itself. The graphics and sound design were beautiful, it's just too bad that graphics and sound design don't mean anything if your game isn't up to snuff.

This game is difficult, not only to rate but to get through in general, the gameplay along with the animations are 10/10 and the pinnacle of the industry. The story however is where it immensely falls off, it’s not necessarily hot garbage but it’s pretty damn close. To take the characters we love and spent a whole game with and treat them like this is one of the most pointless and colossal **** ups I've ever seen. You could have taken it in any other possible direction and it would have been better than what we got. I didn’t even want to finish this game I had no drive no motivation and still don’t understand how you expected to introduce new characters have them kill our old characters then force us to play over half the game as them. It was a struggle to get through and I have no intentions of playing it again Expand

To begin on a positive, the game play, animation, voice acting and virtually every element of game design within this game were absolutely flawless & like nothing I’ve seen in a game before, for that alone the game is worth playing. However, the games major issues are in its story & script writing. To say it’s weak is being generous. There were glaring plot holes & poor choices in writing throughout the games entirety. The game turned the dark, bitter sweet emotion of the first game, which centres on the father / daughter like relationship between Ellie and Joel ( that I personally consider to be one of the best written narratives of all time) & flushed it down the toilet within the first couple hours of the game, turning it into a social justice push, that thematically didn’t fit with the setting. (Not that I have any issues with social issues being present in games, just that it feels forced & unnatural) Outside of this, the games timeline is constantly jumping back and forth over a number of years, with no continuity, making it unnecessarily complicated & taking away from the immersion in the primary story arch. This also deters you from going out of your way to explore & gather materials to upgrade your arsenal, as the upgrades and weapons you gather don’t travers across time with you, making them for the most part relatively pointless. (Incredibly frustrating discovering a new weapon, to not have it accessible in your next gunfight because you’re at a different point in time) The game sets up smaller, somewhat interesting plot lines, that lead absolutely nowhere & have no resolution, which was painfully irritating, particularly after taking the time to find & read notes, that you have to go well out of your way to find, for them to lead to nothing. The characters motivations are just plain and simply ridiculous, they chop and change between their moral and ethical standpoints & it’s honestly just frustrating to play. The end game is incredibly underwhelming & leaves much to be desired, with no more conclusion than you have about 4 hours prior to the end. By all means play the game & discover the issues for yourself. There are some amazing moments to be had, but overall the fantastic game design, that I & many others have waited 7 years to relive, was dragged down by a lacklustre narrative that was derivative & without any clear direction; that after roughly 30 hours of game play has left me with my hands on my face asking “why?” & “what was the point?” Incredibly disappointed & frustrated. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

-Two lesbian teenagers with fragile emotions decide to go they alone against a full army for revenge.
-A lot of mercenary women, more than men, and surely equally paid.
-A trans kid victim of a religious cult.
-And lots of depressing feelings, etc..
imposible to get your mind into the story. First one was simple and worked well. They had to go from point A to point B to save humanity and had to defend themselves through the way. Violence was justified. They had no option. Characters were credible, you empathize, you get into the game. Simple. This sequel is just ridiculous. A great example of how to destroy a franchise. First, I was a bit bored - a novelty for a Naughty Dog title. Second, I was being forced into some kind of awful Top Trumps morality contest revenge drama - but why? We're in a setting where there is no rule of law, where all participants are wronged, damaged and at risk of sudden death - and where most have done despicable things to other humans. There are no saints in the fungal future, I thought that was made clear in the first game, so it feels odd for the new game to be some kind of weird standoff over who is the real villain on a dual/mutual revenge trail. (And that's not to mention the egregious plot holes driving the opening revenge narrative, the outrageous coincidences and character contradictions). So it gets draining to be pulled this way and that by the developers, tugging on my heart strings with all the subtlety that Ellie has with her iron bar...no, the first game was underpinned by hope and this one is all about anger and hate, there's no morality winner.

And the problem with anger and hate in a revenge drama is we know what's coming. Oh yep. It's death or forgiveness and you might as well cut to the chase and stop rummaging in drawers and crawling through gaps because we know the ending. But the writers/directors want to keep squeezing the juice out of the lemon, just a little more they say, let me go a bit further and it'll morph into a masterpiece. Maybe that's why so many revenge dramas are so long and take place over many years - Ethan questing through the seasons in The Searchers, Ahab roaming the oceans for his whale, The Bride hacking and hacking, more and more blood and anger. But you keep reading or watching those classics because the environments, the supporting characters, the main protagonist back stories, the great scope and vision of the wandering experience...they're all fresh and dazzling. All of those things are missing from this game if you've played the first round. We already know Ellie and Joel, we know the Ballardian environments, we know the gameplay, the factions are pretty similar to ones already encountered - all that's new is the revenger who is badly drawn, contradictory in values and not given a backstory until it's too late to bring the audience over.

I appreciate the writing ambition. I love some of the art design details - new players will marvel at the gameplay and settings. But the story arc is a rambling, creaking inchoate mess and I never feel that I get to know or understand the new character. But I feel that I understood Ellie and Joel from the first game, I know why Joel did what he did. I don't struggle with that. And I can't think of any reason why I'd want to replay any of the new game, I don't understand what the prize is, what it is that we have to gain.

I stand with Ellie and Joel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Big spoilers SPOILER ALERT. Joel dies Ellie chicken out at the end and so does Abby. You kill a lot of people hunting down Abby which means a lot of new enemies and families who will probably want revenge all to find and kill Abby. However at the end you don’t kill her I think it should have been a choice at the end were you could kill Abby or not. Me I would have killed her then restart from the last save point so that I could kill her again. But Abby is alive at the end you did not get justice for Joel. If you want to make a realistic game then do the realistic stuff in the apocalypse if someone kills your father or the man who was a father to you and you hunt them down and kill a lot of people on the way you don’t chicken out you kill them. As for Abby if you are going to make a character who will torture and kill you for killing someone who is important to her then have her be that way the whole time don’t change who they are. Her friends were killed and she just chickens out when she was about to kill Ellie and her girlfriend that is not the character I was shown in the beginning of the game. Another thing they dumped down Joel in the first game he was able to tell that it was an ambush and does not stop the truck but he can’t tell that something is off. If I was Joel no way would I tell someone my real name I just met them I would give people a fake name and change the fake name every so often they really don’t have pictures they new it was him because he said I’m Joel. Bottom line I was mad when they killed of Joel I did not feel attached to Ellie and did not really care if Ellie killed Abby or if Abby killed Ellie I just wanted the person I was playing was to kill the person who was trying to kill them I was not on ether side because I did not care if either one of them died. The game story did not keep my interest. In my opinion it is nowhere near the masterpiece that first game was. The combat is good and the groups are interesting one thing I will say is I like the crafting and how they do zombies in the most realistic way possible I think that the game is a winner how it plays and the world but the story is nowhere near as good as the first game. -Gameplay barely different to the first game, which was ok, but wasn't the biggest fan of it already then, exspected a bigger change and improvement
-Characters: in my opinion ruined the characters from the first game (Ellie & Joel) and added a new main character (Abby) nobody cares about
-Story: tries to force you onto Abby's story and changes your opinion of Ellie in a negative way; has so many unnecessary scenes especially in Abby's part, which will just lengthen the game; horrible pacing of the story overall and the switch between abby's and ellis's story could have been done in so many way better; a lot of loopholes and things that don't make sense
-ending: probably one of the worst i've seen in a long time

I let Abby die for Ellie, because there is no sense defeating the protagonist, but the game just did not allowed! Besides that, Ellie just take wrong decisions and let the map saying exactly where they are. And after Ellie killed everyone Abby loved, she just say "Do not come after me anymore".
I am so frustrated and disappointed with the poor story and I would not play a The Last of Us III.

I didn’t feel anything for the characters I hardly paid attention because I was in a rush to continue Ellie’s story and was forced to play as a wwe super star for 10 hours!!! That part really put it in the grave for me it was almost unbearable but I somehow did it, I already have some friends that deleted the game after finding that out.
If there is a 3rd installment I hope she wakes up and the whole thing was a nightmare because that’s what The Last Of Us part 2 is. And what ever game ND is making next don’t let Neil lead it i don’t want another **** story.
In conclusion don’t buy this it’s better if you just watch clips it’s not worth your time it’s better to forget this thing and move on I’m really glad this wasn’t a lunch title for the ps5.

The only reason I give this game any sort of rating is because I can see the effort put into the gameplay side of things. But nothing can make this game good because of how bad the story and characters are. Don't even start me on the Joel situation.
Whoever thought let's kill Joel with a female bodybuilder and play as her for half of the game is beyond me. Did you actually think we would bond with this person? The whole time I played as Abby all I could think was I can't wait to see Elle kill you. And did it happen... did it f***. And in the end it was all for nothing..... Well done

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This does not feel like a true sequel to the first game. They took characters that felt real and that people loved like they knew them personally and killed them like there is no tomorrow, make their motivations make no sense, as well as introducing new characters that are either hollow or infuriating. It is sad that the story is simply so wretched too, because there was obviously a lot of great effort put in by a lot of great artists here. Many of the levels are intense and fun to play through. The environments are great. The graphics are top-notch. We even get one exception to the terrible new characters, as Dina is quite a joy to be around.

Ultimately what kills this game can be attributed almost exclusively to Abby, and everything that revolves around her. She is an irredeemable character, killing a character that was beloved by millions, even wanting to kill a pregnant woman out of vengeance, knowing that she was pregnant. Aside from being pure evil, she is not very interesting, as when they do try to make show her light side, she is simply bland. The writing relies far too much on her backstory to try to give her character instead of actually giving her a real character. And this would not be so much of an issue if we did not have to play as her through a third of the game.

Given the muddled and confused moral, and the equally confusing narrative structure and pacing, we are left with an experience that feels not only incomplete, but ultimately leaves us in a dark, depressed state. One of the best words to describe this feeling is probably "robbed". I feel robbed of the characters I fell in love with. I feel robbed of the true sequel that the first game deserved. I feel robbed of the mood that the first game left me with, which was not one of pessimism, but of "endure and survive". With the feeling this game gives, I don't know what is there to fight for anymore.

The game play is basically the same at the first game and gets repetitive towards the end but that's expected from a game like this where the story is what keeps the players interested. If you were looking for an improvement in gameplay from the first game prepared to be disappointed. The only new features are a clunky jump with terrible animation, a dodge which forces dodging situations with an unstoppable attack action from enemies, and squeezing between tight spaces which is okay. Naughty Dog almost got rid of environmental puzzles completely which I personally didn’t like seeing as I enjoyed them in the first game. The narrative is where this game suffers the most. It’s your stereotypical revenge plot where someone important dies and the player has to go after the killer. The only issue is you don’t ACTUALLY get revenge and waste hours of gameplay trying to achieve that goal. In addition the game forces you to play as the main antagonist for hours at a time which is extremely boring and time consuming. Unlike the first game where there were moments of darkness followed by moments of light that allowed you to laugh and fall in love with the characters The Last Of Us Part 2 is lacking in that department. The game constantly beats you down and feels as if playing it is more like a chore than something you’d do for fun. The characters leave much to be desired as they are no where near as interesting as they are in the first game and feel very underdeveloped and bland. Even Ellie. Most cutscenes just leave you with thoughts like “Oh him?” “Ugh this is so long”. Unlike the first game where I was completely sucked into the game and couldn’t stop watching I found myself getting distracted very very easily by my phone or other things. Overall, the game is NOT worth buying or playing save your money and if you’re that desperate just watch a playthrough you won’t like it either way. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Buena la version de Take on me. Nota: 6/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the first game, so much that I have played through it multiple times and not once did I ever rush through it. I hoped that part 2 would have made me want to play though it at least a second time but sadly I doubt that I ever will. I avoided all the leaks so I had no inclination to be skeptical of purchasing it. Though I did watch the trailers which made be beyond hyped, as the original was perhaps one of my, if not favorite games. I was so excited to have another Joel and Ellie adventure. That was my main reason for getting the game. So I was shocked when I played, and in just around two hours of gameplay, they killed him off in such a disrespectful way. I was even more shocked when I realized that they replaced Joel's character model and line from one of the best moments in the trailers, with a character that, although enjoyable, paled in comparison. Not only that but they purposely swapped out old and young Joel models from the trailer, making many to believe he was going to be a core character that would accompany you throughout at least most of the game. To me this is false advertisement and purposely misleading the fans just to ensure they sold more copies of the game. Its not that Joel was killed off, its how he was killed off and how they tricked every one in the trailers. I honestly loved the gameplay mechanics, and graphics, but to me a game can have all the best graphics, gameplay, sound and world design, and if the story is ruined, that just loses me. Also, having to play as the main antagonist for so long, for one was boring to me and I just wanted to get it over with. I understand trying to show that there are two sides to every story, but players tend not to care when that character killed off such a beloved character, so it makes it hard to sympathize with her. I do not believe that this was a game worth waiting 7 years for. Especially when it ruins such beloved characters. I couldn't wait to finish it because of how dark and depressing the entire game was. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Instead of continuing with Ellie and Joel's story arc, they used Part II for generic messages about how war and revenge are wrong while ignoring the character development that was accomplished in the previous LoU.

The original characters were disrespected by the story writers and the characters decisions felt forced for a lazy revenge plot.
The plot that most players wanted to play through was reduced to 3-4 flashbacks.
Playing as Abby felt like a chore just to move forward in the story and fighting the original protagonist as Abby was appalling.

Removing a character's fingers to symbolize the loss of their last connection with another character because they can't play guitar anymore? A golf club being used as a symbol of the patriarchy? The story writing is so cringey it's a joke lol

I'm all for a game that supports LGBTQ+ but Naughty Dog using that to dismiss consumers negative reviews of the game due to issues only involving the story is the opposite of progressive.

I really liked the first game and this game does have a lot of improvements including the graphics, some gameplay, and the voice acting.

Don't make a Part III you've done enough to ruin the characters we loved in TLoU.

MajorMost people rating negatively are doing so because its not the story they wanted instead of evaluating the story for what it is, and what this story is....... is a narrative nightmare with a beginning that is rushed, a middle that is hollow and flat for Ellie's portion and disingenuous and emotionally manipulative for Abby's portion, and an ending that is not justified by the middle. Major story moments that would make the game great feel unearned and contrived for the sake of plot. Also, Ellie's much of portion is spent alone which made the experience dry.

Every single side character, besides Lev, is merely a slave to the plot. They are all replaceable plot devices that act only to serve the plot's message even if that means acting out of character. Lev is the only side character that directly affects and develops one of the main protagonists, Abby, while undergoing his own arc and being enjoyable in dialogue and gameplay (like hopping across the broken skyscrapers), and even he ends up doing by far the stupidest thing in the whole story even though he seems very intelligent.

The worst part about this game is the pacing. While the flashbacks are enjoyable for both characters, they are placed awkwardly in the story that diminish the content of the flashback while diminishing its contribution. Had these flashbacks not been flashbacks but rather been events shown in chronological order (besides Abby's motivations for doing what she did; this should've been shown at the "golf course" after she takes that first swing and the screen cuts to black) switching back and forth between Ellie and Abby, the story would've benefited as we could be shown the true motivations for both characters' vengeance and could understand and sympathize better with both beforehand. By making these scenes flashbacks, it created a huge disconnect between what the player knows and what the character we are playing as knows. The middle of the story (the Seattle portion) would have benefited from switching back and forth between the two at the end of each day in Seattle since the cut away from the climax of the story to Abby's portion was extremely jarring and felt unearned and forced. Also, long and drawn out combat sequences, especially for segments featuring infected, made much of the gameplay feel like filler. Just as a combat sequence was ending... more enemies would appear. Even if all the pacing issues were resolved in some way, the major story moments would still feel unearned and contrived.

Both Abby and Ellie's decisions at the end of the second act and at the end, respectively, feel unearned and forced for the sake of the plot's message. Little to nothing justifies these decisions, and its the main reason why this story is a complete disaster. Also, the boss fight at the end of the second act was the most disgusting and unearned boss fights in gaming history and to force the player to engage in it is unforgivable.

Overall, a bad story told extremely poorly and in a sloppy, messy manner featuring two unlikable protagonists, weak and forgettable (besides Lev) side characters, and an underutilized soundtrack as much of the game is spent without a companion for banter. If you know what misery feels like, do not play this game because this is literally a misery simulator with the only moments of happiness are poorly-timed flashbacks.

This is the worst story ever created by a triple A developer, regardless if it was a sequel or a stand-alone game.

I do not remember such massive deception from studios ever.
1st If we remember the first trailer The Last Of Us Part II | PSX 2016 Reveal | PS4 Pro (official Playstation Youtube channel) where Ellie sits and plays the guitar, and then Joel appears as a shadow (we see his image) well after this I personally and some other players were ready that Joel is/or will be dead. But how he will be killed was a question.
In The Last of Us Part II – Release Date Reveal Trailer | PS4 (official Playstation Youtube channel) we see a moment where Joel covers Ellie's mouth with his hand:
Ellie-What the hell are you doing here?
Joel-You think I'd let you do this on your own?
In game this moment is different:
Ellie-What the hell are you doing here?
Jesse-You think I'd let you do this on your own?
Druckmann played so rude, dishonorably on the feelings of players, fans of the first part.
    2nd
I don’t remember the politics of closing comments on official game trailers, official game posts, (I mean Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, Playstation, IGN) massively sent DMCA to authors, bloggers, editors on Youtube, Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, Twitch, Instagram etc.

Had a lot of fun with VATS mode, nice to see combat opened up for anyone, especially drunk people. Finished the game, thought about collecting all the artefacts, but chapter select is still broken (cut and paste glitch from the first game) so it's way too much hassle. Finishing the game was about as rewarding as a dropped ice cream.

I did enjoy taking selfies, my favourite was in the middle of a large pile of bodies. They all accidentally ended up there of course because the AI is still partying like it's 2013. Six trillion hours of development time spent on a rope VS me hiding behind a couch next to seven bodies and the guy in the police vest not being able to make the connection....

It's great to see people like me being portrayed in video games. I talk to myself a lot too. In the first game there was usually someone there to talk to, which was just unrealistic. Having large parts of this game being made up of one character on their own chuntering randomly to themselves really brought it home for me.

I think the high point of the game for me was the discovery of the option to auto collect. Suddenly my character was reaching out and realistically grabbing everything as I ran past. It's fantastic how far games have come with their capabilities. Obviously not as far as Paris Games Week 2017, I'm guessing that was footage from the PS5 remaster.

Out of all the PlayStation exclusives I'd say this one made me want to be an XBOX owner the most. Liked the game so much I'll probably buy the main characters collectors edition when it's released.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review contains spoilers. So I got the game early and played it. I read or saw no spoilers before the release. I never do.

So here is what I think:

    Pros:
    - gameplay
    - graphics
    - atmosphere
    - sound
    - music

All those parts are undeniable very good. Its top notch. Sure the controls sometimes feel weird but they do in most of the games. It would be unfair to say this game isnt up to date in terms of all those points I mentioned.

    Cons:
    - story
    - character design
    - character development
    - plot holes

So, even with all the pros this game is really really bad. It makes NO sense that Ellie act how she acts in certain parts of the game but that isnt even the biggest thing about why its bad.
    The reason is: character development.
If you kill one of the most beloved characters early in the game (Joel) and want to bring in new main playable characters like Abby, you HAVE to bring WAY more backstory in order to make the player feel with her.
    I mean she KILLED Joel!
How do you make the player like her? Bring more and more backstory before she does that. Let the players play 2-10h as Abby when she was a child or whatever. The backstory of her is basically told in 10minutes and then her dad is being killed. Thats it? And now I have to feel with her and understand why she killed Joel?
    Hell no!
That is weak story telling. Really really weak.

Then there are all the other new characters. Nobody is likeable. Like really. They all feel empty. They are only shells without any meaning.

This game is just bad. Do yourself a favor and dont buy it. The reviews the journalists wrote are either bought by Sony or ND or are heavily politicly influenced. Sad thing is: because of that same journalists will most likely make this game GOTY. What a joke.

Safe your money and buy something else.

And last but not least: this is technically a very good game but the story/characters is/are SO bad it just doesnt matter how well the rest is done.

You want a good revenge story? Watch "Oldboy" then you know how to make a good revenge story that shocks everybody to their core.

This game right here? Its garbage.

    1. you have to be brain dead to think that people had issues with lesbians, transgender or male characters dying. those who had this sort of issues are frustrated people that have literally no right to have an opinion in any point of view (not only this game), so they can keep their hate and beliefs to themselves.
i have been a fan of the first the last of us game since the release. i was too poor to get a ps3 so i had to wait to play it when i got my first ps4 (offering an amazing experience as a remastered product). When the last of us 2 came out, i tried my best to stay away from the spoilers and was pretty disappointed with everybody hating the game (for reasons i honestly didn't understand). So dodging any unofficial information as much as possible. In meantime i preordered the game and followed whatever official news i could find, everything getting me more and more hyped! I started praising this game everywhere i could... till the last 5 minutes of gameplay...
as we are living in an era where you don't play videogames just for the sake of doing it (like we did in the past), story plays a huge role in the gaming industry.
so, after playing the first game for like 3 times, i got into the last of us 2 with a pretty huge emotional baggage, hoping to hop into a new adventure with ellie and joel.
unfortunately that was not the case... grabbing the controller for the first 2 hours i fell in love with the world the game had to offer. was sad a bit i did not get to spend that much time with joel but i was ok with it... "its a big game, there's plenty of time...". till there's not...
i don't want to dive that much into the story so i will get here what naughty dog could've done and what i really hated about it.
    1. don't make joel and tommy act out of their character. they made them look STUPID. joel was the most cautious and smart character in game (his brother as well). are you going to tell me that they will go in a house full of strangers and they'll tell them their names in the first 10 seconds of their encounter??? no god damn way! that's trash writing there. how to fix it? make abby save joel's life. then he can be grateful for it and MAYBE, JUST MAYBE i can believe that he can blindly trust her and leave his guard down... or if you're leaving it like that, at least give abby a interior conflict. like "joel saved my life, what if he's not a bad guy??". i was pissed about my favorite character dying, but i could understand the way things were going (or at least i thought i did).
    2. don't push abby down my throat for 10+ hours as a playable character after she murdered joel in that brutal manner. solution to this problem? kill joel later. use those nice flashbacks of ellie and joel at the beginning of the game and put them on the same time with abby's flashbacks (one at a time). this way you create a profound sense of loss for joel but in the same time create empathy for abby. because (and sorry for the language), i couldn't give a single **** about whatever you throw at me about abby after what she done. don't just throw flashbacks everywhere and expect people to understand that abby is human as well. WE KNOW THAT ALREADY NAUGHTY DOG.
    3. don't make me fight ellie with abby. nobody wanted that and people hated abby even more when she found out that dina was pregnant and she said "GOOD!" with a sick smile on her face! you try to humanize her but in the same time its obviously that she's a cold hearted murderer.
the thing i hated the most about the last of us 2 story. THE ENDING. all that propaganda about "revenge is bad" while murdering hundreds of people and having literally all your friends die shows up front how poorly written is this story.
for you as a real life person, put yourself in ellie's shoes with all the emotional, physical, psychical baggage and the ability to get that revenge on the person that killed the closest thing to a father (being forced to watch the entire brutal scene happen). please tell me you'd stay right in front of that person (after killing hundreds of people) and just say "i'm ending this here! leave! revenge is bad!".
the last of us 2 is dark, cruel and brutal. an ending with ellie "finding the light" out of nowhere is literally garbage. solution? make 2 endings and let people chose how they feel about it. (not that hard).
i know that there are people out here thinking that they smart for finding out the whole "secret meaning" of the game.
if the last of us 2 would've been a stand alone game, would've been awesome! being a sequel of the masterpiece the first game was, this game is an offense to everybody that loved the first game

The gameplay was fun at times (around 1/8th of the game), the AI were smarter than in the last game, and it is visually pleasing. So, I will rate it a 3 just for that alone. but... the story and the golf club just ruined it all. If I were to rate it on the story alone, it would get an honest 0. It wasn't the politics or social commentary that was in the game that ruined it for me. I just wish Joel was around a LOT more, and if we just had to play as Abby, play her in the beginning so you can actually get to sympathize with her instead of having her almost immediately murder a beloved character in her introduction. Did a child mess with the storyboard? Expand

To be brutally honest it was one of the worst stories i have experienced in gaming, the way they treat characters from the first game is disrespectful and brutal, the pacing is completely off and it feels like they are genuinely trying to make you either angry or sad all the way throughout the game, there is so much more i could say but that would involve spoiling the plot, the story is such a big factor in this franchise that no matter how good the gameplay and graphics are i cannot give this game a good score because i felt nothing but anger, disappointment, sadness and a feeling of emptiness at times.

The ending of this story also made the whole journey feel pointless and also left me feeling very unsatisfied, to me this game could have been one of the best of the generation, it feels like the design team pulled out their A game but the story team wanted to go a route which would divide players for the sake of being different but not only was this route definitely not one they should have taken but it was also implemented very poorly indeed.

I waited a long time for this game and feel nothing but anger and disappointment from the game's story even though the combat was enjoyable and the graphics were nice to look at.... despite these two good points of the game i still couldn't fully appreciate them because of the story of the game.

I will also say it was nice to see naughty dog implement little hints of positivity towards the lgbtq community and also the inclusion of a trans character, i know some people believe this was forced a bit but i see it as a positive part of the game, it's just a shame that of all the games to do this it was one which ultimately released as a big disappointment to me and many others. i just wished this game could have had a story even half as good as the first one, then it would have been something special.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Naughty Dog handled this game in such a poor manner it's depressing. Misleading the public any way they can in order to trick people into playing a game they think they're going to get when instead the directors wanted to kill people's hope for a game building up over the past 7 years all to be edgy and tell a somehow unfinished revenge story that becomes far too convoluted and whimsical with it's potholes and clearly forced narratives. That sentence was too long, much like this game. The message that was supposed to be conveyed here is fairly easy to grasp. It's all about perspective and how someone is going to be a bad guy in another story; but it never actually comes full circle and the choices these beloved characters made don't flesh them out or further this message, they just go against reason to try and prove it. The character of... Abbie? Abby? I don't even care about her. Anyways, you can't just have a character kill off what has been building up for years and expect many players to go into the experience with a smile and an open mind. I'm sure everyone was happy to see Abby shot by Ellie when you fail the stealth sequence in the theater, I know I sure was. Just watch some youtube videos on how this game just completely dissolves in it's own bile. Also people don't dislike this game because it has two lesbians in it they dislike it because the characters suck (Besides Jesse, bless that man) and people feel manipulated @game critics who can't understand people have different opinions from them and AREN'T racist/bigoted. Thanks for nothing, upper management at Naughty Dog/game directors, just make another Jak and Daxter or something. Expand

Two aspects of this game are worth noting:
1- Technical: It is obvious that the developers did a lot of work under the hood to create incredible visuals, audio and controls. I can't find fault with the technical aspect of this game.

I've never seen such a blatant middle finger given to customers, and i've seen a few. To those dismissing this as "oh no, another homophobe because of the relationship", wrong. Gay male here.

The anti-male agenda is also very strong in this sequel. Guess what, I like men. They should not be just inneffectual cannon fodder.

This game still feels fun to play but the same can be said for games over a decade old so I don’t think that’s a big achievement. Various bugs that ruin the immersion which is basically the only thing this game has got going for it really. The graphics are good, it’s not super advanced graphics from older games on the system but more of a super polish and detail that makes the graphics stand out so much and give great immersions to it. The world is still super linear which is a bummer and a huge miss on ND’s part. The setup was there to search these outposts for information in an any order in an open world type of way which would have boosted the immersion of the this games world and just world exploration in general but instead the game keeps to being linear for story reason I guess? The story is pointless at best and a hot mess at worst. A personal revenge story is that last thing a fan would want for this game especially the way from the way it’s gone about the way it did. I believe what fans wanted to see the most was how the arguable bad decision Joel made at the end of the first game impacted the world in a plot that took a grander scale than what was shown in the game fans got and how the characters would try to fix this dangerous bloodthirsty world without a cure. As for the story we got I won’t go to into my points too in depth but on a rundown I can say most of the side characters were boring and had too much screen time, the main characters were out of character or were just also too boring to get attached to. The small talk when roaming is stupid. It’s like it’s trying to be uncharted but in that game it makes sense or even in the first TLOU it makes due to the way the characters aren’t absolutely at some of their worst times in their life it made sense for them for through out some casual words here and there. This game tries to be all brooding but then you get some causal dialogue from those brooding characters and it’s like a complete disconnect form the actual story. At last but not least the pacing and direction is all over the place. This could have easily been fixed if the game was like the first two hours all throughout the whole game where you hop back and forth between characters within reasonable time. Two problems fixed with one solution. I would rate this game lower if I took the marketing into consideration with the model swapping lie, the lighting changes and I think graphical changes(not sure about the graphics), and more realistic gameplay and enemy AI lies but there could have been limitation reasons for the latter two points(but not the deceiving model swapping) so I’ll subside my feelings to that. Over all this game is boring, dragged on, and had much lost potential. 3/10 Expand

Last of Us, however, is really about the story and it's the storytelling where everything falls apart in the sequel. I made excuse after excuse to myself while playing in a desperate attempt to love Last of Us 2 but there are critical plot holes surrounding key events that you really need to buy into. Worst of all, these could have easily been written much more convincingly without changing the quite controversial plot that likely would have gotten more players to appreciate the game.

The roughly 25 hour journey is mostly unpleasant, depressing, and decidedly not enjoyable. It seems like some people were moved by the moral but for many that point was obvious and insultingly clear from the start without giving the player any agency in what choices were made or how they played out. Last of Us 2 dragged everything I loved about the first game down with it, kicking and screaming. The story was needlessly clumsy and it's the player who pays in spades for this failure.

I wish I had never played this game, and for what little was done very well there is an ocean of failures that have me never wanting to revisit any game in this franchise.
