They killed the main character like he was dumb and useless, and suddenthly we have to play as his killer for 10 straight hours, and if that wasn't even enough we have also to beat the sh*t out of ellie while playing as abby. In the end ellie didn't even get to revenge on abby. Last thing when we only have ellie as a beloved character we see her losing dina and JJ and also she won't be able to play the guitar again , which was one thing that joel taught her to play. And to make things even worse she abbandon joel's gift in his house.i'll give a 3/10 because at least the music was good, the graphic was good and even the AI was really good Expand

For a game centralized around a story, compared to the prelude of the first game, I was VERY disappointed. I almost quit playing 3 hours in. The graphics are great, but I don't care about that. I played this for the story. The battle is ok, but not much refined, just easier than in the first game.

Then this company decided to destroy the interest in the story I had in the first game.

Then this company decided to destroy the interest in the story I had in the first game. I've never felt so shat in my face as to playing this. It's not just what happened, it's how utterly disrespectful and mean they were towards the main characters. Shells of their former selfs. I was disgusted.

I could never manage to finish it. Please, hire Anita Sarkeesian as an advisor for the story and characters again. Please tell me in beforehand so I know the entire game is propaganda for PC politics, instead of being a good game with a story I would feel gripped around.

I will never again buy a game to pay to be shat in my face.

The Last Of Us Part II has a subpar story with even worse gameplay. The story consists of a tired narrative of "revenge bad" while allowing the antagonist to get her revenge with little meaningful consequences. The gameplay is almost the exact same as in the first game. Which would be fine if it wasn't the worst part of the first game.

I'm Giving The Last Of Us Part II a 3 out of 10 due to being a playable if not a boring game

The graphics are amazing, but the thing that caught my eye about TLoU1 was the amazing story, - the relationship between Joel and Ellie, the character build-up and the way they don't act as "heroes", but they act human. (Joel, saving Ellie, even though it was selfish, it was human! We grew to love her and also didn't want to sacrifice her!) We waited so long for TLoU2 and we got this?! One of the most loveable characters, just killed with a golf club? Him, giving his identity to a stranger is way out of character! Totally not a way Joel would act! Then, we have to play as the same person that killed Joel, and we have to try and kill the character we grew to love SO MUCH? And you expect us to just feel good about playing as her and betray our favourite characters? In the first game, when the moment came, we didn't want to sacrifice Ellie. Why would we want to kill her now? Why would we want to play as the character that murdered the fan-favourite? You worked so hard and I recognize that. But we waited so long, had our hopes up for another story with our beloved characters - the duo, Joel and Ellie. Why did you think it would be a good idea to force us to play as Abby? I rate it a three, because of the graphics. I refuse to play. Expand

However that's it, all it gets are 3 points, it does feel like it tried to fill an agenda, and thus is doing so, it almost completely threw away what the 1st game built up, all that love and affection you had towards the main characters, it gets thrown away, played with, plus they also lied about not having to kill the dogs, and most of all, in the previous trailers, they made it seem like you could play as Joel/ that Joel would be alive for most of the game, but nope, killed him off in a stupid way, they completely made him dumb, in the first game, he ran over someone to be cautious, because he didn't know if that person was actually hurt, so to not take any chances, he ran them over.
So to just be that careless, and just die like that?
It enraged me, it made me close out the game.

I wanted to like this but its so polarizing that to do that i would have to dislike the characters and story of the 1st game and that's what i loved so much about it so it didn't work for me. Far too long spent playing as characters i'm not interested in and such obviously forced attempts to try to get me to sympathize with an unlikable character that it just came across as lazily written. The game does look stunning though and i feel a lot of effort was made but that story........it just spoils it so badly and the pacing is terrible. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A painfully honest take from someone who loved the first game and went into the sequel knowing the leaks but was willing to give it a chance: The more you care about/like the first game for its story and characters, the less I can recommend the sequel to you.

The good: The graphics and natural feeling of the environments are simply incredible. The music is also great and I liked the use of the guitar throughout. The attention to detail when customizing your guns and how your character's expression changes when doing a takedown really helped immerse me.

Unfortunately, it was not a world I wanted to be immersed in. While most of my issues with the game stem from its story and characters, I will briefly touch on the combat: it's fine. If you're looking for vast improvements from the first game I think you will be disappointed. The jump button rarely got used, and while the counter system and being able to go prone expands your possibilities in combat, I found myself getting bored with the lack of variety of enemies, both human and infected.

Now the story... The "revenge is bad" narrative gets hammered into your head throughout the entire game, but the writing feels all over the place. The heavy use of flashbacks (excluding the fantastic ones with Joel and Ellie) is distracting and works especially against Abby. If we were given insight into her past earlier on and progressed through the story swapping between her and Ellie, I feel like her character would have come across as more fleshed out and perhaps even more likable.

Having to play as Abby for about 10 hours straight after knowing what she did to Joel and and Ellie was honestly torture. I just couldn't get myself to like her, and ended up hating her more than I expected after seeing how Joel saves her and Ellie spares her. If not killing Abby was "the right thing," why did I just spend all of that time killing countless people and losing the people Ellie cares about?

Simply put, I was really frustrated with the decisions of the characters and the entire story as a whole. If it was another game where story was less of a focus I would probably give it a higher score, but this is Joel and Ellie we're talking about.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m sorry but i **** hate this game , sure graphics are good (but you’d expect that from ND)

Combat is mediocre but outdated and just like the original , and I won’t go on about how disgusting and horrible the story is but long story short they completely ruined any potential this series had (despite the first game not needing a sequel) I honestly wouldn’t but this for full price , Abby is the most boring character EVER and Joel dies in the most anti climatic boring and disappointing ending , but then the ending is the most cliche and lazy “revenge is bad story” where Ellie **** kills hundreds of WLF , just to get her fingers bit off and just let Joel’s murder go and let’s her walk off ,that is the equivalent of John Wick murdering all of his dog’s murderer’s friends and gang members , just to let the person who actually killed his dog go , it is stupid , if your purely Here for decent combat and good graphics , sure waste you 60 dollars but if you expect anything remotely similar to the first game , definitely don’t buy it

They can’t give us an absolute masterpiece of a game (the first game) and Just make a mediocre game with a **** story , you have certain expectations to ,meet

And lastly , the Flashbacks of Joel and Ellie are genuinely the only good part of this story , the fact that a sequel has to depend so heavily on the previous game to be good is so disappointing

This game desperately tries to make you like a protagonist for hours upon hours. A child beating slave owner is more likeable after appearing for 5 minutes. In fact, this character is the only story element that is universally beloved. One of many examples that should tell you how broken this game's story is. Not just bad - broken.

I have never seen such incredible technical achievements so utterly squandered in a game.

The game's presentation is undoubtedly 10/10. It is one of the best looking games ever created. The gameplay can be fun but in my opinion does start to get old in a 30 hour game. At times it felt like a bit of a slog and I did find myself bored from time to time. Still, your mileage may vary and that is nowhere near bad enough to be damning. There are also a selection of brief but fantastic setpieces peppered throughout the game. That's the good.

In most other games, a bad story would not sink a game - but this is a Last of Us game, the sequel to one of the most highly praised game stories in history. The story of this game was marketed front and centre. It is the beating heart of the experience. Despite this, I never thought it would be possible for a story to ruin a game so utterly, thinking if it's OK to play, it's OK to play. And yet, here we are!

The dreadfully inept storytelling affects so much, from whether you care about the characters to the order in which sequences play out. It cannot be separated from the experience, it is embedded. The story is told as you play through the game - this is not a simple matter of playing through and skipping the cutscenes. That won't work.

The story is so broken, so miserable, so full of characters you end up not caring about, so irredeemably bleak while doing nothing to justify that bleakness, so determined to resort to transparent emotional parlour tricks to make you feel something - anything, so po-faced, contrived and nonsensical, it manages to destroy an entire franchise. Not a game - a franchise! People the world over were looking forward to this game. If Naughty Dog dare release a third game, it will not be met with anywhere near such universal anticipation.

I cannot speak for everyone of course, but by the time the game finally showed mercy and decided to end, all interest I had for any characters new or existing was completely obliterated. The eight deadly words are in full effect here - I don't care what happens to these people. If you know your wrestling, Last of Us Part 2 is the gaming embodiment of X-Pac heat.

The dismal failure that is this game's attempt at a story cannot be done justice here. There is so much to unpack that to truly explain the cavernous and profound depths of its failure would require a video review of an hour or more. In time, I imagine there will be many. The intention of this game is to leave you feeling miserable and you will - but not in the way the writers intended.

It is a black hole of joy, a disconsolate abomination of a story experience that will oppressively crush any positivity you once held as if impending doom were a physical thing, a sickeningly thick smog of hopelessness that takes hold and will not let go. It chokes the spirit. It does nothing to make all this worthwhile.

History will not be kind to this game, many who purchase it won't be either. Buyer beware.
But hey, it looks really nice. Credit to everyone who worked on this game, bar the writers/directors!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Seriously don't play this game if you have any mental health issues as it will most likely trigger you. Soo reading and watching a lot of reviews, and also playing the game to the end my thoughts and feelings for this game is definitely mixed especially playing abi after she kills two characters. I loved the gameplay and graphics. Loved the cutscenes and more so loved the emotion behind ellies character. But as soon as you play abi, oh damn I hated it and I just wanted to stop playing but I forced myself despite hating and "accidentally" killing myself as her a few times lol. I got to the point where there was a flashback for Abi with her father ad the one where she rushed in to the room where Joel kills her father I immediately took an understanding as to why she killed Joel. But here's the thing I felt forced emotionally to feel sympathy for her and why she did the things she did. So I kept playing having a sense of enjoyment but still a load of hate for this one character. The whole story is about revenge obviously. But starting to actually look at it as revenge story for both Ellie and abi. Overall there is three key parts in the game that I really had a distaste for. One was Ellie killing the dog (fair enough I killed a lot of dogs in this game, sorta reminds me of old tomb raider ps1/2 days) but the one dog the games legit gets you a emotional connection with. Then second is when you beat Ellie almost to death and then almost kill dina. Ohhh why did it force me to go through this trauma. I just really agonised over this for a few hours. Then thirdly the farm seen with jj and dina and Ellie living happily ever after or not for Ellie ptsd destroyed Ellie and it throws you into an emotional whirlwind and makes you think crap this feels like an ending that I really don't want to see. But thankfully the story goes on for another 1/2hour but it felt rushed like seriously rushed. I had the same feeling with ff15 ending. I get why she left abi alive but I also felt empty at this point. And felt so much mental and emotional damage at this point for both characters I didn't even wanna fight. Now I actually love the game but I have so much mixed and **** up feelings for it. And putting myself into both ellies and abis shoes I understood why they both did or didn't do the things they did. This game gives me a whole feeling of walking dead vibe when neegan is first introduced, you hate the mother **** for killing peeps but then at certain points the show tries to make you love him (tbf I really do love neegan) but that's the feeling I get that naughty dog tried to do with the whole abi revenge plot but it sorta fails in a way because it makes you feel forced to show sympathy. I can't give it a low score or a high score but I really do love this game to an extent that sorta brushes off abi killing Joel but it makes it hard when she almost kills Ellie and dina. I really wouldn't recommend this game if you suffer from mental health issues because it would trigger you to high hell but I also recommend it to peeps because it's actually a good game just a few parts that damages you Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The 7 year wait was to see the development of Joel and Ellie's relationship, their continued journey, the battle against the infection and the revelation behind Ellie's discovery of Joel's actions surrounding the fireflies, was half the reason I expressed interest in this game. The other half was due to the TRAILER, depicting the interactions of Ellie and Joel throughout Part 2, of which, was later found to be MISLEADING, UNTRISTWORTHY and a blatant MARKETING SCHEME to feed off the following of Part 1.

There are redeeming qualities to this game, lovers of the original gameplay mechanics will find them more refined and responsive, the graphics are astounding (as to be expected with any AAA game in this day and age) and the suspense/ shock factor is real with every encounter, be they human or infected.

But, the attention to the story felt lackluster, like the Devs had a checklist of current worldwide issues they HAD to cover. They focused on promoting LGBTQ (in keeping with Ellie from TLOU1) but also proceeded to vomit other cultural references such as:
Identity struggles (Lev, who despite a pressing global infection, managed to weasel in a gender identity issue - talk about priorities),
and also, Trans inferences (whereby Abby with her lack of emotion, boasts a steroid physique akin to an absolute Chad. Given there is 0 censorship on her scene with Owen where they quite literally "Bump Uglies" it can only be assumed Sony views her as a he, contradictory to Druckman, who again - must have been ticking a box)
It felt like the game was being catered to every audience, BUT the Fans. That way, when diehard Fans rallied with disappointment, other game critiques and reviewers would sing praise, simply because the game "attempted" to tackle real world issues within a modern context, and then actively look to silence "The Rest of Us".

The second part was a Trainwreck (and the Devs knew it, since they informed early access players/ reviewers NOT to mention the second half of the game) What the first game did so well was establish motive for Joel, witnessing the loss of his daughter at the start of the game and coming full circle at the end when he chooses Ellie, his surrogate daughter, over the fate of the world (of which was responsible for taking child) we understood him, his grief and the decision he made and we were content with the climax of the game. TLOU2 attempts to achieve this relatability with a secondary character (Abby) in about 10 hours, since she has an NPC dad who loves animals, who loves his daughter, and was a firefly who died at the hands of a man unwilling to sacrifice a child, we're meant to feel connected to her? And if none of those factors made her as "relatable" as Joel, they also give her a sidekick, Lev, of which, during the course of the game I found myself verbally exclaim "why the **** am I looking for this kid that I couldn't care less about?" The entire time playing her I was waiting to swap back to Ellie so I could wipe the smug look off her face, and that final battle, the suspenseful Death Stranding-esc showdown!? That was the ultimate blueballs in the end. Had the ending been a character based decision, (press X to) "Drown the **** or (press ∆ to) "let her sail away happily ever after" I'd have left her on the ocean floor every time.

I've seen the game regarded the Gaming equivalent of GoT Season 8, and the more you look into it, the more the parallels can be drawn:
Started off great (Part 1 was amazing, then went "down the pan")
Character threads lacking fulfillment (Joel and Ellie's relationship explored only in "Flashbacks")
Character development abandoned (Joel's scepticism of the world and people is abandoned just so Abby can take him for a round of Golf)
Downright disappointing ending (Abby ****s off to Neverland while Ellie returns to nothing)
Seemingly incompetent writers (who butchered everything they achieved in Part 1 simply to achieve some semblance of a "SHOCK" factor)

There is a petition on Change.org regarding the game, may this petition get traction and the game be changed for the better. Although, any press is good press right? so our anger as cheated consumers (MISLEADING TRAILER), will more than likely be ignored in favour of promoting how the game "Subverts Expectations" (if that's what they call **** all over your fans these days)

I hope Cyberpunk2077 destroys this game, of which gameplay reviews sound promising

And may there never be a Part 3

    Amen

I recommend this game to folks who like in-depth gore systems if they can stomach the horrible storytelling. Gameplay is serviceable but nothing extraordinary.

It feels as though Naughty Dog has let me down. I've been a fan of their work for years. But this game has a poor narrative, kills of beloved characters, and leaves you with an empty feeling inside. They sacrificed a great game story for cheap shock value and it has ruined this game. What a shame.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As the fun of the first game, I realize that TLOU games are plot-driven. In the sequel, Neil Druckmann made revenge and retribution main themes of the game. However, notion that violence begets only further violence isn't groundbreaking in storytelling. It corresponds to Druckmann's writing style: "simple story, complex characters". In spite of this, I believe that there are only two well written personages, whose goals and motivation are perfectly explained: Abby and Tommy. It's hard to compare Yara and Lev to Sam and Henry, since the first pair has got far more screen time. As for the rest of the characters, such as Dina, Jesse, Owen, Mel, Manny and Nora I didn't feel a lot of emotional investment in them. Nevertheless, as far as I am concerned, the biggest drawback of the sequel is its plot. I want to highlight two moments, which were the most controversial for me. The first one is the ambush in the hotel, where Abby told Ellie that WLF let her and Tommy live and they "wasted it", because this duo killed Abby's friends. However, this scene is built on the false premise: Ellie asked all of the aforementioned people to tell her Abby's location and everyone refused and tried to kill her instead. The second plot twist that devastated me was final fight between Abby and Ellie. The fact that Ellie forgives her enemy and allows her to escape was supposed to show Ellie's character growth, it meant to be a parallel to her attempt to forgive Joel and also she saw Abby as the last protector of Lev, whereas the same could be applied to her and Joel in the first game. Whilst I think that it's a wonderful idea, it diminishes the values of nearly a hundred individuals Ellie killed on her revenge quest. The vast majority of these people were not directly related to Joel's execution, but they paid with their lives. On the other hand, the person, who organized this operation is shown mercy. In my opinion there are two ways to faithfully deliver following idea. Firstly, allow Ellie to eliminate Abby and Lev, then show that now she is hunted by Lev's death too and Dina abandons her. In this scenario, Ellie will have her revenge, but there will be no satisfaction from it. Furthermore, she will be alone and the audience knows it's her greatest fear. Second option is to let Ellie live in the farm with Dina nurturing JJ, yet she still suffers from PTSD and has to struggle to live peacefully, since Ellie is afraid that sooner or later the violence will erupt again. God ive noticed a lot of people online coping hard trying to like TLOU II and defending that terrible story, that´s some top tier post-purchase rationalization, i mean i get it, you invest time and/or money so your brain tries to like it, and if you like the game that´s fine, i desperately tried to like GOT S8 as well and i defended it for a bit, but later on i was made aware of all the plotholes, inconsistencies, abandoned plotlines, de-construction of characters and non sensical decisions and ending of story arcs that undid eveything that led the characters up to that point, exactly like TLOU II story, "subverting your expectations" is a fancy way to say dissapointment and is great way for lazy/bad writers to hide all of those problems i mentioned, if you like to be miserable and play through a movie with a bad revenge plot thats been done way better a million times before, especially bad because you dont even get revenge, only the antagonist that they so desperately want you to empathize with gets revenge,
    then go ahead.
But at least try to listen to the points being made by people outside of access media that can talk honestly about it without any implicit risk of losing access, and if after that you still like it then there´s not much left to say, just dont blindly disqualify or disregard every critique or points made by people who didnt like it because i really really wanted to like the game but was unable to, i just couldnt get through a game thats constantly trying to make me feel bad for decisions the game is forcing me to make while ignoring plotholes and out of character actions. The first game wasn´t perfect either and yes that plot has also been done a million times before, but at least they pulled it off extremely well with LIKEABLE characters showing their growth together and making you care for them and their relationship, and at least the ending made sense, the doctors had killed many immune kids with no remorse and no "REVENGE CYCLE" happened to them those times, they just needed a cheap plot device now to kill Joel and validate the **** plotline and they couldnt even do that well, literally the most disrespectful and stupid out-of-character send off ive ever seen, actually spitting on the character, super subtle writing.
Yes the gameplay is fun for the first 8-9 hours but gets repetitive really quick after that, and yes the game looks AMAZING for sure, what did you expect after 7 years of abusing their own workforce?,
if anything the great people working at ND are the real victims here, i can get a refund for this "feelbad" simulator, they cant get their mental sanity back.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before I submit this review I wanna make it clear that my displeasure with this game has nothing to do with having a female lead, or any sorta lgbt representation. (So don’t pull the bigot card). Joel’s death was handled piss poorly, I wouldn’t have had a problem with Joel being killed if it was done differently, it’s amazing to think that in the 1st game Joel has evaded many of the infected, impaled on a metal rod, has always been discreet and untrusting of others, only to trust a group of randoms with loaded guns in a locked room, and gets golfed to death in the sequel. Abby was not a well executed character IMO, I felt like Abby should’ve never been included in TLOU2. I wanted this game to be more focused on the already established relationship between Joel and Ellie and add more to it. It’s hard to have any care for Abby when she brutally kills Joel, kills Jesse, shoots Tommy in the face, and beats on Ellie and Dina. And while we’re forced to play as this spec ops gorilla brutalizing our favorite characters (Specifically Joel & Ellie), ND somehow expects us to feel some kinda connection for her? Overall I’m very disappointed with this game, the ending was extremely lackluster and nothing was accomplished. This game is basically the equivalent of being held at gun point and forced to throw a basket of puppy’s off a **** cliff and then tell you 6 hours later how wrong you were for that act. Expand

What can I say about this game... let's start with the positive. Graphically it's really great, and I think they've made the best out of this console generation. I love those games like Uncharted, Horizon or GoW where you can just stand here and look at the view.
Unfortunately, that's not everything in a game... And a really good game can also be ugly, just like a beautiful game can be bad.
Let's talk about gameplay. Despite it's an aging gameplay that fits well to this kind of play, we can see some improvements compared to 1, without distorting it. I rather liked it.
The problem is that this "soft" gameplay is acceptable in 1 because we are always emotionally affected by the game, and we want to take our time for everything. Which is clearly not the case in 2.
In addition to not being very dynamic (even if it's quite realistic, we must admit it) the gameplay is repetitive, boring, boring again. You don't have fun, and you don't really want to linger to finish this chore as quickly as possible.
And here we goes with the story... Joel... honestly? It's a shame what you did with it, and I was prepared for his death, but the way you did it...
And killed by Abby? Really? One of the random kids of one of the many random guys killed by Joel? That's the best you could come up with? How about an orphan club? They could even raise an army considering the number of guys I've murdered only in the firefly hospital.
We're forced to play Abby next, who has no charisma, nothing for her. We don't want to play her, less appreciate her, and they try to force us to love her, to have compassion for her, positive feelings... Force us to have feelings... Isn't that rape? Yes, it is. For me it was, it was really boring to play. And long! I couldn't take it anymore.
We're being forced to beat the crap out of Ellie, the last thing I wanted to do... which almost got me to shut down the game without finishing it anyway. Fortunatly you don’t force me to kill Joel, my PS4 would have fly over the window.

And then what? The end? After all of that? I almost expected at the farmhouse scene that Abby would become their best friend / neighbor. Scandalous, we went on a quest for revenge, only to have Ellie save her worst enemy and lose everything she had left in the process, including the last link she had with Joel?
Well done, well done, well done ><

All points of this note are for the incredible graphics, and the nostalgia of being back in this universe. At least for the first two hours of play.

I'm no critic but here is how I feel...
I really enjoyed the gameplay, throw a bottle here, go around there, stealth, or guns blazing the same as the first with tweaks to the model's movement and reaction to surroundings to make it feel more natural/realistic. Bravo to the team at Naughty Dog for accomplishing this. The Visuals are stunning the landscape, the water, the different seasons, and how it changes the whole mood as the story progresses. Everything came together very well and really opened my eyes.

    Story 2/10
Yes I played The Last of Us Part 1 and I will try to make this as unbias as I can (which is difficult.) I will not say the story in this game is helpless because it has a very interesting take on revenge and the consequences of your actions in an almost domino effect. But, the order in which events take place just forces the player to be put in the dark state for most of the game. Like Troy Baker said "This game rests on a pendulum, and in order to reach heights that it does, it must go to the depths. In order to achieve that level of beauty, we must have that level of despair." (interview with Collider Games) With that in mind, Joel the character we get to know and love is murdered within the first 2 hours of the game and you only get to play him for about 30 minutes. So boom despair and that continues on until the flashbacks which I would rate 10/10 absolute tear-jerking moments that make you smile and add on so much to the relationship development between Joel and Ellie. After those what are we left with? Hate. You play as Ellie going out to get your revenge and almost satisfied because we are angry. Then you have to play as this woman you have grown to hate for like 10 hours only to play as her for 10 hours. I found this part unenjoyable and very unpleasant, not to mention the sex scenes and other unneeded fillers.

    My Conclusion
If you skip what is above at least read this please, Naughty Dog it's truly sad to this happen there was no need to do this after 7 years so eager getting chills hearing Gustavo Santaolalla's guitar only to come to a game that is so focused on a character and useless messages that have nothing to do with what the real game is about and that's Joel and Ellie and if you didn't see that in the first game you are obviously blinded from repeatedly feeding the community **** sequels and calling it art. :/

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I came into the game with an open mind. I did not expect to see a masterpiece based on the leaks (which I avoided in order to get a better feeling of the game), but I was still left disappointed. As a long fan of the series, I felt betrayed by the Naughty Dog team as they served a fan base a nothing sandwich. Joel being killed almost immediately into the game was not a good way to start. Joel’s actions before getting killed were even worse. Joel and Ellie were a dynamic duo who held a special place in almost every player’s heart. Joel killed for Ellie and Ellie would of done the same, but poor writing left Ellie emotionally defeated by not killing Lev and Abby at the end of the game. Ellie was left permanently injured, the same goes for Tommy. Jesse was killed in an anti-climatic way. Ellie to leave on her journey, risking her relationship with Dina and J.J, and not kill Abby and Lev was horrible writing. This game could of done better by sparing Joel, Jesse, Tommy, and Ellie. The pro-diversity cast, if executed properly, could not affect a game’a ratings. The forced diversity was obviously present throughout the game. It’s safe to say that most of the players did not like it one bit. As a progressive, it’s nice to see some representation in video games. Some. The writers should have done some more research and come to the conclusion that most of the game’s target audience do not share the same sentiments as the writers. The players came for a continuation of the story that left them amazed back in 2013 and the remastered version. Ellie’s sexuality was not her personality, Ellie was an adored character in the series because her character was executed properly. The same goes for Bill in TLOU. He was a gay man but his sexuality was not his personality and was not a major trait. (I did not even know Bill was a gay man until my 2nd play-through of the game because his sexuality did not matter because he was Bill). The game could have been better Expand

As many already mentioned we have the strongest visual design possible, great music, and smooth gameplay yet the weakest story you can imagine.

I'm not going to complain about Joel (though it HURTS), because I truly believe this was the main reason to move on. Without such a strong bound with Joel we (and Ellie) wouldn't really care to fight. And thing could have worked BUT! But in the end we see it's all in vain. It's absolutely meaningless! We kill hundreds of people just to let Abby go. Ellie's left with no fingers, with no family, with no future, to be honest.
I've spent 30+ hours to feel depressed, to feel betrayed and to realize this game doesn't even have an idea, a moral. Killing is bad? Hell it is, but what about all those dead people? Revenge is bad?? Tell Abby about that! She USED her chance to kill Joel, Ellie failed a lot. All in all, character development is VERY poor. I'd prefer to erase my memory and pretend this game never happened.

The problem with the story it takes away what you loved about the 1st game and forces you to player as a character you despise so as a player you become dis interested in the 2nd half of the game. The gameplay elements were fun but the story made me rush to completion as I simply became disengaged. There are character choices that are really out of character and I really believe they have killed this franchise. The marketing for the game was very misleading and the developers have the arrogance to think they can emotionally manipulate you with such negativity and then sympathise. I know there were elements like that in the 1st game but it never felt hostile. They cant fix what they have done and the writers at naughty dog seriously need to be reviewed as this story is very amateur. If Bruce Straley was apart of this project we may have got a better story. I really wish this game wasn't made. What a waste. The character Abby can go f herself and so can naughty dog with there **** crunch culture. But well done on delivering your torture porn game if that was your goal

The history it's way too long. Graphiclly it's a well designed game, but we have to think that this game comes from a 2013 game, so it's logical to have some issues and non-well-designed actions and cinematics. The ending it's just unnecesary and horrible. Way too long, way too unnecesary.

However the storytelling in the game is frustratingly bad.
It took the fan's favorite character and killed him off in the most unworthy way possible, to later force the player to play as the unlikrable kille and try to make us feel sorry for her.

Iif you want great graphics and visuals, this game may please you, but if you want a interesting story with depth and emotion this game is not for you.

After 7 years you would think the story you'd think they have perfect ed a story, but we ended up being very dissapointed. ul

Sorry but this was not what i have expected. The main bond between the player and Characters from TLOU 1 was crushed and threw away through the window straight into garbage can. Game it self and mechanics are ok but You will never experience those feeling as in PART 1. Sad to say that but you get only 3

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For a story-driven game this is the equivalent to a bad fan fiction written overnight or B-side horror flick only seven years in the making, backed by triple A money and made by the supposed cream of the crop in the creative industry today. A hack and slash blood-fest tale of a girl gutted of all that made her adored and cherished in this game's predecessor, bent on cold hard (*cough* dull) vengeance at the cost of hundreds of human lives. (Because Joel's death mattered, who cares if hundreds of people have to die, their lives were nothing compared to Joel's!) A grim, emotionless Ellie who by the end is trumped in likeability and redeemable qualities by the very villain she's trying to kill. A villain who goes through the cycle of revenge *for* Ellie to learn from, who consistently rises above the themes of revenge that Ellie can't and becomes a better person for it (letting Ellie and her friends live twice over) and reclaiming some form of a life.

Okay, story told, lesson learned right? Ellie and Dina living their dream happily ever after. Alas, the character assassination continues. Ellie can't sleep, can't eat... consumed by Joel's death. There's only one thing for it... Abbie must die! That's when I knew that this bad game was sinking even lower. Character development, story arc? Forget about it, Cue inevitable showdown, finally a resolution! Ellie will kill Abbie, and suffer all the ramifications this brings. Well, nope. She'll just kill a few more humans, stab Abbie a few times and almost drown her to realise what it took Abbie seconds to realise. We are robbed of the satisfaction of her doing the mistake she set out to do the entire game, in favour of this light bulb moment we already got hours before from Abbie. She goes back to an empty house. Revenge is bad.

You know what else is bad? This game. I don't care how gorgeous your graphics are. Don't force me to kill hundreds of people and a dog in the name of revenge and then have the audacity to tell me that I can't have my revenge because revenge is bad and I'm a bad person for wanting it, bad bad and shame on me!

I have heartfelt respect and awe for all the hours that went into creating this game, but not only was playing this game unsatisfying, it actually runied my experience of the first game.

If you LOVED the first game, I'd avoid this game 100% to keep your memory of the first game unsullied. But you if don't care about story as much, or didn't play the first game, and you just want a fun
I have heartfelt respect and awe for all the hours that went into creating this game, but not only was playing this game unsatisfying, it actually runied my experience of the first game.

If you LOVED the first game, I'd avoid this game 100% to keep your memory of the first game unsullied. But you if don't care about story as much, or didn't play the first game, and you just want a fun stealth combat game with some cool ways to run around and kill stuff, it's got some great combat mechanics. Worth the money just for the gameplay.

Here's why I didn't like TLOU2: the inciting incident early in the game didn't work for me. It felt poorly executed--like a forced plot device--and it immediately broke the 4th wall for me. In order for the ENTIRE GAME to work, the player must be filled with rage and the desire for retribution. That's the lynchpin of the entire game. For whatever reason, that crucial scene didn't work for me. It felt forced and clumsy, so I didn't have the "revenge fuel" that's necessary to propel you through the rest of the (very long) game.

-I didn't mind WHO was killed early in the game. I did NOT feel short-changed or misled by the marketing. I have ZERO PROBLEM with that character being killed so early. I just feel like the implementation of that scene was not set up or managed properly, so I felt narrative dissonance and it didn't function as intended. I had ZERO thirst for revenge. It just felt like a narrative mistake.

-I loved the honest and non-gimmicky inclusion & representation of LGBTQ characters.

-I feel like the perspective shifts in the game pulled off some impressive narrative judo and, I actually preferred more gameplay and characters from the second half of the game.

Summarizing the ending is complex. It didn't work for ME because the inciting incident didn't work for me at the beginning of the game. In the final battle, I actually wanted the "hero" to die, NOT the "villain." I didn't feel cheated... I just felt like the final battle was forced and unnecessary.

The epilogue only makes sense to me if they're doing a Part III. If so, then this game is the bitter pill to swallow in order for "redemption" to work in a Part III. But if there's not a Part III, this game is just an unnecessary leap into oblivion.

I loved the first game, and wish I'd skipped this one.

All around decent gameplay if you enjoyed the first. Graphics: Similar to gameplay, there is a slight improvement and without a doubt it is still a beautifulgame but it doesn't stand out as much in 2020. Story: This is where the game falls short for me. It seems that the story revolved around writing off one of the franchises most beloved characters in place of characters that are uninteresting. The writing seemed lazy and "try hard" edgy. Also about the first 3 hours are about 2 love interests that are angsty teens who can't speak what they feel. If that is your cup of tea then look no further. I much prefer the grittiness and character progression of the first Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having played the first game and loving it, I was beyond excited to play the sequel. I avoided the leaks and came into the game knowing nothing. After finishing it, I can't help but be disappointed. It seems Naughty Dog forgot what made the first game special. The quirky bits, interesting side characters and interesting story are not very present in this game. I was extremely disappointed to see that Joel's demise came because he trusted a stranger. Especially after being so cautious in the first game. But it had to happen considering this is a revenge story. So that out of the way, I am beyond perplexed as to why I had to play as Abby for half the game. It seems as if they tried to make Abby seem better than Ellie by trying to give her better parts, playing with dogs and giving more character development. All in all, I'm beyond disappointed and hope Naughty Dog gets back on track with their next game. Expand

This is a story based game. Therefore if the story fails you have to minus more points even though the graphics and game play is exceptional. The story fails, Yes 3/10 seems brutal but if you played Sekiro and the boss's and combat suck you would take extra points off even though the world and graphics are really cool. If you do love misery porn then this will be a 10/10 for you

The scriptwriters hated firat gen characters so much that most them died or badly injured. Tommy came out as the only guy survived throughout the whole game with a severely injured body. Those who gave high score definitely did not appreciate how interesting was the first game. The characters development was so good compared to the second part. Joel used to not trust anyone and now telling outsiders who he is? Heavily pregnant Mel running around like her belly made by metal? Same logic goes to Dinah. Ellie overcame so much just to forgive the one she hated the most even she vowed not to let her go throughout the story? Abby saved two children from opposition gang and protected them juz bcos they are young but did not hesitate to kill Joel who saved her as well! No mention of Jesse the father of Dinah's child after one year event at all but instead D+E? Messy timeline especially the ending part could have ended at the farm. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay... So here's the thing, it's spectacular in terms of graphics and gameplay.

But the story. Oh god the story. Seeing Joel killed so early on - sucked, but I coped with it, it was horrible, brutal, nasty and Negan-esque, but I coped.

Taking nothing away from the other deaths (JESSE!) It was the Joel death that lingered with me... And then Naughty Dog went and did it. In a confusing, anger inducing moment I can't help but abso-f**king-lutely hate them for... They made me *be* the character that took our beloved Joel away.

I felt nothing for Abby. Not when we find out it's her dad's death at the hands of Joel (during Ellie's rescue in tlou) that led to this path of vengeance, Not when she we see her go through some horrible - horrible things to get to where and who she is now. Not when Ellie takes her friends and colleagues away. And certainly not when we see Joel spat on as he lays there. Abby had been cruelly beating him for a long time before killing him in front of his surrogate daughter. She also does it shortly after he and Tommy have just saved her from a massive horde of infected.

How are we supposed to just switch on a care for this character.

    How?!?!

    There was no redemption.

    None.

There was Naughty Dogs message of: Life is harsh - you won't get what you want. There is no happy ending. Oh... And we'll retcon areas of a game you loved because it fits the current narrative.

    No Naughty Dog. Just No.
