The game looks amazing..... and that’s it, the story and gameplay are super boring and the plot twists are just angering and not exciting. It seems like naughty dog just had some ideas for the game and threw boring infected fighting in between the short and bad story

The game is visually stunning with quite good music and voice acting, but it doesn't exactly reinvent the wheel when it comes to gameplay so can't really give it a point for that.

The leaks come out and I take a look because of my anticipation. Why does Joel die so early and in such a humiliating way? Why are the characters so bland and boring? Why did they throw away the consistent story for a petty revenge plot with holes everywhere that. just doesn't make sense? How did this take so long just to have it come out half baked? The gameplay hasn't changed at all since the first game, everything is virtually the same since the first game but with better scenery and a few. new mechanics. That doesn't mean the gameplay is bad, it's very average and enjoyable, especially when fighting human enemies and constantly running in and out of stealth, similar to uncharted. The game has somewhat open worlds, similar to lost legacy, where they give you an area to explore that's somewhat big but doesn't take more then 10 minutes to pick clean. I was very disappointed with the turn out of this game. In December I told my friend who had purchased the game as well "Even is the game is bad, it's the last of us 2, they can't screw it up that badly can they?" They did Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The ending is terrible argumentatively speaking, there is no point in Ellie forgiving Abby, it is simply something absurd objectively speaking, the qualification is for the story, something in which The Last of Us shone, all the feelings and the bond that we unite with the characters it disappears, they throw it away, a waste of new characters. The gameplay is very good but there are still problems with the AI, but I insist that you cannot throw away everything you built in the first part, wasting many of your new and old characters for a goal that you finally did not meet. Terrible, I do not know what the criticism saw well in terms of history, I suppose that daring to kill characters and especially the main characters of the last game, but if they are going to do it, it must be done very well, however, in the end the way they did it was ridiculous. I will begin the analysis explaining the title, I do not know the rest but where I am from the game comes 100 dollars, the base game without any extra question, lately it is turning out for me personally that I am paying dearly for the disappointments at the audio visual level on various platforms , to see it goes without spoilers and graphically short it is a spectacular game, at a sound level it is fantastic (and if you see that the song they included came out a bit expensive since it only comes out once and is the only one you will hear in everything the game) at the level of gameplay nothing new under the sun does not detach much from the rest of the games that are on the lap and personally it makes me stretch it a lot and I see it a bit repetitive, innovating does not innovate much that we say but we are going to the problem, the playable decisions and narratives, there I find a loose game, quite loose, with issues put in shoehorn and I do not know if the expression exists in their countries, it makes me a game very for the hobby (plays for current fashions). alles, the press and it is very politically correct, if you do not believe it), it can be said that the game is divided in two and that is where another problem arises, forcing empathy, specifically a game that you are going to end up exhausted by the length and how forced it is in various situations, where the premise of the trip is diluted as the hours of play go by and with an ending that at least personally leaves me quite unhappy and with a very bad taste of mouth and that at least personally I recommend you buy when its price drops.
Very far from being the game of the year ...

You get trapped in a room and run in circles until you kill the boss. Some areas of the story feel forced and does not flow with the original game. Breaking from the characters original behavior for me was a major issue. It just made the game unbelievable and did not allow for a fluid immersive experience. There definitely where alot of story holes. Another thing to point out it the repetitive hunt for supplies and the ENDLESS opening empty drawers and cabinets only to find absolutely nada! I must say I did enjoy playing as Abby more then I did playing Ellie for some reason. The graphics in the game where beautiful but not the best that I've seen. Expand

This is shown in the bond between Joel and Ellie. We see Joel slowly come to view her as a daughter, and Ellie eventually sees him as a father. The bleak journey they take to get to that point is worth it, because it forges a strong and believable connection that we all root for. Even at game's end, when questionable decisions are made, they are based upon that connection. The tragic ending makes us wonder how their relationship will be tested by the consequences, and what these two will do together in the future. We are still rooting for them!

Sadly, The Last of Us Part II makes it clear very early on that it is done with the Joel/Ellie dynamic, at least in any positive or meaningful way. In its place, we are given a revenge mission with no chance of redemption. Unlike in Part I, there is no one to root for in this game. Our heroine is stripped of all likability, transformed into a rage-fueled murderer, occasionally breaking up the bloodlust with depression. Several new characters are introduced, but not given enough backstory or development for us to care about them, either. We are left with a collection of broken murderers who have lost nearly all positive personal connection in their lives. It's as if all the progress anyone made in Part I is completely reversed. Oddly enough, it seems that this sense of bleak hopelessness is somehow the point, as it is reinforced by a very unfulfilling conclusion. There is no reason for the journey, no 'ends to justify the means'. All that's left is a profound sense of loss for what could have been. This may be an okay concept for a 2hr film, but playing through hours and hours of it - paying to play it - feels torturous. Not to mention how much of a tonal shift it is for fans of the previous game; you'll probably enjoy this game more if you know very little of Part I. Of course, the acting, music, animation, sound design, etc. are all top tier, maybe the best ever in gaming. That's not an exaggeration, and it's the only reason I can't give this game any less than a 3. But this makes the storyline feel so much more disappointing. You can see how this team had all the talent/tools they needed to make an amazing game, but the soul was completely sucked out of it. What's left is a gilded vessel - pretty to look at, but ultimately, empty.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. *FYI I did not look at any leaks* TLOU2 finally upon us. 7 long years in the making. I played the first game 24 hours before the second and I gotta say, this is dog **** writing. None of the new characters have any depth and we have no reason to care about them. It’s only after once they die that we get flash backs for them but since they died a couple of hours ago it means nothing at all. Although Lev and his sister were likable characters in this game and I would’ve loved more from them but I cannot say the same for all of the rest of the characters in the game that were introduced. I have absolutely no problem with the trans characters, lesbian characters or even Joel’s death.. But I have to say they’re all so poorly written that I cannot take this game seriously. It’s a joke compared to the first game, all of the mechanics are the same from the first. I fell asleep three time’s playing this because I got so bored playing it. However some positive things about the game include the graphics, music and atmosphere. These things were all done correctly in the game and I had only wished they had wrote everything better and not so lazily.. Abby and Lev's partnership is a direct rip off, of Joel and Ellie but for some reason they made it politically correct? - Again i don't care about the diversity in the game its cool having this implemented into a post apocalyptic game. The narrative to the story is that revenge is bad and so is killing and its forced down your throat throughout the whole play through. If i had to give this game a rating I'd give it a stinky 3/10 while its apart of the TLOU title. If this was a independent game then i'd give it a 5/10.. those are my final thoughts. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Now I'm pretty sure I can speak for every Last of Us Part 1 fans we wanted this game. Now that I have seen this game I'm not sure if I do anymore. The game mechanics/play is still good if not amazing because not only did they keep it the same but added new mechanics such as the prone action, the crouch action, and the Dodge action. The graphics are 10/10 if this series wasn't based off of how **** good the stories were this review would be WAY higher than a 3. But now we get into the storytelling of this game. I want to start off by talking about how Joel died. Now I came into this game expecting this hell I didn't even see the leaks. I already knew Joel was probably going to die and I accepted that, but before this game came out I toid my buddy "Hey if they kill off Joel in a **** way instead of a good one like saving Ellie for example i'm gonna **** blow my goddamn brains out." It's sad to say that they did that. Now I understand making him die for a revenge plot is what they needed to do but the way he died was not what he deserved. Like Joel said at the start of the game "You go halfway across the country with someone." That was our relationship with Joel. Since 2013 we loved him and played that game over and over and over and loved him. We never wanted him to go. Now for the more serious part of this death that was not so great was they had to make Joel act like he isn't him anymore or be dumber than he has been for the past 24 years in that outbreak so he could get in a ambush and die. Like is he even Joel at this point he was easily able to spot a ambush in the first game. He even says his name to random people and him and Tommy both say where they stay. That is so retarded from his standpoint. I know if that was TLOU Part 1 he either would have let Abby die or save her and run away with Tommy back home or just **** kill her. Because that would be sketchy that armed people are near the town. Now lets get into the Abby part. Theres no way we will ever like her I don't care how much you make us feel for her we will never stop ranting until she gets her brains blown out. You want to know why. Because Naughty Dog decided to put her motive to killing Joel in the 2nd or 3rd act instead of the start of the game. That is like showing Sarah die in TLOU part 1 at the end instead of the start. Now the Ending Is stupid. Throughout the entire game its about revenge for Joel. Its funny because Ellie saw a half of a second of a flashback She decides to spare Abby. What. The. **** might I add after Abby bites Ellie's Fingers off TOO. Also what how they could of put Joel in that situation in the first place better was make Abby save his life so he trusted her more and got killed. It's also stupid that Abby doesn't even think "Wow he **** saved my life should I even kill him anymore" Nope shes just **** kills him without remorse. So thats it with Abby the start of a **** character. Now the False Advertising with Joel. I'm guessing Naughty Dog realized if people knew it wasn't going to be mostly with Ellie and Joel they wouldn't buy it knowing that's what made the first game so good. They false advertised just to get us to buy the game and then later feel betrayed by Naughty Dog because they did us so dirty just for **** money. Don't make a sequel just for money. Make it to be better than the first and make people love the franchise. Not milk it for everything it has and ruin the franchise. What also makes me mad they use LGBTQ to get people to buy the game. Literally Dina's purpose/personality/character arc is just to be Ellie's Lesbian girlfriend. Almost forgot to also say "Im pregnant" That's her entire character. Now Bill from the first game. It's very subtle but Bill is actually Gay. The partner Frank was his boyfriend. But they didn't touch into this subject alot because they didn't want his character just to be I'm Gay. They wanted him to be a paranoid alone man who lives alone and doesn't trust anybody. Or Mortal Kombat X where it did this a tad bit worse but still had it go well saying I can't They won't Accept..." Then Raiden would say "they care only about what is in your heart. Not whom your heart desires." They Normalized both characters not making their entire character arc about being Gay Lesbian etc. I don't like what they did to Jesse as well. He is funny and likeable to many in my opinion at least to me. and is becomes after being the smart guy to run out the door knowing their is a intruder. Like you tell everybody to be careful and give all these tips yet you get yourself **** killed. Kinda like how Joel died. Most negative reviews will give this a zero but I don't I love the gameplay I love the graphics. I hate the story, but if a Multiplayer ever comes and it's good. this game will be better. Hell most negative reviewers might put their point up just a few up. This is my review it's all opinions but I wish Naughty dog didn't ruin this franchise I loved goodbye TLOU P2 Expand

Good things upfront, it features some minor improvements to the gameplay of the first installment, it has the best 'game journalist' difficulty mode, so that I don't even doubt that aforementioned professional 'critics' got through the game in a breeze.

Tlou2 is one of those sequels that miss their previously established target audience by a long shot. (Think of Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts) While not as much gameplay wise even more-so in terms of story and character development. The story follows a very clear and easy to understand narrative from the get go, that just like fans of the first tlou gets screwed over in the end.

The actual user rating reflects how much of a slap in the gamer communities’ face this game is. First of All i know i was no one, and My Opinion or in this case this Review gonna get lost anyway in the Ocean of Angry People so i want to make this **** Quick.

Wtf Sony? Wtf ND? Do you honestly **** thing not just your Head from a **** Bussiness Perspective is Okay? to do this? alright for some kinda reason i got an early access to the Game in my PS4 (idk if this was a Some kinda Joke? I'm not a Reviewer, why the **** i got a Review Copy?) well because the Controversy behind it i just think, why the Hell i'm gonna Waste my Time with This SJW Bull****.

So Joel's Dead, yeah he Dead, Dead dead, not i saying it was a good thing, it could be Foreseen, especially when you already leak yourself that Ellie gonna be the Character that you Control in this Game so i get it she need a Reason yeah.
But why? not why he dead, but the Way he dead, so you telling, there's this Person who has been lived 25 Years in a Post-Apocalyptic Setting, died because some Angry Mob Beat Him, and he whose been on a Dangerous Situation in his Entire Journey that Clearly had some Trust Issues, give his **** name to a **** Stranger, i get it if it just "Oh my Name's Joel or Joe" No the Man literally gives his **** Name, Real Name, Bruh.

And then the Game Start, you playing as Ellie, don't get me Wrong the Graphic sure looks Nice, the Sound Design well its not Bad, the Gameplay? I Mean it just Assassins Creed a **** Recycle what can i call bad from that? Well there's, why the **** you make it more Simpler? why? You know the Gameplay from the first Game is Enough, it's not Hard Enough for A Beginner but not Easy Enough for a Veteran if you get what i meant, it had some Puzzle there and there that could help spice up the Gameplay a Little bit, and now Knowing about that **** and getting the first impression that the Gameplay is the Same, obviously people will expected the Same atleast to a Degree Challenges, now Robbing the Challenges out from the Game doesn't sound good at all right? then why the **** you do it? Christ man.

And now the Story..... you know what **** the Story, you gave us the Opportunity as the Bad Guys so in a way we Could Attached to them right? but making the Ending so the Bad Guy wasn't even get what the **** they deserved does that even Sounds Right? What? So you telling me You give us the Player as Ellie a Motivation to Avenge Joel, and yet You Discard it altogether in the End? then why the **** Joel's Dead then? Did you just oh **** man for ****sake **** the Story, it feels empty because it was, for **** sake this game was just an Excuse for a SJW'S Collection doesn't it huh ND?

I think this should be made a new title or stand alone game, not a sequel to "The Last of Us', because "The Last of Us" tells about "US ", I think it should be given a new title, maybe "The Part of Me" hahahaha

The idea, promise, characters of the first part are simply buried. Half of the game you are forced to play for an absolutely vile hero, trying to show two sides of the coin. But it does not work! A terrible sequel that evokes extremely negative emotions.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not a lot I can say that hasn't already been said. This game is BEAUTIFUL it is a freaking masterpiece design-wise. Gameplay is also just improved in every way from the first game. Literally can't emphasize that enough! If all you care about is gameplay and graphics BUY THIS GAME! Hell I'd even say rent it if possible. I unfortunately do love story and will honestly play very bad games if the story is interesting enough to me. Story matters more to me than gameplay and especially now more than ever. I want a world that can take my mind off of our horrible world we live in. This game succeeds in that regard for the first half of the game, then you are violently pulled out of this immersive world shoved against a wall and beaten and told to love and sympathize with a character you hate. Not only that but you get to spend the next 10-15 hours playing as her. This is where the game is ruined for me I can't stress enough how awful the game gets after the first half.

The best way I can describe this feeling I have is I feel the same way now as I did after watching star wars the last jedi(or after playing KH3). It feels like Naughty dog just wanted to SUBVERT EXPECTATIONS and that's all they cared about. They didnt wanna give us those powerful feelings from the first game they wanted to give us something divisive. They wanted us to argue over this game and be mixed about it. They lied to us in the trailer specifically to trick us. I know they wanted this because the sections of the game where ellie is with Joel (the birthday for example) are literally the best and most heartfelt moments. They made me feel like I was playing a master class of game but then they slam you back to the world of this game almost like a cruel tease. I'll be honest I'm sad Joel died I hated it, I honestly was one of the people who thought his choice at the end of the last of us was wrong and selfish and even figured he'd die because of it. I didnt want him to though....and definitely not the way he did. But again I actually support his death in some way he was kind of meant to die this game it made sense and the anger I felt was so real it gave me goosebumps and I knew I wanted to destroy all the people involved with it. But then ya don't you brutally beat one girl from the group to death (a minor character from the group I might add)and the rest of their death's are just self defense usually and it's over quickly. Then when you finally get to Abby and it's time to make that jerk pay....Abby kills your friend maims Tommy and kicks your ass.....BUT WAIT we get to go after her I shouldve known Ellie is a bad ass and is gonna make this ***** pay for everything we're gonna get the vengeance for Joel's death......oh wait no Ellie gets her fingers bitten off by Abby and then let's Abby go because she suddenly doesn't want revenge anymore......oh and Ellie can never play guitar again the one connection she still had with Joel, Abby took that too. Cool.....I guess....so Ellie loses everything and that's the story.....great but hey at least she sacrificed everything......and then.....still didn't get....vengeance.....yep.

This series is now honestly dead to me I miss young Ellie and Joel's adventures. Maybe that's the point of this game is that's where it should've ended but because of Joel's actions he's caused Ellie (and us) and the world more suffering because he couldn't let go and just cherish the time he did spend with her. Idk but I guess I'm just disappointed with the game because I feel let down. If you disagree with me I'm happy for you and respect your opinion I wish you the best and hope you found this review helpful. Best of luck my friends

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a game developer I'm impressed with the environment graphics, character graphics, and character animation. I'd call it a masterpiece and give it a 10/10 on that side. Unfortunately, the game story lets the game down. This game is a testament to Woke. I had to skip several cut-scenes since I personally don't want their agenda thrust onto me, and by the end of the game I really didn't care that much and just wanted the thing to end. I was not in favour of some of the more violent scenes so I skipped them too. I think the company would have done a great job if they had stayed away from the woke agenda which would mean the critics would slated the game as they have all bought into woke. Gamers would most likely rate it highly then. Aside from the woke agenda, the way the story was presented wasn't that bad, as I enjoyed playing as different characters, but wished they had offered the player choices that would have shaped the story, instead of forcing them down a linear path of revenge. It was cool though to play the story from opposing main characters and see how they both ended up in the same place. The revenge plot did spoil the story though, and was another reason why I just didn't care when I got towards the end of the game.
So summary is: great graphics, and animation, poor story and choc full of woke agenda, and sadly the story is such a let down, I can't give the game more than 3/10.

After an amazing first part of The last of us 2 that mainly talked about the relationship between Ellie and Joel between father and daughter that is the main thing we liked about Tlou .We liked the story, game-play, dailogue between the charactars, emotions etc....
But if you told me that Tlou2 will be excluded from all of that i would have not believed you but after i played the game .i saw how poor the story is. Joel being killed a painful death shows how the devolpers really does not care about the main charactars and putting some agenda like Ellie being a lesbian and making the game in the hands of woman that does not make any sense at least make a balance between men and woman in the game not because feminism and this things that bring views and easy money you run after them! unfortunatly naughty dog ran for the fashion ,naughty dog ran for the thing that brings money and joel being killed is not the problem the way he dies is the problem the way the does not make any sense also the game unlike the first part. tlou2 talks about revenge .A renenge for a main charactar being killed by abby i know how the game wants us to hate abby for what it did to joel but not like that not with a story that does not make sense but the gameplay is very good the way Ellie can squeeze through tiny place makes the game fast and amazing in terms of the gameplay . you can choose your approach stealth using your bow or suppressor guns or variety of guns where you can upgrade or exploring new places where you can find things that may help you throughout the game and where you can control every thing in the game from the colors of subtitles and health of the opponent and and where zombies can listen to you etc... in the end i can only say that this game is very very very disappointing and I am real sad about what they did to the game

So before anything i'm telling you all right of the bet that i'm really pissed off about this.
The last of us ll, One of the most if not the most anticipated gaming sequel of this year, it takes apart a few years after the original one (The last of us l) from 2013, where we see Joel and Ellie take of together the unknown.
Now you might be wondering why the 3/10 score if this was such an anticipated sequel, well let me tell you why, in order to give a 10/10 review like most of the so called professional reviewers out there a game/book/movie/series needs to have certain characteristics that sets it apart from the others.
Most of the reviewers gave this game a 10/10 review which is already weird because normally there is always some negative and some neutral reviews and if you played the game you will get to the same conclusion that many of us have because this is not sequel material. They presented us with a game shouldn't even have been release but why?
Well the graphics are amazing and that's truth and i wasn't expecting anything less from naughty dog and that is the only reason that im not giving the review a 0/10 and a 3/10. Why a 3/10?| you may ask be asking... well because the graphics of the game should never be the reason why a game as a 5/10 or even a 10/10 review which normally is the reason that people who play games casually gives it to them. So now the real reason why i don't give anymore credit to the game, well for starters this game is a sequel and sequels normally tend to follow a path set by the first one, and what i'm trying to say is that this game has nothing to do with The last of us l in terms of story development and character development. Naughty dog literally takes a piss on what fans loved about the characters and what the characters were and completely remakes their whole way of thinking and acting, Joel is not actually the Joel we met that was bitter towards strangers (i guess 5 or 6 years really change someone's perspective of the whole world even in an apocalypse), Ellie goes on a killing spree out of revenge for Joel's death (which is the whole point of the game, getting a revenge...) just so that in the end she doesn't even get's her revenge after killing maybe hundreds of people because and let me emphasize this BECAUSE killing is not a solution (well Ellie the why the killing spree what did the other ones did to you to deserve it?). That's the biggest problem with this game, this history ... a revenge history isn't something that marks the players it just isn't something that you enjoyed watching and playing it doesn't stick to your memory because it's just a normal story just like the other, there is literally nothing different from this history and the one from some indie game with a overall rating of 3 or 4 a game with a rating of 10 needs a compelling history that will stay with you for years, this might be a game, but just like movies and series you can have pieces of it with you for the rest of your life they can be lessons or experiences that sometimes might even change you. So now that the biggest problem with this game is addressed i'm going to speak about the secondary problems with it.
The gameplay itself, we were promised a revolutionary gameplay but what we really got was empty promisses, the gameplay it's almost the same as in The Last Of Us l, now don't get me wrong they did changed it, they added dogs! i mean what's there to not love about it?
We all loved the way the game was meant to be played in 2013 but where is the improvement? you still craft items in the same way as you did before so no improvement there, the looting system is the exact same one so nothing new there either they may have add some new animations to the fight's but in overall despite the change in graphics the gameplay stayed pretty similar the on in The last of Us l.
So in conclusion i'm giving this game a 3/10 score

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I never felt, that this game needed a sequel, so I was pessimistic about part II. And I wasn't wrong. The only 2 positives things about this game are graphics and gunplay. But did we all love TLoU 1 because of these things? - No. We loved it because of it's story and characters. And both of these thing in TLoU 2 are absolute awful from many points. What an absolute amazing way to write your story by killing the face of the series at the very start of the game, the main reason why we love TloU. And not only that, but he was killed like a side character, like everything we've been through with this character meant nothing. What a waste of potential, what an act of disrespect towards your fan base. Not to mention, that Naughty Dogs literally scammed me and other players. They replaced Joel in some parts of the game(where he is supposed to be based on the promotion trailer) by a random guy, called "Jessie", for example. Yeah, how can you make a promotion trailer without Joel, right? And I find it quite simbolic and funny, that the guy, who spat on the Joel's corpse looks exactly like Neil Druckmann. This man literally spat on such great character, which Joel is and on us, fans of this game. That's exactly like I felt. But it wasn't the end of the suffering. How retarded must you be to force your players to play half of this **** game a character, who killed the character we all loved? To force us, players, to attack Ellie? Did you really think it would be fun or any interesting? Are you **** dumb? What an amazing game design decision. Applause. But the most retarded thing is, that people who don't like the game are branded as homophobes or just immoral human beings. You are the one forcing this LGBT values on to me and you are calling me immoral? Obviosly, to show lesbian sex was much more important than to write a decent story and to kill the face of the story the way he deserved. And the ending of the game... Mmm... on the boundary of fantastic. Do I reccomend this game? - Absolutely no, especially, if you are the fan of the original game. Expand

    - Graphics and sound are awesome.
    - Gameplay is passable. Nothing exceptional.

    Cons:
    - Story. Oh gods the story. It tries to be an edgy revenge story but falls soundly flat on that because there is no payoff. It forces you to play a character where it's made clear early on that you're supposed to hate her and tries to make her seem more 'sympathetic'. Honestly how they thought they could pull this off is a joke. For the ending I thought nothing could top Mass Effect 3 for a horrifically bad end but this game does it by a clear margin.
    - Mis-advertisement ND uses Joel to promote the game. Joel barely exists in the game and virtually all the promotional imagery wasn't in the game or it was doctored.

The graphics are as expected from naught dog . In matched . But the gameplay loop and story writing are something that feels like 7 years of solid waiting for this game have fallen short and left this game feeling like a side quest to a story that we will never see . The dynamic of what made the first game brilliant is gone . Killing off characters like it’s game of thrones . Putting a revenge story and making you play as a character not wanted by the fans . And no I don’t care about the whole agenda politics. Strong female leads like aloy from horizon zero dawn are unmatched and widely loved by fans . Setting the bar as you would say. But the writing given in last of us part 2 is just so lazy. And we don’t get to experience what made the first game so successful. The developer just used that success to create this absurd narrative like he is creating the wheel. This game is everything we never asked for . How sad that it’s come to this . Well, actually... where do I start with this mess. Look, I am a massive fan of the first game - so much so this was my most anticipated game of the past 4 years since its announcement. Firstly, lets start with the story/plot, and where it goes wrong in so many ways but also what it does right.

Okay so, this "sequel" follows Joel and Ellie again right? ... Right? Well... No. Joel, my personal and I know a lot of other fans too, favourite protagonist in a video game EVER is killed off within the first 2 HOURS of this 25 hour game. Now this COULD have worked, however the way they executed (no pun intended) this was HORRIFIC. For starters, it just straight up makes no sense as to why Joel and Tommy would wonder in to a room full of strangers after 25 years of building a natural survivors instinct. Furthermore, the way Joel inevitably is killed is so inhumane and spiteful to a character we've grown to adore of the past 7 years, a character we were told we would be following in a new adventure but were unfortunately lied to by an incompetent marketing strategy.

The game then follows Ellie, our new protagonist and god damn she is great and we can't wait to get sweet revenge on Joel's murderer, Abby... Right? RIGHT!? Well... No. Half way through the game, the developers decided it be a good idea for us to play as Joel's murderer, for her to not be an antagonist, but a second protagonist. This is where the game falls flat in many ways, I can't count the amount of times I intentionally had Abby's throat ripped apart by a clicker, or fall from a great height to her demise, finding satisfaction in seeing this character die in the meanest fate, something I as a player genuinely believed she deserved. Any attempt at making us sympathise with Abby is in vain as we unfortunately already know what she has done and myself as a player only wanted one thing and that was for Ellie to avenge Joel's death.

Anyway, in short, we go back to playing as Ellie and find Abby after a short time has passed. And we're about to get our sweet, sweet revenge... Right? RIGHT!? Oh for fuc...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Have had some time to think about the game as a whole. I am a big fan of the first game as it shows the character growth between these two individual who have lost their faith in the world. How they connect and start to respect and have this care for one another really was amazing to see unfold. Sadly the second game in this franchise has crashed. This is the most visually and best sounding Game I have played on the PS4 let alone any game in recent memory. Ellie’s determination to seek revenge is one a lot of the fans got behind with what unfolded in a certain scene. Sadly the story falls flat and we are expected to play as the character who made Ellie seek revenge. Let alone for 10+ hours as her. In my personal opinion she is the worst part of the game. It feels lacklustre playing as her and trying to get us to feel certain emotions for her just simply don’t work. As a big fan of this franchise I was hoping for Ellie’s and Joel’s story. I did feel for that unfortunate scene to take place in the beginning hours but Joel’s death should of been / meant more. Having his death done the way it was, was unnecessary. It felt like it was only done as a shock value moment. The story could of been amazing and the risks could of been greater. Neil. I don’t know what you were thinking and how you thought this was the correct way to tell such an impactful story but your way off the mark. Do the fans a service and really look into what we all have to say. Fix the ending. Fix the narrative. By the end of the game it all felt pointless. There wasn’t a means to the end. If a third gets made. Maybe take a back seat. I’m sure you are a great and respected person in your industry but don’t spit in the fans face with this story. Maybe look into something like Mass Effect 3 and put out a patch to fix the mess it is currently. A lot could of been amazing in this game but every chance you flipped it and it doesn’t feel deserved for the reasoning. Expand

I knew I’d enjoy it because of how much I loved TLOU I love the fact that in this one you get to explore even more to find new things that help you upgrade your equipment so that it doesn’t get old very quick. But...now for what I dislike THE STORY...the dialogue at times is very dry and seems like they are trying to get and emotional reaction that isn’t earned...and don’t even let me get started on Abby this is probably the worst video game character I’ve seen (worse then Micah)..they try to justify what she did which I can kinda understand but the biggest issue is that you are forced to play with someone that you don’t want to...I knew for a long time that this game would probably be Joel’s last but never did I think they’d toss him aside like garbage after we all got to know and love this character and if the direction of the 3rd is going where I believe (which is following Abby) then I think I’m done with this series.. sorry I began to rant lol but all in all I think the game is beautiful and a masterpiece visually but the story to me is what games are really about so it just ruined the experience for me Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Could've been the best Game ever, but instead the devs decided to make a **** It's MY personal opinion, if you disagree, feel free to it.

    First the Pros:
    - Amazing graphics & audio, great atmosphere and solid gameplay. Details are incredible and I like the small gimmicks they build into the world.
    Alright, that's it.

    Cons:
    - Handling of the Main characters. Killing one of my beloved two chars off, right at the beginning, when I couldn't wait to play with Ellie and Joel again who had the best synergie in every game imo, is a massive middlefinger right into my face and false advertising in the trailers.
    - A revenge plot that makes absolute no sense in the end. All characters are replacable and have absolute nothing to contribute to the story.
    - Speaking about revenge - the ending was just horrible. I'm massacring hundreds of people and dogs just to let the killer of Joel go in the end. Why? To feel something? Again, I'm forced to have sympathy for a Character I absolutely do not care about.
    - But hol' up: I'm forced to play Abby who killed my favorite Char Joel and "I have to feel for her" - it's forced and I don't like it.. I don't care about her or her intentions. If I invest 15h of my life and play Ellie and Joel and waited 7 years to play 15h as Ellie again, who has bloodlust, kills everything that stands in her way for another good 15h (That's 30h in total maybe more)... and FINALLY I get to the point where Abby stands right in front of Ellie (Abby killed another one of Ellies long friends in that scene and then tries to do the same with the brother of Joel and shoots him in the head) WHAT HAPPENS? I PLAY AS ABBY FROM NOW ON and even HAVE TO PLAY AGAINST ELLIE, the CHARACTER I CARE ABOUT. Man. It's just terrible and frustrating.

I do understand what Naughty Dog tried but they failed miserably. This game is an absolute **** and doesn't deserve to be Game of the Year. It's the controversy of the year, but definitely not anything more than that. And now speaking about it, originally I wanted to give a 4/10, but actually it's just a 3/10.

The story was a major disappointment for me. I do not think I have ever been so let down about a story before in my life. I understand that having a story not go the way I want it to go is just my opinion, and that the developers can take the story in whatever direction that they want to, but I do not think 95% of people could have ever predicted that this story would go in the direction that it did, and I think that was a major mistake on Naughty Dog's part. I do not mind when a company wants to subvert their audiences expectations; but I only agree with this approach, if the company stays true to the characters; The Last of Us Part 2 does not do this in my opinion. Also, in my opinion, from a pure business standpoint, the direction they took the story makes no sense and I believe will hurt the overall sales of this game in the long run.

One character in particular makes/says some of the dumbest things ever, that they would have never of said in the first game, and it complete betrays who the character is. The only justification for having the character be so stupid, is because the story needs the character to be; hence poor writing. Not to mention all of the other bs that Naughty Dog had been doing up to the release of the game and are still currently doing. I stayed away from the spoilers for the most part, but I was paying close attention to what was going on with the copyright claims on accounts on social media websites. Here are the biggest reasons why I think people are so upset about this game:

    1) The trailers for the game were extremely deceiving.
    2) The illegal use of copyright infringement towards a number of Youtubers, Twitter Users, and other online platforms.
    3) The Leaks - After playing the game, I completely understand why people who saw the leaks are furious and why they did not purchase the game (And they have every right to have this opinion).
    4) The Vice-President of Naughty Dog Neil Druckmann's comments and trolling of fans before and after the release of the game.
    5) The vast majority of media outlets not having the backs of or reporting on what Naughty Dog was doing to Youtubers and Twitter users who were having their videos struck down or being banned for memes on Twitter.
    6) The media's take on the users scores on Metacritic (review Bombing); this take is invalid considering that a ton of people are also giving this game a perfect 10 out of 10 with no context. Reviewing bombing goes both ways, but a lot of times media outlets only like to report on the things that fit the narrative they are pushing.

Overall from a gameplay and story perspective I have to give this game a 3 out of 10. The story is that awful in my opinion, and is a giant slap in the face to a large portion of the fans of the first game. It is absolutely fine if you enjoyed this game, I honestly envy you and wish I enjoyed it as well, but the negative criticism that this game has been receiving is 100% valid and anyone telling you otherwise is blind and naive.

I would like to thank all of those at Naughty Dog who had nothing to do with the story or any of the antics that your company was doing throughout the development of this game and build up to the release of this game; I am sure you all worked extremely hard on this game and truly did an amazing job visually and mechanically.

I won't spoil the story but it's bleak .. it's trying so hard to tell you something that it pretty much spends the latter half of the game smacking you around the head with it until you beg for it to stop. They could of done so much more with it but instead opted for this truly paint by numbers "revenge" story .. trying to make you care about a character they make it impossible for you to care about. Making a character that we loved into a a terrible human being and giving us plot interests that .. just never become interesting. The start of the game is too long winded, there is too much exposition and set up and when you sit down and really think about it, the game is a linear regression in comparison to its origin story which was what made you want to go through the game sections in the original, you was rewarded with more story .. here you don't want to be part of either story or game, pushing forward just feels like pushing a knife into your own stomach. I am hoping they get to make a third .. because if they're using the star wars model like how it feels they are .. then the next game is the return of the Jedi of the franchise and I can't wait to see what their version of an ewok is ... Groot probably.. in keeping with the plant/spor theme. Anyway .. I can't recommend this game, I can't say don't play it either because ultimately the only way your really going to know if you like it or not is to play it for yourself.. but don't say you wasn't warned. The section where you play as Abby is an insult to player and fans, trying to convince them that someone as her has any sort of redemption and making players play as the killer of the beloved main character of the previous game, ND didn't understand how yo make a good "play as the villain" story/sidestory. I loved the first part and I've enjoyed every single moment. Part 2 came out...I was very disappointed because of the story like everybody else. I was expecting to play more with Ellie and I was ok with killing Joel, but not in the first hour of gameplay.

I am not the typical gamer when it comes to zombie games. In the first game I knew I had to face my fears and kill zombies just to see what happens with those 2, now I played the second part just to see if I will be playing again with Ellie, waiting for Abby part to finish. I did not enjoy it as much as I did with the first part.

There is absolutely no denying the astounding visuals that Naughty Dog delivers, despite being a Ps4 game it truly looks next-gen.

The performances are astounding, with an all-star cast of voice actors giving their absolute all.

Gameplay is another place where the developers have improved, although it isn't top tier, it's serviceable and has a little bit more to it than it's predecessor. The fighting animations are improved immensely, with brutality brimming from each hit. Looting and scouring the world feels like it has more of a purpose to it, but for the most part it's the same formula, with some minor, but noticeable improvements.

Sadly, this is where some of the issues start to pop up. We get some fantastic moments with familiar characters, but those drastically outshine everything else the game has to offer. Many people will end up feeling like this isn't actually a sequel to the first game, but more like it borrows the setting and some of the characters to tell a different story. The marketing comes off as a little deceptive, as it's made out to be more closely related to the original than it actually turns out to be. Aside from a few flashbacks and minor moments, the game is completely lacking the intimacy and charm of the first game.

The Last of Us was all about the story and the characters, while the sequel improves on visuals and gameplay, the story falls so short compared to the original that it's hard to imagine it being created by the same people. Characters that were once flawed, but relatable take drastic shifts and if it hadn't been for the visuals, could have just as easily been replaced with a completely different cast. It feels as if the story was made without the characters in mind and they were later pigeonholed into the story.

The most egregious part of this game is it's pacing. There are a lot of time jumps, which in and of itself isn't necessarily a detractor, but when parts of the game feels like hour-long detours from the actual story, it's hard to stay interested. By the time the main plot returns you're so far away and disconnected that it's hard to remember or care about what's going on.

The game also comes off as being at odds with itself. The core message being something along the lines of "violence breeds more violence and revenge won't satisfy you the way you might think". This isn't an entirely groundbreaking idea, but it's an alright basis for a story. The problem is that the gameplay doesn't at all reflect this notion. The developers go to great lengths to make you feel bad about certain actions and feel bad for certain characters, but as soon as the cut scene ends you're supposed to murder 15 enemies without feeling an ounce of remorse, so it ends up feelings like the theme is fighting the gameplay and the cut scenes and the gameplay are separate things entirely. Things only matter when it's convenient and push the story in the direction that the developers want, which in the end cheapens the whole message quite a bit.

The game is very selective about when you should feel certain things and when you shouldn't. It works hard to portray things as grey, not entirely bad or entirely good and where it ultimately lands varies wildly depending on the characters perspective. This is great, nuance is golden as far as I'm concerned. The problem is that certain things are portrayed completely as wrong or right, seemingly whenever the developer feels like it. It can come off as being told what to think, being told that this is right or wrong and disregarding any kind of nuance. It's nice in theory, but very poorly executed.

The Last of Us 2 is a technical marvel that looks and sounds astonishing, but the story and characters are a complete mess at times. Where the first game felt natural, this game ends up stumbling clumsily in it's delivery of what truly matters in a game like this, the story and the characters. As a standalone game it might do fine, but as a sequel to something so refreshing and beloved, The Last of Us 2 completely misses the mark.

You play as the villain in most part of the game, the story is pretty simplistic revenge for what happened at the end of the previous game but for some reason lets not talk about it The only reason people say the story in the previous game was good is the dynamic between ellie and Joel, take that away and you got an empty game

The gameplay is pretty much the same that the previous one, they added 1 more infected mutation that appears maybe twice, the puzzles and level design is poor, the only mystery is when you find a lock door and have to broke a windows to get in and read the password of the vault that is written in a few meters away and that happens like 8 times. Thats all the puzzles in the game. There are a few good scenes in the game like the performance of ellie, nora killing and the birthday of ellie and joel, beside that i cant think of anything else if this game came out for ps3 it would be considered really good like the last of us part 1, but things have change and so does the game you are delivering the same gameplay nothing new but a crappy revenge story about the simple concept of, and "eye for and eye, and we all will end up blind" Empty

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The mechanics, graphics, and animations of this game are actually phenomenal but what really makes this game bad is the story. There are multiple times were times where the characters try to set a theme for the game but the amount inconsistencies this game has in its dialogue, character actions and motivations make it hard for me to take this seriously. It feels like aspects of the plot were shoved in just to have something happen and not having smooth transitions or deep and complex motivations for the characters to discuss and act upon. I think if they changed the chronological order of the events of the game it would have been a better game. The game tries to use Joel as premiere shock value to just pull players into the story but it does the opposite. If they started with the motivations of Abby and her situation with everything that has been going on, the death of Joel would be in a grey area questioning whether or not Joel made the right choice with everything he has done and the people he has hurt; instead, they made the fanbase of the prior game immensely upset at the useless death of the beloved death of Joel. The flashback scenes with Joel should have been the game and the death of him at the hands of Abby at the end so the fanbase could at least have one last adventure with the duo. Overall, good mechanics good graphics but wheres the story at. This is definitely not the worst game of the year, but it is the most disappointing. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay: pretty much like the first one. The shooting is nice, but the levels are too big in my opinion.

Graphics: Amazing for a current gen game, frame rate was sometimes a bit low

    Story:
That's where the problem is. The story is incredibly stupid and at some points tries way to hard to make you like/dislike a character. It's a standard revenge plot, but after killing dozens and dozens of people, losing her father figure, a good friend and almost her girlfriend, Ellie suddenly decides she doesn't like killing anymore and just lets Abby go.
I can't believe some people seem to fall far the obvious manipulation to like Abby, because we are forced to play her for half the game. She tortured and killed Joel and forced Ellie to watch, while visibly taking pleasure out of the situation.
The game goes to comical lengths to paint her in a good and Ellie in a bad light, it forces you to kill multiple dogs with Ellie, while Abbie has to pet them.
Also the pacing of the game is terrible, it builds up half the game to the climax and then just goes to 0 again lo show Abbies backstory, which I absolutely had no interest in. You are clearly supposed to feel bad for her and her father, but he tried to murder a 14 year old girl while she was unconscious and she is a murderer. All that flashback does is to show that Joel absolutely made the right decision in the end of TLOU 1.

All in all there are 4 fun things in the game:
-Letting Abby die every time you play with her
    -Petting dogs
    -Playing guitar
    -The museum flashback

The rest is mediocre at best. If you really like the gameplay of TLOU1, pick this game up for 10$ or less when it goes on sale, otherwise, don't waste your money and time on this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall, I thought The Last of Us Part II was not a very good game. I was a huge fan of The Last of Us on PS3, so the disappointment is really high for this sequel. That said, I'll talk about the positives first.

    Pros:
I liked the game's graphics. They were amazing, and it looks absolutely gorgeous. Also, the music is very good and the voice acting is top notch. While I like some of gameplay aspects, overall, I thought it was serviceable, so not really a pro but also not a con either.

    Cons:
The story is absolutely atrocious. A lot of the story aspects, such as the storytelling and the execution of the story's ideas, killed any hope this game had for me from thinking this game is amazing. The story is a generic revenge plot that revolves around the "revenge is bad" trope that has been done many times in the past (more on this later). My biggest criticism of the entire game, from a story narrative standpoint, was the execution surrounding Joel's death. I have zero issue with Joel dying, but how he dies, considering how beloved he is as a character, is important and the story narrative completely discards Joel for no reason. Consider his murderer, Abby, is saved by Joel twice before Abby decides to murder him, it completely killed any chance of caring about the character development and backstory for Abby (more on this later). On that thought, Manny spitting on Joel's corpse was such an insult to his character. On the theme of character deaths, every single major death in the game is completely forgotten about as soon as they die, with the exception of Joel. When a major character dies, you never ever hear about them, by name, again for the remainder of the game. The character development for most of the characters in this game is virtually non-existent, including Ellie. They are exactly the same at the beginning of the game as they were at the end of the game. Now, let's talk about Abby, the most controversial character in The Last of Us Part II. Abby is my least favorite character and one of the biggest reason why this story sucks because the game's narrative required me to feel sympathetic for her for the entire backstory to work. I get her backstory that she's vengeful because Joel was responsible for her dad's death, but the game failed miserably to convince me to empathize with her. I still wanted her dead, even by the end of the game and getting all her backstory. Maybe it could have worked if Joel's death was done later and we got some backstory of Abby beforehand, but that's not what happened. The game chose to make me play as her immediately following Joel's death. As soon as I started playing as Abby was when I stopped having fun with this game and stopped enjoying the story. This game also has one of the worst endings I have ever seen in a video game. In order for the generic revenge plot to work, Abby should have been killed by Ellie to justify the narrative choice to kill Joel off, but Ellie lets her go because the story wanted to tell the message of "revenge is bad!", which I think it was a bad narrative choice because it is anti-climatic, non-conclusive, and completely negates the purpose of Joel's death. On that point, they repeated the beat of "revenge is bad" so much that it gets aggravating by the end of the game. Finally, while I stated that I liked some of the aspect relating to the gameplay, there are pacing issues and several spots that make the gameplay feel repetitive and mindless, and I got really bored.

I was so disappointed overall. I don't get how this game was critically acclaimed consider all the issues with the game, which most of it deserves the criticism.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
