This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Even though I found the first game a little overrated, i still loved it and was hyped for the sequel, but oh I am so disappointed.

    PROS:

Visually stunning- some of the character models look a little weird and unrealistic but apart from that this game looks so good.

Level design and art direction- I actually think this is one thing the sequel does better than the first.

Acting- Can't complain, acting is great.

    CONS:

Story- As many have pointed out, the story is appalling (one of the worst in video game history) it just feels like a insult to fans of the original and a big part of the game forces you to play a horrible character.

Gameplay- gameplay isn't bad but it's just so...meh, like a lot of Naughty Dog games it feels a little clunky and dated at times.

Ending- probably the worst ending in video game history, made the entire game pointless. Killing Abby would've at least made the game somewhat fine but Ellie keeping her alive made no sense. Ellie kills many innocent people but spares Abby? Makes no sense.

Characters- Didn't like either old or new characters. Despite being the main character of the first game Joel hardly does anything and acts out of character. Ellie too acts out of character. Abby is so unlikeable yet the games tries so hard to make you like her and I don't want to be forced to like this vile villain. Lev is also a character they fore you to like but he is just not interesting. Jesse's only purpose was to get Dina pregnant and Dina herself is so bland and I just didn't see chemistry between her and Ellie.

Pacing- Like Uncharted 4 this game outstays it's welcome, it realy drags on. It's about 25-30 hours but should've been about 18-20, we didn't need the long Abby sequences.

Tone- The game tries so hard to come across as "edgy" and "thought provoking" but it just comes across as narcissistic. Also, it feels like they just added OTT violence scenes for shock value, it forces you to kill dogs and pregnant woman to try and act edgy but it just comes across as misery porn.

Joel's death- I'm fine with Joel dying (let's face it we all knew he was going to die) I just hate how it happens, it happens in the first 2 hours of the game and after all he's been through he gets killed by a golf club?!

So that's my review of TLOU2, such a letdown.

The game graphics and mecanics are incredible but the story is so, so bad; there were a lot of other things to explore but they did this **** story about revenge where Ellie kills half of the post-apocaliptic US population and then forgives Abby, a character that came from nowhere and that only found joel because of luck.

For me, the gameplay, music, sounds, and visuals are amazing, and another for me, the Infected were the best, they felt like they had more personalities than these "characters" Naughty Dog made and changed for the sake of a crap plot on revenge. The story isn't special, so are the characters. Trying to build Abby and her friends hours after they killed Joel, and making us feel for them in a **** way, was totally wrong. I was happy when all of her friends died, even when it was supposed to be "emotional". They also make Lev a large subplot, even though what she was going through has NOTHING to do with the world of last of us. I have no problem for lgbt rep, if anything, Bill in the first Last of Us was great, same for the DLC, but this time, shoving it in our faces isn't the way. Along with a ****ty ending, first, Abby kills Joel in front of Ellie, Kills Jesse, almost kills Tommy, breaks her arm, beats Dina's face in almost cutting her throat, and bites two of her fingers off, just to have a small memory of Joel, and letting her go. For a sequel that was 1000000 percent anticipated, it delivered a large disappointment. I enjoyed the flashbacks with Joel, but they always ended up in showing what he did, that justifies his death. We all knew he was gonna die but like this? It's just bad. If you like the new Star Wars trilogy and the last two seasons for Game of Thrones, buy this game. If you love the characters from the first game, a good plot, and hope that no social politics will be shoved in your face, DON'T buy this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I felt like this game was just the writers and directors spitting in the face of the original TLOU. I really felt betrayed and dissapointed when I finished the story. The first half of the game was great but who **** thought that players would like to play as Abby for +10 hours? This is Ellie’s story of revenge, not a gorilla girl romantic story. I trully believe that 2 monkeys could have written a better ending to this **** story. I feel that the Ellie we know would have killed Abby the moment she had the opportunity, we do not need this “revenge is bad” **** I **** hated the fight at the theater because I do not want to play with Joel’s killer agains one of the best characters in the game. Joel should have died in a different way, he really looked like a retard compared to what he was in TLOU, he really never trusted somebody but now its different. Abby should have died at the end because what she did to one of the best characters in PS history. The graphics of this game are excellent but Neil Druckmann and the other creative directors MUST be fired after this trash game. They just literally took a dump on what TLOU had built. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was so excited to play this game, the first time I've ever been this excited in my life. Just for it to get ruined and to make me want to forget about this game and look for something else to be excited for. (And by the way, I thought the leaks wouldn't be as bad as they were and I was one of those people who got mad whenever someone said the game was bad, and defended it. So this just gives you perspective about how much I cared for this game.) I don't even know where to start. The only good thing about this game is the graphics, the graphics look AMAZING and ran really well on my PS4, which I thought would melt playing this. Now the bad stuff, and oh boy it's a lot. First of all, the overall "revenge" plot is just garbage. By the time I was finished with Nora I wanted to leave Seattle because I thought that is enough. You brutally killed enough WLF and Seraphites to make your message clear that you wanted revenge and did. Secondly, the characters in this game are flawed and your hopes to see development with them is just spat in your face. You can't just kill off characters just like that to try and be "bold". No, people are going to hate that and they do. It shows with these reviews and mine. For example, and perhaps the worst death I've ever seen in a video game, Joel. Naughty Dog thought it would be bold to kill one of the most beloved characters in the whole series too push the revenge narrative. And I should add that Ellie treats Joel like garbage in this game, (except for the flashback of the Museum.) And all Joel does it try to treat her with the upmost respect and Ellie is just a jerk to him. The whole thing where characters die out of nowhere is just a disappointing way to kill people. At least let them have their moment like Henry and Sam in the first game. That was a how you character off, it was heartbreaking and really made you think for awhile after it. With Joel it somewhat made me not sad but angry at how they treated him like garbage. Another example is jesse, I thought he was a okay character but a little mellow and not much personality, but an alright side character. Then for Abby just to kill him like that, all of that development for nothing, he is barely even mentioned for the rest of the game. And oh boy, the part I HATED the most about this game was how you had to play as Abby. NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY AS THE PERSON WHO TORTURED AND KILLED JOEL. And to extend it for 10+ hours?!? I mean come on, everyone I have seen play the game hated the part with Abby. For me, I was bored and hated her so much. The whole time you play as her you know what's going to happen so it's boring and seems like there's no point to even playing as her. The flashback of Abby with her dad and the Firefly hospital is what only should have made it to the game because it gives us the reason Abby wanted to kill Joel. The part where you meet Yara and Lev is just boring, they have no development whatsoever and are static characters. Getting the medical supplies for Yara at the hospital and the boss fight didn't even matter because she gets sprayed with bullets by WLF soldiers. (Another example of trying to be bold and killing people.) Neil Druckmann tried to have a bold and new approach to a game, and it didn't work. I now understand why the game is divisive. My heart hurts just writing this because I waited so long just for it to be ruined. I was looking forward to this for years. I remember how excited I was to learn that I was going to play in Seattle because I live in Washington. The part where I got to Seattle I was just bored. All you do in Seattle is just kill WLF and Seraphites. Lastly, the ending. Oh man this was just horribly executed. You leave your family and basically your kid to go find and kill Abby, but then just to not kill her? Like... what?!? Why? What is even the point of having this in the game? It doesn't make sense. When you come back to the farm after sadly sparing Abby, Dina and her kid is gone. You did all that and lost 2 fingers to lose the only thing you had left. God this game just broke me in a bad way. I know this is bold, but I want there to be a Part 3. And not to just continue the story, but to do this game justice. But the way the reviews are going I highly doubt this will happen. Neil Druckmann if you are reading this, you tarnished my, and MANY others used to be favorite franchise. It breaks my heart so much to wait so long for something so disappointing. Expand

    Character design 3/10
    Cinematics & Dialogue 9/10

Overall (Since it's mostly a story focused game) 3/10

-- Characters were bland and easily forgotten; they had no impact in their roles and were simply supportive characters to make the player feel less alone, they served no big purpose in the story
and they felt as though they were added only to kill off, which could've worked if they bothered making them matter more to the player, e.g. (Sam & henry in The Last of Us).
-- Story fell short due to having many plot-holes: (Big spoilers):

    - Multiple flashbacks felt unfitting and randomized at times, which took the player outside the immersive experience one should experience
    - Joel's death felt forced to illicit a poor shock experience which could've been executed better
(Either added value by learning more about Abby beforehand, or delayed further into the game)
    - Playing as Abby after a cliffhanger scene made the experience unenjoyable and most players agreed that her role took a very long part in the full game, fixing the issue could've been resolved with her role being played in future DLC or simply shortening her gameplay time. This resulted in mass outrage and fans were not happy with good reason. It's simply not fun to play as the antagonist that killed the previous loved main character in such a gruesome way, and finding any way to empathize with her was gone after her deed.
    - The ending is a cliche; revenge is bad, which is okay if it wasn't contradictory to itself. Abby left undeserving of mercy where Ellie lost everything dear to her without compensation. It's realistic but unsatisfying. A good story can be shocking, sad, and emotional without destroying what everyone loves, and it's unfortunate that Neil could not understand this point.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Really waited 7 years to play as Joel for about 5ish minutes, watch him get cucked, then play as Ellie for around half of the game. Then proceed to try to connect to Abby, a psychopath that the game really wants you to get attached to, and a child with no personality, and all of her **** friends for **** 5-6 hours while I really just want to get back to playing as Ellie, the person I payed to play as. Then get forced to try to kill Ellie while playing as Abby. I mean seriously? This game really wants me to be connected enough to a dry, unlikable character to the point where I am willing to beat the **** out of one of my favorite characters of all time. What a **** joke. The weird part of the game is though, is that there are really stellar, standout moments. The one that immediately comes to mind is Ellie's birthday museum visit, which is so well written that it really feels like something out of The Last Of Us 1. It's like all of the talented writers exclusively worked on the flashback scenes.

It baffles me how a game with such a weak and unsatisfyingly plot and ending can also have really great moments ( and they all pretty much happen exclusively between Joel and Ellie). Maybe it was a bad Idea to kill off Joel right away.

The ending is extremely weak and underwhelming, having the wimpiest fight between a hurt Ellie and a malnourished Abby. After challenging Abby to fight, Ellie stupidly puts her fingers in Abby's mouth, causing Ellie to have 2 fingers to be bitten off. Then she let's Abby go. What was the whole point of going to find Abby then?

What a horrible ending for Ellie's character. She made it clear that she doesn't want to end up alone in TLOU1, and ends up losing Joel, Dina, and Jesse's Baby (Potato was his name I think).
She isn't even able to carry one Joel's memory via the Guitar, as she can't play it due to her missing fingers.
And worst of all, after all of that she just **** let's Abby live,

What's the moral of this story? Murdering hundreds of people is a-okay except for if you're seeking revenge? I don't **** know.

Extremely disappointing to see large media outlets blame these low user ratings on people being "Trans-phobic, Homophobic, or Sexist" to distract the facts that this game is nowhere near the quality of the first game.

    A damn **** shame.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A game that manages to singlehandedly destroy the franchise (Story is discussed at the end).

    Gameplay and visuals:
The sequel nicely builds on top of the gameplay of the first game and adds some nice new features like 'squeeze-throughs', prone, dodge mechanic alongside new crafting recipes like suppressors and explosives arrows and a bunch of other meaningful upgrades that give a nice sense of progression. When in stealth, there definitely is a sense of tension sure, but it never truly feels enjoyable. Stealth kill animations are long and drawn out and quite cumbersome. In this part, the game relies on the sense of tension to keep you engaged. However, when things go sideways, that's where the gameplay shines, because then the tension and anxiety is dialled to 11. You have to evade and flee your enemies, or choose to engage them in firefights and fistfights which all feels incredibly grounded and visceral. It's a hell of an adrenaline kick.
However, if you thought the gameplay of the first game was alright, you'll find the gameplay of the second game an improvement, but not something that will change your mind.

Overall, the gameplay loop itself can range from being mediocre to highly engaging at times, but it best serves the purpose of complementing the game's grounded nature, and to bring forward the brutality of the violence you experience. Unlike other people claiming 'this game makes you feel bad for killing people', I did not feel that at all. The way the NPCs and AI interacts only serves to keep the game grounded and feel realistic, but it never evoked any sympathy from me towards them nor the dogs that I had to put down.
The graphics are phenomenal as always, the animations are just absolutely mind-blowing, the environment this time is much larger and varied; basically, the production value of this game is insane.

    Now, the story.
The story is one of the biggest dumpster fire I have ever seen. Neil Druckmann manages to do an astounding disservice to our beloved characters from the first game, whilst simultaneously abandoning everything that made the first game so amazing. The characters themselves are uninteresting, even though they have some great voice acting, their motives and behaviour at times borderline being insane and completely unstable. Any character that you end up liking in the slightest, suffers a terrible fate.
This game just feels dark and depressing for no reason, it has no meaning other than making you feel bad needlessly. Unlike the first game which, although was also quite bleak, there were genuine moments of warmth and solace, moments that were heart-warming, peaceful, and that allowed for some beautiful character development. Speaking of which, it's almost impossible to find any real character development in this game.

After Joel is killed like a dog by Abby, Ellie sets out to get her revenge, to find the WLF soldiers that played a part in his murder and take them down. Joel's death was handled so poorly, and executed in a way that was so appalling, that it is equivalent to spitting in the face of the fans of the first game.
Oh but that's not all, soon, you'll be sending a sizeable amount of the game controlling Abby, experiencing her past as well as the present. The game desperately wants to make you empathise with her character, but it falls so pathetically flat and on the contrary, just enrages you even more. By the end of my time playing as her, I couldn't give a rat's ass about her or her friends.

To make matters worse, when Ellie finally has a chance to kill Abby, she lets her go. I get that the game is trying to say that Ellie is fed up and traumatised by her quest of revenge, but it just comes up as stupid writing, considering Abby wouldn't have minded in caving Ellie's face in. So, in the end, it really was all for nothing.
By the end, not only is Ellie left traumatised, she loses Dina, as well her connection to Joel.

The flashbacks with Joel, are the best part of this game. When a dreaded narrative device such as a flashback outshines everything else in your game, that is only evident of the horrible writing and story of the game.

For a game that is so heavy on its narrative, and cinematic storytelling, a horrible story cannot be saved by its gameplay, which is this game has gotten such a low score from me.

This game is the proof that The Last of Us should have remained a stand-alone experience. Its funny how the first game, despite telling such a personal story of its characters, managed to leave the audience pondering over a much grander theme of humanity and survival, whereas the second game, whilst trying to do so much, conveys a contrived, overdone theme of 'cycle of revenge' (and that too extremely poorly).

Joel and Ellie were undoubtedly the heart and soul of this franchise, and this game manages to obliterate both of these things.
In the end, it really was all for nothing.

After experiencing the last of us 2 it not only makes you appreciate the first game more but it gives you a a sense of clarity when you realise the main writer departed with ND. Seems like the people that worked on part 2 didn’t have a clue what made the first game heartfelt and special. Even then you can’t completely criticise from it’s subjective problems, there are people still enjoying the game. Loopholes and Amateur Writing are the forefront of this games’ problem. Why didn’t Abby and her group kill Ellie and Tommy when they had the chance, no witnesses, less issues. Abby had no problem killing random people so what makes Ellie so special. Why did Joel allow himself to get ambushed so easily with Tommy. The disrespect shown to both Tommy and Joel symbolises why the game is receiving the hate that it is. People love to paint the “haters” as crybaby’s and homophobes, Joel’s death was not the problem, the problem was HOW it happened. There have been many games with LGBTQ representation that have been user reviewed in the highest regard. The fanboys have less and less ammo now that the game is out, the leaks were the whole truth and it doesn’t hold up as a good sequel. Not much to say about visuals, the game is beautifully well done, puzzles have really made me appreciate the gameplay. Expand

Unfortunately, I found poorly written in comparison to the first one with many plot holes and characters that made the player feel forced to feel something towards them. This caused the story to take a twist I was not expecting and made it feel like a drag to play towards the later half of the game. If you loved the feeling and story of the first game the last of us 2 completely turns a different direction so do not expect it to be as good as the original. I would wait until it goes on sale or possibly save your money for another game. The game however runs smoothly and looks amazing with GREAT visual gameplay. No spoilers. The three points are for the graphics and the amazing score. The missing seven points are for the story and gameplay. If you're counting your fingers while wondering at that math, it's because I value certain aspects of games more than others. Deal with it.

Gameplay feels old and tanky. The open enviroments feel empty and unnecessary compared to the tightness and intelligent world building of the first game. They add some new elements to combat and exploration but not enough to make it feel fresh or interesting.

This game is so depressing. The characters just moan and complain and are always sullen. There's no emotional payoff to either new or returning characters. An early scene is so needlessly cruel, callous, and undeserved from a storytelling perspective, that there's just no excitement to continue, only dread and a wonder at what horrible thing will happen next.

In the first game, when Joel made certain decisions, there was a grey area, room to debate the ethics of his decisions because Joel did those things out of his connection to Ellie that was developed slowly during the entire game. The game was heavy and serious at times, but with room for punny jokes, lighthearted banter, and quiet moments of wonder. During key emotional scenes throughout that game, we always empathized because we had an emotional attachment to the characters (whether positive or negative) through good storytelling and build up.

The story crescendos and climaxes in the sequel are shallow and undeserved compared to the storytelling that leads up to them. Characters sometimes make decisions seemingly just to shock the player, rather than basing them in logic or the personality of the character that makes them. I felt no connection to the new characters, and only a weird sympathy for returning characters, wondering what made them so dull and lifeless during the time between the two games.

The early parts of the story (except the very first gorgous scene during the opening credits) do nothing to get the player excited to go on another adventure in this universe, and never improves. It's a slog with no enjoyment or payoff. It's like the developer just wanted to make us feel bad and hopeless and depressed.

As a huge fan of the 1st game, this is such a letdown after so much anticipation.

I read hundreds of stupid comments such as, "I think that most of the hate is coming from the fact that Ellie is gay", "You guys are hating on this game purely because they killed Joel." and "I saw many critics on the second main character Abby, which is totally a fully reveal of the hatred against those women who have a body image which doesn’t fit the Standard norm...." I believe that if you enjoyed the game, good for you, I really wanted to enjoy it, but some story decisions presented here made that impossible. I want to first get it out of the way that from a technical aspect, this is a masterpiece. I mean the graphics, sound design, level design, and score. Now let's talk about the gameplay. I am very mixed on this. The gameplay on The Last of Us II is nothing revolutionary and barely does enough to differentiate itself from the first game, but the gameplay is almost always enjoyable and entertaining, only sometimes getting repetitive. Now the real divider, the story. I do not think killing Joel is necessarily a bad decision. As a lot have pointed out, it makes the world feel believable. But in the way that the game actually played out, Joel's death sucked all the life out of the game. The really bad: We should not have to play as Abby. I think Naughty Dog just though like, Joel killed Abby's father, so the players will connect to her, right. Wrong. Of course, Joel has done immoral things in the past, but these things are part of his character, and we love his character either way. The fallout of his death also caused one of the worst character decisions in the game, Ellie. Ellie is now a shell of her former self, she has no character and just kills the whole game. I just think that the premise of a revenge plot is not a strong pull for a game because the only way it can end is Ellie killing Abby. If not, then the whole plot will feel like it was for nothing, this was what happened. If Ellie had actually killed Abby, that would have been a bit better but it would have felt like Ellie had not learned anything and her character would have developed nothing from the start of the game. The side characters are kind of useless and add nothing to the story. I think that for The Last of Us II to have been a good game, the writers should have thought of another hook for the game. I think that most of the people are tricked into liking this, thinking it is a deep, dark and depressing game. Those things don't make a good game, a edgy game isn't necessarily a good one. Interesting and dynamic characters make a good game. I'm not the biggest fanboy of the first Last of Us, I don't hate this game because Ellie is gay or some idiot things people might say, I didn't have fanfiction that this game didn't live up to, I wanted a game that respected while still changing and growing the characters in ways that feel believable and true to the first game, sadly, The Last of Us II fails at every fundamental aspect of storytelling and while its presentation and tone is stunning, I cannot bring myself to give a high score to a game that didn't give me a reason to invest with the characters and story. On its own it is a mediocre third person shooter with barebones stealth elements and one button combat. It is poorly paced and downright nonsensical at points. It was such a beatiful game... little details and all, so gorgeous it was insane, I get what you tried to do Neil, but Im afraid I didnt get nearly the same feeling I did from the first, I waited awhile for this game and gave you guys the benefit of the doubt when all this stuff was coming out on youtube, but it just didnt do it, it was tear jerking at the end because of everything that was going on but it left me with a confused mind, I just didnt see the same energy that the first one had, I may be trippin or somethin. Neil it was a great game, I see the direction you tried to go with but it was just the writers, too many moments I had where I didnt give a fk about the other side of characters and felt it was just there so you would feel bad about what the future holds for a certain individual, but you have to understand nobody actually sees this reality because you're only one person, nobody knows what someone else went through to get them into the position they are in at the moment, so the whole guilt trip thing doesnt feel right especially "near" the ending. Its a well thought out game but I just feel like it was TOO thought out instead of being the game it shouldve been, the story couldve been SOOOO much better, but I guess what the maker makes, is what we take. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll start by saying that from a technical standpoint what they've managed to squeeze out of 7 year old hardware is phenomenal. The soundtrack and the fluidity of the games animations and character movement are top shelf also, however sadly for me this is where it ends.

The story is incredibly poorly written and the ending made me question the whole point of it, and not in a good way. The treatment of some of the legacy characters is infuriating because of how they act completely differently from the first game. Joel and Tommy seem to have suffered from the worst case of amnesia recorded in human history and this is completely out of character and makes zero sense as they would never act the way they did in that certain scenario. Some of the dialogue used in game made me roll my eyes in disbelief ("Bigot sandwiches" and "Brainless brother duo") as its just bad and ultimately cringe-worthy.

The newly added jump button is implemented badly and seems to be there as a filler but the combat has improved from the first one and the newly added vertical scenarios make some combat situations interesting. Crafting is identical to its predecessor with the addition of a silencer that can help greatly during battle although the bow is still the stealth weapon of choice.

Sadly though in my opinion this game pales in comparison to its predecessor for its storytelling and character development and that's a damn shame. I really can't recommend this game for anything other than its visuals and audio but as we all know it takes more than a pretty paint job and a nice song to impress some people, myself included.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This 7 years of waiting just didn´t worth it. I didn´t saw the leaks, so I felt very shocked and cheated when the Joel death scene came up. In the trailers they make you believe that he will go with you in your revenge mission. That NEVER happens...at all. And telling that is to avoid the spoilers, is just plain lying. One thing is avoiding the spoilers, and other thing is completely lying to the consumers showing them something they will never have. Joel dies in the most gruesome way in the first 2 hours or less, in hands of a character that is totally new and that no one cares about. Mr Neil Druckmann said that this sequel will honour Ellie and Joel. I really didn´t saw ANY of that. He disrespected both of his characters, turning a badass survivor into a stupid old man, and a charismatic girl into an adult with almost no emotions.

What bothers me the most are this specific points:

    1. They want to make you believe that Joel was bad and that he deserved that. Yeah, he killed lots of people, but for surviving. Not because it was funny or cool for him . He was killing bad people who tried to killed him and Ellie during ALL the first game. Have you heard the audios and find the notes in TLOUS? THERE WAS NO CURE PEOPLE! The fireflies kept experimenting with inmune people and killing them for nothing, also they were going to kill Joel. THEY WEREN´T GOOD PEOPLE!!! So, for Joel are consequences but for them not? If you take this whole plot of actions and consequences, well I´m sorry but Abby´s father deserved to die, because he was killing innocent people to try to find a vaccine. This is what they are trying to say, but why it has to affect the main character that everybody loves?

    2. They try to make you empathize with Abby, showing you OH LOOK! she plays with dogs, OH LOOK Abby and his father. Sorry but I just couldn´t empathize with her. She was a mean person. She enjoyed making people suffer. And also her friends told her she should stop killing. SHE IS THE VILLAIN HERE! Stop pretending she is not! And after all she has done. She deserves being forgiven? Is this a joke? She killed Joel, she killed Jesse, left Tommy blind and also she was going to kill Dina, and after all of this Ellie is like...meh..I´ll let you go (?) It doesn´t make any sense!

    3. Druckmann and some people think that every one that doesn´t like this game is an incel, and homophobe or a hater bot or a crying baby . It´s not like that. What bother us is how the story was handled after all they achieved with Tlous 1. They wanted to kill Joel? FINE! But not in suck a stupid way, taking him out of character. He could smell a trap from miles away, he didn´t even helped a family in the prologue of the game to protect his family, but here, him and Tommy are giving all of their personal info to a group of armed people (?) As I said before. They are old, but they are not stupid. I love the diversity of the game, the inclusion of LGTB+ community, the fact that Abby is buff as hell, I think that those factors are AMAZING, the only problem here...is the story.

It´s sad that a game with such beautiful environments, gameplay mechanics and music, is not good enough for a lot of people just for the story. I finished TLOUS 1 very quick because I was immerse in the story and I just couldn´t stop playing. In this game I was really having a hard time to continue. Specially in the Abby part. And people who says that they owe nothing to the fans, they are so wrong. They owe everything to the fans, because they are where they are because of them. A good example of treating the fans with respect is the development of Sonic the Movie. I hope mr Druckmann can learn a bit from them. You can have a lot of sales, but that doesn´t mean that every costumer is enjoying the game. People bought the game because of the trust in Naughty Dog, but it was worthless.

Where do I begin? Joel previously left a family pleading for help on the side of the road. Joel saw through an ambush and ran a man over. He was willing to kill both Henry and Sam and yelled at Ellie when she intervened. He's a 25 year apocalyptic veteran with hundreds if not thousands of kills and murders under his belt.
Yet he voluntarily saved Abby despite a hoard of infected all rushing them. He volunteered personal information to her and treated her as if she were a guest of his and offered for her to come back to camp and resupply. He dropped his guard and followed her back to her place to meet up with her people. That's not what Joel does or who he is.

We then take over the game as Abby AS JOEL'S KILLER and play 40% of the game as her with the intent of killing Ellie. The story of the first game is actually detrimental to the story of this one. The writing in the first had us grow with her, bond with her, and become family with her. You now want us as the player to actively try to kill her?? Without establishing any context beforehand, just out of the blue murders Joel. No amount of writing will ever get us to see things from her point of view after that. First impressions take seconds and changing that viewpoint can take years. No amount of playing as Abby has changed my mind that she killed Joel the way that she did and so soon in the game.

The first game was THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME and Naughty Dog just shat all over us. Neil wanted a divisive game about hate, said it would polarize the fans, and said repeatedly the game is not fun. F this. How is a game about hate, violence, and revenge going to end on a note of mercy and compassion? It's very clear that the writers of this game are not the same writers from the first.

Shame, if the game was gonna be this bad I would of not of wanted it to be made. For anyone who has played the first I beg them not to waste their hard earned money on this especially during a pandemic, if you do you will be disappointed. The only thing I can admit the graphics and gameplay are an improvement over the first but that story is the biggest middle finger to fans of the first game, they don’t care if you got attached to Joel or Tommy and they make you play as some Abby chick that spoiler warning....... Abby does an Andrew Ryan’s to Joel head with a golf club very early in the game and you have to play as her more than Ellie. Ellie speaking of her you have to bring her new boring forced loved interest Dina. The only reason why she’s there to begin with is because SJW’s and the LGBT community have to force us with content we don’t want. Dina is so plain you don’t even worry about her one bit unlike Riley from Left behind, she’s the perfect love for Ellie and their first love is poetic. If anything Maria should of went instead of Dina since Tommy goes to Seattle. You will cringe during the Abby scenes and you will be even more unsatisfied with the ending. Last of us should of only been a one game franchise. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished the game on survivor difficulty. I’ll start with the things I liked about the game. First of all, it looks beautiful. I stopped multiple times throughout to take in the environment. Pretty amazed they got it to run at a near-constant 30fps. Secondly, I really enjoyed the flashbacks between Joel and Ellie; especially the in the museum. When Joel had Ellie put on a helmet and pretend to take off into space, it brought tears to my eyes. What a cool moment.

I also enjoyed some of the new additions to the game. Having dogs be able to track your scent was pretty cool. I had fun using the crossbow, and that basement hospital fight against that giant mutated infected (or Rat King, as it’s called) was pretty awesome.

Sadly, that’s pretty much where my enjoyment ends. I’m not even sure where to start. They did Joel a huge disservice in the way that he died. It is an insult to think that he would abandon all of his past survival skill, knowledge, experience, etc. and mosey on in to this unknown group’s location. How do you go from: ‘I’ve been on both sides’, ‘I’ve struggled for a long time with surviving’, and ‘Don’t trust anyone but yourself’ to: ‘Greetings random group! I will blindly put my faith in you and lower my guard! This is my brother Tommy, and I’m Joel! I killed a doctor that was working on a cure!’ It just doesn’t make sense.

That brings me to Abby. Holy crap, how unlikeable of a character can Naughty Dog make? You expect me to give a crap about this character at all? I love the feeble attempts ND makes to try so hard to get us to sympathize with her. Let’s see things from her P.O.V and look at her reaction to her dad’s death. Mmm, nope, sorry, don’t care. That ‘shock’ fell short by the way. It was super predictable that she was related to the doctor. Every time I was forced to play as her, it was a struggle to keep going. Why the HELL would you force me to play as Joel’s killer? That 10 hour+ ‘side quest’ culminating at the showdown between the WLF and Scars was awful. At no point did I ever want to play as Abby. And why do I care about some stupid power struggle between these two factions? It was incredibly boring. And to think that in the end, Ellie didn’t even get revenge. I understand the whole ‘act of mercy’ angle, and that Ellie told Joel at the end she was ready to try and forgive him, and that she thought of him when she chose not to drown Abby. But WTF. She escaped death how many times to hunt Abby down?! And then she was going to make peace with the fact that she had to let Abby live. But oh wait, she’s having PTSD because Abby is still alive, so she leaves Dina and JJ (whilst knowing that Dina won’t be there when Ellie gets back), so she tracks down Abby AGAIN. And then she’s like...NAH it’s fine, get out of here ya little rascal :) I felt very little satisfaction by the end of the game. Very disappointing.

And the relationships in this game. I love Ellie, but I didn’t give a crap about her relationship with Dina. The thing about Joel and Ellie’s relationship in the first game that made it so special? It happened organically, overtime, onscreen. They wanted nothing to do with each other at first. But you, the player, got to see their dynamic change gradually throughout the game, and it was interesting. But with Ellie and Dina, they’re just into each other like it’s something we already should’ve known about. The most backstory we get about them is from Ellie’s entries into her journal, which is a poor way to try and build character relationships. The same can be said for Abby and Owen. At no point was I interested in anything they were saying or doing with each other.

And some smaller grievances. It was really cool in the first game how when Joel pointed his gun, you heard his breathing get much louder, like he was scared and on edge. They got rid of that here which stunk. Also, it was cool at first how when upgrading your gun, they would show you making the addition, but that got old quickly, especially if I was trying to make multiple additions to the same gun. I just felt like I wanted a fast forward button the entire time.
I also wanted to talk about Tommy running off on his own to go find Abby after Joel died. Uh, why did he do that? Tommy knows Ellie. He knew that she wanted revenge just as badly. He clearly did not want any harm to come to her. Why did he not go with her? Wouldn’t that be the best way to ensure survival?

In conclusion: The original Last of Us is one of my favorite games. I can’t believe they dropped the ball so hard on Part 2. Abby is awful, unlikeable, and boring. The fact that I had to spend so much time playing as this character was terrible. I replayed 1 more than once at this point. I have 0 interested in ever replaying 2, because there’s so much of the game I would want to skip over. It’s so disheartening to see how bad this all turned out...

Actually, that is the reason why games & movies fail when it comes to the audience “expectations”. It doesn’t work that way, it’s about writing a good story, not to use this game as a shock value. Pointless game to play, better games than this. Game Of The Year? Not even close. Masterpiece? Yeah, this is not a masterpiece at all, this is like a fan fiction what will happen if it this way, really? I mean, writing a story to be realistic really doesn’t work either, no one really cares. People want a good story & character along with the journey, not a fan fiction. Plus, the agenda in video games needs to stop, this definitely have a lot of politics. The game over stays it’s welcome by having an obscenely long campaign for what actually happens and could’ve very well been much better if the filler was scrapped, the story was more organized, and characters were more fleshed out.

Seeing beloved characters getting punched, kicked, murdered in the most horrendous disgusting ways one can only imagine (and literally spit on by the creative lead) is not my kind of enjoying rare spare-time. Slashing through hordes of enemies only to spare the goal target in the end is not good writing. At least have the balls to let the player decide! But then you can’t build a sequel with Abbey in the lead I get it.
You see when Glenn got his head bashed in by Negan - that was the same disgusting stuff noone wanted to see and it not only killed the character but the soul and heart of the franchise. You can like this game of course but it’s definitely not that masterpiece the forces it to be. For all these 15 out of 10 "critics" praises it actually deserves the 0 to even the odds. I just cannot comprehend how would they ever tell their true names knowing they are men who are being hunted by many people with grudges. i mean they should have changed their true names (Joel and ellie as well) in the 1st place once they started their lives in Jackson don't you think? Upgrade mechanics are useless. You can basically speedrun the whole game without even paying attention to the details. Seattle is a city of writers where everybody had to write down notes before they died, it looks stupid and unrealistic. Game lacks voice recorder similar to the first part.
The plot of the game is simple and while it could be really good if the writers managed to develop new characters properly. That is unfortunately not the case in TLOU2. Newly intoduced heroes lack motivation, their highlights are mostly cliche which leads player to not being able to establish the proper connection with them. While Abby seems like a solid character at first, her decisions are questionable and her plot armor is annoying. Yara and Lev could be much more reasonable characters than they are. Everyone's backstory around Abby feels like a filler.

The sequel however, does no justice to the original intent of TLOU which explains the heavy backlash the game is receiving from users. The moment TLOU2's story line lost sight of the first game's original concept, it deviated from the very reason it was critically acclaimed in 2013. Overall, it's a shame that people waited for a prequel for 7 long years, while falsely believing that the developers of the game actually understood the meaning behind what they once created.

The last of Us part II

Это (The last of us 2) нельзя назвать ни игрой ни фильмом.
The legend of zelda BOTW ?

I trust Naughty Dog to do a part 3 with abby as the protagonist and to have what the last of us world lacks to find a shot along with the fireflies. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
