This is not so much a sequel, but Neil Druckmann’s little fetishised project of sexual depravity and god awful character & world building. We waited 7 years for this manure. I’ll give it a 3 because the graphics were fairly decent.

First of all the leaks, then the fact that it feels like a disjointed interactive movie... And for the love of GOD Joel's death was unnecessary, brutal, and **** over a character that made the game loved in the first place. I'm sorry but the graphics or game play aren't even that good for a story driven game with an ancestor such as the masterpiece that the first game was, to be considered moderately good. It's not a hateful 0 by any way, but it's a well earned 3. Is it my love for the game that's making me drop the score so low? Yes. But if the fans for the game don't love it then who is this really made for? Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly, for a franchise that's beloved more for it's storytelling and well written characters, there's almost nothing redeeming about this game. It kills one the most important and loved game characters in such a meaningless fashion, and to top it off, it forces you to control, and fails to make you empathize with the very drab and poorly written character that effortlessly cut down Joel. It further rubs salt in the wound by failing to satiate your need for revenge, by having Ellie suddenly have a change of heart and let the ever so horrible and unlikable Abby go. You can tell the creators pandered more to the fringe and widely disliked online personalities like Anita Sarkeesian, and had no issues with ignoring real fans of both gaming and these characters. What made Ellie such a great character was not because she was gay, but rather that she was beautifully and masterfully written. Her being gay didn't define her, but rather helped flesh out an already believable character. It felt natural. The characters added to this game feel forced in their design, and are one dimensional, as if their only defining traits are their sexuality , or gender. There's absolutely nothing appealing about them, and it makes it difficult to like, or empathize with these characters. Ellie, Joel, Tommy, along with a handful of new characters were perfect, but as a whole, they missed the mark with what made the first game so great. If you were a fan of the first game, save yourself the disappointment, or at least lower your expectations drastically before playing this. The best we can do is pretend it's a horribly written fanfic, and only acknowledge that the first game exists.

    Pros:
-Existing characters still likable, and offer up an amazing performance
-Some of the better graphics on the PS4 behind maybe God of War
-Music and sound design is out of this world and creates an immersive experience

    Cons:
-For a game that relies on telling a good story, it just seems thrown together, as it does no justice for franchise defining characters
-Most new characters are just generally unlikable or poorly written (with the exception of Dina and Jesse)
-TLoU has never been highly regarded for it's gameplay, and it hasn't improved in the sequel
-AI is still extremely bad, as it was in the first game
-Forcing the player to assume control of a poorly written one dimensional character like Abby

This is where Last of Us Part 2 becomes a total train wreck as it forcefully introduces a new female led character which the entire story will revolve around. This new character completely relies on destroying the establish characters in order to give her any meaning in the story.

As you get further into the story it will just get worst with uninteresting characters and infuriating events.

If you are a fan of the original story and plan to play it (or watch it) be prepare to have it be stained with frustration and disappoint when your beloved characters are use to introduce a new main character that you totally wanted for a sequel about Joel and Ellie...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    Graficos 10/10, Jugabilidad 7/10, Historia 2/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I created an account right after finishing the game just to write a review on this travesty. I have never seen such a massive disconnect between a game's fidelity and its narrative outside of indie games (which generally tend to have great narratives but lack the budget to provide outstanding visuals).

After waiting for 7 years, the worst has come to pass and Neil Druckmann has killed off yet another series due to his frankly unbelievable retconning of character's personalities; Joel and Tommy in particular feel as if aliens are wearing their skin and masquerading as them, making bone-head decision after bone-head decision.

Newly introduced characters are about as dry and unlikable as they come, with the exception of Jesse who has some great moments. Dina has the impact of a forgettable, throwaway background NPC. Speaking of forgettable, I wish I could forget about the 10-12 hours I spend playing as the game's main villain, Abby, after she brutally massacres the alien pretending to be the first game's beloved protagonist, Joel, after the alien humanoid saves her life.

Plot holes aplenty in this adventure, ranging from "mildly infuriating" to "absolutely infuriating, why did I waste time and money I cannot get back on this game?" Whether its Joel and Tommy announcing to a group of armed strangers their true identities, or Ellie finally tracking down Abby yet again after killing hundreds of people who had no direct involvement in Joel's murder - only to shy away from closing the deal because it's "not what Joel would have wanted" (despite claiming herself that Joel would be "halfway to Seattle" if it was her or Tommy that was killed) and letting Abby get away with Lev and two free extra fingers! What a steal!

Visually, the game is phenomenal. What an immense accomplishment by the environmental artists at Naughty Dog. I urge them to seek employment elsewhere, and escape the sinking ship as fast as possible. Gameplay is dated and boring, but I'll give the game 3 pity points for the amazing scenery.

So in summary, 3/10! A little something for everyone.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a fan of the original game, I was looking forward to this sequel ever since it was first announced. I enjoyed the open-ended conclusion of the first game and the moral dilemma it created, so I honestly thought that a sequel wasn't necessary. However, my excitement to continue Joel and Ellie's story was evident and I couldn't wait for the sequel to come out. Now here I am, having experienced most of the game, and I can say for certainty that Naughty Dog messed up BIG TIME. The Last of Us' gameplay is the same as the last game, if not a little improved, the graphics are beautiful and the tone of the game is worthy of its setting. HOWEVER, The Last of Us is and has always been a game centered around its story, and boy is the story and its characters the worst part of the game. The characters that we came to love in the original game, the characters whose story was supposed to be expanded upon in this sequel are disrespected in the worst possible way imaginable. It is a slap to the face by Neil Druckman, who is clearly projecting his own agendas onto this game. The worst part was making me play as the girl(?) who hurts the main characters of the story and trying to make me like her, when in my mind, she's already irredeemable. The story itself is full of plot holes, inconsistencies, out-of-character moments, plot devices, dubious morality, unnecessary scenes (some of them disgusting), and an annoying theme of vengeance that doesn't work well with the ending, which made absolutely no sense and leaves the player angry for having gone through hours of gameplay for no payoff. Joel and Ellie's story ended in the worst possible way. Nothing like the original game and there was simply no respect for what the fans wanted. Expand

Gameplay-wise its just the same as its predecessor

The only downside is the Story.
Story is what made the Last of Us Game of the Year because of the connection between Ellie and Joel as they go through hardships and adventure and that what builds the meaning of the Title of the game. but here not only they kill character you love in the last game they also pushed you to play the murderer and be sympathetic with them.

Im so disappointed with the story seeing that scene made me to drop my controller and think if continue the game.... for me that's a bad sign to start the story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The game did feel like a Last of Us game, but that's not a compliment. After 7 years, Naughty Dog did little to improve or even change the gameplay mechanics. They added some things, yes, but there was no significant enhancement of gameplay.
For a game that is mainly story-driven, the story was downright disgusting, making the whole game a waste of time and money. It was a slap in the face for fans of the original. It wasn't fun. I had to force myself to finish the game since I wasted so much money in the buying the collector's edition. The story itself wasn't shocking. What is shocking is that the creators of this game didn't stop to think how ridiculously bad the story was during its production.
In my opinion, there's nothing positive to this game other than the visuals, sound, and acting. Nothing groundbreaking. The only thing that broke (other than the obvious spoiler) is my trust in Naughty Dog, Sony, and so-called professional video game review websites, who repeatedly tried to sway people away from the leaks and towards playing the game "with an open mind".
It's sad to see this game do so poorly. I don't even want a Last of Us television show anymore if this is what the creators think is their best work. Neil D has become the new D&D of Game of Thrones. It's sad that he thinks all this hate is a sign of his success.
It's disappointing that people involved in Naughty Dog see the user score as a joke. They can't take any criticism and refuse to believe their work is less than groundbreaking.
This game did not flow well at all. In the end, nothing in either game mattered. It led to nothing.
The Last of Us is the new Game of Thrones Season 8, The Star Wars sequel trilogy, and anything else that had a bad sequel that ruined the franchise. This was like a direct to video sequel.

    TLDR
You really don't need to play this game. It's a disappointment. The PR was a disaster. Naughty Dog is done.

I’m not going to slam the game completely and say the whole game was a let down because I thought the graphics were great and the gameplay is decent however the story is horrendous at best. They completely discredit everything this community loved about the first game and completely destroy the legacy and image of the first game. This game took an awful turn within the first 3 hours and after this huge slap in the face of an event happened the game continues to disgrace and spit in the face of all fans by making the characters we love and built such a bond with in the first game appear to be the “bad guys” of this game. And as if that’s not enough you got to play as a character that everyone who plays the game that was a fan of the first game despises for over 7 hours and you are forced to sit through a force feeding of an attempt to sympathize with the worst character in the game. This game tries so hard to suck up to those who play the victim in today’s society so hard just to be a good guy that it completely misses the mark and disrespected all the fans and players that have got this company where they are in the gaming industry and it’s pathetic truly. I’ve never been so disappointed in a game in my life. How can you treat your fans and community that put you on top this poorly and deliver something this pitiful. Don’t even get me started on the bugs and glitches. You know a game is bad when it bugs this much and nobody talks about it because of the plot holes and the lack of any actual intuitive and realistic storylines. The amount of hypocritical storytelling and contradictions with character traits and decisions is ridiculous and if anyone wants to try to say this isn’t reason enough to dislike the game I got many more reasons too. This game just makes you feel bad bad, bad and when you finally start feeling a bit better, it kills or cripples one of the few remaining character you care about and for what, a message? I have no idea what this game was trying to say...maybe i'm just stupid or i need someone to explain the whole point of the game to me, because apparently the game didn't do a very good job.

Gameplay: like the first game but slightly better stealth and movement, not gonna rave about it, it works. Enemies reactions are really really fast, and they'll kinda stunlock you if you get caught out in the open, it can get annoying but luckily you can just run past 75% of encounters (not that i did, but it's possible) with almost no issue on hard so...why bother? Kinda boring at times too...

WARNING!!!: If you care AT ALL about any of the characters in the first game, (especially Joel) or even just wanna be able to play the first game without havin' to taste the teaspoon of piss that is, the memory of this game, just please give it a miss...for your own sake

Despite the spoilers and scrutiny towards the game's story, the gameplay has improved immensely from the first game. The story just did not appeal to most of the audience, as it feels somewhat disingenuous and tarnishes the legacy of (some of) the characters from the first game. Additional and more improved (refined) gameplay mechanics and graphical capabilities have something new to offer, yet it feels familiar. It's a very pretty game...
But there's no good reason to buy it for the story, though. You can easily watch playthroughs online and experience the game without having to spend full price for it; because it's something you (might) regret buying. You won't miss out on much. You can definitely save your money for a more worthy contender. Congratulations, Naughty Dog! You made another well-made albeit controversial game. Take note though; the team worked really hard on this game despite the harsh working conditions that they faced. Mr. Vice President surely has some skeletons in his closet now.

Last of us 2 kinda sucks. It's so **** boring. I don't care about Ellie or Dina. The people you kill are supposed to be "real people with names" but there's no option to talk to them or figure out another way. Just kill them. Whatever. Whatever. The director Neil Druckmann is so in love with himself that he's in the game 3 times. Once as credited writer and director in the opening. Once as a villain npc. And once as a rare collector's card. **** you. You love the smell of your own ass. You're no Hideo Kojima. Even Kojima knows not to piss off his **** fans.

This game starts with a very brief glimpse of life in Jackson, Colorado and then immediately you're thrust into a revenge mission which seemingly lasts the remainder of the game. The intro is so short that I feel sorry for the animators who created the town of Jackson. There's absolutely no time given to breath and play around in a town of respite before it's all taken away from you and you're sent on a revenge mission, one you don't really want to go on. And other characters join, seemingly, for no other reason than "why not?" This is so incredibly boring, and a lazy story setup. Last of us 1 sent us on a long adventure across the country and was visually and thematically different from each location. I'm six hours in on last of us 2 and I'm still running around downtown Seattle, exploring pockets of set pieces, and just looting and killing creatures and people, for no reason. Ellie could easily capture and question one of these enemy NPCs to find what she's looking for, but instead she decides to just wing it, and look for her objectives by eye.

The graphics and the gameplay are amazing, but I just don't care. The story is just doing nothing for me. And I shouldn't have to wait six hours for it to finally get good. I'll play it to completion, but right now, I would not recommend it. It just feels like such a chore to play.

I've finished the game, and my score still stands. It's amazing technically speaking, but I know it's because of worker's crunch time. The story, for what it is, is told fine I guess. By the end, I just felt empty, like Ellie. I wanted more from this story. And we didn't get a second of time as Joel, except the beginning. I don't know why they decided to go in this direction, or why Sony approved it, but here we are... Last of us 2 is a divisive, polarizing game. It succeeds in many facets, and fails in others. This will be a damaging game to many. I don't see Druckmann or Naughty Dog recovering from this from the majority of their fans. While fun, I dread its story. But sales will sure condemn this game a success.

On the positive side the graphics are fantastic (although my fan on the PS4 is working overtime) and technically it's impressive. The gameplay mechanics has improved a little from the original but essentially it's the same feel. One surprise though is that large parts of game are rather dull and there's a feel that the game has been padded out to make it longer.
However....the story. It's terrible. The game basically tries to deconstruct everything about the first game which was so beloved without any redeeming positives, characters now make completely uncharacteristic decisions just to facilitate certain plot points and the plot itself has large holes in it. Its misery is relentless and the players are constantly forced to make decisions they don't want to only then for the game to make them feel guilty.
I feel like I've spent £50 on a game for it to spend hours telling me off. The game apparently is about hate, the only hate I see is ND towards its own fanbase.

The story is okay for about 30 minutes and then it just completely goes to **** Whoever wrote this garbage needs to be replaced because it is honestly what ruined this from being a true 10/10. They threw away basically all of the original story and took a hard left. I mean that politically as well. First of all, this game had the potential to be special, as people were generally hyped for the game. It was one of the most anticipated PS exclusive for a while. While the game received marginal improvements, most notably in graphics and combat mechanics, it failed in delivering one key factor that made the first Last of Us great ; the story.

Most of the character felt out of sync when compared to the first title and new characters are even more difficult to relate, making the game feel like a mess at best. especially considering this is the sequel of the beloved first Last of Us.

I never wanted this game to be trashed like this, as I adored the first one, and I think the same goes to other fans of this franchise. But seeing how things have unfold, I really wanted to give a reminder to them that this isn't how you carry the legacy of a game that so many loved and admired for its character, world-building and storytelling. They mishandled all the wait after 7 years like they mishandled their character in the sequel.

At the end of the day, instead of feeling like a love letter , this feels like a huge middle finger to the first game. And I think this justifies why a lot of people are upset. Anyway that's what I've come to believe and I think that's enough.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm not sure where to start... The game is a big mixed bag for me but ultimately disappoints.

First let me talk about what i like about the game.

The graphical, and visual the look of this game is stunning. it enhances everything that the first game had, in terms of looks. its a beautiful game.
The game has fluid play, and is very fun for stealth based playthroughs.

Now lets talk about the main reasons for my score.

The game went from a zombie type survival game to a walking dead, human vs human game that forgot vital game-play elements that made the first one good.
The story is abysmal, characters are uninteresting , and I felt like i was forcing myself to finish the game by time i hit the what i consider the half-way point.
i felt helpless being force to play half the game as a character i had no interest in, and at one point raged at.
The Adult scenes (that i'm not against in games) felt very out of place, and felt as if they were added as an after thought.
I also felt that the LGBTQ+ content ( not Ellie's relationship) in the game was shoehorned in, and honestly felt like it like pandering to our community.
Furthermore the final nail in the coffin was the end of the game. I was left with a feeling of disappointment, and regret. i felt that i didn't get the ending we deserved/wanted, and overall i felt cheated.

i gave this game a 3 because in all honestly from a standalone POV with no prior knowledge of the first one. i feel like this could have been a great game. However armed with the knowledge and feelings for characters of the first game, and the lore behind whats happening in the world, this game just dose not do it for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am rating this game a 3 for the (1) acting, which is admittedly seller, (2) the graphics and audio which is second to none, the (3) effort that clearly went into creating the world of this game. Unfortunately, the compliments stop there. While the actual acting and some of the dialogue is good, the writing is absolutely atrocious. If you hated The Last Jedi and season 8 of Game Of Thrones, then you'll hate this game. The inane choice of killing off one of the main characters in the first 2 hours of this game is already ridiculous, but the incredibly disrespectful way this game treats that character is horrible. After that, I had no motivation whatsoever to keep playing, and this isn't even bringing up the later sex scene that is the most uncomfortable thing I've ever seen in my life. One last thing to mention is that the gameplay and controls have barely changed or improved from the first game, from 2013. Bottom line, don't buy this game if you cared at all about the first game, but maybe if you don't care about story and characters and only care about impressive graphics then this might do it for you. But frankly, this game is so overly long and frequently boring, even the graphics probably won't do it for you. Expand

Had High hopes for the last of us 2, I really don't understand how critics can play this game and think to themselves this is a 10 out of 10 story. It's like they were in awe by graphics and didn't see any of the plot holes or that there was ZERO character growth in this game. For instance, the bond between Ellie and Joel progresses throughout the first game in many tense situations, but there is no character development in this story. its just a revenge story after revenge story. When your characters don't grow what is the point of sitting through 25 hours. Yes, it's gritty but how does that make a good game when there is no point to the grit. Like if Ellie is going to just let Abby getaway what is the point of killing all these people through the entire game. Why does your conscience decide to kick in after nearly dying and getting 2 fingers bitten off? I really don't know how you can say the gameplay was interesting either if anything they took out puzzles and looking for ladders so all you end up doing is rushing through ai just to get to the next story section why are the ai so badly programmed that I can rush through without having to kill but one or two mobs you think 7 years of making they would realize it was an issue Expand

They kill of your favourite character Joel from the first game in the most sadistic way possible only 2 hours into the 30 hour game then force you to play as their murderer Abby for a whole half of it in an attempt to make you somehow sympathise and justify their reasons for doing so. The other half of the game is played as your other favourite character from the first game Ellie who acts uncharacteristically throughout going on a violent murder spree across the country trying to find and get revenge on Abby for killing Joel. You are forced to play as abby to beat up Ellie her pregnant girlfriend Dina and are only spared because Abby is stopped by another character called Leg and when the final showdown happens at the end of the game the Abby is uncharacteristically spared By Ellie making the whole game up until that point all for naught. As Abby & Lev row off into the mist in a boat Ellie breaks down in the water and goes back home only to find Dina & the baby no longer there because Ellie chose to go get revenge instead of staying with them despite never actually getting it. The game ends with Ellie trying to play Joel's song as the the only reminder of him she has left but cannot hit the chords because Abby bit two of her fingers off in the last battle. In the end Abby who you will justifiably hate with a passion lives happily ever after and Ellie who you understandably love is left with nothing and no-one by their side.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is graphically stunning. However, the story is lackluster and frustrating. The actual game play without the story or the graphics is good, but nothing incredibly memorable.

    Story 2/10
    Game play 5/10
    Graphics 9.5/10

That being said the lighting, environmental details like snow falling off trees or keeping snow prints, the facial expressions during stealth take-downs, and the overall graphics were some of the best I've ever seen. Credit must be given when due.

Unfortunately for me, the level of importance is weighted in order from story, to game play, to graphics. Beautiful games are nice, but the story is what captivates me and keeps me invested. The game play makes living the story or fun. And this one just fell short of my mark I was hoping for story wise, a lot.

Specifically my irk with the story was the Chaotic and unorganized nature of feeling. Getting rid of a beloved character in Joel without a real sense of ability to bask in my efforts left me feeling as annoyed as Mass effect 3's original ending. Not to mention the fact that we don't even get revenge on Abby! I'm forced to play the a character that kills one of my favorite characters and then I hate her and get no satisfaction option? What is this Game of Thrones Season 8? The only silver lining was bringing in Dina for a love interest as well comedic relief between her and Ellie but she couldn't fill the hole from an entire prior game by herself or make up for this hogwash of a story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel this game was for shock value but overall leave you feeling empty. Last of us Part 2 throws always character logic and experiences out the window with unnatural choices for plot convenience. Try hard feel bad for abby but poorly done. All to setup for Part3. This is story driven game and will always be. Character throwed to side and go no where. It's truly disservice to first game and how rare it was. Lighting in bottle can only last so long if you force it. This game didn't need a sequel and I feel still doesnt. Part 2 felt like every damn story takes place in the last of us and violence for violence. Revenge for revenge. First game was different because only Joel and ellie can have this journey. Okay some postives- Best part of Last of Us Part 2 is when Manny gets popped by Tommy in abby campaign. I laughed so hard because felt good because after hours playing as abby didn't enjoy. Plus Manny looked like neil drukmann. Also the visuals look beautiful, music, voice acting, and similar gameplay from last of us with more improvements. Overall this game is story focused game not because graphics look good or anything. If story isnt well put together then it fails to hit its mark. Its has alot plotholes in the story, feels choppy and characters introduced just one and done. Then overall the story fails in me caring about the next hour of game or where it goes. Truly felt like Game of thrones season 8. It was confusing how characters acted and played out. Overall its 1 time play game for me. Also it ain't about Joel death.Jessie /dinah and even ellie characters were hurt by poor writing. So in end-Good bye to last of us 1 making rich world/characters that made moments so beloved and unique. Sadly your successor is hollow inside and out. Expand

Graphics arent everything, a good story needs to compliment them, if Jak 4 is ever made i hope that other studio handle it, because i think that naughty dog has lost its touch.

Buy ps4 when I know the last of us will have part 2. Now I regret it. I try to like this game. But I can't. The story is the hightlight of part 1. But in part 2 it's not that great. I hope it will have interesting story like part 1 but no. Gameplay is average. By the way everyone that wait to play this game expect a good story not gameplay. Great graphics, outdated gameplay, and the most important element of an ND game: The story, which is a hamfisted, politically motivated confluence of car crashes. Pity.

Gunplay is fun as usual especially when wiping out the super whiny enemies.the addition of fending off dogs and new infected types is a welcome addition to the gameplay.Unfortunately the story in this game is absolutely awful.Do not trust the critics on this one, more than half of them were paid off by Naughty Dog. Aside from the performances by the main cast it does not save this wretched unwanted tale of unrelenting agenda pushing.Neil Druckman has created a compromised mess of a game.By choosing to go the Rian Johnson route by subverting expectations, ignoring playtesters and fans, taking advice from questionable sources, and forcing employees to go through rigorous crunch periods to push out this unrealistic and laughable phantasmagoria he conjured in his head. For a story driven game the writing is stunningly poor to the point where you wonder why noone questioned the choices Druckman has fatefully made.I will refrain from spoilers but everybody knows at this point the dreadful scene that appears very early on in the game. Why naughty dog? Why this way? Why do it so poorly? It was a heartrending scene in not the way they intended. To me it felt like Druckman was personally spitting on whoever enjoyed the first game because he felt like they enjoyed it for reasons he didnt agree with.As i trudged through this bitter clunky story i noticed the Ellie we love didnt even develop as a character, instead becoming static midway through. Why you ask? Because in order to fully insult fans of this game the plot needs to be sacrificed. The controversy surrounding the LGBTQ aspects in this game is of no consequence, its great to see inclusion and perspectives from people on all sides of the spectrum but poor poor misguided Druckman used this as a tool and a crutch.Hammering these character traits down so hard the game seems to be more concerned with the way the characters are perceived and persecuted rather than focusing on an actual story. Making such a spectacle out of Ellie and Abby's sexual preferences takes the opposite effect.Rather than presenting these traits of the characters as something positive and organic,it is used in a very ugly way by punishing the characters for being gay. You can look at it as being realistic but the fact is it is not done in a well executed way.Supporting characters have bad goofy dialogue, poor decisions are made to fit the plot, and a very unfitting and pitiful end for a certain character leaves a bad taste in your mouth. The first game was brutal of course but it had a big big loving heart and by the end you understood whyJoel loves Ellie so much and why he had to do what he had to do to save her. In this game there is no heart, just ugly depressing situations that leave you with no hope and no sense of catharsis by the time the credits roll by.I finished this game feeling burnt out. With whats been going on in the world in 2020 we needed a win whether it be big or small, but this game is one big giant loss.Shame on Mr.Druckman for foisting his vile view of the world onto us. We dont need this game. Personally the story ended for me once Joel made his promise to Ellie after saving her. This sequel is just a representation of a delusional fantasy from a very sad man.Go back and play the first one and dont buy into this. Excellent graphic with a trash story... What they built with first chapter has been ruined completely with the second.
Action game means I expect to play it not to see every minute a cut scene. ..otherwise I played a movie not a videogame.
Completely displeased and at the same time angry of what ND done this time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is of two parts for me.
The first is the graphics and overall gameplay which are amazing, the scenery adds to the overall bleakness of the settings perfectly, the character models are done with an attention to detail missing in most games, the overall gameplay loop gets slightly repetitive nearer the end but generally is enjoyable.
Unfortunately what lets this game down, and is seriously disappointing to say having waited years for a follow up, is the story (the main reason I play games), ignoring the controversy before launch, the story is dull, its all about how killing is bad and violence begets violence. I understand this is an important lesson but should have been a backing note behind an immersive story following characters I genuinely care about. Instead new bland unlikable (probably because the story is so terribly written) characters are introduced and favourites are killed off early (badly done, purely for shock value) removing one of the most enjoyable aspects of the first game. The characters have barely developed and in some cases have regressed. To sum up the story is badly written, badly paced, with very little care or attention given to the aspects of the first game which made it so popular.
I've rated this game so harshly because for me the story makes the game, and the disregard given to this games story is painful. The game is a shadow of the first, all of the darkness but with none of the light to balance it out.
p.s. the Game Directors multiple different cameos just stink of a massive ego and its distracting from the game. Neil Druckmann is no Stan Lee, Quentin Tarantino or Hideo Kojima so stay out of the game.
p.s.s the trailers for the game have scenes created for the specific purpose to lie to the gamer, showing the gamer what they wanted and then changing them in the actual game.

Negatives: Main pull from the last game - the dynamic between Joel and Ellie is gone. Ellie's positive and likable character is completely changed into a far more bland and generic character. Combat doesn't have any noticable improvement and quickly feels boring and repetitive.

Story is very generic and lacks any meaning behind the creative decisions pulled.

In general I believe one of the worst things about this game - Is the feeling of having nothing to look forward to. There is simply nothing positive in this game, and everything is presented through the cold, frustrating and terrible feelings that this world hold. The magic of The Last of Us part 1, was that despite this exterior world being like this, Joel and Ellie was not once they grew to like each other. Comparatively, Ellie and Dina's dynamic is nowhere near as positive, uplifting or for that matter, interesting.

I think the worst part about this whole experience, is that during the various flashback sequences, the game shows us these more likable characters/version of characters, that we grew to love in the first game, before pulling us back into this sad, cold and generic new story.

This might be the game with the most wasted potential, I have ever witnessed.

Unfortunately, when you have a character bludgeon another character's father figure with a golf club alongside a group of men, you do not expect that character to then take that mob leader off of a cross, to then offer them an honorable duel. What you would expect to happen is that mob leader getting a front row seat to the most important person in their life being shanked by a vengeful girl who lost a father figure.

The graphics are great and the voice acting is too, and that's why this game gets a 3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The overall quality of the graphics, animations and etc is very well done, unfortunately the game suffers because of the terrible writing. Making Ellie kill hundreds of soldiers just to find and kill Abby but in the end she doesn't even kill her because revenge is bad? After killing hundreds of soldiers she suddenly has a change of heart in the midst of drowning Abby. Another thing that I hate is the fact that Joel's death is disrespectful to his character, in part 1 he was careful and typically doesn't trust strangers. The reason the first game was REALLY good story wise is because of the Joel-Ellie dynamic, this game just throws away the relationship that they have built up, it is most prominent on that scene where Ellie gets mad at Joel for defending her. The writer tried his best to force Abby down our throats, but fails to do so. One more thing I find annoying is Lev, he/she just feels forgettable and annoying. Expand

First of all we all know that Previous last of us is actually loved because of the storytelling which is perfectly fine because nowadays every single studio can generate great graphics for a average game the only reason i rate this game three instead of zero is just because of the gameplay but in the end the storytelling is ****

The second half has tou play as a character you hate is unlikable and most importantly dont care about. The game even as neil himself has always said is about joel and ellie and the sections of the game that showcase that relationship front and center are the best of gaming its what we expect and wanted. Killing joel in the prologue is t what i expected but that choice needed to be respected by the developers. Abby should have died and ellie would have got the revenger WE deserved whether that makes us feel better or worse anout our choices Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
