The only thing that I really care about in a game is the story, The Last of Us Part II failed miserably in that front.
The only reason this game gets even a 4 is for the graphics, level design, sound design, and score. If you care about the plot, relatable characters, and a good ending, this game is not for you.

In a game where 90% of your experience comes from the plot, it is really not advised to have a bad story. Especially not wise to make the characters do unreasonable things when you had epic arcs and deep chemistry between them in the first part. This game is not fun. This feels like taking the trash out. Chore not game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So first off I have played through the whole game since I have a New Zealand account and there the game releases earlier. And the graphics are stunning. But I play the last of us for the story and this is where my problem with this game is. I could have given it a 0 and say everything about this game is trash but it clearly doesnt deserve a 0 because it does have some good moments like the flashbacks with Joel and Ellie. But the entire second half and the (in my opinion) **** revenge plot make this game really hard to recommend for me. If you play games for the graphics go ahead but if you want a good story this game is not what you are looking for. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've rated this 3/10 mainly for the story. The graphics are honestly absolutely amazing and one of the best I've seen from any video game. Damn. Really good. The gameplay is an improvement on the first one, but in my eyes it's mostly filler in-between the story telling. It plays very well though and does its job. But, this game is mainly about its story and why I so dearly loved the amazing first game. And the story of Part 2 is absolutely terrible, even nonsensical.

I'll start at the beginning and work my way through the story. Obviously major spoilers here. So as we know from the first game, Joel is in deep water with the Fireflies. And as we've seen from the first game, Joel is a very cautious un-trusting man. For an example, a survivor is hurt on the road in the first game but its actually an ambush, Joel knows this and just speeds his car up to run them over and get away. So we know what kind of person Joel is.

So at the beginning of the game, Abby is looking for and ends up finding Joel and his brother Tommy. Joel even SAVES Abby's life here. Does this change Abby wanting to kill Joel at all? Even second guess? No. Joel literally saves her life, and instead of something interesting going on and Abby being juggling this guilt around and thinking about still killing Joel- nope. She doesn't care that that happened at all.. okay. Sure. Boring, but sure. So Abby ends up taking Joel to her friends, and Abby ends up torturing and killing him for thanks for saving her life. Cool. The problem with this is, the scene leading up to this doesn't make any sense.

So we know Joel is a cautious man who knows that he is in a lot of trouble with other people. Right? Yet.. he's shown to be so ridiculously trusting here that these people may as well be his childhood friends or even family. It's so unbelievable for him that you can only think this even happened BECAUSE the story needed it to, not what the characters would do. Joel follows Abby and her friends inside the house, who proceed to lock the door behind him and start to crowd around him. Joel tells them his name and him and Tommy told Abby his name earlier. So Joel is just following this girl he's never met before into a house of all of her friends, who proceed to lock the door behind him and crowd around him. And he's just.. doesn't react at all, like its normal. What?

Then, another nonsensical thing is Ellie comes to his rescue. Opens the door in the house to see Abby beating Joel to death. Ellie has a gun in her hand. She's standing outside the door and watching this happen. Does she shoot right then and there? No. She rushes inside to get tackled to the ground and that scene plays out. Really? Have these characters all lost their brains?? What is going on here? It doesn't make sense and it's not what these characters would do.

I don't have enough words so I'll have to come to my next biggest gripe. This story just plays out and does things that make no sense at all, and characters do things they wouldn't do just so Ellie can feel sad. One big example I have here is Mel.

Ellie kills people left and right, literally kills a dog ten seconds earlier and calls it stupid, but once someone has a baby OH NO! She gets absolutely heart broken over killing, well, not really the person but just the baby. And they don't mention the baby at all previously? Not once? Like 'please don't kill me I have a baby'. No, the pregnant woman just tries to straight up fight Ellie and dies and THEN they reveal it of course. Cool. And in a later cutscene you can easily see how pregnant she is, she's literally looking 8 months pregnant and just about to give birth, seriously. Her belly is HUGE, but she 'hides' it when Ellie's killing her with a jacket like that somehow magically conceals it. Right. That, and their group actually wanted her to go out and do grunt work, patrol around and basically go to the 'front line' while being that pregnant. Abby even says she can get off the assignment if she asks but 'no, I don't want to sit around'. But.. you want to be around dangerous situations that could hurt your baby? Shooters, clickers? What if she takes a fall? What is this reasoning? And this pregnant woman (Mel) is mad about the way Abby killed Joel with the golf club, but during a flashback cutscene, Mel also wanted to kill Tommy and Ellie too to leave no witnesses.. what? Are you serious? What are these characters? And Dina before this is talking about being a burden while being pregnant, Ellie even saying she is, but Mel is just.. good? She's not a burden at all and no one cares?

Final point, Abby finds Ellie after she had killed Abby's friends, including pregnant girl. Abby is in a position to kill them, has killed for less, and killed Joel who killed her dad. So.. why.. doesn't she? She doesn't kill Ellie, let's her go free. Why?

They did not do these characters justice. They ruined them. Only play the first game, skip this one.

Gameplay is alright, though it does get tedious as the game progresses. Of course, the thing everyone cares about in a Last of Us sequel is the story. It's the only reason everyone fondly remembers the original.
Where to start? Perhaps the crux of the problem is the character development, or lack thereof. Joel in particular is embarrassingly bad. Gone is the rugged and experienced survivor of Part 1, replaced by a trusting idiot. A man who survived in the apocalypse for decades decides to tell an entire group of armed strangers his name right after he learns he is being hunted. I would say more, but there isn't much else, as Joel dies a mere two hours into the game.
His death is meaningless, rushed, and disrespectful to the character and the fans. To make such a beloved character die like a dog by a character introduced just moments ago is absurd. To make his death have no impact other than a lazy writing plot device to make Ellie hunt down Abby is insulting. To make him die this way so early in the game doesn't even give the player time to grieve for this icon of gaming.
What makes the whole thing worse are the flashbacks with Joel sprinkled throughout the game, some of the only well-written segments of the whole thing. However, a dampener on the experience is the slight inconvenience that Joel is dead, and none of these things matter.
Why couldn't these experiences have been the main game? Why did they go for such an overused revenge story?
And at the end, to cap off the horrible writing, Ellie decides to basically abandon her loved ones to pursue Abby. After fighting and slaughtering hundreds, after everything Ellie has done, and as Ellie has the opportunity to kill Abby at last...she has a flashback of Joel playing the guitar, which prompts Ellie to let Abby go.
This makes no sense. Joel was not a pacifistic person, far from it. Were the writers going for the "He wouldn't be happy with this" approach? What Joel wouldn't be happy with already happened. He wouldn't have wanted Ellie to abandon Dina, which she did, and he probably wouldn't have wanted Ellie to kill hundreds in the pursuit of revenge, which she also already did, but he would have no such qualms about killing Abby herself. Why would you abandon your goal after going so far?
Wouldn't a flashback of Joel make Ellie more angry and make her want to kill Joel's murderer more? In what world does it sedate her anger?
As Abby rides away, Ellie makes it back to the hideout that she and her loved ones had made their base to find it abandoned with no indication of where they went. Ellie tries to play the guitar left behind but finds herself unable to do so due to two of her fingers bitten off by Abby. The game ends, with Ellie left without her lover, without her friends, without her father figure, Joel, unable to even play the guitar, which Joel taught her to play, without anywhere to go, and without her revenge that the whole game was leading up too, meaning a large portion of the game was simply a waste of time.
You could say it was all for nothing.

First off, I don't necessarily believe this game belongs in the 0/10 - 1/10 range because in my opinion, both the graphics and music are so good that they single-handedly lift the rest of this game to a below average experience. The graphics are beautiful, we all know that, but the music is hauntingly introspective and really follows the policy "less is more." I really believe Gustavo Santaolalla deserves more credit, as this is some of his best work. period. That being said, THE STORY IN THIS GAME IS ONE OF THE WORST I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. Allow me to take you back to 2017, where I finally got my hands on the Last of Us Part 1. I had already seen the game on youtube, but I didn't care, because I didn't see all of it, and I had heard how good this game was, but I wasn't sure if having the game spoiled for me would lessen the impact of its story on me. Oh, how was I wrong. From the likable yet insane hobbit that was Bill, to the duo of brothers in Henry and Sam that just screamed "double trouble," to the fatherly redemption story arc that was not a new story, but one of the best written stories ever told. The Last of Us was about a broken man, who had his daughter taken from him in one of the most tragic, one fell swoop moments in video games period. This event caused a shift in his life to become the hardened, lonely smuggler we knew him to be, and it was about this same broken man learning to trust, learning to confront his greatest fear that he could have a family again. The hope of the world of the Last of Us has been sucked from it due to the outbreak, yet Ellie embodies what hope there is left, hope for the world, and hope for Joel. From the death of Sarah, to seeing Bill's reaction to Frank, to Henry and Sam's demise, all of these were designed to represent the brutal nature of the world. Yet this violence, these deaths were all used in different ways that made you feel different things, and both after the death of Sarah and of Henry and Sam, I had to set the controller down and sob, because it made me reflect on the personal tragedies of my own life and helped me relate to Joel, my favorite video game character period (well, Tied with Arthur Morgan, they're really similar in some ways lol). The death was used in ways that made you think, in ways that made you look at the Last of Us not as a video game, but as a story I could relate to. In this plot, the characters have all turned emo, the world is so intentionally bleak it is worse than the Metro series of games, and the violence, good Lord the violence is so overwhelming that instead of making me think, it just made me cringe. Yes, we all understand that Joel killed hundreds of Fireflies and Hunters in the original game, but that was due to his remembrance back to Sarah, and we were able to identify with his struggles. Here, Joel is reduced to an idiot who trusts everyone he sees, and the characters you grow to like, such as Tommy and Jesse, are killed off (well, at least Tommy survives) so suddenly and abruptly that I was LAUGHING in what was supposed to be one of the climaxes of the game. What I'm trying to say is that even though the goal of this game was supposed to make me think, it ended up desensitizing me to the violence that was going on because of how it killed characters off in such a comedic way, rather than with the weight that it did so in the first game. Ultimately, I am going to try and blot this game out of my memory and hold out hope that we can get a remaster of the original for PS5 and be done, no sequel, just the masterpiece that was the first game. The Last of Us part 2 is a horrible sequel, without any respect to his successor.
    Sound design and Soundtrack: 8/10
The sound quality is amazing literally every sound was perfectly recorded an designed for this game and is the same with the soundtrack that is beautiful.
    Graphics: 10/10
the graphics are beautifully detailed, you think most of the things are real. their worlds are broad and incredibly detailed, but still good graphics and maps don't always make a good game as I'm going to say below.
    Gameplay: 4/10
By the part of the Gameplay it's incredibly boring and repetitive, like i didn't believe that Neil Druckman found a way to remove the word fun on this entire game, literally it's the same mechanics from the previous game but it didn't add any new mechanics to make this game more interesting and advanced. Also the level design is terrible, naughty dog was knowed because of their multiple and funny game designs, but in this ones it's just the same thing over and over again, like it's just walk a lot of time, a cutscene happens, passes the whole level stealthily and again another cutscene to finish the level and thats it just the same thing over and over again.
    Story: 0/10
Probally this is the most problematic and controversial about all this game, especially after the leaks and Neil Druckman Comments about th people whos are giving their opinion, but i have to say that this is the most horrible story made in the gaming community ever. It was like Minecraft Story Mode and Pokemon Sword and Shield fused and this was the result. The story is basically the tipic revenge story but its horribly executed, like the player is forced to agree that "the revenge is evil for the soul" forcing moments like Ellie kill a pregnant woman and a dog because of revenge and homewer you continue just to reach your objective, almost kill it, but the you stop because Ellie sufered a epiphany and realised that revenge is bad... sorry but what?! Like you literally killed a lot of people that dosent matters just to spare the one who actually matters just when you are killing her? it dosent make any sence. Other problem are the characters, especially the original ones from the previous game, like Joel, a expert survivor with 25 years of experience that knows every kind of trap and killed thousands of man because of a girl, just to be killed by unknow armed people who he saved, bruh and Ellie a sweet girl but rough girl that continues learning from her mistakes, to became just a lunatic that is angry with everyone, seriously. The new characters are hateble, especially Abby, that she is poorly writen, they just made a "tragic" backstory for her just to the player to like her, but you can never to empathize with her even more after she killed a loved character like a rat. And the most problematic part is the forced inclusivity, i mean i have no problem that a character is gay, trans, black, fat or whaterver they want but i dont want that part of that character be important on the story, but homewer they do that here with the Abby story and Abby is not the transgender the actuall transgender is just a random kid thats is literally "Ellie 2.0" of Abby, that he is running of Crazy CHRISTIAN HOMOPHOBIC and TRANSPHOBIC cult, yeah that, forcing yo the player to fight agaist them as Abby.
I will gives this game a 3/10 and that is just because of the graphics, sound quality and the soundtrack.
Homewer this review is just my opinion but i hope it helps you if dont helps in anything i understand.

Some fan favorite characters gets killed, wich is fine, but the way they handled it was extremely poor and in bad taste, because they only did it for shock value. There's also less ''puzzlelike'' ways to travel through the city like in the first game. This time around, there's an industry revolutionary ''jump button'' and a rope that you can use to solve these puzzles, but they are boring and really easy to figure out wich makes these section of the game feel like their whole purpose is to artificially extend the lenght of the game. overall, this feels like a bellow average game with less features and worse story/characters. Ellie is the main character whose perspective you see most of the game through. However,Naughty Dog forces you to play a large majority of the game with a secondary character that you despise from the very onset. This was done to change opinions on said secondary character but their actions always loomed in my mind and the hate built up just awaiting this character's demise. Gameplay is basically the same from the original game with the only major change is the ability to prone and the more brutal kill animations. The jump button while nice to have isn't well implemented. This game feels like an utter disrespect to everything that made the first game great and a disregard for the reasons why fans loved this series.
It just goes to show every company can fail and Naughty Dog has hit the lowest point of failure with this game

Trying to challenge people's morals without giving them a choice I'd say is a pretty bad thing in video games. Maybe this would've worked better as a show or a movie, but a 20+ hour game telling me I should feel wrong for something that they force me to do is just silly.

The issue is the entire game is full of this trite, self-important "show the cost" hypocrisy. "Show the cost," but

Joel in the first game is an experienced, calculative, on the money guy. This time, he's dumb as a rock and falls for the most absurd traps. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world, but most of the plot revolves around Ellie's relationship with her girlfriend. It almost feels like I'm watching cutscenes from a teenage-girl soap opera. It's not really about killing zombies, surviving this uninhabitable world, but more about her bickerings with other girls.
This is not a bad game. When you play a bad game, you feel like your time has been wasted. This is beyond that: it's a horrible game in that after you've played it, you regret ever putting your hands on it and wish you could forget your memories of it, because it also ruined The Last of Us for me.

The gameplay on the other hand feels like it got stuck in the PS3 generation. They had 8 year development time and didn't even bother. Eleveating and changing the gameplay mechanics.

And the probably biggest issue is the Story. I dont care about the SJW stuff. I dont care about black characters, homosexual, bisexual, or whatever sexuality the character has. BUT I care about logical motivation. There is a lot of illogocal actions. the motivation is a little bit understandable, but the forced subverting the expectations, just to shock the player. subverting the expectations DOES NOT mean good storytelling. they also forced another character in the spotlight, which doesnt work just because of the prequel. If you want to tell such a story, start a brand new story with cameos from the the prequel character.

    My Score:
    1 points for the graphics

    1 points for the atmosphere

and still 1 point for the gameplay because i dont dislike it, but its a disapointment. they could made it so much better

unluckily when your game doesnt offer much except mediocre gameplay you must have your strength in storytelling, and in TLOU 2 offers a very weak, disappointing, forced story.

I wished i would like it. Naughty dog was besides CD project red one of the developers i always trusted with a high quality product. but now i am disappointed and sad. I hope i dont get disappointed by CD Project red later this year.

The original story of Joel and Ellie felt so f-ing real to me that I fell in love with this duo at first sight. Don't want to sound like crazy, but Joel really became some sort of a father figure to me. I replayed the original game dozen of times and I was so-so happy when the sequel was announced.

And now I just... I feel like I was betrayed by someone really close and the whole world tries to justify this by saying "You just mad at the writers for killing off your favourite character! You are not smart enough to understand the narrative reasons for all of this!"

People defend this game and say that it is genius writing, but actually it is just a bunch of cheap twists and bad storytelling. Characters are completely butchered and even the main message of the story is not just confusing, but completely meaningless. Neil Druckman hurt himself in confusion while writing this game.

Why treat your beloved characters, faces of PlayStation with such disrespect, okay fine Joel needs to die but why go out like that? Did you seriously have to nerf him that hard? In the first game he was always cautious of others and was a great survivor, you’re telling me that all that experience just went away? Being a hunter, being involved with black market traders,Dealing with the military and the fireflies just went out the window? Joel and Tommy would of never put themselves at a disadvantage, hell Joel would of pulled tommy and talked to him before they gave any information. You’re also telling me that after saving Abbys life she didn’t feel anything? She’s a just a robot with no emotions and isn’t thankful at all for Joel shooting that runner? That just makes people even more disgusted. Towards the middle of the game Abby finds Ellie and her friends and pins down tommy, kills Jesse and then we gotta play as her against Ellie? For **** sake why would anyone want to do that? I’d rather be stuck in a loop where Ellie kills me then continue with the **** story. Now onto the ending, you’re telling me that after witnessing Joel’s brutal murder, the death of Jesse, and losing Dina and tommy that it was all for nothing? She finally got the opportunity to kill this she hulk and she didn’t take it? Joel saved Abbys life and Abby showed no **** given but Ellie has to? Where was that compassion when Joel was getting beat to death? Oh “they’re not the same?” Dam right they are and that’s exactly why no one likes Abby, much less hates her. They try so hard to get you to understand her perspective but the audience doesn’t care when she’s still the emotionless robot that killed Joel, she doesn’t even regret it, after Ellie spares her you’re telling me that she couldn’t say “I’m sorry”? I get what the message is, “revenge is a fools game” revenge only hurts the people around you but **** they executed it so poorly and dissrespected the loved characters of the first game. Gameplay wise I have no complaints, pretty cool, no factions mp but hey your guy’s decision for not giving the full game. The fact that they bastardize and retcon the story from TLOU1 in INEXCUSABLE. Characters completely forget the knowledge they display in the first game, then through plot induced stupidity, act completely out of character. Both Ellie and Joel are victims of this heinous betrayal of common sense.

At no point did i feel sympathy towards Abby and every time I had to play as her I rushed as much as possible to get to Ellie, even though she continues to do more and more out of character actions.

For a game that constantly beats the concept of "REVENGE/MURDER IS BAD" and then FORCES you to murder people without any choice is not excusable.

On top of it, the game trailers and promises from the dev's are NO WHERE to be found. We were told that you would not have to harm an animal yet, you kills dogs like they were fodder. Scenes showing Joel were ripped out of the game and replaced with another disposable male character (Jesse) whom also gets killed off.

While the gameplay is fun, the story makes the game a complete chore. If you skip the cut scenes and any lore, it makes the game even worse and you are constantly reminded of the garbage you are playing.

I am a fan of the original, I loved the father-daughter dynamic between Joel and Ellie, Joel would do anything and I mean anything to protect her as would she to help him....I tried to give this installment a chance but they made it for all the wrong reasons, the established story should be your holy grail, and then introduce other elements that complement and enhance it ; news flash: having LGBT+ characters is normal (have friends in the community and love them dearly), having minorities (I’m a minority) is normal and not unique, but having a clear message of disdain against one of your major or even your major customer base and even trying to manipulate media to your advantage is not cool, the virtue signaling is more than evident, does Naughty Dog actually even care about these communities or they jumped on the band wagon for selfish reasons? Do your research, then decide for yourself.

Speaking of which shame on Naughty Dog on how they treat their employees, not only taking advantage of them financially but creating an atmosphere of fear if they don’t align to their belief system. The actual developers is why I give it a 3 and not a 0, a lot of work went into the game and it looks beautiful.

Back to the game, if Joel should die, it should have been at the end and by saving Ellie, also setting up the 3rd installment, but you know they need to make a point based on agenda right at the beginning; In addition to this, there’s a lot of hypocrisy with Sony in America, censoring many games and content yet in this case having basically a full on s3x scene?

I’m pro diversity yet I should mention there’s a lot of symbolism in the game...I’m all for Ellie being LGBT+ and the protagonist, I’m not for the symbolism of Joel being killed like a dog because of agenda. All of the shenanigans of Sony/Naughty Dog silencing people who just spoke their opinions by bullying them via copyright claims looks really bad; suspicious 10/10s from critics yet the user score up to now (6/19/20) is 3.4 with 8.5 thousand reviews? That’s a bit strange, wouldn’t be surprised some websites “reset” user scores at some point due to pressure from Sony, Naughty Dog or the media, hopefully they can stay strong and objective.

This is not for children or teens, parents please don’t buy this game for your children unless you perfectly know the content and are ready to discuss it. It is not intended for them, it’s for mature adults.take note.

Also, the media tries to call us homophobic and almost fascists. Well, I don't like to be that kind of person, but I'm gay, so, check mate!
The game feels pointless when you reach the ending, something that didn't happen with the first game. Also, there are a lot LGBT characters. There's nothing wrong with that, but why did they give so much attention to that aspect? I mean, it's the apocalypse, I wouldn't mind my sexual life or my identity when my life is constantly in danger. Spoilers! Joel is way dumber in this game, an awful lot. He gaves his name to a bunch of strangers, and one of them, Abby, kills him with a golf club. He had the most ridiculous death ever, he fought against zombies, goons, he survived many life threatening situations in the first game to save the girl on whom he sees his daughter, Ellie, and he dies like that in the beginning of the game. Also, there is a sex scene, of Abby and Owen, and oh my God, what was that? It feels like a weird fan fiction. Also, an awful lot of straight characters die in the game but the LGBT ones, are literally ok, nothing happens to them. The zombies merely appear during the game, and they were one of the most important enemies in the first game. At the end of the game, Ellie reaches Abby, and the player can feel how its own blood boils. You want to kill her so bad. But then, Ellie has a vision of Joel and just let's her go free. And the game ends with Ellie completely alone. What was point of the whole adventure if you are not going to kill the main antagonist on the first place? That was her motivation! She sacrifices her relationships and the people she loves, like her girlfriend, because Ellie chose revenge over her. It makes no sense. Ellie kills dozens if not hundreds of humans across the game, but when she reaches the one who ruined her life, she just leaves her. On a good note though, the graphics are stunning, the best ones. It all looks so real and pretty. The details are almost orgasmic. But, the story, ugh, I rather play Uncharted 4.

One of the worst sequel from a one of the best original story driving game, only driven by one way nonsense violence, with no choices or either reflection on its meaning; only to promote an agenda of a twisted naughty dev. In a story driving game, story matters and must stand on its own prequel and not spitting on it. Thanks to N.Druckman.

Like Liana K said, Last of Us 2 feels like mud wrestling - vapid entertainment involving two angry women in the midst of all the mess and violence (I'm paraphrasing here).

Stuff involving Joel and Ellie were good though, and Lev is an interesting character whose back story is woefully neglected... It shows how Naughty Dog missed, or rather messed their chance.

The majestic work in the graphics and the cinematographic is stunning don't get me wrong. The story is awfull, they don't respect our hours & hours playing TLU1 and the connection we have within and the feeling when you heard the sound of the platinum trophy after you went through the game all over and over. Is simply heartbreaking.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics were incredible, beautiful scenery, animations, etc and really good gameplay. But, those aspects alone can't make a good game. The story was lacking, a big hit to a story-based game. The character development was somewhere on a scale of bland to nonexistent. The only new character I somewhat enjoyed was Dina although even she didn't have much of a personality aside from existing to be Ellie's relief. I wish they had given the side characters as much thought and development as Tess or Bill. Abby's motives were understandable but her story seemed forced and left no real room for empathy. (Her story would have been better executed if we played as her for the entire game and actually built a relationship with her and her father, even if it led up to Joel's death, or a choice to kill him at the end - anything would have been better than the story they gave us.) After the entire story played out, we were met with an unfulfilling ending. If Joel's death and him being spit on wasn't enough, Ellie lost her fingers and overall ability to carry on his legacy. I can only assume this was Naughty Dog's way of saying "That's it. The game you loved is now dead. Hope you enjoyed. Thanks for the 60 bucks." It just felt like the story was written by a person who hated the first game, I'm not even sure if it was written by the same people because it's so one-dimensional. Overall, 3 out of 10 because again, the graphics and gameplay are nothing compared to the story. If a game was made with stick figures but had an amazing story, it would get a 10/10 from me, this game has no excuse. Expand

I really didn't enjoy this game. Sure, it has amazing graphics, improved mechanics compared to the previous one and better AI. But after loving the first game and have waited so long for a story of Ellie and Joel, or a story that is consistent with their personalities, we find out that ND choose to change most of it.
First, changing the CGI of their facial expressions and body (in scenes from the previous game) to make Joel look more weak and naive, and Ellie who always was a smart kid, turned to be a girl with numb expressions, instead of a strong girl. Therefore, changing the way they look and act was a way to broke their personalities (see Ellie in the final scene of tlou 1).
Secondly, the narrative was really bad, playing with the "villain" is not something new in games, but to play with such an uninterested person and encountering a lot of shallow others characters with side stories just to make us feel something or acknowledge their beliefs (rather than telling a good overall story) destroyed the narrative or whatever storyline that ND wants to tell.
About the SJW stuff, we all know that people that don't like certain types of characters will be upset, but that is not in anyway the majority of people who is criticizing this game. We know based on the presentations and panels of NaughtyDog, that Neil Druckmann has a strong opinion to not allowed sexy females in their games, and promotes feminism and sexual diversity. The players understand that, we love Bill in the first game, we love left behind (DLC) and much more Ellie, because their sexuality was not the story, but was who they were in the story.
Now, ND shifts the narrative on purpose to make us play a game that is not about Joel, Ellie or even revenge, but to be shocked about ideas: "acts have consequences", "revenge is bad", "females are strong", "diversity is good", etc..and the story of Joel and Ellie was just pushed aside and presented as an attractive way to make us buy the game.
I understand that Neil Druckmann and ND are in the path to put ideas in games, and that is ok for players who wanna buy it. But to sell a story in one way (see trailers) and deliver in another way totally different that what was promised (too much scenes were altered just to sell it) is a really, really wrong way to promote your ideas; and spitting on characters and stories that we love, that is just a horrible move.

Neil Druckmann has single-handedly destroyed this series, this studio, and has polarized the video game community the likes the industry has never seen. The result is a game created by a man with a narcissistic personality disorder, coupled with authoritarian tendencies with an insular world view who disregards any constructive criticism that is aimed to improve and give feedback to what is "just another video game".

Any normal and avid movie fan can analyse this story and see the gaping plot holes that exist within the character arcs, the stories narrative, it offers ZERO cohesion from the last game, the narrative ideas and tropes are taken straight from Quentin Tarrantino's works (speaks for the originality of the lead writer). There is no levity or nothing really that the fans have been dying to find out, nothing original from the first game, just a tone deaf piece of work from Neil Druckman who said, and I quote "We don't use the word Fun": a walking simulator with sleepy cutscenes in between tackily placed, repetitive gameplay and artificial game lengtheners resounds with his philosophy.

This game is not in any way a masterpiece, to characterize it that way would do a disservice to the meaning of the word itself. It is an "Okay" story, with overused ideas, executed in a disappointingly disorganized way.

Playing as Ellie was boring with no character ark or building with Dina, they are the same from beginning to end with no adversity or change. Playing as Abby was even more boring with 0 motivation from her actions and 0 character or world building.

Tried to avoid spoilers as much as could, did hear that Joel died, which didn't bother me to hear, but to see him get murdered in such an undignified way and how Ellie basically let this butch androgynous unlikable creature walk free, I just cannot express the injustice that was done to these characters. The weird sex scene was unnecessary and saw no point in it besides Neil Dickman or whatever the hell his name is, get off on his bizarre fetish and get "woke" points for being "progressive". At a certain point the graphics and scenery stopped being impressive and there were certain moments where I was bored and had no motivation to play especially as a character which I strongly disliked. Steroid Mary Sue was just not a good character. I felt forced to play as her but I couldn't give less of a crap about her or her story. Did not enjoy this game, it was a mess and cursed to begin with once the leaks and employee drama started to come out. Does not live up the beauty of the first game at all and it seems no beautiful story and characters are saved from the destructive clutches of progressivism. Expand
