This game mainly relies on its story. And its story is pretty awful. It will leave you unsatisfied.

This game is visually appealing and the gameplay is very similar to The Last of Us 1, one of the best video games of the past 10 years. So this should be good, right? Unfortunately, it's not due to the horrible story of this game, throwing away the magic of the first game in favor of some shock and awe approach that never ends up paying off. Save yourself $60 and don't buy this game.

The Last Of Us Part II is undeniably one of the most ambitious games ever made. Graphics and gameplay are impeccable. But what is the price of de-characterizing an important character? The Last Of Us 2 fails exactly where it could never fail: in his story.

Visuals- better than the first game.
Gameplay- About the same. Moving things around to get from place to place replaced with jump. Story- Pretty much uprooted the first game, put into a fire pit, and burned. The characters are turned 180 degrees and pretty much unnoticeable. Post apocalyptic

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics are pretty good

    The music is great

The first few hours of gameplay are fun, but the other 3/4 of the game gets repetitive and boring (also the ia of the enemies is not so good)

Characters (almost all of them) are plain, with stupid motivations ,have no development and you do not get to empathize with them (spoiler: the second half of the game you play as abby, a character taken out of the ass with a **** backstory that almost at the beginning of the game kills one of the most beloved characters in the franchise, Joel. I don't understand how the hell the creators of this game expect us to empathize with this character)

And the most important thing in the game, the Plot ... is pure bull****, that plot that made the first game so good is totally screwed up with a cliche story of revenge, it has lazy writing, it's full of plotholes , the events happen for no apparent reason (spoiler, at the end of the game ellie is about to kill abby but out of nowhere she has a change of heart and decides not to kill her, despite the fact that throughout the game she has killed hundreds of people she decides not to kill the murderer of her father figure) and the outcome is ****

Don't spend 60 bucks on this game.

Everything else is good which is unfortunate because the story is what made TLOU great in the first place. Out of all the things they could have screwed up it had to be the one most important aspect of the game. A total disaster and a total disappointment for the more hardcore fans of the franchise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So disappointed to see how all the leaks are true. It really shows how much of a biased circle-jerk that gaming publications are that the reviews for this game are so high. I don't understand how any fans of the original game, or a casual player who owns a PS4, would at all agree with the scores that "professional" critics are publishing.

Yes, the graphic and animations are great. A lot of work went into the graphics and are design, and you can really tell. However, this seems like the only part of the game that any thoughtful development went into.

The mechanics and moment-to-moment gameplay haven't changed whatsoever since the original game was released 7 years ago. And back then, the original game played like an out-of-date action adventure. The Las of Us 2 has the same weak crafting system, same generic and uninspired stealth system that's been in games since the PS4 first came out.

AI is absolutely terrible. Here's an example that happened to me: throw a molotov at a group of infected, other infected (not clickers) run over to stand in the fire to investigate. Human AI are equally bad, at the AI you would expect in something like Fallout 76 or something. They will just run into kill zones where their buddies just died, they will be completely oblivious to bodies or stealth kills right next to them. Like, you'll grab one enemy as a human shield in broad daylight directly in front of 2 other enemies, and they'll be doing the "Oh, what's that sound? I better investigate." animation for 3-4 seconds until you shoot them in the face. This is especially bad as you'll be fighting the exact same 3-4 enemy types throughout the whole game, so the terrible gameplay stays the same through the whole game, which gets boring and fatiguing fast.

So you probably didn't play the first game for it's gameplay, you loved it for the world and plot, which is why you're thinking about the Last of Us 2. Everything you like about the first game is gone. None of the characters have good chemistry or banter with each other, and the characters you like from the first game have had the parts that you loved about them conspicuously removed. New characters in Ellie's side of the story are mediocre at best. If you're that interested in the story, go watch the first couple of hours of the game / cut-scenes on YouTube before you decide to buy.

    *SPOILERS*

Joel dies in the first hour. The Abby character is just as laughable and unrealistic as all the memes say she is. Ellie's character has been turned completely one-dimensional by the start of the game, which is part of the game's weak thesis on cycles of violence and revenge. All the characters put on a forced gruff tone for their voice acting, and have flat and uninteresting dialogue to read off.

At the end of the game, after killing your way through hundreds of people, and other characters who were involved in Joel's death get the bullet, you don't even get the choice of what to do with Abby. Ellie lets Abby live because....cycles of revenge? This lack of choice, and forced direction by the game describes the entirety of the plot and game design.

The good: the game visually is stuning, great, you can feel hard work from all people that designed and created the enviroments models for the game, the soundtrack is good, pretty similar from the first game but is really good.

the bad: THE WRITTING, as a narrative based game like the first one was, and how this second part was advertised, the writting is really bad, not thaking advantage of anything of what could be and judt relaying all in "shock moments", characters from the first game feel more like devolutions of what they were, mechanics are ok, no really a significant change at all, and the interaction with the enviroment like puzzles and those are really most gone, and zombies what should have been one of the most interesting things to interact/fight are left really behind and barely given a chance to bewhat they were in the first game.

the WORST: this game suffered a lot from what tried to achieve, poorly lgbt+ potrayal of characters, feeling more annoying that they could be, beside the ,ajor plat an ellie story, all of them have stories that have been better represented in other media, leaving them just as poorly writen characters, the "adult scene" was meaningless and really just worked as a "shock moment" that left me disgusted, and what is worst about is that it shows a double moral for what sony allow or no to show in games, basically censorship, censorship that other franchises have suffer for less graphic content. and finally the interaction between Joel and ellie is completely gone, it left really sour and bitter taste from all the flashbacks, and the treath that they gave to joel as character is one of the worst things ND have ever made poorly and wrongly handle.

im really disapointed for all the hype that i had to bare to play this game. its Just sad

The gameplay much like the first game was really fun and very satisfying. I LOVE a good stealth game, and even though I found the game to be on the easy side and seemingly much too forgiving and gracious in terms of items distribution, I had fun playing the gameplay parts for sure.
Sadly though, all of this though was completely and absolutely ruined by the atrocious, and predictable writing that seemed to go out of its way to undo everything the first game did in terms of a coherent and believable story and character development. I’ve honestly never been this disappointed in a story being continued to the point I wish this game never was ultimately made. The writers ruined what could have been a gem of a franchise. What an absolute waste. I’ll forever love TLOU, but I’ll try my best to forget this sequel ever came to be. Disappointed doesn’t begin to explain how I feel after playing this game. FML.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I made an account JUST to review this game. Please do not trust big reviewers. TLOU2 is being criticised for being a "SJW game" and despite this, the 2 notoriously "SJW" websites, Kotaku and Polygon, dislike the game. Please trust players. Obviously many will give it a 0 and 1 because they are just angry and want to review bomb, but what they say is still true. I will do my best to be fair.

I will try my best to be short and concise (difficult for me, I try to be fair)

    1. All the leaks are true.

    2. There is outright false advertisement. The trailer where you see Joel hold Ellies mouth and surprise her? Yeah that's a lie. It's the Asian guy, Jesse who in fact does this in the game. They were obviously going on the "JOEL AND ELLIE **** YEAH" hype that it would build and the tore it to pieces. It is literal false advertisement.

    3. Everything that TLOU1 was, was "Hope" - that's shat on in TLOU2.

    4. In TLOU1 they literally explain how the chance of finding a cure is virtually non-existent yet somehow we are in TLOU2, supposed to feel like Joel was a villain for making the choice he did in TLOU1. The choice that we all knew was morally ambiguous but we understood him.

    5. I suppose i should speak about the "SJW" criticism. I think it has merit. There's so many characters of different colours and orientations and no "bigot sandwiches" in sight and this is what we get instead of Joel and TLOU1 Ellie.

Neil Druckmann is known to be a fan of Anita Sarkeesian (a person who outright lies about video games. For example using Hitman as an example of misogyny because you can kill women in it when you can kill everyone in that game indiscriminately and you always have been able to) - he has made his own speech about the misuse of women in games and the agenda shows.

    6. A quick positive before the last one: As expected the gameplay is great. if you liked TLOU1 gameplay you'll like this. It drags on for too long and gets stale but it works. The acting is great, the music is great, the art direction, the sound design and attention to detail in small things like when you zoom in your characters eyes squint, is great -- But everything and I mean EVERYTHING else is absolutely terrible.

    7. TLOU1 was not an original story but it was so brilliantly told and acted and that's what made it a perfect game for many people. TLOU2 is ONE of these things: It's well-acted, that's it. EVERYTHING else is garbage. The scripts are terrible and remind me of teenage movies or bottom-of-the-barrel Netflix shows. They took 2 of gaming's best and most complex characters and completely destroyed them. They literally kill Joel and Ellie's character they kill.

Joel was quiet, deliberate, reserved, violent, angry but he still had love and you could tell.
Ellie was hope. She was happy, she had fun while everyone else was scared. She also got scared, but she would always go back to the **** you" feisty, quick-witted person that she is. She would take initiative when Joel hesitated (the bridge where she jumps for example) -- They were both strong, well-written, complex and empathetic characters.

Joel's the same in TLOU2 but he gets brutally murdered within 2 hours (of a 25 hour game)
Ellie is now a basically an emo. They were clearly going for a heavy change, for her to be adult, **** ****ed her up, she's not her own childish self, but it's just badly written. At one point a man apologises to Ellie for making (what the audience is left to assume is an offensive remark on her lesbian relations with Dina) - he is seemingly very sincere and gives her a gift (in shape of a sandwich for here travels) and tells her to stay safe. She does nothing but scoff and turns to Jesse and tells him they are "bigot sandwiches" - it is pathetically badly written, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

So what is the payoff? Well presumably it is that we get to be Ellie and get revenge on Abby.

We do not. The half of the game we *are* Abby in an attempt to humanise her but it all falls flat because she quite simply is not a likeable character and she just bashed Joels head in, in front of Ellie, we want her gone. They didn't even take the intelligent route here of making us play Abby for 10 hours BEFORE killing Joel. No. They want to "subvert expectations" ah yes, expectations. They dared to kill him. It's like Game of Thrones. It's so impressive!

And in the end, when we play Ellie again, we murder hundreds of people, Abby's accomplices and at the very end, after Abby harms Dina, Tommy and Ellie herself even more.. Ellie decides that revenge is not what Joel would have wanted, which is just so far from Joel's character.

So Abby goes free. It is the oh-so original tale of THE CIRCLE OF REVENGE (remember to gasp at the originality here) the never heard-of-before story of how violence and revenge does not solve anything and does not make you feel better but in fact does the opposite.

Please do not support this game.

I managed perhaps a little over halfway then stopped through the game I am not sure if I should bash on and compleat it but I feel like such a sociopath playing Abbi. The main issue I have is the story, It is just terrible and really detracts from any enjoyment did ND forget that games are for enjoyment and entertainment? Perhaps. I Get they went for the not fun approach and wanted to go down the grim dark route. The way old characters are portrayed or have their story lines end I think was a choice given to cheep shock factor or a copy cat of walking dead but carried out and executed very poorly. The new character Abbi has been made a bit of a Mary Sue the story tries Really hard to encourage you to relate too or like her but this is I fear imposable given her actions and arrogance. Other characters do not so much brake character as completely smash it and give no good reason as too why. The story is also confusing jumping between flashbacks Ellie and Abbi. There is also a horrid sex scene that makes you feel awkward and a little disturbed. Over all I would not recommend this game to anyone. Update: Now I have finished the game. The story just did not improve and the ending was extremely unsatisfying. Don't bother trying to stealth your way through and you are pretty much scripted to get into to much **** Expand

Graphics 9. Sound 7. Story. Nope. Gameplay 3.

    Pros:

Graphics are decent quality despite clearly being downgraded from the trailers.
Sound design is clear. Soundtrack is haunting. Infected noises are genuinely creepy.
Decent area to explore and stealth mechanics, workbench upgrade improvements are good.
There's a jump button. I barely used it. But the rumors are true. You can jump.
If I resell immediately, I should be able to recoup most of my loss while hype is still fresh.

    Cons:

The Story is god awful. Sadly not a joke. 2 hours is all it takes to realize your money was wasted. I've read $1.99 E-Books from Amazon that are less messy, less reliant on 180 degree shock moments with infinitely better structure (Try the Winter Sniper series by David Healey)
Daytime soap opera like acting, reliance on flashbacks and heavy with nonsensical plot twists.
Honestly felt like decisions that you have no control over we're designed to actively troll the player? No seriously. It felt like I was being giving the middle finger for enjoying the original game and it's lead characters relationship.
Voice acting and script show significant drop in quality from the original. Some lines will make you laugh (Not in a good way).
Multiple forgettable characters with little overall impact bog down a pointlessly bloated mid section.
Plot requires the main characters to be significantly dumber than their past selves, possibly to make the many horrendously stupid decisions seem more feasible.
Frame rate dips well below 30 fps occur with moderate levels of action (Launch PS4. Can't speak for PS4 Pro)
    Combat becomes repetitive and boring.
Some animations look unnatural. Swinging on rope for example, looks goofy and awkward
Relentlessly bleak. Never felt any great enjoyment in what I was forced into doing which made it a real slog to play. Murdering at this level probably shouldn't be fun, but that is what i play games for. Fun. This was not fun, Maybe you'll love the constant sensationalized brutality if you're 12. But an experienced gamer will tire of Quicktime event violence for violence sake.
For all of the SJW talk, there appears to be little reason for the LGBTQ community to feel uplifted with their representation here, other than acknowledgement they exist after the Apocalypse.
Genuinely wasted opportunity to talk objectively about issues that face LGBTQ daily.
Some set piece action was cool, but there's no where near enough of it. Puzzle sections from the original are virtually non-existent
Ending is horrendously stupid, unsatisfying and incredibly, manages to render the entire revenge theme pointless.

    Conclusion.

With any other game, the good found in the Last of Us 2 would probably earn it a 6/10 as visually and presentation wise, it really is quite beautiful. However I have chosen to knock points off as this is not a traditional game in the sense that game play mechanics are more about serving the narrative than being actually fun to play. This means the core impact of this game almost solely relies on the story nailing its beats, investing the player and holding the audience captive through it's admittedly lengthy play time.
Here it sadly fails. The Narrative uses a mix of ret-cons, deception, borderline emotional blackmail nonsensical twists to tell a schizophrenic story of "revenge" that is honestly boring, cheap and unsatisfying.

If there is some good to come from this disappointing experience, hopefully it is a deeper focus on the practices of the mainstream gaming media and their ludicrous 10/10 circlejerk concerning this title.

I love the gameplay and the graphic but I just can't enjoy the game because of the story and the character. The good story telling of the first game is the main reason why I love TLOU so much. The bond between Joel and Ellie is what made the first game good, why throw it all away in part 2? I will just pretend part 2 never existed.

2 points out of my 3 point score is for the poor staff that were mistreated and exploited, yet still managed to pull off amazing visuals and level design. The remaining point is for the respect I still have for "old" Naughty Dog. I hope someone can make good titles at the studio again, somewhere down the line. "The New Dogs" and "Dr. Uckmann" print should be discontinued. 100 Brains is a massive exaggeration by the way. It isn't genius or revolutionary to make media that pisses people off, as much as you'd like to tell yourself that. I'm not even mad. Just disappointed and embarrassed I ever thought this would be good.

Unlike a lot of reviews and the game creators view of Joel's final act in the first game, I never thought of it as the unmoral act (saving Ellie).
Since when its okay to kill someone to save others ?? Justifying the killing of Ellie to me is like justifying the killing innocent people to find a cure for Covid_19!! I would've done what Joel did for someone I didnt even care for, let alone a CHILD whose I love like a daughter.

The faulty demonetization of Joel's act, is what justifies the horrible ending his character received in the second game.

To me the first game story was perfect and Joel did the Moral thing. No one can take that away from me.

TLOU Part II story is a huge departure of the interesting story of the outbreak of a mutant Cordyceps fungus and the path of finding its cure to a flat unsatisfying overused cliche revenge story. It even does that in a very harsh way as if it wants to ruin the first game legacy.

I also had an issue with the forced unnatural inserting of strong women in the game as if we are living in an only women leading society. I am all for women rights and strong women representation, but too much of a good thing is actually a bad thing.

I really did not enjoy the Last of us Part II.

Having seen many videos repeatedly of Joel's head being smashed in with the club by Abby and having played through it myself, I now feel completely disconnected from the world that was created in the first part,I don't even feel sad anymore, all that goes through my mind is "this is the stupidest s**t I've seen. I boot up the game and play it for a 20 minutes tops and quickly quit it and find something else to play at this point.
It being a couple of days post launch now, I can comfortably say, f**k this game. F**k it for ruining the world, characters and story for me. I'm done.
Its good if you enjoyed it, its good that you could and I won't fault you for it. But there's too much wrong for me to forgive. Too much.
This world that you'd made naughty dog, is now dead.
And the best part? You killed it as unceremoniously and mindlessly as Abby did Joel. Good job.
This had the potential, the setup and all the key ingredients of something mind shattering. But sadly you decided nope, we're gonna f**k with this up so bad.

Whether it's Ellie's indignant attitude and lanky, 15-year-old-boy body or Abby killing the main character of the first game and her comically large arms. Every design choice here was made seemingly to show complete contempt for the player base. It's hard to imagine what Neil Druckmann's intent here was. Why would you kill such a beloved character in such an unceremonious way without any kind of final catharsis?

And what is up the sex scene? Was Abby born male or not? Why does it look like they are having anal sex? Did Neil make this entire as inside joke and was hoping to ride on controversy? I guess it worked to some extent.

It's a shame that the game is so repugnant because it seems like the game engine and graphics are very solid, albeit made on system that was outdated even at the time of it's release. I think this game would truly shine on PC or PS5 so that the framerate can really bring out the animations in this game (which are admittedly pretty impressive).

But as a game that is sold on its story, it's just too awful and offensive to pay the price of admission and the contempt which it shows for its players is enough to warrant it a 3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Again, spoilers ahead:

I didn't have any expectations going into this game and I avoided spoilers like the plague. The excessively high scores this game was given were kind of alarming, but I didn't let it effect my perception.

    First: the gameplay.

The entire first eight or so hours of this game are a slog. There is no way to sugarcoat it. In the first four hours of the game, there is an extremely minor amount of gameplay that isn't exploring a lifeless town. Each actual gameplay encounter is shortlived -- maybe you'll kill a small handful of infected, but that's it. The areas you "explore" aren't interesting enough to warrant how much time is spent doing nothing. The notes you find aren't piecing together any cool story. It's just roaming around collecting supplies and doing prompts.

After that first eight hours, the pacing does pick up to TLOU 1 levels of gameplay. There is more combat, but it's nothing I haven't already done in the first game. Nothing is improved upon or expanded. If anything, the combat has been made even easier so that it takes a back seat to the story. I wish there was more to talk about in terms of gameplay, but there is such a severe lack of it that I can't scrape up anything more to say. It's on par with the first game, but with much less of it. I can't stress how little time you spend doing anything but walking around in empty areas. It is extremely and relentlessly boring.

Second, and my main gripe: the story.

Ignoring that Joel was swapped out with Jesse in an effort to deceive people, the fact that he has such a small role in the game and is killed off so early is easily one of the game's biggest faults. When Ellie and Dina set out on their journey to avenge him, it's just so incredibly boring. While you slowly jog around collecting supplies and doing prompts for hours on end, the only entertainment you're provided with is conversation. Their interactions are as lifeless as the environments. I was trying to think of why I was falling asleep this time around when the first game had plenty of moments where you're simply navigating an area and moving ladders -- then a flashback happens and it all came together.

The flashback sequence is Joel taking Ellie out on her birthday when she was younger. Their chemistry was an immediate adrenaline shot of joy. I had forgotten what made the first game so endearing and that was the two main characters. This sequence is far and away one of the best parts of the game for me and the contrast between Ellie and Dina compared to Ellie and Joel is stark.

I've got no qualm with characters being killed off. If Joel was going to die, fine. My problem stems from what purpose it served, which was.. well, I'm still not sure. The bulk of the game is spent killing everyone that was in the room when Joel was killed. Ellie tortures a woman for information and kills a pregnant woman. Despite all of this, Abby spares Ellie during their confrontation due to her new friend Lev even though Abby had spent so much time tracking down the man that killed her father. She spared Ellie when she killed Joel and then for some reason spared her again even though Ellie had killed all of her friends. It's just hard to believe.

The larger issue at hand with Abby and Ellie is how after they finally meet and Abby spares Ellie, Ellie can't let it go. Ellie tracks her down and kills her way to a captive Abby, who she frees along with Lev. They make their way to some boats and in a twist, Ellie just can't let Abby leave. She forces Abby into a fight by holding a knife to Lev's throat. Ellie pretty much destroys her and is in the process of drowning her until an image of Joel flickers in her mind. For some reason, she decided, "no, I won't kill this person. I have killed everyone else who did not actually kill Joel, but I will not kill the person who bashed his head in." She doesn't kill Abby in the end, despite her having murdered Jesse, Joel, attempting to kill pregnant Dina, shooting Tommy's eye out, and biting off two of Ellie's fingers in their fight. Sure, Naughty Dog.

I thought they would go against the cliche of revenge not being worth it in the end, and for a moment they almost did. It was exciting that Ellie was going to just end it after so many grueling, unsatisfying hours. But then she just doesn't. What a game.

    tl;dr

    Pros
    -Graphics: sure.
-Gameplay: it's literally the first game again.
-I did enjoy getting to know Abby. It's a shame almost everything surrounding her is terrible.

    Cons
-Playtime is heavily padded. A ton of this game simply doesn't have to be there.
-The story and resolution of this story are so incredibly not interesting that I have no choice but to question Troy Baker's taste since he praised the script.
-The characters are largely one-dimensional and are kind of all over the place. Nobody has clear motivations unless it revolves around revenge.
-The pacing of the game is horrendous.

Joel didn't deserve to die. His character acts out of proportion in Neil's wish to get him killed. Too few Joel scenes and most of them shows his tension with Ellie. Too many plot holes for me to cover them one by one. I did my best toJoel didn't deserve to die. His character acts out of proportion in Neil's wish to get him killed. The rest are out of proportion and twisted to fit Neil's agenda. Too many plot holes for me to cover them one by one. I did my best to review some of the most blatant plot holes in my previous comments and posts.

Gameplay-wise, it's very appealing. World building is top notch and the exploration part is painstakingly fine-tuned. Kudos to the team for creating such a commited landscapes and setting. But the story is crap, with a nihilistic ending leaving a hole in your chest and a bitter aftertaste in your mouth. I had to play the first game and currently am reading meaningful, story-centered fanfics after finishing it all just to cleanse this **** out of my system.

New infected Shambler and Point Zero Crap blows off the realistic overview of the fungal infection. Cordyceps fungi has immunosuppression properties which allows it to bypass lung defenses, passes into the blood stream, into the CSF, and finally to the amygala and limbic system. When the fungi infects human amygdala it stimulates aggression and overrides conscious control the body, reverting the evolution of a sensible human mind back into one akin of a beast.

So far, the four stages of infected are realistic with their behavior displaying apex predator. The Shambler and the new infected shatters the realistic background of infected firmly established by TLOU1. Such a poor decision to weave Resident Evil's monstrosity just for shock value.

The tone of this game is very grim. I'd recommend for players who are currently having a hard time with their mental health to hold off playing this for a while. I was leaked about that early scene when I was studying for a test. I didn't flunk it but I could've achieved more. Anyway, I made peace with it and now am looking forward to new fanfictions that'd surely overcome Neil's horrendous writing.

It's hard to start writing a review for this game because clearly some personal bias is influencing my decision to write this, based on my disappointment in the game's direction with the story.

However, looking at it objectively, TLOU2 does a lot right. The core gameplay from the original is refined and expanded upon. Whilst it won't win any awards for gameplay and a lot of the same noise-related mechanisms remain (throw a bottle or a brick to help you stealth your way through), killing enemies is pretty satisfying, and more real than most games present them.

Expanding on the last point, the audio can be horrifying, people screaming as they die, the terror of the (less prevalent, this time around) clickers, and the general design are at times outstanding. Combined with some of the best visuals seen on the PS4, the presentation here is top notch.

However, where the game really suffers and presumably why it's bombing so hard on here right now is because the story is shambolically bad. Character development should be called character regression specifically for this game, and I'm not just talking about controversial moments. The game spectacularly fails at introducing one of its leads, and does nothing throughout a long section of the game to make you want to play as this person. I know her motives, what she does and how she turns out, so I'm simply a passenger along for a really long, boring bus ride. And when I get to the end, i realise I should never have gone in the first place.

They could have gone so many way with the sequel, but instead they chosen the "cheap" revenge story.
Killed my favorite character so early in the game just for the sake of killing characters & the "shock factor".
Also.. false advertisements, the game made you play as other characters(she-hulk marvel crossover yay!) midway through the game that not shown at all in any trailer/promotion.

    Final Verdict:
It has a little something for everyone 10/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. - Gameplay is pretty solid. Visuals are stunning, and are as good as they'll get for the farewell of this console gen. The setting itself is well developed, and a continuously bleak one.
    - Characters and Plotline are pretty much **** though.
    - Trailers intentionally mislead the audience, by using wrong character models for Joel. Dude dies 2 hours into the game, and is mostly seen through flashbacks.
    - Joel and Ellie break character to get the plot rolling.
    - New protagonist is **** Like the MGS2 twist but you play as a Johnny ****-my-Pants who just killed of Solid Snake and is wholly unlikable.
    - Did I mention how the game attempts to vilify the previous protagonists beyond belief, while shoving their new one down your throat?
    - God the sex scene, what in gods name.

All in all, extremely disappointing, cannot recommend, especially if you're a fan of the first game.
It's like they carefully analyzed all the reasons folks liked the first game and said, "Lets do the opposite of that, it sure will be subversive and thought provoking!".

This is a terrible sequel to a great game, the writing for this is inconsistent and lacks a clear vision and instead relies on shock factors and forcing the player to make dark depressing choices to make them feel bad instead of giving any choice. ND started with Crash back in 96 and I was a diehard fan of them and every game they made, even Uncharted 3, have been pretty great up to this point, but they just need to purge their writing staff and get the old writers back. The story isn't entertaining , full of plot holes , and the sex scenes were really uncomfortable. Even the controls suck and feel clunky. and I would love to know how they messed the controls up after 7 years of development.

No character development , beloved characters are treated like worthless beings , and the game contradicts it's own ideologies with a disgusting unsatisfying conclusion.
And the false advertising was really shady too ,using Joel to advertise the game then treating him like a dog was a really disgusting thing to do.

Who is the intended audience of this game ? Clearly it's not the fans of the original.

And yes the game is full SJW agenda even when it goes against realism (like abby's body). You can't have a body like that as a woman in a post apocalyptic world , without steroids ,and A LOT of food.Character designs are supposed to be likable ,making beautiful characters isn't sexist , it makes them appealing to the players , hollywood does the same while hiring actors , they hire people with good looks , because they are appealing.

How did those critics give it a 10? Just how ? At least now I am never buying a game that has anything to do with c u c k man from now on. Still , I am really disappointed from what happened to a franchise that I once loved.

Dear Naughty Dog or whomever this may concern. (Story Script)

The game's mechanics are not very innovative. The graphics are pretty good. If the story was good, which is the main reason why anyone would get attached to a game...this game would truly receive a 9.x from me. However, looking at what you have delivered.. I can't help myself to hate whoever us responsible for the story.

Don't get me wrong. I don't care about the sexuality of any character as long as the character has substance and is important to the plot.
What TLOU2 did was not very good story telling. Character development was pretty bad too.... If they at least had changed the story chronologically a little bit, it could have been a 5.5+ in rating.

I want to REMIND everyone that we are GAMERS and we don't care for a game like TLOU where it is solely about survival, beating the bad guys that want to harm us or zombies to contain a moral message at the end with a very bad script and lots of confusion and story telling that is worse than Game Of Throne's Final Season. It was filled with so much political and moral bull crap. We already have to deal with it IRL everyday.

Why do you have to drag this into a VIDEO GAME??? Don't ruin fictional worlds with your narrative. A little bit isn't bad but what you delivered was nothing but a novel for extreme moral activists. The person who you hired for the story telling should get fired.

Look at the reviews, btw, that's not a brigade. These are gamers who have been disappointed by your story telling which is quite justified. Your JjjjjjjOurRnaLisTs that have reviewed it with 10s are not even real TLOU fans, they review games for a living, for them to survive, they have to lay in a good word.

You know it anyway Naughty Dog, have fun and congratulations on alienating your fanbase. It showed pretty well in history where it leads to. Go woke go broke. I hope you enjoy LTOU2s entry into history as a failure for the fans and die hard gamers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics were amazing; on point, as a game in 2020 should have. The development of Ellie was something to behold, too. Her growth skills-wise (swimming, playing the guitar) sets an admirable waypoint to the age between part 1 and 2. The gameplay is roughly the same, but I have no problem with what isn't broken.

I wanted to love this game. I do. I wanted it all to make sense, but it doesn't. It preaches that "one must end the cycle of violence", that somehow it makes sense that the ending would be the way it was, but let's face it: Protag#2 didn't deserve her fate. You can't give respite to the person who started Ellie's journey while letting Ellie sit on her ashes. At the end of it all, Ellie did what she had to do, and just as the story ought to conclude, just as she would have given honor to how Joel was lambasted by the characters, the plot (and by extension, the producers/ story planners), Ellie pulls the punch. Unsatisfying. Disappointing, and horrendous.

I'm not sure to whom this story was meant to cater to. Everyone is just miserable at the end, except for Protag#2 who casually sails away with her adoptive friend/ child-- the person who doesn't deserve it the most.

Even the accolades of gameplay and graphics doesn't dazzle me. Why play this game?

But this game's story does a huge disservice to the game and sucks out all the fun. They tried to make the story special but instead made the biggest disappointment of a sequel ever.
I enjoy sad stuff but this game is just misery. An inconclusive misery. The game tries to set itself apart but sacrifices all the buildup and the positives the franchises had. The game is emotional only on a superficial level. But it is good at misdirecting people with depressive stuff. The main character of previous story is sacrificed for shock value and we get a mediocre story in return. It results in his overall story being meaningless just to serve as a plot point.
This mediocre revenge trope is supposed to have some deeper meaning but it fails at that too. What is the point of deeper meaning when life or death gets decided by luck. Revenge is bad? Not if you are lucky and those whom you wanted to exact revenge on are unlucky. You should forgive others? Not if others aren't main characters. The cycle of revenge is still going on because you killed others along the way and people close to those you killed can still come to direct revenge at you. Also the story has plotholes.
Characters and their intentions are contradictory. There are elements of the game which are mind-blowing but the whole game is super disappointing.
I don't recommend this game to the true fans of the original TLOU and those who loved the original characters.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a terrible sequel. It is riddled with plot holes, most notably in one of the biggest moments of the game, Joel's death. If you are going to kill Joel off in such a controversial fashion, the very least you can do is explain it well. it is lazy. The game is also structured awfully, they waste about 6 or 7 hours on flashbacks for Abby, clearly trying to flesh out characters like Owen, Mel, Manny, etc, but it doesn't do anything because they were killed hours ago, nobody cares about them anymore and the death doesn't have anywhere near the impact it could have had. It doesn't do anything for Abby either, because she has already killed Joel and fans have made up their minds about her. It doesn't help that these flashbacks are repetitive and boring. Also, so many of these characters that are killed are never mentioned again after their deaths, how are we supposed to care about them if the writers and the other characters don't care about them?

Abby, the character they make us play as for half the game, is a horrible person. She brutally and mercilessly kills Joel despite the fact he just saved her life, there's no inner conflict, she is so one-dimensional. She takes pleasure at the prospect of killing Dina, who she knows is pregnant. She sleeps with Owen knowing his wife is due a baby soon. And this is the character they make us play as? This is the character they make us fight Ellie as? Who made that horrible decision? Who wants to play as a character you despise, where is the motivation to keep playing? Despite that, they still try to make Ellie out to be the bad guy. Abby pets dogs and is kind to them, compared to Ellie who is forced to kill dogs and you can clearly hear them in pain, Ellie kills a pregnant woman, Ellie murders people whilst they loved ones mourn and cry. Compared to Abby, who has to defend herself against evil transphobic jungle people, Abby, who saves kids. it is so cheap and manipulative. Speaking of cheap and manipulative, the false advertising in the trailers is so scummy.

The game tells this generic story of revenge and how bad it is. It has been done so many times before and been done far better. Revenge only seems bad when it comes to Ellie though, Abby seems to have no problem taking revenge, because she is one-dimensional and badly written She is the person who takes revenge, but she is also the one who walks away with a loved one. Makes no sense. Many of the major plot points are also badly written, and don't make sense.

Ellie is just straight up cruel to Joel. She used to understand people, she understood emotions, she understood Joel. So why does she not realise why Joel saved her? She knows how much Sarah meant to Joel, Joel does not want to go through that again, he doesn’t want to lose another daughter. All those years of protecting Ellie, thrown out of the window because Joel didn’t want to lose her. Because Joel gave her a choice of life or death, and Ellie doesn’t like that. The writers don’t seem to understand the first game at all, they don’t understand what made it compelling.

The gameplay is fine, although they don't significantly change anything from the first game, the visuals are great, but that is not what I play TLOU for, I play it for the story, and the story could not have been worse. This sequel should never have been made. What a disappointment.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you were impatient to continue the deep stroy of TLOU focus on the bond between Ellie and Joel you might get disappointed with this game. While the gameplay is an enhance version of the original its repetitive when you are 15 hours into the game, with fewer puzzles and simply succession of infiltration, escape and murdering sequence. The graphics and audio are amazing, but the realism become sometime unbearable with extremly violent scenes throughout the game and also a few sexual scenes (which were poorly handled). The big disappointment however come with the story. Its simply a classic revenge plot, which make you follow Ellie for the first half, while the second half focus on a new character Abby who stole the spotlights, despite being the antagonist and the person to kill in the first half. And don't hope to continue your adventure with Joel. False advertising may show him in various sequence, but it was actually another character in this sequence or flashback. Joel is killed from the beginning, with no hope to save him, and the ending doesn't even give you the satisfaction to make revenge for Joel. Instead you let the murderer get away, and you watch Ellie abandonned by everyone, and thinking about killing herself to create a cure.

Depressing and bad story kill this game for me.

Either lots of changes went on recently before launch,or the trailers were made deliberately to trick fans. If you loved TLOU1, and are looking forward to a new Joel and Ellie experience this is not it. If you saw the trailer and thought this game would carry the magic of the first game, this is not it. Joel and Ellies dynamic is thrown out the window, their decision making has been completely retconned. The major plot points set in motion by Ellie and Joel are completely out of character. This honestly feels like a fan made story, but with a triple A budget for gameplay. I have no idea what was going on in the writers room, this new story completely disrespects Ellie and Joel and still leaves loose ends for a part 3. Expand
