A good graphic quality or a good gameplay can have any game, but if it does not have a good story, that is already a problem. The problem is mainly his political ideology and his characterization of characters.

1-Mainly highlight Joel, a man who has been able to destroy practically a base full of survivors (Joel is in a really dying state full of wounds) only to save a girl in the first game, he is killed by a girl ( daughter of one of the doctors from the first game) looking for revenge in the most absurd way possible, in this aspect it would have been more accurate to kill Joel in a way that is at his level, not to be killed by a "captain marvel"
2- everything that is touched by gender ideology is known to ruin it, we can see that in all types of movies, series or exactly in this video game, if you want to see any possible example of this I invite you to see terminator dark fate , birds of prey, the looney toons themselves who are going to make a series "without violence", Charlie's Angels, captain marvel, etc.
3-Its gameplay in a way is not good for all kinds of audiences, it is certainly not something that innovates at all or that it has something to highlight, it is just one more game with an "old" mechanics (2015) with slight improvements, It is good but without going further, nothing that stands out outside the common.
4- in its graphic section it is not something that stands out much in itself, I consider that the setting of the city could have been seen in a more "sinister" way, so to speak, showing how the infection advanced through the city and not the same nature, since only the city will see few infected (when practically most of humanity had been massacred by this infection and is in the epicenter of a city), I think that showing only some parts where the infection advanced is something that is totally wasted.
Generally speaking, the game does not stand out in anything, it is not good in history, in its way of playing, in its character characterization, in its setting (except in some parts such as the hospital where Abby enters), etc. But if we have to talk about its end, ellie kills any number of people just so that she feels guilty at the end of the game, it is unfortunate and disappointing.
but well, it is what you have.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The squeal to a quite loved and passion filled game. Waiting years for a rather large disappointment. On the surface the game is quite beautiful, with rich lush environments with a good sound design. The game feels MUCH more fluid compared to its predecessor, but the lack of care in story writing truly hurt this game.

From the moment Joel walks into a trap that makes literally no sense for his and his brothers character. Considering they have 20+ years of survival experience and jaded from the pain of the past. Why were they so trusting? It doesn't make sense for them.

Add on the weird swap of character for Ellie at the very end of the game when she can end the one who has caused her all this pain, made her lose fingers, made her lose her girl. She can end what she had started. Then she doesn't, cause of a flashback? It feels fake, it feels like they want to create a third game with the new character Abby... Of which let's discuss the elephant in the room.

Abby, the murder of Joel, and forced to play as her for 10+ hours. With an awkward sex scene to disdain for the character. No one enjoyed her, at least I didn't. Her sections of the game are not awful but it feels so wrong playing the murderer of someone we have loved so dearly for years.

Gameplay feels although much SMOOTHER than the first, it is still the same spamming of punches and even worse gun play. The increase of environments made stealth and playing slow far more rewarding. The failure to increase the AI's intelligence, to improve on the previous systems, and to provide more tools to use the new areas more effectively. Makes the game feel very repetitive very quickly. Even more so if you just played TLOU1 before buying this one (In order to refresh your memory).

The music, visuals, and sound design do carry a large portion of the game, but it feels as empty as the world they are in.

    This game is beautiful!

Game play is crisp excluding the dodge mechanic which needs work.

    Cons:
Game doesn't let you play your way it forces you to sneak sometime while forcing you to flee others which is fine just not my style.

Linear story could have been opened up more like the first area to allow more exploration and open world feeling.

The story is terrible or at least half of the story, I have never played a game that seems like it was made by two completely different teams. Playing as Ellie is great, and Abby is a chore.

The main mechanic is playing one side then the other when both are not equal in quality this does not work.

TLDR: They missed the mark with this game, and it is only exacerbated by "game journalists" who refuse to give an unbiased review. I wanted to love this game however after over 20 hours I could not stand to play it any longer making this the first game I have ever traded in on release week.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has THE most beautiful visuals and audio that I ever experienced, but one of the most disappointing plot drags it all down.

Graphics, design, acting and sound are amazing. ND has the best art team. But I was never into gaming for graphics - it's like 20% of the experience for me, maybe even less. Graphics can't really add much score to the game (for me). It's a multiplyer. It could make a good game great, but it doesn't do much to elevate a bad game, which is the case with TLOU2.

The atmosphere and plot is Bleak and Hopeless. Everything is going from good to bad to worse, and you are forced to watch this trainwreck. Not only that, you are forced to actively participate in it. I cannot count the number of times when the character is about to do something utterly stupid or just disgusting and abhorrently evil, and I simply find myself not wanting to progress. I want to turn away and walk in the other direction, but I can't.
It wouldn't be as bad, but the game then actively moralizes with YOU, and scolds YOU as a player for making those decisions and actions that you didn't make. The writer made those decisions for you, and then he punishes you for playing the game that he made.
And every damn character, including Allie is like that. Every last one of them is unlikeable. Except Joel, that is DEAD and that we meet in flashbacks that is the only positive thing of the game. But if you're ever allowed to witness that positivity and feel good - that only means that the game is preparing to dip you head first in a bucket of **** because as soon as you'll return to reality, all that positivity will be crushed by something terrible. It's to the point that I found myself completely emptionally detached and simply not caring about anything that happens. I had an urge to skip cutscenes in this game.
I'm forced to watch my favorite character deconstructing herself for 15 hours (let's not count the Abby part where I just want to get over with as fast as possible because I want this **** dead).

Then there's a problem of the second character. Basically what they do with Abby is they first make us hate her, and then they force us to PLAY AS HER and show us that she's not as bad. Problem is, first impression is already made, and it's THE WORST. No matter what you do after that, I just can't get over the bitterness of knowing what this **** did, and I can't warm up to her.
Having a totally unlikeable personality and, let me be blunt here, ugly testosterone-filled looks doesn't help.

And then it ends with.... nothing.
We've killed so many, we've lost so much, Allie crossed all the bridges... And then we spare the only person who ACTUALLY deserved to die? We just let her go... for what? Why? Why should Abby get to live? The only way they could possibly make it ANY worse was for Ellie to spare her and for that to get drowned by Abby immediately. That'd be nice. And that'd fit in with the story.

There's zero positive things to this game other than visuals.
Gameplay is mediocre - it's not improved from the first part and feels outdated. It's even worse, somehow.

Now look. I think that some people will enjoy that story. Truly. For them - this will be a 10/10 experience. But I think the majority of the fans will NOT.

Here's the thing. I do think that some movies and games should go in that direction. To be dark, bleak, violent, outright depressing - all of which TLOU2 is.
But I feel that if you're making a SEQUEL - you can not just change the tone so much. Imagine watching Raven first, which is a bleak, somewhat depressing movie, but it has hope and satisfying finale. Then you go into sequel, and all that happens is those ****ty things but without any Raven to punish the villains. You're just watching them torture and kill people for 2 hours.
That's the tonal change of TLOU2. Everything is BAD, and will get worse.
I think when you make a SEQUEL, you have a bit of a responsibility to your fans to make it "more of the same", to make it satisfying to people who loved the original.
If it was a standalone, I would just say it isn't for me. As a Sequel to my favorite game - I can't just let it go.

The story is 0/10 for me.
The press that all gave it 10/10? Most of them are SHILLS. Maybe they don't get outright PAID, but they rate it high so that they keep receiving early copies. Because if they rate it low - next time ND and Sony wouldn't send it. They are INCENTIVISED to rate high.

Aside from graphics, there's nothing to give 10/10 for. Outdated gameplay and unpleasant unfulfilling story that should leave most of the fans extremely upset, and most of normal people at least partially distressed thanks to all the violence and so on.

The result is +2 for graphics + 6 for gameplay - 5 for story. Yes, actually negative score for story. If there was no story and just beautiful levels - the game would have been BETTER.
    Result: 3/10 game for me.
Literally do not recommend this to people like me.

Great graphics, yeah, pretty good facial animations and the like, but unfortunately it’s bogged down by a pretty contradicting and terrible narrative, with certain characters (Joel specifically) being naive enough to end up in a deathtrap (something anyone who knows Joel would know he’d never do), and with a game focused on revenge, you’d think, you know, the main character (Ellie) would be able to exact that revenge. Now this sequel is just one of the most boring game i ever played, the pacing is horrible, the gameplay loop consists of; looting > horde/boss fight > 1 hours of walking/talking/cutscenes, for 30 hour. It doesn't sound so bad if well executed but first both characters play exactly the same and second the writing is on par with the worse netflix production, the dialogues belong in an episode of 13 reasons why and the plot is so stupid i wonder if any mentally abled adult took part in the writing. To this add that you'll fight the same enemies over and over again in setpieces that you've already seen in better games.

On the graphic side the game looks really good but doesn't run smoothly and often suffers from framerate drop (even though the game only runs at 20-30 fps and even though i played it on a ps4 pro ).

Oh i forgot, almost all the environnments are grey and green and look copy/pasted except for the last part of the game (which was actually enjoyable, too bad it took 25 hours of watching paint dry to get there).

Overall there could be a decent game in all this mess but it's destroyed by the pacing and bad writing, for every good idea there are 10 bad ones. Really to think that this took 5 years to make and had close to unlimited budget is embarassing, kinda reminds me of the rise of skywalker :D

Some aspects of the story downright contradict the message that the game attempts to forcefeed us - oh yeah, it's kind of an interactive lecture, by the way.

I know Neil said the first game was about love, and this one would be about hate, but he kinda made it so that I hate the game itself. What a shame

The game story line just plain sucks. I mean it's one thing to kill off Joel but it's another when you have to take control of the character who kills off one of the best characters around, That to me is one of the dumbest decisions. And of course the ending is just complete **** The entire game was based on the fact that this is all about revenge and yet for some reason at the end after Abby kills Ellie's father figure and some friends and bites of Ellie's fingers all of a sudden revenge doesn't come into play And its all about forgiveness? Basically there's no payoff, you don't get revenge for Joel. Yes stupid move naughty dog. And let's also talk about the fact that naughty dog lied to its fans. In the trailers we see Joel and Ellie interact In certain times but instead when the games out now it's actually Ellie and Jesse or flashbacks? And naughty dog and Laura Bailey and all these people that are supporting the game are wondering why fans are upset? Yeah this is not a good game this has so many issues the story was a mess, and the best character of the whole last of us universe gets killed it within 2 hours Yes the reason why this gets a 3 out of 10 for me is because the graphics are great and that's it everything else sucks. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really didn't enjoy the 2nd half of the game. I just couldn't sympathize with Abby at all, even though the game tried really hard to get me to like her. And it's not like I can't like someone who does kill one of fav. characters. In other TV shows and games I could not forgive them but I got to like them, but not with Abby. I went in to the game thinking there is no way I won't like the game. I thought all the hate was just from butthurt people who didn't want that Joel died or that ellie is lesbian.. But I really didn't enjoy my time with the game.
It's not just the fact that I played as Abby but also that they teased the climax and then made me play 10 hours only thinking about what would happen. I think if they would have made me switch the characters more often like 2 times a day and changed the story so it would still make sense I could have really enjoyed it. But that just wasn't the case. And games for me are not all about enjoyment but it just dragged on and on.. And I could only think about ending the game.
So I really thinking a few small changes (not the story) could have made me like Abby much more and so made me more invested in the story. For example I didn't give a fluff about lev or his sister or anyone who was with abby. There are also a few things that I can't really believe would have really happened the way they did like when we get to play as Abby chase down ellie through the curtain. Ellie could have just taken her shotgun and wait for Abby to open the door and shoot her in the knee but I can live with these mistakes. Im just really sad I couldn't enjoy the game that much.)(I also need to say that I played hellblade senua sacrifice and I felt really uncomfortable and needed to stop many times playing it because it made me feel sick in my head but even though the ending also was really sad I could enjoy it much more than tlou2.) Oh and also the other aspects of the game are top notch. Graphics, sound, music, acting, and the world. The game play got pretty boring after 20 hours. So in the end I wouldn't say the story was bad it was just in a unfortunate order. I don't know if it really only deserves a 3/10 but just really didn't enjoy it so...

It gets boring watching generic character dramas play out, and certain of these characters have been dumbed down from the last game as part of a frustratingly bad plot device. The game unfortunately ruins everything the original set up, complete disregard for anything that came before. total shame after all these years of waiting for what should of been an incredible experience.

Writing and dialogue is awkward and strangely paced. Can't really recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the first simply because it makes the first game feel like it wasn't worth playing

Got to day 2 and I have lost all motivation to continue. Such a shame, I really wanted to love this game, I tried, I really did. But just can’t get over the poor story and execution of it. The game looks amazing, but I’d rather play a 20 year old game with 2D graphics and an amazing story, than play TLOU2 with the story it has :( I am genuinely sad, I waited years to play this.

Have been waiting so long for a sequel. When i found out that the game was leaked i tried my best to stay away from spoilers. Everything about the game was great except it's story. Joel didn't deserve to go out like that. I expected that he would die in the sequel but why did you have to kill him off just two hours into the game,he deserved better than this. Identity politics in the game felt too forced. Why do SJW's have to ruin everything that i love? Everything that I loved about the first game was completely ruined by Neil Druckman. Expand

Hard to score. This game was never going to live up to the mastery that was TLOU, but it feels like they didn’t even really try.

The story is sub-par, feels like a bunch of cliches and tick-boxes. A lot of it doesn’t make sense and the6 have bent the logic of character decisions to the absolute max. It’s a shame.

Has a completely different feel, the infected don’t feel like the main antagonists here, so they have lost a lot of their “scare-factor”. When it is now humans who are the main enemies, it doesn’t feel so hopeless and therefore no where near as scary.

Overall, I would recommend this game if it was on sale at £15 or something but I imagine a lot of people who paid full price (like me) are going to be sorely disappointed.

I gave it a 3, due to disappointment, a sense of false advertisement and bad storytelling.

The game's story is a tragedy (as in genre, like romeo and juliet), unlike the first game which was hope within a tragic world. Characters act irrationally to further complicate situations and problems. If the game's purpose was to make the player feel despair, they succeeded. but no that is not fun, and nothing like why the original was so great

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I´ll just explain the positives first. The Last of Us 2 has indeed Naughty Dog quality in terms of graphics, animation, world design, art, and sound. Gameplay has been tweaked and is more fun and aggressive than the last entry. Now, the negatives... to start slow we can talk about how the game has practically zero enemy variety so you will be shooting the same enemies for 25-30 hours. There are only 2 new infected, the shamblers and a pretty disgusting one that looks like it came out of Resident Evil. Now, the big bad wolf, the story... it´s bad. It´s not a revenge story because it doesn´t fulfill itself, it´s just pure hate. What made TLOU 1 great was Ellie and Joel. TLOU 2 ruins both characters by killing one and twisting another to something unrecognizable. Of all the new characters Jesse was the only salvageable. The story has brutality for brutality´s sake, so much in fact you become numb to it and don´t give a crap anymore. TLOU 2 talks about issues that have ZERO place in the apocalypse like gender identity issues and bigots. The ending was probably worse than Mass Effect 3. Expand

You can see it pretty much every time when you face opinion(review of this game) on the internet. I watched all cutscenes and some gameplay on YT(i let you consider my opinion means nothing), that's fine to be fair. I dislike the first game much more than the second one. i would probably even buy it. I should say that i support changing of MTCRTC policy and that the US is too low(idiots just keep rating this game low knowing nothing about this game) and it has right to be higher than critics score, cause people judge by their emotions and impressions. The fun part is that usually people popularproductshaterlike have the same taste as the ones they talking **** about.
    AND TO THE REVIEW:
Good parts(not so many): direction, acting, some good moments in story and storytelling(just moments). I really liked Abby(everything made to make her look like that) and her friends(Owen, Manny) is fine too.
And to the bad part: gameplay is outdated and superrepetative, dialogues are disgusting, scenario is't bad, on the first look, but so much predicrable and lazy, it keeps pressuring the feelings of non-smart audience all the time, no realism in story(not about gameplay), the absolute most of characters(incuding our "lovely" Ellie) are as flat as the chest of my 2D girlfriend.
CONSIDERING this game is highly overrated by "press" and widely-known and popular i can give the Last of US game just 3. Yes, this game has some moments, strong direction and really works with emotion, on the other hand gameplay is trash, everything about content(complicated content, plot, narrative direction) is superbad, considering cheap manipulations and endless subsidiary to anything talented we have a fitting sequel to "classic" The Last of Us of 2013 game. Neil Druckmann keeps his level and even rises above.

P.S.Love Abby and you, guys, have a good day.

The story would have been somewhat ok if they just rearranged the whole story and have had a much more cronological order.

The Ellie flashbacks are really good and is on of the few things that make this game somewhat ok.

Playing as Debby quickly got boring and you had no incentive to try to find and kill Ellie, all meanwhile you are waiting for the story to continue where the cliffhanger left off.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a huge fan of the story behind The Last of Us Part 1, the 2nd addition to the story and franchise just leaves me in disgust. A lot of things are PHENOMENAL. The intro for instance was a genius of artwork - however what followed such a STRONG and EMOTIONAL opening to The Last of Us Part 2 only ends in what I mentioned earlier - disgust.

    Pros:
    - Beautiful set pieces, graphics, all of the usual Naughty Dog things.
    - More sense of an "open world" exploration to the game.
    - Well realized world building.

    Cons:
-The centerpiece of the game. The story.
-Contradictory game play to the story building cinematics
    > How are we gonna see Ellie break down in panic and trauma after killing certain people in cut scenes after she MERCILESSLY butchered down hundreds of people in quick fashion as if it was the normal daily cup of joe for the day? This did not make sense and makes the player feel at odds with what Naughty Dog is trying to convey.
-Obvious plot holes and synchronization issues to the characters we KNEW and LOVED from part 1.
    > You're trying to tell me Joel, the killing machine himself with very little trust in ANYONE'S intentions (rightfully so in the cruel and grim world The Last of us Part 1 builds) is going to help a stranger that is on their patrol grounds and then go to THEIR HIDEOUT in an EXTREMELY VULNERABLE FASHION when Abby CONFIRMS THEY ARE ARMED AND HAVE A PERIMETER? This made absolutely no sense and was the worst way to introduce a moment of extreme gravity. It's not that it was done, it's HOW it was done. This is such a shame.

It's a shame this game will make GOTY nominations and receive a ton of rewards due to it's progressive and LGBTQ themes that are heavily littered through-out the game. These concepts and real life political topics are abused by game developers to 1. Shield themselves from negative reception, because "The people who dislike it are just bigots." and 2. The people who set up these rewards tend to LOVE it, and they (Naughty Dog) KNOW that. This is a spit in the face to the LBGTQ community and some realize that they are only being used as a shield for award nominations / GOTY nominations.

I can only give this game, as it is STORY CENTRIC, a 3 out of 10 at best. I'm sorry, and this sequel deeply disappointing me, as a prior HUGE fan of Naughty Dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good graphics and game play. The story is just sad. They kill off Joel, Ellie becomes a tormented soul who loses everything, and the only redeeming quality comes from Abby, Joel's killer. What's worse is that you have no choice in the matter to show mercy at any point in the game. You are forced to kill.
Then there is actual sex in the game, along with drug use, you see a pregnant woman get killed and your dog. If they had a good story, this game would have been great. It doesn't. It's like Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull or the Star wars sequels or the last few episodes of Game of Thrones where characters turn bad for no reason at all.. There are several times when you think the game is going to fix things, but they only make it worse. The story was what made the Original Last of Us Epic. Buy this game when it goes on sale. The game play was fun, but the story was like it was made for 2020! We wanted a good game, we ended up getting a tragedy that disappoints and is depressing. It makes playing the whole first game pointless. All of the turnover at Naughty Dog explains why we got this crap. They really emphasize gay and trans characters, to the point that they really want to use it as a main plot line, and a built in excuse that anyone that doesn't like the story they can say well they are just bigots and homophobes. The truth is they have a depressing story that everyone hates, whether you are gay, trans, or straight. Ugh! If this is the future of gaming, then the gaming future is doomed.

Bland and boring gameplay. This game does nothing new. Jump button is totally useless and doesn't make a difference. Half of the game is just walking around from place A to place B, killing enemies with one single stealth animation.

The first part of "The Last of Us" was a medium quality game. The gameplay at the level of the first part, not some revelations or conceptually new ideas in it. The plot is not so simple. As it was written earlier, the plot of the first part is a mishmash of cliches, stamps and “stolen” ideas, and it would be better if the plot of the second part was the same. What the plot turned into is hard to say without the use of obscene curses. And we are not talking about those things on which the Internet raged for at least half a year. My entryway neighbor is a representative of the LGBT community, by the way I played the second part in her apartment, because I don’t have a PS4, but she has one. And even she, watching my play, during the cut-scenes, sat with the expression of Jackie Chan from that meme. As a result, for me personally, the process of the game “The Last of Us part 2” was similar to the process of eating a lean sandwich. Outwardly, it looks beautiful (graphics), it tastes tasteless (gameplay) and at the same time, in between biting off another piece, they poke a sharp stick in your stomach (plot). This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let. Me start off by saying I loved the last of us. It was probably one of my favorite game of all time. If they made a part 2 I always wanted it to be a prequel showing the bad side of Joel those first beginning years of the outbreak. Needless to say Joel is my favorite character. Now I am used to characters dying because I am a game of thrones fan and I kinda appreciate what they were trying to do here but it just felt lacking. Joel deserve more even if your going to kill him off. There were some things I really liked about the game though. The graphics were sex an upgrade probably some of the best. I ever seen. To be honest. It felt as thought the mechanics didn't get much of an upgrade but its understandable because I don't know what else you could do.the puzzles really had me upset the ones in the first game were a lot better. I do like to have missons with the Joel and Ellie mechanic. Flaoting Ellie on pallets was nice and i liked the call back too it. I was disappointed with the story though naughty dog I expected better.s Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will start off my review by saying that I had very high expectations from a sequel to one of the best games of all time. The Last of Us is a harrowing story about loss set in a post apocalyptic world and it was the work of wonderful people like Amy Henning and Bruce Straley. The fact that they did not return and that Amy was forced out of the company already should've rung alarm bells for everyone. But despite that, i took my chance.

    And was utterly disappointed.

Let me start off by listing the few positives of this game. The combat has improved, and the world looks beautiful and immersive, which is fair game and expected from the developer of Unchartered 4. That's the only reason it gets 2 stars from me.

But the story. My God, the story is a dumpster fire. It's like someone wrote down words from excrement and plastered it into the script.

The whole point is, the story itself has so many loopholes with little logic and the characters act so out of tone with what they are and have been established as in the first game that it can only be tantamount to lazy writing.

Take Joel's death, that meetup with Abby does not even feel organic (it's a random hit in with runners). Next, the fact that Joel saves Abby from runners and still is brutally tortured to death by her with utter disregard for saving her life completely throws one off completely. It's like the writer chose shock value over basic common sense to kill Joel off in the first 2 hours of the game!

In the first game, Joel could tell someone was faking help and was extremely wary. How does Neil Druckman expect us to believe Joel would go out of character and just lower his guard and walk into a room armed full of people from another country and tell them his own identity? The man was wanted over the country for his massacre of the Fireflies and Naughty Dog expects us to forget that? Also, how could Abby ascertain this was the only Joel they were looking for?

The plot holes are as big as quantum singularities aka blackholes and it's not even the beginning.

After shamelessly killing off one of video games most beloved character in such a disgusting fashion (the golf memes are on point), Neil Druckman forces us to step into the shoes of the killer, Abby, and tries to force feed us "the other side" from her perspective. To further add salt to our wounds, a self insert of Druckman spits on Joel's body and hurls abuses at him. I understand you had to let Joel off, but atleast do it in a respectable way! Like some self sacrifice that was how it was done by Rockstar brilliantly in Red Dead Redemption or Arthur Morgan in RDR 2.

The game also retcons Joel's decision and tries to show us he was wrong, when in the first game even the Fireflies knew that all previous attempts at creating a vaccine using live test subjects had failed. And it tries to literally show to us that Joel was the villain, when in effect he was a man who did not want to lose another daughter to a slim chance.

Let's move on, Ellie then goes on a revenge quest, and massacres a huge number of folk along the way. The vast majority of the game displays us this gore and violence over and over again that it becomes numbing and nauseating. The game is bleak just cause it wants to show it is bleak and not because there is some method to madness or grand design. It doesn't gasp for air at all save in momentary flashbacks.

The player visibly feels enraged and wants Joel to be avenged by partaking in this violence through Ellie but then in the very end, Neil Druckman completely forces us to accept the one choice of NOT KILLING ABBY all in the name of "cycle of revenge is bad". The fact that this was so badly done and ham fisted is what has enraged folks rightly.

The fact that Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War did themes on revenge better than the Last of Us is utterly shocking and disappointing. At least Naughty Dog should have let the player take the choice of killing Abby or not but the fact they force fed us this hogwash is what has drawn fans of the game into righteous rage. What was the whole point of revenge and showing violence if it was all bad? That whole spell of violence Ellie does is rendered useless in a single epiphany. Ellie loses everything and gains nothing, rather than projecting violence and revenge is bad, the game actually ends up making a strong case for it!

This ending and the way the game pans out really what has driven fans on the edge. This is worse than GoT season 8 and Star wars. The reaction is justified and Neil Druckman will be called out and face a backlash for this dumpster fire of a video game.

In the first Last of Us, Ellie tells us the her fear was to end up left alone. The game ends on this note, her fingers bitten off in the final fight with Abby, her partner Dina has left her, her protector Joel is dead. It was, to quote the first game "really all for nothing".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In this game everything is perfect except for the parts where Neil Druckmann has put his hands on.
Graphics, gameplay, sound, level design, absolutely crazy attention to details, animations and everything is literally perfect and blows my mind. The Naughty Dog team is one of my favorite game studios along with Bioware and CD Projekt Red and it raised the quality level for the whole industry once more.
The Naughty Dog team - I applaud you, you have done everything possible and impossible given the capabilities of PS4. And I'm really sorry that Druckmann has spoiled everything you worked on so hard. The score I put does not go to you, guys, it goes to him. You've deserved your 10/10 and I wish you only good.
Now the part addressed to Mr. Druckmann:
Dear Neil, I am an old fan of Naughty Dog and its games. I've played all parts of Crash Bandicoot (on original PS, PSP, PS3 and PS4), Uncharted (on PS3, PS4 and PS Vita) and TLOU. I love ND's games. Even though I am a bearded big guy, I was crying several times during certain moments in Uncharted and TLOU. I fell in love with Ellie and Joel. I was associating myself with the latter and bakc then I understood how cool it is to have a daughter (I always wanted a son). I even felt myself like a father even though I do not have kids yet (due to certain psychological traumas I have). And I liked this feeling. TLOU changed my attitude to kids and healed at least one of my psychological traumas.
While we're done with the intro, let's get to criticism:
    1) You've killed Joel in the first hours of the game. I understand that you're an artist and such, but man - that's not something that fans wanted. Something broke inside me during this scene and I hardly made myself play this game further.
    2) You are forcing LGBT and strong women agenda in this game. What for, man? Majority of this game's fans are young straight men like I am. I have respect for LGBT and women, but you're just forcing these topics in this game. Many scenes are devoted to these topics and they look completely forced. A trans person, who is trying to find him/herself during the apocalypse? A woman who looks like a man in a detailed sex scene? Women with unshaved armpits? That all is ok, but man - I DID NOT WANT TO SEE THIS. Just like the majority of players, who are heterosexual men. Companies are always trying to make their product meet expectations of their customers. Can you imagine that Apple releases only 1 model of iPhone 12 with 2.6" display because 1-3" of their customers got small hands and they require small displays? Can you imagine Apple say that all the other 97% are haters so they can go screw themselves if they don't like 2.6" iPhone?
    3) Ending. Ellie killed hundreds of people on her way to vengeance for Joel, she lost her fingers and then she suddenly realises that killing a person who killed Joel is stupid. Bravo, everyone would do the same.
You have spoiled the whole game with forcing these 2 topics, killing Joel and coming up with completely illogical and unreaslistic ending. Hundreds of talented people have been working hard and staying late to make this game perfect. But your stupid ideas ruined everything they were putting their souls in.
You should apologize before fans and everyone in ND and leave this company for good. Go to your best friend Anita and do whatever you want, but don't you ever dare to spoil something that really talented people do.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Jesus, where do I even begin. On a technical level, this is Naughty Dog's best game. The graphics are amazing and the gameplay is buttery smooth. I do wish the jump button was used in a more interesting way. The combat feels mostly the same with new additions like the silencer that I enjoyed the most. I feel that upgrades for guns and abilities have been done better in this game too. Environments feel more real and they were a blast to play through. Those were my only positives sadly. I played this game on hard and god damn is this AI bad, absolutely no strides forward since 2013 and I had to check a few times to see if the difficulty switched to easy or something. And the story, I hated every second of it. The reason that I fell in love with the first game was because of how real the characters were. I know it has been said a million times but I love the relationship between Joel and Ellie and I couldn't wait to see what they would do in this game. So why does Joel get merked in the first 2 hours? It pisses me off beyond belief. In my opinion, the characters seem way off and boring. I hated Jesse instantly and Dina is such a dry and uninteresting person. And Tommy seems so off and the way he acts was so strange to me. Ellie is no longer a witty and impulsive girl that made you laugh and happy. She is now a stone-cold killer with little to no emotion. The revenge plot is just so stupid and I never thought it would pay off. Which it didn't. I hated every second that I had to play as Abby, and since you play her for nearly half the game, I lost my mind. I have absolutely no sympathy for her and what her past was. She is uninteresting and her character depth is dog **** The game is so brutal and violent it made me sick. The way every person is treated and how they all suffer in some way just hurts me. Joel dies, Jesse dies, Tommy gets shot in the head and loses an eye, Dina abandons Ellie, and Ellie ends the game alone, fingerless, and sad. This brings me to the ending which I could barely get myself too. My mental state was that bad. So, why does Ellie spare Abby? You spend the entire game hunting her down and you kill hundreds of people to get to Abby. The moral of the story is that killing is bad and the cycle of revenge, so basically the game is telling me that killing Abby would get me nowhere. But this is stupid because the story tells me that you need to kill everyone in your path to get to Abby and when I get there, the game says no and insert cutscene. At least give the player a choice. I bet 95 percent of all players would absolutely destroy Abby in the worst way possible. Why am I told to kill for the first 25 hours but not the final resolution? It feels cheap and left such a bad taste in my mouth, I couldn't even break a smile. In fact, the only time I did smile was during the flashbacks with Joel and Ellie. It shows what the game could have been without all the hate and sadness. And the scenes like Owen and Abby in the aquarium I just thought about how this scene could have been good if replaced by Joel and Ellie. The game ending with Ellie unable to play guitar and all alone just crushes me. She didn't deserve any of this. This game is so depressing and intentionally filled with hate. By the end, the game gave me so many negative feelings I can't even explain them. Why would anyone want that in a video game? I cried because the game is so sad and feels like a slap in the face compared to the first game. The game did not need to be like this, I would have loved if it was just the Joel and Ellie flashbacks. I still can't believe this is the end result. I could go more in-depth but I don't want to. I can't express how much it hurts me. Just like Reggie said, "If it's not fun, why bother"? So don't. Don't bother. Expand
