I have only disappointment from a story I tried to hard to enjoy and empathize with. The death of major characters isn't as much as an issue but rather the pacing and build up of the story. The change of perspectives with no real justification other than trying different things. The layers of suffering upon suffering that feel being shoved very early on to the point I got desinsitized. The long stretches of uneventful gameplay. What's not wrong about it?

In a world where subjectivism is acceptable, perfect scores on the extremes are not in this context. Even if one attempts to overlook how the plot is build up, gameplay wise there are long stretches of this game that feel untouched compared to the first title. The puzzles are too simplistic and serve no purpose other than to slow you down.

I tried at least to hold on to gameplay and even in that I was disappointed. For me it gets a 3 based on some sparse thrilling events with great animations and environment but everything else is unfortunately poorly executed. In a game that was designed around linear narrative, it was hard for me not to look at this as a mediocre experience.

Punishing a player for his choices in a linear game after forcing him to do the acts is plain stupid. Is this a video game or a movie that has a mediocre story? Make up your mind Naughty Dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all. ill praise the environmental visuals and the sound of the game. but the game is not worth the 7 years i waited for. TLOU to is the story about Joel and Ellie. so it makes sense to play TLOU 2 as characters Ellie AND Joel that we developed a bond with all throughout, not as a random character that has only been introduced 5 hours into the game. i mean how does N.D. expect us to get involved with the game when we are put into a random character that we have no emotional attachment to. secondly, the plot is not engaging at all, N.D. says the game is not supposed to be fun but more of an engaging story, but the plot is horribly disconnected with most of the fans, we get that the character Abby went to kill Joel for revenge, but the ending was just pure **** Joel gets killed, Ellie's group gets killed, Ellie gets revenge and kills abbey's group who were just willing witnesses to a murder, but in the end Ellie didn't get revenge for Joel by letting abbey scott free. if it was ellie who Abby killed Joel would've stopped at nothing to kill Abby for stealing his daughter figure from him, i expected Ellie would've done the same as it felt like she saw Joel as a Father Figure. Legacy of TLoU is being thrown into trash bin as soon as the game starts, which is something like killing Kratos or Nathan Drake in their game within the first 2 hours. Amazing.

The game is a masterpiece from technical perspective; graphics, audio, animations, mocap... all superbly implemented as expected. However, they forgot one thing, which is what makes TLoU great in the first place. Meaningful characters, bond between them and a good freaking story.

You won't be able to find a good story here, so only thing that makes this a 3 points review is the technical aspects. Whoever worked on the graphics, sound, animations etc. should be proud of themselves. Story otherwise, eh, hope they (Neil Druckmann and Halley Gross) won't get any project in the industry. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay is the same, if not, better than the first one. 1 point for that. The graphics are insane. This is what I expected from a next gen game. Insane how other games this gen have not made use of the full potential of the ps4 pro. However, the story of TLOU2 is horrible and filled with the director’s ideology of what he thinks is right.

The only part of the game that I actually enjoyed was the part where you play through a short memory of Joel and Ellie. A throwback to what made the first game so incredible and the very lack thereof being the main cause for the failure of TLOU2. Not worth the full price, but if you sell the game right after beating it, you’ll end up paying about 10 bucks for an experience you can easily live without.

When you create a game with generic gameplay and generic realistic graphics, all that's left for you to make an impact on your audience is the story, now when you try to oscarbait with that story, and make a generic revenge plot the central theme of said story, and then, on the easiest crowd pleaser to ever exist, flop the ending by destroying your own protagonist and having the villain basically get away scot free.

Well, on that moment my friend you earn a 3 on a game so generic and competent that could have gotten a 7 just on gameplay and visuals alone.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The sad thing about this game is that everything about it could have made for a great story. It had a lot of good elements that I liked but even as someone who didn't even watch or play the first game there's just nothing to make you feel good about this story. You're always taking a risk when you try to tell these kinds of stories and I'm sad to say that it just didn't work out for me and for and probably the majority of other people. At no point were you rooting for both characters to make it out. At some points you're not even rooting for Ellie because she's acting out of her role.

One moment that really takes you out of the story is when play as Abby fighting Ellie. What the **** Naughty Dog. You do realize the dichotomy that this event breaks. You're either for Ellie or against her. You can't be in-between because that's not a satisfying story. It's why those types of stories rarely work.

Frankly, I'm honestly sort of upset seeing the "critic" award at 95. So many people who haven't seen or even heard about the story seem to be swayed by it but trust me, it's sadly nowhere close to a 95/100. Watching the entire play through on twitch you could see how after some key moments in the story everyone just lost interest because it just takes you out of it when nothing good happens. It's not a fun story. Maybe it's story they wanted to tell but that doesn't correlate with what the players wanted out of it. No one likes seeing their favorite characters die a pitiful death. Joel was killed by a golf club to the head while tied down. Honestly, with the way interactions between Joel and Ellie have been I can frankly not say if him dying was a good or a bad thing. It doesn't make sense that his death would be the turning point for Ellie to all of a sudden forgive him. It just doesn't make sense. And at the end of it, what are we left with it. The hero who has now lost all their friends including their child and with only 8 fingers left and what is in our eyes a villain who got to escape without any damage away from clashes between factions and who is now living without most problems with their best friend. Is that really what the players wanted?
No, it's not. Even me who has no care for any of these characters from the previous game. Also, doing one good thing doesn't make you good. Abby is not deserving of nice things. She doesn't value other's having nice things so try convincing us that she is worthy of having nice things. It doesn't work like that.

Yep. Don't buy this game if you're looking for a good story. Everything else is pretty top notch as expected from Naughty Dog. Just don't go into it looking for a satisfying story is all. Sadly, in this case I think a good story is so much more important so therefore I can't really go any higher with the score even if I wanted to. it wouldn't be truthful of me to do so. I look forward to seeing what Naughty Dog comes up with next. I have no doubts that they have the ability to create great stories. This one just isn't that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The only reason this game hasn't gotten a 0 from me is because of the graphics and design and gameplay which gets very repetitive (which is almost exactly similar to the first one). The plot ruins the entire game. Tbh, I knew that there was a high possibility Joel is gonna die. But the writers literally fecked his entire character to kill him in the most improbable way which is what ruined this for me. Don't think the ppl upset with this are just upset because a beloved char died. Most ppl aren't upset with the RDR series which have killed off loved chars as well. Joel in TLoU : "He ain't even hurt"
Joel in TLoU 2 : Saves a person from zombies while running *away* from said zombies and goes to their base and says "I'm Joel, we live nearby" to a group of heavily armed strangers.

They just changed his entire personality so that he could be killed at the start of the game for "shock factor".

Not to mention the fact that this is a revenge story without any revenge. Ellie kills dozens if not hundreds of ppl to get to Abby and then spares Abby because ReVeNgE iS bAd. Basically a bs move to force bs philosophy down the players' throat. Don't even get me started on the fact that Neil inserted himself as a character in the game. And his character spit on Joel's dead body. Not only that, he had the most disgusting sex scene with Abby.

Also, ND's backhanded schemes of misleading advertisements and their overall response has been pretty telling why this game was so disconnected from the fans. TL,DR: This game completely ruined the characters and character arcs from the previous game. Its a revenge story with no revenge. Its the equivalent of Game of Thrones S8. The creators don't seem to know the difference between "realistic" and just straight up torture/misery porn.

One of the worst endings I ever experienced in a videogame. Graphic 9/10 and the 7/10 gameplay is the only thing holding this game together. Story 0/10

Characters decisions frequently making no sense and gratuitous violence. That is what makes the storyline pretty immature to me. Honestly the only reason I got to the end of this game was because of how good the first one was. I just needed to get closure. Gameplay was dull and repetitive. Graphics and sound is just what you would expect from a game with that budget.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a long-time fan of the TLOU franchise, I was absolutely devastated by this game and how fans were treated by critics.

First of all, I have to praise it for the technical aspects of game. The gameplay and the graphics were amazing. I witnessed stunning displays of advanced graphics, smooth controls (except the poor jump control), great story transitions, and expanded capabilities of what a user can do in the game. Those were fantastic.

BUT... what made the original TLOU a perfect game was the combination of gameplay, graphics, and fantastic storytelling. This game severely lacked the latter.

The poor treatment of Joel was downright insane. I understand that killing off a main character to push the story to a new level may be necessary, but to turn him into an unsuspecting, gullible man in a world that is out to get the person who ruined the Fireflies was a poor choice of narrative. ND and critics are bashing the fans for not accepting the killing of Joel, but what can you possibly expect from us when you made us love and understand a character who’ve experienced a loss of his daughter, who was untrusting of anyone, and battled against a flawed faction to save someone he grew to love and trust? ND made us empathize with him and understand his actions. Now you decide to kill him off in the most unclimactic manner possible?

The introduction to Abby and the long hours of gameplay with her was terrible. The game made us play with an unknown character within the first hour and make her (or him) brutally beat the main character to death. Then later we are forced to play as her for who knows what hours. Seemed like infinity. The game goes onto make us see from Abby’s perspective. What for??

If ND wanted to teach us about the cycle of hate and vengeance, it would’ve been better if ND built up a story where the users could see the initial effects of losing her father and how severely that has impacted throughout life. All we get is a nobody killing off our loved character and forced to understand her perspective.

And do I have to talk about the messed up romance scene? No, I don’t think I will.

The brutality. Oh boy, where do I begin. For a game that wanted to promote understanding and empathy, ND sure did a great job letting us killing enemies in the most brutal form possible. Did we really need to witness a piece of brain sticking onto a golf club? Or a pregnant woman dying?
Some critics are now generalizing the mass of negative reviewers as immature bigots who are (1) Refusing to see past the brutal treatment of Joel and (2) are antagonistic toward the SJW agenda and the trans community. What they do not realize, is that if those biases were true, the Naughty Dog fanbase would have criticized games like the TLOU: Left Behind and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. There are plenty of games that present different sexual orientations and ideals, but you don’t see a mass of people rallying to give poor reviews.

Gamers are just as well rational and understanding as the prominent critics. We are not some close-minded “bigots” who refuse to empathize with progressive thinking. If you are seeing a massive pushback from the general population, maybe it’s worth looking at the problem rather than going against the gamers. Remember Naughty Dog, WE WANTED TO LOVE THE SECOND GAME JUST AS WE DID FOR THE FIRST ONE.

If the general fanbase is the problem, just look at all the prominent game streamers. Were their reception so welcoming?

Game critics are denying the fact that they were paid or given incentives to give glowing reviews on the TLOU 2. However, what they don’t tell you is that they are consciously (or unconsciously) obligated to protect their brand and the relationship with Naughty Dog. Given that the first TLOU received such glowing reviews, they’re put into a position where they cannot give lower scores in fear of being outcasted from other reviewers. All these critics simply played it safe. Imagine a scenario where you were a senior writer in a prominent game review platform and were given the copy of the game a week before the actual release. Naughty Dog, a major game company, asks you to review it (but with major restrictions on discussing about the game) and you know that the first TLOU received glowing reviews from other major critics and has a massive fanbase. Would you really be able to give negative reviews on it? Giving a negative review will (1) Draw major backlash from the fanbase who won’t be able to play for another week and (2) Make their brand look base in a sea of positive reviews from other prominent reviewers. Just look at what happened to the YouTube channel SkillUp. Some fans and critics bashed the poor guy for leaving a bad review.

If you want to play for an upgraded TLOU gameplay and graphics, please go ahead. It’s really an awesome game.

If you want to play for the story, I recommend saving that money and play something else.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm just gonna be straight up honest here. I played the first TLOU several times through and loved everything about it. The seven year wait until TLOU2 was tough, but I had such high hopes for it after the all the love that was put into the first.

I got the game on release and finished it a few hours ago. I have to admit, I did find it incredibly hard to carry on playing after a very questionable and unexpected death of the beloved character, Joel. This isn't the main reason why I can't bring myself to give this game a positive review, but it did suck to see a character that you grew to like and had such big expectations for his and Ellie's paths in TLOU2 get taken out in such a...pointless way. It honestly felt that all the things they went through in the first was just tossed out the window.

I found myself being unable to feel anything for the new characters that were introduced. The new antagonist brought in I felt was just extremely bland and unoriginal. I feel revenge plots are just so overused these days and bring nothing unique to games. However, I did push on as I wanted to experience the whole game and see how it all ended.

When I reached the ending I have to admit that I was glad it was over. Having Ellie go through the entire game killing multiple people in order to get her revenge for the death of the man who had protected her and loved her as his own daughter, only to allow the character who killed him to go free. This just adds to the pointless killings that she had done throughout the game leading up to this moment. I get that they wanted Ellie to realise that her killing Abby would just make her the same as her, but it's the fact she killed so many people to get to Abby, only to let her live.

The storyline just ruined the entire game for me. Very badly written and dull. Revenge plots are just extremely unfun to play after you've seen it done before.

    The positives from this game:

    - Incredibly beautiful graphics. Hard to believe it's on the PS4 at times. Amazing job by the designers.

    - Voice acting on point as always! They get the emotions through very well.

    - Environment. Great settings and very well made for certain scenes.

    - Soundtrack is always a pleasure to listen to.

Reason for my score is sadly because, for me, the negatives outweigh the positives too much. I hope they learn from this feedback and can understand that I'm not leaving a bad review just for the sake of it. It does make me sad to be leaving a score this low, but my hopes were crushed.

Now for the bad, the character development is sorely lacking compared to the first game and many of the characters lack continuity in their behaviors and actions, there are numerous plot holes and some questionable story telling in terms of jumping from present to flashbacks in a somewhat scattered manner. Had this been a stand alone title it probably would have been better but because it’s a part of something that was so well done it’s not something I can recommend because it leaves the series worse than it found it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wasn't planning on writing a review for this game but 10/10 reviews are so dishonest that I had to write one.
This game is not as awful as many people say but that's only due to the action scenes, the story is absolute crap and they basically took a huge dump on the first one (which I loved).
Firstly, what's good in the game?
    - Action scenes: They are numerous and awesome (most of them are at least, I am not a big fan of the infected scenes)
    - Attention to detail: This is obvious, they really did pay a lot of attention to the details, love the guns, love the bows, love how the glass cracks when you step on it...etc.
    - Songs/Music: The guitar stuff is awesome, I liked playing the guitar in the game
    So what's wrong with it?
    - Characters: Ellie is an awesome character and so is Joel but that's not because of this game but the previous one. The other characters are trash, I am sorry to say. Ellie's gf is a non-character, I'm not sure what Ellie likes about her. She's not funny, not interesting, not cool. Almost the same goes for Jesse. However, the worst is Abby. Why am I forced to play almost half the game as Abby when my first encounter with her is when Joel and Tommy save her and she kills Joel. I don't really care about him being killed, it's a part of stories, the mentor character usually dies to give the chance for the mentored the chance to grow and deal with stuff alone, that's fine. I did not feel any connection to Abby at all, the gameplay was exciting but that's it, I kinda wanted her to die all along. I get the story, I get that Joel killed her father but and that this was a revenge mission for her but why force the player to play with her without giving enough playtime where the player can connect to the character? All the other characters are absolute trash and not even worth the time to write about them.
    - Conversations: Sometimes they seem to be forced, they really tried to make them sound "genuine" but in some places they just fail: the Sherlock joke, the craving it part stand out to me as too forced.
Overall: Don't buy it now, only when it's cheaper. The gameplay is fun but the story is trash, definitely not one of the greatest ever.

Throughout many sections of the game I found myself audibly groaning at the obvious attempts to make some sort of forced political statement, if I cannot get a refund for this game I am going to be deeply dissapointed but I do not expect I will be able to get one. The story is laughably weak and given that that was the focus of the original it simply cannot live up to that. After all of this I'm going to say that I consider The Last Of Us 2 to be non-canon and I think that Neil Druckmann has to work with adult supervision or else he will butcher another beloved Naughty Dog IP.

But there was a universe of possibilities for this sequel in between the polar extremes of "derivative fan-service" and "abject misery that tears apart everything everyone loved about the first game." Naughty Dog were so aggressively hellbent on avoiding the former extreme that they went charging head-first into the latter. Honestly, it feels like they were so determined to subvert expectations that it actually deranged them and their decision-making.

This game is so bleak and nihilistic it almost becomes comedic. I don't think a single good thing happens to a single character in the entire game that isn't completely undone or reversed by the end of it. The first game had tragedy, but the darkness was there to challenge and ultimately accentuate the lightness — it wasn't just darkness for the sake of darkness. The first game also had heart, and plenty of it. Where is the heart in this sadistic carnival of misery?

The original Last of Us is genuinely my favorite game of all time. This sequel goes to such extreme lengths to tear apart everything I loved about the original that it frankly feels spiteful and vindictive. How professional critics could give this 10/10's is just mind boggling to me. I think some people mistake misery for high-art, as though that's the only necessary ingredient. As though a work of art making you want to claw your eyes out and then jump out a window must mean that it's really "brave" and "deep". This game is not deep — it's a superficial, indulgent and conceited slog.

Beloved characters don't even act like themselves. Somehow, 14 year-old Ellie from the previous game is significantly more emotionally mature, wise, perceptive and empathetic than the 19 year-old version we're introduced to. How does that make any sense whatsoever?

All the beautiful nuance and ambiguity of the original game's ending is retconned into preachy, black-and-white moralising. My worst case scenario for this sequel was that it would not only fail to live up to its full potential (and there was so much potential), but that it would actually sully and undermine the legacy of the first game. And it absolutely has. I say it with no joy, but I now genuinely wish there had never been a sequel at all, and that TLOU had definitively ended once and for all with that fantastically executed conversation between Joel and Ellie at the end of the first game. This sequel is such a staggeringly huge mistake, and it can never be erased or undone.

I'm giving this 3 stars for the graphics, sound and music alone. I understand how much work must have gone into that side of the game. But TLOU is a story-driven game, so story is king. Everything else is just peripheral to me and, frankly, something I would expect from a massive Sony game with an eye-watering budget. I'd honestly rather play a 2D pixel-art game with good writing and storytelling. So 3/10 is the most generous score I can muster.

I prefer the first one. The game is fun in someway but i didint like to play it. Maybe they try to more focus on PC and then can do better games. There is a big problem in this game and its a big hype balloon. Its nice to see that exploded! You can play for the story and nice story telling but thats all u can get.

Killed one of the 2 main characters of the game in the first hour or so of gameplay. Wasted a game worth of character development just to subvert expectations. Spent the whole game chasing Joel's killer to get revenge only to fight her, be seconds away from killing her, but decide to let her live, because again, people wouldn't expect that. Enough said.

Its honestly weird, some of the stuff in this game doesn't seem new at all. Quite frankly, they all seem like rehashes of the first game and the characters they do add seem uninspired, generic, and just plain boring. To add to this, the spoilers are absolutely garbage and the only reason why I'm not giving a lower score is because of the good graphics.

Even if you like all that sjw crap than there still no chance that this game is above 7/10. The way Joel was killed was absolutely disrespectful to all people waiting for this **** all these years. There is even a character that looks like neil druckmann in this game and his first appearance in the game is literally spitting at joels corpse. The Story is so **** up that most people i know who got this don't want to play anymore after maybe being 8- 10 hours into it. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me start off by saying, I support the LGBTQ community, I'm a part of it as well. I don't have a problem with Abby being buff, I don't have a problem with trans people.. I don't have a problem with Joel dying, BUT.. but the story was so poorly executed.. Here are the positives and the negatives of the game:

    POSITIVE:

    - Sound
    - Visuals
    - Voice acting
    - Gameplay
    - Fighting /shooting mechanics
    - accessibility settings for visually impaired people

    NEGATIVES:

    - False advertising, making the buyers think that Joel and Ellie are going to team up. - Not issuing refunds, like wtf??? - Deleting negative reviews, paying off media to preach the game.. - Ellie's immunity didn't mean **** in part II. They missed the opportunity to create a story around that.
    - So much **** was going on around the fireflies and they were just "simply" wiped out in 4 years.

    - Joel's, Tommy's character build up from the first game meant NOTHING next to a 3 second screentime surgeon and 10minute background on Abby.

    - Killing Joel off 2 hours into the game in such a disrespectful way, by a playable character.. By a character that only got a 10 minute backstory and the game was basically forcing you to feel sorry for her.

    - Making Tommy and Joel look like they trust people easily in an apocalyptic environment, where killing is surviving.

    - Making Abby, a playable character and forcing us to play against Ellie. (makes no sense at all), the players would have swallowed Abby as a character if she were to team up with Ellie and fight against a mutual enemy (without killing Joel lol)

    - Even after everything, Ellie loses her fingers, JJ and Dina + leaves Abby alive but kills a pregnant woman. Umm?

    - A very graphic sex scene of Abby.. Awkward, should have made a sex scene with ellie and dina lol.. - Overall story.

They could have made the story so much better.. They could have dropped the cure thingy in the story, maybe a war with the fireflies or the cannibals.. Maybe something about Ellie's backstory (family), Abby joining the town and fighting against a mutual enemy, a little bromance between abby dina and ellie if you want to push LGBTQ so badly.. Joel getting bitten and they are rushing to find fireflies and a cure.. Maybe realizing that there are other people outside their town where they already found the cure and are living normally, so Joel + Ellie are going on an adventure like the old times, Abby comes into the story, helps them..little drama around her father etc etc, ANYTHING could have been better.. It's just poor writing and execution.. The game looks fantastic, amazing visuals, amazing voice acting, i love the new creatures, the snowing details, the dogs, etc! BUT unfortunately, this game is a STORY BASED game, most people play it for the story not the gameplay, and it disappointed us all..

Gameplay is smooth, i really dont mind it. But killing off one of the main characters is just a downfall to everything. At a point in the game, I just quit because the character you are forced to play, you don't care for and have any interest. Therefore, the game is unplayable. The ending is probably the most lazy ending to a "revenge plot" from my knowledge. The motivations of the characters aren't present and by the end you feel like this entire game was pointless and doesn't need to exist. The Last of Us Part 2 tries to do new things however, there is too many characters for Neil or any other writers to make them interesting or cared for if they die or not. Better luck next time. A game like this is all about the story, and this story is incredibly disjointed and droll. There's a twist very early in the game that had no business existing, and by the time I finally turned it off at about 10 hours into the game, it felt like I had just paid 60 dollars to listen to be preached at by a George Floyd rioter. It feels like this story was written by somebody from an AI on another planet that had aggregated all the movies of the last 25 years and then attempted to write a script based off of it without ever actually experiencing life. I don't know, I can't quite put my finger on it, but between the plotline that seems designed to try and make you feel like a bad person, the identity politics that serves to remind you you can't even escape them in entertainment in 2020, and the poor mechanical aspects, and the absolutely crazy story line, all I felt was bad about myself for wasting 60 dollars. The graphics are gorgeous, the facial expressions are the best I've seen on PS4, but the story is childish and silly, and the game as a whole is pretty boring. The gameplay has barely changed since the first game and the AI is pretty bad. The way the characters from the first game are treated is plain insulting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm going to get the incredible characteristics of this game out of the way.
There is no doubt in my mind that this may be the most stunning video game I have ever played.

    - The graphics are out of this world,
    - The audio design is complex and atmospheric
    - The voice acting was phenomenally done by a group of incredibly talented actors.
    - The environment has an engrossing allure to it that makes made me feel like I was truly there.

However, there are a few fascinatingly apparent flaws that I will not get out of the way: storytelling and character development.

In a game franchise such as The Last Of Us, the graphics and audio design is hardly anything compared to the impact the story has on the player. There are far too many shallow characters, plot holes, timeline shifts, and unnecessary plot points for this game to exceed the gaming industry with the same success shown by the first game. Not to mention the horrific choice made for Ellie in the ending. Here are a few notable mentions:

Con #1) Why does Ellie's anger show no recollection or representation as seen in The Last Of Us 1? When Ellie was faced with situations in which she needed to defend Joel, she killed everybody in the way. No questions asked. But in this game, when Ellie finally has her chance to avenge him, how the hell did Naughty Dog decide that Ellie no longer had a hatred towards Abby after she receives a flashback of Joel's brutally bloodied head? Because Ellie felt for Abby? Because she thought if she killed Abby she would be doing Joel wrong? Did we forget this game was about Ellie's revenge? All of Abby's friends were murdered, she killed Ellie's friends with no hesitation. All of Ellie's friends were murdered, yet she doesn't feel the need for revenge, the entire point of this plot. Now some may argue that this is an act of Ellie maturing and understanding the consequences of her actions. To me, that is a load of BS. Ellie has made many choices in this game that stray so far from her as a character that it almost feels like a different person.

    - Con #2) Abby, alongside many of the new characters in this game, have absolutely NO depth in any way. The only characters I really felt for were the ones shown in the previous game, I wonder why that is. Naughty Dog tried unbearably hard to introduce "the other side of the story" to show that Joel had it coming for him. Was that "other side of the story" even remarkably moving or reasonable? Absolutely. Not. Why were we given so much time with Abby to understand who she is and her relationship with her friends and father yet not a single hour of it was enjoyable or justifiable? There were 100% zero sympathies I felt towards this girl. So not unless you give me a Last Of Us Part II dedicated to why we should care about this Abby girl or why her story even remotely convinces me that killing Joel in the way she did was okay, I'm going to say this is a case of a disastrous narrative and Abby is garbage excuse for an antagonist/main character.

Con #3) I'm not even going to explain how horrendous the writing is in some of these side-characters. The number of plot holes that are accompanying them makes me want to throw up just as many times as Dina did. I will say that the story seems engaging when you are playing through Ellie's POV and there aren't any cutscenes to ruin it...
The fact that I need to say that the best part of the game was playing through the museum flashback two years prior to the events of the main plotline with Ellie and Joel shows just how unenjoyable the game really was for me.

Naughty Dog put so much effort into trying to show us that we were the true bad guys yet non of that effort had a single ounce of pay off. If you want us to fall in love with your new characters the same way we fell in love with the original ones, give us more time, please. Give us the depth and development that Joel and Ellie and Tommy have. One of the main reasons Abby even exists was that she was a perfect way to introduce the idea of gender fluidity, LGBTQ+, and independent femininity into a video game. But it just wasn't necessary. All-in-all my main gripe about this game is that some of the best writers in video game history have somehow messed up what was 7 years of anticipation and hype for one of the worst stories I have ever experienced.

I will be giving this game a 3/10 sheerly out of pity for the incredible artists, sound designers, animators, and voice actors who put so much work in to hard carry the writers that developed this tragedy.
So how can I put this lightly? If you have the money to purchase this game, put that money into something else, and walk away. And to those who have already played the game or have watched a playthrough, I am so sorry. You and I are gonna take a deep breath and pretend this didn't happen. Deal? Deal.
