This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Woke culture & Gender identity has penetrated the gaming world.
Part 1 was a success & well writeen but a big fail for Part 2 which was highly anticipated.
Gameplay still very good as previously but story is very poorly written, I understand that some teenagers might speak with a swear word here & there but this is non-stop, I'm not offended in the least but just didn't expect such a basic uneducated poorly written dialogue, it feels like this was written by a 16 year old even though most speak better then Ellie with less f*ck words.
Then comes killing off Joel at an early start within the story when he is the father figure for the lead character & introducing some bizarre uninteresting characters.
Creativity in this game got very poor within the story & lack of engaging dialogue & goals.
And we have then identity politics being played in this game, I don't have a problem with the character being gay, but what I have a problem is the physical alteration of Ellie to become more man-ish, lack of build up story in regards to her sex orientation & introducing a new character called Abby which looks like a Transsexual (which again got no problem) but the game wasn't about sex & their orientation (any sex scenes from TLOU part 1??) & was about the 2 characters Ellie & Joel.
Also most of the side story is all in dozens of little write up notes found along the game, way too many in fact & very repetitive.
So in summary, gameplay still very good & deeply enjoyable but when it comes to dialogue I instantly feel the need to skip ahead (even though I didn't).
Very poor attempt at Part 2 & destroying the franchise.

To call us disingenuous or untruthful tells us that they don’t care about our opinion/rating if it doesn’t align with the money generating scheme that is currently set up. You can see this with your own eyes - I don’t need to tell you. Just look at the difference between PAID shill reviews who are on board with the SJW/diversity/gender politics band wagon and reviews from people who are honest and UNPAID who work their asses off every day to be able to buy the things we enjoy. We don’t work all day to fight to get to the weekend only to crack open a game that goes south within the first hours of the game - and continuously goes south right to the end.

Yeah, that’s great - all the shill reviews are going on and on about graphics, and lighting and “mood” and they’re not even being truthful about story and characters. They just want you to keep your head down, eat up the story slop and move on to the next BAD GAME like a mindless drone. They got their money from you, they could care less about anything else after they robbed you of what could have been a well oiled story with amazing characters. I will close by saying I will NEVER buy a naughty dog game again, ever. Thanks for the slap in the face. I hope this disaster sinks the stock of your company and buries you. You deserve it. How’s that for a fake review?

PS. The only review bombing on this game are people LITERALLY saying “I don’t like all the negative talk around this game so I’m going to give it a 100 even though I haven’t played it”. You are the worst kind of people, your “review bombing” has already moved this terrible game UP a few points. I hope you’re happy knowing you are a part of the problem.

    Ósea,MATÓ a Joel!

No. Ella deja ir a Abby.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Imagine if Jack Marston tracks down Edgar Ross and instead of shooting him, he lets him go. That is the ending to this

Other than the **** ending, the gameplay is quite fun. The Seraphites actually had me on my toes due to how they communicate, Shamblers are a fun enemy to fight, the Stalkers are actually pretty scary, and overall the enemies in this just feel better.

The story starts off pretty strong, and you think to yourself “okay maybe this isn’t as bad as everyone says it is” and then Joel dies, and you see why everyone says the story is **** Along with that, the game has bad pacing issues in the beginning after Joel’s death. After Joel dies, absolutely NOTHING interesting happens for a good 2 **** hours. I was literally so **** bored for those 2 hours because all you do is just wander around Downtown Seattle with your horse finding some **** fuel for a generator. While most of the story is dog****, there are some high moments. The best moments are Ellie’s flashbacks with Joel, that is where it really feels just as amazing as the first one. Problem is, all those moments are spaced out between **** story moments.

Most of the characters we know do some pretty stupid **** in this game. Like Tommy after talking with Ellie about the people responsible for Joel, he does a total 180 the next day and says “lock up Ellie if you have to, don’t let her come for me” not much is known about Tommy compared to Joel, but I am pretty **** sure that Tommy would instead go to Ellie’s house the next day ready and say **** this lets get these bastards”
How **** cool would it be to have Tommy there with you, and he could act as a sort of voice of reason with Ellie once enough of the WLF are dead. She already has Dina to be her voice of reason, but it would be interesting to see Tommy just as bloodthirsty as Ellie and then say “they got what they deserved, we’re done here now and I’m fine with that” and Ellie refusing to let Abby get away with it. THAT would be interesting to see

Now for Abby: I can see what they were going for, to make you say “she was wronged so she set out to resolve it” but it just does not work at all. It may work if there was more time spent with Abby before she kills Joel, like taking Abbys flashback with her dad and make that the beginning, that could make it a bit better. But in the game now, its just “oh this random ass person killed one of my favorite characters” and by the time it showed Abbys dad, it was already too far in the game for me to even give a **** Besides killing Joel, Abby is a pretty decent character. But I still did not give a single **** about any of her story parts because she is just introduced with killing Joel, which pissed me off immensely.

As for the trans person, I’m fine with representation, but his entire character is “I’m trans and everybody wants to kill me because I’m trans” that is so **** lazy and I was extremely shocked how poorly that character was written

I can’t recommend this game unless you are fully capable of turning your brain off and just enjoy the gameplay and visuals. Naughty Dog dropped a nuke on Nagasaki, and somebody needs to rewrite this because this story is unacceptable. Keep all the Ellie flashbacks and Abbys dad flashback, that was the only good Abby part. Make the trans person more than “I’m trans and everyone wants to kill me because I’m trans” take out the Abby gameplay segments, fix the pacing in the beginning of the game, and make the characters make rational decisions

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So disappointed in the choices made by the developers. I loved the first game and have spent so long waiting for this to come along. The graphics were beautiful, the gameplay took everything I loved about the original and tweaked it, but the narrative decisions were heartbreaking in the worst way. It felt like watching the final season of Game of Thrones again. Someone who loved the original game as much as I do must have raised their voice during the development process to tell them they were going down a path that their loyal fans most likely wouldn't want to go.

Much has been made of the diversity of the game, and Liberal political subtext. Despite some mediums diversifying to the point of being unrealistic, in this case it didn't really bother me. What bothered me most is that the makers thought they could somehow enlighten the player on the issues of violence and prejudice when most people have come back to escape and be absorbed into a story that can be an emotional roller-coaster, but not one you want to get off of.

The hardest thing to accept was Joels' relationship with Ellie after what they had been through, his relegation to a background character who makes evidently very poor decisions for a man so worldly wise, and his horrific death at the hands of a small group of people after having despatched hundreds of different enemies during the previous game. Joel is actually spat on while dying in a pool of blood, Ellie crying and pleading for his life - why would you do this to your fans who've waited so long to be reunited with these characters, and why later on make us play again as the killer only to have Ellie let her live after spending the whole game seeking revenge?

It brought back thoughts of the Walking Dead/Negan story arc and we all know what that did for that show......

Naughty Dog, I think it was a conceited mistake to assume this game would be accepted based on the amount of work put in, how technically good it is and how greatly anticipated it was - the narrative didn't further the original story, it threw it away.

I am glad I still have the original to go back to, and genuinely sorry that the sequel storyline ended up as it has....

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll be talking about actual spoilers in the last paragraph. The rest of this review is spoiler free. This review that will be ignoring the so-called SJW/woke/whatever stuff. I know that can be divisive, so I'm leaving that out, and I think there's enough I can talk about without mentioning that.

To start out, they basically pull a GOT finale and give Joel and Ellie the Daenerys treatment by having them do things that are completely against what their characters have been established as. And they not only do it once, but three times, some worse than others.

That's before we even get to the company side of things. If you want to skip the company stuff, skip this paragraph. Normally I wouldn't include this in a review of the game itself, but I think it warrants mention here since many people are protesting the game because of Sony and Naughty Dog's behavior, such as the hostile workplace they've created and the blatant DMCA abuse when it's completely unwarranted. Some people literally only voiced their negative opinions of the game without showing ANY part of the game, and still got DMCA'd, which can take away people's ability to stream which is a huge source of revenue for some, essentially putting some streamers out of business for their opinions, and the fact they allowed a full blown and very revealing sex scene in TLOU2 while heavily censoring anime games (some with the same rating as TLOU2) months earlier for just being skimpy. There's also the blatant false advertising, such as them putting a fake scene in the trailer where Joel says to Ellie "you thought I'd let you go alone?" which doesn't actually happen.

From a gameplay perspective, there's no to little improvements over the first TLOU, so some people think it feels stale. I will be fair and state that TLOU wasn't really known for its gameplay, but rather its atmosphere and story. The only positive it has going for is the graphics. So assuming you review it evenly based on graphics, gameplay, and story, giving each a 33% weight, it makes sense the game is getting 3's and 4's out of 10. If you weight the story itself more heavily, it still comes out about the same. It's a visually stunningly beautiful game... But that's about it.

Spoiler section: The three instances of them pulling a GOT finale are these: Joel walking into a house and randomly announcing who he is, Ellie suddenly deciding to stop her quest for vengeance at the end, and Joel being the catalyst for her stopping. Most people who review this are so outraged by Joel's death that they fail to notice that they spit on his character more than once. Joel is merciless, mistrustful of others and outright says he would kill all the fireflies in the hospital all over again. He doesn't care who dies or who he kills. As such, it makes NO sense for him to walk into a room and announce who he is. It makes NO sense for Ellie to stop her quest of revenge, and it makes NO sense for the flashback of Joel to be what stops her since we damn well know he would have killed Abby without a second thought. And why the hell would you decide vengeance is bad only when reaching your final target and not stopping when you had to kill dozens of people OUT OF VENGEANCE to reach your target? And about Joel's death, I know in reality people often die unceremoniously, and their deaths are often underwhelming. Neil Druckmann outright said this game isn't supposed to be fun. But this is a video game. Video games are within the category of entertainment, a prerequisite of which is fun. So why would you make a game that isn't fun? Joel is a beloved character by the fans and he simply deserved better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was excited for Last of Us 2 since its announcement as i enjoyed the first one greatly. I played this game and i have never been let down so much in my life. This is all because of the poorly written story. All of the deaths felt rushed or dry and the ending of game had no pay off and just made you felt bad because you played the game.

Abby had potential to be a good character but forcing you to play her after you just watched her kill a favourite character is awful. You get zero interaction between Joel and Ellie in the actual game as he is dead within the first hour of the game.

The best scene in the game is actually a flashback that involves no combat or story progression with showing Ellie receiving a birthday gift of a tour of a dinosaur / space museum from Joel. This scene is what LOU2 should've been but it was tainted by poor writing and character deaths.

The game makes you feel bad by making you hunt down and kill the people who killed Joel and then make you play as Abby to showcase the pain you've caused. But this doesn't matter as they don't bring these characters up ever again. Manny was one of Abby's best friends and he gets sniped by Tommy and killed, he is never mentioned ever again by Abby. It also pulls this pregnancy card by making you feel bad because you killed a pregnant girl, even though she resisted when you asked her to point on a map and attacked you.

Jesse was a fun character who cracked multiple jokes at all times with a bright personality and was a good adition to the cast, but was wasted drastically as he had like 6 scenes in the game and is killed off because he ran through a door and shot dead instantly. He is then forgotten like he never existed and only ever mentioned once again after him dying like 40% through the story on a **** piece of paper which is just focused on Dina.

Dina was a good character which also was ruined by being placed in the back. She comes with you to hunt down Abby but mentions she is pregnant and is told to stay still in the Theatre and uses a radio to track down Abby via her friends. It makes sense to stay put but just sleeps after that and gets no screen time until later on where She and Ellie in a generic "Happy Ever After" scene where they get their own farmland and house with a great view away from all of the evils and society. But she just ditches Ellie when she goes back to hunt down and finish abby.

Then Issac the leader of the Wolfs just dies, accomplishing nothing to the story other than to make it understandable how the Wolfs lost the attack to the scars because they had no leader. The two scars where okay characters but where ruined by little screen time they show up late into the story and get a good story arc by saving abby from other scars, then its ruined by the child scar getting upset and running back home to his mom, despite running away from him cause he mom tried to kill him.

The last scenes shows another group which uses others as slaves by pretending to be Fireflies. Abby and Lev are caught and forced into slavery for 2 months. Ellie hunts them down to this area and attacks the compound to hunt down and kill Abby. She finds her but she is very skinny and basically on the brink of death to make you feel bad for Abby and then they fight each other with Abby restraining from fighting but being forced to by Ellie. Ellie then wins the fight and is about to kill Abby and decides not to because Revenge is bad, then lets her go and loses two fingers in the fight and heads back home to find Dina has left her and She can't play guitar anymore.

The combat was ok. It was good but certain set pieces are poorly balanced on the Hardest Difficulty. Such as the area where you must wait for Lev took rescues from a horde which attacks in you in a locked room before they bust down a ambulance window. If you are low on supplies this room gives you little to none to survive which makes it impossible and can be a soft-lock. Later combat sections are just large open fields with large amount of patrolling enemies which drop the FPS drastically and force you to kill to proceed but on the Hardest Difficulty this is frustrating because you can't aim precisely against large groups of enemies with a PS4 controller.

To put this shortly. This game feels like everybody worked their butt off to produce an amazing game but they were forced to follow bad directions from poor story telling by N. Druckman. This game does everything but the story really well and since this game is all about the emotional story which was what made the LOU1 a masterpiece. It kills the game and makes it a chore to play with no pay off.

The biggest flaw of the this game definitely comes from the unconvincing storylines. NaughtyDog did a bad job piecing the new stories of WLF, Seraphites, and Rattlers together. It's hard to make players to feel any deep connection between these group, and It makes the whole stories lose its focus on the story of extended survival life for Elle and Joel. Abby is an interesting character brought into the game. Parts of her stories are realistic, but there are many parts that are totally poor designed and poorly shape the character. For example, Joel's dead comes too early in the game, and Abby's stories are not properly elaborated later. Consequently, it makes the entire game very unconvincing.
The fact that the 7 years of development period does not bring too much of improvement on the game can be acceptable as long as the storylines are appealing and more realistic.
Overall, there are still part of the game that are decently done, character's development, life conflicts, soundtracks. Still, NaughtyDog team did not put enough heart to carefully develop the game in a more realistic story. NaughtyDog underestimate game players' understanding of the real life situations. True, It's just an imaginary world still, but it can simply be done better.
I am still looking forward for Last of Us Part 3 , hoping NaughtyDog do a better job on the next one.
    Don't make the game become a one-hit-wonder.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everything Naughty Dog built up in the first game was thrown away in the 2nd. Joel dies at the beginning without us even playing as him once. Missed opportunity but I got over it. We play as a character we have no emotional attachment to as well nor care for. The revenge story begins...I can deal with it. We then get what felt like a symbol female empowerment with the lesbian scenes and muscular female character. I can deal with it. We then are reminded of what Tommy is doing for revenge yet never get the opportunity to play as him. Another missed opportunity. Dina announces she's pregnant. How does this affect the story? Why even add this part? Nonetheless, the first half of the game was bearable. The 2nd half of the game is a different story. We are forced to again play as the character we do not care for. There is nothing the developers can do for us to sympathize for Abbie yet they force her story on us anyways. Jessie dies in an instant. Why even have scenes of him if he goes out like that? The least the writers could have done was instead of being fatally shot, have him hurt enough to fall to the ground and tell Ellie to tell Dina that he's sorry he can't be there for Dina since he knew she was pregnant before Abbie finishing him off with a gun to the head. But no, he is taken out with a snap of a finger. Tommy goes out the same way presumably. Again, we are forced to play the character for most of the game we do not care nor are emotionally invested it. After wasted hours playing as her, still do not care. It was during this point I just wanted to stop playing this garbage. She lets Ellie live AGAIN. Fast forward, we find out Tommy is alive. That was literally the only positive about the 2nd half of the game but now he's disabled with a missing eyes and a limp resulting in most likely no future in a potential 3rd game (I don't want one after this mess). Do we really want revenge after this? We were put through being forced to play a character I don't care for and lets Ellie live TWICE already. If the developers just had to FORCE the story, give us the option between choosing Abbie's story and Ellie's and I guarantee you, it would be unanimous that players choose Ellie and only choose Abbie because they're curious, not because they care for her character in any way, shape, or form. Awful game and it's generous I'm giving this game a 3 out of 10. Expand

The last of us 2 is so boring and uninteresting, they killed off Joel in the first 2 hours of the game in the worst possible way, instead of given his character a satisfying conclusion like Arthur Morgan. The game has nothing new, the characters sucked including Ellie and the end is one of the worst if not the worst in Gaming.

I don't mind sequels having a different tone or twists and turns, but as I played through the game I honest to god thought that the developers 1) hate their audience and 2) hate their protagonists.

I played through the original Last of Us probably 5 times, it's the only game of the previous generation I did that with (I normally don't even finish games). I can't imagine picking this game up ever again, and honestly I wish i'd never played it. I'm sure this game will sell like gangbusters, but I think if the developers ever try their hand at TLOU3, they'll quickly find how many of their fans they left behind with this entry.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review contains a great deal of spoilers. Read it at your own caution. I will try to not specifically spoil things in particular with particular detail, but I will give a rough outline of the way the story is structured.

My problem with the Last of Us 2 is not in Ellie being a lesbian or Dina being bisexual or in Lev being a transman. I found the area of Seattle with Pride flags to be, well, pretty normal considering it's Seattle. I found the fact that the two women in a lesbian relationship not understanding "what's with all the rainbows" was self-aware, funny, and a moment of levity. The little novel you can find in the bookstore that is lesbian erotic has a description on the back that is self-aware and humorous and makes fun of cliches about college lesbian experiences. These things are done just fine and I don't particularly feel any way about them in particular. Whether or not you care about these things... they're mostly minor. Mostly. Except for one character's backstory, though that character's backstory is never forced down your throat and I feel they could have even been more subtle with it.

My problem is how the game treats revenge, Ellie, Joel, and the player, as well as the order of events.

The game is broken into 4 main sections. The intro, two main halves, and the conclusion. Sort of like an essay, almost. The problem is that something that happens in the introduction involving a major character death has almost zero context and had I gone into the game completely unspoiled, I'd have been outraged at this death. This major character is a survivor. Someone hardened and wizened to the cruelty of the world. This character saves someone from danger and in return, when they reach safety, this major character introduces themselves plainly without any paranoia and with full trust while at the mercy of other people. This major character should not have done this and it is completely out of their character. They are then promptly killed. With the context as to why, it makes sense. But the game does not supply this context until more than halfway through the game.

In Ellie's section of gameplay, we get flashbacks of her growing up with Joel after they've settled in Jackson. Their relationship develops, and in the final flashback from her half of the game, her relationship with Joel becomes incredibly rocky. We do not see how her relationship with Joel stands at the start of the game until we get cutscenes from the night before the start of the game.

The game should begin like so for a more clear and understandable setup. We would see flashbacks for the character who kills a major character to understand their motivation. Then we see Ellie growing up some. Then we alternate between flashbacks for Ellie and the killer so as to understand how they've grown and changed and become who they are. Then we start the game and lead up to the major character death. This would make things so much more understandable on both sides and a lot more straightforward instead of contrived and feeling very retcon-y.

The killer's gameplay sections are interesting much like Ellie's and the relationships that they develop along the way are fine on their own. I found them a bit lacking compared to the dialogue between Ellie and Dina and Jesse, but I also found them more than serviceable and had little issue with that.

This final paragraph contains a LOT of spoilers. You are warned. All I will say now is that the conclusion of the game is unsatisfying and horribly written.

Ellie does not kill Joel's killer. She is about to kill her and spares her. Ellie returns home and Dina has left her and taken her baby with her. Ellie has lost everything. Instead of making this a chance to contemplate whether or not Ellie killing Abby was worth it if it cost her everything, she doesn't get revenge for Joel at all, and Abby escapes off to Catalina Island with no consequences for her actions. Joel had consequences for what he did, I don't deny that. But Ellie was justified in wanting to kill Abby. The game does try to make things morally gray, but it does so very poorly. And I found myself suffering fatigue from the story after a while. It was dragged on for so long. It felt unnecessary in many places. It sheds the best parts of the first game and how its characters interacted and it did so for a revenge story, which can be amazing (Kill Bill, Django Unchained, etc.) but the opportunity was squandered and the game is unsatisfying.

A rogue group of Firefly remnants kidnapping Ellie and Joel trying to save her would have been a better story. Or just even having Ellie kill Abby would have made the game much better, sincerely speaking. I wanted to enjoy this game. I wanted it so badly. But I barely enjoyed anything in it apart from the somewhat improved combat and the beautiful scenery.

I mean yes not all stories have a good ending but this is way too much. I realize that most of the characters were completely irrelevant, most of them were saved and then all killed. I mean the story makes no sense at all. So basically I just run around saving people in this entire game so that I lose all of them or kill some of them I mean what is this? This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Metacritic made it so hard to post this review. It kept crashing and saying error 500 and noticing the high reviews are being legitimately bombed to save this game it's just unreal . There is less bombing and more actual opinion about the game on the negative reviews scores than the overrated ones. I notice how the majority of the reviews for the game being amazing do not point out it's flaws. Whereas the negative reviewers give reasons and also explain why the game is goos. So unfortunately I have lost faith in the gaming industry and seen it's true colours even on metacritic. Regardless here's my review. Joel's character is weaker and his demeanor is smaller and not so interesting. The new character Abby also has little interesting points. In the first game Joel gave us meaning to be interested he lost someone close who was innocent. Ellie also is innocent and being chased and protected which is interesting. In this game Abbie's father was not innocent so no one cares if he dies. They made a clip of him regretting the surgery but it doesn't make you like him. There wasn't any scene that makes you like Abbie in a way you want to help her agenda knowing the first story. And the creators make you play this very lake character for hours. Sex scene was disgusting and unrealistic. Graphics great but I buy a game that is made for the story for the story and the story was over the top violent and sexual in a lesbian or gay way. Which is fine. But way too focussed on it to be enjoyable. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have so many complaints I'm not sure where to start. For about 50% of the game, you are playing as Abby, this character who, I suppose, we are supposed to connect with & feel sorry for — ya know, after she brutally murders Joel. I understand the story was showing us that there are two sides to everything & that what Joel done in the first game also had consequences for others, but his murder comes after he & Tommy are so kind to help out strangers who are lurking in the mountains? Joel may have warmed up to Ellie & eventually softened, but at his core, he was wary of other people & never let his guard down. So for him to end up in the situation that eventually gets him murdered (30 mins into the game) felt hollow. Which makes his death all the harder to deal with. So, we play as Abby, & for the whole game, I only wanted Ellie to finish her off. Her backstory that was overstuffed with parallels to Ellie & Joel's beautiful journey from TLOU felt like the game was forcing nostalgia & sentimentality down my throat to make me, if not like her, at least empathise with her. I didn't. Some parts with Abby as our playable character were fun, I do enjoy stealth missions, but this was also achieved with Ellie as the primary playable character. I heard the game was roughly 25 hours long, so I had huge expectations for the twists & turns this story was set to take, but in actuality it's the same 12 hour story from 2 different perspectives, the second perspective being one I had no interest in learning about until around 18 total hours in. I ended up somewhat curious about how the Seraphites started & who their prophet was. & I never found out. Maybe I missed something, some optional dialogue or some writings, so I can't completely criticise this chunk of plot amounting to basically nothing. Once Yara & Lev entered the story, I could see the direction we were headed in; a similar one we played before with Joel & Ellie. When we set off as Abby & Lev, it was too blindingly obvious that ND were trying instill a similar warmth in us, one that was cultivated through an entire story of learning about the unlikely pair that is Joel & Ellie. Maybe I would've cared more about Abby & her irritating friends if I had spent a whole game learning about them & being a part of a forming bond, but I wasn't. We are thrown into the lives of these people who we have nothing but disdain for after they kill Joel & expected to end up chummy with them after seeing a few thinly written moments about their friendship circle being loyal to a fault. This critique of Abby's story isn't to say I found Ellie's segment of the game completely without fault, however. I think it's amazing that ND managed to write in a bunch of new characters on the "good" side & yet, somehow, make them all so unlikable. Dina & Jesse, yes, you were poorly written. I have a particular pet peeve with plots, & that's making people pregnant for the sake of making a story more interesting. This game does it not once, but twice! Pregnancy is an easy way to add some difficulty to a story set in the middle of a post-apocalyptic world — & that's exactly why it was added. This peeve of mine is a personal preference of course, however I do find it lazy to throw in pregnancy for some shock factor. I can't sit here & say it was all bad. I cried a lot. Plenty of moments had me in tears. The downside to that, though? They were all Joel related. The museum flashback, his death, his conversation with Ellie at the end, that unfiltered, raw emotion that made me fall in love with the first game was back, if only fleetingly, since Joel exists only in Ellie's memory now. Despite loving these few & far between moments we had with Joel, the writing felt odd. I can't exactly place my finger on it. Joel felt very different & a lot of the scenes felt they were trying too hard to remind us of moments from the first game. Ellie & Tommy quickly became my comfort in this game, as I stumbled around with these unfamiliar & unlikable people, I pined for moments with them. Even when you are playing as Abby & you must rush to cover as Tommy fires a sniper rifle at you, I felt happy in the comfort that someone familiar was nearby. TLDR; if you have a massive attachment to the first game, then this game is not for you. I rate it 3/10. A 3 b/c the game truly is beautiful. The scenery & surroundings are astonishing and it is all so carefully crafted to create a beautifully torn world. A 3 b/c I had some moments of fun, Ellie's chapter in the mall was a defining moment for me, I loved everything about it, sadly those moments did not come often. I spent the whole game waiting for that sweet relief at the end, I wanted Ellie to finish Abby off, since that is what the whole story was about. We had faced countless trials, for nothing. Yes, they had both ruined each other's lives & they were "even" but, I still don't care about Abby.

If you love TLOU, don't tarnish the memories you have w/ it. I wish I hadn't

Remembering the first game of the series, I understand why it deserves 9-10. It was a finished work with a clear structure. Last of us 2 destroys everything that we experienced in the first half. At the very beginning of the game, they kill Joel (This was the key character of last of us 1). Ellie, who witnessed this, goes to avenge it. But the game then itself embraces that it had no reason for it. She was made a character who, like a maniac, enjoys the very process of killing. The ending of the game destroyed the hope of the adequacy of the creators of the game. At the very end, in the confrontation between Ellie and Abby, I did not want to do anything, just put the gamepad aside and accept the fate. But the game counted my defeat, that is, ND made a decision for me to beat the character Abby, who fully redeemed the guilt. In terms of gameplay, the plus or minus game remained the same. In the graphic at the level of the previous ND game Uncharted 4. I advise you not to buy this game to anyone. Expand

The plot lines get confusing, and some of the new characters (no names, spoilers!) are a bit clumsily written and it’s hard to get the head around them or their motivations within the story. I really want to like the game, and there’s lots to be positive about. As a stand alone game, I would’ve given it a much higher rating. But compared to its predecessor, it’s pretty lackluster. Expand

The Last of Us though, was something different. It was something that I felt so connected with, something that hit me so deep I can’t every truly describe how much it meant. Ofcourse I was looking forward to the Last of Us 2. My most hyped game by far. What I got was something that broke my heart like the first, but in the worst way. A game can be dark, a game can be depressing. It can mimic the real world and still make something great. The Last of Us 2 took a great foundation, a game that helped in a time where I was so consumed by my own grief, and spat in my face. It spat in the face of so many others who held the solid story of the first so near and dear. TLOU2 is a graphically beautiful game that holds some of the ugliest storytelling I’ve ever seen. I’m not an angry fanboy. I’m a broken girl who was dealing with the grief of losing my father and found solace in the relationship between two other broken people. TLOU2 throws away all that development which is the very thing the first had going for it.

I not against Ellie letting Abby go at the end. Is not the issue with bringing the LGBTQ+ to game either, I am part of this community. The hack is we have heavy emotion and feeling on Ellie/Joel dual. Is okay when main character died in game but the way it delivered and forcing us to play as Abby, is totally mental torture. Over inserting SJW elements also feel disgusted. Feeling sad for the design, music, programming team to bring out such details and realistic environment but underrated. The storytelling hurts many of us.

Visual, graphic and gameplay is a masterpiece that surpasses the first. But where the big mistake is the script, everyone expected Joel's death to be epic and being a hero to the end but instead he dies for a damn golf club, then they try to empathize with his murderer but they don't succeed, since the player only wants revenge and in the end they don't even let us do it.

The storytelling is so lazy and sloppy. The flashbacks were written decent but they were all over the place and seemed to come too late for some of the characters to have any redemption. The scene everyone is upset about was poorly executed, like most of the writing in this game.

I loved the first game, and I am forgetting this one exists.

    10/10 not likely !!!
I brought the last of us off a angry joe review done and simply fell in love with the game ( that I otherwise would have not bothered with ) story graphics an absolute gem...
i have patiently waited for a sequel for quite a few years and was pleasantly surprised when it was announced and have been reading and waiting for the release date ….
Only to be disappointed after spending the 25 hours to complete the game i feel let down and very very disappointed ..
graphically its amazing and game play is entertaining but the story is a disaster for naughty dog to spew out this crap something is wrong with in there company ..
firstly you kill Joel with in the first few hours okay i guess the story has a goal kill the person who did it and all the people involved revenge story i like it ….
so playing as ellie for the first 10 hours or so was great she had a purpose so i had a purpose ..
    BUT
This is where it went to sh.t WTF naught dog you then make me play as this weird woman with arms and a body like a man is she trans does she like the gym to much i have no idea what she is except for the fact i want to kill this thing ( there is also no real explanation to what she is ) so i carried on with the game all the time thinking WHY am i playing this character...
Then to add insult to injury you try make her out to be a good person WTF so stupid!!
Okay so i get to what i think is the end the farm not at all satisfied with the outcome but ohh well then the biggest owen on abby…Ellie goes after her one last time to do nothing but let her go why why why!!!!
This game has no clue on what it was trying to achieve story wise and was left confused and disappointed …
Here ill write the story for naught dog abby kills joel , ellie goes bat **** crazy and takes out each of the people that had something to do with it each giving up through torcher or other means to the location of the next member ellie gets a new side kick like the little scar kid abby got ( so you now got a joel and ellie story ellie being the wiser protector ) in the end you can kill abby or not but sets up another game last of us 3 ellie vs abby game or sets up the story with ellie as a mentor for the next game simple!!!
conclusion this game has ruined my love of naughty dog and there games now that i will be hard pressed to invest in there bullsh.t again GOOD WORK!!
10/10 LMFAO 3/10 AT BEST AND ONLY FOR GRAPHICS AND GAMPLAY

It was at this moment I that they fired the original writer and started putting in an inexperienced wannabe crowd pleaser. Now, I don't mind a bit of diversity (it is probably a requirement at this point) but it all feels so forced. Characters are blatantly shallow, motivations have been tossed out of the window and what should have been an awesome finale to a great game feels like a gut punch from naughty dog because of reasons I will never understand. If their goal was to make an LGBTQ character we could symphatize with they have failed horribly. Instead they have given us a token, a throw-away that should have been an npc-companion you would learn to appreciate during a long struggle to survive, not the main character of a franchise that was supposed to have a long future. A waste of potential, both of a diverse character, a strong female lead and a franchise naughty dog could have milked out for the next 2 decades. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have so many complaints I'm not sure where to start. For about 50% of the game, you play as Abby, this character who, I suppose, we are supposed to connect with & feel sorry for — ya know, after she brutally murders Joel.

When it comes to scenery, voice acting and acting in general, the lightning, all the mechanics and how well every detail in the game was amazingly thought out, truly I was in awe for all of those things, but it´s A STORY BASED GAME, and it´s sums up to nothing when the story is disappointing. Now I expected to Joel to die in this second part, I was ready for that, but to kill him that way? I got mad at the fact that Joel and Tommy walked into a group like that without any hesitation, they survived for years, they know not to trust people, but they did and that was so out of character from both. Also this games forces you to do the worst things when you´re playing as Ellie, and then tries to be the savior with Abby with a hidden agenda to get you as a player to like Abby which fails completely on my part. Also those 5+ hours of playing Abby were so boring, I found myself not even searching for collectibles and just wanted to get it over with. Lev and Yara were interesting characters which lighted up the mood when playing as Abby. Also hated the fact that you have to beat up Ellie. Spent the whole first game trying to protect Ellie so that they make us beat her on the second? what is all that about? I wish we had more character development with Jesse and Dina, they had great potential. Like that bonfire scene talked about Ellie mentioned before playing the guitar, I would have loved to see how they played out. that way we had a better idea of how good Ellie had it and how much she cared for Dina and threw it all away for revenge. that would have been more impactful than the manipulative story line of trying to make Abby the better person when she is in fact the worst. She takes pleasure on pain, Ellie got traumatized. I'm honestly disappointed. Expand

The graphics are good, the gameplay is fun, but it isn’t much different than the first one, but the story, oh boy the story was complete and utter crap. Now I for one could not care less about all these “sjw” elements that people are complaining about. The fact that people are complaining about that stuff makes people not realize the story is just garbage. Joel’s death was an embarrassment to a beloved character, but even that was not the worst part. Naughty dog decided to **** on Joel even more by making us play half the game as the person who killed him, and decided to try to make her relatable? I can’t forgive them for what they did to my boy Joel. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My brother and I were huge fans of the first game, the story and cinematic experience itself was unlike any other game that we had ever played. Never had either of us been so moved by a story before. The game play for the first game is not as smooth or good as part II. That's a given since it's been 7 years since the first game. TLOU Part 2 looks amazing in terms of graphics, game play, and voice acting. Despite that, both of us felt that the second game story wise, fell flat on it's face.

The execution of Joel's death that happens and is in the beginning 2 hours of the game, to unwise and uncharacteristic decisions of Tommy and Joel, not balancing the game with lighter tones and jokes (like the first game), forcing you to play the game in a way where you wish you could make a different decision, makes it impossible to truly enjoy this game.

After Joel gets killed, it's super difficult to even continue playing this game, since he's gone and you end up playing as Abby. In one word, I would describe this game as depression. It's hard to empathize with a character (Abby), who you know nothing about and you don't have an entire game to make a connection with her, unlike in the first game with Joel and Ellie.

I think if the execution of the story was slightly altered, it could've been a phenomenal experience, but due to inconsistent writing that doesn't line up with the previous game, it's an utter disappointment.

    Story wise: 3/10.
    Character development: 5/10.

Horrible story choices, so that's why it stays at a 3, since the first game story wise was a masterpiece.

Dear god where do i begin, im giving the game a 3/10 mainly due to story which may be unfair, i loved the graphics and mechanics and how much more things you could do relative to the first game but the story was harsh, i expected joel to die but that was still a heart breaking moment, Hunting down abby and her group was a given and i enjoyed alot of that part of the story i also loved the relationship between dina and ellie. Now on to my issues, i hate how naughty dog forced us to play as the character who murdered joel that just felt so wrong i wish i could change it and not only that but after the fact we lose so many along the way and ellie still decides to leave what she has and go after abby, to then let her live. The one thing i was gripping on two before falling into the pit of unfair hatred was a lingering hope ellie would go home and be welcomed by jj and dina but for the last time my heart got shattered and we are left with nothing at the end. Also that scene with joel which is obviously only put to make you feel worse as you could tell ellie and joel were just beginning to salvage their relationship when he died. And after this wall of text i feel if you buy the game and are ok with disregarding story then i believe its a very worthwhile buy but if youre a die hard last of us fan, prepare your heart to be shattered 10 times over. The gameplay mechanics are almost the same, the graphics are stunning, the gameplay feels repetitive, the first like 4 hours of gameplay are ok, but man, the story is lame, the writer thinks im gonna have empathy w a whore that killed Joel when most of the players (including me) wanted to kill that **** they don't only give us a mediocre story that deserves a 6/10 at most, but they dont give us the option to kill that slut. On top of that they dont know how to make characters evolve,
Im gonna say this only 1 time for those "social warriors"out there: I DONT CARE ABOUT THE SEXUALITY OF A CHARACTER OR A WOMAN BEING THE ENEMY OF THE STORY. If theyre lesbians, bisexuals, asexuals, pansexuals, trans or they like to **** Clickers, im only a dude who enjoys a good story, w good character developement and a good ending, and this game didnt have any of those. Dina is just the love interest for Ellie and does nothing relevant in the game exept for being pregnant and an emotional support that stop bein supportive when Ellie needs her the most. Abby is a formidable enemy that knows what she does, until the script says that she needs to be stupid, same goes for Tommy and Jesse. tbh its too dissapointing to play this game and found that this is what they came up with... im just frustrated and sad that they did this with a franchise that could have been legendary.

Characters don't behave consistently 2. Unlike it's predecessor, theme of this game feels somewhat distant for me. I found it hard to sympathize with the choices made by main characters. 3. I'm not happy with how some returning characters were portrayed. I have a lot of love for them, they deserve better.

Bought this game despite the leaks because i had to play it after all these years of anticipation. The game looks great and the controls are solid just like the original(adding dodging mechanics and traversing similar to tomb raider). Gunplay is fun as usual especially when wiping out the super whiny enemies. The same scavenging mechanics are present in this one as well, all in all gameplay is still solid. There are many wipe open areas with not much to do especially in the Seattle area which makes it dull for a good chunk of the game.Unfortunately the story in this game is absolutely awful.Do not trust the critics on this one, more than half of them were paid off by Naughty Dog. Aside from the performances by the main cast it does not save this wretched unwanted tale of unrelenting agenda pushing.Neil Druckman has created a compromised mess of a game.By choosing to go the Rian Johnson route by subverting expectations, ignoring playtesters and fans, taking advice from questionable sources, and forcing employees to go through rigorous crunch periods to push out this unrealistic and laughable phantasmagoria he conjured in his head. For a story driven game the writing is stunningly poor to the point where you wonder why noone questioned the choices Druckman has fatefully made.I will refrain from spoilers but everybody knows at this point the dreadful scene that appears very early on in the game. Why naughty dog? Why this way? Why do it so poorly? It was a heartrending scene in not the way they intended. To me it felt like Druckman was personally spitting on whoever enjoyed the first game because he felt like they enjoyed it for reasons he didnt agree with.As i trudged through this bitter clunky story i noticed the Ellie we love didnt even develop as a character, instead becoming static midway through. Why you ask? Because in order to fully insult fans of this game the plot needs to be sacrificed. The controversy surrounding the LGBTQ aspects in this game is of no consequence, its great to see inclusion and perspectives from people on all sides of the spectrum but poor poor misguided Druckman used this as a tool and a crutch.Hammering these character traits down so hard the game seems to be more concerned with the way the characters are perceived and persecuted rather than focusing on an actual story. Making such a spectacle out of Ellie and Abby's sexual preferences takes the opposite effect.Rather than presenting these traits of the characters as something positive and organic,it is used in a very ugly way by punishing the characters for being gay. You can look at it as being realistic but the fact is it is not done in a well executed way.Supporting characters have bad goofy dialogue, poor decisions are made to fit the plot, and a very unfitting and pitiful end for a certain character leaves a bad taste in your mouth. The first game was brutal of course but it had a big big loving heart and by the end you understood whyJoel loves Ellie so much and why he had to do what he had to do to save her. In this game there is no heart, just ugly depressing situations that leave you with no hope and no sense of catharsis by the time the credits roll by.I finished this game feeling burnt out. With whats been going on in the world in 2020 we needed a win whether it be big or small, but this game is one big giant loss.Shame on Mr.Druckman for foisting his vile view of the world onto us. We dont need this game. Personally the story ended for me once Joel made his promise to Ellie after saving her. This sequel is just a representation of a delusional fantasy from a very sad man.Go back and play the first one and dont buy into this nonsense. The shill media overpraises this game because either the reviews are paid for or they are afraid of losing their precious review copies.Save your time and money! Less game play and more story that destroys it's lore and characters as soon as it gets rolling. It should have been a movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mainstream articles are going to tell you I’m a “bot” or “review bombing” this game. I’ll let you decide.
    Positives:
    - great graphics
    - great audio
    Neutrals:
    - gameplay is okay, hard to completely enjoy with the horrible storyline
    Negatives:
    - storyline - bland characters
    - boss fights are lame

Joel dying isn’t the problem; the situation he put himself in is out of his character. It took an entire game, traveling across country for Joel to grow to trust Ellie. Hell he even instilled this into Ellie; always be cautious of others. There were many instances we saw in the first one where we saw in the world of “The last of us” people are out for themselves and will kill you without hesitation. So I’m suppose to believe that Joel would just put himself in a situation with complete strangers to not only tell them where there town is, but get trapped by a bunch of strangers? It’s very clear to me theyre shoving an agenda down your throat. The characters were awful; there wasn’t much development. Ellie was fine but ruining the story the way they made it difficult to enjoy. And Naughty Dog hiring a company to copyright strike youtubers was just shady. And that ending; probably the worst part about the game. I’m just going to pretend this is some fan fiction.

They such a good environment and established story to make something great, however they completely blew it. Characters made decisions completely different from there established personalities and nothing anybody did had any effect on the end result. They make you play as a character you feel indifferent towards and is truly miserable for those parts (half the game). The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
