Joel’s death I guess nothing to Ellie because some how after pretty much killing all of her friends and now going to kill abby, Ellie some how feels bad for abby ( in which I was in raged about ) without the death of abby this game felt no meaning to me. I love when naughty dog try’s to make us feel bad when her friends die but we don’t. Every time one of her friends die I was cheering and rooting her to be next. I wish Jesse didn’t really die in the way he did. I think it was messed up in a way. He didn’t even get to know Dina was pregnant. Overall this game isn’t worth your time. When I finished the game I sat threw the credits wondering what just happened now the last 12 hours of the game. It’s sad to see this game end up this way . There’s going to be a 3rd one and it’s gonna be worse then the second one. Expand

Beautiful looking game with dated gameplay and a terrible story. For a single player story based game that is the most important part. It's written like a badly done fan fiction that thinks it's telling a deep story when in reality it's just a mess.

This game is kind of like those burgers that you see in McDonald's commercials, they look great but they're made from plastic and glue.
The game is visually stunning and plays well but unfortunately the gameplay and immaculate detailing are attached to a generic revenge plot that is told in a way that is beyond sub par. It takes beloved characters and forces them to behave uncharacteristically in service to a contrived plot that reeks of pretentiousness. The story itself tells events out of order and from multiple perspectives in an attempt to make you feel the consequences of your actions. This is poorly executed and actions that you took 6 hours ago (which held no weight to them prior to context) are suddenly thrown back in your face but by this time we've already moved on, it's too late to care.

The attempt at humanizing the game's villains falls flat and becomes infuriating after a certain amount of time, we are forced to play as the primary antagonist of the game for around 10 hours during which time we are mercilessly beaten over the head with attempts to show that this character is just a regular human being with relationships and problems not so different from Joel and Ellie, which is accentuated not so subtly by flashbacks in which the two lead characters of the game are shown in near identical situations. The problem with this attempt at humanization is that the group in discussion has committed an act that will make the vast majority of players loathe the thought of their existence, let alone the attempt at redemption. The attempt itself is also poorly executed often relying on situations in which the characters are shown caring for animals or children. It's as if Niel Druckmann suddenly forgot how to write a compelling character without using crutches.

Character development in game is essentially non existent, the story being told doesn't allow for much growth by either of our lead characters as it's told in a relatively short period (3 days). The supporting cast is well acted but we are never given enough time with these characters to learn anything about them or develop any sort of meaningful attachment despite them being rather important to the narrative. The dialogue between characters feels forced and messy and as a consequence their relationships feel unbelievable.

The ending is one of the biggest issues I had with the game, It is drawn out and nonsensical all in order to hammer home the absolutely groundbreaking message that this game delivers which is essentially that revenge is bad. Genius, I know. This point was more than sufficiently hammered in throughout the story and the ending did not need to be compromised to give us another example of how terrible revenge is.

This story should have been told within the same universe but with original characters, at least then it would only be a sub par sequel and not an insult to the characters that we know and adore, as well as the audience that purchased this game based on the good will that Naughty Dog earned with the original. It's a shame that the technical brilliance of this game will be overshadowed and mared by such a poorly written and sloppily executed story. In an ultra linear game that focuses primarily on story telling, I cannot in good conscience give any bonus points for a gameplay loop established in a previous game or for the insane amount of polish that the game possesses. My personal distaste for the direction of this game has been left out of this review as much as possible, honestly I wanted to give it a Zero but that wouldn't be fair or objective. 4/10 is as fair as I can be.

If you have any love or nostalgia towards "The Last of Us" then don't play this game, it will alter your perception of the characters and leave you with a bitter taste in your mouth. Knowing where this story leads will likely make it more difficult to enjoy the original game for the masterpiece that it was.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Starting off with what I liked most about that game was the game play it reminded me a lot of the Last of Us I. The graphics were gorgeous and it set the scene for most of the game, I also liked the mechanics but that's about all I truly liked about the game. Now the story... it was okay I was not a big fan of the story. And at times the story just seemed to drag on and I just wanted to the game to FINALLY get to the point, the goal of Ellie. Which did not continue until close to the end of Abby's play through. Which mind you was long and for the most part the worst part of the game not counting Joel's death of course (I will explain my opinion on that later). Abby's play through was just boring to me and I just wanted to get that part out of the way. The one thing that I despised about this part of the game was having to hurt Ellie! For the life of me I wanted no part of that but it had to be done... Now for Joel's death it seemed unnatural and so out of character of him, Joel just, he would never do what he did that resulted in that ambush. I strongly felt that Joel did not deserve to die like that, I'M not saying he did not deserve to die eventually because the guy literally decided to let humanity rot to save Ellie. BUT he did not deserve to have his head bashed in with a gulf club, know I'm not saying he should have died in this action packed scene filled with guns a-blazing or something like that. I personally thought that if you were gonna kill of this beloved character that was loved by all, one of the people of my all time favorite duo. At least have him die protecting the people he cared about like, Ellie or Tommy. I personally expected him to die protecting Ellie from and enemy or an infected not from a gulf club. But other than that I will say the game is okay... but I'm not playing through that again (way to long). But I feel there were better story's that they could have come up with for the TLOU2. Oh and... give the Neil Druckmann a break he's human too. You may not like the game but you shouldn't go harassing the guy. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Imagine this situation. Suppose you are a fan of the Witcher game (I deliberately chose a game of approximately equal cult status), and the publisher showed you a trailer with the continuation of the story of Herald and Ciri. And then the game comes out, and you instantly buy it. And ... Full **** up. This is not a TLOU. Cool graphics, a normal plot with gray morality, good gameplay, but this is some other game. I am now using the TLOU2 plot in The Witcher World. This is a spoiler ... A dumb pumped woman kills Herald from Rivia at the very beginning of the game, and you are offered to play for Ciri to avenge Herald. When Tsiri reaches the peak moment of his story, you are switched to that dumb woman who killed Herald, and they show that she is exactly the same as Herald. Look, she has the same skills, she has her own Enifer, her own Ciri, we returned the Herald to you, only now he is not a charismatic man, but a boring and not beautiful woman. Rejoice ... Why? How should we like her? That she saved the deer? Oh god ... No. I will not accept it. In general, it lasts another 10-15 hours, and when you reach the peak moment of meeting with Tsiri, you are forced to kill Tsiri with your own hands. Well ****, really? Personally, I just tried to die, but the game made me kill Ciri. This is hell, honestly. Well, the final part is just some kind of cheap Brazilian series.
In general ... If this story was a separate game, I am sure that the feedback from the players would be good enough. And so. We were deceived ...

To make such a abhorrent sequel to a near-perfect story brings tears to my eyes. LOU2’s story is not a labor of love; It didn’t take 7 years to make; and it makes no sense whatsoever compared to the first game. New characters we care nothing about are shoehorned into the narrative, while characters we know and love are ruined permanently. Such a miserable display.

So I just played it after a year of its release because I was so busy last year &now I was free also there was a good discount on it for days of play or something & I thought it's the right time to buy & play it & I really managed to keep nothing spoiled of the game for me all this time altho it was really hard for me like I knew something was gonna happen to Joel so I was so hyped to play it even now because man I loved the first part like I played it when I was 13 on ps3 then again remastered on ps4 & now I'm 21 so it's better be best experience to remember my childhood & even tho the rating was so bad by the very most of the players & everyone was **** about it & I was like they're hating it because it has gay couples & man that was not the problem because when I finished the game I was never feeling more disgusted about a game like this before honestly the gameplay was so far the best experience that's why im giving the game 4, hear my side of view because I really didn't have any problems with anyone being gay nor Abby having big guns even the death of Joel wasn't the real problem to me because I learnt last year that i can lose anyone at anytime & I shouldn't judge the way that someone died was it surprising or not because I lost my aunt & my uncle 2 different causes & my uncle was like a father to me anyways talked too much i was saying Joel was like a father to me in video games world so I cried my **** when he died & I was really mad & going to kill whoever killed Abby but I knew that there will be a cost even if Ellie died for it I'd be ok if we killed Abby but to get to play as Abby man that was so **** funny like seriously if she could now kill herself to save the humanity I wouldn't sympathize for her like really 10 hours?? What a waste of graphics & gameplay I really was playing myself out just to know the end I wasn't even fighting enemies like I did with Ellie that was really a waste i really wanna know what they were thinking when they made it they could just sums it up with a cutscene about why Abby killed Joel even they can show us she's nice or whatever they were trying to do like I don't really understand the point of showing her nice? Like plz what? I thought the death of Joel would be worth a great ending but that we didn't get & I know that they were trying to show us that revenge is making Ellie doing some bad **** & I don't really care because in their world everyone is killing everyone to survive like what do u want me to expect? Think about the things you love about the first game and then play it again. Then take some time out of your day to write an essay on how the world around these characters concludes. Read it back to yourself 10 times and hold it dear in your mind. Sell this game if you bought it or do the unsuspecting used buyer a service and destroy it.

I finished the game in 25 hours, I took my time with it because I was genuinely enjoying the game play. The exploration, the scavenging, the survival horror moments and the guerrilla-ish hit and run combat I did.

When I was holding the controller it was fun, but whenever I put it down to watch instead? I didn't enjoy what I watched, at all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the mechanics, the sounds, the music, the maps, the characters aesthetics and layers of different groups we come across. I like that Joel was present through flashbacks so we felt his impact and presence however the way he died, face down and in front of his loved ones, seemed like a cheap attempt to create a traumatic motivator for Ellie. It made Abby look sadistic. Unfortunately making a character like this enjoyable to play is a difficult challenge and I feel they missed the mark. This would be an issue if this were a movie. Abby didn’t feel like a well developed character, it felt like the plot was written first and she was created to fit into the mirroring aspects too much. I respect what they were trying to do but the second half of the game was a chore to play though as a result. For me they lost this out engagement when they made us play as Abby, a character we don’t like, and get us to hurt a character we like, Ellie. Had we played as Ellie then we w old still have understood both characters perspectives but it wouldn’t feel so uncomfortable for players. Depressing films are fine. A depressing story in a game need much better characters and a hook that makes us enjoy playing them and this game missed than by forcing the ‘mirroring’ in the story writing. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What is the most valuable element of the end of a story? It's the pay-off. In the Last of Us 1, you finish the game with a feeling of satisfaction because you just finished processing a massive plot twist and the final cutscene carries a scent of mystery and anticipation for the next installment while also offering a much-desired pay-off. The Last Of Us 2 however, succeeds in undoing all of that. By the time, I was done with the game, I immediately noticed there was no pay-off but instead all I could feel was an unrelenting sense of emptiness as the main character, Ellie ends up losing everything for nothing and the new character, Abby is the only who has a decent conclusion. The game somehow disrespects all our favorite characters and destroys them like they are nothing and from their remains, they try to build a new character whom we are forced to play as and encouraged to sympathize with. I did my best to try but to no avail, as the game simply put, attempts to coerce us into liking the character and the experience is very similar to a mother stuffing food into a child's mouth because she believes the child enjoys it when they actually don't. The Last Of Us 2 is a tragic story and nothing more. It bears no emotion, only rage with no tears. The pacing of the story is extremely subpar, as well as its narrative as the game constantly forces us through flashbacks within flashbacks and while, this is somewhat tolerable at first, it gets stale very quickly. As for the gameplay, while being jampacked with intense moments where you must 'smart' your way through levels instead of just going in guns blazing, it's still very slow and clunky and there is little innovation between the previous iteration and this one. The Last Of Us 2 is a far cry from its predecessor and throughout its story, it constantly stabs its fans repeatedly with the ending being the final twist of the knife. Expand

First off, I'm a huge apocalyptic game fanatic, and I really liked The Last of us 1. I actually only recently played it. The game felt almost like watching a movie, which is what I was expecting with the second one. The voice acting is great, the score is haunting but the narrative was so odd. Forcing a player to play as a character that just murdered Joel. I guess this hurt more considering I just played TLOU1...
Too bad really, this had the potential to be something great, but I feel the injected politics ruined it.

I waited so long for it and what we got was less of a sequel to a game we all loved but more of a spinoff where we play as new characters we are supposed to sympathize with but we cannot more than hate. The ending left me with such high depression that makes me unable to touch that game again. There is way more to it that makes it so frustrating but i think it has been said dozens of times enough in all the other reviews on this platform here or others. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really liked the first half of the game, as Ellie, but the other half as Abby and the end it's just terrible. I mean, why we have to play as Abby? The character that tortures and kills Joel and Jesse! For the player it's not nice to play with an unbearable and irritating character as her. I was angry and uncomfortable all the second half of the game, and for me, as a player, that was a very negative point. it's like they want us to empathize with her, with her father death, the two Scars and the WLF group. We wanted from the start Ellie's revenge, not Abby's adventure and feels. At the end, when we have the only opportunity to kill Abby, we just let her go. In that way Ellie's journey to kill Abby has no sense, even all the hundreds of people that we killed to get to her and all the people we losed, for nothing! The graphics, the playability, the details and soundtrack are very nice, but what this game makes it special is the storyline and characters. I'm really sorry for the people who waited 7 years for this terrible experience. I was very confident in the narrative work of Naughty Dog, but this with no doubt, was a very disappointing game. Firstly
I would like to talk about what the game pleases me
in sound design is something impeacevel
in graphics and captures of facial expressions is for sure the best game I have ever seen
the game deserves Goty for having the best fascinating technical details but the way the narrative develops, I believe it was a good narrative but I really didn't feel the emotion of 7 years ago that I had with part 1
    The way the narrative develops
with Joel's death in a ridiculous way
made me accumulate a gigantic hate for Abby
even after 10 HOURS of gameplay showing Abby's story she was not able to take a gigantic hatred of me for her
The game was based on revenge all the time
    ellie lost everything for that
when I really thought I would have the satisfaction of watching Abby die
was give me the human value 'Vengeance only brings the worst' and 'forgiving is right'
i wish i could be relieved to see ellie be able to kill her and she feel relieved to have got her revenge but it wasn’t me deliver that emotion
Joel's death made me want to die inside
the character q in the first game said:
    -do not trust strangers
left to be taken by a group of armed people
all that Joel said in part 1 to try to make ellie grow strong was completely forgotten
    this is **** ****
The whole experience in the game is in vain
one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen was ellie playing the guitar
I will never be able to have the same emotion that I felt when I heard her playing and me knowing that Joel was fulfilled his promise to teach her
all the emotions you have in the game are lost due to causes of 'human values'
i really wish i could cry like i cried in part 1 after replaying it 5 times
but I don’t think it’s possible after the feeling of insastification after finishing the game
The game is perfect in technical matters but fails to make the player feel an emotion equal to 7 years ago with part 1.
    that was my opinion
may be poorly structured, but it still remains what I think about the game

The first last of us for me didn’t need a sequel, the first one for me had a great ending and could’ve just ended like that but in 2016 they revealed the last of us part 2 and I was really hyped for it but after these review bombs I thought people were just hating on it but not playing it so I decided to play it myself and have my own opinion trying not to be negative about, but every time more and more I just get disappointed, we waited 7 years for this?, we don’t even get to know a character well and just get killed for the sake of shock value, Jesse has like 6 scenes and he is killed off immediately and forgotten mostly every death in this game is forgotten, not once did they mention jesse after he died he is only mentioned in Ellie’s journal and not many people read it, the flashbacks looks like it’s out of place, when you start the game you are wondering what happened in the party because they mention it but about 20 hours later they finally show the scene and I completely forgot about that, I feel like they were planning to show that scene in the beginning but they just randomly put a flashback scene anywhere, the flashback scenes are the best thing in the entire game but they are not placed well, I think if they showed all the flashback scenes of Joel and Ellie in the beginning than his death would carry more weight, I didn’t feel nothing in Joel’s death, they keep mentioning this falling out but we don’t see it until like 16 hours in, I knew Joel was gonna die in this game but his death wasn’t really executed well, and the ending had no payoff and that got me really disappointed and I wondered to myself “what was the point of this game if she didn’t achieve her own goal?” The gameplay is the same as the first one and has little improvements, I didn’t get bored of it, but It’s just the same and you waited for this game for 7 years, the AI are so outdated and I beated this game on hard difficulty and the boss fights are the most easiest boss fight I have ever played, this one is about Abby, I think the Abby section is just useless they show some new characters and kill them off for the sake of shock value and Ellie kills all of her friends just to know that revenge is bad, I give this game a 4/10 because it is disappointing to the fans that have waited 7 years for and it didn’t achieve nothing it just tells you that revenge is bad and everyone knows that and no character gets Development. Beautiful game. Looks fantastic. Gameplay is a bit dated but is a slight improvement from the previous game.
Story however is an absolute mess, and for me the story is what I loved about the first game. Plot holes, characters that act out of character and make dumb decisions, side characters with no depth... these are things I’m very dissapointed in.

I want to f*****g scream. Not only did Naughty Dog wanted us to sympathize with this psychopath who tortured Joel in front of Ellie with a literal golf club, by showing us her sAD bAcKsToRy, but also they completely neglected Ellie who everyone expected to be the main focus (as she should!). Do I look like a person that gives a s**t about some random girl that we haven't even seen before? Disappointment of the year. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is the most beautiful game I have ever played. The opening scene alone is worth a 10/10. But looks alone can only take a game so far . Here are some of the problems I observed while playing the game:

    1) it just way too dark - the story of Last of us used to be about hope even in the bleakest of times , but the sequel has completely forgotten that and made it a half broken story about revenge and most of all the story was so dark that since I have finished the game I don't even want to look at my PS4.

    2) the story has a lot of narrative flaws - I mean a lot 3) combat is the same as the previous game - basically they just copied the previous games combat with a few minor improvements

Pro tip: when you fight Ellie just let her kill you 10 - 20 time's it's the most satisfying thing in the game

On an unrelated note for those who have played the : I bet jole don't like golf

To say that this game is more than 8, is not honest review. The game is not less than four I imagine, but I was unable to enjoy the game because of the story, and being a story focused it deserves a four. However, I can understand that the fair score would be a six, lousy writing by a lousy producer. The game is not bad because of leftist ideology, more because of the lack of capacity from those who made it. xD

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game looks amazing, animations and environments are top notch. Technical side of it is at industry's standard.
But: the story is unsatisfying. If you decide to make a game that gives you no choice in anything except for how to handle encounters, you better make sure the story is compelling. 20 hours trying to catch a person to you let her go in the end? And 10 more hours playing that very person that you are chasing and you pretty much hate by that point? Why bother? Honestly I finished the game just to know the ending (which surprisingly made my impression twice as bad!).
Plus all the annoying flashbacks? Can't Neil just tell a story without flashbacks? I think at one point we were like 3 flashbacks within (yes, flashback within flashback within flashback).
Then the characters, oh boy the characters. Ellie murders HUNDREDS of people along the way, but is shaken by killing 2 or 3 more when the story needs it. Abby is just flat and cliche all over (they killed my dad, so I will spend the next 10 years hunting down the killer).
Don't listen to the critics, its political. Also don't listen to people saying review bombing is based on LG BT issues. I haven't seen any review here so far confirming that. The story is just bad. Either let the player choose, or serve them a good ******* story.

The gameplay is solid but not innovative in any way. The sound design and graphics are incredible and set a new high water mark for the industry. The story, while an interesting idea, is executed very poorly. Unlikable characters, and bad pacing kill the motivation to stay with the story through multiple flashbacks and time line jumps. The last 4 hours of the game shouldn't even exist.

The fake quarantine imo has a lot to do with what the hell is going on: many people's minds are literally becoming numb being taken away from the depths of themselves AKA limited to superficial consciousness, while certain other people who are also stuck at home, are "expanding" and feeling growth and going and doing certain things outside of their house while also agreeing that COVID-19 is a very serious disease to be taken into account, and they are also people who have worn a mask at a certain time just to go get the mail. Because it turns out that (speaking from a first world perspective) that if one million people die in three months by a single disease never heard of before, then the entire moral earth is also in danger of dying, and therefore a pandemic and a quarantine shall be called. Okay, I understand, is the responsible and reasonable response. But then all governments world-wide realize that due to over-population, quarantining the sick from their societies would be too much a hassle. So out of sheer laziness, they demand that YOU must stay inside, that you must follow their rules mindlessly which is actually NO RULES AT ALL. As a result, conflict is ensuing that is purely psychological and refined to this point and manner. Many people have killed themselves, degenerates showed themselves destroying shops and setting things on fire to "send a message", and CHAZ exists, and the police are as much a scapegoat for people's boredom to feel powerful as Hitler's and anti-semites' were in saying the Jews were the cause and the real problem and needed to be 'solved', in place of one's own outrage against unreason, and nothing else, which just then happens to be assimilated with violence and random lives being ended. This is inarguable, whether you like it or not. THIS mentality is then imbued into a videogame. I say "then" because of the way I started the order of this writing, but in reality obviously one did not cause the other. But this mentality and the release of this game with this kind of thinking is huge, and what exactly is the mentality? The great negativity in self-awareness and blaming of other people or people's as the root for your own problems, and then situating oneself to the point of saying that controlling or hurting someone else shall solve mine, perhaps dramatizing small back-and-forth dialogue conversations/heated arguments as LITERAL serious means for "war". Sound familiar? People know what I am talking about, we've all laughed at this. So, then one sees THIS happen in a videogame, but it had a predecessor. What was that like? There was a main character with so many individual traits that grant him the status of nigh heroic, along with a side character who is absolutely enjoyable, maybe corny at times, but is also part of the entire plot moving in the first place, and what we find is a grand transposition and misplacement of values when thinking of comparing this game to the game we have today. In the first game, Joel is established as heartbroken, suffering, hardened, but also we find moments where he is vigorous and alive. Ellie is your average 14 year old who has also just lost people she loved or felt highly affectionate for. Then we realize that she has a trait where she can't get infected---and the plot itself is simplified and understood ideally for the audience. Keep her safe, keep her alive, possibly a cure, as we predominantly play as Joel. Now I then BECOME JOEL, I AM heroic, my daughter was the one lost in the first few moments of the game, I am the one who cries when Joel finds elliie as she butchered David during the end of the winter chapter, etc. THISISWHATVIDEOGAMESDO. In comparison to books, films, sculptures, painting, other mediums of art, video games directly impact people in a refined way, a very refined way. I do not have to imagine certain things that videogames show for me, and the greatest games offer a balance between what I can do indepently within the game, while ALSO following the creators' lead, because that ultimately is what one does when playing a created game, even though the word "created" feels redundant in the sense I just conveyed. SO in TLOU2, the lead I follow makes no sense, like this quarantine thing, using the human debility of pity, in other words, assigning another one's SELF as one's own self, in order to understand a message or get a message across. How can I do that if it is ONLY myself that plays your game individually? Do you see the connection between this and the tyranny of the "qurantine"? A virus that is new and harmful TO YOU , but then assumed to be that way FOR EVERYONE? ASIF you know and understand everyone? This is a will to "equality" & is disguised as "revenge is bad". **** Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In creating The Last of Us Part 2, Naughty Dog attempts to completely shy away from the beauty and themes of made players love its predecessor. Though the the developers try to create a new complex experience for fans, they end up creating a jumbled experience that forces players into an emotional roller coaster.

For this review, I am not going to talk about the game play and graphics. I feel like Naughty Dog needs to understand that fans of the game don't play the Last of Us for the game play, rather they play for the investing story. With all the specs of the game aside, the story that the games writers created surrounding vengeance falls flat.

First off, writers of the game choose to use Joel Miller, the main character of the first game, only as symbol of sorrow and the past. Naughty Dog has completely thrown away this character, and with it the relationship between Joel and Ellie that players were hoping to see. Joel's death only serves to add emotion, to push to the plot forward, and to emphasize the message that Naughty Dog is trying to convey. I am not saying that Joel shouldn't die whatsoever, I am saying that Naughty Dog should've used the character ins a more meaningful way in the game, allowing the player to still experience the game alongside him. To make things worse, prior to release the game was advertised as if Joel would be a main part of the story line. This choice buy the Naughty Dog is absolutely evil as they are basically promising buyers that the game will be one thing when it is something completely different. Through this, Naughty Dog is forcing players to play through their story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think first time I heard about this game in 2016. Back then one designer works for Naughty dog, writes hers linkedin page about the design of Ellie. Like she was 4-5 year older than the first game. After that I heard a rumor, something like "Joel is dying". I just like I hope it won't happen. When the first trailer comes up, when I heard Joel's voice I was in relief.

I pre-ordered the game in October 2019, game delayed after again again. Then Sony decided to give our money back without asking. I was like "wtf, I can wait, why the hell are you giving the money back". After I got my money back I watch the latest trailers. I was expecting a couple of things like more black people and more gay/lesbian/transexual etc. because that is the new trend. That is ok for me.

I just re-pre-order the game again, waiting to download and open its lock. I played it 3 days, it took almost 30 hours. I cried in the scenes like Joel's death, Tommy's got shot and Ellie's barn scene.

I played the first game in both ps3 and ps4. I bought all dlc's in ps3, all finished it. Also I'm collecting the trophies of the games, so I finished it on Grounded mode etc.

After I played a lot of times, Ellie is like a daughter to me. While I played the dlc's, I feel like Joel is a father to me.

Comes to the game again, Killing my father, I will begin my revenge with my friends and my uncle. Doing that my uncle got crippled, my friend is dead. I killed almost everybody, but not the main character. So I decided to go back, living with my lover and her son. After everything seems settled, crippled uncle comes to me and said he found the main character. I decided to go hundred of kilometers to find the character, almost killed couple of times.

In the end, decided to not to get her revenge. That is because she can see Joel good in her dreams back. That isn't a storytelling, that is something like Stephen King movie. Everything is good, but ending is soooo bad so it ruins almost everything.

I give that score for music, athmosphere etc.

Last note to Neil Druckmann, when you say something, you need to keep behind it. When the people talks about the overpowered girl, you said "we don't wanna sexualize the women". But in the game that very character get **** literally. In that scene we can see Owen's **** is bigger than hers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's hard to give this game a fair shake due to all the controversy, from the leaks to behavior of Sony and Naughty Dog to the blatant lying and spread of misinformation by the access media. Even some misleading information from the official trailers. That said, let's give it a shot.

Story, not a fan, there are so many problems here, let's begin.

The players that don't make it past Joel's death cannot be blamed for that, nor should they be blamed for making their reviews solely on that event alone. The set up abandoned all of Joel's character building from the first, it was disrespectful to his character and ultimately, has no payoff by the end of the game. This is the first event that literally persuades the player from not continuing the game, and it's a big one.

Next, Abby. Her character design is particularly strange. There's absolutely nothing that makes you like her and empathize with her. I hate to say she's agenda driven, but that's the only thing that seems to make sense in her design. To put it as simple as possible, she was created to kill Joel. Why anyone would expect you to like and empathize with her after that is ludicrous. She is the antagonist, plain and simple. We hate her.

So she let's Ellie survive and you spend half the game trying to get close to her again. Could feel like the whole game for some people, and this is where you meet your next big scenario that makes you want to stop playing the game for good. You finally end up in a scenario with Abby, you expect some big fight is going to happen, it's an intense moment, you don't know what's gonna happen because you don't have the upper hand and what happens??? It fades to black and suddenly your playing Abby's backstory and your first thought it WHAT THE EFF?? Second thought is, I DON'T CARE. Then you are overcome with the desire to simply quit playing.

So you somehow go through all that, you get to the end of the game hoping something will make it worth it and then comes the final slap in the face. Ellie loves playing the guitar, it's her thing, it was in her trailers and marketing and had a few special moments throughout the game. Then what happens? You fight with Abby, she effing bites your fingers off and despite her killing Joel, and all the killing Ellie had to do to even get here, she let's Abby go.

What was even the point of it all? WHAT WAS THE POINT!? Where's the payoff to killing Joel early in the story? Why make you play as Abby? She was irredeemable for anyone invested in these characters and franchise. Okay, Joel killer her father, but why did he do it? Self-defense? To protect Ellie??? Here we have a game about revenge that begins with Abby taking hers and then Ellie is like naw???? Tell me how this makes sense? Worst of all is the final salt in your wounds when Ellie can no longer play her guitar.

Atmosphere and graphics are perfectly set and gorgeous. Anyone saying this isn't one of the best looking games on PS4 would be disingenuous. The graphics don't save the game by any means, but they certainly bring the score up and that's about all I have to say on that.

Gameplay? I mean you're forced to kill a dog. That really sucks. Game loves making you do things and then feel bad for them. Plays better than it's predecessor but still gets repetitious and somewhat boring. Especially the latter half of the game because if you're still motivated to play at that point, all you want to do is get to the end.

This game was a massive disappointment primarily due to the story decisions. The story is objectively bad and it makes you feel bad for playing through it. The only thing I am personally thankful for is that I am not invested in these characters like so many others. With that said, I am still heartbroken for Joel and Ellie.

In closing, I'll say that while this game may sell well, the fans will not support a third entry. The bridge is burning and there's nothing that can be done to save it.

technical marvel. The visuals are stunning, the soundscape and voice acting is incredible. The gameplay is passable (as to be expected of a story based game) and is very similar to TLOU. However, the big problem with this game is the story. Not a single character in this entire story is likeable (except maybe Lev), which is a big problem if you’re spending 30 hours with them. The deaths are weak and unsatisfying, with the majority of characters (such as Joel, who’s death was executed terribly) being given a mediocre send off done for shock value and easy plot development. The plot itself is incredibly generic, with the barely explored theme of “revenge is bad” being beaten into you with the complexity and subtlety of a baseball bat. Throw in having to play as Abby (who they desperately try to make sympathetic despite brutally beating Joel to death TEN HOURS of gameplay before) for 12 hours, and a good chunk of the game simply isn’t fun. And of course, we can’t forget about the atrocious ending. After sacrificing everything and killing hundreds of innocent people, Ellie ends up letting Abby get away, leaving us thinking, “that’s it?” Overall, the game story is just like the ending, an unsatisfying waste of enormous potential.

Let me first start off by saying this has nothing to do with the LGBTQ community since I did not mind/care about the same sex relationship or the transgender references/characters. What I did care about was the fact that the story just felt like nothing to me. From the beginning, once they announced a second game, I had a feeling Joel was going to die. It made sense, he had been around in the apocalypse for a long ass time, it was bound to happen eventually. Its important to be able to lose characters that you grow with, especially when it has the opportunity to pull out strong emotions from the audience. But this... This.. This was just too much. The fact that Joel gets smashed within the first few moments of the game was something, but the real issue I had with it was that he didnt get any honor to his death. No "I love you Ellie" or goodbyes, or anything. He is just gone, and after playing through him in the last game, growing with him over 7 years, and seeing him as the father figure he is. The developers felt it was okay to say bye bye. Which is just wrong.

As for Abby, I have not hated a character more than her. I think they could have done some good things with her, but the fact that I had to play as her for 10-15 hours of my gameplay, going through a story that I did not care about at all, and meeting characters I counted give a **** about and kind of wanted to kill right there, did not sit well with me. From the few times I would die as Abby, I laughed, because I cared that little for her character. I did not care for any of the main cast in her storyline, I did not care for the Scar children, and therefore as they all started to drop out one-by-one, I felt nothing. Nothing registered as they were killed because I did not feel anything towards the characters. The whole point of it was so that we can attempt to have some understanding and acceptance towards Abby, but that never came for me. (I'm not angry at her for killing Joel, just an f.y.i, like I said, him dying was not a bad part of the game)

Oh and don't get me started about Jessie's death. They just had to get him out of there to make it easier for Dina and Ellie to be together so he wouldn't be around with the baby. Removing a great character like that who is a strong character supporting the Asian community was just a rude idea. Laziest story writing ever.

All in all, this was a beautiful game. Design was 10/10, Gameplay itself was 10/10. It was the story and the characters which are the things that fell flat for me, and that is the biggest part of becoming attached to a game. You can make it look as pretty as you want, but you need more than graphics.

Coming from The Last Of Us, we were not expecting a Part 2, but here we are 7 years later and oh my god. So as I stated, the story is not very good. I know where they were trying to go, but they went about it the wrong way. Not only did they kill off a beloved character (one of the MAIN characters may I add) they didn't even have Ellie kill Abbey. As well as having us play as the killer of JOEL! And they try to make you feel sorry for her! Naughty dog even MISLEAD all the fans of the game by inserting Joel into roles that HE IS NOT IN! Now, I understood about the whole "ending the cycle" of non-stop killing. When you read these reviews on websites about the whole "these people are homophobic or they are incels" and the list goes on. NO! This is not the case for everyone. I have played the ENTIRE game through and i had no issue with LGBT. Most people are negative bombing the game without playing it, and just solely giving reviews on the leaks they see, or they are just agreeing with people who have a bigger following. I actually applaud naughty dog for doing this, BUT DO NOT call the people who don't like the game homophobic, trans-phobic, incels and etc. It just shows how immature these sites are.

So all in all, It isn't a bad game. Bad story? YES. Good graphics? YES. But we are not allowed to hate the games story without the name calling. It has to stop!

Thank you and have a nice day!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While the game boasts great graphics and level design, the story and pacing fail this game completely. I'll say this right now, the writing is terrible. I don't say that as somebody just saying that because I disliked some of the infamous story choices, the characters are unrelatable and uninteresting. There is no emotional investment into any of them as individuals and they feel forced in there just to facilitate the story. Characters die before they become interesting, others are written so badly that you cannot care about them. The developers attempt to emotionally manipulate the player in cheap and obvious ways, trying to make the player feel bad constantly. This didn't effect me but It was very obvious and it became irksome and preachy.

It suffers from awful pacing, most of the time it feels like a slog to get through. This can be partly due to the choice to bring the game to a grinding halt at the halfway point, only to branch off into side stories. They might be okay on their own, but within the context of the grander story, it completely throws the pacing and atmosphere built by the first half. I found myself just wanting to get back to the story but I had to revisit the same locations over and over playing characters I didn't like or care about. The ending is terrible and makes no sense, it feels incredibly forced and It felt like this entire game was built around a theme or premise, rather than built around being a great experience.

The game itself has issues but the deceptive marketing and proven lies from the developers soured the atmosphere and has had a very negative impact on those who bought into a false premise. Terrible practices to attempt to save sales at the expense of audience trust. I truly wanted to like this game, I went into it with a positive attitude and open mind and I struggled to even finish it considering how bored and uninvested I felt by then. What a shame.

    - the graphics are great
    - the gameplay is smooth
    - the voice acting is absolutely phenominal
the negatives of this game based solely on my opinion are as follows
    - the treatment of the characters is horrific
    - the story feels very forced and doesn't flow like with one flashback you find out Abby's reason for killing Joel which is he killed her dad. I feel no sympathy and he made it clean while she tortured him without hesitation.
    - Being forced to make decisions like killing dogs as Ellie when we were told we would have the option
    - The sex scene where druckmann I mean manny rawdogged Abby had no actual point in being in the game other than more shock value like with killing joel
    - It feels like I am watching a TV series and not playing a game
    - at the end of the day it is a story driven game and it is unfortunate that the story is this bad when the voice actors did so well on their end and the gameplay and graphics are so good because I can only give it a 4 out 10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I managed to avoid all the leaks and spoilers and didn't read any reviews prior to playing. I intended to play this game with a blank slate so that I could truly appreciate what I thought was going to be one of the best sequels ever made.

    Intro
I regard The Last of Us (original game) to be one of the best games I've ever played. Part II doesn't match for me. The storytelling, gameplay, and the graphical achievement of the original are what made the first game great in my opinion - with the storytelling part being the strongest element. Part II utterly lacked the storytelling element for me, and not because bad things happened and I didn't like them. While I was playing, I often thought "what is the point in this?"

    The Story
I'm just going to get straight to the point here because it's my main criticism of the game. Very early on in the game, the antagonist is established to the audience since she kills our father figure antihero protagonist from the original game. No problem, the scene is set. It makes sense; his history has finally caught up with him, but in the most brutal fashion imaginable. The audience now hates her and wants to kill her and intends to spend the rest of the game seeking Joel's vengeance.

After this painful and angering moment, the audience is forced to play about half the game as Abby. I understand that the intentions of Naughty Dog here were to show that there are two sides to every story, but it was done ineffectively here. Her side of the story didn't connect with me in any way whatsoever. I found myself trying to speedrun parts of the game where I had to play as her because I simply had no interest in trying to understand her motives and lacked any empathy for the antagonist. As mentioned before, I didn't see the point. The audience is angry with this character and is now being forced to play entire segments they simply have no care or pity for. We see a sequence where her father, a surgeon who was about to perform the fatal procedure on Ellie, was killed by Joel in order to save her life. So what? The audience doesn't connect with Abby's side of the narrative because they are accustomed to Joel's story and it felt as though this other story was being shoehorned in. There was no value in showing the antagonist's side of the story.

Throughout the narrative, major characters die. This isn't a problem in itself - but the impact of these deaths lost effect once the audience begins to realise there's no real reason these people are dying. Joel dies, Nora dies, Owen dies, Mel dies, Yara dies, Jesse dies, and so do a couple more of Abby's friends. What was the point? There was no resolution to any of these deaths and I asked "what are the developers trying to do here?" The audience empathised with Ellie on Joel's death and that was the majority of it. There was no sense in killing characters other than a small part of Nora's death because it felt as though Ellie's story was progressing. For the rest, the audience got nothing in return and there was no sense of fulfilment anywhere to be had. It's puzzling here trying to understand what Naughty Dog intended.

Naturally, Joel's death was most impactful and sets the audience hellbent on wanting some form of meaning from the very beginning - what is going to become of his death? In the end, the answer was simply nothing. His killer gets away and we played an entire 25 hour or so narrative so that we could see her get away with it even though everything leading up to the end made us want her dead. Every other plot point up until then just felt like filler. Ellie's relationship with Dina, Dina's pregnancy, the guitar, Abby's entire segments - it all felt like filler and the audience just wanted to be done with it and get to the story-rich part of the game, which sadly never came.

    The Gameplay
The game plays much like the original with improvement and additional features such as being able to go prone in tall grass for additional stealth, or being able to slip through small cracks as a means of evading enemies. For some gamers accustomed to fast-paced action, gameplay might feel sluggish. However, fans of the original should appreciate it because of its familiar and unique survival elements. My one criticism here is that controls occasionally felt unresponsive; sometimes button presses weren't registering and I sometimes found myself mashing triangle to pick up items, then going back because it missed them.

This game is also possibly the most accessible game ever made up to now. There are numerous options for gameplay customisation for those who may need special requirements.

    Graphical Achievement
Similar to the original game, these will be the best graphics of this ending console generation - it pushed current and ageing console hardware to its limits. Attention to detail in the game environments were very well done and are a marvel to look at.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall, playing The Last of Us Part 2 was a disappointment. The first game was undoubtedly a masterpiece. The fantastical world it took place in, the well developed characters and the satisfying gameplay. It all came together to create such an amazing experience. The first Last of Us had tremendous replay value, and for some, may have been the first game where the story was so captivating that the player felt a connection to the characters and a deep desire for them to succeed in their quest. Joel’s eventual brutal acts at the end of the game were ethically dubious, but from the player’s perspective, were completely justified as the importance/significance of Joel and Ellie’s bond was strong in the players mind, having played the game and seen it develop themselves. The Last of Us 2 unfortunately does not capitalise on all the good that the first game earned. In short, the writing for this game is crap. It’s dull and unlike the first game, I found myself not caring about the characters. Joel should have gone out like a champ, like the brave, tough, no nonsense guy we knew he was. We should have seen him backed into a corner, fighting to his last breath, his sacrifice resulting in others being able to escape with their lives. A hero/saviour of Jackson. But instead he went out like a punk. Joel and Tommy causally entering a room with a bunch of strangers. You’d think that years of living in this harsh new world would make Joel hypersensitive to danger and unfamiliar people. But it appears that the writers were not keen on that narrative. Instead the writers of this game, rewrote Joel to make him weak and moronic. Resulting in Joel having his head caved in with a 9 iron. The writers made Joel deserve the death he got. He was stupid and naive. Nothing like the Joel the players knew. The creators of this game destroyed Joel’s character. Was it worth it? Did we get a great story as a consequence of these events? No, we didn’t. Remember in the first game when Joel gives Ellie his rifle so that she can cover him. It highlighted a significant step forward in both characters development. Joel began to trust and respect Ellie’s capabilities and Joel and Ellie’s relationship/bond really became solid. Ellie transformed into a formidable character. This was evident when she has to fend for herself when Joel got hurt. Ellie from the second game is nothing like was was in the first. She is portrayed as weak, naive and unprepared. She always seems so surprised when the enemy knock her down or jump out from a corner. Hasn’t she been through all this before? In the Last of Us 2, Ellie is pathetic. Ellie achieved NOTHING. She got no revenge, no redemption. More people that she cared about got hurt or died during her quest to find Abby. Abby is portrayed as a brute, barbaric. Being forced to play as Abby was unpleasant. Even after playing through as Abby and seeing things from her perspective, I still deeply dislike her as a character. With all the stuff she goes through with her friends and lev, was I supposed to feel sorry for her, or at least start to understand her motives? Well I didn’t. Abby sucks. Tommy got **** over. He did most of the revenge work and still ended up almost dying. When we see him close to the end of the game, he is clearly physically and mentally broken. Tommy deserved so much better. At the end of it all: Abby survives! Hooray, woo, yeah.... wait what?! **** seriously. Ellie can’t bring herself to kill Abby. What the **** is that all about. Everything that the gang went through, Ellie, Dina, Jesse, Tommy. It was all for NOTHING. If the game ended just after Joel gets killed, it would have turned out better for everyone. No one from Jackson would necessarily have died and Abby probably would have died anyway. She would have been killed by the WLF for deserting, or killed during the WLF raid on the Scar island. The entire story didn’t matter. **** I’m so disappointed. Expand

After 7 years of anticipation for the next chapter in this series that many avid gamers such as myself who hold the original in such high regard, this mediocre attempt of a sequel tarnishes the original's legacy and decides to bash the players over the head with its ham-fisted political agenda and ideologies. The plot is contrived and tries to be cleverer than it actually is. The old characters are either a shell of their former selves or are just completely different from what they were before and make dumb decisions. The new characters are either bland, one dimensional or just plain terrible and any chance of any of them developing is short lived. As a longtime fan of Naughty Dog and all their works, I have never lost respect for a developer as quickly as I did for Naughty Dog. They should be ashamed of themselves for blatant false advertising in the trailer, having the trailers deceive fans into believing that they will go on the journey as Ellie with Joel by her side. FALSE Joel is barely even in the game and the scenes he is in are just pointless flashbacks and not to mention that you only play as Ellie for only half of the game, more or less. The absolute nerve the developers had to try and pull a page out of Kojima's book and have the player play as a character that they despise and think that you'll grow to empathise with her is something that will go down in gaming history as one of the worst decisions of gaming development. The reason why the switch worked more for Kojima is pretty simple: Raiden didn't kill any beloved characters. Gender and identity politics have no place in being in a game like this. In a world ravaged by a deadly fungus and infected , survival and knowing whom to trust or not to, are the most paramount things to care about in the game's world, not what your gender or sexual orientation is. If this is the route that lies in wait for the new generation of gaming that is approaching then I will no longer be apart of this community. True gamers like myself play these games as a form of escapism, not to be bogged down with political messaging that's about as subtle as using gasoline to put out a fire. If you loved everything about the original game then you'll be doing yourself a favour by not buying this game, or hell even renting it. I have never written a review or anything like this on these types of sites but the way this game affected me for the wrong reasons I just had to put my thoughts into words. RIP Joel, you deserved better Expand

    1-. Acontecimientos sin sentido.

Gameplay is really good, the sneak mechanics are probably the best we seen so far! 10/10. The graphics are incredible, even on the regular PS4 the game looks and feels amazing! 10/10...
Now to the not so good... And i really want to do this, but the new characters in this game are utter **** They are either boring or bland or a good mix. Take Abbey for instance the only weakness she has is a fear of heights (and possibly fitting through narrow spaces), why is that? WE DON'T **** KNOW! A golden opportunity to actually flesh out a new character squandered... The only character, that's new mind you, that made me laugh was Lev for him not being able to take a joke. This makes the parts where you play as Abbey incredibly tedious and boring. 1/10. And since this is such a story and character driven game it drags it down a lot!
Ahhh... The story... It's a very, very good story... If you like logical inconsistencies and boring plot points. Lets take the biggest sin here... and spoiler warning if you haven't played the game! Joel, Ellie and Tommy would all die during their first encounter with the WLF. They have zero reason to keep them alive and they are even a liability for them, since they can ID them... And the only reason this is done for a visceral effect, where GoT managed to do this perfectly (at least the first couple of seasons) this feels like a cheap copy... And i'm not saying don't kill Joel, but this feels like killing him just to drive the story.
At the end of the day, it's a huge disappointment. Yet i'm torn between giving this game a 4 or a 5... The gameplay is really that good, but since there is no trophy for beating this on survivor and a short trophy list in general i'm going with a 4. Looks like an easy platinum though, so i guess i'll finish that before returning it to the store... #heartbroken

I pushed through this games story after having to pause at the halfway point and completed it in 3 days. I want to break down this review down into story, characters, and gameplay. If anyone is jumping into this game before EXPERIENCING the first game you will have wildly different viewsI pushed through this games story after having to pause at the halfway point and completed it in 3 days. I want to break down this review down into story, characters, and gameplay. I also want to take into account the first game of this series since this is the sequel to that. If anyone is jumping into this game before EXPERIENCING the first game you will have wildly different views because you are being introduced to characters for the first time.

Story- I'd say about for the first 8 hours or so with thorough looting and scavenging for materials the story is fine. It transpired in a way that made sense. Then in the halfway point of this game and the pacing gets messed up in a way that makes the player feel like they just got sent back to level 1. Not only does it feel bad to feel like you have to start from the beginning, but it also feels completely irrelevant. They try to force you into seeing the bad guys story and fail at it. Now after that is over the pacing gets even worse where this a random break in the action and then you jump back into the action and the game ends in about an hour after that. The ending is probably worse than the pacing because basically it makes everything ellie went through in the entire game pointless, a waste of time.

Characters- I think this is the worst part about this game. All new characters introduced are bland and the game never does a good job of getting you to like these characters for who they are as people and not just because of their sexuality. This game seems to think that because of a character's sexuality they for some reason are filled with personality, they're not. Beliefs, morals, actions, behavior, inner thoughts, and relationships, things like this truly build a character. Whenever a character died in this game I never cared. The only time I ever felt like I cared about these characters were in flashbacks between joel and ellie.

Gameplay- it is identical to the first game. The AI is not very intelligent. If you're quick and don't stand idle behind the same area for too long you can run and gun situations very easily. The AI will lose your location if you just kill a target and run to a different hiding spot. I played on moderate difficulty which is the normal difficulty and I never found myself struggling to find resources as I checked everything whenever I could. The audio is terribly loud, I played using a playstation platinum headset I would sometimes confuse my own footsteps despite crouching and tilting my analog stick very slightly. Also if an enemy attacks you from behind prepare to take huge amounts of damage because the camera makes it impossible to see anything that isn't in front of you because of the position it is locked into. The gameplay is its only good quality I would say but only if you completely strip away the characters, motives, and story completely from your mind.

I would like to include that I had two other people I knew playing this game. One of them my cousin and the other my best friend since the 3rd grade. Both of them were ecstatic for this sequel preparing it to hit their GOTY for 2020. I luckily finished it before both of them so I hopped on PSN chat to hear the reactions of the ending from my best friend who was so frustrated that he called his other close friend to tell him not to buy the game. My best friend also experienced the feeling of wanting to stop playing halfway through the game because of what was happening but pushed through to see if it redeemed itself in the end. My cousin on the other hand, while he didn't like the second half, was not dreading it as much as my best friend and I did. He remained fairly positive until the end and when he watched the ending and the credits roll he said on his stream "I'm not gunna lie, I'm kinda salty"

We all loved the first game especially for the characters and the relationship between them. This second game comes nowhere near the level of the first game in that factor alone so if you're a fan of the first I highly doubt you will like this game by the time credits roll.

Do not believe people saying this game is getting review bombed. Undoubtedly some of the reviews are very salty remember that these were people who were huge fans of this series and these characters. They feel cheated, angry, whatever the case is. If you don't believe that I completed it you're welcome to check my trophy list at deadlysin12.

Final verdict: you're better off watching this game on youtube or twitch because you will not enjoy your experience by the time credits roll you will have regretted purchasing this game. I know I did and so did my best friend. This game is absolutely not a 10/10 or a masterpiece.

Where do I even begin...well this game is visually amazing they made it more open then the first game which is good don't get me wrong but the story it self was horrible...I wasn't happy how they lead Joel to his untimely end or how Ellie made her choice in the end I get they try to focus on revenge in this game by playing this new character but...I feel they could of done it better if that was the case I just hope the 3rd game, if they do make one is waaay better then this one looks like I'm going to lose that 20 and sell my copy on offer up and save another sucker from making the same mistake that I made. Nope, sure his death was coming but it could have been done 10 times better and his early death doesn't fit the tone when a veteran survivor trust some random person and goes to their friends place makes absolute no **** sense. I did like the settings in this new game would be great for factions, like the high rise constructions or the haven seraphite base. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay so first thing I will say is the parts that this game gets right are absolutely spot on. The graphics are stellar, the gameplay aswell (Although it is mostly like the first game except more violent).
But the story is an absolute mess! Yes I was passed when Joel was killed but not by the fact that he died it was how he was killed. They made his character and Tommy's character look like they were thick (If you played the originalnyou would understand).

They made Abbey look like a genuinly nice person and gave her everything. Ellie was made to look like a vile person just after revenge and took everything away from her.

I would go more in depth but to be honest this game is not worth the words, I'm surprised I've already written this much.

Like I said the Graphics and the fighting aswell as the crafting was amazing. But this is no good when the game is very story dependant and the story for me was a joke.

Overall, I would say this game is a bad idea with great execution.
On the technical level the game is quite amazing, super good looking and solid physics.
On the gameplay level, it can become quite repetitive and predictable at time. The AI is nothing to amazing, basically the same as in the first game. Even though there was some effort to upgrade the existing stuff from the first game

The AI is nothing to amazing, basically the same as in the first game. Even though there was some effort to upgrade the existing stuff from the first game they are still quite stupid, predictable and exploitable (stabbing all the enemy one by one in the same map corner and stuff like that).
The story is the real deal breaker which is a shame a game built around it.

It’s getting a low score because of a horrible plot and an even worse character death, used for the sole purpose of giving a reason for Ellie to go on another cross country adventure. Joel deserves better. Expand

As a huge fan of the first TLOU, I had very high expectations for the sequel that took 6/7 years to finish. I love the games that Naughty Dog puts out. I love the games that Naughty Dog puts out. I saw all the reviews that the game was getting and was impressed. June 19th came and I started playing at midnight on my digital pre-order copy. And boy was I disappointed. This game is by no means a 0/10. But it is also far from a perfect game. These game journalists should be ashamed of themselves. Seriously! I’ll start with the pros:

    - The graphics are beautiful. Some of the best this console generation has to offer.
    - The gameplay is good, not great, but good. - The gore and kills were very cool and very brutal. - Joel. Yes, Joel. The very little time he has on screen were great. The opening of the game and the flash backs of him were the best parts of the game in my opinion.
    - Sound and atmosphere were on point. No complaints there.

    Now the cons:

    - Very, very boring game. I was bored within the first 4 hours. Looking for materials and supplements and ammo and collectibles were like 70% of the game. I know the first game was like this but the level design is so big now it became very tedious and annoying. - The characters were terrible. Even Ellie was annoying me. Abby was a pain to play with. It was a cringe fest. Supporting characters were very average at best. Jessie was ok, Tommy too. Everyone else, terrible. - Characters appearing from thin air. I couldn’t believe how some characters just meet up with me out of nowhere. Like, where did you come from and how did you find me. Happens on like 3 occasions. Impossible. - The end. What a terrible ending. Has to be the worse revenge story ever. I just don’t understand how they thought people would like the end result. I would of rather Ellie die over how it turned out. Trash. Garbage!

Like I said. This isn’t a 0/10. Its decent, but has a lot of flaws. The hype over this game and fake reviews it got from journalists is what really hurts it. It is nowhere near a 10/10 or 5/5 or 100% score. It really isn’t. 4/10 from me. I was going to give it a 3 but the graphics and sound and atmosphere picked up most of the slack. Don’t buy this game brand new. If you really want to play it, buy a used copy. You’ll probably still feel like you wasted your money 25 hours later. I’ve deleted it from my PS4 and it will never be back.

Expand

    Atmosphere 10/10
    Controls 9/10
    Sound Design 9/10
    Enemy Design 6/10 Characters 6/10
    Presentation 6/10 Story 0/10

While the game is very beautiful and probably one of the best looking PS4 games out there. The atmosphere is dripping with amazing attention to detail. I mean from exploring abandoned cities and towns to sneaking your way through the woods and traveling across from seashore to seashore etc. There are many more different locations to explore but with caution. The controls are pretty well polished and easy to grasp aside from a few hiccups. The sound design is almost perfect. Those dang clickers. There are not enough enemy varieties IMO. Only the regular infected and the clickers are present with a new type of enemy which are forgettable and annoying at best. The characters are very boring and one sided. I mean I didn't get attached to a single character like in the previous game. The character building and progression was all over the place. I mean by the time you start liking a character then the game introduces new characters as story fillers. The presentation was not as impactful as in the original. I was never on the edge of my seat. Now the story..... well the story was completely bad. Now this is my review and opinion. Apart from time jumps which were very poorly done and out of place. I think they ruined the pace of the game. There was a certain plot point in which was the driving force behind the whole game direction. They tried something balsy but failed. I found myself annoyed and mad playing the game and by the time I finished, I literally didn't have that feeling of not wanting the game to end. I was glad when the game ended. Towards the end I felt the game was dragging and went on too long. In closing, I didnt enjoy this game as much as the first one. The graphics were amazing and the controls were easy to grasp but the story, presentation and characters were all letdowns for me. Also there were not enough enemy variety.

Probably the best graphics of video games history. Gameplays is similar to the previous game, but

It makes you feel bad about the decisions your favorite character do. The way the game presents the characters don't allow you to enjoy playing the game and liking those characters. The game forces a obvious message

If didn't played the first game, maybe you're gonna like. But if you did, i think it's difficult to enjoy playing it.

This game is gorgeous, so beautiful and I can't wait to see this tech on the ps5. The combat is, just the last of us part 1. Yeah it's good but I seen it all before. The story is good, but only between hours 5 and 14. After that it's not that great and the ending is absolutely horrible. Good job sony. This game shouldn't have existed.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
