    PROS:
    1. The graphics is top-notch.
    2. The cutscenes and voice acting is really good.
    3. The gameplay, though not really anything new or innovative, was still solid.

    CONS:
    1. The story and its direction.
    2. The characters and how they were portrait or lack there of.
    3. The story plot of revenge doesn't make any sense at the end.
    4. The entire setup and ending from part 1 was destroyed and disregarded in the first few hours.
    5. Everything in the trailers were a misrepresentation of the game.
    6. This game was more like a movie than a video game.

Overall, I did not enjoy the game. The story, it's direction, its pace and the direction of its characters were not enjoyable. The creator of the game said, there's no "fun" in this. And they were right. This game is not fun to play.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoiler I am a huge fan of the original game, got every trophy and consider it my favorite game. But The Last of Us Part 2 ruined the franchise for me. I admit i am only half way through the game and I am not mad they killed Joel, what I am mad about is how how they did it. He died out of character. He was always someone who was skeptical of strangers and tried his best to stay out of situations like he was in. But in part 2, he just walked right into a room knowing he probably has people looking for him after how many people he's killed in the past. Not only that but part 2 make you play as the person who kills Joel.... **** that. Every time I controlled Abby, i just wanted to quit the game. The only feeling I had for her was HATE. The things the game did good on, Graphics, kept the combat the same while introducing more variables to keep it interesting. But the pace was very off. There were too many collectibles and slow moving parts to keep the story interesting. Expand

Sin embargo en lo que flaquea mucho es en la historia y en los personajes, parece más the walking dead que the last of us, digamos bueno ya matan a Joel que la verdad estuvo super mal, ¿al final Ellie vengará su muerte no?! Pues ... No! We waited this to fulfill our longing but you killed main character third hour of game. OK, you can kill main character but it shouldn't be easy like that, eventually he is the master of this environment, era. In addition, you introduced us new characters but really are we supposed to sympathize Abby? She was cruel. We passed all places to kill Abby and we mercied at the end. I am disappointed,. I wish I had not bought the game.

Niel ruined it, Joel died for a meaningless shock value. They did terrible writing and made characters just for the hell of it.

Niel, you ruined the last of us, why did you do that?

Ellie lost her character, she did not progress, it was just a revenge story.. not like the last game where you had a game entered around the character's building up their relationship. I'm done, f this. But on a positive note, the graphics where good.

For the next 10 hours of the game you are forced to push yourself through one of the most tedious character arks of any game i have ever played. All combat had zero anxiety or stress as there is no incentive to want to survive. By the end of it you are forced to destroy everything you cherished from the first game. This event sounded questionable but I decided to wait for context like many of the critic reviews said to before I judged it. My thoughts on the game overall by the end was graphics 10/10, gameplay 9/10, story 3/10. The story just killed my enjoyment of The Last of Us Part 2 completely. It is so terribly written. There are some good moments, which is why the story gets a 3 and not a 0 but they in no way make up for the awful story choices that are made. Joel's relationship with Ellie is spat upon, characters make ridiculous choices, and the mystery woman, played by Laura Bailey, is, in my opinion, one of the worst video game character of all time. This character and the way she is portrayed is one of the big reasons why the story is so bad. Not only that but the ending is just awful. It completely undoes the message they were trying to tell and makes everything feel pointless. Again, the graphics and gameplay are amazing, but I just did not want to replay the game and witness such a terrible story. I returned the game yesterday. 4/10. The graphics, gameplay and some story elements are good but since the overall story is so important to The Last of Us Part 2 , and most of that story is horrible, I had to give it a 4. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I genuinely thought about giving it a 0 score, but the game actually serves its purpose of entertaining, since the mechanics, gameplay, graphics and the feeling of survival is well presented.

However, the disappointment is huge on the story, since Naughty Dog didn't just killed one of the most loved videogame characters in the last decade, but they literally spat on his corpse, not to mention that they forced us to play the second half of the game as a character we don't care about at all, and to top it, they want us to empathize with her and almost kill Ellie just because.
Of course, this was a game about vengeance, so it doesn't make any sense that Ellie forgives Abby in the end, since she already lost Dina, her integrity and killed hundreds just to stop over a dumb flashback.

They made a wonderful story in the first game, but this sequel is just a joke and craps on everything good this series had.

    Great videogame, TERRIBLE story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If Arthur Morgan was killed by Micah halfway through Red Dead 2 and I was forced to play as Micah afterward, I would have immediately stopped playing and done something else. I don't care how wonderful the game looks, technically sound it is, or enjoyable the gameplay is; the predecessor to this game was about the strong narrative and the characters. The sequel has little to do with the events from the previous game and nothing to do with the journey Joel's character went through as the protagonist. I can't help but think that Neil Druckman resented the fact that most fans of The Last of Us liked Joel the most, because his character was really done a disservice here. I also dislike the way this whole cycle of violence story is told. In a game like God of War, you have similar themes of revenge and violence, but Kratos is making an effort to change and to teach his son to be a better man than he was, while making plenty of mistakes along the way. This game, on the other hand, just bludgeons you with violence, cruelty and misery without any levity because cycle of violence. The conclusion for Ellie's character was just as unsatisfying and nonsensical as Joel's. I truly hope this trend of deconstructive storytelling doesn't destroy any more of the characters I'm invested in. Expand

I was a big fan of Naughty Dog. I finished all episode of Uncharted (except the one on PSV) and I really love the uncharted series. I also finished the last of us part 1 because I really like how Naughty Dog told story despite that I am not a fan of horror movies and games. And therefore I spent $69.99 to pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition of this game. HOWEVER, this game make me doubt if I am going to buy Uncharted 5 (presuming they will make Uncharted 5).

3 Point for the good graphic, 1 point for the average game-play, 0 point for the terrible story.

The story is terrible. They show no respect to the characters that the players love so much in part 1. And they show no respect to the players by forcing you to play as a character, who you will hate after witnessing what happen in the game, for over 10 hours.

In the last of us part 1, even if you do not think Joel's choice is correct, you can understand why he did that. Here, it is difficult for you to understand why the characters will do such thing in the story. Their behaviors did not fit in their characters. Sometime they behaviors even conflict with their other behaviors in the same game, and there are no ground for the changes.

    I am very disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I want to get this out upfront: my major problem with the game is that I was forced to play half of it as a character I didn’t care about at all and that I felt nothing for. The entire time I was just hoping I could go back to playing as Ellie. And you do come back to her—after 10 plus hours as Abby. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against new characters but I don’t think we needed a new playable one. In fact, I love Jesse, Dina, Yarra, and Lev. They all felt much easier to connect to than Abby, who feels like a weird attempt at an “Ellie 2.0,” just more physically imposing and less emotionally impactful. I’ve heard a few people say they loved Abby but that’s a sentiment that I personally can’t share. Similarly, I didn’t much care about Abby’s group of WLF friends; Owen felt one dimensional and he and Abby’s relationship didn’t resonate for me, likely due to a lack of chemistry between the actors. I never really connected to Mel or Manny either. Manny felt like the most charismatic but seeing him spit on Joel’s dead body kind of ruined any chance he had of winning me over. Let me also say this: I don’t mind that Joel died. I would, however, have liked to have seen it executed better for a more meaningful impact. A lot of the death in this game happens really quickly and then is kind of brushed over; I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to connect to Jesse only to have him shot in the face in a split second after walking through a door. I understand that this is supposed to convey a sense of reality; you don’t always see death coming and it can happen in an instant, no matter the context. But this is fiction and these are potentially great characters thrown away too soon for what feels like shock value. If we weren’t supposed to suspend our disbelief when it comes to death in video games then Joel falling on a rebar and living wouldn’t have worked in the first Last of Us. So why are fantastic characters dropping like flies only to let this bland one walk away at the end? To be fair, this game had some great moments, most of them in the first half. Ellie and Dina’s relationship has been my favorite in games, and media in general, in a long time. The natural chemistry they have and the incredible voice acting by Ashley Johnson and Shannon Woodward makes you feel for these characters the way we felt for Joel and Ellie in the first game. Troy Baker also does a phenomenal job, especially in the final flashback scene of the game where Joel is breaking down but fighting to hold himself together. You could feel the nuance in every voice crack, sigh, and sniffle. The thematic song thread Joel introduces at the beginning tugged at my heartstrings and every time it came back up throughout the story I could honestly feel a small bit of the first game’s spirit creeping into this sequel. The same can be said for the incredible Ellie and Joel flashback moments, each one giving us a glimpse at what we missed in the five year time jump between Part 1 and now. The game is undeniably visually stunning; the art direction is fantastic and every environment is unique and fascinating, down to the lighting. The gameplay is revamped and slightly expanded, allowing the player new methods of movement like a prone option for stealth and crevices to squeeze through to escape infected or get the drop on an enemy. The combat feels good and the impact is definitely felt with every punch you take and each one you deal. Shooting is more or less the same as the first game with bullet drop (and arrow drop). The upgrade paths are great but with the story split between two characters it’s seemingly impossible to upgrade everything in one go unless you have your resources setting set to “very light” so the game basically gives you loot everywhere you go. There is a new game plus option to keep all your upgrades while you play through again but I honestly don’t see myself playing more than once. I’m just not interested in sitting through Abby’s story a second time, not to mention the contrived plot points that exist solely to move the story in this specific direction. I personally don’t understand why this game is getting 10/10 scores or being touted as a “masterpiece.” Half of it was great—the other half felt like one of those movies that has you checking your watch every couple minutes. As this is a story-driven game, I have to dock a couple points at least for a poorly executed story with really good highlights. The gameplay is by far the best part but the fun of it is hindered when you don’t feel invested while playing as someone other than Ellie. Which, again, is half the time. I hope they end the franchise here because I just can’t see it regaining that spark that made it so special to begin with. Or next time just let me play as Ellie, please, for God’s sake. Expand

The Last of Us 2 makes meHold on here folks, I will try my best to give some genuine constructive criticism on this game. It's hard to see why people are upset when all the critical reviews don't really explain it, so allow me. I'll also say the good, the bad, the ugly. It's annoying to see a bunch of negative (and positive) reviews from people who have obviously never played the game. The Last of Us 2 makes me appreciate games like the first Walking Dead game, and movies like Logan, because they know how to send off a main character. The story was actually kind of bland? I did not expect this from Naughty Dog, we have seen the same revenge theme everywhere but for this game it is a chore to get through. It isn't even deep or well thought out, it's like a middle schooler could create a more complex theme. Yes, revenge is bad and hurts people around you. Not only is this generic and overplayed, but they made it as shallow and surface level as possible. They could have at least made it a little more complex, this is just bad writing. They had years. The gameplay is an improvement but is still repetitive, and the game is very long so it's actually kind of boring. Especially when you stop caring about most parts of the game when you realize how bad the story is. This is the first Naughty Dog game I've ever played where I wasn't wholly engaged. I don't know what happened. If someone told me that I would be checking my phone while playing a sequel to one of the most beloved games of all time, I wouldn't believe you. It almost seems rushed, I'd be fine with a revenge story if it wasn't so surface level and generic. The writing also took a step back. The first game felt like a movie with the smart dialogue, being constantly engaging, and having fleshed out characters. Elie doesn't have much of a personality anymore. Major characters died so suddenly and were never mentioned again, but they weren't well developed anyways so I didn't even remember some of their names, so whatever. Character development isn't really here either. I added an extra star for the amazing visuals and voice acting. That should be recognized. I also liked the representation of LGBT in the movie, as it didn't really interfere with the game and it was just nice to see. I will say though, the game spends more time on saying that Elie is lesbian and showing sex scenes than actually developing her (or anyone else's) character and personality, which was confusing to me. I don't have a problem with the characters not being likeable, I'm fine with that, they just aren't well developed and the whole thing was just very shallow. Nothing interesting at all. Even after the leaks I was expecting something at least a little bit good, I mean it's Naughty Dog. I was expecting some things to be surprising and divisive, but never would I think this would've been boring or badly written. If you actually watch some people play, many streamers have the "let's just get through this" attitude instead of the "I am loving this" attitude of the first game. Many have quit or talk about wanting to quit. It's rare to see them end streams early because they're just "bored," such as what PewDiePie did. This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a sequel to The Last of Us. Even if it was separate and called something else, this game would not be very good. It would not make the writing any better or the gameplay less boring. It's a competent game, it's just unremarkable. One of Naughty Dog's most bland games, it is sad to see such a beloved studio fall from grace like this because I'm sure many of the bad decisions here were made by just a handful of people. There is so much talent in that studio, and I still believe in them, so I am just going to pretend this game does not exist. Might be one of the biggest disappointments I have ever seen. When someone buys a PS4 and asks what games to get, you immediately recommend them the latest Naughty Dog game. But I would not recommend friends this game, not just people who were fans of the first, but even casual and unassuming gamers that just want to find a good game. This is not a good game and I am having a hard time understanding why some people would rate this higher than a 7/10. There's no substance or anything even engaging in this game. I came in here with an open mind and there are some pretty obvious flaws. Expand

Theres only one thing that could've changed this entire game and that's choice, I can deal with joel being brutally murdered but to then force the player to just let it go in the end completely ruined the entire game for me. What was the point of the whole journey of revenge if you're not going to finish what you started. Now I understand what the devs were going for, a story about the cycle of revenge and in the end ellie breaks the cycle by forgiving Abby. However having spent an entire game previously playing as joel and to kill him off so early in part 2 and to just expect players to be ok with letting Abby go just because she saved a kid, no for me I wouldve drowned Abby given the choice and avenged joel. Then the ending wouldve made sense, Ellies in the house trying to play the guitar. But she cant because shes missing her fingers and so she leaves it behind, that would symbolize that she has avenged joel but at a cost and now it's time to move on. But nope this "dark" vengeance driven game has to have a happy ending where everyone but joel gets to live, oh and jessie doesnt but ah no one really cares about him . I would much rather have this whole game not happen rather than keeping Abby alive for what I can only assume will be a spin off game or sequel it's just such a shame naughty dog went in this direction with the story. The gameplay however is brutal, gritty and very tense and the graphics are some of the best I've ever seen but those amazing features cannot carry a game that's premise is storytelling and on that front in my opinion it has fallen short I love the representation of minorities in this game and the accessibility has to be commended but there is noticeable intrusions with this like how male characters will not open doors for you, you have to do it yourself they'll just wait by the door because god forbid if they opened the door for you. Also little things like when owen helps Abby up a ledge she pulls a face behind his back as if to represent she can do it herself she doesnt need his help, but when dina helps ellie up she says thanks and smiles just little things like that idk maybe I'm reading to much into that. To summarise looks great, plays great (although gets a little repetitive in places), however the story falls short because of its conclusion and if they had given a choice to players whether to kill or spare Abby it wouldve solved the whole issue because it plays to both sides but as someone who wanted to fully avenge joel I was not satisfied. There are maybe other solutions like structuring the sorry differently but still a sequel that delivers in every way apart from the story. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Deceitful marketing, lousy writing and boring gameplay encapsulates an otherwise gorgeous looking game. There are numerous plot holes, like Deana magically surviving with no explanation, and no one seeming to care about Jesse being gunned down. Trailers told us that Joel would be with us on the journey but an hour in and he’s gone. The writers then take the hilarious decision to force the player to play as Joel’s killer for 10+ hours and try to gain your sympathy for her.

And to top it off the ending is one of the most unsatisfying I’ve ever seen. To start , Abby confronts Ellie after she killed all of Abbys friends and has no one left, but decides to spare her for no apparent reason. Then when it seems Ellie has finally got revenge and killed Abby after killing a huge amount of enemies, risking her and her friends lives and travelling all across Seattle, she spares her. Naughty dog clearly thought the player would’ve gained sympathy for Abby and would be happy that neither her or Ellie were killed, but that is far from the truth.

The Last of Us is my favourite game of all time and I’ve never been this excited for a sequel, 7 years I’ve waited just to be disappointed and angry after playing what felt like a chore for several hours. I do not recommend this game to anyone except hard core Naughty dog fans but I’m sure they will be just as disappointed as I was when the credits roll.

The first game was what cemented to me that video games could tell a moving story. Focus less on the gameplay because the message and story were just that good, and be viable. So, if that’s your formula and the story isn’t good... you’re left with this, the last of us part 2. The plot is full of holes. The story almost completely ignores the emotional attachment to the characters they completely nailed in the first one. The story is a jumbled mess of flashbacks at times that make little sense. If you’re looking for quality story telling to the next part of what happens to Joel and Ellie, I’m afraid you’ll be let down. I don’t know what else to say, how do you go from making one of the most consistent, gritty, popular, thought provoking games of all time to this mediocre, occasionally fun nonsensical story? Expand

Jessie is just their to impregnate Dina and nothing more but to make a family for Ellie and Dina, Joel saves Abby and she kills him with no hesitation,no remorse, tommy is basically useless and just there for no reason.he is saved for convenience to plot to tell Ellie where Abby is, if tommy had no other purpose but to tell Ellie where Abby is he’d be dead. The men are just seen as useless or plain evil in this game and it’s disgusting. Personally it’s amazing, how people don’t catch on that some feminist like Anita sharkeishan are not good for the lgbtq community or hollywood or even any community because it’s deeper than equality it’s just hate towards men and carries the same weight as racism.it makes me cry that tlou2 had to suffer from hate in the real world to get covered by “wokeness, or diversity, or whatever they try to mask this ugliness with” Expand

Don't listen to the critic reviews. This game is a POOR sequel to a beautiful story. If you're thinking about playing, reading or watching through the story, don't. For the Last of Us franchise, in this entry's case, ignorance is bliss.

I avoided spoilers and played the game, the moment I finished the game, I was sad. I tried to convince myself that the game was actually good and that was why I was sad. The more I thought about it, the more I realized I was lying to myself. I was jaded because I realized we lost what could have been, the potential squandered. This game didn't need to exist, in fact it detracts from the first one because now you know what happens, every time I think of The Last of Us part 1, my nostalgia is interrupted by a wave of resentment for what happens next in the installment. This. Game. Didn't. Need. To. Be. Made. I've never regretted playing a video game, usually I become wistful and remember all the fun I had, wishing I could forget and replay it again. In this case, I regret playing it at all. Gone are the heartwarming moments from the first game, gone are the character developments made, replaced by hours of just purely exhaustive violence, I love a good blood splat but damn this game drags it out for so long without a break.

Characters are built partway only to be killed and the emotional consequence of their death is explained 8-7 hours later, but by that point the player doesn't care because A. I've brutally killed hundreds of these enemies and B. it was such a long time ago, I don't even remember why they were significant. The revenge plot is handled poorly, even Destiny 2, known for it's mediocre story, the Destiny 2 Forsaken DLC had a better revenge plot and a better send off for the beloved character that was killed. Now that I think about it, the Last Of Us 2 has the almost exact same premise as Forsaken even down to the "Revenge has consequences" theme. It's sad that Neil Druckmann won't acknowledge criticism and instead is making fun of people like me. He is touting this game as "art". However, slapping an "art" label on something doesn't mean it should automatically be revered, art can be bad and in this case I truly think it is. I wish Naughty Dog released a DLC that's just a 20 second scene, with Ellie waking up from a nightmare and saying "huh thank god it was just a dream", because then ND would have a shot of remaking it into something incredible. Sadly, that won't happen. This game is video game's equivalent to Game of Thrones Season 8.

I'm getting tired of my favorite mediums of entertainment being hijacked and turned into a means to push a political agenda. Yes this game does that too, I have no ill will towards women and members of the LGBTQ+ community, and the majority of players don't either. The popularity around Games such as Horizon Zero Dawn, the Resident Evil series, hell even the Uncharted series and the first Last Of Us proves that. Just because we don't like this specific medium that incorporates these elements, doesn't mean we're bigots and it's not a valid justification for why the story was poorly made. My favorite character in the game was a member of these groups and his story was compelling. Games are mediums through which the player can escape reality, if you're going to shove in your political ideology and agenda, you have to make that person's story as compelling as everyone else's and not let it be their defining trait, If anything it does a disservice to people it is meant to represent. This is show not tell 101.

If you want a heartfelt story about a parental figure and the moral ambiguities about your character's actions, play God of War or the first Last of Us. If you want a story that tells an underlying story about the pitfalls of revenge and people trying to better themselves through struggle, play Red Dead Redemption 2. If you want to remember The Last of Us as a good story, don't play this one, it leaves you tired with a foul taste in your mouth. Ironic that this story is about loss and I too have felt loss, just not in the way ND intended.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay where do I start, rating this game a 4/10 is sad. It truly breaks my heart to rate this game a 4/10, but it truly deserves this rating. This franchise is legendary and it's sad that their second installment of the game is a big disappointment. This game technically is amazing, it has jaw-dropping graphics, incredible animations, awesome cut scenes, great fighting mechanics, and acting. But where this game goes wrong is it's story. Since this is a story driven game, you'd expect the game to have an amazing story just like it's predecessor, The Last Of Us 1. Unfortunately though, the story of The Last of Us Pt 2 incredibly fails expectations. The first installment of this franchise was iconic and it was written perfectly to show human emotion and hope. The second installment falls into a terrible cliche of revenge. The revenge cliche starts with the death of Joel, he is tortured and killed by Abby right in front of Ellie. As a fan of the game, I was incredibly mad at how they killed Joel! The way they killed Joel was an amazing example of lazy writing, Joel would have never ever put himself into that situation in the Mansion. Joel would never be stupid enough to say his real name in front of random people he's never met. I mean for Christ's sake, Joel didn't even trust Ellie in the beginning of The Last of Us 1, why would he trust random strangers? it's the apocalypse! It's clear that Joel would have never put himself in that situation, so why did he? Lazy writing!! So after this event, Ellie goes on a killing rampage to find Abby. Ellie kills all of Abby's friends but never finds her, so Tommy suggests just leaving and letting it go. She agrees until Abby comes out of nowhere and kills Jesse, she then threatens Tommy's life at gunpoint. Abby points the gun at Ellie, the scene cuts and then we as gamers are forced to play as Abby for 10 hours to know her backstory. Naughty Dog, we don't care about Abby! The point of the game was to kill her, so why would you think it'd be a great idea to make us play as the woman who mutilated Joel, for ten hours? This ten hour gameplay with Abby was so boring, and I resented every second I had to play with her. That isn't the worst part though, Naughty Dog makes you beat the living **** out of Ellie! I really don't understand how this game was approved! Anyways, Abby lets Ellie live again, Ellie trys to forget about what Abby did, but she cant, so she once again goes to find her, and once she finds her, (after killing multiple innocent people) she lets her go! Hahahahahaha this game was just pointless! There was no meaning, just death! This game had a horrible intro, horrible plot, horrible character arch, and horrible ending! They made us sit and wait for seven years for this poorly wrote game! What's crazier though is how Naughty Dog is responding to criticism. They are calling every low rating a bot, or a misogynistic person, or a transphobic person, or a homophobic person. Wake up Naughty Dog! We are none of the above! I support LGBTQ+, and I'm not misogynistic! When woman are put in lead roles I don't mind, it's the same as if they were a male. Ellie is one of my favorite characters in all of gaming, same with Clementine from Telltales's The Walking Dead! We're not mad about Ellie's sexuality, we're mad about how Joel died, and how poorly written the story is. Expand

Without giving any spoilers characters act way outside of their personalities and it feels like someone wanted to retcon the first game. Destroyed the story in a story driven game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us (TLOU) was one of my favorite games of all time. Not necessary for the game play or the graphic but for the story. I remember playing the game over and over again and thinking that one day I wanted to be a father (even if it means I have to adopt) when before I wasn't to sure about it. And I remember while play Uncharted 4 saying to my friends that I was looking forward to if they made a Last of Us 2, that the game play would be a lot more fun & enjoyable with a great story that I would love. Praising Neil & It would be my favorite game/experience (because that how I tell people of what TLOU) ever! But, The Last Of Us Part II. Man, The Last Of Us Part II. I don't know if I supposed to hate this game and that's why it was made or what but, man it's so sad. When I finished the game I went into deep depression because of what just happened. Lucky I have people in my life who care for me and notice what was going on and helped me. Unfortunately, some people don't have that. And that worries me.

    -----SPOILERS AHEAD-----

The first half of this game I actually enjoyed. I understood why Joel died (To carry the plot) and although I don't think the Joel from TLOU would of been in that situation, 4 years has passed. So maybe He's gotten softer now. Maybe he doesn't have that brick wall up that he build after Sarah's death because he has Ellie. Although I don't think that true and still think he wouldn't tell them his real name, I went along with it, if it meant I got to Kill Abby and everyone in that room. When Day 3 started to end I was started to feel like it was okay if Abby got away because Dina need to go home and I actually liked Dina and Ellie together. I though they were cute together and wanted to see them make it home together. Then Abby kills Jesse! And they it goes black and I thought that the game was over implying that Abby Killed Ellie.
And then you start playing a flashback as Abby and I was confused. Then you played Seattle Day 1 as Abby and I was even more confused. The only thing about Abby that I liked is that she's played by Laura Bailey. And I like Laura Bailey so I kept play thinking that it might be a short section and once I'm done I can get back to Ellie and Kill her. But, I picked up some pills thought that's weird, Saw that she had a skill chart... and didn't want to play anymore knowing that I was gonna have play as Abby. The character that killed Joel, my father and friend. Someone That I grew to love. But, I forced myself through it thinking that as long as get to Kill her okay. So I did and had fun with it, Killing her in every way possible saying, " I like that ending.". Jumping of cliff, getting her head blown off, ect. I did enjoy the Critical Roll Easter Egg to say the least. I did like learning more about the Scars, Lev & all but, nothing you do can make me like Abby. Defiantly not forcing me to watch her have sex. Like WTF. Then you get back up to the cut scene where Abby kills Jesse so I was like finally I get to kill her. NO! You play Abby and have to try and Kill Ellie. Right After she "Killed" Tommy! I Was Pissed! I couldn't believe it. I thought that it might be a meta thing and your supposed to die so I ran at Ellie for her to kill me. NOPE! You have to win. But, you don't which I'm okay with because it means that Ellie lives.
So far, I've enjoyed half the game and pushed myself through the second half just so I could not kill Abby. But, That's okay because Ellie and Dina now are living life together on a farm with a kid and I'm happy. Sad that Abby got to live but, Ellie has a new lie with a loving wife and a child that she says she's gonna teach guitar, just like how Joel taught her. But, Ellie's PTSD and Tommy (Not Dead somehow) get the best of her. She has to kill Abby. I understood why but, the cost I think is something that Ellie wouldn't give up. Ellie has always done everything to protect the people around her and the people she loves. And for her to give all that up to kill Abby seems not like Ellie to me. I mean she has a kid and a Wife. But, I got to kill Abby so I was like okay whatever, lets kill her! But, you don't! During the fight, which is stressful for me because I'm spamming the f**k out of my square button to the point where I though I was gonna brake my controller, You get to a part where your holding her head under the water (continuing to spam my square button even when there isn't a prompt) and your about to do the deed. Then Ellie see's Joel and stops. WHAT! At that point I was done! Played through the last bit, lost my wife and my kid, couldn't play the guitar. And that's the end. I sat there through the credits just disappointed, sad, angry & annoyed that I played it. I digitally pre-ordered the game and it was my first game I digitally pre-ordered and I'm sad this a bought it.
To concluded, I didn't enjoy my time playing TLOU2 and my favorite part is the museum flashback part. I'm gonna go play Spider-Man now and be happy.

No issue with joel dying but the way they did it just sucks so bad, and them trying to make abby(joel's killer) and her crew likable by having friendships i was laughing so hard, andwas think nobidy gives a **** about this new characters when the first major thing they did was kill the main character of the first game add the fact that abby basically condemned ellie by telling her father to kill her she was the reason her father is dead, sad part is you dont even get to kill abby in the end, ellie gets bad endings period what ever you do Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Amazing graphics, but this is normal is ps4-ps5 you can not wait graphics from ps1. The gameplay improve a lot that is great, HOWEVER almost every fan loved this game for the history and characters, we didn't play the first part to save the freaking planet, we did it in order to see the history between Ellie and Joel, when we saw and felt how Joel retake a lost special feeling when travel with Ellie and know that he doesn't want to lose his new family. If I have to be honest I was afraid because I couldn't find the way to explain a new plot in order to justify a second part for this game. Now I know this was the worst way to do it, we literally have to play with the damn killer, and you try .. no, you make the player take some kind of empathy to this character and it doesn't work. At the end Ellie lost everything, the last chapter when Ellie went to California in order to find Abby was the worst idea I ever see; Ellie didn't reach her goal (well, she does, but at that point anything didn't have a sense. That fight was bland for me), and she end's alone (WTF).....
I think they did this part after see they screw up at beginning. Literally 60% of history are flashbacks that are not flash (bad joke I know)....
They show us characters without relevance and poor development that as you know if you played they died in bland way....
SUMMARY, is a great game if you really don't care the plot, sadly this game for the most of us is no just the graphics.

My experience of the game, My first review

    Pro's
Graphics are incredible 9/10 seem some bad textures here or there.
Voice work is amazing 8/10 as some lines are delivered badly.
Motion Capture 8/10 as some areas some capture expirations are horrifying to watch or like Abby in one scene looks like brick.

    Cons
The gameplay 4/10 it's boring i was struggling to push myself I woke up wanting to reformate my PS4 hard drive then play it was ok for the first game as I wanted to get to the next scene so I pushed my self more and more and was enjoying it. but this game I could not after the first 2hrs I wanted to put the game down and just jump back on my pc.

The story 3/10 the problem is seen as major plot points are dropped and charters don't act how they would truly act. I won't go into spoilers but Abby's character does not make me care about her I wanted to just jump off a cliff and had more fun when I died in stupid ways.

    *spoilers*
The plot is focused on revenge and how the cuticle just keeps going until someone ends it. but Abby gets away scotfree Abby loses what nothing really but Ellie loses Joel loses her girlfriend loses her fingers and ability to play the guitar. it feels like in the end she has nothing and Abby has everything. the last fight was Ellie finding Abby tied up left to die Ellie cuts her down and proceeded to have a brutal fistfight and at end of fight Ellie starts to drown Abby but lets her go at last second and lets her drive away with the boat. this fight is stupid if Ellie had drowned Abby who would know that Ellie did it. Abby was left to die tied up on a pole with others. The reason I say this is because people's argument is Abby's friend will hunt down Ellie. but why how would they know it was Ellie. They cant for all they know she drowned after trying to escape, died because of her injuries or starvation, and ended up in the water.
another point I want to call out is Ellie can forgive a person who caved in Joel's skull basically her father with a golf club but can't forgive a man how made her sandwich and she called it a bigot sandwich even though he apologized to her and made it as a gift. it seems like to many political points were thrown into this game. it's more point-scoring like they made a list of political point tweeter and media can get behind and just shoved them in
LGBTQ+ as main characters, Trans sex scenes, man-hating female empowerment.
There's nothing wrong with these things but there more shoehorned into the game

If you herd about the behind the scenes of the game I think it explains everything they burnt out there staff so much with crunch they ran out of people in the industry to work for them as they had to grab film VFX students to work for them as no veterans or anyone else wanted to. there are reports and testimonies from the dev hoping the game will fail so the crunch will end.

    My final score is 4/10
The graphics and voice work and motion capture are amazing all together deserves a 9/10
but the main thing you're doing for 20hrs+ is the gameplay and its boring combat and stealth sections and AI pathing is terrible 4/10
and last the story I have already scratched the surface as I'm too tired to talk anymore about it anymore 3/10

I hope you enjoyed reading my review.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There are several good qualities about this game in regard to level, sound, and graphic design. There are also some really heartwarming scenes between Joel and Ellie, though in rather drawn out sequences mostly void of any action. The main problems however - which overbear any redeemable quality - are the direction of the plot along with the decisions made by each character.

Most rational fans understood that Joel was going to die, but there were a million other ways it could have happened and still retained the game’s realism. Instead, they made Joel and Tommy out to be a couple of dumbass amateurs in the process. Not only do players hate Abby at this point, but they are then forced to play as her for the next several hours, learning her backstory, with some shallow attempts to draw out some empathy for her character. Once again, there are some pretty engaging moments with her and Lev, etc, but overall, it feels pretty dragged out and I honestly couldn’t care for her. I would have much rather preferred playing as Tommy for the second half of the game, or, you know, have Joel die much later and play a significant portion as him..but whatever...this game fell flat in its most important aspect (Storytelling), and that is a huge disappointment.

Don’t get me wrong, the graphics were great, the gameplay was fun, and the controls were good as well, but what makes a naughty dog game a naughty dog game is the story, and the sequel to one of the greatest masterpieces of all time fell so terribly short. You can’t kill off the main character and expect the player to be sympathetic to the killer. The plot just didn’t line up, especially since Joel would never give his name up so easily and be so trusting. The should have just taken this game back to the drawing board. As a fan, I’m honestly really hurt that the franchise that affected my life so much is now one the biggest disappointments I’ll ever have to know. Ellie and Joel didn’t feel like video game characters to me in the first game, they felt like real people. But in tlou2, it just seemed like they were lacking in that connection with the player. The only way they could come back from this is if it was all a dream. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was a big fan of TLOU1 so I’m disappointed with how TLOU2 has turned out. I will list my reasons for not liking this game.

    1. The game is many hours too long, and becomes repetitive and boring because of it.

    2. They make Joel and Tommy dumb, by having them go back with a stranger to meet more strangers. Then tell these strangers their names, their relation, where they live, invite them over, all to these complete strangers who are armed and outnumber them. Along with Joel and Tommy knowing Joel could be wanted because of what he did in TLOU1.

    3. The game tries to tell you Abby is nice and empathetic in her flashback scenes, yet when she reaches Joel (chronologically after the game tells you she’s nice) he saves her. She then proceeds to shoot him, and then violently beat him to death with a golf club, even in front of Ellie. Abby was also gonna kill Dina knowing that she was pregnant. So all this just invalidates what the game tried to tell us about Abby, and why we should like her.

    4. We are forced to play as Abby (Joel’s killer) for half the game. Joel was a loved character, and the vicious death he got, and the literal spitting he got, along with making us play as his killer, is a huge disservice to what he was to fans.

    5. By the end, Ellie reaches Abby who is tied up. She cuts her down and let’s her walk to a boat, simply to then attempt to kill her then. Why not do it when she was tied up? They fight, and Abby bites off two of Ellie’s fingers. Ellie is close to killing Abby when she has a vision of Joel. No words of wisdom, just Joel playing a guitar. She then let’s Abby live and go. To me, that vision along with having her fingers bit off mere seconds ago, would of reignited Ellie’s anger, and made her follow through with killing Abby. But no. Ellie then heads home to find Dina gone, and she’s all alone. Abby got her revenge, saved her friend, and kept all body parts. While Ellie lost all her friends, Dina, Joel, her revenge, and her fingers. Tommy is also injured. You don’t feel satisfied, you don’t feel like you achieved anything at all. It’s just pointless.

I could talk about the DMCA abuse, double standard with risqué scenes, and manipulation with the trailers, but I’ll keep this about the game itself. So that’s it, very disappointed with a lot of things. The graphics and voice acting is good, but for me, there’s far too many issues for me to enjoy it. THE END

The story and the character development that were the richest part of the franchise just disappeared. The fact that there were so many plot wholes and so much incoherence on the development of the story is infuriating. I cloud not mind the fact that Joels dies, I honestly could, but to TURN HIM INTO A VILLAIN that's where you lose me. To degrade him and his essence the way they do is just disgusting. I am not saying that I am mad about him dying, but THE WAY that is what makes me mad. Then they put these flashbacks that just made me sad and angry because I KNOW I won't see him again. Then, the fact that Ellie literally looses her essence and that they try to make us see her as the enemy? like Abby is a good person?!?! like what the hell!!!??? And the next thing I am saying is WHY I HATED THE WHOLE GAME. They made us play like 12 hours of Ellie, we see her do things that are wrong, she tortures, she kills, she gets herself in this revenge mode that blinds her of her principles and moral. THEN WE HAAVE TO PLAY 10 HOURS AS ABBY, an awful human being that just killed Joel, that doesn't regret anything she does. And we are supposed to feel empathy for her? like she is a good person? she thinks that because life hit her hard, she has an immunity card that gives her the right to act the way she does. She doesn't regret killing or torturing or simply putting people at risk. And this is the part where Ellie is different. We see REGRET and SADNESS and ANGER towards everything she does, she KNOWS its wrong. And that is because of Joel, all the things that he taught her, because she becomes the human being he wanted her to be, a good human in the messed up world the live in. Thats why we see remorse in her actions. We see that she feels sick because of what she does. And all those moments when she acts like a "crazy person" are because of the emotional state she is in, she is in greave, she is blinded because of all those emotions, and most of the things that she does are in self defense!. Also, She defends her friends and would never turn her back on them. Abby doesn't care, she is a selfish, badly developed character. Joel and Ellie deserved more and that is just a FACT. I feel so bad for giving this score and this review, but this game is so bad that I just have to. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have never reviewed a game before like this and actually created this account just to do this. The last of us part 2 is as poorly written as it is beautiful. After completing the very lengthy story of the game I truly still can’t comprehend why the writers of this game chose to treat these beloved characters with such disrespect. Joel’s death is something I won’t even get into because of how obvious it is on how disrespectful and poorly thought out it was. The rest of the story on the other hand is possibly the worst narrative I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. The story follows a revenge plot with no pay off mixed in with a confusing attempt to make the player play as and sympathize with the very person that committed the heinous act of brutally murdering Joel and other characters during the story. Throughout this time playing as Abby (which was nearly if not half of the game) I had zero empathy for her and her group of friends and was honestly just bored and not wanting to continue through the story. This boredom was also attributed to the games poor pacing as it would constantly throw you into intense pivotal scenes only to pull you into a flashback from years before. As much of a massive fan as I am of the original game I have never felt so disappointed and utterly betrayed as I have after experiencing the last of us part 2. This in my opinion even with the success in sales will forever be one of the biggest disappointments in gaming history. Expand

Abby beats Joel to death with a golf club two hours into the game... you proceed to go to Seattle as Ellie and kill all of Abby’s friends but not Abby. You then are FORCED to play as Abby for TEN HOURS and you have to FIGHT ELLIE. Later on as Ellie you have a farm with Dina and you have Jessie’s baby. Tommy shows up and shows Ellie where Abby is. She travels all the way from Wyoming to Southern California just to beat the **** out of Abby but let her live because apparently killing the person who beat Joel to death with a golf club in front of you is wrong (the game tries to justify Abby’s actions by making the doctor you killed as Joel at the end of the first game her father but that’s just lazy writing). Ellie then goes back home to find that Dina and the baby are gone and then the game just ends. You really couldn’t have tried harder to ruin a great game franchise Neil. Have you not learned that inserting politics and forced inclusion into your game damns it? You deserve to be fired for your idiocy and never show your face in the gaming world again. In the end I’m both upset and angry about the amount of time we waited for this game but just to receive a terrible story full of forced inclusion and identity politics. After playing this I had a moment of happiness because I thought I saw everything come full circle and saw a beautiful story. It was only then I realized I was in denial.
I knew Joel was gonna die, I think most fans knew it was coming and how it was gonna happen, but not so quickly in the game. After looking back at the trailers I noticed that I was lied to. We saw videos of Joel and Ellie 4 years older only to find out that they were changed in the game as flash backs, and they did this to look like we were gonna play another adventure game with Joel and Ellie. Basically, we fans were tricked by Neil Drunkman, cause he knew if fans knew what was actually gonna happen in the game’s story narrative then no one would buy it.
Instead we got a game that has our favorite character killed off in the first 2 hours, and then play as Ellie for the next 12 hours. But Naughty Dog did something risky and did not realize that it was gonna ruin the game (somehow). You play as Joel’s killer for over 10-11 hours!
Neil Drunkman thought it was a good idea to play as Abby, the person that tortured and brutally killed the most beloved character in Naught dog history. Why?
I have never played a game just to watch my character die in multiple ways to feels satisfied. Abby makes me never want to finish this game ever again. She had a very good reason to kill Joel, we all know that Joel has done horrible things and knew one day it was gonna kill him one day. But we care about Joel just like Ellie.
Like Ellie we love and care about Joel and watching Abby kill him makes me sick, and like Ellie I can’t forgive Abby, I can understand, but I can never forgive. No matter how many times we watch Abby save people, or show how well liked she is by others in her community, she still killed someone we loved and she will always be hated for that. You can give me the best graphics in video game history, you can give me gameplay mechanics that are performed perfectly, but none of that matters when you give a story that I never want to finish ever again. We fans were lied to, and I don’t know about other Naughty Dog fans, but I have lost all trust in this company, they got my money for the last time. I will no longer support a company that lies to fans with false gameplay advertised throughout the past 2 years.
Don’t give these lying **** any more money. They need to understand that they **** up and need to get their **** straight, and never have Neil Drunkman write or direct another game. There’s lot of other things (story wise) I can complain about but Abby is the #1 thing wrong with this game.

Anything higher than a 4 is people feeling sorry for Naughty Dog. If any other dev took the horrible risks Naughty Dog did with this game people will be going crazy and bashing them for it. But since its Naughty Dog its ok?? Bump that!! This game was horrible. Graphics was the best part about this game. Not because it looks realistic but because how much detail was put into it. But since its Naughty Dog its ok?? Bump that!! This game was horrible. Graphics was the best part about this game. Not because it looks realistic but because how much detail was put into it. The gameplay is pretty much the first one just reworked a little bit. But the story is probably the worst Ive seen in this gen. The characters were unrealistic. This game is a nightmare. Its not fun even if you enjoy the horrible story, its not fun, Its just boring and full of depression. Im so disappointed in Naughty Dog. Instead of making a game with a good story its a game full of shock factor and wanting you to feel sad and depressed. Why?? The first one helped me battle depression, it brought me out of a bad time in my life. This one will push you deeper into darkness. It doesnt even end on a good note. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you haven’t seen the leaks just go in to the game completely detached from elie and joe keep an open mind and played it as a game not so much for the story like the first one. The last of us 1 is very special to me it was my first game after 10 years out of the scene of gaming due to girls fast cars motorcycles ect. I came back as a grown adult and gaming was completely different from my old days and fell in love with tlou1 after 7 years of waiting for a sequel I am extremely disappointed with the story and mainly the story game play is a little better the the first and the graphics omg naughty dog is just on a league of its own joe dying was expected bit the way it was done mmm why and the part that kills the game for me is you have to play as abby, really? You play as the person who brutality killed your favorite character im not a masochist or a psychopath who would want to do that the woke messages in the game doesn’t bother me its just the story and we won’t get yo play as joe ever again that is depressing Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
