This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The downfall of The Last Of Us Part II is in its foundation. The developers thought that The Last Of Us was all about idealogy and philosophy. This is not entirely wrong as that aspect of the game was huge in the original. Although what really drove the first game was the relationships each character has with each other. Joel, Ellie, Sarah, Marlene, Tess, Bill, Sam and Henry are all connected naturally. The ideas the first game presents builds these relationships stronger. However in the second game the ideas it's trying to present compromises the relationships the game has; effectively taking away the game's essence. This is true as most relationships in the game felt forced. Majority of it felt like the developers were trying to reignite the spark they made with Riley and Ellie's in Left Behind. Sadly playful banters and meaningful scenes will not be effective without grounded reason in their relationship. The game did not show or explain why Dina liked Ellie or why Abby and Owen are in love; they just are. The Last of Us Part II also takes deaths and its shock value for granted as many deaths in the game were purely for shock value. Some examples are the deaths of Jessie, Owen, Mel and Yarah. I find it hard to see the reason to kill these characters apart from surprising the player. In the first game deaths of characters had meaning in them such as the deaths of Tess, Marlene, Sarah and Sam and Henry's. These deaths hold shock value but also holds meaning and reason to it. This shows the lack of priority the second game has for characters. If anything the game prioritizes Abby's character the most as her story tries its best to make her sympathetic to the player. Which I believe is the reason why many who play the game despises the character of Abby. Abby felt like she was forced to be in the game and that the developers were forcing the players to like her. The Last of Us Part II had a promising concept of seeing the sides of the people Joel and Ellie crossed agaisnt. This concept, sadly, was poorly executed. The community wanted a sequel to The Last of Us Part II. Which was supposedly a story now revolving on the choices the characters made in the original and its impact on the characters; especially Joel's choice. Although it was touched by the second game through its flashbacks, it really did not do anything significant to the main plot and was there to let the players feel teased of what could have been the true sequel. The best parts of the game were undoubtedly the flashbacks as it is the only part which really captures the essence of The Last Of Us. Despite having great graphics and ideal gameplay for the genre it is not enough to save The Last of Us Part II from having a low rating. As games like this are played for the story and not for the gameplay. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I bought this game and played the 40+ hours of the Story. The Story honestly has no purpose. The game was very predictable. Indoor areas you fought infected and outside area Scars or the WLF.

The game is fun until you play as Abbey. You really can’t enjoy playing with her, because you hate her the entire time for killing Joel. That goes for her friends as well. Honestly this game has no emotional connection to any of the characters. All the new characters have no character development. Their character development is getting revenge on Joel for saving Ellie. I just can’t see a point or a conclusion on why this game exists. The game literally total pointless story about revenge. I’m not sure if I’m stupid but what was the point they were trying to get across.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hmm...Where should I start... I preodered the game at first day of preoder-openning. I started the game at 0:00 19th. I completed it in 4 days. And I should say that it was quite the expirience.
I rated The game by 4 out of 10, I really like 4/10 of this game. You may say, I loved it. Gameplay, graphics, all of it worked greatly with immersion, with empathy for Ellie. I went in this crusade for revenge. But, when somebody made you play as the most hateful charecter in the game, and somebody tried to manipulate you to love her, then I just snapped, all gameplay went to abyss of unpleasant time consuming event.
And I was stunned how much of game perception depended of empathy for character. And that's why I write this review.
I think, that making Abbie/Lev pair an analog of Joel/Ellie pair is not that good of an idea. Becouse Abbie killed Joel, Jessie, almost killed pregnant Dina (not by accident by the way), and all of it opposed to heartfull relationships of player with Joel/Ellie.
And result of this poor plot choice is hours of gameplay, I hardly crawled through. May be story of itself is great, characters arcs, redemption, even representation is here, but that didn't work for me couse of existence of the first game. Funny fact that LoU2 would not work without first game either.
So I really wanted just tell that when you're making the game so mush immersive on already existed fanbase, you should understand what players want more: deep dramatic story or justice for their beloved characters.
    I am for the lattest.
P.S. My first public review ever) Just wanted to share my thoughts.

I think there are some characters that you can't kill in a story, when you kill them the whole core of the series dies.
imagine like walking dead kill, Rick Grimes!
they removed Rick Grimes from the show but they didn't kill him.
other than the core of the stories, you can kill anyone. like Sarah from last of us 1 which it was great writing or again, for example, walking dead which they killed a lot of important characters from the story
you can make an example like this in every tv show and stories.

now for me, this game doesn't represent last of us anymore, because the core is dead.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The idea of playing as both antagonist and protagonist is brilliant. Seeing both sides, understanding where they come from before the inevitable clash. The problem is that this is a SEQUEL and you are only introducing antagonist in the second installment. It's a **** uphill battle, because you're trying to make us empathize with the character who kills the established and well loved protagonist.

The thing is, you can clearly see that this was an issue for a writing team too. They make Abby too nice, too righteous compared to Ellie. It's a manipulative tactic, trying to push down one protagonist to boost another. They do their absolute **** best to make Ellie unlikable, didn't work. We practically witnessed this girl grow up, we will automatically be on her side.

I think the better story would've been a continuation of Joel and Ellie's relationship. It would've been much more powerful to see Joel actually witness and process the consequences of his own actions coming to haunt him. Instead, they took a lazy way out, which turned Joel into a **** martyr. I can't possibly see him in a bad light, because I'm too focused on his death. The character I loved died, death makes it hard to be objective about said character's bad deeds.

Oh well, I can see they tried, I just think that this shouldn't have been a sequel. This should have been a standalone game with original characters, that way this kind of story could be more balanced towards both sides of the conflict.

Doesn't really innovative from the last game, the story is below average compared to the last game, feels like they're trying to push the dry and edgy side too much. While the main theme violence begets violence flops pretty hard as you wade through nameless soldiers who repeat the same lines.with the horrendous crunch the devs were made to do. The accessibility options are a nice addition.

Sound: 7 - Good overall sound quality, especially gunfire and infected enemy variety sounds.

Dialogue: 4 - There is a lot left lacking here. In some cases, how the voice actors are reading the lines, but mostly the dialogue choices. So many characters stating out of character lines, it's not even funny.

Gameplay: 6 - There is not much different here than the first game, just another cycle of set pieces and environments to trek and battle through. I also ran into a lot of glitches where certain character models didn't load during death animations. I also once felt like I was going to drop through the map when hopping down off of a higher platform in an interior level. You could see the black above the level design.

Enemy AI: 4 - This is just downright horrid at times. Enemies on many occasions ran right past me. Even on the harder difficulties, this game was just too easy to stealth around and kill oblivious enemies.

Story: 0 - This by far is the worst aspect of this game. It is hard to get into the details without major spoilers, so I will say this. Stay very far away from this game if you played and liked the first game. I would call this game more of a disparaging fan fiction than anything else.

    PROS:
    Game looks phenomenal
    Game play is smooth
Audio and music is on point
Moments of real feeling and relating to the character

    CONS:
    Story line...... wtf & why
Character model (abby) not consistent and unrealistic
    Too much push on LGBTQ
Poor choice of over all message during sensitive pandemic

So let me explain my 6 rating.. It would have been much much higher... There were just certain aspects that made me almost quit... Aside from the obvious, in your face LGBTQ, which became almost comical, it was Abbys character model that was so ridiculous and unsightly. It was never consistent. He beefy muscles fluctuated in size from scene to scene. Maybe not so damning if you werent forces to play her so long.....

Then there was the story... Dear lord.. the story.. The first ends on a note of love and going to extremes for those you love.... But this one.... hate, revenge, loss, grief.. It tore down Ellie and Joels character to the point I didnt even like Ellie at the end...

For me.... This was just a heinous act at such a sensitive time. We are all suffering a pandemic. We have been locked inside. Little to look forward to in 2020. For some... waiting YEARS for this game, saw a glimmer of hope in the release of this game..... I would not be surprised if this game threw some into a deeper depression. Reckless and there was no need to degrade our beloved characters to the point they did....

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I remember finishing TLOU 1 I started at the the credits for like 15 minutes, wtf I need a part 2 this game is god tier. So when I heard part 2 will be a thing I could not be more happy for video games. We watch first trailers with Ellie and Joel everyone was so hyped. June 19th you know what happened...
Let's start with positive points, graphic is really well done I haven't encountered any bug/crash which I would say is a good thing. No slowdown as well. Gameplay is okay feel the same as first part but I don't play this game for the gameplay but for the story like a majority of people.
The story is the bad point, you remember the intro of tlou well TLOU 2 was kinda fun, looked like a teen tv show... Then, a bit of action and Joel dies? We have been teased with trailer with Joel and Ellie all we wanted is to know how the relationship would go and we get this?
Despite this event, I kinda liked the part with Ellie, probably because I had a story goal and I was playing Ellie. But dear god, the second part with Abby? I'm sorry but all I wanted was a skip button it felt so empty so weird like could have been another game. The character is bad designed ( not only this one but all new ones), the story around is weird, flashbacks for this girl, who cares?
The ending was garbage too I might be too dumb but I think I do not understand if there is a message for anger to show or something else?
I've always been recommending the part 1 to friends for the story even though they do not really play this type of game since this game could be watched like a movie so if you remove the story the last of us is not even an average game. Even the music is not good enough compared to the first one.

As a nutshell we were expecting so much and we got nothing. Such a waste

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lets start out with what this game does right: The world is beautiful and even the linear parts have several branches of paths the player can take making each person have their own experience. The killing of Joel, while brutal, really set in motion the story and while I was displeased it was not series ruining for me. The story had an amazing pace up until the end of Day 3, which is where my 10/10 review gets thrown out the window.

Now what the game gets wrong: We spent an entire game and DLC caring about the Ellie and Joel relationship only to be forced to play the person who ended it. The pacing at this point is whiplash worthy, the player went for the climax back to day 1 and forced to play as Abby. The entire "SJW" backlash on this part is just dumb, Lev being transgender probably has a total of 2 minutes of a 30hour game. Playing as Abby was not a rewarding experience, playing as Ellie I was collecting every collectible I could, but as Abby I found myself forcing my way through levels as fast as I could simply because she was not a relatable character. They tried to give her a redemption ark, and all along the way you hear about how much of a psychopathic murder machine she is, and the island sequence prove this even more. Abby is extremely selfish, I get that they were trying to make a foil to Joel, but the character was just not relatable at all. Now, the ending was one of the worst in history; there was no real resolution making the entire game pointless.

First half of the game 10/10
    Second half .1/10
    overall: 4/10

On the other hand the the story was underwhelming in many ways starting with..... SPOILERS.... The death of Joal and thats not all the its shuved down trhe throats of the audience that Ellie is gay and it also seems unnatural that the fold of Ellie (Abby) had abnormally large arms almost as if the studio made the decision to make her seem less feminine. Now i do understand that living in a post apoalyptic future isnt exactually going to make you look like a super model but the arms on Abby stood out like a sore thumb. This game is also very female centric with all the main male characters being killed off or just ignored. This doesnt seem like the best choice since the main audiance for this game is male teenagers who just wanna kill Zombies. When i say that the LGBTQ content was out of hand i mean that there was a sex scene of two females which was unnecessary and just used to fill time. That is why i rate it a four out of ten the story was crap and it doesnt quite make up for it with game play there were instances where i kept saying come on stop talking and just let me kill zombies. I only enjoyed it because the game play was kinda good and challenging but besides that it didnt live up to my expectations. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I want to preface this by saying that I absolutely loved the first game and its characters.

Let's talk positives first. The technical aspect is suberb. TLOUII is visually breathtaking, the animations, the sound, the graphics are impressive considering the almost decade old hardware it's running on, huge props to the visual and environment artists. Like holy **** the quality of the facial expressions is incredible.

The gameplay is alright, it's slightly improved here and there, you can go prone and takeout enemies by jumping on them, however it can go repetitive after a while since melee combat essentially is press square to hit and L1 to dodge, and there's not a lot of ammo around.

The story is where this game completely ****s the bed. It manages to destroy everything you loved about the first game. It is full of disappointment, misery, plot holes and characters doing stupid things and complete 180's in the span of hours. Playing as this comically buff villain that brutally tortures and beats Joel to death just so the story can progress feels so cheap and disrespectful. From that point on Abby becomes irredeemable no matter how much dogs or saving animals the story shoves down your throat during her flashbacks. You're supposed to feel bad for her because her father died, even thought he wanted to perform nonconsensual lethal surgery on a child for a make-believe "cure" that had no guarantee of working. Playing as her for half the game was miserable.
Ellie's flashbacks are so much more engaging and fun compared to the rest of the game it's like they were given to the new intern to write.

There are way more points to consider but I don't give enough ****s to cover everything. I don't think the game is a 0/10 because there are things to love about it, but no way in hell is this a 10/10. "You don't like the game because you're homophobic" is a **** strawman and most of the valid criticism doesn't involve that, even though for me personally it is slightly over the top.Great visuals, serviceable gameplay and horrible story. I'd give it a 5 the it wasn't for the controversy surrounding Naughty Dog abusing copyright laws to strike down youtube channels who were discussing the leaks and spoilers, not to mention the Joel false advertising, censorship double standards, Neil Druckmann lying that Ellie was the only playable character and Abby not being advertised anywhere even though she's the PC in half the game.

Mixed bag. Visually stunning. Not as bad as I thought the story choices were going to be. Some pretty cool tie-ins. However, am still very disappointed. Just too many things seem out of character from the last game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I want to make this as fair of a review as I can.

Graphics 8/10 - Most people say how amazing this game looks. Had this game come out in 2018 I would agree but with games like Doom Eternal coming out this year the graphics of this game now seems dated in comparison, it still looks great (forest areas most notably) but not amazing. The face motion capture also looks uncanny valley more

Had this game come out in 2018 I would agree but with games like Doom Eternal coming out this year the graphics of this game now seems dated in comparison, it still looks great (forest areas most notably) but not amazing. The face motion capture also looks uncanny valley more often than not.

Sound 9/10 - Voice acting, music and sound effects really sell the feel of the world and are as good as one could want.

Game play 2/10 - Game play is a real let down, it doesn`t build on the first game and if any thing subtracts from it. With unlimited uses of your knife it really is a sneak around grab and stab game which is super repetitive, yes you could play it other ways but this ends up being the most effective way. They really needed to have a level of resource management, limited the number of times you can use the knife, or reward the player of using different tactics for an encounter.

Story 1/10 - With out listing any spoilers the choice made at the 2~ hour mark was terrible and really killed the mood of the game from that point on. it also feels like a story was written early on and the game built on that then changed very late in development as it starts to be very disjointed even the later level designs suggest this. The ending also didn`t sit well for me as its not the actions, I feel the character would have made.

Overall this game is a 5/10 (Average) It feels like a game that had a lot of shortcuts taken game play wise with the hope the graphics would make up for and a story that feels disjointed and character traits that don't connect well to the first game.

I am a huge fan of the first game, so much so that i could beat it in a single sitting on hard. Loving every single moment, perfecting my runs though encounters without damage or getting caught. Every play through id acquire more and more attachment to the characters.

This game though, i cannot articulate a sentence powerful enough to convey my disappointment. I feel like they did not consider the prior fan base attachment at all. Sure there are heartfelt moments in the game such as the museum scene but after what they did to Joel. I wont accept this story as something meant for their fans. I felt no attachment or sympathy for anyone in Abby's portion of the story.

As for the the visuals, sound, music, voice acting, it was great. Just as expected from naughty dog. The game play is similar to the first which i cant complain about but at 29 hours game time, i got extremely bored of the repetitiveness in enemies. It felt like the same layout with different background. Playing on hard, i found the game was too easy and forgiving on resources. I used maybe 2 health packs the entire play through. One on the tutorial and another when i got bored and rushed enemies in the final chapter. There was always snacks and resources to grab everywhere if you explored enough.

Just based on the story, if i could go back in time, id cancel my pre-order and pretend Joel is still living a life watching over Ellie in Jackson with Tommy and Maria. This thing is just a heartache for the fans of the IP.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To talk about The Last of Us 2, you have to begin with The Last of Us. The story was incredible, with likeable characters. The beginning and end both brought tears to my eyes. The world was beautiful, the story incredible and the gameplay was solid for its time. The last of Us 2 had a beautiful world, maybe the prettiest on PS4. Gameplay has not really moved on since the last game and it felt dated. Also, the world felt empty at times. The story and character are both trash. I put them in one group, because they are related. The old characters are almost unrecognisable, only in the flashbacks you get a Last of Us feeling. The new characters are not likable, either because they are written poorly, or because they are to briefly in the game. I get the feeling they changed the story mid development and this also killed a lot of character development.

Also this games feels very manipulative. And that is not a bad thing. Good writing is manipulating your feelings, whilst not making you feel manipulated. This game is so obvious in its manipulating, it takes you out of the game. I must admit the death of Joel felt **** and made me hate the game for a moment, but the could have saved it with good writing. The didn’t. They made you playing as Abby. Abby is a weirdly unlikable character and they make you play as her for a good portion of the game. First I thought I didn’t like her because she killed Joel, but I could understand where she is coming from, so that was not all of it. Was it because she looked weird? I would like to think I am more enlightened than that. But I did like the MMA fighter in the Mandalorian(edit: Gina Carano) and found here believable. After finishing the game I found out they used the body model from a female weightlifter/athlete, the face of a second women and the voice of an third women. They created an uncanny valley effect I couldn’t get over. I think it can be done well, this was not it. But in the end it doesn’t matter. I didn’t care about the characters, I didn’t care about the story, I didn’t care about the game.

I lost my job of 20 years the week before this came out, so as a fan of part 1, I was excited I had the time to play this game. This game made me feel worse than losing my job. Neil Druckmann: “The Last of Us 2 is not meant to be fun.”. Well Neil, mission accomplished.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Holy hell....... Where do I even start with this game, first off we all play video games to make us feel happy not angry or frustrated right? Well unfortunately in this game it's not the case, and no I havent played the game and u don't even need to play it to find out how trash the story really is, the only time where u actually might need to play it is when u want to find out how good the gameplay is, second off this game is a waste of 1. 60 bucks 2. Almost 25 hours of ur life, u can simply just open youtube and watch the whole game without having to spend 60 bucks, but that's up to you if you want, third off if u actually put graphics aside for a bit and compare the first game to this one u will lose ur **** this game is just so **** disappointing to just see this series going from one of my favourite games to this waste of time is just ridiculous, I've watched a streamer play this game and I **** u not I fell asleep the gameplay is so **** repetitive u literally do the same **** over and over again and u don't even feel like ur progressing through the game, all u do is just literally go. Back and forth until u just quit the game, if u were to remove cut scenes from the game no one would play the **** that's because no one plays the game for the gameplay, only the story which surprisingly they **** it up, Joel dies in the first two hours of the game and u don't even get to play with him, he dies in the most dumb way u can possibly think of by trusting and saving some random person he's never heard of then he proceeds to walk into their basement with his brother Tommy with other like 7 people who are some random people, yet in the first game Joel and Tommy barely trusted anyone which doesn't make any sense, after Joel dies by abby, the devs of this game literally force u to play as the character that killed Joel for like 10 hours at some point in the game which obviously makes u feel frustrated, u literally build ur relationship with other characters on the game and then they die because Ellie wants "revenge" yet at the end of the game u don't even kill abby u just spare her, oh and what does Ellie get when she spares her? oh nothing really she just loses two of her fingers and loses her girlfriend and her baby and Tommy, the game makes u feel like a idiot for even spending the time to play it there's nothing to benefit off from playing this game, the best way to describe this game is this "at this point the game doesn't feel like a story, it feels like a **** message" Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is pretty hard to put my thoughts into words so if I look at specific points without spoiling the game then:

    Positives:
-Graphics: Graphics are a high level and the detail and passion that went into the product is visible.

    -Animation: Excelent animations

    Negatives:
-Gameplay: this is more a personal problem as I had this with the first one too. Though I had hoped they would have changed / improved more in 7 years.

-Characters: This is where a major problem lies. Established characters act out of character and there is no development. A certain character who I will not name ends up being someone you play as and at the time you get there you feel nothing for that character or the ones around them. Also it is fine that they want to show you a revenge plot but they figuratively and literally spit on older characters.

-Plot: I have seen a revenge plot a hundred times and I also seen it a hundred times better. You miss a connection when you just killed hundreds and now should feel bad about a single one.

-The ending: I don't wanna spoil the ending, but let's just say the end feels empty like ash in your mouth as the whole goal of the game is not reached at the end.

I personally love the last of us 1. But 2 misses the point of the first game completely and ruins characters. For me who finds story in games important this isn't a game for me. I would. I would, however say that if you're a person who liked the last of us 1 gameplay and visuals that you might like this too. I personally had hoped this game would reach new heights, but sadly instead of new heights it has reached a deep low point for me.

    i rate it a 4/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have finished the game, but I feel such a crushing sadness after finishing it. I think I understand the intent of the developers, but don't think it made for an enjoyable experience. The first game, though desolate, was a beautiful mix of sadness/joy/excitement and ended with me feeling hope. In general, I felt good while playing Part I, and I ended the game feeling good as well.

With Part II, I felt miserable playing as Abbby. I think the intent was for us to bond with her and sympathize with her, but despite the attempts, I just couldn't. I understand what Joel did in the first game, and don't think Abby was entitled to her revenge at all. I get her tribulations, but her Dad was kinda crazed and I don't feel warm towards Abby and her character arc.

The violence was also way too much! Perhaps that was the intent? But had I known that, I wouldn't have played it. I feel as though this game was the equivalent to a situation where Voldemort wins at the end of Harry Potter, and then Hogwarts is burned and the Death Eaters win. I would not have wanted to read a story where that version of events played out! Similarly, I was so horrified I had to play as Abby, and beating up Ellie made me want to turn the games off and watch the ending summarized on youtube because I would have needed closure and to know how it ends. Good for the developers for doing what they felt was the right creative intent. This game made me feel bad, and I feel worse off for having played it.

Some good though, because I think it's important these reviews are balanced. Graphics were amazing, and I DID like the gameplay. Just the story and characters I hated...This is why the ultimate score is 4. I think 0 scores are stupid and too emotional. But I would not recommend this game, and I would not have purchased it had I known how things were gonna play out.

The game offers a very wide options for approach for every combat which is amazing and an improvement in contrast to the first game. The graphics are breathtaking and the best of PS4, which I can guarantee wont be topped, the mocap, the details in the models, it's incredible. The game delivers a tense and dangerous atmosphere. But the big problem is that the story has a lot of weaks points and some characters arcs dont make sense at all. The game forces the player to empathize with Abby with very forced scenes snd moments to no avail. And the conclusion is unsatisfactory and a complete mess in both mecanics and plot. In a story-heavy oriented game like this, it is unforgivable. Expand

I will give it points for the graphics and general production values. Otherwise the game itself is hardly an evolution on the original. The worst part is the writing which is really a slap in the face if you wanted a real continuation of the first game. The worst part is that the game's director has a self insert character that has sex with the protagonist. Avoid this game if you can.

Unfortunately this is not the case with TLoU2 where you feel the 50% of the game is cinematics, 30% of the game is walking and exploring and 20% is actual gameplay. and then, we have the political agenda, the fact that they would remove Joel from the game and replace him with a gorilla girl on steroids in order to pander to feminists and those other weirdos talks a lot about the director and the quality of his ideas. Neil Druckmann is a clown and should never be in charge of directing a game. to say this game is a disappointment is putting it very mildly. Expand

I don't buy games for having good music but the first had that in spades. While I did enjoy the gameplay slightly more, it still felt like it was plagued by the problems of the first game: Bad AI, very repetitive stealth sections, too much QTE, skill tree system that doesn't do anything, and a couple other things. They did add some new things too, like unpreventable jump scares and some slightly annoying attempts to make it seem less linear. The pacing of the gameplay clearly saw some improvements thankfully, making it easier to progress. Characters were very hit or miss, and some of the acting felt weak. Where to start on the story. The pacing was god awful, I actively hated playing through a large portion of the game although I enjoyed the it mostly until around mid way through. The story tries to make you feel bad through cheap tricks, that are easy to see through. I understand the themes and ideas of revenge and violence that they were trying explore, but they did it in cheap ineffective, sometimes clearly emotionally manipulative ways. I wouldn't buy it, unless you don't care about the story all that much and enjoyed the gameplay of the first game. Expand

I personally think that if this was a standalone game. it wouldve been fine however, the first game did a really good job delevoping ellie and joel as a character. it really upset me (spoiler alert) to see joel killed by an under develop character. who was never in the first game nor was mentioned and to add salt to the injury. you will play this character for some the portions of the game. I also find hard to believe joel trusted those guys so easily which contradict joel character as it was pretty clear in the first game that he does have trust issue. naughty has been one of my fav developers out ther but they really job the ball on this one Expand

Cons: Playing this game after the original made me feel like I was reading a series of novels written by two different authors. The author of the original loved their subject matter and was committed to building strong characters while subverting their expectations in an intelligent and logical manner based on meaningful human experience that readers could relate to.

The sequel? It feels like it was written by someone who had an agenda as their primary motivation rather than creating a good story.. (Reminds me of East German Theatre prior to the collapse of the wall). It feels forced, illogical and the main moral "point" completely misses the mark based on player's experience with the original. While in university I remember having to sift through tons of bogus academic articles that applied Freud to literally everything... This feels like someone took some strange philosophical cult ideology and slapped it onto an action shooter game to forcefully educate the 'masses'

I don't see how massive game Journalist will give this game a 10/10. And then claim that everyone that who gives it a bad score has not played it. Well I played it and it's still a bad story. Also I know for fact that they haven't played the game because if definitely not 10/10 game.

Positives: Graphics and gameplay in this game Is are amazing. When playing stealth on survivor felt like it was a true survivor game that if I get shot it actually matter. I've to be very careful in each encounter I got into or I would be killed and there are so may ways you can take out enemy's. Sound effects and cutsceans are one the best on any PS4 game I've ever seen.

Negatives: Ok the story is just a bad rollercoaster ride. I don't know why they choose to go down this path for the writing of the game. For the first Hour of the game you play as the new character Abby and she kills Joel. I'm not mad that they killed Joel I'm mad how they did it. Another massive issue In this game are the new characters you are suppose to care about. As Abby when her friends die by Ellie the game expects that you should feel bad for them when you don't. Same thing for Ellie new friends like Jesse I never really game a **** about them through out the game. The Plot for Abby is so dumb. The game tries way to hard to make us feel bad for Abby and it fails at that. The only thing that was slightly interesting about Abby story was Lev backstory. Then after you're with Lev and Lara dies her story feels pointless and that there is no end goal and that I'm doing useless crap with Lev. Ellie flashback with Joel was really nice especially the birthday one. But Even Ellie story feels like the plot and her charter are just weakened and out of touch compared to the first game. By the End of the game the only characters you only really care about are the one from the first game such as Ellie and Tommy. And When Ellie about to kill Abby I guess the writers thought that we will like Abby but we don't. They should've killed Abby it's more realistic. Or better yet written a whole different Story.

The Writing of the story is what basically what destroys this game I don't know why Neil Druckmann thought this was a good story. He said that he wanted to respect the characters of the first game well all I've seen was disrespect toward Joel and Ellie in this Game.

I really genuinely did but a revenge story without the revenge isn't just depressing but it's also pointless and it does a disservice to both the fans and all the characters in the story.

Not only does Ellie not get her revenge she also loses both Dina and JJ, both her and Tommy are now permanently disfigured because of there efforts and so now Ellie has literally lost everything. She literally has nothing to show for her efforts. She achieves nothing and she learns nothing and as someone who loved the original game I can't recommend this game unless you want to have the original game ruined for you.

It’s high quality but the story missed the mark. I genuinely have never been so disappointed and miserable playing a game. The goal was to make you empathize with Abby and by the end you should have understood why Ellie let her go. It simply failed to do that. Parts of the game were way too drawn out or just didn’t even need to be included. Of course there were parts of the game that I enjoyed but I did not enjoy it as much as I could have. Abby would've been likeable if they build up her badass motif then have her kill Joel at the end. That way, the players wouldn't feel like dropping the game from the first two hours. Besides, why, why one earth did our 50 yrld man-- probably in his 60s now, died when he was a fantastic survivor of the first game. You can't just say "oh he mellowed out", ask veterans, they still have their instincts. I love the gameplay. I like the graphics. Kuddos to them. I appreciate how they ttied to include more of the minority. I just wish they presented the story in a more jawdropping way. I actually would love the stoey and the theme of forgiveness if it was presented better, just a few tweaks would've made the game a masterpiece Anyways, still love Ellie. I wish they gave Joel a proper death.

The Last of Us 2 had good moments (I loved the museum part so much), the game has great action. The environments, the mood in the game and a lot in the game are fantastic. Never saw a Playstation game looking that good. But TLOU is about the story, the bound between Ellie and Joe. And this game, takes that all from us. So much felt forced, implausible, not needed and not interesting at all. Some characters are so annoying and boring, the story telling is bad and the pacing is very confusing and distracting. I totally understand everybody hating this game. I also understand people liking this game. So for me it looks and plays too good for a zero. But so much is done so bad too, that it is never ever a 10/10. And because the important part (story) is badly done, I give it a 4/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I suppose I should start this by saying that the first game is one of my favorite video games of all time, so you can know the context, and that I have finished the game.

First, what I did like about the game:
    1. The graphics
    2. The locations
    3. Ellie and Dina's relationship!!
    4. Most of Ellie's gameplay
    4. The gameplay was ok but the companion AI is still messed up. I liked how they upped the handling difficulty of the weapons 5. The usage of stalkers is much more advanced than the first game and they're a big part of the gameplay now, which I loved
    6. The shamblers are amazing!
    7. Ellie's flashbacks

And now to what I didn't like:
    1. The overall story. Personally, I think the story is in the category of exploitation films. Meaning, it uses shock value, brutality, and extreme emotions as a way to hook people, often placing too much emphasis on those aspects. When done well it can make a good story, but unfortunately here I don't think it was done well. They killed Joel so early and in such a brutal way that it's simply not palatable to me. To do this with a beloved character after making him act far more trusting than his previous characterization simply feels shoehorned and sloppy.
    2. The ending. I understand that the moral is supposed to be that revenge doesn't pay off, but again, to give such an absolutely bleak ending to a beloved character was a risk that to me didn't pay off when paired with the rest of the tragedy in the game. Again, the usage of extreme emotional "torture" to elicit a response from the gamer. They could have given us a sad ending without making Ellie live out her biggest fear, or killing off Jesse for no reason, or giving us hope for Ellie's happiness then ripping it away. Sure, perhaps, it's realistic to their world, but in the first game Joel sustained a gut wound after being impaled by rebar, and he survived. The first game wasn't about realism and it just feels like they tried to go too hard to "make up for it" here. The least they could've done is had Ellie and Tommy reconnect to show that even if you make the mistake of giving in too much to revenge, there can be hope for rebuilding.
    3. Forcing us to kill dogs as Ellie. This feels like a sneaky move to try to get us to dislike Ellie more. Not to mention animal death is a big no for me and the fact that we're made to do it over and over is not fun to say the least.
    4. Lev's story. This here is pretty much what set in stone the fact that they were just making an exploitation film. There was no need to make Lev suffer the loss of not only his family, but also his culture, and in such an utterly violent way nonetheless. It's misery for the sake of misery, and it doesn't sit right with me as a remember of the LGBT+ community that they went so hard with Lev's suffering.
    5. Being made to play as Abby. I actually did enjoy a fair portion of Abby's part since hers has more zombies. But it just felt forced when they tried to make us feel bad for her. After all, she was the first one to take pleasure in revenge, and if not for her Ellie wouldn't have been pushed over the edge. I feel like playing as her could've been done much better if we just weren't forced to play as her for half of the game. It was quite disruptive after getting excited about maxing out multiple weapons and skills with Ellie, not to mention that Ellie was the reason I was playing the game in the first place.

I could say more but I think that sums most of it. I think it made sense for Joel to die, but they definitely didn't go the right direction with how they did it, especially with how they made Joel so trusting. They just went way too hard on the misery and gave the players too many cruel stabs with what they did to most of the characters, amd although I would normally say that the story isn't all that important, with the last of us it really is one of the main attractions.

AI 3/10: For a triple-A game to have this bad and predictable of an AI especially while Patroling in a 1m wide lane or while looking directly at your companion is staggering, most of the time you don't notice the poor ai when you are just fighting but if you pay just a little attention it is weird even changing the difficulty settings didn't improve the AI.

Visuals 9/10: the Game looks gorgeous. The animation of the face to convey emotions is very spot on so you can actually read the characters without them having to explain their emotions. the takedowns and especially the cutscenes are incredibly gruesome and most certainly over the top.

Story ?/10: .... The way you slaughter your way through the enemies. You fully understand the decisions of Ellie and have to watch her mentally unravel killing everyone in her way. about a 7.5/10 up to here Close to the final encounter the game leaves you on an insane cliffhanger and forces you to play a different character Abby, the same character that drove you on this entire revenge quest, and honestly this part of the game is by far the worst. in the entire 13h playtime of Abby, it never felt like it really belonged into the main game, it felt like an afterthought put in to make the player miserable every chance the game gets, you play the same events leading up to the cliffhanger just from the enemies Point of view, the only redeeming part of this "Sidequest" was the Subquest around Lev&Yara, every other character isn't even written likable so there is a 10-15h Part of the game that doesn't serve any purpose with maybe the exception of reminding and taunting the player with what happened in the game up to that point, in Ellie's part the Flashbacks were a nice break from the Killing but in Abby's part they just seem to be put in to pad the runtime. At the end of this part, you are forced to play as Abby and fight Ellie, neither die from this encounter. This part is maybe a 2/10. Next character switch, you play as Ellie again, who settled down with her Girlfriend Dina and Dina's child JJ, everything seems like the game ending 30 minutes of gameplay with Ellie successfully breaking the Circle of hate and revenge. Thou it is clear that Ellie suffers from her action and what she witnessed. One day Tommy (Joel's brother) visits and asks why she has stopped hunting Abby after that Ellie decides to end the circle differently by just killing Abby. You play as Abby again in Santa Barbara looking for clues to the Fireflies after you find what you were looking for you are ambushed and now you play as Ellie and hunt her down. there will be a confrontation between Abby and Ellie in the end no one dies but Ellie loses some fingers. The end is maybe a 4/10

Sound & Music 7/10: Sound in this game is very scary and disturbing in places your hands will get sweaty when you hear the clicking of clickers or the whistling of the scars. The music, on the other hand, is nice but not quite as memorable as in the first game

Difficulty 9/10: the simple fact that you can basically change anything in the game, for example, make ammo more abundant or scarcer. you can change how fast ai will detect you and so on. this game has the right difficulty setting for any player if its the first time they have played a third-person shooter or this is their millions time.

Overall 4/10: Sadly this Game with the insane down your throat Story was at parts an 8/10 but sadly it guilt trips you for 10h+. I would still recommend you play the game or at least take a look on stream or youtube. Deep down this ist a fantastic game just the story and the "Sidequest" destroy the game.

Wow! So where do I start with this? First of all - I love first game. Maybe it's not my game of decade or something, but I really liked characters, story and some aspects of gameplay, so naturally I waited for sequel. And do I get? Story wrote by drunken and retarted monkeys, god awful characters and their flop relations, romance so dumb and shallow that even Padme-Anakin looks like Shakespeare, and this dull, boring, obsolete and muddling gameplay. This is the first time, when I feel just dumber after playing some game! And I'm just sick of listening how this game is "masterpiece after 10 hours". 10 hours it's a lot of time, and when I even after this long time, I still feel sick and dumb, than something go wrong. The worst game of this year! Expand

The death scene of Joel is poorly implemented, and the feminism message is so bad.

The spirit of the first was much better than this.
Sometimes you feel you are playing a Resident Evil game.

After all the hundreds of worthless killings, finally Ellie decides not to kill, that’s a horrible ending. The false advertising of the game, made me so pissed.

The thing is the way Abby killed joel removed any chances of me symphatizing with Abby if it was a quick death inflicted because of the reasons she had then I would be more ok with it. If they had given some idea of why she was doing it before the actual death I would be more fine with it, and The thing I hate the most is I felt like Abby was also the main charachter of the game which I hated. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
