Do not buy if you played the first game. Graphics, sound, level design, animations, all 10/10.... gameplay is a strong 8/10 with many dips thanks to the forced story that really makes you not want to finish the game, i have never played a story driven game that made me want to speed run just to reach the end. At the beginning when they kill Joel I was mad, but eventually as the game progressed I started to accepted it because the plot was evolving good…then comes the second part of the game, where you play with a character with whom I have no connection nor sympathy at all (even though the game tries really hard to make you hate both Ellie and Joel for some reason). The only reason I didn’t stop playing was that I really wanted to see the ending (which sucks by the way) because I really thought that in the end, Ellie would have redemption, but it only end it worse for her. Great graphic and map design, vividly demonstrate the environment in the apocalypse, while it fails to make the story right, this is a game, not a movie, players need to emerge in it and play as the character, so forcing the players to be as one that they don't want to be is totally unacceptable. I don't know that I should play an antagonist for almost half of the game. Which made me mad, but this game didn't give me any choice, I could not force Abby to be killed and say: Voila, here's my ideal happy ending. I feel not respected as a player who highly expect to have a good experience with Ellie during the journey. This sequel ruins every expectation I have toward the title, and I know they do it in purpose. Expand

(Abby’s dad) I’m not even that mad about Joel’s death, I’m maby even more mad about those misleading trailer where Joel spoke that wonderful line. But this story of Abby didn’t had my interest at all, especially her friends like Owen, Mel, Manny, Lev and Yara had so little value for me in this part. In the beginning when playing with Ellie & Dina I felt those oldskool TLOU1 vibes, when the gameplay switched to Abby it felt like I was playing a whole different game. Expand

Abby is very one-note, and just unlikable in general, even though the game really makes a great attempt to force you to do so. Many things seem contrived and don’t happen organically. This theme of revenge and “breaking the cycle” attempts to happen so many times throughout the game that it’s laughable. Expand

Don't discount negative reviews as most of us have played the entire game and no reviews mentioning things like 'agenda' or 'SJW.'

This game is nowhere near the masterpiece it is touted as but it's not a terrible game either. I appreciate Naughty Dog for attempting to push the boundaries of emotional intensity but while this is praiseworthy, they failed spectacularly. The characters could all be interchanged with their motives, and no one would know the difference. Ellie, who you would come to love in the first game as a spunky, lighthearted but caring person is devolved into whatever it is they call a character. I do understand why they wanted to go this direction with the story, but it's so poorly done and contrived. Ellie's voice actor's talented was wasted by this script.

The gameplay overall was quite fun for the first 10-15 hours but puzzles they used in the first game, are too far and few between here. It soon gets stale and if that isn't bad enough, they throw a huge tonal shift at you and expect the same gameplay to carry you through for another 10 hours or so. That being said, the environment design is amazing and it does make Seattle feel like it's own character. What they did here was nothing short of amazing. I think most people would like the story beats and feel it compelling for the first half of the game and does have some pretty good moments. Overall, I'd say I'm ok with the beginning and ending of the story, but getting there was emotionally painful and unpleasant to play through. This is a videogame first and foremost after all and thus I can't give it a positive score for any of it's redeeming qualities.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. They had 7 years to write and figure out AT LEAST a DECENT send off to one of the game's most loved characters and protagonists. Heck, they had 7 years to come up with anything they wanted. Instead, they gave us this trashpile of a storyline where Joel dies like an incompetent boy-scout on his first day out basically shutting his brain off and not acting like we know he would by breaking his own rules. Then, we have to play for what it felt like an eternity with MA'AM (whom we could care less about tbh) and go through a lot of unnecessary things that are forgettable at best. When we FINALLY get to the end, you give us some stupid excuse for why Ellie doesn´t complete her revenge journey. WHAT IS THIS?! These characters are making the stupidest and most non-sensical decisions ever! They're not acting in the way they would if someone competent had written the story!

The only reason this is getting 4 of 10 is because the game actually runs (despite some glitches every now and then) and the graphics and sound and what not.

We were better off without this sequel.

TLOU Part 2 is a very polished game with fantastic visuals and presentation. I was absolutely awed by all the little details and couldn't believe that it was running on my PS4 Slim.

However, the game eventually gets to a point where it's story is terribly annoying to me, the player, that it is hard to treat it seriously even with how great the game looks and feel.

As many know, the game badly represents it's established characters. Players will question the actions of the characters and it is hard to believe that the same characters that the players knew will do what they do in Part 2.

Some (including Druckmann himself) will try to argue that these characters are not out of character at all, and that the time skip to Part 2 has changed them. But it sounds like a pretty weak argument to me. The game does not attempt to show or hint you on the changes to any of these characters. Why should the players study into something not shown or hinted to them and speculate a reason that could never be confirmed (unless through a DLC) to justify a questionable action in the game?

Not to mention that Druckmann eventually fires at the players for thinking that they understand the character more than him when they don't, which is such a cheap shot. If the character development was not shown in the game and the writer(s) has to clarify it during an interview, this is just a failure in storytelling on their part.

Next big issue. You play as another character named Abby for almost half of the game. I really don't think this should be considered a spoiler since shes almost like a secondary protagonist. The general idea of playing as Abby is that the game wants you to like her as a character and sets you off on a journey similar to that of TLOU 1.

The issue with this experience is that it feels extremely forced and there does not seem to be a clear direction with this. A good half of Abby's part is almost pointless to the overarching story that people are interested in, other than, look, she has friendly friends and do everyday people good things. The other half involves her going on a journey while caring for younger and vulnerable people like how Joel's relationship to Ellie in the first game.

However, this journey was so poorly executed that it becomes apparent that the game is trying to get you to like her. In the first game, we understand that Joel has a hardened personality because of his daughter's death and his journey with Ellie helped him to break out of his shell and allowed him to accept and face his past. This is likely why we liked him, as we see him go through these development with Ellie, and it rarely feels like the game is trying to force us to like Joel.

Abby's journey on the other hand feels meaningless. She is pretty much the same character before and after the journey. Her journey started on the premise that, "They saved me, so I have to save them", which doesn't say much about her character, she could have been like this the whole time. Eventually she continues to care for the younger character simply because they both has nowhere else to go.

Asides from the poor execution of the journey. Abby also makes very questionable and unlikable decisions in the game. So it feels like the game wants you to like her, but at the same time, the writers don't seem to understand what is unlikable, or that they overestimated how players would have overlooked those actions.

Overall, it really seems like something that was written on a whim with little care to the story details.

I'll start this review out by saying I didn't enjoy the gameplay of The Last of Us 1 very much. Zombies are a very overused and drawn out horror trope and the first game didn't really do anything to make the gameplay stand out very much in terms of survival third person shooter games. The one thing that honestly carried the sub par experience in my opinion was the story. Unfortunately, this game drops the ball with both aspects. The gameplay isn't changed much aside from things that make it annoying, like human enemies having invincibility frames when they melee attack you and new zombie types that are uninspired and even more annoying to deal with than the normal zombies. The stealth gameplay is literally the same as it was in the first game except now stealth areas are in front of loading doors that make you do a prompt for 10 seconds or so to open a door that has some debris in the way or something. It's also a little too hard in my opinion, I don't consider myself to be particularly bad at stealth games, and I was playing the game on normal difficulty, but I kept finding myself getting discovered during almost every stealth section because of how densely packed the areas are with enemies. The gunplay is fine, and I didn't really mind it much but it's not anything special either. Every time a zombie section came around I audibly groaned because I loathed them so much. The zombies are not fun to fight in this game, especially because the clickers still one hit kill you, which I found to be annoying and cheap in the first game, and the others will grapple you which forces you to preform a quick time event to escape while your health steadily drains. I was really relying on the story to at least be somewhat close to the quality the original had, but to no avail. None of the newly introduced characters in this game are likable aside from Yara and Lev. Every other character essentially has 2 personality traits that they cling to like glue. Abby falls into this as well and essentially goes from very unlikable to somewhat unlikable throughout the course of the game. Decisions that previously established characters make in this game made me roll my eyes because they were so sudden and out of character. The game also tries its absolute hardest to make you feel bad for the actions you preform throughout the story but with such unlikable characters and them trying so very hard to make the player feel bad it just doesn't work out. I essentially enjoyed three sections of this game and that's about it. The rest was just a gray puddle of indifference in my mind. The graphics are really beautiful though, I guess I can give the developers that. This is a pretty game for sure. Overall though there's not very many things I can say I enjoyed about this game without getting into spoilers. Very disappointing sequel and I can see why so many people are upset with it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Abby did things that made her as bad as Ellie yet the story overlooked it, gave her a happy ending and constantly tried to emotionally manipulate the player into feeling sympathy towards her (One example being how it showed Abby freeing a zebra from barbed wires while you're forced to put down a dog while playing as Ellie making a comparison on how Abby is "Good to animals so she must be a misinterpreted saint) anyone who's "good" or "misunderstood" doesn't beat a person into a bloody pulp and force them to watch their surrogate father who they grew up with get killed in front of them in the most demeaning and brutal way. Even the only potential the story had of giving us a satisfying ending and redeeming its jumbled mess of story was ruined by Ellie leaving behind Dina and her child to go after Abby. She then proceeds to get her fingers bit off (making her not being able to play the guitar) and then in a totally unforeseen turn of events, lets Abby go and because she decided to be the better person and not start another cycle of revenge (Spoiler alert) SHE was the one that suffered in the end. Joel also did something similar, that thing is him saving Abby from the horde of infected and ultimately paying the price for it. It's as if the game is constantly chiding the characters it's trying to get you to dislike for being good people while at the same exact time chiding them based on actions they have been forced to take when they get stuck in a moral dilemma. while Abby, the bully that doesn't genuinely seem remorseful when faced with bad decisions she isn't even forced to take or is apathetic when someone outside her colourful and inclusive cast of friends dies, is constantly held in a moral high ground; never going through a redemption arc and is Immune to anything that makes her an evil person. Speaking of evil people, lets take a moment to talk about Joel, the redheaded stepdaughter of TLOU2. A Cynical and depressed old man whose daughter (Aka Ellie) was forcibly being experimented on (Sidenote: IDGAF about humanity being saved, that still wouldn't have condemned Ellie's death if it happened. Her life isn't any less important than a few hundred that will only continue to live in a dystopian society with infected roaming it) now in this universe's bleak moral values you would expect that saving your daughter and killing her captors is a sane thing to do, right? WRONG! Joel, a character loved by fans unlike Abby gets killed due to this action. Though say if Ellie *did* get killed by said captors wouldn't the masses immediately ignore the fact that they killed a 14-year-old girl and hail them as a heros (See the double standards here?). That's why the developers fail to make us players hate Joel. The death of those fireflies from the first game isn't something we cared about in the first game so why should we suddenly do now? This game is a visually stunning, polished hot garbage with a world that is in a constant existential crisis not able to decide whether it should be linear or open also the controls are so tediously easy that it makes you feel like you're watching an over-glorified Hollywood movie rather than playing a videogame. This game used to be praised for its "bittersweet" story even sparking the debate at the time it got released on whether or not video games should be considered art. but sadly that in no way applies to TLOU2 and TLOU2 deserves no way near a perfect score. Whoever gave it that just proved to everyone how an utter joke game journalism really is and how nobody should trust them when all they ever did was base their ratings on propaganda and personal "preferences" in the game that doesn't apply to the majority of it's intended audience. When Rockstar is able to pump out every 5 years or so a game with phenomenal storytelling yet make it a perfect open-world sandbox then it becomes clear that whoever spent 7 years writing this isn't very competent and any excuses from naughty dog's side become stale. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A sore disappointment.
I loved the first Last of Us, finished it twice and owned two copies. I saw the leaks for the Last of Us part 2 but I went in with an open mind which is what Neil Druckmann wanted. I disliked the game and hated the story. Now the reason the game isn’t a lower score is due to the improvements of the gameplay, UI, graphics etc. The sound and music were also phenomenal. The flashbacks were great but also teased the fans with what the story should have been focusing more on. This is a story driven game therefore the storyline makes up a large portion of the review. The story left a lot to be desired and while it had some great moments dotted throughout the rest was a mess.
    - Characters like Joel and Tommy acting completely out of character in order to drive the revenge plot for Ellie was just poor writing. And no the “they were living an easier life in Jackson doesn’t cut it” they’re still living in a zombie apocalypse in a bigger settlement with regular patrols and security which would indicate an even greater need for caution. Also Joel was a careful character before the whole outbreak as seen in the start of the first game where he avoided helping a family because he needed to protect Tommy and Sarah and this is before he even becomes a survivor for 20 years and lives as a smugglers during the rest of the outbreak. - Forced events and more stupidity, Tommy and Jesse leaving the map on the ground so Abby can conveniently track them to their exact location. Jesse getting killed off just so Ellie can have her utopia with Dina, Joel dying early on for mere shock value, and as touched on before he died in a poorly written fashion that was not only disrespectful to his character but also insulting to the fans.

    - Cycle of revenge and forgiveness was done poorly. If your going to make it at matter of perspective then perhaps don’t have Abby kill Joel in the first 2 hours and then have the players switch mid game to try and get us to sympathise with Abby who brutally murdered the most beloved protagonist infront of the second most beloved protagonist. The sequencing of events in this game is a new level of stupidity. Also since Ellie ends up losing more than Abby does and actually showing remorse for her victims it makes the theme and cycle of violence rather pointless and futile for the player. It actually shows that you should end the cycle of violence through killing all your enemies therefore no one can get ‘revenge’.

    - Forcing the player to play as Joel’s killer for half the game is just **** honestly, and to make things worse you have to beat the **** out of Ellie and shoot Tommy, this isn’t fun, this isn’t entertaining, this isn’t even good from a story point of view. It’s lame and piss poor. I’m
not going to care for some random stranger who wanted revenge for her dad, EVEN though her dad was about to kill a child without the child’s consent and Joel killed Abbys father not out of malice or hatred but because he was defending Ellie who he viewed as a daughter. The attempts to sympathise with Abby are shallow and poor. I would rather Tommy and Ellie hunt Abby and kill her while Ellie deals with how Joel lied to her, then Joel could sacrifice himself and thus ultimately being forgiven by Ellie in the process. Hell it would of been cooler to play as Tommy and Ellie’s instead of Abby.

    - Anti climatic ending and **** loads of depression because why not? Tommy is now divorced and bitter becaaause why not, Ellie is left alone which is the thing she feared the most. She’s missing two fingers and can’t even play the guitar which is one of her last connections with Joel, Dina left Ellie. Joel and Ellie never reconciled or even got the chance to because of the wonderful and peeerfrctly written character Abby. Let’s just make all our main characters suffer and show how bad revenge... yet the woman who starts all this gets to have her ****ty mirror relationship of Joel and Ellie with Lev and to continue living her life with no guilt nor remorse for anything she’s done unlike Ellie. There’s a lot more to add but not enough space, the lying and false marketing by baiting players with Joel, Ellie acting like a **** to Joel for so long when all he is doing is helping her (though she does have some reason to remain angry but it’s overdone). Pregnant women fighting in a warzone between warring factions?? It’s just so tiresome to play this game and it sucks all your emotions out and makes you question why you even played it in the first place.

A massive disappointment and a complete massacre of the characters from the first game. The Last of Us 2 is not a game I think I or many others would consider playing again.

The only plausible conjecture I can currently think of is that the developers, or maybe the director, execrates the Last of US 1, despite its grand reputation. Thus, the Last of Us 2 became a work of flagrant animosity, created and created only for the sake of extirpating everything they have built in the first game, which in turn produced an inevitable contrivance.

Due to the horrendous storytelling, which greatly lacked depth and details, people could not possible get the slightest immersion into the story and the protagonists. Yes, we get what the messages, the sort of a moral dilemma the developers wanted to show off so ostentatiously. Nevertheless, without any appropriate development, they are nothing but a mediocre platitude, an overused cliche.

Therefore, one would naturally ask oneself - do I really need to pay to feel miserable and abject? It is a perfectly rational and reasonable question because these two emotions are the only message within the game. Through demolishing what they have successfully built in the first game, and distorting the story just for the sake of going against the anticipations, this 'product' provides nothing but discomfort and despair.

In conclusion, the Last of US 2 is not a game. It is a direct and flagrant vituperation from the developers.

So upon beating this game I can already say I can see why so many people are disappointed, I was also pretty disappointed, so I'll go over the good then the bad. And I would not reccomend the game to anyone tbh especially fans of the first this was sad to come back to after 7 years I'd rather go back and play the first game 10 more times than play this games ng+

So for one positive about the game is of course the graphics and the soundtrack and personally that was really the extent of what made it good, because I will tell you that if the 1st game had these graphics this game would be literal garbage. And now for the bad which there is plenty of wrong with this game like the factthat the false advertisement that players would see more ellie and Joel which is just wrong and you can call it protecting the story but the reality is that half of the people would most likely not buy the game if they didnt see Joel or ellie together, and that was so wrong on his part and personally I feel that we deserve a redo or a dlc but they claimed no dlc, another problem is that they kill Joel off at the very start of the game which was very disappointing rather than sad at the moment I was just mad that ellie didnt just walk in and shoot instead she walk up and gets rustled to the ground, and then watched Joel get beaten with a golf club which is very distasteful, it's like they felt like they needed to kill Joel off for something to happen they could've killed dina off to start the revenge plot that was forced into your brain a million times, and then Joel showing up where Jesse does would've been a true trailer and people would've been more happy, then you can see Joel and ellie trying to reconnect but acting distant due to what happened in the past and you can find out about dina through flashbacks and then Jesse wouldve had more of a reason to go since it was his ex, but then they decided to make you play as abby and try to see her side which killed the game for me I wanted to quit playing right there but I gave it a chance and it didnt get better the only good thing that happened was yara and levs part felt pretty interesting and that was about it, and the cut from ellie getting a gun pointed at her to seeing a flashback was horrible honestly idk what you were thinking, then you make us fight ellie? Like idc if ellie is bad and abby is good I'm connected with Joel and ellie not abby so I dont want to fight her at all, so during my playthrough I stood there and let her kill me to see maybe it will change something but nope, you basically beat ellie to a pulp and wouldve slit dinas throat if level wasnt there to stop her she is such an unlikable character who feels no rebound to her actions, then ellie spares her after murdering hundreds of people for what, even though at that point i lost all interest in the game and didnt even feel like killing her anymore I just wanted this trainwreck to be over already, not to mention they basically want you to hate ellie for killing people even though half of them were self defense or provocation, but this wasnt a last of us game as far as I'm concerned and I definitely dont want a part 3 unless they are going to have Joel and ellie rather than abby and lev, and one other thing is that the characters that were new were completely bland and forgetful we didnt feel a connection between any of them Jesse was just forgotten when he died dina leaves and is never seen again it felt like she was there just to show ellie still likes girls and to keep her from getting to Joel quicker, and every charcter onabbys side sucked honestly, and characters acted completely different idc what Neil says Joel was a smuggler for years he wouldn't let his guard down and the fact that abby knew his whole name and she could tell it was him and where he was from was complete bs, she never saw Joel or ellie, or Tommy, she only heard his first name and nothing else so it seems impossible to track him and immediately know this random guy who just saved you is the Joel that killed your dad, it had so many plot holes it felt rushed even though u had 7 years that's sad but aging it doesnt deserve a 10 or a 0 review it wasnt the worst game but you have high expectations due to the trailers and since it is called the last of us, so I'm being generous giving a 6 ,,t,tt

    - There are lots of plotholes that leaves to think that the story has been re-written multiple times
    - The " first twist " is extremely cheap and goes against character building that was done in the first game. It feels forced because Joel makes decisions that he would never do otherwise.
    - The ending and the morale of the story makes no sense when you think back at what the main character has done to get there.

If we could compare The Last of Us 2 to a movie, it would be an extremely high budget movie, with the best actors, the best CGI, but written by someone with no experience.

Also, it's hard to support a game brought by a man that fired most of the people that created The Last of Us 1 and the Uncharted series over creative differences..

Whilst playing part 2 I thoroughly enjoyed the graphics and details. The added fighting and weapon upgrades and the acting. But the storyline absolutely sucked. Not only was the main protagonist of the first game killed off but I then had to play half of the game as his killer, . Which only made me lose interest even more. I had no sympathy for Abby, I did not want to see any development or know her background I hated it that much! Naughty dog had clearly taken a number of aspects that were used in Uncharted which is understandable but unnecessary. I feel that naughty dog simply could not come up with a long enough storyline to compete with part 1 that they decided to take the risk of making the player play abbey for 10 hours. And in my opinion was a stupid risk that ruined the game for me! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yeah, personally I didn’t really enjoy the game.
It’s not just the Joel death for me, I think most people expected him to die in the second game but I think they executed it poorly.

I thought the newer characters were pretty eh, I kinda felt like Dina and Ellie's relationship was pretty cringy (nothing to do with them being a same-sex couple) I just didn't feel the connection between them, it kinda felt forced. I liked Jesse, I thought he had potential to grow as a character, but they killed him in the most crappy shock value way.

But I think the biggest issue with this game is the sloppy organization of how you see events take place.

Also the ending felt extremely dragged on, I felt like the game had plenty of time to show that Ellie learned that revenge is bad, and they could have just ended it with her and Dina living on the farm, but they really wanted to drive home the point that revenge is bad, so Ellie has to go try to kill Abby. Which if you're gonna go with that then you really need to go through with it. Have Ellie kill Abby, and lose everyone in the process, but instead she lets her live, and loses everyone in the process anyways. Otherwise, if they wanted to keep Abby alive, they could have ended the game on the farm with Ellie realizing that revenge isn't a good path.

Overall I’d rate The Last of Us 2 a 4 out of 10 but I definitely think it had the potential to be an 8 out of 10.

I honestly can't trust any critic giving this a 100 score because this is not a perfect game in any way. I also think the upgrading of weapons was made too long a process in this and was tedious to sit through over and over again.

The story itself isn't the best and is a little too on the nose at time as they try to shove the point down your throat, rather than letting the gamer get to the conclusions they want them to by themselves. I feel they might have been able to up the score of this game to a 6/7 if they had did a better job with the games timeline. Some of the choices they made confused me quite a lot. This would have worked better if they had chopped and changed the timeline. Overall I didn't love the story, I felt the pacing was off as you played due to decisions they made, the ending (whilst it left me an emotional, crying mess) was bitterly disappointing and left me feeling numb about the whole thing. You can kind of see what they were going for but it didn't land at all given the decisions they made of when characters would be introduced. At about the 50% mark you reach a point where you are suddenly just trying to get through a part of the game, not really caring or paying attention to what is going on as you work to get back to a part you care even 2% about. Just overall not a game I can say I enjoyed playing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I actually enjoyed the first half of the game think the gameplay and the graphics are very good and the decorations are beautiful and varied. However, a story-based game definitely must have a much better story and character development. the characters of Ellie and Tommy are not developed enough. To me, what completely ruins the game is forcing you to play as Abby for like 10-15 hours (almost half of the game) right before the main story's climax. I don't know if anybody else felt like I did, but I couldn't care less about Abby's character and story, and I never got to empathize with her, I think is what the writers were aiming for. I was there for Ellie, the only thing I was thingking about while I was playing abby was Ellie I just wanted to go back to her and fight by her side. I think if they had just removed that part from the game, it would be much better. I feel like everything's been done to make Joel and Ellie look bad. It's the wrost ending i've seen. I can't express how disappointed I am right now, after 7 years of waiting. Lazy and amateur writing, the developers had pure gold in their hands, and threw it away. Maybe they shouldn't have made a second game after all. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I want to start by saying what I did enjoy about the game; visually, this game is ways ahead of anything I’ve seen on this system, it’s crazy to think what it would’ve looked like on next gen. Attention to detail on shading, lighting, combat, it was top tier. The first 13 hours of this game we’re magnificent. They did a good job at not making anything feel stale as tome went by, rewarded players who tirelessly loot, and reconnected with that Last of Us feel where at times the character you love makes rash decisions that you’re just along with for the ride. Okay now that that’s out of the way, let’s move on to the cluster **** and **** show that is the writing. By now it’s no surprise anymore that we have to extensively play as Brock Lesnar... I mean Abby, the baby silverback gorilla who violently murders Joel. Throughout Abbys gameplay it’s clear there are two motives the devs are trying to shove down your throat; 1) the whole perspective of Joel’s murder, therefore seeing the events that transpired through Abby’s eyes. 2) in that, there is a feeling they are trying to force you to sympathize and forgive Abby as a player. Now all jokes aside, it’s something they had all the elements to almost pull off but execution was subpar. They have you jump into her shoes after killing one of the only two likable new characters. And 30 minutes after being given the reigns to Abby’s lenses, they show you Joel’s murder again. I understand the point was to show how she had a motive debatably as real as Ellie’s. But the problem with it (as is apparent throughout the story) is that the portrayal shows little emotion of lack of satisfaction having accomplished her goal, or questioning of self motives or decisions as is apparent when Ellie commits similar acts. Then toward the end of Abby’s completely dragged out campaign they force you to nearly kill Ellie, beating her severely and almost killing Dina. Granted, this is after Abby discovers Ellie murdered a number of her companions. But again. As a player I didn’t give a single f**k about any of those deaths because the story failed to have me connect with Abby. I understand but I didn’t care. They did all of this after you see her murder a beloved character. Best analogy I can give us this: if your father or any other family member was mercilessly murdered and tortured in front of you, by someone who’s life he had saved 1 hour ago, you WOULD NOT CARE about his killers background or motives. Even if you discovered your father killed the others years ago. And that’s the fundamental problem. Joel wasn’t a messiah or prefect or by any means a great man. But I’m connected to him and have a love for him and Ellie. So no matter wtf is said or done I can understand but I’m not gonna care about Abby or forgive her. Even though I’ve already spoiled aspects of the game I won’t spoil the exact details of the very end. But it was so anticlimactic and unnecessary. The game could’ve ended a hour or two earlier when Tommy visited the farm, and could’ve conveyed that Ellie learned the same lesson or finally reached the deeper understanding. Without losing everything. Or even after the kitchen scene before California, and that whole section could’ve been a part of Part 3 and expanded upon it. But no. All it did was kind of frustrate and confuse the life out of players. To wrap this up, again I say, I think this game has all of the scenes and elements to be a great game. To really convey the message and meaning they are trying to. But the execution was simply lack luster, ineffective, and drawn out. Caused by a multitude of things from forced agendas (i.e. Ellie kill dog = she’s bad. Abby save Zebra = she’s good) to poorly placed scenes and encounters that, if rotated around, could better tell the story. NOTE: I did just finish the game a few hours ago. We all know that given time our perspectives can change. So in a week I may see some bigger picture and think this falls more in the 6 or 7 range, or I may “dig my heels in the ground” and have my stance affirmed. These are my opinions. The only way to know for sure is to play for yourself. Just rent it. Or wait for a price drop. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Firstly i just want to say that i’m a huge fan of the first game and have played that from initial release all the way up until release for this game. My (as well as many others) problem with this game is the story. I loved the gruesome gameplay, a few of the Memorable characters, and the next-gen level graphics but the story just doesn’t do it for me. There were so many more questions that were left unanswered from the first game, yet they only really touched on one. Which honestly seems more like a sub-plot when you sit back and view the story in it’s entirety. Most of the game just follows ellie and abby’s revenge trope but the theme of revenge isn’t some big profound idea, not saying that it’s imperative the devs made the theme something unheard of, or new but they could’ve atleast made it SEEM like they had the fans from the original in mind. The story is made to try and make you see both sides of what revenge can do and the game wants you to sympathize with abby, here’s the issue(s) with that. Abby is a psychopath, she was willing to kill the man that saved her life solely because of his first name and proceeds to kill said man in front of his brother and surrogate daughter. She sleeps with a pregnant woman's boyfriend, and i’ll also add that she basically got both of them killed when she decided to bring them to new jackson, all so she could kill one man. She would’ve killed a pregnant woman herself, i guess to “get even” and was only stopped once a 14 year old boy told her not to. Lastly she betrays her entire faction, which results with the leader of her community getting shot to death. Abby has saved lives though, with the 2 being lev and yara (she didn’t save yara per se more as so she bought her some time). Shes been shown to express genuine emotion at times e.g. grief, fear, concern, sadness, all of which makes her seem more realistic and in a way it made me actually like abby. To an extent. With that out of the way, lets talk about the god awful ending. Number one it doesn’t make sense that a flashback is what stops ellie from killing abby because we’ve had flashbacks with joel throughout most of the game, so why would a literal 2 second flashback of joel stop ellie from completing her goal at one of the most crucial moments. Ellie basically travelled across the world to get to her and just decides to let her go. Which brings me to my next point, with me knowing how ellie killed david in the first game, it doesn’t really seem like ellie to just not kill someone that tried to kill her. Especially because that person killed the one person that saved her, and cared for her like she was his own. Again, right in front of her. Abby was basically served on a platter for ellie but in the end ellie basically ends up saving her. Its assumed that abby and lev made it to their destination, because of the beached boat with a bright and sunny background which before was a floating boat with a dark and gloomy background. While ellie is left with nothing, since Dina left her, and she cant even play the guitar because abby bit off 2 of her fingers. We get a view from a window and see ellie walk into the wilderness so I’M assuming she’s heading to new jackson to where im guess dina went. Which gives ellie something to fight for, like joel said in the end of the first game. Which he said was crucial for survival. Tommy is divorced and crippled so there’s that. This is all speculation because realistically there would be no way dina could survive in a world like that with a child. Unless said child dies. It’s atleast nice to know that abby probably learned not to go killing random people just to get revenge. Unless she wants to end up emotionally broken because all of her friends and people she has loved or cared about have been decimated. In the end I felt emotionally drained and ended up not caring for ellie, or anybody else that i either once did care about or took interest in. Except Bill, he has a small cameo in the game and he’ll always hold a place in my hear. Anyway the devs really made sure to destroy something that alot of people once cared deeply about. I’m gonna keep playing the game tho because the gameplay is **** immaculate Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Upon finishing this game, I just felt a deep sense of disappointment. There was no lesson to be learned, there was no happiness to be attained, and the player isn't really left with any hope for the future of Ellie.

Being forced to play half the game as Abby who I had nothing but disdain for while the narrative clumsily tried to make me empathize with her was more annoying and frustrating than anything and made me walk away from the game a few times.

The whole theme of 'Revenge is bad!' is pretty clear, especially considering that the narrative feels the need to beat the player over the head with it constantly throughout the game, which is bothersome but also completely unnecessary considering we already know that, even though Abby gets her revenge and seems quite happy with it considering she never shows any kind of remorse, while Ellie who randomly decides to 'take the higher road' at the very end ends up having lost everyone she cares about, ends up with a permanently disfigured hand, and ends up alone (which she mentioned in the first game is her worst fear in the world).

Gameplay-wise, the game is at least mostly solid. There are a few basic formulaic puzzles that could probably do with some more variety, and the gunplay is clunky and inaccurate, but the character upgrades and gadgets are solid and can lead to some interesting tactics. The environments are also beautiful.

When it comes down to it though, The Last of US is a story-centric game, and Part II severely falls short compared to the original. The game didn't 'subvert expectations' it just punished the player and the characters and then left them with nothing but disappointment. That isn't brave or poetic storytelling, it's just bad.

Putting Joel in trailers in scenes where he isn't actually there or changing his and Ellies ages in the trailers isn't keeping players guessing or being mysterious, it's lying and it's false advertisement. It's tricking people into spending money on a game that the trailers have told them is one thing when it clearly isn't.

I really hope there isn't a Part III because based upon the end it looks like they'd try to force Abby and Lev on us as a Joel and Ellie replacement and as much as I liked Lev, I have no interest in that whatsoever.

Even the main topic of revenge is represented very inhumanly. So the only lesson that comes from the game is: "When someone kills someone you love during an apocalypse, it's perfectly right to plan his murder non-stop for a few years. When you find him, make sure you kill everyone who accidentally saw it, and if not, hope so that you will meet Ellie She will kill hundreds of people to get to you and not finish the job You have everything and she will lose everything Hooray, Joil destroyed - check, Ellie wreck - check, Abby great and amazing and she has everything she wanted - check

Throughout my playthrough, i'm left feeling miserable because of how i'm being forced to play Abby, and the fact that there has been minimal payoff for my actions throughout the game. I found myself jumping off of cliffs as Abby because I just hate her. On top of that, it makes me cringe at how hard they are trying to get you to like Abby and hate Ellie. The story, plot, and character development in this game is backwards and confusing. Other elements such as audio and gameplay are great, and this game has the best visuals I have ever seen. But because this games focuses on narrative, and yet does it so poorly, I must also rate it poorly. After finishing the game, I asked myself, "Was it worth it"? Expand

It would be acceptable as a standalone title but in reality the Last Of Us Part 2 story is nothing but a mediocre fan fiction.

И с ней у The Last of Us Part

It was something the had been done before in games, but the sum of its parts made it a game that for me was almost a 10/10 for me. When I heard that the sequel was finally coming out I was ecstatic. I was wanting to see the rest of the story of Joel and Ellie.

Then the leaks came out...oh boy the leaks. I don't give a crap if a character is gay or trans, but what matters is that they are wrote as a human being first not just some token character that we get so much of in today's media, but what we got was this....trainwreck.

As I said I wanted to like this game, I really did. This game had the potential to tell a great story. It tells a story, but the story it tells fell flat for me. Without going into details, I love a revenge plot. I have seen so many in movies and other games, but this one dropped the ball hard. However, I am not wanting to spoil the game for anyone out of respect for the players, not the company or its marketing.

This could have been a great sequel if it wasn't handled so poorly. Abby could have been a good character if they handled it better, Joel was all-but squandered, but Ellie I enjoyed. It was good to see her grow up, but then the last half of the game.....urgh.

That's why I have to give this game a 4. Graphically its fine, a good 7 out of 10, Gameplay is the same 7 out of 10, Story is an abysmal 3 out of 10. If this was a different IP I might have scored it higher with a 5 out of 10 or a 6. Yet, this is not a new IP. This is a sequel to one of the best games I have played and one that I have finished more than once just to find things i may have missed the first time. Sequels will always be judged more harshly by the fans of the previous installment. Many sequels will never be as good or even greater than the original.

Why the creators of this game hate us and hate the game they created. I will never buy another one of their games. This game left me depressed after finishing it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's very easy to get on your high horse and believe that your creation is too sophisticated for "people to get". That will make some people compelled to "get it", so they can feel brighter, or more open-minded than others. But there's nothing to "get". This game overstays its welcome by 15-20 hours. It's repetitive and extremely boring, trying so hard to shock you with one of the worst excuses for a story I have ever experienced in gaming. The sudden flashes of storytelling brilliance (the astronaut scene) only hold contrast to the bleak everything else. The devs have completely abandoned everything that made the first game the masterpiece that it was and filled this game with a lot of SJW stuff, for the sake of being edgy. Unmemorable, and even completely insufferable characters that you are forced to spend time with, and Ellie can easily make this list, too (I disliked her character arc just as much as I disliked Abby). By the end of this unfortunate 30 hours experience, I couldn't care less who dies and in which order. It is hard to believe that such a flop could possibly exist when you have unlimited resources, and top-notch talent on all frontlines of visuals, music, level design, and voice actors. But those things are never enough if there's no compelling story to tell, and I feel extremely sorry for the people that were overworked to create this game. You can put 10.000 plants and detail every piece of grime on a wall by hand, but that's not why we play games. And elementary school philosophy doesn't count as a compelling story. I regret every second I have spent in the second part of this game. I am extremely disappointed to say that. I will never buy another Naughty Dog title, as long as the current leaders stay in their place. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Como secuela de the last of us me parece muy muy mala.

That's why I love Nintendo & especially Mario. You watch the setup for the game and then you just play. If I want to watch a movie I'll watch a movie. If I want politics I'll read or watch some politics. I could stand the story in The Last Of Us because it was hopeful & conveyed maternal male instincts & loss. I'm a father myself & I could feel for Joel. I did not finish the game because the game play just wasn't fun enough for me to get through it. The story was good enough for me to go online and youtube how it ended. So emotional impact for the original game 9/10. Yet for the Last Of Us 2 I can say that I feel Joel should have given her to the Fireflys and been done with it. (but that would have been out of character right?). The semi-open part of the game is the BEST. Killing the Whistlers are this games' Clickers. And that's just sad in it's own ways. When human characters are scarier than the monsters you're doing something wrong. If you could cut out the story and just play the game it's a 6 or 7/10.
I suggest you just skip all the cutscenes and dialogue if you want a good experience. There is no hopefulness or positive emotional impact in this game. Kills are cool. Music your typical horror fare. So blaaah! With the exception of acoustic moments. Note, I did not finish this game either. Was not fun enough to get me through with a story I wanted to keep skipping. Also I didn't pay for it because I borrowed it from a friend who doesn't want it back.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went into this with an open mind and no matter how much I tried this game just did not feel like I was playing The Last of Us at all. This is Part Two, the second half following an amazing first half. The only times I felt like I was playing The Last of Us was when there was a flashback between Ellie and Joel. That's when I was emotional and was invested in the story, getting lost in the flashback. We have this incredible ending to the first part, and it leaves you wondering- what happens to these two after this? Instead we're surprised with a new character who takes up half of the game with Ellie and Joel's relationship taking a back seat. The characters in the first game are so memorable, and have so much depth. The characters in Part 2 are forgettable, there are moments that they die and I don't even care about it. When Henry from the first game shot himself I was left in awe with my jaw dropped. The game tries to develop these new relationships, but the development is not there and it just feels forced or lacking. Abby and Ellie's timelines barely connect so when we switch to Abby it feels like I'm playing a completely different game with a character I find hard to like. I did not care at all for a chunk of her story being about a love triangle. At one point I asked myself "am I even playing The Last of Us?" It may have been more interesting if Abby and Ellie's stories connected more. Abby's part feels like a chore because I feel her backstory is pointless. I understand her motivations, I understand she is the human on the other side of bad things we've done as Joel, but I don't care about it- especially for 10 hours. I could never play this game a second time due to Abby's part. By the time we get back to playing as Ellie, I have such a complete disconnect from the game. It's like the game wanted me to somehow gather the same momentum and investment I had from Ellie's part that I played over 10 hours ago. I could go on and on but I just was really disappointed. I understand what they were trying to do, unfortunately for me, it didn't do anything for me. I understand people worked hard for years on this game, and the game looks great, the gameplay is fun, but the story- the most important part to me, and an important part in a character driven game, was not there for me. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay is the only reason this game gets a rating higher than 1. There is no character development for the new characters and the ending is horrible. You play as Abby for ten hours which is way too long and Joel gets tortured to death in the first two hours of the game. The plot is a generic revenge is bad lesson. The game should not be as long as 20 hours, the first game wasn’t near as long and it was perfect. ND tries to make you feel sympathy for Abby by revealing the surgeon from the first game as her father but it fails miserably. After you are done traveling 12 hours as Ellie to find Abby in Santa Barbara you don’t even kill her, that would have been the perfect moment for a choice. When Ellie arrives back at the farm every one has left which makes the entire story pointless. They could have made the game so much better if they made Tommy die and Joel travels with Ellie for vengeance. At the end they confront Tommy’s killer and the killer shoots at Ellie but Joel jumps in front of Ellie takes the bullet and shoots the killer. Joel’s last dying breath would be I’m sorry and Ellie would say I forgive you, (this is referencing the hospital). When Ellie arrives in Jackson everyone there is infected and Ellie has to kill everybody she once called family. Expand

Of course "professional reviewers" felt compelled to "love" this game afraid to be called misogynist or not PC by people who don't even play games. I'll never play another game from this franchise and I'll wait for the reviews for the next naughty dog game before buying it. I'll not make the same mistake again. This is the Terminator Dark Fate of video games. Expand

Good gameplay, it had its very interesting moments, if you ignore the history; it felt really forced all of the "cycle of revenge", there were ways more better to represent it, im sure of it, the graphics were truly beatiful, but since this is a story-driven game, im focusing on this aspect for my rating, i expected more tought on the history, since this is an AAA, good game, but not an 10/10. The story however takes massive gaps and simply relies too heavily on coincidental plot points and lazy dialogue to move forward, as well as a very odd order of events and far too stretched out overall arch. The game play itself is great but designed to be paired with an amazing motivating narrative which is frankly just missing altogether, which leads to it becoming repetitive and very linear.

Disappointing in so many ways with this sequel to arguably one of the greatest games of all time and the hallmark of storytelling in video games as a media.

This is my first ever game review. I had read a lot about the game before hand and still reading things about it, after re-selling the game upon finishing it. The game is not as bad as some are same, but it is also not as good as some are also saying.
Aside from the storyline which I had little problem with ( although not the best by any means ), there are 3 major flaws.

1- not how Joel dies, in fact I liked the d the fact that I was quite brutal. I was already expecting him to die. It is NOT how he dies, it is the fact that he dies within 2 hours of the game. The main character of the last of us dies within the first 2 hours of the game Let that sink in. Its like Harry Potter dying in the first 20 minutes of the film. That he died? Fine. But could they not have come up with something later down the line?.

2- I've thought this long and hard. Could they not have come up with the option to play abby? Because honest to god, it is not the fact that I genuinely did not for one second feel like playing baby. Her story line is indeed fun. You get to explore the world a bit more. And yet, I still had no emotional connection to her. At all. Being forced to play a character I do NOT want to play is not fun.

3- I heard Neil Druckman does not use fun to describe this game. Whatever happened to video games? To the enjoyment of playing game and forgetting the real world. I want everybody to finish reading this review and if you have not yet played the game, play it and ask yourself., did you, at any point had any fun playing it? Because I speak for myself when I say. Not at all did I have any fun. I was always on edge. Always waiting for something. I literally did not smile at all, unless it was a ellie/joel flashback. It was a horrible feeling. And it is a game I could never play twice. Again, not because of the storyline. But the fun was literally vacuumed out of that game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I want to start by saying that I love the first Last of us and how good the story and gameplay was. The accomplishment of making a genre done to death interesting was particularly its greatest strength.

The second game carries over that amazing ability on its gameplay, the story? No not even close.
Keep in mind that when you play this game, you should come in with very low expectations. Right off from the bat in just the first hour, they kill off Joel and you set out to get revenge. Only when you reach the person that killed him(Abby) you start playing a flashback ALL the way before the events set up. The issue with this direction is that it kills the pacing and the tension is gone because a lot of the characters you see with her are people Ellie has already killed, so there is no reason to care about them that much. So when it reaches that point of the game you feel very bored. However the worst of that is the ending, Ellie kills so many people only for her to suddenly "stop" and not kill Abby. While I understand this is what they are going for, that does not mean it was executed properly. So the story is a bust in many ways from the pacing, to characters that aren't likable or interesting, to the plot points they never talk about.

Now the gameplay. Its very similar to the first last of us, while it does Improve a lot of visuals as well as kill animations. Its still the same as before albeit longer. This isn't bad necessarily but I wish they innovated a bit more. Overall my rating is a 4/10 for this game. Its not the worst I've ever played but its a huge disappointment

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok so I'll start off with the good things it's beautiful , a very clean looking game, little games with the guitar and the snowball fights were fun, but I thk the best thing about this game was the flashbacks and if could guess why it's bc Joel and Ellie were together they had the bond with each other that's what I thk is the best part of it all. Now 2 the bad things Joel's death and I would have been ok with him dying but not like that they could have made a build up let u play as Ellie and Abby through the game without Joel dying but then at the end Abby kills Joel and then u hate Abby even after playing as her but u still had time with Joel before he died . But they kill joel like 2 hrs in and they make u play as Abby 4 10-12 hrs, yeah great move on them. They don't give anything new except 4 going prone. Everything bad happens 2 Ellie but Abby has everything compared 2 Ellie. Abby even gets better guns. And they try 2 make u sympathize 4 her and make u like her when her and her whole crew are boring af. Ellie lost everything by the end and u don't even get a choice 2 kill Abby. They put an unnecessary sex scene, and they r somehow aloud 2 put **** on the game when no other game can have a butt cheek out. The game is poorly paced and is so repetitive and boring. If I remember correctly I thk only 1 chick died and it was the pregnant 1, and she goes on missions with u with a baby, she's climbing things with a baby how dumb is that. Their is nothing 2 keep u motivated besides killing Abby in the end but u don't get 2 so yeah. The whole reason why You 1 was so good was bc of Why couldn't they at least gave us a choice, but now their gonna milk the series and im not getting the last of us or 3. This games story is predictable, poorly written and not believable in the slightest. U can hate me all u want but I don't give **** what u thk it's my opinion and 80% of everyone elses. Easy 4/10 Expand

The constant narrative switching both between characters and throughout the timeline makes investing in the story undesirable. The characters and their designs have unrealistic priorities and intentions, that are not believable in the setting of the story. The environmental design, and the interactions the player has with it, is a major redeeming value. However, the AI systems still operates on a dull and predictably stupid level.

The Last of Us Part II is a tumultuous mess, but at least it's a pretty mess.

To preface I didn't enjoy this game.

The game play mechanics are pretty much identical to those of the original TLOU. If it ain't broke don't fix it sort of thing, really made it easy to just jump back into the world after playing the original. The graphics of this game are phenomenonal. And I'm sure that the eventual remaster on ps5 will be incredible too, however I don't believe I'll

The storyline to me fails to deliver in a similar way to the previous game, for a story driven game this is quite problematic. Characters were not really fleshed out, and returning characters felt different to the point that I believe if they had just made this game with a whole new cast of characters it would make more sense. Even saying that particular character choices and storylines just didn't feel like they were made to a good standard. The pacing additionally felt strange with story points from the start of the game are only being concluded much later at which point I had lost interest in following, as the lack of focus made it seem like they were irrelevant.

In summary the story disappointed me, and I hope the multiplayer experience gives me a reason to keep the game

The sound design is top notch, and the animation as well, but its buried by an uninteresting story that borrows attention only from the characters established in the first one, and even fails to keep that interest going through the extremely long playtime. Not as visually striking as expected on my ps4 pro with a 4K HDR setup. HZD and GOW look way better

There is less fighting for survival against clickers and more brutally murdering humans (and dogs) for revenge and whatnot. And you better prepare to feel guilty about it through flashbacks. It is so concerned with teaching you a lesson, it fails to tell a coherent story. What you loved in the original is not here in the sequel.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
