This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was cautious going into this game due to the poor way ND treated concerned fans when the first big trailer hits. After playing it, I with that forced politics agenda was the least of this games problem. I didn't think I could hate a game so deeply despite loving everything about the first one.

Everything you loved about the first game is gone. Ellie has become dull, and Joels death felt like being spat in the face and then laughed at as some poor excuse to create a revenge story that nobody wanted or asked for. Every subtle storytelling part (such as it being up to the player to interpret Joel and Tess' relationship) is gone and instead shoved in your face for the entire ride.

Joels death is supposed to make you want Abby dead, however I couldn't muster up any feelings towards this random new chick, I could only hate the director for making that choice.
There are no interesting contrast between the new characters, only violence, dullness and entire lack of character development not to mention the countless plotholes that all brings the game to nothing but a frustrating experience for all the wrong reasons.

As for the "feminist agenda" that I (as a female for what it's worth) was feeling cautious about, it's sad to see that the only male character that gets to be useful and not a douchebag is the trans one. Hell it doesn't even make sense that there are so many female enemies when the first game empathized on women being somewhat few and far between, which was the whole point with Davids arc with Ellie and Marlenes concern when trying to talk sense into Joel in the end.

The sadistic violence didn't even matter much to me when killing people, but then the dogs showed up. While logically it makes sense, it ruined my personal experience. I didn't like killing them and tried to avoid it, which forced me to skip out on any even moderately aggressive approach in playstyle - or be forced to watch a dog get slashed with a machete or blown to bits by a bomb instead. You're even forced to kill one during a cutscene, then barely an hour later the game puts you in an Abby flashback where you have a loving interaction with that very dog as a lazy and unfair form of guilt trip. The dogs even have names shout out if you kill them, just so you can recognize them in Abbys part.

The game tries too hard to make you feel like a bad person for things you barely have any say in.
It is when you think you're about to be done, that you get put back behind the wheel of Abby for another 10+ hours, where the game tries to prove to you what a good person she is and how much she's been developing while Ellie is out on a blind quest for revenge. They wanted you to initially hate her and soften up through this (which again, I never hated her, I simply just didn't care), but everything about her life and sob-story regarding Joel just makes her a massive hypocrite.
Despite this however, I often found myself thinking that she -is- likeable if she hadn't been part of a **** revenge story.
The thing is, Abby part if it had been a full lenght game wouldn't have been as bad at all, I might even have liked it depending on how such a story would have progressed if Joel and Ellie had never been any part of it.
The game had a few nice gems and admittedly beautiful environment and acting, and I welcomed a slightly improved but overall same type of gameplay mechanics. The story - in this story and character-driven game - is just such a massive slap to the face over and over. The ending was in itself incredibly strange and out of place, so I will only hope that they leave the franchise be or make an entirely new cast of characters and put more effort into what people loved about the first one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There are several issues wrong with The Last of Us part 2. I had just finished the game and even played the first in order to better grasp the differences. What is heard a lot is Joel "killed so many people and many are after him for his violent life. If you had actually played the first game, you would know that when encountering the hunters. Joel had explained he was on both sides just trying to survive for the past 20 years with his brother. The hunters were a murderous group that killed innocent travelers to simply rob them. I would hardly consider that Joel "wronging" people. Another mentioned fact is the vaccine, maybe it was an oversight by both creators of first and second game but I actually work health care, there is no vaccine for fungi, it has not been made feasible yet, as well as the fact that killing Ellie makes no sense because finishing a vaccine would entail the blood, not the brain, if that was the case look at any infected and use that brain, her blood would be key, her neutrophils in particular. As for the controversial hospital scenario, it was left ambiguous for a reason; in fact you could actually choose not to kill the NPC (Abby's dad I suppose) by shooting in the leg, it does not even count towards a kill in the final counts of the game. Now, on to story of the first one; Joel had lost his daughter due to a soldier with orders to kill stragglers, leading to a bitter life of survival. Joel travelled across the country with a young girl reminiscent of his daughter, at first apprehensive and unwilling, culminating to a larger crescendo of love and finding a reason to live. That is what the game had done correctly from the first, this connection and character development of Joel and Ellie, told masterfully, even bringing strong emotion to mind when playing, it was quite beautiful. Now on to the second one.

Here is the issue, this game lacks the ability to be able to elicit the same emotions as the first. The character development was haphazard to say the least; once you become attached to a character, they are killed, Jesse is a prime example of this. It is worth noting as well that Abby is now guilty (to the audience) of what Joel did, by murdering someone's father. Same can be said of both; any single NPC could be someone's father making Abby's revenge point essentially moot. Abby even goes on to explain that she had let them live, oh really? You only killed her father figure and the brother of the guy you had let live; keep in mind this is the apocalypse, loose ends can cause very disastrous in a world such as this. That is not the only problem with the story, the stereotyping of the characters is very baffling and never mentioned. Look at Manny, the racist depiction of him being hispanic, it automatically makes him a womanizer? Mel is another baffling choice, we clearly see that the WLF have the resources for soldiers, why in gods name would someone send out a pregnant woman into the field, who is a doctor no less! That makes her invaluable to the organization. Owen, who seemed to be the only moral person, and I say this loosely having gotten Mel pregnant and then having sex with Abby, does not even warrant further characterization; where does he fit in with Abby's life? Who or what was his background? Like Jesse that was squandered. The pacing of the game is off as well, why would you allow Joel tortured and killed, and then make the player play as his killer, who clearly had severe psychopathic, sociopathic, and bipolar tendencies? So we are to believe she is an angel in her play through? Next is Abby's father, not a single person is questioning the fact that he is willing to murder a 14 year old without consent from the girl or her guardian Joel. Also within the lore, they have killed others with 0 success and you expect us to believe killing Ellie would magically have a 100% success rate? I am sorry but Abby's father has to be the worst Doctor of all time, where are his fellows, residents, or even nurses that are continuing his research and teaching his research? Every doctor and surgeon has those and passes that knowledge so how is he the only one? Every character was out of character as well, Tommy was wishy-washy where in the first game Joel had said his brother is impulsive. Ellie was a free spirit that saw the levity in everything, even before Joel's death was still dark and bleak. In the first game Ellie knew that Joel had lied to her, how else does someone end up naked in a hospital gown in a fast driving car without incident? The game does not make sense, maybe if the pacing was different, that would work, like play as Abby first perhaps? Or since Joel saved your life, since the game makes clear that Abby is so moral since Joel saved her life numerous times at the beginning, does that not earn a temporary reprieve? Joel and Tommy survived 20 years on caution, so why throw that away for a random group of armed people you don't know? The writing was poor, period.

This isn't the game many of us wanted, but this is the story that ND wanted to tell. There are some truly great moments, but this game effectively destroyed everything and everyone that like minded fans loved from the first game. I think we all expected Joel to die. This was supposed to be Ellie's story. What we got was a pointless, miserable first half of the game with Ellie, and an action-packed kick-ass (save for a few moments that dragged on and on) second half of the game with a character that a lot of us hated and had no desire to play. There were points I didn't even want to continue playing. I felt nothing for Abby and her friends. I admit I am a huge fan of Joel, I got attached to and invested in both him and Ellie. And I never stopped hating Abby for what she did. But I didn't even dislike this game because he died.

This game is trying waaay too hard to push an agenda that it forgot what made the first game so great. Was the first game ground-breaking in it's plot or gameplay? Of course not. But we fell in love with the Joel/Ellie dynamic. We fell in love with the side characters, the lore, and the world. I cared more about Tess, Bill, Sam and Henry, than I ever did about Dina, Jesse, or (especially) any of Abby's friends. This game is just an exercise in misery. There's no comic relief, there's no "light" to look for in this darkness. Even the feel good flashbacks with Joel and Ellie, which offered that dynamic we craved so much just made me feel sick. It's just bleak for the sake of being as bleak as possible.

I got so sick of seeing Abby succeed and get her way in almost every scenario. Plot armor as thick as her arms. I love seeing more strong female characters, we all love to see it. But we already had that in Ellie, did they really have to push Abby on us so hard? Admittedly Abby is a good character, and if the story had been presented in a different order instead of the screeching halt at the halfway point, I probably could have at least felt better about her. But I never would want to play her for 10+ hours. Just no.

I'm not going to say this is a bad game. This is a bad sequel.

I decided that it would be better for me to write a review after completing the game entirely and here I am around 25 hours of gameplay. If I had to sum this game up in three words they would be "A massive disappointment". Let me get something straight, there is nothing wrong with having LGBT characters in a game. In fact we found out of Ellie's sexuality in the DLC for "The Last of Us" that she was gay, which is fine. The first game is my absolute favorite game ever and it breaks my heart seeing that they took this route with the second game. They absolutely destroyed everything they built up in the first game within the first 2 hours of this game. The story is absolutely horrendous it was based on hate and the desire for revenge. After the first 5 hours of gameplay I honestly just did not want to play the game anymore. I had to force myself to play this and it pains me because of my excitement for this game to come out, just to see Niel just burn everything from the first game down to the floor. The reason I am not giving this game a 0 is because of the graphics and game-play. The graphics are gorgeous and the gameplay is ok. I absolutly hated that Naughty Dog forced me to play half of the game as the character that murdered one of my favorite characters in cold blood. The issue here is what made the first game so amazing was the story, that was the important part of both games. The Last of Us has always been about the story. The ending was horrible as well and Neil already said that there are no plans to release a DLC with this game which I see them as saying "there are no plans to fix the story". Like I said earlier in this review, I have nothing against them adding LGBT characters in the game but I really felt like Naughty Dog was trying to shove them down my throat, like if they were trying to push an agenda through this video game, it made me feel like it was less of a video game and more of a political statement which is another reason I think is why most of us gamers dislike the game. Honestly I think this game was a waste of money and a waste of my time. I just really hope that if they do make a third game or a TV show/movie they don't use Abbey as the protagonist, she is the most hated character in the game... that will definitely be the final nail in the coffin for us fanatics of the franchise. The plot is different than the first game, while the story could have been told better by swapping the timing of some chapters, it is quite great. Few games, maybe none before this one, have made me feel the emotions I felt today as I finish it. It's a story as much about forgiveness as it is about revenge. I can see why it is controversial, for some they perhaps have never been in a situation where you had to either forgive or allow bad things to keep happening. Sometimes it's not about justice but about moving on with your life. The graphics were a bit off on some of the first levels, even got a bug after using photo mode, but the later part of the game was beautiful and the gameplay and mechanics were simply amazing. I would recommend this to anyone looking for media that makes you actually feel. Great game! Would gladly play a sequel with Ellie trying to get redemption to get Dina back. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Gameplay was the a mixture of Last of Us and Uncharted 4, the level design was the same as always. The soundtrack and sound effects were godlike so it’s like a typical Naughty Dog Game. The Story was easily the worse part of the game, this is possibly THE biggest disappointment in gaming history. And I’ll go through each point and compare it to the First last of Us. the Characters either went two ways, killed for shock value, bland as hell Character Assassinated. Joel was watered down, Joel never trusts anyone he doesn’t know, even normal Joel 20 years before the events of TLOU1 didn’t trust people, 20 years later Joel was willingly gonna run over a “hurt” person and damn near killed Henry twice if not for Sam and Ellie stopping him. Abby was a bland dueterologist, you can’t kill off your most beloved character possibly ever and then expect the player to feel bad for Abby, and let’s talk about character development, EVERY SINGLE TIME a character started having character development, they get written off in the name of Shock value Dina, Ellie, Manny, Jesse, Yara etc. Nora, Owen, Issac, & Mel were all bland as hell in Abby’s story but were good as side characters in Ellie’s, they served a better purpose in as mysterious side characters than bland main characters. Naughty Dog since 2007 has been. Authenticity with characters you can relate with to and believe in to the point you sit there and say “I believe in this, I want to play this I’ll pay to play this, and when it’s over did it deliver” that’s it. Last of Us 2 had neither of these... Also while I’m here. It really annoys me how much they changed Ellie, Ellie being the sadistic maniacal stone cold Killer doesn’t fit her character, she hadn’t gone through enough to have that much of a transformation in FIVE YEARS. Ofc she was always fun loving, emotional and the sharpest tool in the shed BUT* if you cross she only killed to protect HERSELF OR JOEL. Have some sort of consistency. Joel being the sadistic maniacal stone cold killer worked because he wasn’t a hero nor was he the villain he was a Survivor, surviving by any means necessary in a desolated world and it took him a span of TWENTY Years to get that far and had already gone through a lot even prior to losing Sarah. Storytelling and Theme I believe they used a ton of dumb logic and plot twists but some of the plot twists makes sense. For example Abby being a firefly that made sense why she wanted to Kill Joel but Dina being revealed that she’s pregnant and writing her off as Ellie’s partner through the journey made no sense it was clear that they were the best duo (outside of Joel and Ellie) and the entire narrative doesn’t fit the Last of Us. Me personally I’ll always say the Last of Us Part II should’ve never existed because the first one was so conclusive and gave you the feeling of “what happens next is up to your imagination”. Last of Us 2 doesn’t fit that part 1 was essentially about the infection first and the Fireflies/Hunters second Part 2 is essentially warring factions first and don’t forget the infection is sorry of kinda around. But the glaring issue is the lack of character development. No one had any development. Also not necessarily the lack of characters but the lack of meaningful characters that served to A. advance the Plot and served a purpose and not only teach the player a valuable lesson but teach us the player a valuable lesson. Sam and Henry taught us how too strong a bond could be and if you lose that person and the ramifications of losing that person could cause you to fall into that very same fate. Tess’ infection and death put them on there path and started Joel’s path on becoming a believer of the cure. Sarah’s death is what hardened Joel and that and Tess death is ultimately why he ended up saving Ellie in the end. What exactly happened in Last of Us 2 that really had ramifications outside of maybe Joel’s death. The second biggest issue is the fact that no one had any good chemistry or rather, in Ellie’s story they wrote them off too quickly for us to even truly pay attention. Take for example Tess and Joel they had perfect chemistry, jesting & talking with one another the ultimate Authenticity so when Tess died it actually meant something. When Sam and Henry died it meant something. Hell when Dina got wrote off as a supporting party member it meant something. When Jesse got shot it was for shock value and didn’t need to happen at all. The third and biggest problem is how they dumbed down Joel and how they killed him off so quickly and then forced use to play with him via flashbacks. Joel would’ve never gone back to help Abby (an unknown stranger he didn’t know) as shown when in the first game when he tried to run over the man who was pretending to be hurt, tried to kill Henry not once but twice, and told Tommy to keep driving when that family on the side of the road was stuck on the roadside. I went into this game with a really open mind.....and man what a game. Even though hard to play at times due to it’s themes, it’s equally as beautiful due to the amazing environments you come across and varied characters . The characters in this game are amazing. Every single one of them. I loved every second of this game.

A polished and thought provoking experience! Controversial plot-writing - choices that didn’t necessarily make me a happy survivor, but I can respect a morally ambiguous narrative. I appreciate the creative team’s risk-taking with such a big budget project. Absolutely worth playing!

The complex themes, characters and world presented stick with you long after you put the controller down and I couldn’t not compare what I felt and seen while playing to real world events and people. There definitely isn’t one single message in the game but the cycle of violence and how trauma affects the mind and body really stood out for me. The story feels more stretched out compared to the first game but in a good way, although some parts during the second half could have been shorter and the prologue could have been a bit longer (what in my opinion would benefit the overall pacing of the game). The gameplay develops almost in every way compared to the first game, it’s more dynamic and realistic than ever, what serves the story during times making the player feel disgusted by his or her own actions during gameplay what ultimately makes him/her feel more empathy towards your enemies when you kill their friends or loved ones (even their dogs). In the graphical standpoint, I couldn’t state enough how beautiful this post-apocalyptic world is. The sound design, music and representation aspect of the game also deserve a shout out. Expand

AND THAT'S WHY IT IS AWE INSPIRING. To explain the rage I feel towards the people who hated this game and bashed its creators, but loved the first one, I would need to crash the Google Servers. Instead I'll say- enjoy your opinions guys, all I know is it's hard AF to make stuff like this and (in my eyes) Naughty Dog and Neil specifically have succeeded in creating an amazing sequel. Throughout the story there are so many ups and downs, so many times the story doesn't go the way you want it to go, so many times I stopped the game put down the controller and walked around venting about what I'd seen and what I'd 'done' and what was going to happen. AND DON'T THINK THAT'S DONE UNINTENTIONALLY. You are meant to feel an inevitability. You are meant to not be happy and depressed about this game. THAT'S WHY IT'S AMAZING- IT'S RAW AND TRUE. AND IT IS OBVIOUSLY DONE WITH LOVE, SO MUCH LOVE FOR THE CHARACTERS, THE STORY AND THE WORLD. Those are humans I saw on the screen, even if I know it's actually Ashley doing Ellie's voice in a funny costume, I believe more of the existence of Ellie than of Ashley, because I know Ellie, Joel, Tommy, Abby, Dina, hell even Isaac... and not one of these character's motives are unjustified, just like true humans. For me this game is untouchable. Because the characters are so well crafted that any action of theirs, or most situations in which they appear, feel true and natural (at least to me). I was ready for any ending, I just hoped it wouldn't be underwhelming, and it wasn't, the last part closes the circle, and sets the motives right, of how the destruction of the last glimmer of hope can cause so much destruction. That's life for you folks. And that's why I can't rate the game itself.... I both love it, but I also 'hate' it, because Life is Suffering and it's hard to experience so much suffering In a virtual world and add that on top of the real world. My suggestion is to play HZD righr after you finish TLOU2, as I'm planning on doing rn. PS: (yes the whole PC messages in the story were predictable, however they are incorporated well enough to not feel like pure propaganda)

    (ONE SPOILER PART)

THE FACT THAT ABBY IS THE 'GOOD GUY' IN THIS STORY, THAT HER SOUL IS THE FIRST TO LET GO OF THE HATE, AT WHAT I CALL THE 'FIRST ENDING' IS ABSOULTUELY AMAZING. I BELIEVE THAT LETTING THE STORY HAVE A SORT OF 'HAPPY ENDING' IS THE RIGHT CHOICE, BECAUSE IT GIVES HOPE TO THE PLAYERS TOO, THAT WHILE THERE'S A LOT OF UNNECESSARY SUFFERING WE'VE BROUGHT ON TO THE WORLD IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO STOP. ELLIE'S CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IS FULLY JUSTIFIED, AND BEUTIFUL IN BOTH ITS SIMULTANEOUS SIMPLICITY AND COMPLEXITY. AND THE REASON WHY JOEL IS DEAD IS BECAUSE HIS STORY HAS ALREADY BEEN TOLD. HE IS NOTHING BUT A GHOST OF GUILT, LOVE AND PURPOSE. THE PURPOSE THAT ELLIE HAD LOST WHEN SHE WASN'T KILLED FOR THE VACCINE. THE PURPOSE THAT WHEN MIXED WITH GUILT MADE ELLIE CHOSE TO GO AFTER ABBY AGAIN INSTEAD OF STAYING WHIT JJ AND HER LOVER. AND THE LAST BIT OF HUMANINTY LEFT IN ELLIE THAT AFTER 'WINNING' AGAINST ABBY MADE HEE REALISE THAT NOTHING IS GOING TO BRING JOEL BACK, AND THAT KILLING ABBY WOULD JUST BRING LEV AFTER HER, DINA AND JJ. OR MAYBE JUST THAT THIS ISN'T WHO SHE WAS, AND THIS ISN'T WHO SHE WANTS TO BE. THIS IS BASSICALY THE STORY OF THE FIRST HALF OF NARUTO SHIPPUDEN ONLY A TAD BIT MORE REALISTIC AND LESS IDEALISTIC.

The graphics are simply out of this world, as a PC gamer I was really impressed by the visual quality, Naughty Dog really pushed their limits, or rather, the PlayStation 4's limit once more.

The audio is again really amazing, plus the options are highly customizable depending on your setup. Gunshots are actually loud, which isn't the case in other shooters.

Gameplay-wise, The Last of Us Part II is definitely a step up compared to its predecessor, although it isn't perfect it does what it wants to REALLY REALLY well. I felt that this game did a lot wrong, but also did a lot right, the game play felt fun through most of the segments, the levels were interesting and in my opinion dynamic, however, one of the major problems with the game is by far the ending, a lot of people complain about the beginning of the game(which is justified in some aspects) but the worst damage is done by the ending. Before the ending of the game, i could really see myself coming back to play through again on new game plus but by the time i made it past the last segment with the new enemy faction and that miserable ending, i felt like going back to play this game would be a waste of time especially with the lackluster ending that makes you wonder why you decided to play the game in the first place. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What to say about the follow-up to one of the last generation's most revered gaming experiences?

TLOU was a masterpiece of empathetic storytelling. The game was featured in academic papers, its ending endlessly debated, its stellar gameplay praised to the heavens. The critics and non-critics united in bestowing universal acclaim.

Rightly so in my opinion. The first game was lightning in a bottle.

TLOU Part II is NOT satisfying in the same sense as TLOU 1. That alone has created a storm of controversy.

But like or dislike, can anyone who has finished the game deny that the director, Neil Druckmann, has become much bolder, more confident, and more daring in his work when one compares Part II with the first game?

That alone deserves a great deal of recognition. Druckmann knew exactly what we wanted: a follow-up to Joel and Ellie's trek across America. Laughter and lament, ending with the flavor of a bittersweet heartbreak.

Yet he opted instead to give us something shocking and new.

I don't know if Druckmann deserves all of the credit for the new additions. There is a wider effort of inclusivity within the game which can be appreciated in the same way if we look at the pains that Naughty Dog took to include all sorts of accessibility options for those impaired of hearing and vision. Cultural inclusivity as well; LGBT characters are featured in starring roles in a subtle, finessed manner. I absolutely adored Dina, Lev and Jesse as new characters who were so damn cool just being themselves. I loved Naughty Dog's extra effort to tell inclusive stories in accessible ways.

    Onto the nitty-gritty:

If you are a 3-rd person shooter fan a-la- Resident Evil , you will enjoy the gameplay. It's the same as Part I, only much more refined and expressive. The addition of the dodge mechanic and prone stance were my particular favorites. There's also an 'encounters' option in the menu to jump right into your favorite fights.

Aesthetically, the game is simply a masterpiece of graphics optimization. You will sigh with pleasure when you wade into a puddle of water and see its glorious rippling reflections. There's just so much to marvel: after a while, you won't even bat an eye. Your mind will be so immersed that you simply forget this video game is rendering a lucid dream on hardware that is 7 years old.

The music, I must say I prefer Gustavo Santaolalla's music from the first game. Its melodies were more recognizable.

And lastly, the most important effort of all, is the story.

I cannot enjoy this game's story. And I am just so damn sorry to say it. Naughty Dog poured their hearts and souls, their sweat and their blood into this game. They are true craftsmen and deserve our appreciation.

Many people, including Druckmann, have remarked that this story is NOT about revenge, but ultimately about forgiveness and about coming to terms with loss. I agree. TLOU Part II has done everything right in terms of narrative direction. Druckmann and Halley Gross's characterizations are considerate and complex.

But I really have to question, at the end of this journey, what Ellie has learned. What she has gained from her tragedy. And I am left with the dispirited answer that she has learned how to move on. How to heal from her terrible wounds.

What does this story say about revenge? That it is hideously messy, that it swallows up innocent bystanders and corrupts the original noble impulse of honoring our loved ones? That it brings us to the brink of true evil, of the crime of denying others their humanity?

But we already knew all that. We well understand, as adults, the consequences of taking revenge. And who hasn't thought about killing someone over a perceived slight, over a heinous injury? Is it terribly satisfying to recognize that our mortal enemy is also full of fear and love, like us? I felt it was a redundant lesson.

Instead, I felt that as an audience, we yearned to understand the meaning of Ellie's life. Joel hinted that he knew this meaning when he told her that he would have saved her all over again if given the choice.

If Part II is about moving on, then it's largely moving on from the legacy of the first game. I can understand why Naughty Dog would choose to move in this direction. It's incredibly bold and unexpected.

But in my mind, Part II is a middle act in a greater story. And this middle arc was excessively violent, predictable and self-indulgent, as are most revenge narratives in my experience.

Since the prologue of Part II, Ellie has been merely reacting to her horrible loss, reacting to the actions of her friends and foes. But we yearned to see her grow up and to take her life into her own hands. We yearned to see her make choices that reflected the true worth of her singularly valuable life. I could not bear to see Ellie wasting the gift of her life on vengeance over and over again. I wish it were different...but it ain't.

Its as if the early stages were just setting up for the main gameplay which is to play the antagonist.

I'm not sure how the critic reviews are so high, guessing they didn't play till the end, the current user score of about 5 is fair I think as there is good parts to this game. The game is really well made with great graphics, sound and gameplay.

The main problem unfortunately is the biggest part of a game like this, the story. Firstly the characters are all pretty terrible and unlikeable, the worst is Abby and the game makes you play as her far too often and for too long. I mean you are playing as a character that you don't actually want to succeed, if the game actually let me kill her and skip all her parts (of course that can't happen) I would of enjoyed it a lot more as it was a chore to play as her. I know why the writers made as play as her so we could see that "just because you are bad guy doesn't mean you are bad guy" and that actions have consequences. She does at least have a character development arc unlike Ellie and is almost likeable at the end. Secondly the story is too long and didn't know when to end, it could and should of ended at the farm sunset scene. Would of probably given it a 7 if it had ended then. Lastly the story doesn't make sense (character motivations don't make any sense) and isn't enjoyable as it's just too dark and doesn't have any pay off at the end. You really have to wonder how it got point of being made, kind of like the last season of Game of Thrones. The world of the Last of Us is so interesting and has so much potential and it was all wasted, the mini stories in the collectibles were more interesting than the main story.

Overall I would say don't buy this game unless it's on sale for about £15 and you really want to see what the fuss is about.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of us Part 2 is a game that while fun, also gets rid of the amazing story the first game had. Sometimes the characters would do things they would never do in the first game, or they did things against themselves in earlier parts of the game. For example, in the first game Joel never trusts strangers and never tells anyone his name. In The Last of us Part 2, he tells Abby and her friends his name and where they live. Also, in the first half of the game, Tommy is hesitant to get revenge on Abby, but in the second half of the game, he pressures Ellie into getting revenge. The game also try’s to get you to sympathize with Abby, which I found annoying. The only reason I didn’t want her to die was because she had a kid. Some scenes felt out of place, such as the cutscene of Abby and Owen. In the end, Ellie spares Abby because she was also able to forgive Joel for taking her out of the hospital. As she returns home, Dina and JJ are gone, and she leaves Joel’s guitar behind. I have heard people say that her doing this was because she had to leave her relationship with Joel behind. I can understand that, but what I don’t understand is why Ellie killed many people, possibly hundreds and then when she found Abby she let her go. This game is fun, and while I’d recommend it, it’s not as good as what came before. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Game play wise TLOU2 is a solid game. The combat is good just like the first entry and the survivalist atmosphere with low amounts of ammo and items is there in spades. I think it went too far in some points, pitting you against an insane amount of enemies all in one go. Some of these encounters proved to be a dragging slog honestly. The "zombies" were only an afterthought throughout. But in all it isn't as bad as some people are making it out to be. I give it a 7.7-8. Not perfect but definitely worth the play.

    *SPOILERS*

I don't care about the progressive storyline people seem to be review bombing for no reason. Was the story as good as 1? No. Was it good? Yes. The ending is complex. In my estimation the final section of the game showed how Ellie believed she owed Joel and had to avenge his death. But I believe Ellie realized that Joel wanted Ellie to be alive and HAPPY. That is why she let Abby live. She realized that killing her wouldn't have brought her the happiness she had with her girlfriend and child. The vengeance she had in the beginning of the story was fueled off of pure unadulterated rage but in the end she realized that just like in the first game Joel only ever cared about protecting Ellie and making sure she was happy. That is what rang true for me. I don't think it was the best ending but I think it was valid. Abby did a horrid thing but Ellie realized nothing would right that wrong and decided to move past it.

Excelente juego. Muy buena jugabilidad, escenarios bien logrados y una historia muy intrincada con un final inesperado. Desarrollo de personajes e historia muy bueno, te mantiene en suspenso y aferrado al control en todo momento, aún en las cinematicas.

It constantly pushes you over and over. It even made it difficult to keep going at points; however this is what made it so compelling to me. I don't think i need to speak for the visuals as they were stunning, and if you liked the gameplay from the first game you will love this because it makes tons of subtle improvements that when going back to see how the other one played made me think "this is what combat evolution through games should be", subtle, but effective. Through my experience many of my expectations of the game were thrown around, and some of the story beats I didn't agree with entirely, but that's what makes this game stand out. It isn't just a linear journey like the first, this makes it less tight than the first and the main reason why it's an 8/10. My main issue was placement of flashbacks, and although they made some sense on location they didn't feel like they would have the same soft impact they had on me if some were located elsewhere. Also spoilers, but Abby's immediate bond with Yara and Lev definitely humanized her it also felt forced as when she heads back to where she left them she had only known them for like an hour or 2 when escaping the Seraphites. This is my main complaint with the game, but also the reason why I loved it as much as I did. I also saw a couple bugs here and there, none of them were game breaking, just annoying. The fact that I didn't agree with everything that happened and how flawed everyone was to the point where the video game had no true villain. What? A video game without a villain. Yes. Although much of what I'm saying may sound like I disliked the game that is not the case. I am highlighting issues I had with it because of how controversial it is and want my review to be as unbiased as possible because of my love for the first one. This game is also an interesting reflection on humanity and the lengths both sides go to prove their point. That is all, I secede all my time to the Waring factions of the comments. Expand

You may hate her for killing Joel, but let’s be honest: gEllie would do EXACTLY the same thing that done Abby. They are much alike.

The game is dark. It’s not the happy story everyone want. But that’s cool. Some people say that the story is pointless. But That’s what creators tried to show: that vengeance IS pointless. . That’s the main problem of the humanity in this story. To survive, people should unite and stop goddamn kill each other.

Amazing. Even superior than the first one. Better gameplay, more complex, more immersive, more symbolic, prettier. A beautiful ending that shows how anger can take us everything: love, people, memories and skills. A masterpiece of this generation.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think the og The Last of Us is a good game, but nothing spectacular. So this is a unbias review of this one. The Gameplay is still very basic despite a generation gap between the two games. Jump and dogging is interesting at the moment, but then you will remember games that already had those things and did it so much better. Is very clear that this game is 100% focused on its story.

Story-wise The Last of Us Part Two is a rollercoaster of quality in both of it's "campaigns" Scenes like Joel's death and Abby finding Owen and Mel's corpses are powerful. On the other hand, the Scars are uninteresting and taking 24 hours to tell three days while the original had 16 hours to tell a year put the story down. This seven is entirely subjective because (outside of Joel's death, Abby's character and the Ending) every flaw the internet pointed out that didn't come from sexists and/or homophobics bothered me in my time with it. But I am willing to give those problems a pass because, to me, the highs of this game are far higher than any other Naughty dog game.

The amount of silly, avoidable mistakes they made, make you believe that the story was written over a week and not along 7 years it took to make a sequel. Story is filled with plot holes, characters contradict their nature to fit author's narrative all the time, some to the point that they become so shallow you can see right through them. If you've ever read a fanfic or watched season 8 of GoT you'll get a really familiar feeling from this one.
A solid 6/10, a great game butchered by its bland basic story.

Well Abby sure got her revenge and never expressed any regret, if she hadn't been stopped she'd even knowingly have murdered a pregnant woman. Oh but she plays with dogs so she's actually a good person! Sorry but no. Overall a badly written and horribly paced game that's basically a 10/10 in every other aspect but completely ruined by the narrative problems it has. ND wanted me to forcefully like a character which they didn't even took the time to write in well!

They tried to make me like her with manipulative writing! It gets a 5 for the beautiful graphics and some beautiful loving parts I got to spend with Ellie. But other than that I will never want to play this game over and over again like I did with the other games. ND also thought of us as idiots apparently who couldn't imagine that there is ''another side'' to every story. We would have gotten th point with 1% of the abby gameplay she got now.
Very disappointing and fans of the characters that were beautifully build up with us in part one, got **** over.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just finished the game today and it wasn’t until checking what the reviews were like this afternoon that I realised there was such a backlash. I have no idea why people hate the game so much. It’s genuinely awesome. The storyline was brilliant. The graphics are brilliant. The music is brilliant. The voice acting is brilliant. I get some parts of the story make you roll your eyes a bit but what video game doesn’t have some slightly strained plot devices? Yeah sure occasionally a character will do something a bit weird just to get the story moving along but it’s not a reason to give the game such harsh reviews. I can only guess people are upset that Joel dies so brutally and so early in the game but it’s just a video game for gods sake! Another guess is probably because there is a hench woman as main character working with a transgender character but so what? It was done tastefully and didn’t feel overly politically correct at all. My main issue was the searching for loot mechanic felt a bit tedious, running around rooms looking for bits got a bit dull but that was my only complaint. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A masterpiece. I was truly devastated with the first major death. But intrigued none the less.. I’ve never felt so emotionally attached to a fictional character, through any type of medium.. so I plunged into a hate filled lust for revenge as the game intended.. I enjoyed hearing of Tommy’s success and similar when playing as Ellie I could add to her list as the game went on. When Abbey showed up at the theatre I was gearing up for the final act, instead I was thrown into a whole new side mission (or what I thought was a side mission) until it became clear the narrative was matching the timeline though through Abbeys eyes! It took me a while to get to grips with this, as I was moulded into hating this girl for what she did.. the journey went on, and with a master stroke by the creators, indeed I did grow to enjoy my time as Abbey! In fact, probably even more so then I did as Ellie at times! As much as I hated to admit that at first! The game play, story line, and amazing mix of encounters as Abbey, was such a rollercoaster, and some of the best gameplay of the series so far! It turns out Abbey is the replacement for Joel you didn’t even know you wanted! She is brutal in combat, and an absolute powerhouse of ferocity! The (what I thought, again, was the final act) fight against Ellie, in the theatre, was one of the cleverest moments I’ve ever been witness to in a video game! It threw me back to MGS2, when I had Snake watching my back when playing as Raiden.. you got to feel/experience, from the outside, how badass this character is! I could hear Ellie healing, then I hear her dropping trap mines, and I knew how much of a fight I was in for! She was as formidable as she should be! No easy fight! With that, you’re thrown into a new world! Ellie seems like she has found her peace, and is living and dancing up a storm with her dream girl and their baby JJ! It’s such a nice moment, be it short lived.. I was ready for it to end, as much as I loved the game, I, like many, thought it was over! Then, AGAIN, we’re thrown another curve ball!! Back to ABBEY! This is the moment I chose to take a break and get to bed, and get back to it the next day! I jumped back in, and without taking long I’m finally given control of Ellie again, and with a fully loaded bag pack! This lead to one of the most fast paced, and exciting parts of the series! I chose to let loose and have a little fun with explosives and machine guns, and enjoyed every minute. The final final final act, a hand to hand fight with a gaunt and almost dead Abbey (equally almost dead Ellie) is capped with a massive choice that Ellie chooses.. forgiveness! She made a tough choice, but the right one.. she forgave Abbey, and in my opinion, Joel too. I wasn’t intending on a long review, but as soon as I got going I felt it a worthy few minutes to type this out. I’ve never been more engaged in a game, and I can’t wait to see what they do next, if they come back the franchise or not, I loved the series and I’m truly grateful for the wonderful masterpiece they gave us. 10/10 Expand

It does make sense to have Joel die, and playing as Abby allows people to somewhat sympathize with her more, but I think that if they wanted us to care about Abby more we should have played her before Ellie, as well as the fact that that one line of dialogue where she is about to kill Dina saying, “Good”, was probably the worst planned parts in the whole game as it made people just despise Abby. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
