Some parts of Abby's section were kinda dumb but in all the ending was pretty good for me and made me cry. Good game. Expand

The gameplay was basically the same except now instead being invested in the characters you control you kinda are forced to play as completely unlikeable and unrealistic people instead who you kind of wish would die. Do not do the studio or team who created this steaming pile of **** any favours by purchasing this game. It's not the last of us part 2. It's a thinly veiled fan fiction of a love sick incel filled with nonsense themes about today's society that only exist in the minds of delusional people. This game is a masterpiece. It has refined the gameplay mechanics of the first bring TLOU truly into this generation. It tells a story that has taken a lot of flak online but when you dive deep into it it's a tremendous story of 2 women driven by revenge and the consequences of those actions. A must play for anyone who loves complex storytelling and for pretty much everyone that owns a PS4.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game had an almost insurmountable task of following the first, but manages to do so in an unexpected and innovative way. Gameplay, graphics, and sound are as impressive as the first, and shows a natural evolution despite some predictable human A.I. The story structure was completely unique. The revenge cliche still feels like a slight drawback, but the way it’s done makes it so much more than that. Perhaps even more than the first, this is a game of consequences. It’s about different experiences from different perspectives. How Joel’s choices impacted Ellie’s and Abby’s, into how Abby’s impacts Ellie’s, and how Ellie’s impacts Abby’s. There’s no one to root for in this game, and that will leave a bad taste in some peoples mouths. I feel like Ellie killing Abby May have been a more logical ending, though it has left me wondering what’s next for these characters. This is a complicated story that will hit each player differently. 9.5/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I spent exactly a month to complete this game, I must say this game is something else entirely. I cried while playing/going through the end and this is the first time ever that I have cried after finishing a game. I am a person whose favourite game was God Of War (2018) until I finished this game. In my opinion to really enjoy this game, one must be patient and have an unbiased mindset. Of course Joel was one the most lovable characters and what happened to him towards the beginning was extremely heartbreaking. However, I loved Abby and her character arc. Even felt bad for her at times because maybe the game was about Empathy after all and I am in empathetic person. I am not even talking about the tiny details that NaughtyDog had put throughout the whole game. The mechanics, graphics and detailing is extremely good. Lastly, in my opinion The Last of Us Part 2 is a much better and a diverse game than The Last of Us. The Last of Us Part 2 is without question game of the generation and deserves game of the year. Naughty Dog once again shows that they're the top dogs in achieving the PlayStation's technical peak capabilities. Visuals, Audio, World Building, all coalesce to form a stunningly beautiful post-apocalyptic world.

The bad, The Ugly, The Lunacy.

This game had a lot to live up to, and quite frankly it failed miserably in the one aspect that people loved about the predecessor so much; the writing.

The first game admitably had little in ways of a clever/ interesting plot, and yet it remains as a prime example of a masterclass in pacing and consistency. TLoU2 has nothing in comparison to the first game's narrative delivery.

One too many times I was left asking why and how, all for the wrong reason. One too many times the plot and narrative progression just feel so oxymoronically stupid that anyone would be remiss if they thought this writing can make for a good story, let alone any semblance of likeability in any of the cast in this game.

Not many games have left me, my family, friends, coworkers, online acquaintances all saying the same remark in regards to a fictional work; "Somebody wrote this... somebody actually wrote this and said it's fine to shove it out the door?", this game is sadly one such example.

Neil Druckmann claimed that he and his team broke conventions with this game's narrative when all he did is show how confused he is in how to follow up the first game at best, pander to his own writer's ego at worst.

Dual narrative with players going through the opposite sides of the narrative has been done prior; Halo 2's arbiter missions felt shoehorned to most and yet it was well done and further helped built the Halo universe, GTA 5 pretty much forced players to contend with some characters they'll likely find unlikeable and yet persisting through them all end up with some levity and ultimately a sense of satisfaction, etc.

The only way someone can rightly claim this game as breaking convention is if they consider wasting their target audience's time as such a feat.

If you want a satisfying narrative experience, even the newly release Ghost of Tsushima does it better than this game... and the former's overall narrative is neither clever or groundbreaking, yet it's a rewarding and wholesome experience in comparison.

This game breaks alle of Naughty Dogs previous styles and storytelling formulas, unfortunately not in a positive way. It still contains ND'd "narrow corridors" both from a gameplay and a storytelling perspective. However, while this worked in the Uncharted games and TLOU I, since you could understand the characters actions, it does not work in TLOU II, since the actions of the main characters and beyond any reason, that the player is heavily disconnected from the story. Maybe the writers tried to be to clever, since it does not work very well.

The whole experience is very frustrating since you (as the player) have no options to interact with the story (as per ND's tradition). Every sane and intelligent person would have chosen to act differently than the characters of TLOU II in various instances.

Hoje terminei the last of us part ll, e me veio aquele vazio após o termino e que fazia tempo que não vinha, a história meche bastante com o jogador, alguns reclamaram muito pelo fato do Joel morrer mas acredito que para a história fazer sentido e te deixar com o sentimento de vingança assim como a Ellie, teria que ser dessa forma, gostei também de como fizeram o jogador entender os motivos da Abby e o final foi surpreendente pois fugiu do roteiro óbvio como muitos filmes fazem de fazer o personagem principal ter finalmente a sua vingança mas entender que a pessoa que foi perdida nunca vai voltar, e a Ellie entendeu isso antes de cometer um erro, só não gostei muito das partes de flasback que normalmente começam após o jogo chegar num ápice e você fica ansioso para ver mais, e bum mais um flashback, mas de resto pra mim o jogo foi perfeito. This is a game about put things down and let it go, not forgiveness, there is a major difference between put everything away and forgiving. Ellie made her choice in the end, I’m not gonna judge about it here since I don’t want to spoil and plot. But it makes sense if you paid attention to every detail to the game, including read her journal frequently. You could experience the emotions through out the game. The story as a whole is definitely a tragedy, but a extremely beautiful one. Naughty Dog did a great work on controlling players emotions, even though I do agree that some parts might be too aggressive and hard to accept. I’d give this game a 10, considering the story or not. Because the Naughty Dog team had created the one of the greatest game with atmosphere and a sense of realistic among those PS4 era games. Whether people like the story, the team definitely deserves an A+ on bringing these small details to life. Another thing I’d like to mention is the technology of facial detection in this game. Joel and Ellie’s conversations are the most realistic and emotional experience I’ve ever had in my 10 years of gaming. In the end, I would say that I definitely recommend you to play this game even though I know that there is many negative reviews and critics on the internet about it. But try to experience it yourself, it is going to be a whole different story. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was absolutely disappointed to see how Naughty Dog and Sony traded quality story writing to shoehorn a leftist agenda. Firstly, my biggest issue is with the killing of Joel Miller, the protagonist in the main game. By killing him so quickly and so early in the game, it seems that everything he's done in the first game was for nothing and that his sacrifice for Ellie and her potentially life saving immunity was for nothing. Naughty Dog clearly went for shock value over what could have been a better ending for Joel. Gamers have seen games where their favorite protagonist or mentor has died yet no other game has had such a backlash to the writers/company from their fans like this game. What made it more insulting is that we were forced to play as Abby, a woman who has the body of a man and was written to fit a more feminist audience. Oh and before I get called misogynist/sexist/etc. I had no problem with Ellie and Riley's relationship in the previous game as well as the possibility of Bill being gay. My issue is that the writers focused more on virtue signalling and shoving their politics down our throats in this game. In terms of Ellie's story arc, it doesn't make sense how she could kill hundreds and even brutally murder people like Nora and Jordan and take pleasure in doing so, yet hesitate when she finally finds Abby (the one who orchestrated this Joel's death and leader of the WLF/former Fireflies who helped find/kill Joel.) Jesse's story wasn't flushed out and neither were the Wolves/Scars. They were just place holders to add action and fill in spots during Ellie/Abby's story. Yara's story basically was only to bolster and add background to Lilly's. The whole Scars vs. Wolves drama was just a generic faction vs faction story to introduce characters but were simply scrapped once the story finally got rolling. Abby's body is definitely not realistic (and I use that term loosely since it is a video game - but not a video game where there's super powers/supernatural powers). Yeah there's a gym and the WLF has a garden/well stocked food supply but literally NO OTHER woman in that game was as buff as Abby. Even in the scene where her and Owen did it, her pecs were bigger and more manlier than the guy she was sleeping with. During the entire game, the writers tried to make us gamers and fans try to sympathize by killing Abby's friends/crew but with each subsequent killing, we felt happier, not sadder. They make Micah Bell from Red Dead Redemption 2 seem more likable. The Rattlers appearing as the final and surprise faction in the last part of the game also felt like more filler. There were barely and interactions with them in terms of story (other than the beginning) and they had no major role other than to be some rogue group that is hostile for no reason as compared to the military vibe from the WLF, the cult vibe from the Scars and the seemingly good guy vibe from the Fireflies. To add insult to injury, when the leaks came out, ND and Sony blatantly abused the copyright system on Youtube, Twitter, etc. for people who simply talked about the game (even if they did not reveal any audio/visual/pictures from the company through a shady 3rd party company (Muso). They tried to silence and dissent and even punish/block people who gave negative reviews as well as ignored criticisms/negative comments on the game, yet have the guts to only screenshot the hostile comments without showcasing the legitimate criticisms from the community. It doesn't take too much to see how this turned out. Just check out the Last of Us 2 reddit page. See how it was so supportive and interested in the game and then once the leaks came out, see how they reacted and treat the game today. Neil Druckmann and Anita Sarkessian have no one to blame but themselves for trying to force a terribly written story with a far leftist/feminist agenda onto the fans who were loyal to the company and series. It just doesn't make sense how ND had so many awards and accolades backed by their amazing list of games that are usually well written and have high scores yet this game is significantly lower than their average score for other games they've put out. However, in terms of gameplay, there are a lot of improvements to the fluidity of the game as well as creativity as compared to the last game yet the gameplay was generic in terms of pattern (explore, loot, some dialogue/notes/artifacts to collect, fight/sneak past infected/people, repeat.) They didn't even include a multiplayer feature which arguably kept their first game alive and relevant years after it released just to focus on a poorly written game with a generic gameplay formula that rivals that of Call of Duty's same old formulas. The only good parts were the improved game mechanics, beautiful graphics and some nice features such as playing the guitar during your downtime. Overall the story was bad, gameplay generic (only better when compared to the old game) and politics ruined this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I read a several reviews of this game before starting it. The greatest criticisms I read of the game were that Ellie becomes someone unrecognizable from who she'd been in the first game, that the violence is gratuitous, and that the violence and struggle depicted in the game is not justified by the ending. I actually agree with all of these statements. What I don't agree with is the idea that these three facets of the game are it's failures. I understand why they upset people, but ultimately I feel that these characteristics were integral parts of an intentional tragedy rather than a function of poor storytelling.

In the first game we watch as a young Ellie becomes more thoughtful and withdrawn while grappling with the violence of the world around her. In the second, we play as an adult Ellie that we only really come to understand through flashbacks sprinkled throughout the game. You are not supposed to fully understand Ellie's motivations, forcing you to question them and her decisions throughout the game when you want to be agreeing with her. This is compounded as Ellie makes more and more questionable decisions as the game continues, and as you are forced to experience the fallout of those decisions both from her perspective and the perspective of those she's fighting. You start off wanting to root for her, but by the end of her time in Seattle, the best you can do is hope she makes it out alive. It is painful to watch a character you love and are invested in become almost unrecognizable to you because of her own decisions. Tragic, but not poorly written.

I do not consider myself someone who has many reservations about violence in storytelling; my dislike of horror movies having more to do with contrived plots than gore. Yet, the endless tension and violence of this game was emotionally exhausting in ways I anticipated, but was still not prepared for. Just when you think you're almost done, you have to play through it all over again working against those you're rooting for while knowing the ultimate futility of your actions. It was enough to make me want to put down the controller and stop playing, but just reading a summary online wouldn't have been satisfying enough and everything the game had made me go through up to that point would have been for nothing. So I keep playing and pushed through the violence and struggle to gain some closure. This, I imagine, is exactly the feeling that keep Ellie and Abby on their path's of revenge. It's not that I was unaware that the game was trying to draw these parallels between Abby and Ellie, it would be pretty hard not to be, but the success with which they were able to draw parallels between what I as the player was feeling and what they as the two playable characters on opposite sides of a conflict were feeling, is pretty damn impressive. This game is the single best example of the strengths of video games as a medium in story telling that I can think of. The first game introduces the idea of cycles of violence as something that the world is stuck in, the second game shows you one of these cycles in action. The gratuity of the violence is emblematic of the cycles of it they find themselves in, and their willfully ignorant perpetuation of it feels tragic rather than thoughtless.

Ellie and Abby's motivations are eventually revealed to parallel each other, and while Ellie's character development continues to parallel Abby's in her self destructive quest for revenge, Abby's character development slowly shifts to parallel Joel's. The final climax comes with Ellie finding Abby in Santa Barbara and Abby refusing to fight, but when her young charge is threatened she ultimately fights and disfigures Ellie in a decision that loosely parallels Joel's choice to kill the fireflies. Yet when confronted with the opportunity to get revenge on the person who killed her father, as Abby was at the beginning of the game, Ellie makes a different choice. Some seem to view this as a failure on Ellie's part, or as a failure on the writer's part. That if Ellie could choose not to kill Abby, then she could have just as easily chosen not to go after Abby the second time, or the first time, or that Abby could have chosen no to go after Joel in the first place. If the cycles of violence that were used to justify Joel's choices, and the choice of a soldier to open fire on him and Sarah can be opted out of, then doesn't that render every death, every loss, every difficult choice made in the series meaningless? Yeah. Yeah, it does, but not because Abby was allowed to live, but because all of it was already meaningless. Ellie's choice just opened our eyes to that fact.

There are many reasons not to enjoy a game, and I can understand why the ones discussed here could tarnish your enjoyment of this one and even the series as a whole. But questions of enjoyment and quality are separate and regardless of whether I would call this game enjoyable, it's certainly not lacking in quality.

Average gameplay but the story is horendous. They ruined Joel's character, Ellie's actions are meaningless and overall the world feels empty. Kill 200 people including a pregnant woman to reach Abby only to let her go. Sure, who cares about all the other people eh?

Good visuals and design bogged down by poor direction. Characters are introduced and killed simply to provide false stakes and imply something is happening in an unnecessarily drawn out story, the full roster of Infected is poorly (and barely) utilised.

Ultimately the entire game is a slave to a narrative the developers claimed 'needed to be told', that the player would already know

Ultimately the entire game is a slave to a narrative the developers claimed 'needed to be told', that the player would already know from common sense and didn't need to be beat over the head with over the course of twenty five hours.

Immersion, the fourth wall and respect for fans who waited seven years for this game seem to be the least of Naughty Dog's interests with this game; it appears their only interest was in causing shock and controversy by any means possible, while paradoxically moral-high-grounding the player from atop the pedestal built on crunching their developers and false advertising.

The four points for this review go to those working on the art and gameplay of the game, but they cannot hold together an inherently flawed and patronising experience.

It was disappointing how easy it was to for stealth gameplay if one were to complete the game without morals such as killing the dogs immediately. I do not know why the removal of shivs was needed though as it was provided a challenge. Those were the only complaints I had for gameplay, but I have massive complaints about the story. I know that there are lots of negativity regarding the story, but I feel like it should have been handled differently. The story felt out of place, especially the ending where it no longer took place where the whole game was. It felt forced and improvised. The character developments were average, though I find it difficult to care for any of the other people. Expand

People who complain about the plot, and not getting revenge are totally missing the point. Go play something else if you want simplistic videogame plots with no conflict. I found myself completely uncomfortable by then end of the game in the best way possible. I didn't want either character to die. Because in either characters shoes I could justify their actions. Ellie knew Joels reckoning was somewhat justified. So she couldn't being herself to follow through with killing Abby, it wouldn't give her closure. Just a great story that has set a new bar for me. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
