Disappointing followed with inconsistencies, disrespect, a general lack of logic and decision making, despite the possibility
of actually making sensible, and realistic decisions (that is basically non-existence in the entire game) that can make the game an actually interesting journey with new and returning characters, but instead, it's mostly dry garbage shoved to your face forcefully.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The problem with this game is not the LGBTQ stuff or Ellie being gay or Abby being buff or looking trans. The problem with this game is the complete assassination of the main characters, Joel was killed off in such a dumb way and to early, then they make you play the person who killed him in order to build sympathy for that character..except it doesn’t work. The ending is even worse. Imagine going to see John Wick where he kills everyone except the actual person who killed his dog and then let him live. The story is a terrible twist on the cliche revenge plot used in all media and it is a complete kick in the face to all the fans of this franchise. There is good about this game though it has set a new bar for how games should look, sound, and play. Everything except the story is absolutely game of the year material but when you make a 30 hour long story game (mine took me far less but that is the designed time) but the story is absolute disrespectful garbage then you have no game at all. Personally I regret getting this game as i have been looking forward to it for 7 years. I’ll just consider the end of tlou 1 as the canon ending since in my opinion I think the last of us is perfect (even it’s flaws). I didn’t expect this game to be better or as good as the first but it is the absolute worst it could possibly be in terms of storytelling. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I honestly did not expect much of the game due to the leaks .. But the game is a perfect garbage for several reasons, the most important are the poorly planned ideas of the developers for having murdered Joel in the first hour of the game and in a stupid way , it seems as if he were flanking the character to the point that he forgot that they are in a **** apocalyptic world where you should not trust anyone or this is how he acted and thought in the first game. Here his death makes it look like it had to happen because the director got bored of Joel and said hey why he is not dying now ?, seriously lazy and forced his death .. And there are other things as the story developed in favor of including political propaganda and giving those pacifist messages that are irrelevant or run in a delayed way. Or that characters like Dyna, abby and even ellie herself are quite boring. 4/10 The game looks nice, the music is fine, it doesn't innovate much the gameplay of the first game and that's all .. 4/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game gets my high praise for its beautiful visual and animation, stunning scenery and sound. I, however, find the story and its character development to be atrocious.

This game did everything it could to destroy the characters we know and love from the first game. Characters we knew from the first game are dumb down and killed to keep the plot moving. For example, Tommy and Joel, veteran survivors of the apocalypse who had been on the run from pursuers, conveniently give away their identity to a group of strangers, thereby giving the game a convenient way to start its revenge plot. Joel is made out to be the villain for killing people and Abby's father. On the contrary, Abby is the true villain of the story. Joel, though flawed, had a justifiable reason to kill people - he did it to protect his daughter. Abby is a brute who only killed people for revenge. She did not hesitate to torture and kill Joel after he had saved her multiple times in past. It also is hinted that Abby killed anyone whose name was Joel. Basically, Abby is the scum of the earth. I honestly thought nothing would bring me more satisfaction than seeing Abby die at the hands of Ellie. I was wrong. The game not only robbed me of that joy and then spat in my face by making the villain, Abby, the new protagonist of the game for an extensive amount of time. No matter how the game tried to emotionally manipulate me into liking Abby (giving her a dog while making Ellie kill a dog), I find her to be the true villain of the game.

Major character decisions in the story are laughably unreasonable. Besides what I just mentioned in the previous paragraph about Tommy and Joel, Abby spared Elli after she had witnessed Joel's death at Abby's hands and knowing full well Elli will seek revenge for his death. For some inexplicable reasons, Abby was later shocked that Ellie was hunting her down. In the final fight of the game, Ellie, going against all reasons, spared Abby, rendering the whole game pointless. So it seems only the villain of the game, Abby, gets what she want in this revenge plot.

All these things from above lead me to the conclusion that Neil Druckmann is a talentless hack who has been riding on the success of the others. Furthermore, it is also likely that Neil Druckmann inserted himself in the game in various ways, One as Abby's henchman who spat on Joel's corpse and another as a doctor on an ID card who is 100% intellect and is part of the organization called New Dogs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I do feel awful for the people that designed the games environment and graphics because its one of the best I've seen in a game and now all of the studio is going to get this much backlash for the most questionable decisions in story telling ever.

But before that I do believe the gameplay has barely improved. I expected something more than a jump button, dogs and the ability to crawl. Then if the gameplay isn't much improved then surely the main focus of the game is the story. Which is the worst part of the game. None of the charm and connection from the first game is here. Joel the character I loved most from the last game is killed very early in the game and honestly I wanted to stop playing there. But I forced myself onwards. When they announced the game we all sort of knew Joel was going to die in some way. But the way they did it here is extremely disrespectful to the character that was one of the best parts of the original. They could of done it in such a beautiful way like Lee Everett from the telltale walking dead series. Or Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2. Hitting so emotionally and satisfyingly. But when Joel gets clubbed to death instead and you only feel so much anger towards abby. But i thought okay this is the villain and Joel's death is a driving force. I'm still annoyed but if I get an adult furious and faithful to character Ellie on a hunt for abby with a great ending and emotion in the story i can still give the game a 7. But no. You play as the villain that killed your favourite character. One of the most iconic characters in gaming. And you play as their murderer of the icon of the first game for half of the game. When i started playing as abby I put my controller down in rebellion of this decision because I couldn't accept the stupidity of this. Throughout all of the time with abby the game wanted me to sympethesis with her but I just felt rage towards her. But I also hated playing as Ellie. The side characters are just... eh... just average at best. Returning characters feel off and new characters are boring. But Ellie is the worst at this. In the original she was the little light in the depressing world but here she's stoic and cold and not very likable. But i haven't touched on the ending. We go through armies as Ellie with over 100+ peoples blood on our hands just to reach abby and then let her go. She lets go the murderer of her father figure. No one would do this. I mean at least if we killed her id be a bit happier. All in all the game is maybe okay with gameplay and idiotic when it comes to story. The only thing I can compare it to is if in God of War 2 kratos gets killed by Freya and then we play as her running away from atreus. And then at the end atreus let's her go because of... reasons.

Stupid story. Don't ever repeat the mistakes.

English: Despites the stunning visuals and the almost flawless gameplay The Last of Us: Part II is such a disappointment for the fans of the game characters and history...
In the initial hours of the game Joel dies for Abby, a weird choice but is understandable...
But then we have the game ending that doesn't make any sense because in the whole game Ellie is searching for her veagence against Abby ( a not so good character ) but at the end she doesn't kill her ( lol ), leting this not finished journey feeling in the game ending.
Overal a very good gameplay but a not so good history... What ruins a few part of the whole experience.
Sorry for english mistakes (i'm not totally fluent yet)

Now to be fair, it is a story-game so I didn't expect it to be horribly challenging or mechanically interesting but the story isn't compelling. Not because of some inclusivity-garbage, it's much simpler than that, the characters are just poorly developed and unlikable. The brilliant writing of the first game hasn't returned. An unfortunate disappointment.
Graphics 8/10 very beautiful with a few rough edges, some of the fluids look strange
Gameplay 4/10 Smooth controls, no challenge, enemy AI is horrible
Story 3/10 The story isn't as compelling as it's predecessor and attempts to be a lot more than it is
Entertainment 1/10 The bottom line is, the game isn't fun. It was a chore to play, with the story unable to motivate me nothing other than looking at the assets was enjoyable. Combat isn't fun even though it's smooth, and exploration isn't an option. My playthrough simply wasn't enjoyable.

I wish I could recommend this game as I loved the original but i can't in good faith do so.

It had every element a narrative driven experience is expected to while also mantaining a somewhat entertaining gameplay. Charismatic yet flawed very close to human characters? An atmosphere that invites to immersion and a plot on par with great Hollywood productions.

Sadly the last of us part 2 lacks in every aspect aforementioned. The intelligent almost human narrative has turned into a cartoonish almost revenge simple plot that even at that fails to deliver.

Naughty dog decided to exchange clever story twists and down to earth dialogues for mere shock value and cheap generic bits.

The gameplay is good but it doesn't innovate while some mechanic's are welcome and work in paper, reality is they don't or fail to execute entirely like the "jump" or executions.

Sound is perhaps a good point fpr the game. However none of that is as impactful as the story in which a narrative driven game should exceed. This makes ellie's journey less impactful, because even though Joel's dead was but a cheap devices to justify this all, ellie fails to fulfill it.

4/10 in my opinion. I didn't enjoy this game as the first one.

This video game is a quintessential example of greed and capitalist industry gone wrong and it has no legitimate creative reason to exist.

I'm sorry folks, but if you expected this to live up to the strongest points of the original, you were a fool from the start. Atrocious; Philosophically and ideologically bankrupt and incredibly morose and un-fun.

The first game may not have aged particularly well in terms of gameplay, but is still a masterpiece in my opinion, due to the outstanding characters, fast pacing and compelling story. The first game may not have aged particularly well in terms of gameplay, but is still a masterpiece in my opinion, due to the outstanding characters, fast pacing and compelling story. While Part 2 improves on the gameplay mechanics in a lot of ways, the story just doesn’t work at all and the game lacks the urgency that made the first one so difficult to put down.

The large open areas are technically impressive and detailed but not particularly varied or interesting to explore. Other than some snowy areas at the beginning of the game and some more variety towards the end, the abandoned and overgrown buildings you visit for most of its runtime are all rather repetitive. You often find yourself in areas filled with enemies and a single exit point, which takes a certain amount of time (holding down the triangle button) to open. You need to clear out enough enemies, stealthily or otherwise, in order to open the exit without being interrupted. This same formula is repeated over and over again for the majority of the game. While these sections are less linear than the original, they can also drag on for far too long. The stealth mechanics have been improved upon but are still more frustrating and less refined than those seen in other games, such as Metal Gear Solid V and Horizon Zero Dawn. The AI is just laughable at times, the enemies have inconsistent fields of view and the autosave can be annoying and leave you stuck in some difficult situations. While the game is effective at leaving you with just enough health and ammo, particularly on higher difficulties, this means you end up searching every corner of every room for the same few crafting materials constantly, which becomes tedious.

The story was the original game’s greatest strength, but is by far my biggest issue with the sequel. The idea that there is good and bad on both sides is an interesting concept but this is incredibly poorly executed. There is an event about two hours in that I won’t spoil, which feels shocking and unearned at that point in the game. Later on, you are supposed to view this event from a different perspective, as well as what happened during the ending of the first game. The writers simply don’t do a good enough job of making the player empathise with the antagonist and the way the messy, non-linear story plays out doesn’t help in this regard. It’s very difficult to side with a character you barely know over beloved characters from the first game, especially when they seem so evil and unlikeable, never really showing any remorse or humanity. Including a few scenes of her playing fetch with her dog just isn’t enough.

Aside from playing as Ellie in the present day and during some quite enjoyable flashback sequences, you actually play most of the second half of the game as the main antagonist, Abby. Frankly, I didn’t enjoy this at all, I couldn’t relate to the character or forgive her actions and simply didn’t want to play as her. These 10 or so hours were a chore to get through, as it feels like you’re at odds with what the game is making you do. There was one section where I was glad every time the character I was playing as lost, which I’d consider to be a failure from a storytelling perspective. These sections could have been removed entirely as the game suffers from being twice the length of its predecessor, with a much less compelling narrative to distract from the sometimes mediocre gameplay.

The characters of Ellie, Dina and of course, Joel, were a highlight. They made me want to see the game through to the end, despite how much I disliked the story. I thought Ashley Johnson, Shannon Woodward and Troy Baker did a fantastic job with the material they were given and the music is effective. The game is also incredibly polished with outstanding graphics and attention to detail.

I truly wanted to love this game and was determined to avoid all the negativity prior to its launch. It was probably my most highly anticipated game of all time, but falls short in so many ways. The story is miserable, poorly structured, has no real resolution and just isn’t as intelligent as it is trying to be. The ending of the first game was morally ambiguous, and I’m sure Joel’s actions would have had consequences, but I’m not convinced exploring these in the way they do here adds much to the series. The hospital sequence was a thrilling finale to what I’d consider to be one of the best stories ever told in a video game and questioning these actions only diminishes this.

This was overall an incredibly disappointing experience and I’m surprised by some of the decisions Naughty Dog have made here, given their impressive track record over many years. The characters deserved better, especially Joel, and so did the fans.

Ellie can take down hundreds of enemies at a time with no sweat off her ass. But she draws the line at pregnant women. With the amount and brutality of the killing she has done would definitely dull those feelings. Why did Ellie let Abby live in the end?. She watched her kill Joel. She has a very big reason to kill Abby! Conscience or not. She won't give a damn! And, the gameplay is a little too scarce. It doesn't feel like you actually play enough of the game. I don't want to watch the game! I want to play it. Disappointing overall and I would not recommend you buy it. And don't get me started on that poorly written sex scene. It’s a revenge story with kill after needless kill, after needless kill. It basically numbs the player to the point where you don’t care about why you started this journey in the first place. The violence became exhausting even before the second half started. There are no new meaningful relationships in part two . The only relationship I cared about during the whole game was the one between Ellie and Joel. ( There’s a scene in this game that’s even better than the giraffe) I didn’t care about any of the new characters in this new story, because I was never really given a reason too. -Great Graphics
-Guns and fighting feels really nice and smooth
-Great moments between the first games protagonists
    -Tons to explore and sightsee

    Cons:
-Minor bugs that ruin the immersion (Guns glitch out, AI acts really dumb, rarely though)
-The story is very hit or miss
    -New characters feel really forced.
-new mechanics don't feel very fleshed out
-Parts of the game fit more in a movie sense. -No sense to replay the game a second time
    -NO Factions MP.
Personally the 4 point i give it go towards the gamplay. The lack of the other 6 are because of the story -2 and the lack of MP -4. I find myself not wanting to play it a second time because i really don't want yo sit through hours of walking and "story building". The lack of MP also just makes me want to not go through the expirience again. I keep hearing this game is not meant to be enjoyed, well yeah they are right i didn't really enjoy it at all. And because of that I dont want to play again. Also, this game really feels like druckmann was high on his ego to make an artistic revolutionary game but failed as hard as Kojima in his latest Death Stranding. Going into the story...
First of all I loved Joel in the first game. I now he's not the hero of a standard video game, I know he was a merciless cold bastard that made a questionable choice in the end. But goddamit was it done well. His death in this game? Just really felt like a **** you to a fan like me. And it's druckmanns choice to have made his death like that. But it's my choice to not like a hack story with butchered characters too. The game lost me and therefore my faith in ND, I'd return this game if i didnt split the cost of it with my friends to play it one by one. The new characters suck and the ending feels so anticlimatic with an even worse written morally gray ending that the first game established. For a game that was placed on a high pedistal it sure fell flat. However, if your a fan you should still buy it, 4 years from now when its on sale for 20 bucks. Wake me up when MP is available. Ill for sure buy that if it doesnt make 2 steps forward one step back like UC4s mp.

Wanted to leave a real review. I stopped after the getting the gas at the dome and the other location. Visuals/Acting/Presentation is a 9/10.

My problem is story and gameplay. The game plays like it's 2012, controlling Ellie feels like driving a tank. Between that, the close up camera and 20-30 FPS this game doesn't feel fun to play. I didn't have this problem with RE2, but maybe

I didn't have this problem with RE2, but maybe because it was 60FPS on PC, not sure.

The story.....wow. I'll be nitpicky here but everything adds up. Starting minute 1, characters are low energy like their on melatonin or something. I get their setting a depressing tone, but there has to be someone that I like. They go into school drama with Dina kissing Ellie, but Ellies not sure, and Jessie dated Dina but he's cool with Ellie and Dina, but the bartender is a bigot, and on and on....it's torturous. You didn't give me a reason to care about these low energy, grumpy characters, why would I care about their relationships?

They try to remedy that with Ellie and Dina's dialogue while progressing through the game but for some reason neither of them interest me. Their both kinda boring, corny jokes, just nothing interesting to say. It's weird because you'd think they'd have a lot of cool stories but they don't.

The other character is a trainwreck, she's basically Sasuke in Naruto times 10. Not sure why I'm supposed to care about her.

I think 4/10 is fair, maybe higher if you enjoy the gameplay. The story is a slog, pacing bad, unlikable characters, etc. Good set pieces and visuals but it's not worth it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The long awaited sequel is here, and when it comes to gameplay mechanics and graphical presentation it’s amazing. However the core storyline is quite insulting to fans. The fact they tried to hide Abby in the trailers is misleading. Even more misleading is making Joel seem like a major character in trailers only to have him be killed off two hours in a 20+ hour game in a needlessly brutal and distasteful way. ND tried to subvert expectations and be edgy but instead alienated fans of the game by destroying two beloved and well developed characters. The story and it’s characters failed to grow and develop. It’s just misery Expand

The Premise is simple,Revenge does not end, it's an endless cycle of meaningless conflict in the end;the execution of said premise in The Last of Us 2 is an extremely lacking narrative that makes the player feel like they have wasted their time.
Characters seem to meander throughout without ever having an epiphany or enlightened moment, the payoff is not something extravagant but something as mundane as letting things go.which in it's own regard is excellent but the entire journey undertaken in this game becomes pointless if there was no ultimate payoff. Overall The last of us two was ambitious but ultimately it forgets what it's ambition was.

The writing in this is terrible. Terrible story choices. Plot holes galore. No one is giving bad reviews because of LGBT+ elements of the story. Absolutely terrible story. The only reason it is getting a 4 is the gameplay itself isn’t shabby and the graphics are beautiful.

Before everything else, did I buy, play and finish the game?
No I did not bought it thankfully. Yes I played my friends copy who is currently distraught now. No I did not finish the game for the reasons I will tell below.
    .
The gameplay of TLoU 1 is meh for me, a 6/10 at the most. Generic shoot and loot survival / stealth gameplay but I finished it and would give it an overall 9/10 because of the sheer goodness of the characters development. Its the same feeling as the "one more episode" of your favorite series even though its already 4am and you have work at 7am.
    .
TLoU 2 took all that character development from the first game, crippled it so it could not run, beat it repeatedly for torture and hit it with a golf club in the head as coup de grace. THEY THRASHED IT all because they want to introduce a new character development for their 3rd sequel. That is all i got from the 10hrs so that I played this game, its a new setup for a 3rd sequel, nothing more.
I got tired of playing it so I went to youtube to spoil everything and there my doubts where justified. They did set this whole thing up just for a 3rd sequel.
    .
It pains me greatly that corporate greed ruined a beautiful franchise and it clearly shows with all the shill reviewers giving this thing a 10/10??? F**king joke.
    .
To be fair, the aesthetics, animation and models of the game, the sound and voice acting... They are premium quality, a definite 10/10. Its like watching a movie... Unfortunately I want a freaking game! not an interactive movie! And if its a movie, atleast make a decent written story! As everyone already mentioned, this is like the first half of game of thrones plus avengers infinity wars where Thanos collected all the stones but did not do the snap. Its f**ked up.
    .
If TLoU 1 did not exist, if this game is a first and stand alone of its franchise, maybe things would be different. But they banked on heavily on the success of the first one only to trash its achievement to setup a third one. For that, I hope you enjoy my rating. I give it a FORE out of ten.

There is something very beautiful about this game, but sadly, it never comes together. A big disappointment. It’s disturbing how the writers put barely legal Ellie & Dina through such torment, only for their journeys to be ultimately pointless.

You may or may not like the absurd amount of Progressive elements and "Look good with minorities" in this game, but, the plot of it is completely Trash. Graphics - 10 - An absolutely good job for the environment design guys
Gameplay - 8 - Normal, but quite fun, it was good but I expected something else
Sound - 10 - Very good job for the Sound team
Performance - 10 - Deserved applause for the team that takes care of this

And this is the best thing you have ... From here everything is downhill

History - 3. The first 2 hours were good, rest, damn it is absurd and bad
Characters - 3 - I was expecting better development in character writing, or at least reaching the TLOU level 1
Plot - 2 - A plot about revenge can be very convincing, we have perfect examples in the industry, but this plot, far from convincing you, leaves you with more doubts and in the end is crap
Characteres - 3 - Really after having a lousy story and characters that you forget about them in 24 hours, do you expect the plot to be good? Bad, pretty poor

Summary: 4/10. The plot and the story brings the game to life, it seems to me that in this they forgot about it.
    Online can be very fun.

The Last of Us 2 is a breathtakingly stunning game in terms of its visuals and the environment, as well as refined gameplay mechanics and improved enemy AI. However, its story is flawed, and goes no where near the heights of the first game.

The gameplay leading up to Joel’s death is completely out of line with his character, as he seems to have absolutely no suspicion of Abby having her group of friends in a place where Joel has patrolled before. Joel and Tommy have survived this post-apocalyptic world for 25 years and have seen and been through a lot, yet willingly give away their names and where they reside. It’s simply does not make sense, especially given the fact that Joel was super cautious around strangers in TLOU1, even if they had kids like Henry and Sam. Although some people may feel that his death is justified given what he has done and the current state of the world, and also gives a good reason for Ellie to go on her quest for vengeance, the later part of the story simply does not justify the decision to kill Joel so early in the game

When Ellie finally gets her chance to kill Abby and seek revenge for Joel’s brutal death, albeit some time later, she is stopped by a vision of Joel playing the guitar, and in the end suddenly stops drowning Abby and just tells her to leave. This ending does not convey any message, and has absolutely zero meaning to the themes of hate and vengeance they were trying to put across. Sure, Ellie kills hundreds of people to finally lay her hands on Abby, but not killing her and instead just letting her leave whilst losing 2 fingers for absolutely nothing. The ending just makes one feel empty inside, with absolutely zero emotion. Abby is also a very poorly written character, with her backstory thrown in after killing Joel. It does not make the player playing sympathise with her, as we have no emotional attachment to her, unlike our beloved Joel and Ellie in the first game. What made the first game special was the growing bond between the two characters, and this father-daughter relationship paved the way for a phenomenal first game. Sadly, the sequel just aims to make what Joel did saving Ellie seem wrong, and paints Joel and Ellie more like antagonists, while trying to justify Abby’s actions

Overall, it goes no where near the heights of TLOU1 with its poor story writing, and it’s probably one of the worst sequels of all time.

The problem is, the story is pretty weak, it really feels like SJW propaganda, I don´t have problem with LGBT, but this is sooo forced. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll start with the gameplay because it's a videogame, and that's the most important thing for a videogame.
If you liked the gameplay of The Last of Us, chances are, you'll love it here.
If you didn't, however, it probably won't win you over.

The Graphics are like next-gen, I've never seen a game that looks better and I'm more of a PC player, but something I like to say is that Graphics don't make the game, the gameplay does.

As for the story, what I have the most to say about...
So, The Last of Us is my favorite story ever with my favorite characters in all of gaming. Ellie's "It all can't be for nothing" Mentality and Joel's "You keep finding something to fight for" actually helped me a few times when I genuinely felt suicidal.
With the Last of Us 2, they said that they'd be honoring these characters, and I was pretty excited.
They basically ruined every last one of them.
I'll start by saying that the leaks are all true. (All except Abby being Transgender, she's just really muscular.)
Ellie says she's scared of ending up alone in the first game and in this one, she gets impaled by a tree and ends up alone, Tommy doesn't want to speak with her anymore, her girlfriend left her and took their kid, her father figure is dead, she can't even play the guitar that Joel taught her how to use because she's missing two fingers because Abby bit them off, and Ellie didn't even get to kill the person who killed Joel.
Joel dies in the most out of character way too, he saves Abby (the person who kills him) which is something Joel would not do if it meant risking himself or his brother, then when they're at safety, they just say their real names when they were former hunters and Joel must know he's being hunted after killing an entire f*cking hospital full of people trying to make a cure for the infection. Then, when Abby says his full name, he never told Abby that his last name was Miller, so he would've immediately said something like "N- No, what? My name's Joel Franklin, what the hell are you talking about?"
(Though, how she knew this was Joel makes sense. An Ex-Firefly told them that Tommy was there, and they know that Joel is Tommy's Brother because the group that kills him was Ex-Fireflies.)
And, to add onto that, Ellie doesn't kill Abby because she has a kid with her, even though Ellie was willing to slit the kid's throat just to get Abby to fight her when Abby was refusing to, meaning Ellie could've easily just finished her off with a single shotgun round, and if she was worried about the kid hunting her, she could've done the same to the kid.
I know killing a kid sounds bad, but you should see what Ellie does to the dogs in this game.
Ellie stabs them, shoots them, beats then, lights them on fire, you can even make them literally explode.
There is simply no way that this is honoring the characters like Naughty Dog said they would.

There are good moments though, like the flashbacks with Joel and Ellie, like at the beginning where Joel tells Tommy what happened with the Fireflies, then teaches Ellie how to play the Guitar, Ellie's 15th (?) Birthday where she pretends to be an astronaut, I thought these were really cute.
The one where Joel and Ellie look for Guitar Strings and Ellie almost dies to a Bloater was really cool, and the last two scenes near the middle and end of the game (If I recall correctly) where Ellie finds out what happened and has a mental breakdown, and the last scene where she says she was supposed to die there and her life "Would've f*cking mattered" were just amazing. After everyone who died to the infection, it makes sense that she would react this way.
However, these are some of the only good moments, which there are very little of. This is not a compliment.

I watched a No-Commentary Let's-Play on YouTube to see if the leaks were true and this game was actually worth buying and I want a refund.
I did not buy this game, I did not even *play* this game, and I want a refund.
If you are a fan of Naughty Dog or The Last of Us, please, save your money, stay as far away from this game as possible, and pretend that it doesn't exist, spend it on TF2 hats or CSGO crates or something because those are honestly better purchases than this game.

The Last of Us 2 lacks the love and care that The Last of Us and it's DLC, Left Behind had in 2013 and 2014. At the end of the day, I'm really glad this game got leaked because it saved me and plenty of others some money that we can now spend elsewhere.

And, before anybody calls me homophobic transphobic or racist since I've heard people are doing that with whoever dislikes this game, I just want to say that I'm dating two people (A Man and a Woman) and I'm Trans, so, please, shut up and get off your high horse, stop saying we're review bombing this because we're transphobic, homophobic, bots or whatever and just realize that this game seriously is not as good as you think it is.

    Sincerely, Charlotte Franklin.

Great graphics. nuff said, One of the best looking PS4 game.

Gameplay, its the same with minor improvement from the original game. And after you play it for 20 hours, it become boring and tedious. AI still dumb

Story, well its revenge story, bad one that is. Compared to the original game, this one feels unlike the unique "human" side of the post apocalyptic story the original game had. And this game even try to drag the playtime to agonizing hours of playing character you don't know and probably don't care at all. All i want is the dynamic relationship between elie and joel which -fortunately- i still can enjoy through the flashback scenes.

Overall, i feel disappointed, i wish the leak aren't true, i refuse to beliefe it from the bottom from my heart. They throw away what i love from the first game and give me cringy coming of age revenge story. Mediocre naughty dog, mediocre.

Gameplay 3/10 (nothing new, same old thing, generic stealth mechanic)
Graphics 9/10 (One of the most beautiful PS4 game ever)
Story 3/10 (This score for the flashback scenes)

I’m aware of what happens in the first game but what happens here is literally a joke unless you like combat and open world type of games it’s pretty great otherwise for story it’s straight up not even about the characters we loved from the first game apart from Ellie I wish naughtydog had a change of heart and possibly even scrapped this project and revamp it but it’s out there now. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a huge fan of the first game I was so excited to experience Naughty Dogs 2nd game in the last of us series. The first game gave me some powerful feelings, some great detail and a lot of thought went into the story and gameplay. Unfortunately in the 2nd game, they only managed to keep the details, the graphics and a few little bits that managed to impress me and others. This game shows the playstation and what it can do, but unfortunately story wise...it'll p*ss you off. Without giving any main plot away you spend some of the game chasing someone to kill. To which when it comes to killing them...you don't. You basically go on a long killing spree and then the person who caused you to go on the spree you keep alive. On top of that the story feels like it doesn't have much of an impact like the 1st game did. The game is still fun, and beautiful to play. But for me and many others, naughty dog really ruined it story wise. I'm going to leave it out there that a DLC will probably happen. But I wouldn't say the game is the worst, nor do I think it's the best. But that's my opinion and you have to think about your opinion first. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can already tell based on a lot of these reviews, and to be fair there are a LOT of them, that the devs are just gonna dismiss any negativity based on these cringe redpilled reviews that are just mad about there being trans characters in the game or whatever. The trans character was a pretty well fleshed out character, and I don't think them being trans was that forced, so that part of the narrative was okay.
But the way this game just tries to shove the message about revenge or whatever down your throat is such an ostentatious **** show. The players spent an entire game getting to know and love Joel and Ellie, and within the first 2 hours some random **** just brutally kills Joel. Little did we know, we're meant to just feel like **** for the entire game. And after this psycho puts on her sadistic display, we're then forced to play as her for half the game, and the devs try to basically show off and have a 'dynamic character' or whatever and try to impress us by turning our perspective around. 'Look, the dog you killed is her dog!' or 'the surgeon you killed was her dad!'
Abby is a dick even to her own friends, there's nothing likeable about her. Literally nothing. There is no overlap between Abby's moral circle and the player's. So the devs just kill like all the characters and give Abby a **** ton of plot armour, and just until the very last microsecond keep hammering it into our skulls 'revenge bad! revenge bad! revenge bad! revenge bad!' and 'you're just like Abby! you're just like Abby! you're just like Abby! YOU'RE JUST LIKE ABBY! YOU'RE JUST LIKE ABBY!'. It's just so poorly done.
A dynamic plot like this should feel natural, and it just doesn't. The message is too transparent. We spend the whole game rooting for Ellie and co. just to have this gory fanfic slapped down in front of us on a silver platter of good graphics and guitar simulation.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well I did played the game. Pre-ordered it. The gameplay was good. The graphics were really good.
I can't say that about out the story. It really let me down. If it will receive game of the year award... It will be a slap in the face to all the games that won the award in the past. And a big kick in the balls to Red Dead Redemption. Revenge is a fool's game. Honestly I did have to put the controller down. After that "man lady" that killed Joel without remorse. Even after saving her life back there under the fence.
I'm really really disappointed with direction of the story. For me the story ended with the first game.
I really hope this is Niel Druckman's last job in this industry. I can't believe that I waited for this game 7 years. Ending up to be so disappointed. I regret buying and playing this game. P. S. I'm not a troll and I did not rated this game just for the sake of it. And I really love a good story no matter the media form.
I gave it a 4 just because I enjoyed the flashback sequences with Joel and Ellie... If that wasn't there...well I have no kind words to say for the rest of the story. Peace out.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The production value (motion campture, animation, voice acting and face expressions) and technical fidelity is great, but the overall game design is starting to feel obsolete and some places contradicts the story instead of working in favor of narration. For example, there is a scene when companion suggests to run, but the game isn't allowing to progress until all enemies on a level are cleared. Whether the story is good or bad is highly subjective, but there are many story beats that seem to exists only for the plot convenience and are out of character. I don't have a problem with writers wanted to introduce new characters, but many of them feel forced. Many cutscenes, while technically impressive, are poorly directed and written and are ridden with cliches, for example there is recurring cliche of bad guys wanting to kill some characte but suddenly they are starting to argue which gives time to some surprisingly deus-ex-machina event to happen and to impose plot armor on such character. Also, there seem to be thin line between deceiving audience via trailers for more satisfying pay off and false advertising. II think Naughty Dog crossed the line with clever editing and model swapping to bait audience, hence the outrage, and I agree. This is not the game that was advertised. Imagine if it was other way around and authors marketed this game honestly, focusing on a new playable character only for gamers to find out we are playing Ellie for the 50% of the game - everyone would be in awe. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My heart is broken. I played the first game when I was 13, and it became a very special game to me. I remember when they announced they would be making a second one, and I was so excited. And now, after the long wait, the game is finally here, except it’s so disappointing. I was so excited to play this game, a story of revenge, but naughty dog for whatever reason didn’t want to go all the way and wimped out on the revenge tale so it was never quite whole. Add in the unexplainable hours of gameplay where you are forced to play as the vapid and empty antagonist all while naughty dog attempts to make some forced redemption for her and for what? I honestly don’t know why they did this, it was such a waste. If they cut out all the parts where you play as Abby and actually tried to developer there characters a little further maybe the game wouldn’t have been such a big flop. I cried so much during this game, only once was because of the actual gameplay, all the other times was because I I realized I wasted years of my life getting so excited for a game only for it to completely bomb. My main issues with this game are as follows:
-The way the killed off Joel
-The way they made Tommy’s character, especially after Jessie dies
    -All the Abby “filler”
-Ellie’s ability to kill hundreds of people to get to who she wants only to back down at the last second
-the lack of character development Some things I did like in this game:
    -The beautiful graphics
-The seamless transitions between cinematic and gameplay
-The first three days in Seattle as Ellie (wish they had made the whole game more like this and fleshed it out)

In conclusion, naughty dog, please just except this was a fail. And what I think you should do is just throw the whole thing away, pretend it never happened, and try again. Please.

The game relies heavily on shock value but not the kind that makes you feel emotional it is shock value that leaves you wondering what the developers and writers were thinking when they constructed this narrative. The ending is a joke and makes no sense. Over all very disappointed with the final product. If you must play this game because you are a huge fan of the original just wait for a sale or buy it used. Not worth $60 and has no replay value at all.

Disappointing sequel to an amazing series. Wish i could somehow forget about it. Personally i was fine with all the LBTQ stuff but the main problem is that the developers forgets one of the main aspects that made Last Of Us 1 good and that was the relationship between Joel and Ellie. To kill of one of the fan favorite in such a way without even an honorable death and forcing the players to somehow like Abby and understand her intentions is honestly idiotic. And then the horrific ending to add on to it where the player plays through the entire game only find out that Ellie wont take revenge because of some dumb reason even though Abby bit 2 of her fingers off like jeez. The sequel is a disgrace to the Last of Us series and honestly i am really sad to say this considering how long i have been waiting for this.

The weapons don't feel powerful I mean at one point I shot an enemy point Blank with a bolt action rifle in the head and she just stumbled back not very realistic at all ,The controls felt so clumsy and aged When playing as abby I felt more powerful as her melee attacks offers some nice hand to hand combat where ellie with her Switchblade basically feels like a nail file and does little damage you can pick up better melee weapons for ellie but they usually break within 2 to 3 attacks it's like naughty dog wanted you to prefer playing as Abbey

Even tho abbey felt better to play with While playing as her it felt wrong I felt like I had betrayed joel who Id come to love so much in the first game, is this what they wanted I dont know I cannot help but feel like this game would have been as good as the first if Neil druckmann wouldnt have destroyed the story I feel like he has lost touch with the fan base and gone too political Naughty dog was great when Amy Hennig was leading the way it's so sad to see a great game franchise fall this way

The Brutal way Joel is killed is not a problem. Because I know that if a apocalypse happens things like his death will happen. That's why I don't hate the game. It's brutal violence is needed to show reality - how cruel the real world is. And a message to all the people who say that the game is too much violent or brutal - just shut the **** up and stop crying. The world is no place filled with fairy tales. Life is harsh and hard. Especially during the apocalypse. So just Grow up and stop pretending to know everything, and that that your review is the right one. Because it is not. And about the game play. I think it is amazing. It just keeps everything from the first game that I loved. And improves it. Another message to all the people who say that the game play hasn't changed any better: it wouldn't be a good sequel if it changed the game play completely. It kept it the same and improve it. The gunplay is good. Thank God they didn't change it to be like CoD or fortnite or GTA5 just to satisfy whining fan boys like you. The game play isn't supposed to be like any of these I mentioned. It is supposed to be last of us game play. And this game keeps it very well. About the graphics... well.. They are impressive. Fenomenal even. And you who say that it has bad graphics... You are Dumb. Why don't who complain about the graphics make another game with better graphics if you know so much. Right you won't because you can't and you know it. All you can do is complain. So if you can't make anything better just do yourself a favor and stop whining. Last but not least to all you who say Tha are hardcore fans of the last of us and come here to complain about game play and graphics... YOU ARE NOT HARDCORE FANS. JUST GO TO HELL AND STOP WHINING. The Last of Us part 2 is a work of art. The animations, character models and environments are all out of this world as most Naughty Dog games are. Additionally, the voice work is top notch with returning VAs and new alike giving heartfelt performances that really draw you into the characters.

Unfortunately, that is basically all the game does well. Graphics and voice work can only carry a game so far without good gameplay and story to back it up (in most cases anyway; there are plenty of examples where gameplay carries a game entirely), The gameplay is passable enough; essentially just an iteration or two off of the first game but nothing noteworthy to really set it above it's predecessor. But the story is where the game really loses the plot.

I don't want to spoil anything (not that it hasn't been spoiled all over the place for a few months now) so I won't go into specific details of the plot but I'll lay out a few general critiques. For instance, much of the game takes place with a group that it fails to really endear the player too. As such, unlike the first title it tends to be hard to get emotionally invested in them and the struggles they face feel empty which greatly undercuts many of the more dramatic moments in the story. Beyond that, the characters the game does a good job of connecting you to (or who have a prior connection from the first game) tend to act in unreasonable ways when compared to their personalities or previously established character traits. But, in my opinion, the most egregious fumble the game makes is just a measly 2 hours into the game where it combines all the faults and just killed my enthusiasm for the rest of the story.

All in all, it is a very pretty game with decent gameplay but does little to actually motivate you to play through the story.

1º Personajes irreconocibles y escenas contradictorias.

The positives of this game come where the gameplay is introduced, with stunning graphical improvements and new vertical moving mechanics introduced, which adds a more adventure “feel” to the game than its former predecessor. The motion capturing and voice acting is also to their advantage as well. The flashbacks to when Ellie was 12, are arguably some of the best parts of the game. It reminds you of what made the first game special with it’s character bonding and exploration features. There are many negatives to this game, which begins with Naughty Dog’s marketing team. Before the game released there were lines that were given to Joel‘s character, which got scrapped and given to a new character named Jessie post-release. This heavily mislead consumers into believing that Joel had a bigger role in the overall story, when he really died within the first 2 hours of playing. There were also scenes with what appeared to be 19 year old Ellie and an older character model for Joel, to only be changed back to the young Ellie and Joel from 2013 as flashbacks, which mislead consumers even more. Neil Druckmann, game director of TLOU2, told the fans that Ellie was the only playable character in the game, which is incorrect since for 6-7 hours of gameplay you are forced to play as the main antagonist; Abby.

The issues continue when you go with the narrative experience of The Last of Us II. The first game took you on an adventure with Joel and Ellie, with immersive and beloved characters, with teaches you that you shouldn’t trust just anyone. In the sequel however, it ruins this theme by taking characters you loved in the first game, make irredeemable decisions and shows us a theme of revenge, which is very cliché in terms of storytelling at a regular basis, and ruins the character development some characters got in the first game. It doesn’t stop however, when they introduced the death of Joel, which could’ve worked if executed more properly. In the first game, it was elaborated that Joel was an untrusting character; even making false names and being wary of every situation. In The Last of Us II however, not even within 24 hours of knowing Abby and her crew, and also being aware that they’ve been hunted for the past 7 years...Joel gives them their names and the location of their hideout, which is completely out of character. Ellie also has some out of character issues aswell. Abby had killed Joel, Ellie’s only father figure, and spends the rest of the game trying to chase revenge after her. During the Final Battle, Ellie has these weird flashbacks that influence her decisions very conveniently, even going as far as to when Abby has bitten off two of her fingers and beaten her bloody, Ellie lets her go after seeing a flashback of Joel playing the guitar. 4/10.

The graphic are good, the atmosphere of the ruin world where human are not the top of the food-chain anymore are still there. Im happy to see technology improvement help artist paint the more realistic world than ever before. The maps are bigger that the last game and it feel like you have more option to explore. But there isnt any major myth for you to find out like Tomb Raider and the progression fell pretty linear. There are a bunch of accessible options in which some make the game completely turn into a walking simulator. I suggest you should check those first when started playing. AI are just like before, not really bright. They wont make you fell threatened. Cut scene are way too many sometime i feel like im watching a movie. I can say over all its a so-so, its what i expected when buying the game nothing out of the ordinary.

The story is not what i expected. The theme and direction are completely opposite first game. Turning a new leaf but not in a good way. The first game show us there are beauty in everything, acceptance of losing your loved one and natural way of healing past drama. While this game is about vengeance and hatred. The game force us to feel and understand the felling of the new character while we doesn't have any deep emotional connection except rage and confused toward them. Like you are forced to spend a day with your high-school bully while having constantly being a dick to your best friend. That doesn't feel nature enough to make me feel bad for him because his mother mistreat him as a kid. And then on the final decision you couldn't make it yourself and force to watch another cut-scene again. I think cheap 1$ visual novel have more option to choose than this game.

He has truly tarnished the fabric of all of the characters from the original game (all for the cheap method of subverting expectations) in order to establish brand new characters who are introduced in such a poor way that it is impossible to gain any kind of connection to them.

Druckman wrote a game that ticks all of his boxes. Yet he completely forgot that the world doesn't need to be forced to see miserable and gruesome scenes in a game all for the sake of teaching the futility in vengeance (a story Im sure we've all been embedded with from the ripe age of 5 from fairy tales) Because that is what defeats the purpose of playing a video game, we want to play games to have fun, and when a game becomes so depressing that it hurts to play as one of the main characters of the game-you've f*****d up big time. We're forced to witness characters we've grown strong bonds with make choices that betray every molecule of their anatomy. It truly is the Game of thrones season 8 of video games. Its so disappointing to see, Naughty Dog created a refreshing story back in 2013, with believable and deep characters, a world with a original spin on the zombie genre with the cordiseps virus. Conflicts that shape characters and lead to flourishing character development. For all of that growth to be stamped upon time and time again in the last of us 2 is a travesty.

Compared to the original game We experience a 20+ hour game that is deviod of any character development, deviod of any intriguing new characters. Deviod of any spirit from the original game whatsoever that this may as well of been a spinoff game. From my experience I lost any motivation to complete this game from around the half way point. The point where you're subject to a perfect example of how to create the most unlikable character in video game history and forced to play as that said character. Perhaps if another writer had been in charge then this character could've been made justified for their actions, and even create a connection with players. But it is executed pathetically.

Gameplay in the last of us 2 can be tedious. Thankfully they included in depth difficulty options in the game to fit the players style. However for those wanting to play on a survivor difficulty and not use these options You'll be subject to a downright boring-unfun experience. One that you will question to yourself on multiple times 'why did I buy this?'

I feel as though through elementary grade writing from Niel Druckman and a tedious gameplay loop that drags you through the dirt for over 20 hours has, lead too The last of us 2 going down as one of the worst sequels to a game in at least this generation

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just finished playing The Last of Us Part 2 and I’m very disappointed. The way that Naughty Dog handled the game is horrible and I can’t believe that someone approved this game to be release because this game was one of the games, I was the most anticipating and I don’t know what happened. They went in a completely different direction that they went for in the first game and they did not need to go out of their way for this game. The Last of Us Part 1 was about hope, redemption and family and this game have nothing of what I loved about the first game. What I loved about the first game was the story, the character development and also the development of the relationships between the characters. Joel had just lost his daughter and he did not want to care about other people because of course it’s a scary time during the apocalypse and people are dying, but his love for Ellie grew up, it felt as if it was a father/daughter relationship. Personally, I never cared that much about the gameplay of The Last of Us, for me it’s all in the story and the characters. Games like Grand Theft Auto and Mario Kart are games that I play for the gameplay much more than for the story, The Last of Us is a game that I loved because of his story. The graphics are very nice for a console game, the sounds are great, the gameplay is great, the soundtrack is excellent and the overall technical aspects of the game are awesome and I want to give props to the people that worked on those aspects of the game, they did a very good job and the work of those people should be mentioned. So now, I’ll talk about what I didn’t like in the game. First of all, I want to say that the LGBT inclusion in The Last of us didn’t bother me at all and it had the potential to be used in a great way, but in this game, it felt force and was useless at times. Ellie was lesbian and we already knew it since the Left Behind DLC, we even saw her kiss Riley and it received a lot of praise by the gamers so most people didn’t care about that, it’s just how they include it in this new game doesn’t add anything that is interesting to the story. This game contains way too many cut-scenes, some people were able to finish the game under 20 hours, I did it in 19 hours and about 10 hours of the game are cut-scenes, some of them are so long that it feels like you’re watching a movie. I would have like to receive more play-time than watch-time. The way they killed Joel is horrible writing. In the first game he is a guy that trust no one and it takes him almost a whole game to trust Ellie with who he did his whole journey and now in this second part he just blindly trusts some strangers, follow them and give them information about who he is. It’s very poorly written and for such an important character to die that way sucks because it doesn’t follow his mindset. It’s the biggest moment of the whole franchise that everybody was expecting and I don’t think anyone was expecting Joel to survive the whole game and it’s okay that he died, but the way he was kill is a complete disrespect for the fans of the first game. I didn’t really love any of the new characters, Dina was okay, but other than her I disliked everyone else especially Abby that we had to control for half the game which is a big downside because every time I played as her I didn’t want to play the game… I really hope that Neil Druckmann won’t destroy Uncharted the same way he did with Last of Us Expand

The emotions I felt were completely unearned and ruined the legacy of the first game. I finished the first game a mere 3 days ago to make the transition seamless, but the forced themes as well as broken storyline made me return this very soon. It gets a 4 for good gameplay, graphics and environments, but thats not what I played the last of us 2 for. It was for a good story, and this is not that. Expand

One of the worst games I’ve ever played, this fame has motivated me to turn in my ps4 and all my video games. Very slow in the beginning, doesn’t feel like a new game, feels like an expansion of the first. Poor narrative designs really big this game down. 0/10

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
