The gameplay, visuals, acting, and music were all incredible. Naughty Dog did it again in these departments and even exceeded the first game in some of these regards. I really wanted this to be a 10/10 but the story is dragging the project down to where it can’t be brought back to what made the first installment great. I feel the original story wasn't respected, and the small details and character moments that made that game great are sorely missed. A decent game to play, but hopefully forget. Expand

11 hours in and I gave up. The game is very repetative and besides the flashbacks and the car scene there is nothing of interest here. A total waste of money. The insult to injury are the flashback which are the exact game I would like to play.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Back in 2013, I could not have been more hyped for the original game. At that point there was no game I had anticipated more. And when I played it, I absolutely loved it. The world building and storytelling was great, I developed such an attachment to Joel and Ellie. Seeing the initial conflict between them, with them eventually getting to be like daughter and son. To be honest, I almost cried when Joel fell and got impaled, as I thought he died. I loved the first game so much.

But for TLOU2, man am I disappointed. The world and detail in the game is great, the facial animations are top tier. The graphics aren't quite as impressive for the time as they were for the first one, but they're still good. However, the trailers and ads for the game were so misleading. They made it look like Joel would play a big part in the story with how often they showed him. But nope, killed off by an angry buff woman with a golf club. The writing and story is just HORRIBLE. And why do we need sex scenes? They add nothing in this game. In the original DLC when Ellie realized she was lesbian, whatever I don't care. They just harped on it a bit much. This entire game is "Subvert your expectations" and its awful. I don't want to spoil the ending, despite how terrible it is. Let's just say the ending will only piss you off more.

How much money can a company give out to shill for reviews? Probably about half the cost of this game. You can give a game a great cast, with a hard hitting story that is made to make us feel bad, but when your game play is boring and outdated, and most of the sad stuff is just watching abuse against females and LGBT people it's not good. The sex scene was not needed, especially with how Sony has been cracking down on censorship for any game from Japan that has lewd things in it. Why did we need to see a scene of someone getting taken from behind with nudity? Why wasn't that censored Sony? Not to mention it's unsafe sex. Not talking about a condom, it's anal with no prep or lube. It doesn't work that way people.
When the game play is walking/sneaking between point a and b and then watch some cut scenes, maybe kill someone it gets stale quick. Which is what this game is.
Swinging from ropes isn't something new to boast about, pitfall and DK have been doing it for over 30 years. The killing in this game is pretty much what you've seen in other killing games for the past 10 years as well. The only new thing this game really brings is the trans character, who was mocapped by someone not matching the body type at all, and is **** on for most of the game and even dead named.
They tried for so many brownie points for their game and it just fails in all of those categories. It's almost like they used a dart board to figure out what buzzwords they wanted to use in the game to make it appeal to as many young people as possible, but in doing so made a pretty meh game at the end of the day.
Finally let's also not forget about they bait and switching their trailers and ads for the game, by replacing a very important character from the ads with some other guy we care way less about in the game.
This game doesn't deserve praise. It sure as hell doesn't deserve those bought 10s. It's a middle of the barrel game that tarnishes how good the first one was. Oh also enjoy like maybe 70 zombies for the entire game about zombies

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm going to put 4 only because of the game play and graphics, those 6 point literally get destroyed by a disgusting story. I will start talking about game play, the combat and interacting with the world are really good, really feels like being there but the looting and constant walking only to add more to the game time is really lame. The graphics are beautiful, not much to say and finally the story, killing the most important character in the franchise in 2 hours of game play is pretty stupid. Joel was one of the most likable and relevant character in the entire gaming community, he was loved by a lot of people, and he gets killed by an unreal unknown woman, yes unreal because you just can't grow those muscles in a apocalypse and its not the only thing about Abby, the developers even want us to play the most hated character in the game for half of the game. Absolute bull***t. Not to mention how annoying and boring were most of the scenes about her story. And the finale, Ellie becomes insane and doesn't even kill Abby. Feels like the developers hate Joel and Ellie. If there is going to be a part 3 (doubt it) i heavily hope it will have the spirit of the first game. Expand

The story is a pale shadow of the original, which truly was a masterpiece, and if not for the leaks they would have palmed off this garbage as a proper sequel.

But it isn't, the mechanics are practically ancient, the level design is so smoothbrain that it's painfully obvious that having fun was absolutely the last priority for the developers, and the writing is on par with a Twilight movie. The dodge and jump mechanics are also laughably bad and add nothing to the experience.

I could write an entire essay on how stupid the story and characters are but suffice to say everything you've heard is true. Everyone is awful, nothing is hopeful, and it comes off as a shallow and preachy diatribe. You will be bored to tears playing this and frustrated to the point of facepalming yourself into another dimension. Everything bad you've heard about this game is 100% accurate.

This was a vanity project for Neil Druckmann and it turns out he isn't half as clever as he thinks he is. If you want a game with a good story and gameplay play Star Wars Fallen Order or even minesweeper. Avoid this game like zombie brain fungus.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. VERDICT [4/10] I never expected I'd write a negative review about a game from Naughty Dog. I never expected that I have to write this around 3 AM from where I am because this is too much. First, great visuals, animations, sound, music, environment, design, as always Naughty Dog pushing the game's engine to reach the fullest potential of the PS4's capabilities (Not pro). * HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD*

Straight to the point on why I'm giving it 1/10 for the story. (TLOU1 was good because of the writing, not much on the gameplay.) They really tried to mix things up, like how it usually happens in the 'good' movies or films, books or shows. I am in for it and I was already anticipating Joel's death even then when the very first teaser for this game came out. In this sequel, you're going to play as Ellie and Abby. Both characters are going to be involved in revenge (although Abby did it first right away). You'll be able to play as Abby for the next half of the game. Naughty Dog wants you to build empathy for a character that killed your main character. It's a really good concept but it's beyond ignorance as to what they're really trying to achieve here. Antagonist Main Character? Sure you can give me that, Playing as the antagonist because you'll have to accept her "revenge" to your protagonist and empathize with her? No. Big no. Building up empathy for the "antagonist" is like building up empathy for ignorants/murderers allowing your citizens to die from the real world pandemic/police brutality.

    For Joel and Ellie:

Joel got killed in the very first 2hrs of the game (IDK how long, prob even less than 2hrs). Basically, the story was already being set up as a revenge plot. Joel is the key to the revenge plot (forgive me, I love Joel as a character, He and Ellie were the reasons why TLOU1 was great). Now, Ellie was ready for that, and even Tommy was. Let's face it, the game was pulling an LGBTQ card right from the beginning (I'm being sensitive, hear me out). I don't care any of that, Ellie can always be who/how she wants to be (Same goes for everyone out there who's LGBTQ). Shouldn't have taken the political route. What else were they pulling in the game? SJW. (Yes, you've read this from other reviews already). Well, guess what, for 20+ hrs you'll be playing a massacre, killing every single one of the enemies who're Washington Liberation Front except for one character that killed Joel because why would you, right? Why would you kill someone who killed your father-like figure right? That's wrong, killing is bad but only after you've killed like 100 of them and letting go the one you played to kill for the whole game. I guess that's ethical and merciful.

No, you do not set up a revenge plot and not giving it to the end. What's the whole Joel death thing for? (and those you killed with all the graphic/gore?) "He just died because it's life, just kind of like how reality works." It's basically what Naughty Dog is trying to teach us here. The lesson is to kill everyone and only to realize that it's not right and so Ellie let go of Abby.

Fantastic story! Great ending! Way to just steal people's money for selling a plot we all thought how it was going down. Great job Neil Druckmann, I feel like you and your team just want to end Naughty Dog's reign as part of the SIE. No wonder why it had to be released before PS5. Good job on the paid reviews as well.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story here is awful. Gameplay is very much the same as it was in TLOU. Which is fine. To be honest, no one loved the first one because of the gameplay, it was the story. The game works. It looks amazing, no bugs or glitches. Great work as far as making the game. Now the story is trash. The TLDR: Joel dies. And not in some sacrificing for the power of love type of way. Just beat in the head with a golf club. Ellie and friends go for revenge. They all make stupid decisions and die. You play as Abby and beat the crap out of Ellie and her girlfriend. As Ellie you save Abby and get beat up again. You get 2 fingers bitten off and your relationship with your girl is destroyed. You go through all of this, just to let Abby live. WTF. At least have the balls to follow though at this point. Ellie goes the whole game murdering people and animals left and right, just to not kill the bad guy. And yes I consider Abby the bad guy. I don't have any sympathy for her. Blame it on the storytelling. And if you think this is what people wanted or this is what we deserve you need to take a long look in the mirror. Expand

They obviously traded character development for shock value. Characters are as smart as the person who writes the lines for them. The violence and gore are over the top, and non of te characters learned anything from the things going on in this world. Characters felt like they were just put in there in order for Ellie to get her revenge.

The ending is also the most unrealistic thing I've seen. For a game aiming to teach you something out of the reality of it's own world, the ending makes absolutely no sense. And that's what this game is, a nonsensical tale about nonsensical character doing a lot of nonsensical stuff in the most vicious way possible.

The first game is one of my top 4 games of all time. the characters and story moved me in such a way that i was overjoyed to hear there would be a sequel. We could learn what happens when ellie finds out what joel did. She could decide to use her immunity to the most she could to help people. We could find other immune people who were not as well intentioned. We could expand the story of the infected and maybe make them more then just jump scares. We could contend with the corrupt military. But we get none of that. When i heard the leaks i did not want to look because i have always trusted ND because everything they have done was so high quality but the worse peoples said things were i had to look. And when they said that Joel is murdered and you have to play half the game as his murder that's when I decided this was not an instant buy. I decided to wait until there were definitive reviews that could confirm it and there were. But even after this my love for ND and the Last of Us characters was so great that i watched the story playthrough saying if it fit i would buy the game because the Graphics, music and gameplay look amazing. but sadly this story is just plain bad. none of the characters from the first game feel or act like the characters we all know. And the new ones make the same incomprehensible choices. And i just can't support this bad a story. DON'T BE FANBOYS: The development is very bad, it's horrible, (Joel's death is not the bad thing), it has some terrible script holes, Joel in the first game ran over a man who was supposedly hurt because he knew it could be a ambushed and now enters the den of strangers, seriously? And the damage that after killing Marlene and kidnapping Ellie could they look for him and he's giving his name just like that? AND NOT TO TALK About that argument convenience where Abby Justo found them by chance, that's what makes him bad, not Joel's and other things that I don't mention for not spoiling but that are very bad. You enter an area, clear the enemies with stealth and/or shooting and move on to the next area. It's typical last of us, like I already mentioned. Visually, the game is pretty. The graphics are one of the best this gen. Story wise, the game is **** It tries to tell a story about revenge but fails to deliver on it. The story makes no sense. The ending is disappointing, most of all, because it retcons all the people you've killed throughout the game, so basically it retcons the plot itself. Most of the side characters are really poorly written and have nothing meaningful to convey. On top of that, this game actually tries to promote mental illnesses like gender dysphoria, which is really unhealthy. Verdict: I wouldn't suggest you buy this game based on graphics and game play alone for $60. It is not worth the price. You should wait for a sale and buy it some months down the line for $30. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will make this a non-spoiler review, and I actually have almost finished the game. I want to give my specific perspective of where I am coming from, so you truly know I am not a BOT or some kind of review troll. I'm just a normal gamer that loved the first game, and wants to review the second one now.

Me: I am a female gamer, and I greatly support LGBT/trans rights and have no issues at all with any of that kind of stuff in any game, so I want to be very clear about that point. Maybe others overly like or dislike the game because of this kind of thing, but I'm only discussing the game in as objective a way as possible.

I would have given the first game a 9/10, I was not really into the game play a ton, but the story totally sucked me in and I fell in love with the two main characters.

Now, let's talk about TLOU2. The game play feels about the same to me, it doesn't seem to have evolved all that much, but it was certainly good enough I think for most people. But I want to just list pros and cons of this game...

    PROS:
The graphics are beautiful to me. I really enjoyed just exploring the world.
Some of the visceral fighting is a little too violent for my taste, but I think it was pretty intense in a good way at times.
I also generally enjoyed a lot of the music, and the game feels very polished with no bugs.
I love a lot of the level designs, and had fun in both the more linear parts and when you had a little more freedom

    CONS:
It has to be the story. It's not about specific characters and moments on their own, it's the overall tone and theme of the narrative. I know some people will rail on specific things, but I can probably tough it out and accept any one bad scene if the overall story is still good. But it wasn't. In short, I fell out of love with Ellie and never fell in love with any other character at all. The narrative is too simplistic to me compared to the nuance and subtle undertones of the first game. I feel like this story could have been told - and has been already - in so many games, shows, and movies, whereas the first game felt very unique in how the specific narrative tied together. I am really shocked the writing is this poor, it's really a huge letdown for me both in terms of plot holes and just general dialogue, etc. I feel like the first game was at a level like a real written novel of high quality and this one is more over the top pulp fiction comic book. I felt so many emotions during the first game, I felt almost nothing this time around. It just felt too over the top and bleak in a way that didn't ever connect with me. I think the Schindler's List comparison I have heard is a very poor one because in that movie I constantly felt empathy, pain, and raw emotion constantly but in this game I just felt numb to the violence and felt almost nothing emotionally. They didn't build the characters well enough to ever really care about them, and then once they start acting out, it just doesn't connect.
Also, maybe the pure violence appeals more to men but for me it took away from the narrative.

I think a 4/10 is a fair score given everything I experienced. I still support a lot of what I think the game was trying to do, but it just didn't tell a good story. And that's true no matter what specific scene or situation someone wants to talk about -- on the macro level, the writing brings down the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Combat is okay nothing that innovative but there are people who will be okay and might have fun with that the new enemies feel like a gimmick and less organic than i thought but they’re serviceable. I dont know why jumping is a thing it didnt have to be in there and no one would’ve batted an eye. The atmosphere is honestly inconsistent in execution, things just seem to happen and you’re along for the subpar ride. Subpar ride because the writing is not good sometimes i would daresay rushed and unpolished to the point it broke immersion multiple times when characters do things that history shows they wouldn’t do thats a case of poor execution on a part of the developers. And the slow sections just seem to drag this game, length could’ve been chopped up and it wouldnt have ruined anything. The new and i say that loosely characters honestly dont really stand out and even with motives for some they are hard to empathize with or relate to and very much unlikeable. It is possible to relate but the writing is not strong enough to do it. Also DMCA-ing channels for having a different opinion or exercising their right as a fan to speak out is distasteful and doesnt help your purpose. Take some responsibility for you actions. This game gets a 4 from me because take away the story the gameplay is an 8 (the story is a 2). 8 divided by 2 is 4 it’s mediocre. Can it still be a success yes but lets not pretend there are already games coming up that will be better than this and less insulting/divisive how did this get such high ratings really gaming journalists have some standards and hold these studios accountable when they do slimey things. Shock value for the sake of shock value is lame and lazy, Game of Thrones tried it everyone loved it until they started killing off characters those same people who liked it cared about, plus the writing was inconsistent and all over as well lets be real. Funny enough though....The difference being what Daenerys did if you really think about it (take the angry sunglasses off) given the history and context (despite bad writing laced throughout the entire show) makes more sense than what Ellie does in the end, thats sad. I know what you were trying to get at but c’mon we expect better from you Naughty Dog. Also please treat your workers better too many articles are out there saying you don’t. Expand

It feels like we're playing a next-gen title on the PS4 Pro, the game is visually pleasing. The story is where the game lacks the most. I was left feeling let down by the end, and the game seemed to drag on for far too long.

The story and writing is what I wanted to play the last of us for. it is possibly the worst writing i have experienced in a game . The characters are laughably unrelatable.

I honestly dont know what else to say. The characters make no sense. The characters values, morals and logical thought process are non existent. The relationship between Ellie and her partner revolves around fact that they are the only 2 people (in the faction) that are gay. I think it does a huge disservice to the 2 characters. It feels like they were only there because they were gay.

As a gamer who thinks Alloy in Horizon 0 Dawn is one of this generations best characters. The last of us part 2 does not belong in the same league as horizon, God of War and the original Last of Us. I call it the original because the 2 game are not a part of the same world. I recognized nothing in Ellie, Joel or Tommy that i knew the characters to be in the first game.

I cant in good consciousness give this any more then a 3 as nothing in this game makes sense, connects, creates empathy or excites me (except that one scene that made me angry). I feel bad for the development team as the story does not do the art, animation, programming teams any justice.

To start I wasn't one of the original fans of The Last of Us. When it came out i heard all kinds of great things but due to circumstances in my life, i was unable to play it. I ended up buying the first game about 2 years ago on PSN after they remastered it. WOW I knew there was a second game coming but I was so beyond in love with the story of the first game and the DLC. The mechanics were flawed it is true, but the way the characters were written and the story organically unfolds it just, it just really got me hooked. I said to myself, "This would make an AWESOME TV show". Looks like HBO had the same idea apparently. This game has stuck with me in a way others couldn't. I loved all 4 Uncharted games but like most mainstream games they are a PG sort of good where is this was Game of Thrones adult good (WINK WINK).

Fast forward to a few months ago. I was riding high, very excited for the new game. With the pandemic i figured this would be an amazing game to bring out right now. Much like with the new Star Wars movies I was thinking that the possibilities could be endless. You could literally make the safest story possible and still win, both critically and with the fans. Well HBO then announces they are going to make a SHOW based on TLOU with the original writer and the show runner from Chernobyl. MY GOD how awesome....HOW AWESOME!

Then came the spoilers. Of course I didn't pay attention to them. For weeks, i stayed off of social media the best i could. I didn't watch any youtube videos, until at last every aspect of what little of my online presence there was, pointed to the fact that everyone unanimously hated the leaks. I figured "How bad could they possibly be?". After all, this is a game meant to shock and awe, meant to bring you in with the amazing characters that you want to see succeed or fail and then and only then, bring you to your knees. Make you rethink what is right and wrong. Real moral dilemmas we could all experience. Well we can thank Instagram for spoiling one the biggest parts for me. With one "Swing", one little picture. the whole thing was ruined. It was a character i knew and loved, yes, but it had to be an honorable death the character deserved right? There had to be more context to what happened. I caved, i looked at the spoilers. My answer was a strong NO. Instead of treating this character with the end they truly deserved, it is at the hands of some MINOR MINOR.....MINOR characters that i didn't even come close to remembering, daughter...son.... or whatever they go by. I honestly don't know and I don't give a hoot what the characters orientation is. In fact, i just don't give a crap about them honestly AT ALL. Usually we tend to care about the people we spent a good portion of 20 hours with in the first game. It would be like Disney bring Mark Hamill back just to sit him on some rocks and not do AWESOME Luke Skywalker **** or if they teased Jon Snows lineage for over TEN years only to tell you that you are stupid for following the plot points. HA! GOT YOU! ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED??? Also RIP Snoke

Frankly, NO, i'm not entertained. i am actually very saddened that the very thing that can make a show or game great can willingly be used in such a poor manner just for the sake of surprising an audience. You DO NOT need to destroy everything about a story or character to make the audience surprised. Characters don't need to act out of character to reach a destination in the story. Stop dumbing down great characters to serve as plot devices. It feels forced.... awkward, not organic. It really takes me out of a story when in the middle of a scene I say to myself, "Wait,.... why did they do that, ....that isn't how that character would approach this situation." But the story needed them to, so they are written stupid that way.

OK so having said all that, The Graphics look AMAZING as usual with Naughty Dog. The mechanics are better, virtually everything is better, besides the most important part. THE STORY. I had a lot more about the story i didn't like but only so much can be said in 5 thousand characters. Just like with Game of Thrones and Star Wars, this could have been one of the greatest stories in the history of media. I am literally heart broken and just like with S8 of GOT, this game totally ruins replays of the first game for me. KNOWING how god awful and ridiculously remedial part II's story ended up being.

Above all else, it hurts leaving this game with the extreme disappointment of feeling "What could have been".

A certain level of conformation has been put by its creators onto its new narrative, everything feels a little more forced and out of place. The characters are told to go right when they would otherwise go left and the narrative is a little disjointed between character coming of age and wild slasher film.

It lacks grace, it lacks cohesion, it lacks substance. They haven't created something new for games as a medium but instead tried to mimic the thing they really actually wanted to be working on, film. The irony while they made a cinematic experience for games, they inadvertently showed why they work on games and not cinema, lack of ability with flaws on show. But the presentation alone will trick many, especially in my opinion reviewers who clamor also for a more cinematic artistic world of games in a bid to feel more cultured.

    Avoid.

The Last of Us Part 2 is one of the most beautiful game graphically in this generation so far. The depiction of post apocalyptic America is top notch. Acting and sounds is also great. Something all of us expected from the beginning.

    Visuals and Productions: 8/10

    Story:
The Last of Us Part 2 failed miserably on its story telling. Character's decision sometimes felt forced and out of their usual character making it feel like the story is rushed and lacked with natural development. Most of the new characters felt flat and
not relateable. The story itself is riddled with plot holes that is sometimes plainly laughable something you do not expect after the success of the first game. It didn't also helped that I was forced to play as a character that I don't sympathize with. The ending made the whole game pointless, I just wish they gave players the choice on this one. If you like the characters of the first game, don't play this one.

    Story: 1/10

    Gameplay:
The gameplay is very similar with the first game which I think one of the weaker parts of the The Last of Us Remastered (2014). Game stages felt repetitive and sometimes empty. The semi open world felt pointless story wise although I think it may add to the overall experience to some. What I like about this game is the comprehensive game difficulty customization which I hope to see more in future games. Overall gameplay felt boring and repetitive, and could easily be just a 15 to 20-hour game. It also offers nothing new compared to the first game which I didn't like, gameplay wise to begin with.

    Gameplay: 4/10

Overall, The Last of Us Part 2 failed to lived to its hype. I love how the first game was grounded on realism and has relateable characters and story development, Naughty Dog failed to build on these, tried to make the Part 2 so different to the point that it is unrecognizable and forced.

    Overall: 4.3/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Firstly, this game is great in the diversity, ethnically, gender-based and sexual-orientation regions of the characters - even highlighting strength of pregnant women.
However, no matter how great the foundations of a character are - poor writing shines through - and the characters are ultimately shallow and rushed.

What really hurts this game, is how it punishes you for the decisions in the first game - even though everyone loved how the first game ended: it is why it was so successful - the writing agreed with what the player would have felt and wanted.

It is an insult to the player to play as the person who killed one of the most beloved characters, and expect them to instantly sympathise. The arc to Abby had to the potential to be great, especially as a muscular female character (not commonly done) - yet, it was introduced in the wrong part of the game and it is difficult to want to hear her after her actions 2 hours into the game.

However, by no means does Abby later in the game show remorse for her actions - which begs the question: why should she be a protagonist?
It is made clear than Ellie's actions are wrong, she is fuelled by revenge which is harmful only to her and those around her. It is made clear by the writing that the player *should* empathise with both protagonists Ellie and Abby - and during the final fight not want either to win, having developed a strong bond to both. Except, Abby was allowed to kill Joel, but Ellie is not allowed to kill Abby - for no real reason except for a contradicting character arc.
A more contradicting arc might be Joel's lack of survival skills as he wanders into Abby's trap - but that was overshadowed by the rest of the games poor writing - even if it is the catalyst of the games events.

TLOU is a story driven game, and if the story is riddled with plot holes, plagued by weak character development and finishes unresolved: then it is a bad game no matter how good the cinematics are.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am utterly heartbroken and angry. The plot is over ambitious, lazy, sloppy and nihilistic. It felt forced. Naughty dog bit off more then they could chew with this one. Tlou2 could have gone several ways in terms of plot with the existing characters, yet we get the cliche revenge plotline with the character abandoning the quest altogether to realise revenge isn't the answer. This trope has been done several times before, with more finesse and better execution. The circumstances that lead to Joel's death was out of character as well. The Joel I know from tlou1, a hardened survivor who has fought tooth and nail to survive the past 20 years would NEVER end up in a situation like that. Joel was intensely alert, critical, clever and intuitive. One of the bigger issues was the constant reinforcing that Joel is a villain who lacks empathy,Ellie believing the cure would have been a guaranteed sure shot success ..... WHY? This retcons the first one completely. The beauty of the tlou1 which was it's moral ambiguity, which is lost. The treatment of the main chatacter in her own game is utterly cruel and disappointing, and seemed unfair. Ellie is broken beyond repair. She chooses to be the better person, gives up on her vengeance and hate, still manages to be on the losing side as she ends up losing everything and everyone. Ellie gets a depressing, worthless, futile and a hopeless conclusion. Her BIGGEST FEAR has become a reality by the end.
The gameplay, beautiful sceneries, and new characters like dina and jesse are few of the positives of game. The space shuttle cutscene, the museum flashback sequence, ellie and joel's flashbacks were the only parts that recreate the magic and beauty of tlou1.
Abby... the forced deuteragonist, is an utter failure of character execution. Her character was forced onto us, felt hasty and lacked real build up. The abby-lev bond which is pretty much walmart version ellie and joel falls flat on it's face. The heart and soul of the game is butchered completely - ellie and joels bond.
The false advertising to make us believe joel is alive and good?this is an ellie and joel centric game? A complete mockery of the fans who waited 7 years to see their favorite characters get horribly treated, retconned, disrespected and thrown under the bus in favour of new unlikable characters.

Joel & Ellie: Joel didn’t deserve that death he did what any father would do to protect their child he lost everything he wasn’t ready to lose another daughter for a fantasy because the doctor needs a lab more tests better equipment so basically the doctor was ready to kill Ellie for nothing she is only to him his first subject, Joel all he wanted is a better future for Ellie because he couldn’t secure his daughter.

They made Ellie hate Joel for 2 years didn’t get the chance to forgive him before his death and lost her fingers she no longer can play the get are kills everyone was involved to Joel death when she catches Abby decided to let her go and ends up all alone even though that was her biggest fear just wow.

The plot: it’s revenge why they didn’t make it Joel get his revenge for his daughter death from the who ordered their death and more families, the funny part you don’t get to revenge Joel and lose Jesse the girlfriend leaves Tommy lost an eye no respect to all the characters. Abby & the doctor: the doctor is selfish killing an innocent kid for nothing didn’t even answer Marlin question when she asked what if it’s your daughter just hoping the world come back easy we all know it takes a lot of years it might not work even,

Abby: she finds Joel 4 years later kills him after saving her from dying she brutally killed him at least he gave her father a quick death hurts a lot of people and escaped wining she is no better than her father at least she had a parent while Ellie didn’t they want us to fell her side all I feel is hate and anger and wish that she never existed.

When you kill Joel, and make Ellie literally insane, you ruined the reason everybody loved that game. Sure, the gameplay is pretty good, but for me it was all about that amazing story from the first one. Not to mention Abby, because who the **** cares about her anyway? I would've been fine with them killing joel if they did it in a more heroic way, a more deserving death for such a great character. Only good parts of the story are Ellie's and the flashbacks which aren't related to Abby.

Such a shame that a game like this was destroyed.

To be very clear, it's not WHAT happened, it's HOW. It's not the gender or race of characters, but the the emptiness of their souls and the alien choices they make.

One may be quick to assume that the theme of this game is revenge, however I would make the case that 'contrived' would be more accurate. Any question the director may have hoped to ask the audience about revenge is quietened by the shallowness of the characters and the nonsensical choices they make, all to forward the story in a direction so forced that I think it should file a sexual assault allegation against Naughty Dog.

To say that a game can't be rated bad because things didn't happen in a way that I liked, does not detract from the fact that it was objectively poor writing, therefore it does not align with the previous game. If they want to make stories that aim at another target group then go ahead, but the reason it hurts people so much is because they should have done it with a new franchise instead of ripping up an already loved one just to please someone else. It is clear that the old was (literally) slaughtered to make way for the new, hense the injustice felt by many TLOU1 fans.

Token diversity characters aren't treated as real people with real personalities, ironically most of them die anyway and for some reason they didn't make Abby an ethnically diverse character.
Something that's been bugging me for a while about Naughty Dog, has anyone else noticed how every prominent black woman is never fully black, but a mixed complexion, Nadine in Uncharted, Marlene, Riley, Nora... It's not a problem for me however a character looks, but I'm starting to think they are afraid to make a woman who is very black... like they don't really care about diversity at all. To think they are diverse game makers is a lie. They just get to check diversity boxes.

    Shorter notes:
-It goes on too long, could have cut out at least 5 hours and been much better for it.
-Boring dialogue, especially during open world.
-Joel and Ellie do not have any of their personality traits from the first game.
-Feels like LGBT fetish porn throughout.
-False advertising based on original trailers not reflecting final product.
-More difficult infected enemies should have been introduced during open world as it was boring.

    Pros:
    -Fun game play
    -New melee options
    -New infected enemies

    In conclusion:

One of the most upsetting parts is the earlier trailers suggest Joel plays a much larger part in the game. I'd easily call it false advertising. This is why I marked it down from 5 to 4. It's not my problem that they decided to remake it half way through production to render the teasers completely irrelevant. We had already pre-ordered.

It suffers the same problems as a standard Hollywood lazy churn out blockbuster, but took triple the time to produce. I will not be investing in future Naughty Dog games, Naughty Dog has lost it's reputation as one of the best.

Was it really worth the huge re-write half way through production, making the original trailer no longer exist in the final product? I wish I could have played that game instead.

I feel this game could have done so much better with a better pacing. I won't hate on it because you can see there was an effort talking about graphics, music and details. The script is where everything goes nuts and you see the relevant stuff happening way too fast and out of nowhere and some situations that should be short scenes go for way too long. I'm not against killing a character like Joel, but the execution of the whole scene fails because everything happens way too fast, out of nowhere and with no explanation with a character that we just got introduced to. Other than how pointless Ellie's revenge journey was, i loved the graphics and the songs. Hot damn they're good.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To be honest I really wanted to like this game, but I just can't seem to, even after I've let the end simmer down a bit. I feel really disappointed. What made TLOU1 so so good and timeless was, in my opinion, the story. The characters allowed you to feel hope, after establishing a world in which everything feels lost, cold, and hardened. It explores a personal story of two people who on their way to deliver the creation of a vaccine simultaneously find meaning to their lives in such a tough world (very reflective of our own world). The growth of Joel and Ellie's relationship as they both become more and more loving towards each other is one of the most touching things I've seen in gaming. It was valuable emotionally and allowed room for growth.

We know this world is bleak - people are really desperate, they would kill and loot to survive. They would betray and make selfish decisions. People are utterly inhumane - which is true in both games. TLOU1 uses this as a strength to convey a meaningful story, Joel and Ellie fight for more than to just survive. In TLOU2, it's like the creators wanted to display torture for the sake of torturing. There is no substance in the story, in the new characters, in the relationships, and decisions. It's so disappointing because technically, the game is incredible. The screenplay, scenery, sound effects are insane. Even the little countless ways to subvert your expectations and the creepy atmosphere is nailed amazingly. However, this combined with the story leaves a bad taste. A second good thing I can say is though, if you genuinely like the story, then it is rewarding for you. There are a lot of cool parallels, like Abby finding someone to care for, just like Joel with Ellie.

But I don't like the story.

It's not even about the creation of characters to fit a certain agenda. I'm one of the POC identified in the game, as well as part of LGBT+, but at some parts of the game, the representation feels almost forced? Personally, I think it'd be more effective representation if one's identity isn't shoved in your face a lot of the times and would even become a part of the plot. It just doesn't make sense to me, in such a world where death is so easy. The best scenes to me, the ones where I could have cried, were the very few scenes with Joel and Ellie in flashbacks. Those were spectacular and held value for me more than seeing someone who just looked like myself on screen. Everything else felt like a dry spell, and in my head, once the flashbacks would end, I'd be thinking, "Here we go again.." It's a ridiculously bad written plot and I don't understand how this franchise could fall from grace so steeply.

The gameplay of the game is a masterpiece, but it falls with the story, a good development but a bad narrative. And an addition, do not follow the path of the politically correct dictated by ideologies (in this case LGBTQ and feminism) because it was very clear and it bothered me that male characters (Joel, Tommy, Jesse, etc.) were constantly subdued and killed as if they were children fighting against giants. I clarify before they accuse me that I believe in the superiority of man, etc. I'm not on the side of any ideology, they even seem useless to me. greetings and congratulations on partly making a good game. When a game feels like work to play through and gives you the feeling of immediately returning it, that's not a good sign. Yet I continued on hoping maybe I just needed more time with it like the FF7 remake or other slower paced games like RDR2. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The only enjoyable parts were the flash backs because they used already established characters with more personality, unlike the new characters that are as likable as a napkin. And with an entire game centered around a story driven narrative, the characters are the centerpiece and make or break an "adventure" game like this that is very heavy with cutscenes.

Sure the graphics, sound, and voice acting are top notch, but what does that matter when the story is completely amateurish with plot twists that seem like they were plucked from some reddit fan fiction. Mirror opposite from the first game in terms of depth and chemistry. I really tried to appreciate the new characters, but without giving spoilers, their motives and general traits are very unlikable and flat. The entire time I felt like I was playing some generic Netflix zombie series and that's a shame. I'm aware the writing teams were changed from the previous game, but come on. Don't use the same title if this is the level of writing to be expected. Compared to the Uncharted series and the first TLOU, it's no where near as compelling.

Overall, this games deserves a zero because it's done something I've seen very few games do; tarnish the franchise so badly that I'm reluctant to even play the previous entry again that was easily game of the year and pretend this one just doesn't exist at all. There are so many different ways the story could have been written to be more engaging and better paced, but I suppose this is what happens when a company cash grabs and knows mainstream reviewers will shower it in praise. To rub salt in the wound, there are obvious politically correct tropes crammed into this game to cast the widest net possible and upset the least amount of people. The whole experience feels so artificial as if it was created in a lab with a panel of every affinity group and this is the result. Stale, generic, and just not interesting in any way.

Atleast voice acting, acting, graphics, and motion capture was good. But the storyline was **** than a teenage brain

This is my opinion as a console outlaw since I do not have any, but I have waited for a good sequel for this great game, one of the best games with the best narration, unfortunately from the moment I found out and investigated the leaks of the game, my desire to see, hear or try this game by myself or by any means possible disappeared and I do not see anything good in the story whenThis is my opinion as a console outlaw since I do not have any, but I have waited for a good sequel for this great game, one of the best games with the best narration, unfortunately from the moment I found out and investigated the leaks of the game, my desire to see, hear or try this game by myself or by any means possible disappeared and I do not see anything good in the story when compared to its predecessor, there is no improvement, but a failure, the characters do not react sensibly the way they used to, now Ellie is more hypocritical and there is no logical reason, Joel and Tommy die incredibly dishonorable, unfortunate and stupid (in my opinion) and only for the advancement of the story, not for him player feel and pleasure ...

My disappointment is immense, I immersed myself impressively in the story since I discovered it in 2015, I am very glad that they have considered doing a sequel, only I feel that this was not the right way

I do not want to support the game not only because of its divided history (divided because it divides the fandom between the part of the '' righteous '' who are the fans who think that this story is well done and there is nothing wrong; the other part would be the people who see the bad of the game and make their voices known on the subject)

I don't want to support the game because of the actions of director Neil Druckmann and The Naughty Dog; blocking opinions on Twitter along the way for those who wanted and needed to know what the game was going to be (I understand that they did it for sales and avoid disenchanting their faithful fans, but if you are a company with '' so many trophies insured in your pocket '' As Joel's voice actor Troy Backer says, you could let your fans say what they want without expecting it to turn against you since this should be your '' masterpiece '' and show your confidence in him, not doing what you did and showing that the game would be that divisive) and giving the community their RIGHT to express themselves, not take it away, and not only on Twitter, on YouTube with Bloggers and Youtubers who gave their sincere opinion, which if they resulted in a true reality of the game (which is not the best nor is it as good as many fans of the series make it seem) it would result in a block, a deletion of your video and stop giving you publicity

If you read my criticism and understood my points, I am grateful if you could understand it, but, I understand that you want not to contribute in my opinion, the view of the subject of each person is subjective and mine is clear and simple in something that I do not like and I put it bluntly, the sex scene, the antagonists, the direction of the story and the ending are disappointing for players like me who have waited over 5 years for this game that resulted in something unwanted from the sequel

    Story Telling: 4/10
    graphics:7/10
    Gameplay:6/10
    Characters:5/10

It's not the perfect game the ''game journalists'' want everyone to know, i hope this just help to improve for some good games, not for money

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
