It’s a shame the game went that direction.Joel and tommy are survivers for 24 years and said their names to completely strangers like unexperienced naive kids.After that joel gets killed in the most disgusting and dishonest way i have ever seen in a video game.You hunt down the killer of joel but the best part is you play as her too.You finally come to the end to get your revenge only to let the killer live and she bites your fingers off too and now you can’t even play with the guitar anymore what joel gifted you.The whole story is a joke and i hope neil drugmann gets kicked out of the studio he is definetly in the wrong position.
    Pros:Gameplay is better than the first one
    Open worldish feeling with a lot more exploration
    Cons:Story and direction is a mess

    Visuals are great, gameplay is really similar to the original The Last Of Us, story is stupid.
    The way they tell the story with flashbacks etc just makes it worse.

    This game has so many issues.

    The graphics are so beautiful at times, and at others it looks like a playstation 2 game. The story is incredibly stupid with so many plot holes. The redeeming qualities of the characters in the first game is completely gone, and I found myself not caring about any character in the game at all.     Amazing to look at, really how did they get this out of a PS4 pro, cannot fault it.
    The sound design is great, a few repeated lines that keep been said but still great for this age of tech.
    Animations are great/fluid.

    The OK
    The acting is a mixed bag, it's well done but the script is at times is cringe.

    The BAD
    This is the big bad that destroyers all the other good work, the story is painfully bad. By that I mean its The Last Jedi bad (ok some like that film)
    There are decisions made in-game that are "wtf, did they forget about character behavior/knowledge in the 1st game" plot holes, side stories where I was let saying out loud "Why are you making us play this long side story... it's crap" then the wonderful swap where you play as a person you basically hate....and this is not even mentioning a worse death than Luke in The Last Jedi.
    I get people need to die in games and films, to motivate others, give a reason for their actions, but write it well and in such a way that even those who disagree with it, still see the reason and can understand it.
    After about 15 hrs I was just playing to finish it, get it done, sadly it got worse near the end but by then I had given up and just wanted it finished so I could get it on Ebay.

    Negatives outweigh the positives, tremendously. The story is abhorrent in every sense of the word. Logically, it doesn’t make too much sense in grand scheme of the overarching plot. It almost feels as if TLOU1 and TLOU2 are in entirely different universes. While it might be innocuous at first, the romance/sexual plots become increasingly contrived and painfully exasperating. The juxtaposition of multiple sexual trysts in a apocalyptic setting make the game jarring, and at points unbearable. There is one sexual encounter that is completely tasteless, and actually felt ashamed viewing it, much without my consent. The emotional highs are at best counterfeit of any actual human response. It feels as if the characters become bizarre caricatures of what somebody who has never interacted with society would think normal people would behave. If someone told me the story was written by a pre-pubescent teen tasked at writing a zombie holocaust melodrama, i would believe them. It’s that bad. Shallow and devoid of any realistic emotional nuance, this game is a dud and falls flat, far beyond the expectations of the first game.

    I would not pay the admission price for this game, wait to get it on cheap, or find another way to play it. The asking price is to much for such a abomination of story telling.    … Expand

    Sobrevaloradisimo el juego, en jugabilidad mejoro mucho y graficamente sobre todo, ademas de ambientacion, sigilo y un poco la IA, pero el final y por como arruinaron a los dos personajes principales fue lo peor, demasiado forzado la agenda de lo politicamente correcto, este juego tiene mucha politica progresista, paso...

    Imperdonable lo que les hiceron a Joel y a Ellie...

    Beside the story, gameplay is completely copy and paste from the last game, with a bit more exploration and, well now you can "jump" (only where the game wants you to, so its basically useless).    Wow...just wow.

    - graphics are outstanding
    - acting, voice acting all of that better than most movies
    - sound design amazing
    All of it just beautiful.
    But the story is basically game of thrones season 7/8 maybe a bit better, because nothing can top that clustertruck.

Technologically advanced, but the most important factor, the story, did not take center stage. The biggest problem is that making abby as playable character. Perhaps the producer induced Abby to understand her revenge more by playing it ourselves, but I would say it was a big mistake. The most important thing when we understand others is the position of a third party. This is where altruism works because humans can never be anyone else. However, when he is busy cursing the character who killed the main character of previous and the representative character of this franchise, which user would be able to understand? If only they had made Ellie playable and showed Abby's story only through video, there might have been users who understood even a little bit. During the game, when the transition from Elly to Abby was made, the level of immersion in the game dropped sharply.This eventually faded the subject of vengeance that Naughtydog pursued.The second problem is of course the killing of Joel. The anger of the users is natural because they killed the main character who was emotionally involved in previous work.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A HUGE LETDOWN! Everything is good except the writing, The Last of Us 2's Writing is absolutely **** here's why I think that:

    - The Story -
    In a nutshell.. The Entire Story is "ReVEnGe iS BaD". That's the theme.. "ReVegne SUper BaD" The same **** thing beatin unto you constantly throughout the story. It got tiresome & boring quickly. It's a generic cliche story told million times before, it feels so lazy specifically compared to the first game which was so unique and masterful in it's themes & storytelling. It's really disappointing.. - The Characters -
    So Many Characters in this game are introduced then Forgotten completely. Most of them lack depth and development because you barely even see most of them. they feel so bland. - Jesse impregnates Dina, then fights with Ellie a bit then dies suddenly, and then he's completely forgotten as if he never existed.
    - Dina has no real character to her, she just makes jokes sometimes & she's the main love interest for Ellie.. That's all. Barely any reason to care about her

    - Manny.. Literally all he does is that he spits on Joel's body & says pendejo a lot.. He dies in front of Abby then completely forgotten. - Abby's character was handled horribly.. Joel kills Abby's Father to *Save* Ellie, because she's like his daughter & the surgery is not even guaranteed to work, so Ellie might of died for nothing, Abby tortures then kills Joel out of *Vengeance* literally minutes after he saved her life without any hesitation, and the writers expect me to care for Abby?? I think Conceptually, the idea of making the player control the villain is great, but the execution was absolutely terrible. Showing flashbacks of her 9 HOURS after she killed Joel, forcing you to play as her for 10 HOURS.. Totally disastrous attempt to make us "care" for her.. She could of been a really great character but they managed to effed up the execution sadly.. - Ellie suddenly becomes an insufferable brat and completely changed from the first game without any real believable development to her character

    - Joel barely appears and dies in the first 2 hours out of nowhere in the most pathetic way possible. His character was really dumbed-down. He survived in a zombie apocalypse for 25 YEARS and knows not trust anyone, but they made him stupid enough to share his name to total strangers. Completely out of character. This is the same with Tommy

    - There's this pregnant women who looks like she's about to give birth, stupidly.. she fights in the front lines?! Literally with Guns.. How are we supposed to care about characters like these when it feels like the writers themselves don't care about them.

    - The Ending -
    Ellie mercilessly kills HUNDREDS of people without hesitation throughout the Game, she left her home to kill Abby after she let her go Twice, she was determined to kill her, After gunning through countless of soldiers to get to her. She starts fighting her with a knife..?? Then Using her Fists?? SHE HAD GUNS, WHY DIDN'T SHE SHOOT HER?? Feels like the writers wanted Ellie to lose her fingers at the end but couldn't figure out a competent way to do it..

    The Ending is just so unsatisfying.. Ellie literally ABANDONS HER LOVER & CHILD TO KILL ABBY but she let her ago? After ALL THE TROUBLE she went through, she decides to change her mind when there's literally only the character you're SUPPOSED to kill left..

    One of the most underwhelming endings to a story i have ever seen.    … Expand

    When I saw psx, I think in 2017... I **** cried. I've seen that interview... Idk, maybe 40 times. I just love Troy and Ashley. And part when Troy said "don't let fear be the reason why you don't do something".... oh boy.

    So yeah, I'm not here just because they **** up the franchise of my favorite game of all time. I'm here because I have seen everything. And I really hate it.

    I don't hate the game because they kill Joel. That was something that they had to do. But the way they did it. You can clearly see him totally out of character. Doing and saying stupid things that a survivor as him would never say or do. And then there's Abby. Oh boy......

    You can feel the agenda from the beging. All white males are bad. The only two white males are off the picture as fast as they can get them out. Then you have the lesbians, the hulk and the trans (and the asian soy kid...). And yeah, you have lots and lots of talking about kisses... and feelings.... and sex scenes...... I mean.... really? Who the **** wants to see Abby's man titis? What the **** is this? This should be a continuation of the story, but it isn't. The narrative is veeeery bad, the gameplay is repetitive and boring.... The problem with this game is that Naughty Dog tries catering towards the LGBTQ community and abandoning it's core values and fans that made this first part so great. I will start with the good aspects. The graphics are unmatched, the best the PS4 has to offer. The AI, the choreography are top notch. The gameplay is very enjoyable. For these aspects I will give it a 4/10. Sadly TLOU2 is a story based game which means it needs a good story for it to succeed. Unfortunately this is where the game loses it's 6 points.
    SPOILERS INCOMING:
    The game starts up just fine, revealing new characters and trying to make them familiar to us.One of those new characters is a transexual woman called Abby. The character development for this character is quite bad. It is a character we know nothing about and once you reach the middle of the game, this character kills Joel because he killed his father in the first part. Thus gamers would expect that we will hunt this Abby down to take revenge for Joel. Instead of this, we get to play as the killer of Joel( Joel the beloved character to the fans that had build a strong bond with because of the first game.) trying to kill the other beloved character for all fans, Ellie. In other words Naughty Dog **** all over the feelings that were developed by fans via the first game, the groundworks that made TLOU 1 one of the most loved games ever. And this happens because for some strange reason the company/developers think that it is a good idea to get a favorable view by the LGBTQ minorities and completely ignore their base fans that made Naughty Dog the company it is today. All in all this game had the chance to become the best Playstation game ever, but some vain ideologies made it into the greatest disaster of the current generation. It's a shame.    … Expand

    Graphics... That's the only good thing about this. Everything else is either mediocre or down right awful. The game play did not evolve one bit since 2013. It's still a walking simulator that's more a movie than a game, which would be enjoyable if it had a good story but God damn is it bad. The story simply broke my heart and not in the good way. It's like a spit in the face of the entire fan base. It's like the worst fan fiction you could possibly find. Seriously? This is what you came up after 7 years? Did Twitter write this game? It's full of plot holes and the characters you fell in love with in the first game are completely ruined and you are forced to play with the character that ruined them. I don't mind the woke stuff but when so much of it is obviously forced down your throat it feels like the entire game was built around it so if people don't like it you can pull the victim card and say that they are ists and phobes and whatever. And the director to preach so much about sexualising women in games is bad only than to put that Abby scene in the game? I can't unsee that. WTF were you thinking? I'd rather watch 2 girls one cup on repeat while eating. Let me tell you a little secret western game devs. People are playing games for entertainment and they'd rather see pretty things while doing it than ugl.. excuse me FUGLY ones! This is never going to change. How is sexualising men was never an issue? People don't like to be preached to and to be told what to think. In a video game setting, that choice should be always ours.

    Даже не смотря на феминизм и то как игра уходит в сторону ЛГБТ сообществ ( хотя самого действа оказалось на удивление мало). У игры куча других минусов, начиная от сюжета и заканчивая отношением персонажей между собой.

    Even despite the feminism and how the game goes towards the LGBT communities (although the action itself was surprisingly small). The game has a bunch of other minuses, starting from the plot and ending with the ratio of characters to each other.    … Expand

    I was gonna give this game a 2 , but now that a few weeks have passed and my initial rage is over i do see what ND wanted to do. But the way they went about it because yes the entire Abby group started for me at a negative 10 , but by the end of her section i would not lie i came came as close as to rating Abby a 0 , maybe that is nostalgia of the Joel and Ellie thing they were doing withI was gonna give this game a 2 , but now that a few weeks have passed and my initial rage is over i do see what ND wanted to do.     But yet this game rates no more than 4 for me now that i have turned meek towards it. The story was truly implemented badly , and even if they had just switched how you play the game or marketed Abby as the main character i do believe i would dislike the game less. If you need to know anything else wrong with the game look no further than your biggest individual you-tube reviewers. Do not go around trusting IGN or any of those site btw , while they are not shills or so i believe, it is access media , look no further than death stranding reviews and that game was controversial as well but at least it was a new IP and did not kill of the character we were supposed to relate to in the first game.    … Expand

The new jump mechanic is awkward and doesn’t add anything valuable. Naughty dog did not do a good job. The writing team should be ashamed. Killing the main character that was beloved by the fanbase is just like shooting yourself in the foot. Why did the game developers think this was a good idea. The new characters are not interesting and don't give any value to the game. By the end of the game you just feel lost and sad. I truly wish that they had scrapped they whole story and had done something complete different. The gameplay and the graphics are the only things that make this game worthwhile to play.… Expand

Incredibly stupid writing where characters keep making idiotic mistakes that cause people to die. Ellies and dinas relationship is creepy, theyre acting like 20years married couple even though theyre barely adults gives me the creeps, nothing wrong with them being lesbians.

    Joel dies in a very frustrating way and later half of the game you play as his killer as the game attempts to make her likable. They fail. Miserably. They even make you fight ellie as her. Why??? Nobody likes this she man.

    Revenge bad story, who very basic story. The ending is very bad. 1hr waste of time after which abby doesnt even die but instead ellie loses her gf, their baby, 2 of her fingers and she can no longer play the guitar which is something she enjoyed playing. What warranted this?? She saves abbys life and she gets punished for it. What a terrible ending. I get they were going for this bitter sweet deep ending but it just fails. Maybe had abby died in some satisfying manner it would have been bareable but they totally messed this up.

    Combat is the same as last game, slight improvements. Its fine, but it gets very tedious especially as the story doesnt hold interest so you get bored with it quick. Especially with having to play as abby for half of the game.

    What a disgraceful 2nd part to a phenomenal game.
    And critics think this is just as good if not better than the first? Who is taking these people seriously??    … Expand

    Gameplay: Outdated boring gameplay to the point its embarrassing, typical stealth third person shooter template feeling. No enemy variation to speak off, bosses if you can even call them that are universally Bad.

    Story: Laughable story that tries way to hard to be dark and edgy to the point it makes your eyes roll and its pretty evident that whoever came up with it also isnt particular fond of males, misandry all around in the story,
    including Developer self insert and finger wagging, bad characters all around Abby in particular is one of the worst characters i have yet seen in any modern aaa "movie" game.

    Visuals: Very good and pretty realistic but absolutely boring to look at with no imagination in its setting.
    At times when you play this thing you really would just wish that the people who made these games look so good would do a collaboration with people who know how to make games, as it stands right now the visuals are wasted on a **** game.

    Music: Might be the one saving grace but even then its nothing outstanding that sticks with you.

    This game to me proved that modern day "rofessional" reviewers dont care about gameplay and wouldn't know a good game if it bites them in the ass.

    Modern "professional" reviewers are noticeably confused and probably a better fit as movie reviewers and not game reviewers anymore.
    A game like Final Fantasy 7remake with a pitch perfect combat system, countless different enemies and every single Bossfights so good that it would make your average western AAA studio beg to just have one of those as their final boss in their game gets a 8/10 from the so called "professionals".

    All while last of us 2 with UE4 tier outdated stealth/third person combat template you have played a 1000 times already and about 10 different humanoid enemies gets a 10/10 because of "muh social issues" and a forced "dark" eye rolling story.
    This to me proves that modern reviewers influence over the last 10 years on the video game Industry has been largely negative and i am glad they steadily lose more and more of what little influence they still have.    … Expand

    For game that's heavily based on story narrative, it is filled with plot holes and moronic decisions. Spoiler but if you were looking for an Ellie and Joel team play you will be sorry. Not only does Ellie and Joel not interact with each other but Joel dies 2 hours into the game by a new protagonist Abby. In which the game makes you play 14 hours as this character trying to make you feel sympathetic, how can you feel sympathetic when Joel saved Abby's life from a horde of Clickers only to be brutally murdered at abbys hands but it's okay it's a Revenge story remember, you know that you're going to kill Abby in the end right. Well you would be wrong not only do you not get a choice to kill her but after killing hundreds if not thousands of people to get to her at the very end you get an epiphany that you shouldn't kill her because revenge is bad. And that's just a story.

    Characters are bland two dimensional personality, there was little to no character development at all. This was a real disappointment considering ln The Last of Us 1 had a lot of character building it really put you into the story made you feel immersed into the environment when the protagonist was hurt you felt it when the protagonist was feeling Joy you felt it. This game however felt as if it was trying way too hard to achieve something that was just not there. It has left me more angry and frustrated then any other emotion.

    Gameplay was better than the last of us 1 however due to the story I just could not enjoy it and is why my score for gameplay is 7 out of 10, there's nothing really overly new besides two new enemies and a jump mechanic that's laughably horrible.

    Graphics are the only selling point I could give this game, it looks absolutely amazing seeing how the world being overtaken by Nature is just jaw dropping and can be arguably next gen graphics or the absolute pinnacle of PlayStation 4.

    Overall I feel like this game is a complete failure narrative wise. Gameplay was niche but not enjoyable. Characters Hollow and unlikable.    … Expand

    Так засрать игру, это надо постараться. Представьте себе, что вы играете более 40 часов геймплея для этой концовки. Ну вот пример Red Dead Redemption 2. Только представьте себе, что Джон Марстон пощадил Мику Белла, а потом пошел домой и стал играть на гитаре....Даже Death Stranding был гораздо лучший конец, чем один из нас часть 2.     Great graphics, beautifully crafted environments, solid gameplay like the first. But the story is just awful. What I know of the story ruins it. Everything and every one that was made good in the first game is completely destroyed in this one for a character that has little to do with anything really and is entirely unlikeable or relatable.

I finished the first Part on the PS3 3 Times and the Remastered 2 Times. The first Part is not perfect. The KI is dull and the gameplay kinda repetive. But the story is one of the best and emotionally touching ones i have encountered in the Video Game Industry. And I have to say, i was massively hyped for the second Part. And now. After finishing it i decided to write my first Review to express my dissapointment. Notice: This is my personal Opinion and nothing more.
    So the Last of Us Part 2 is graphics wise a beautiful game. The Apocalypse looks absolutly stunning. It is detailed and believable. The Motion Capturing is top Tier. The Facial expressions are just great. The sequences of Ellie and Yoel are just what i expected and bring back the warm feeling i have developed for the characters during the first Game.
    And unfortunaly thats the only positive points i have for this Game. The Character of Abby is just.......... I dont know. I came never to the point where i started to sympathize with her. The game really tries to show you her perspective, for example when you see the Hospital scene from the first Game with diffrent eyes, but for me she just stays the character that killed Joel. I have no problem with Joel dying. I expected it from this Game. But not in this way. What leads me to the biggest Problem i have with this Game.
    The Story. Goddammit. if anyone of you reading this works as a Writer for a Game Studio, Movie Studio or Comics. PLEASE TAKE NOTES: SUBVERTING EXPECTATIONS DOES NOT MAKE AUTOMATICALLY A GOOD STORY! Seriously we have edured enough of this **** The Story is a classic Circle of Revenge. Nothing wrong. The Story of Part 1 wasnt Groundbreaking either. But Part 1 was well written and Part 2 is not. In Part 1 you had moments of joy, moments of grim, loud moments, silent moments. Part 2 is misery Porn. And it uses the shocks. Remember Ellie killing David in Part 1? Like we dont see the dismembered Face? It was left to your Imagination. Part 2 shows off the violence like nothing before. I have no Problem with violence in Storys as long as it has a purpose. Remember Spec Ops the line? The Phosphore Scene? This was violence used well. The Last of us uses violence in a pornographic way. Loud, vulgar for the shock effect. In the End, after all the wortk and all the killings to hunt down Abby, Ellie realises Killing is bad and spare abbys life. Like really? After loosing Wife, Kid, Father Figure, two finger Abby is allowed to drive off with a boat to live happily after? Thats your great story Naughty Dog really? Really? That is some Bull**** an edgy 14 year old would write for his "deep and emotional" fan fiction. Which leads me to my next point of critic.The dialogues. Man who is responsible for this? By god the lord allmighty. The same 14 Year old responsible for the Story? I have read FanFictions with better dialogues. Its just. The ****

    Again: excellent graphics, music and va, but I would not recommend anyone to buy this as the overall game was a very big downgrade from TLOU1

    Fica claro, principalmente depois do próprio diretor do game Neil Druckman admitir em uma palestra, que o jogo se propôs a empurrar uma agenda política progressista e completamente fora da realidade em um mundo pós apocalíptico com zumbis, zumbis esses que ficam em segundo plano nessa jornada de vingança.
    Vemos aqui presente o clássico clichê do 'ciclo de violência', mas a abordagem de Druckman é diferente, subverter expectativas e acontecimentos é o seu diferencial, já vimos esse tipo de roteiro em franquias como Star wars the last jedi e Game of thrones season 8, parece agradar bastante parte do público enquanto enfurece a maior base dos fãs.
    O gameplay é bem parecido com o que vimos no primeiro jogo com algumas melhorias e adições como a esquiva e o botão de pular, nada de muito inovador e em determinados pontos chega a ser repetitivo demais.
    Em conclusão, a naughty dog entregou um jogo belíssimo, com um mundo imersivo mas falhou no que the last of us tinha de melhor: sua história e personagens. Os personagens previamente estabelecidos tomam ações duvidosas e os personagens novos são rasos e desinteressantes. O jogo tem essa atmosfera pesada e depressiva, com breves momentos de leveza que não duram muito. O final é bem depressivo e deixa o jogador sem nenhum tipo de recompensa, se perguntando, valeu realmente a pena?
    A resposta é não.
    P.S.: Ao rever os trailers e teasers do jogo, fica claro como a naughty dog manipulou estes para passar a impressão que o jogo seria uma coisa que não é, chegando ao ponto de alterar vozes e personagens em determinadas cenas.    … Expand

    I loved the original Last of Us because of the story and connection I had with the characters. I despise the Last of Us 2 story and have no connection to the characters. Four stars because the game is beautiful, compliment to the developers on delivering. Too bad the story is just god awful with laughable plot holes.

It’s a slap to the characters Joel and Ellie and all to us fans for liking the 1st game like seriously... you couldn’t tell a somewhat believable revenge story.... it’s a revenge story without the revenge...imagine if kratos let’s zues go after killing dozens of gods or John wick lets go the dog killer after killing all his henchmen due to having a flashback lol... if that the case that flashback should have made Ellie more violent and help her finish the job...and then after realise it was for nothing and revenge was a total waste of time because now she has lost everything pursuing it... letting Abby live doesn’t end the cycle... what about tons of random people Ellie hunted and killed... wouldn’t their family members go after Ellie now so why letting Abby live ends the cycle?... Joel went from being a complete hardass and not trusting anyone in the first game to giving personal name and hideout locations to random strangers while being outnumbered lol... it’s a complete mess... the gameplay is linear apart from one section... no new interested infected... sometimes you even forget that it’s a zombie game,,,. The downtime between gameplay is astoundingly obnoxious. When theres actual gameplay its refreshing to be met with a fresher take on the originals combat and I enjoyed the lethality it represented. Ignore fake 10 review scores and masterpiece buzzwords, don't be a corporate sympathiser. The criticism leading up to the game is wholeheartedly justified. Reviewers that gave this game a perfect score have now handed in their credibility as reviewers and should no longer be taken seriously. This is false advertising and its now clear that they were paid off. Nobody that respects the original would rate this game perfect especially over the dozen reviewers that rated it perfect for a flash of their name on the posters especially when the story is so controversial, its impossible to rate them all the same. Metacritic are also losing credibility to support a platform for reviewing.    … Expand

Joel and Ellie legit don't have an interaction with one another throughout the game excluding the flash backs. And not even 2 hrs in Joel dies. I dont have a problem with charecters dying but the way they killed him was an absolute insult to the players. And the ending what the hell! your telling me you killed all these people to end up not killing the person responsible for Joel's death. And naughty dog is trying to make me feel sympathy for a charecter (abbey) in a 20 min cut scene and who literally killed one of the best things if not THE BEST thing about last of us.     +1. Graphics and sound is really good. Game play is very similar to the first game, with some improvements. Story is the games biggest problem. Its so bad that I wanted to stop playing the game. The ending is so bad it makes playing through the entire game feel unsatisfying and a waste of time.

    This franchise is all about the story. Without the story the game means nothing. This game does have great visuals and great gameplay, but the main focus needs to be the story. The story just isn’t good and it tries too hard to make you feel sorry for people that you immediately don’t want to feel sorry for. And the ending tries so hard to make you feel sad, without making any logical sense.

However I believe they dropped the ball here. This game looks and plays fantastic. Although I felt like the game got too stale and boring less than 10 hours in till the end of the game. The AI actually somehow got worse than the last of us part 1. Enemies grabbing you and the ai will wait to get the enemies off you. Sneak attack in front of The human players. And they won’t be alerted. games best moments were the flash back sequences. between Ellie and Joel. However about 2-3 hours in a very impactful event happen which makes you wish the game took a different approach. This character death would have been more impactful if the game latter half wasn’t so lacking in character development and with its new characters. The game makes you play as a new chapter named Abby to chase down fan favorites. I couldn’t help my self to not care for Abby. Due to the fact she’s after revenge of a death of a character from the first game. A character that wasn’t even a secondary character. More of an NPC that has less screen time than Sarah. Does this game deserve all the hate it gets. Yes. I understand and agree 100%. I’m giving the last of us part 2 a 4/10. Everything looks great. But the game is buggy/glitches. Annoying repetitive gameplay. Terrible story to those who loved the first part. Maybe it could have lost the playable Abby parts of the game to shorten the game length and it’s worst parts of the game. And added more with Joel and Ellie, the best parts of the game.     I'm giving it a 4 because I feel sad for the developers. Neil Druckman, however, should never ever make another game.

    The only improvements I see in this game are the graphics and gameplay, which honeslty is the 90% the same as the old one and uncharted. Im not nearly as bothered by the inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters, but more of the way they are forced on you. I think there are other games that do it better and this just feels like Neil trying to push his own political agenda into players. I mean, the "Left Behind" DLC handled this in a much, MUCH, better way, especially if you consider how of an important choice is to say that the main character is gay. Did people "review bomb" that one? No, because the way the handled it was superb.

    This game has a lot of flaws, and I think a lot of people are also upset with the so called "critics" who are nothing more than Sony and ND lap dogs, supporting and calling anything a "10/10" just to simpathyze with devs who LITERALLY put FALSE ADVERTISING on their trailers.

    It sucks that people cant give it an honest review its all either 10/10 from fanboys or 0's from haters.    … Expand

    Firstly, the story is too stretched out and insanely boring at sometimes. Turning into a walking simulator for hours upon end.
    And secondly, you are forced to play as one of the most hated characters I think I've ever seen in any game ever released.

    The ending, in my personal opinion, wasn't really that bad. By the time you reach the fight with Abby, the game has drained you as a player so much, and the characters have gone through so much, that NOT killing Abby feels more conclusive than actually killing her.
    And at the very end, when you can't play the guitar and you walk away, it feels like a sad ending done pretty well.

    But throughout the entirety of the middle of the game, the general gameplay and story is just so boring, stretched out, filled with loopholes and absolutely stupid character decisions that I had a hard time finishing the game. I often stopped for breaks just to chat to family or friends because the game was so morally and emotionally and mentally draining.

    Overall, there really isn't much to love or talk about in this game. It's just a sad story that pushed the sadness to the forefront and left no room for good writing.

    Insanely good graphics though. Gameplay was somewhat flat but pretty decent. Accessibility options were a huge plus. There are so many options to help out any type of gamer.

Needless to say TLOU2 has some amazing graphics and great atmosphere designs, and the devs who worked hard for this game should get their well-deserved praise, but this is not what I'm trying to talk about in this review. You see TLOU2 has some really serious issues when it comes to character development and representations in the game. Take Asian characters for example. We got Jesse, who's a mediocre Asian character at best, acted as nothing but a plot device that contributes the development of Ellie and Dina's relationship, and he was literally a sperm donor. You heard that right. He made Dina pregnant so she and Ellie could have a chance to start a new life together as a lesbian couple after his pathetic and anticlimactic death (which is worse than Glenn's death in TWD imo). How is this a good representation of Asian males in video games, seriously? At least most Japanese devs know they need to make their Asian characters kick-ass when there's nothing they can do to make the characters more likable. We also got Yara and Lev's mother, who acted exactly like an extreme traditional and stereotypical Asian parent--she was willing to give her 13-year-old trans daughter Lev to a local elder as a child bride, and abused Lev when he refused to comply, really? If they were all black characters, I would imagine there must be some outrage on social media already. I just don't get why does Neil Druckmann hate Asians so much that he decided to make them all weak and incompetent (even the trans character Lev needs to be protected by Abby, a strong white woman) in TLOU2. What's worse is that these characters can be easily fixed so they can be under a more positive light, it's not like they have super complex characteristics to begin with anyway. In conclusion I'm disappointed. As an Asian I don't really mind when Asian characters can only get the less important roles in any western video games, but please make them good and not just dry and unlikable punchbags like this.… Expand

    If you are like me, you played The Last of Us Part 1 way back during it's release on the PS3. The game had stunning graphics, great sound, good gameplay, but the things that made it one of the best games on the platform was the beauty of the level designs and above that the magnificent storyline involving two of main characters with their struggle to survive    Oh boy... Where to begin...

    If you are like me, you played The Last of Us Part 1 way back during it's release on the PS3. The game had stunning graphics, great sound, good gameplay, but the things that made it one of the best games on the platform was the beauty of the level designs and above that the magnificent storyline involving two of main characters with their struggle to survive and make sense of the world. That recipe landed it the game of the year back then on the PS3 and then again on the PS4 when it was released as a remastered version which I also bought. I had two TLOU1 copies total spanning two systems. That was just how good it was.

    Fast forward to today and to Part 2 of this iconic game. Let's start with what it got right from the recipe of the old game.

    GRAPHICS and Level Design: Like the first, Part 2 continues on stunning displays of the environment. No complaints there.
    SOUND: Again, it is on par with the first.
    GAMEPLAY: This is for the most part on par again with the first with a few additions to make exploring more realistic thus giving it a slight edge.

    Sadly, from here on out it is downhill. Way downhill...

    STORYLINE: I enjoyed the game for about 2 hours into it. Then IT happens. Death is understandable in a game with an apocalyptic setting. It can be sad but still illicit a positive experience to the player. Flashback to FF7 when Aerith meets the grim reaper with an 8 ft blade. It was traumatic yet it didn't leave a horribly bad aftertaste by the end of the game. In TLOU2 though, it felt unnecessarily rushed. Like someone couldn't wait to get rid of one of the characters. Then to make matters worse, you have to play as the character who ended such a beloved one from the 1st game. The theme of revenge is done relatively like any other game or movie before, and it doesn't really make the player feel much excitement to see what happens next. It starts becoming boring and predictable. At least until the end where they throw you another curve ball to ruin yet another character from the 1st game. You're left with a sense of what was the point of all of this? In the 1st game, you had a clear goal. The twists and turns to reach it all fit together nicely, until the end where they also throw you a curve ball to the story. But unlike the 1st where there was a purpose to the actions that led to the end, in Part 2 the player is left with a strong feeling to scream "WTF was the point of all this!?". The story is severely flawed. The ending leaves you with nothing, and worse it tarnishes the legacy and choices made by the end of the 1st game.

    All in all, The Last of Us 2 is only worth playing if you're into good graphics and gameplay mechanics. Those who want a kickass story with memorable characters will be better served not playing story mode at all. Hopefully they will release a Multiplayer for the game, because that will be the only thing worth playing in this sorry excuse for a sequel to such an iconic game of years ago. Since this game relies heavily on the storyline aspect due to the lack of a multiplayer option, I cannot give it a good score. The story isn't any good. That alone is more than enough to overshadow any of the positives the game has.    … Expand

    Terrible game. The story and writing is terrible. relationships and characters are shoehorned in and are very awkward. Do not buy at full price. Wait until it is $10 or less.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
