    This game is good. Very very **** good. Most people seem to think joel would and should have gotten away from killing an entire hospital full of people. He's not Nathan drake, this is a drama, not an action game. Gameplay graphics and story are all the best I have seen in this generation of console.     Played the game and found it to be void of any real story. You would think after the long wait for the sequel the developers would put a bit more effort into a game worthy of our money. I guess we are just cash cows in their eyes.

    This game is such a great piece of art and storytelling. Living in a post apocolyptic world relationships can make you or break you. Death has its consequences and this story encompasses all of that and more.

    The graphics show the true power of next gen consoles. Never seen such a beautiful game.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having completed the game (29 hours and 40 minutes), I can say that this game has the potential to be one of the greatest of all time. It is a very HARD story, but it is a very powerful and moving story.

    People who hate this game hate it because:
    A) They think it carries some political Agenda (It does not)
    B) They are angry that Joel got killed thinking that either he didn't deserve it (if you play the game, you understand why Abby killed him...and you would do it to) or that his death was "wasted," I disagree, Joel was not a nice man, he had more than enough red on his ledger over his life and he had to know there were probably at least a dozen people who had the motivation to kill him, but his death, as brutal as it was, was the catalyst for this game.
    C) They didn't get the "revenge" they wanted....and thereby missed the whole point of the game. The Revenge cycle destroys everyone who participates, willingly or unwillingly. They both lost nearly everyone that they cared for, but in the end, Ellie salvages her humanity.

    This game makes you see and experience the humanity on both sides. You experience the humanity and inhumanity of each. No one is innocent in this story and there is no happy ending, at least not in the traditional sense.

    But in the ending cut scenes we see that while Ellie has lost everything, she still has the option to start again and grow. She is not handcuffed to the past. It was a horribly expensive lesson, but it was a lesson she learned and is now able to grow from.

    Yes, it is not a feel good story and it is hard to play at times and it is emotionally gut wrenching at times, but I believe that this sets up the franchise for a fantastic Part III. I believe that TLOU2 will be just like what the Empire Strikes Back is to the original Star Wars Trilogy. A very dark middle that sets up a glorious ending for the saga. And all these "haters" are going to have to eat their words.    … Expand

With Ellie being more agile, exploration is expanded. The Non-Linear exploration gives us more freedom to explore the massive world before us. Graphics: Extremely detailed, the team really put alot of effort to make it highly believable and breathtaking. Along with maintaining the sense of an abandoned and harsh world. The brutalility depicted is detailed to a point that you may feel a little queasy from time to time.

    Overall: The Last of Us Part 2 is a bittersweet and emotional triumph, where it throws you into a darker, more violent bloodbath than its previous title. It is also a game that will make you question the character's motives and morality at the end of My Score: 92/100    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fantastic game! You NEED to play both as Abby and Ellie to fully understand the main message of the game; Cycle Of Revenge. When Joel kills Abby’s father and then she kills Joel then it forces Ellie to go after Abby. This cycle would go on forever if Ellie killed Abby. Ellie thought about Joel and realized that she needed to stop this cycle. She lets Abby live, which would make no sense if we only saw the game from the point of view of Ellie. This only makes sense because we see the consequences of killing in both Abby’s story and Ellie’s. I loved all the guitar parts literally my favourite parts of the entire game and the gameplay is fantastic. Story may not be what you want, but instead what it needs to be. Sorry not sorry... overall good game but the way they killed Joel just makes me super sad and I really did hate playing as Abby but I understand that it was necessary.     Excelente en casi todos sus apartados, extraño la música del 1 y algunas zonas con enemigos se hacen un poco densas.
    Me encanta lo que hizo Naughty Dog en cambiar la típica historia del héroe, acá no hay buenos ni malos, solo sobrevivientes. Me entristece ver muchos 1, se nota que el juego molesta y genera envidia, porque aun que no te guste la historia, este juego no es de 1.     It feels like the main goal of the game is to undo everything that happens in TLOU 1. They completely butchered Ellie and Joel. All of that for nothing....

    Joel death is meaningless. It is just here so the main story can start, and this is lame. An apocalypse veteran who is trusting a group of unknown people ? Is it really the same guy who was able to cross all the country to bring Ellie to the fireflies ?
    But you know what? Even after that, i said to myself, i'll bite. His death can't be for nothing. We can still get something good out of it. A good story, a good ending.

    I have never been so wrong. The part with Ellie was correct. She is my favorite character so i have this going for me. But then, i have to play Abby ??? A character almost everyone hated after 2hours in game, and for 10 hours ??? And on top of that, the game forces me to BEAT ELLIE UP ????? No no no. This is where i draw the line. This is just a total disrespect to the fans. I am forced to play a character i hate and hurt the character i love.

    All of that for a revenge that doesn't even happen. Yes, ND even rob us from this satisfaction.

    I get the point that playing Abby's story was supposed to make us sorry for her. It just doesn't work...

    In the end, Joel is dead , Ellie is alone, and on the other hand Abby gets her revenge and her good ending. Imagine the feelings going through this story after coming out of TLOU1.

    I still want to salute the game visuals, the sound and the actors who are really flawless. But thats unfortunately not enough to make up for this poor story.    … Expand

It can be sad but still illicit a positive experience to the player. Flashback to FF7 when Aerith meets the grim reaper with an 8 ft blade. It was traumatic yet it didn't leave a horribly bad aftertaste by the end of the game. In TLOU2 though, it felt unnecessarily rushed. Like someone couldn't wait to get rid of one of the characters. Then to make matters worse, you have to play as the character who ended such a beloved one from the 1st game. The theme of revenge is done relatively like any other game or movie before, and it doesn't really make the player feel much excitement to see what happens next. It starts becoming boring and predictable. At least until the end where they throw you another curve ball to ruin yet another character from the 1st game. You're left with a sense of what was the point of all of this? In the 1st game, you had a clear goal. The twists and turns to reach it all fit together nicely, until the end where they also throw you a curve ball to the story. But unlike the 1st where there was a purpose to the actions that led to the end, in Part 2 the player is left with a strong feeling to scream "WTF was the point of all this!?". The story is severely flawed. The ending leaves you with nothing, and worse it tarnishes the legacy and choices made by the end of the 1st game.… Expand

They wanted players to have a view of both Ellie’s and Abby’s story. It was great. But playing as what the players view as the “villain” for more than 5 hours is what made the game look like it was telling Abby’s side of the story rather than Ellie’s story. I think they should’ve created more events for the main protagonists (Joel and Ellie). Overall the gameplay, graphics and music are as impressive as the first game.… Expand

The entire "fun" of the game is in killing enemies, the story of the game reminds you how bad it is to kill. There is no stealth option.     I would guess that whoever wrote it never played the (very good) first game. I would still recommend playing the first one if you haven't. Joel acts nothing like himself in the game, Ellie barely more. The protagonist of the first game killed while acting wildly out of character? Check. Being forced to play half the game as an entirely new character that has absolutely zero likable qualities? Check. Ugh.

    Then at the end when you're finally about to kill that new character mentioned above a flashback to Joel saves her? How about, **** her, she killed Ellie's dad kill her. Not to mention bit off her fingers only seconds before. So infuriating. I would have given it another point or two if Ellie had finished her off in the end, it would still be a gross and annoying story but at least it would end on an up note.

    Now I know, the thing to do is say "Anyone who doesn't like the game must hate women." Really? Ellie doesn't count? How stupid is that logic.    … Expand

    I have finally finished my first playthrough of The Last of Us Part 2 and I will do my bit to restore the good name of this title.
    Let's get the ugly little details out of the way first. Yes, there are some lengthy bits in that story and yes this is partly due to the massiv environments to explore, which can take you out of it a bit. But... It sooooo pays of in the end. Yes, there are some lengthy bits in that story and yes this is partly due to the massiv environments to explore, which can take you out of it a bit. But... It sooooo pays of in the end. This game is one of the only ones getting real emotions out of me and these lengthy periods contributed to that as well, as the dialog between the characters while exploring is so rich and believable. And although the story sure is devisive it all is in line with what Naughty Dog was setting out to do and it worked time and time again. All that is supported by a superb gameplay and smart as hell AI.

    So given what I've just written why am I giving this an 8/10? Because every other part of this game is absolutely incredible.
    Graphics, animation, movement, sound design, music, lighting, acting, level design and user interface have all been heavily improved since the first game.
    I often found myself just stopping to enjoy the level around me, instead of making my way through it.
    I found the minuet to minuet game-play a joy and was never burdened by a clunky interface.
    This game is an average story, with some great AND badly written sections, all wrapped up in one of the best designed and realised game worlds I've ever played.    … Expand

Try to make me feel sympathetic to Abby by forcing me to play as her for nearly half the game just does not work. The first game didn't judge or punish Joel for the morally ambiguous choice he made. It let us as the players make that judgment. This game spits in our face right off the bat and tells us Joel was wrong and deserved it. Then to add fuel to the fire it basically tells us that we need to like Abby, when she's not at all likable. It's truly unfortunate ND went this route with the story and completely abandoned what made the 1st so amazing.

    The gameplay is still fun and the setting is stunning. Sadly those are not the redeeming qualities that would give this a higher rating. Definitely worth a playthrough if you enjoyed the 1st game, but a sad sequel nevertheless.    … Expand

This game took glee in smashing one of these pillars in excessive fashion leading to a crumbled house, a crumbled game, a crumbled franchise. This was a game intentionally design to go on a different direction than what was expected by fans: a good, fun, interesting game that would continue our heroes story in an amazingly written fashion.     The second part.. is just all over the place.. only for one brief time i just wanted to know why Abby killed Joel.. once that was revealed... The emotional rollercoaster started in the game.
    I don't why this game feels like really bad movie.. or the walking dead series at the later seasons.. it is too long and too damn predictable. The story does not makes any sense.. as a player i don't feel connected to any character infact to Ellie as well. Do i feel bad about Ellie or Abby .. i don't wanna play as Abby.. i dont know her.. she killed Joel thats all I know .. But not sure what type of drugs these A guys were on.. you got a mix bag of characters who all suffer from some kind of identity crisis. my doggo here don't even like it. he farts every time he sees that dang o Abbowabby. Remember joel saying "you really think id let you do this on your own?" And that line getting everyone hyped for the game? This game gets a lot of hate but I truly found this to be a great sequel to arguably the greatest game of all time. Is it The Last of Us part 1? No. But holding it to that standard sets a bar that is unfair to the game and all who play it. This game was visually stunning and the amount of details that went into it deserve the highest praise. They also significantly improved the combat mechanics and allows the game to feel fresh and new. Overall if you're debating on whether or not you want to buy this game I say you absolutely should. SPOILERS BELOW

    I see a lot of people getting upset about how and when Joel died. Was Joel a hardened survivalist? Yes. However him and Tommy made a split second decision to save Abby from that horde. I hear people saying "Joel would never trust people that easily" but in the first game he did that. Remember Henry and Sam? Unfortunately this time the people he trusted backfired. As for him dying so early on I get the game leading up made it seem as if he was a significant part I'll give you that. But this game wasn't/isn't about Joel. This is Ellie's game and about her need for revenge opposite from Abby's. You we're supposed to feel upset about Joel. His death was supposed to try and get you to feel as if you were Ellie and I think that was accomplished.    … Expand

    One of the best games to EVER grace the world. The story line and the writing are extremely unique, delicate yet harsh, edgy and creative. Everything about this game has raised the bar so so high for all games in General. I can NOT wait for part 3 lol

    Well... This game is a masterpiece!!! I played the first one 7x times, and believe, I cry every time I play that game. And now, it wasn't different with part 2... Strong story, strong gameplay, strong characters, strong decisions. 10/10 Love it!!! It has a soul... Must play!!!

But people just keep focusing on their hatred about how the game doesn't go in the direction they expect to see, and refuse to look at the other side of the coin through Abby's eyes. I love how they let you play as Abby at the peak moment. Showing how being prisoner changed Abby completely and shredded her to pieces. It showed how humans would react not how fictional characters would. People who are giving bad reviews only wanted a game where u kill and kill, which is not the message Naughty Dog wanted to convey.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last Of US 2 is the most conflicting game I've ever played. At times I hated it and at times I loved it. I was completely split down the middle. The first game introduced me to two of the most deep and believable characters in any game I've ever played. I couldn't wait to be reintroduced to them again and I was but not in the way I expected. During my first playthrough I was angry, confused and heartbroken. I questioned everything about Joel's death and why it was done so fast and so brutally. I almost didn't want to continue after that moment but my care for Ellie kept me going. Playing as Ellie again was refreshing and seeing how much she has developed and grown was interesting. When the narrative switched back to Abby i was upset. I was so angry at this character, I wanted her to feel the pain I felt and i knew Ellie felt. I'll be honest playing as Abby didn't change my mind, I just wanted to end and see where Ellie ended up, but when the game finally concluded I realized something. I realized what the games message was, at least what it was to me. Love is blinding. Love makes us do the best and worst of things. My love for Joel and Ellie prevented me from seeing they were just people and just as damaged as Abby. In the world of The Last Of Us everyone has had to cross a moral line to survive and Joel and Ellie are no exception but the love I have for these characters made me biased. Naughty Dog masterfully challenged the players own moral compass in this game by showing how flawed even the main characters are. I've never went so deep in thought over a video game and this is why i appreciate it so much. This game has the most bright of moments and the most dark of moments and ends on a note of mystery. Obviously the visuals are stunning, acting is second to none and I wouldn't expect anything less from a Naughty Dog game. I recommend playing the game twice because the first playthrough so emotionally heavy and can effect your perception on all the themes this game is trying to present. I'll end by saying that I'm still torn by the events of The Last Of Us Part 2 but at the same time I'm appreciative of the authentic emotional and realistic connection I have to Joel and Ellie. I really hope there is a third game because I want to Ellie's story continue.… Expand

    I absolutely give it a 10/10! I played the game in 4 days and now I’m on new game+ for the platinum trophy.

The graphics are absolutely gorgeous, gameplay extremely fun and probably the best part of this game. The game play builds upon the predecessor and adds more fun elements and enemies like stalkers/rat-king etc, all enhancing the quality of the game. As far as the story goes, i can understand why some people are angry but this game was always going to have a sad ending. I think the cut-scenes explain brilliantly the choices Ellie and Abby make with the links to their pasts and overall the game does an excellent job in portraying the consequences of revenge and how to move forward from it.… Expand

    Game play is good but story sucks. Many loop holes in the story telling.

    And the last of us part I is good because of its fantastic and clean story, part II definitely failed it.

    When I finished it, I felt like I finished game of throne last season.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
