This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First lets address some of the stupid criticisms:
This game is not some LGBTQ+ propaganda. Yes Ellie is gay, and her love interest is a significant character, but her being gay has no importance to the story. The game would not be any different if she was straight and Dina was a guy. Ellie is the main character on an incredible adventure, that just happens to be gay. There's not a leftist agenda being pushed on Ellie's sexuality, just a character trait. Second, Abby's arms are huge. If you had lost your dad and spent the next four years tracking his murder down to seek revenge, my guess is you'd be hitting the gym hard. Abby is a brute character and provides a very fun gameplay difference from what we're used to.

This game is DARK, and does not have a happy ending. I was very mad at Joel's death, but I knew it had to happen. The point of this game was to show that all actions have consequences, and there are two sides to every story. It's easy for us to think that Joel made the right choice in part 1 saving Ellie, because we played the whole game as Joel. But he killed a lot of people, including Abby's father. It's great that we're mad at Abby in the beginning, because we buy into Ellie's revenge story. We cheer her on at every step and don't care about the lives she takes because to us, they're the bad guys that killed joel.
Then the tables turn, we play as the murder. It's weird, I didn't like it. I found as many ways as possible to kill abby just hoping I could change joel's faith. Then we learn about her father, and start playing as her perspective. You start to care about her and her friends and want to explain it all to Ellie. All the sudden we feel bad about Owen and Mel, we want to do it all differently. This game makes you feel all sorts of crazy emotions. We hate Abby for killing joel, hate it. But understand the reason, because we played the same with Ellie. Both sides are avenging a father figure, and both sides are blinded by this.

I loved it. It's as bittersweet as only a "The last of us" game can be. The story plays with your feelings and morals as few games can. Not the perfect game, but storywise I think it's the best of the year.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

game is sub par at best gots good graphic minimal replay value and story is agenda driven and points out what should not be in games the story was disappointing and the plot points were the worst in a game and the mechanic's was not polished and smooth i give this game a 4/10 at best for it's lack of being a sequel to it's predecessor.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Game really doesn’t deserve all the hate. The so-called “agenda” being pushed, I don’t see at all. And I’d absolutely hate it if the game did this. But I just don’t see any indication of that. Game is great. However, at the midway point about 10-11 hours in, it started to lose me. There’s a cliffhanger and then you’re playing Abby’s side of the story for the next 8-10 hours which slowly began to kill it for me. 2 hours was okay, but then the story began to revolve around new characters you had to help for some reason, which annoyed me as at that point I just wanted the game to reach it’s end. I’d give the game 8/10, as it was still great, but for me around 8-10 hours to long which drags score down. Expand

It's really sad, in this day and age where political correctness is the no. 1 priority in pretty much everything, we got to the point where it affected games!?

We all know why the game is how it is, don't lie to yourself.

The beautiful graphics, the outstanding physics, all ruined by a team of writers that just cared about being politically correct.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to vent and express my frustration with disappointment, the story line is weak and is clearly pushing a narrative down your throat, the story does not flow well at all throughout the whole experience. We are forced to play a character during the last half of the game that I really didnt care about playing. And then I was left empty and unsatisfied at the end of the game, my whole journey was basically pointless and a waste of time. This is a problem and pattern with game developers, you start a great game and turn into crap and ruin it with sequels they think we want instead of making game sequels we want. Sorry Naughty Dog I dont think the TLOU franchise is salvageable anymore and you deserve a boycott. These game reviewer critics that are giving this game perfect scores are lying and they dont want to be blacklisted. Graphics are amazing the best I've ever seen gameplay is really good also, technically this game is extremely good the attention to detail is phenomenal. The story is really bad , it's basically a revenge story so pretty unoriginal, basically Abbey wants revenge for the death of her father bu Joel, the way they write this is stupid Abbey tried to enter the town where Joel live but ends up being attacked by the infected. Just before they gather Joel and tommy miraculously save her but unfortunately can't get back to town as the weather is bad so low and behold Abbey brings them back to her house where all her pals are and they kill him , then Ellie sees this and wants revenge so kills all Abbey's friends, then abbey wants revenge on Ellie finds her but does not kill her, ellie then wants revenge on Abbey again, I could break down all the plot holes and stuff but there is no point Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us was one of the best games from the last generation. I avoided all spoilers for the sequel and went in trusting the team at naughty dog to deliver an outstanding experience once more with this new entry. I could not believe how badly the team approached this project, given the amount of time it was in production. Here are the main issues I have with this game. 1. Joel’s death early in the game was a huge shock and the set up was completely out of character for both him and Tommy. 2. The writing and dialogue between characters is of a much lower standard compared to the first game. 3. The new character Abby who you’re forced to play as, after killing Joel is a real low point. They try and build up a relationship with the player to show her side of the story and reasons for killing Joel. This feels forced and goes on way to long. 4. This redemption arc goes out the window when she starts killing all the wolves members who she knew and was a part of for years. 5. Tommy gets shot in the head and some how pops up at the end of the game. 6. The pacing of the game at the end feels like it will never end, it’s dragged out way too long, 7. The way that Tommy spoke to Ellie at the end of the game was so out of character it was laughable. I’m giving this game a 5 out of 10 because of the graphics, which are outstanding. The reason the majority of people loved the first game was because of the story and relationships between characters. I really wanted to like this game. I have never written a review before and just thought I would try and give an honest opinion on why I think naughty dog missed the mark with this game. Expand

The game focuses more on how to look good politically, with a disorganised story. I personally enjoyed the flashbacks with Joel, more than i did the rest of the game. The characters in game do not talk that much as theirs a clear lack of in game chemistry and character development. The Game doesn't feel like a part 2 of a legendary game. Im not even upset about Joels death, its the fact that it happened in the beginning of the game, and i dont mind the ending, its the constant drag of events and playing as a character(Abby) im told not too like in the beginning of the game. Visually the game is gorgeous, I loved the gameplay from the first game and this one is very similar. I don't agree with some that it needs to evolve so much when you have dozens of first person shooters that use the same engines and don't feel very different to each other, there was only one Last of Us. If you enjoyed the gameplay mechanics from the first one there's no reason you wont enjoy this one too, I personally love the gameplay mechanics.
Unfortunately its impossible to play it and avoid the story, and if you are also a big fan of the first one you will quite likely be hugely disappointed by the direction they take in the second one. It feels very jolting which although I'm sure was their intention, it just takes too much away from the first one and doesn't build on it in a meaningful way. Their treatment of the characters we grew to love in my opinion is just horrible. The inclusion of representation (gender identity politics) feels forced and transparent which comes across both lecturey and unnecessary in a post apocolyptic world whereas games like Dragonage Inquisition were able to include it without having that effect. It also felt a bit immersion breaking to play as a female character that was obviously on steroids with hulking arms and legs - where does she get access to that much quality and quantity of food along with steroids in a post apocolyptic world where people are just trying to survive (the steroid physique is not an exaggeration). To be clear I have no issue playing as female characters and where choice is given I usually do just that, I chose to play as Kassandra on AC Odyssey.

As far as Last of Us gameplay goes again I feel that has remained in tact and improved, visually, functionally and shouldn't disappoint anyone familiar with and fond of the first, I would definitely buy a separate multiplayer if that's the route they choose to take.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here's a much needed support/rant review/comment.
Support for Naughty Dog, LLC and rant for the so called fans who are whining about this AMAZING PIECE OF ART.

I'll start by reminding everyone the old proverb that goes "Live by the sword, die by the sword". I really hope that most of the whiners have heard that proverb before, and if they haven't then that would explain the apalling lack of much needed reality checks.

The reaction this game is causing in our society is a clear indicator of the sad existence of "eggshell skull heads" who wrongly believe that just because their psyches are weaker than most; then the entire world around them must adapt to their fragile needs and wants.

A plain and simple "WTF?" Is what better describes bad reviews based on wanting to keep X character alive, or the fact that you have to kill "poor defenseless puppies" (yes that was sarcasm, that's a thing you know?) while the whole narrative of the game takes place in a post apocalyptic SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST type of crazy world, the type we all instinctively know would be super scary to live in because of those and many other uglier posibilities.

Coming back to the proverb I mentioned: What else do you expect to have happened to Joel? The dude though a hardcore badass we could only aspire to be... had it coming for years now. Remember how he took any posibility for a cure away from humanity's grasp? I didn't hear anyone complaning then about how unjust, not caring about fellow humans and totally selfish move that was...

Why did no one complaint then? Two things:

1- Paraphrasing the philosophy behind Freud's "id" – We cannot 100% guarantee that we would have done any better in his shoes
(even Tommy admitted to that) since we don't really know what would it take to turn us into a savage killer blinded by . Which is exactly what happened to Abby too.

2- Back then we were not being bombarded with social justice crap that even thou nice on the surface, they wouldn't mean $h1+ and I yes I meant to say poop, in the world of #TheLastOfUs.
Just think about it, no global warming would be taking place, no animal abuse for sure (plenty of flesh eating puppies runing loose), clearly most people accept LGBTQ communities in this world.
Ain't that enough for yall snowflakes out there?

Naughty Dog, LLC made an incredible BOLD and BRAVE move with this story. Something only people who trully know how the real world behaves would do. And to me and some great critics I've seen, such choices have made this game a #masterpiece yet again. Only constructive feedback I would give them is: next time do a better job with bugs that's it.

PS: If you felt offended by anything I just said then I leave you one last "proverb":
    – "You better check yourself before you wreck yourself..." "... cause the world ain't all sunshine and rainbows"

What I think they are trying to go for in this game is a lesson on perspective when you play as Abby you get to see her as a human and why she did it now whether u pity her or still hate her is up to you, personally I still hated her. I think the story in this game is a new kind of story that is interesting. Neil took a lot of risks with this game and most of it worked out. For the people who think that there is forced identity politics and forced LGBT ideas, there's not, Ellie has been known that she was lesbian since the DLC from the first game and honestly the fact that there are some LGBT aspects in this game makes it a little more interesting. Now I'm not some big LGBT supporter that thinks stuff like this should be shoved down peoples throats at all i dont think that's right but I think that the LGBT aspects in the game fit and really what does it matter, it makes some good story points too.

This game is definitely one of the more realistic games, this had me on my feet for almost the entire game because I couldn't predict what would happen i loved the game play it felt fluid and the way you could move your character was awesome.

Did it match up to the first game? Story wise? No, definitely not the first game is a masterpiece and I think pretty much everyone would agree. But I still think that this game is one of a kind and definitely worth playing.

The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of this writing, to realise that they're not just deep- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Abby's character truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the mystery in Abby's existential catchphrase "Guess," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Neil Druckmann's genius writing itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Abby sex scene tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

It is so much easier to relate to the feelings love, trust and relationships when you are a little older and more mature. Also we understand the reference from the 1990.

The game went in a direction that not many stories would go towards, not everything is fairytale. Although I despised Abby for killing Joel as I really wanted to play as Joel, this game showed brilliantly that the so called "bad guys" of each story are not always never justified even if it is less artistic than the way the movie Joker was portrayed.
The stunning environment and graphics should mean that the game deserves atleast a 4 even if the story is pretty mediocre, rating it a 0 is just plain insulting (hence why I gave this game a 10).

In summary: not every story should be overcome the villain because they are just plain wrong, when in reality you are fighting your own demons even when that villain shows compassion (which is a rare feat).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After 7 years of waiting, and watching NO leaks because you wanted to enjoy the game at your own pace and at your own enjoyment.

So you get up in the morning, you’re brimming with excitement because the game you waited so long for is finally here. You pick up your pre order, you start the game and you’re discovering new characters and that’s fine because it’s TLOU universe. You start playing Joel and nostalgia fills your heart and you save a girl named Abby from some infected with your brother Tommy and you follow her to her safehouse and there, Abby shoots you in the leg and tortures you and bashes your head with a golf club. You die. 2 hours into the game.

And now you play as Ellie and they make you kill a dog, you are given no choice in this, and the same dog is playing with Abby. Manipulative much?

You play as Abby for a good 40% of the game, even if you are still angry at the character, you are forced to play her. You understand her journey, but you (my choice) still resent her for what she did to Joel. You are back as Ellie and you go on your journey of revenge and you set off killing people who are affiliated with Abby. In the end, you are made to fight Ellie as Abby and you are meant to hurt her, the beloved character you have grown so much to love.

The final moments of the game is Ellie letting Abby live, and “realising” that revenge is bad and they we should break the circle. Well how about the other people Ellie killed along the way? There is no lesson in this game. There was no need for this game to “teach us” something. The game was depression.

The Graphics are Realy Beautiful this is why i gave 1 Point but the Story.... lets begin with the Start.
First of, killing a Friend or Mentor, Family member at the start of the Game is one of the laziest and most uncreative ways to start a Story that could have gone in so many Directions that the First game made open at the end but ok, it worked. I hated that Character so much that it kept me going. It had good moments and the "flashback" parts where realy good and made me Love the Joel&Ellie relationship even more wich also resulted in hating Abby even more. Killing her Friends was not satisfying enough but was a good start. So far so good, but then it started to get ridiculous.
What the HELL did you think you where doing Naughty Dog ?!?
You forced us to Play as Abby ? The one Character we wanted to kill on the most Brutal and sadistic way that would be possible without the game getting Banned!?! You wanted to make us have feelings about her and her Friends ? You wanted to make us feel sorry for her and her dumb father ? You wanted to Justify her actions and thought that we would think that she had the right to kill Joel ? Yeah, guess what ? IT DID NOT WORK! All that it did was wanting her even more dead. I gave and give a damn **** about her feelings her friends and her damn father all i want is too f***ing kill her! There was absolutely not even a little bit of room for empathy or feelings towards this f***ing piece of sh** called Abby. Then the second part did end and you made us fight against Ellie... i realy don`t know what you did think to yourself while your where writing and develop the second part of the game... and then you let it end there with everyone going there ways and the second part ends. At that time i realy thought this would be it, this is how it ends. But no, you made us Hope that we would get what we where all waiting for throughout the entire Game. Once more we are going out to seek Abby and leave everything behind us to finally Kill that piece of sh**. And than what ? Right, wen don`t get it. The game ends and Abby is still alive... Did you realy thought that what was happening to Abby at the end of the game would make us Happy enough ? That we think that she suffered enough ? Pathetic.... All that we wanted was to f***ing Kill her, too slaughter her, too make die a slow and Painful way but you, Naughty Dog, did not give us that satisfaction, you did not give us Justice. You did not Deliver! Another Franchise is Ruined, another once so good Developer is gone. All that you did with this game, Naughty Dog, is that you will go Down like all the other developers that did not Deliver and let their Fans down. Naughty Dog you are just a huge disappointment....

Bad characters, terrible character development, inconsistent story. Sending someone from Sony to tell a reviewer to change his review? Shameful

Another reason not to buy the PlayStation 5. The worst game I've ever played. Stop mixing game and politics. Fire Neil Druckmann

I've never been so disappointed in a game in my whole life. As a huge fan it hurts me to know that I gave naughty dog money for this. I avoided all leaks, bought the special edition of this, got the tlou edition ps4 years back, beat the original close to 10 times (mostly on grounded difficulty) and played thousands of matches of the multiplayer across the ps3 and ps4 versions. I avoided all leaks, bought the special edition of this, got the tlou edition ps4 years back, beat the original close to 10 times (mostly on grounded difficulty) and played thousands of matches of the multiplayer across the ps3 and ps4 versions. They betrayed the people like me who helped pay for this sequel and waited 7 years. For what? All so that Anita Sarkeesian can beat gamers to death with a golf club, spit on us, steal the spotlight, punch us in the face, break our arm, bite our gaming fingers off and just walk off as the main character? I beat it twice, so this is not a BS review. The game is an actual 5-6 based on gameplay and graphics/sound. It's a fun game and the voice acting is great, but I have to give it a 0 for story and in general, because of all the fake 10s and Neil Druckmann lying to us. You don't have to be some right wing trump voter to hate this game. You just have to be somebody who wanted a good story. With all the forced virtue signaling, the game sacrifices the story in favor of sending some message. Trust a hardcore fan and save your money. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
