This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having played through the game twice now, I can say that the Last of US 2 is a very strange experience and one that has clearly divided players and fans alike. I make this distinction between the two as I feel the game provides a difference experience for both and as a result will define your overall view of the game. Essentially I feel that Part 2 was not written as a game but as movie. It employs shock tactics, gratuitous violence against loved characters and emotive scenes to create an experience on a level not scene before in gaming , but more akin to TV shows such as Game of Thrones and the Walking dead. I say a movie as in-between the numerous cutscenes you pretty much do the same thing, explore each area clearing enemies via stealth or shoot outs in an identical manner to the first, the gameplay in many respects has not evolved at all from the first albeit a brief car and horse chase and use of a boat for parts of the game (however the game is visually stunning). The gameplay seems like filler and essentially something to do whilst you are watching a film. In my personal view it is this story that is this issue for many. The main problem is that part 1 and it’s DLC was so successful as it focused on the relationships between well developed characters (Ellie and Joel and Ellie and Riley) to great effect and created a story that fans became heavily invested in. This level of success is simply not achieved in part 2.The Last of Part 2 seems to destroy these characters for shock value and twists for the sake of a lesson about revenge and violence which has in all honesty been done many times before, especially if you have watched the aforementioned TV shows.
Many fans were expecting and led to believe that there would be a continuation of the previous story they loved so much but were in fact given the opposite and understandably feel aggrieved. Players who aren’t so invested in the characters, new to the series or who did not resonate with the Characters actions or relationship in the previous game may however have an entirely different take and really enjoy the game.
The second issue is the antagonist come protagonist Abby. Again many fans do not simply like this character. Her first act is to kill Joel in brutal fashion and become the catalyst for Ellie’s revenge and the first section of the game . The player is then made to play as Abby in the second half whilst we attempt to understand her motives and back story which lead to her actions. It is here for many that the writers fail to convey enough sympathy to fans for the character to mean anything, apart from someone they still want to exact revenge on (which does not happen). Changing an antagonist to a protagonist is a difficult feat and one that may have needed an entire game on its own to do. The ending itself may leave many feeling unsatisfied and it is continuing this story (if ND decide to do this at all) that will be challenging itself as many feel the heart has been taken out of the series.

As I see it the success of part one was in its 2 main ingredients Elle and Joel. These special ingredients have been used up in part 2 to create an experience not seen before in gaming, but now that’s it. Without them the series now feels like just another generic apocalypse scenario going forward. At the end Ellie is left alone and maimed and appears to have no further use other than to track or be tracked down by the fireflies (Probably Abby and Lev) and sacrifice herself for a chance or a cure, which to many diminishes the whole point of the first game.
There is no doubt that this title has caused huge debate not seen before on a game and if that was ND’s aim then they have succeeded. However I can’t help but feel saddened that such great characters which fans could have enjoyed further adventures with (as this is meant to be a game after all ) will never happen. I don’t feel that this game deserves such low or high scores (ignoring all the hateful comments) and feel that they detract away from the things that players and fans love/hate about the game. My overall view is that it is a venture worth experiencing but one that may not be to everyone’s liking and I personally wish that the Joel/Ellie adventure had not concluded in such a way. The flashbacks were my favourite part and the ending left me unsatisfied and craving more of the magic that we had in part 1. It is a game at the end of the day which is meant to be fun and I simply didn’t have that feeling come it’s conclusion. However my own experiences in life and the job I do mean that I look to games as a form of escapism and fun. Others may enjoy the “bleak real to life apocalypse story” hence why we are seeing such stark reviews.

I would say this game is definitely worth trying out. Don’t watch let’s play gamers online, you should do it yourself.

But, the emotions i had after the game is finished, and after some plot details I feel embarrassed, lost. I’m not sure if that what you should get after you complete the triple A game story.

Half of the game i had no will to play, as i had no empathy to the circumstances. I just played wanting to finish the game as fast as i can.

My suggestion is to rent the game from stores/friends, and complete it. Of course if you do not catch the spoilers online.

I was a huge fan of the 1st game and think this is just as good in another way. I went into Part 2 absolutely appalled that I'd have to play as Abbey after seeing her torture and kill Joel. I couldn't imagine ever empathizing with her, but her flashbacks and the little interactions she has with all her friends (playing fetch with Alice hurt knowing I had to kill that puppy as Ellie) really humanized her for me.

By getting to play as both Ellie and Abbey, the game offers opposing perspectives that really capture the gravity of the choices each of those two main characters makes and the consequences that follow from those choices. Basically, I loved this game and highly recommend it.

If you try to keep an open mind and an empathetic approach, you have a very high chance of loving this game. Perfect visuals and atmosphere, a detailed world that feels so alive and full of history, improved gameplay and combat mechanics that will let you try many different approaches with different resources. The story is told so nicely that you are faced by a roller coaster ride of emotions: grief, happiness, anger, remorse, forgiveness, hope... A simple revenge plot screened by paper-thin characters who undergo very little development throughout the absolute mockery of a story. Beloved and established characters present from the first entry are immediately made to act in ways contrary to their initial personality to their detriment with zero explanation as to why this had occurred. The attempt to create depth and resonance with the player in regards to introducing new characters is cringe worthy at best.

Ultimately, this game will be remembered for the story it was attempting to deliver. On that facet alone, do not purchase this game and treat the first game as a stand alone masterpiece.

Back in 2016 when the first trailer dropped me and a buddy predicted that this game would show us the consequences of Joel taking down the fireflies - and that's what we got here. The gameplay is similar to the original, the score is phenomenal, the characters go through hell and back. They made some bold writing choices, and sadly a lot of people weren't on board with it, seemingly due to leaks mostly. The leaks are a bit off, they don't fully explain the experience of this game. And to the people just watching "Lets Plays" that doesn't really give you the proper experience either. To me this is one of the best games I've played, with the only detractor being some minor pacing issues. Otherwise its an easy 10 for me, waited 7 long years for this and was not disappointed. Expand

The awful story just ruined everything, I tried so hard to feel sorry for Abby’s miserable experience, but doing this only makes me feel sick, we spent so many hours with Joel and Ellie and we are so touched by their story, that’s why TLOU gained such a success, it made we players feel the same with the characters. But Abby? Come on,I really don’t give a s**t.(Her story was not that good btw)
Naughty dog should at least give players options rather than just output their idea, I know that revenge may just end tragedy but I absolutely don’t want to spent money and time being told “oh you should do this, we need peace”. I only felt 200% angry, 150% sad and 100% insultant during the game and using Abby killed by Tommy and Ellie became the only satisfying moment.
That’s it, 1 points for the great details and gameplay, -9 points for the story. I never thought a video game could make me feel so angry, well guess I’m too naive, sometimes too simple. Nicely done, naughty dog.

I was uncomfortable, I cried, I hated Naughty dog, I laughed, I was tired of it, I was genuinely touched, I felt dismissive... I could list a lot more. Two days after finishing it and I’m still not sure how I feel about it. The only thing I am sure of is that I've never thought about a game as much as I have thought about this one.

Game play wise, it is solid. I played on moderate and felt it was a little more forgiving than the first game when it came to resources, but the areas are larger and there is a lot more to discover and explore. I had some truly wild surviving 'by the seat of your pants' spells in the game, expending my resources and going hail Mary to survive which was incredibly satisfying and adrenaline filled.

The game is a lot more open that TLOU, there are some large expansive areas which can be explored or ignored, which in my eyes is something of a double edged sword. There is so much to be discovered in the optional areas, sweet, funny, touching, bleak and harrowing world building moments that really add to the game, but could be easily missed. If you’re playing just for the main narrative, and head for that next 'checkpoint' at every opportunity, there is a huge amount to be missed.

There is no other game like this. You are forced into situations that you do not want to be in, you are forced to do things that you do on want to do. You do not get a choice how these characters behave, you are pulled through a story against your will and forced to contemplate who these characters really are. It's not a game to make you happy, but it is an experience like no other game will give you.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a long criticism of the story and why I gave it a 0. If you're truly invested, then read it. **The Phantom Pain**

By now, we all know and understand why Abby does what she does. Her father was killed by Joel, and that lead her to seek revenge. It seems good on paper, but is done terribly. She endures incredible training and pain to become what she is, in her path to seek revenge. The problem is, that the player doesn't like or have a connection with her father. Abby's father is described by the game as a bit of a fanatic, willing to murder a child to obtain a cure that the Fireflies probably don't even have the proper resources to manufacture. His appearances are also minimum, used to set up Abby's backstory instead of her motivation. Instead of building up a relationship and reason for what Abby did, the game simply tries to tell us how Joel wronged Abby and she was right to kill him. Abby just doesn't feel solid. You don't just want the story to make sense in the context of the world, you want the audience to have a reason to care about what happens onscreen, instead of using their imagination **An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, but not for me. Only thee**

Naughty Dog has crafted a theme that they hold tall amid all the criticism, but it doesn't hold true for every character. A fine example of this can be attributed to Ellie and Abby. Abby's actions are sometimes completely unjustified, with her slaughtering WLF soldiers, as they look in shock of her murdering them, people that she's shared meals and long, harsh years with, yet she has no remorse for killing them. Her friends don't carry much weight to the theme of revenge either, being so poorly built up that you could have Ellie kill a strawmen and the story would still continue. Owen is the only outlier, but his role is more akin to that of a love interest in a teenage romance story, being the ignored lover and naughtily sneaking away with our main character to do some stuff. He doesn't have much character development. We aren't given much to care about, and Ellie's actions have little emotional impact on us. As far as we see, Ellie is just avenging her father figure. Nothing too bad. But the ending breaks down Ellie's actions and props up Abby. Imagine a faceless cowboy versus a gunslinger that you know an incredible amount of, and only ever does things out of necessity. You would automatically root for the gunslinger, right? There is a reason that villains are always less detailed than the hero, they're just a punching bag. But ND has messed up, trying to create an incredibly complex character that we don't have connections to and isn't forced to make hard choices, as opposed to one that's a product of their environment. It's why Abby feels like she should be the villain, and Ellie the one forged from steel

**If it wasn't for double standards, **** would have none at all** Drukmann is mentally unstable, being concerned with creating art in his own perfect vision, while not understanding the human perspective. On the one hand, Abby trained for years to murder a man she never met, having endured so much just to face off with a faceless figure. She's full of hate and anger that is completely undirected, and takes something precious away from us, the player. She takes away Joel. Then we want to see consequences for her, but then Drukmann doesn't understand the concept of revenge clearly enough. We viewed Joel the same way as Ellie, and we understand how she feels. We want to get back at her for ripping Joel from the base of our heart. But Drukmann treats the player as a buffoon, destroying skyscrapers and pitching tents on top of them.

**A path down the memory lane a day keeps the story away**

The flashback sequences were nice, but completely out of place and unneeded. Sure, we loved Joel's and Ellie's relationship, but Naughty Dog had already tore it down at the start. To me, that didn't matter, since one half of the memories were dead. They didn't represent a message or anything for Ellie either. They were entirely for us, the player, and it felt out of place within the story. It broke the pacing and felt like an incredibly disconnected scene that could've been in a different game, or a DLC. It was a quite and serene time, that had no place in this cruel and ugly world. They could've utilized it to help introduce the theme of forgiveness, and lighten the load of a tsunami-like message on the ending. But they didnt. And that's my honest criticism of the story. Some may say that it was art, but when you actually try to look at the story, you can see. Abby is what ND intends to be Joel, but she's doesn't make the tough choices and was fueled entirely by her hatred instead of only doing what was needed to survive. Lev barely got any character development and he/she (it?) felt like a tool for Abby to compensate for her lack of humanity. He's the only one she ever shows emotion towards and bonds with

An absolute butchering of what was established with the previous game. The game still looks amazing however the story however has suffered so much that it’s exhausting to get through. Naughty Dog is capable of way better than this.

    Strap in, folks...

The Last of Us was my favorite game for the better part of a decade. However modest a title that is, in the time between its release and the release of The Last of Us Part II, it was only ever truly challenged by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I wondered for a long time if there would ever be a sequel, all while simultaneously satisfied with the story that The Last of Us told; a powerful, moving, and evocative story filled with some of the best character development I've ever seen, a heart-wrenching climax complete with a moral dilemma to truly fracture the soul, and an ending that managed to strike the perfect balance of closure and invitation for continuation. As if that wasn't enough though, the Left Behind DLC was equally moving; a worthy counterpart and beautiful supplement to what was - in total - nothing short of a narrative masterpiece almost by an objective standard.

When Naughty Dog announced that it was making The Last of Us Part II, the Internet was suddenly ablaze with rumors, speculation, and fan theory. So many were excited to see what the writers had in store for the characters we'd come to love so dearly. I was equally excited, but also wary for the sake of the IP. The studio did everything they could to satisfy fans starving for more information: teaser trailers, cinematics, sample gameplay, and more. The community surrounding this IP not only loved it, but they also trusted the studio's writers to do it justice; a real rarity and welcome experience in the increasingly tumultuous and predatory industry that is AAA video game development. There was deep, unified support for one of the few good remaining studios, and it was all but certain that lightning would strike twice.

Only months prior to one of the most anticipated releases in gaming history, the Internet was once again ablaze. Only this time, it was bad news. Headlines appeared about major leaks and spoilers. Apparently, conflict within the studio had come to a breaking point and now spilled over into the public. Out of love for the IP, I went into an almost ridiculous state of Internet self-quarantine. I avoided any whisper about The Last of Us Part II for months. I had waited years for this game and I was determined to have a genuine gratifying experience playing it. I binged the game in all my hours of free time until I finished it last night...

No sequel or continuation - movie, book, video game or otherwise - has ever been so personally disappointing to me as has The Last of Us Part II.

No sequel or continuation - movie, book, video game or otherwise - has ever retroactively made me think so much less of the original.

I wish I could un-play The Last of Us Part II and forget it ever existed. At least then I would still love the beautiful story that was The Last of Us. Am I being melodramatic? Probably. It's only a game... but that's just it. It didn't used to be. At least not for me.

My advice may sound discordant, but there are reasons for it. If you love The Last of Us, do not play The Last of Us Part II. Don't stop there though. If you love The Last of Us, do not read, watch, or otherwise seek out anything about what happens in The Last of Us Part II. However, if you find this to be undoable, if you cannot resist and you must know the story, then you must actually play the game (ideally only once the price has bottomed out) and do so without spoiling any part of it for yourself beforehand. This is why, as much as I want to vent, I haven't written anything about the game's contents here. I can do that separately. This game is a betrayal of the story and the characters you love, by the developer that gave them to you seven years ago. All I can say is I don't see myself buying another game written or directed by Neil Druckmann or any of the writers for the Last of Us Part II. In fact, if I didn't know better I would ask who he stole The Last of Us from. The more I reflect on what transpires in The Last of Us Part II, the more it would seem that its predecessor might have just been a beautiful fluke; lightning in a bottle.

Everything about The Last of Us Part II other than the story ranges from good to amazing. The developers should be proud. Unfortunately, these things can't save a game that hinges entirely on its narrative when that narrative is so utterly broken that it disrespects what made the IP so beautiful in the first place.

If this isn't enough to convince you to completely ignore this game's existence, then I would encourage you to listen to any other spoiler-free player reviews you can find from people who were in your position before playing the game. The established critics are predictably out of touch. There is no "high art" aspect to this game, not even if you squint and turn your head sideways. If you love The Last of Us then this game is not worth playing. If you love The Last of Us, then The Last of Us still has no part two.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played all through TLOU2 and I genuinely liked it a lot. Its not as fresh or new as the originals, so I already feel like it has that part going against it, but overall as an experience I enjoyed it, and I found the differences between Abby and Ellie interesting.

I still think that if anyone hadn't seen the spoilers and didn't have their opinions of the game warped by the "rational anti-sjw" YouTubers, it would easily be better received and people would actually think for themselves. Even if some ideas of representation came off repulsive to people who get that upset by that kind of stuff, I believe it would be easier to brush off for that crowd. I personally liked Ellie's relationship with Dina, even if I feel Dina lacked some background in some areas, but what I found to like about her was that Ellie, even with all the **** shes gone through, had someone that she could love and be comforted by who accepted her for who she was, and I genuinely found that endearing. What I liked about Abby was that she was essentially a representation of what Ellie COULD have become. She got her revenge, and when she was given the chance to back down from Ellie and spare Dina, she did, even after all the **** that Ellie had gone through. In the end I actually believe Abby went through even WORSE circumstances than Ellie did, yet she decided to move forward and not be consumed by hate anymore, while Ellie couldn't even live with herself anymore and her entire identity became engulfed in rage and hatred, letting it get the best of her and her friends.

The game was clearly trying something different here that isn't normally done in story driven games, and while I was strongly opposed to playing a different side of the story, I grew to empathize with Abby and appreciate her arc as a character, and see how contrasted with Ellie. They're both different sides of the same coin. Both characters basically broke even, yet both processed their tragedies differently. Given that the theme of TLOU2 is "hate", I would say it does an excellent job of portraying it. Instead of Ellie choosing to move on, she chose to seek revenge. Instead of choosing to be happy, she chose to let the anger consume her, leaving her with nearly nothing left, but the smoldering ruins of her life. I wished the best for Ellie as well, and I can see how people are disappointed in the ending sequence, but I honestly was fond of the message it was trying to promote. Revenge sounds like a sweet prize in videogames, but in this scenario that tries to mimic reality, it is a often a hollow victory .

Id have to give the game an 8/10. It's trying something different that falls short in some aspects, but I respect what its doing and in many ways succeeds at it. People who are giving this game 3's and below while pretending to be "honestly giving their opinion" are just trying to veil their short sighted anger, while having the entire experience already ruined for them because some "anti-PC redpilled" youtuber told them that you're an idiot for liking this game. Almost no triple A games deserve ratings as low as a 3, and ESPECIALLY a game as polished as TLOU2. Even if the games story was as **** **** as people claim it to be, it would still deserve a MINIMUM of a 6 out of 10 for the level of detail and fidelity it has poured into it.

I cant convince anyone otherwise of how to view the game because it feels that anyone who even browses YouTube has had their perception so monumentally **** up to the point that there is no discussion to be had. They just see the game's leaks where you see everything completely unexecuted and left to the imagination, and then hear about it from someone online who wants to call it "SJW trash" and it will immediately be subject to the worst possible lens of skepticism and reviews. If everyone in this game were a bunch of straight white dudes, nobody would give a **** and maybe the only thing that people would criticize was that the story goes a bit too long.

8/10 for me, and to someone who dislikes the game, a 6/10 MINIMUM under any circumstance.

There wasn't a single moment that I wanted to put the controller down. Every organic moment felt choreographed even though it clearly couldn't have been which made it genuinely feel like I was controlling a movie most of the time. I've played a lot of great games, but this one is different. Naughty Dog created an excellent game, but more importantly they clearly worked hard to make it into a really engaging and challenging experience for the player.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanna start by saying that it's important to remember that the first game was a game with a very heavy emphasis on story, and therefore I think this sequal is more for the fans of the original game, rather than newcomers to the franchise (since it's a continuation of an already developed story). I avoided all spoilers to give this game a fair chance. Sadly, it was immensely disappointing, ruining both main characters of the original game. The pacing of the game, with the flashbacks within flashbacks and such was really weird and badly executed. All of this is such a shame, since the visuals, gameplay and atmosphere is definitely "game of the year" worthy, but the bad story, bad character development (of most of the characters), and inclusion of a horribly dull and uninteresting main "villain" just made this game uninteresting and boring for more than half of my playtime, and why would I give a boring game a high rating? Either way, I had such high hopes for this game, and it's just really sad that naughty dog couldn't live up to their previous standards. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When the game started I felt an instant nostalgic feeling which made me quite happy. Although, I don't like how the game has forced irrelevant political views in the story, and there was no multiplayer provided like it's predecessor had. I have not yet finished the game but I'm greatly enjoying it at the moment, the section of the game where you play as Abby feels like a chore, but overall would recommend it to anyone that enjoyed the first game, feels really similar.

EDIT: Just completed the game and the emotions are overwhelming, for a game we've all been waiting for 10 years it did exceptionally well, takes me a lot to tear up, and the ending did that. I can't stop thinking about the final scene of the games and Abby's survival, does this leave it open for a third game? Or maybe a cheeky DLC? Thanks naughty dog, I had my doubts, but it really lives up to the first game, which was a work of art.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really enjoyed my play through of this game. It’s darker than the first, but I feel the creators do a fair job of portraying Ellie’s continued development in a harsh world. I like that she seems affected by the choices she makes in a way that game creators often gloss over. And although I don’t always find myself agreeing with her choices - in fact there are moments where I was opposed to her decision-making - I understand why she does what she does, and I like being challenged as a player to play as a character that isn’t acting like a cut-and-dry “good guy” from jump.
I also really appreciate the introduction of the character of Abby, who serves as sort of a foil to Ellie as the game progresses. It’s not a light game by any means, but I think it’s a good exploration of how cyclical revenge can be and its long-term ramifications. If you’re in it to dive into a story, then it’s the game for you. If you’re strictly looking to have fun from a mechanical standpoint, you’ll probably enjoy playing a different shooter more.

The characters' decisions and motivation are well justified. The story poses one of the most debated philosophical questions, "Would you sacrifice fewer human souls to save many other souls?" This not good against evil. This is two good sides acting from different perspectives. You cannot choose a side because both are right in their own way. Therefore the ending is difficult to predict. The ending was perfect by the way.

Foi o melhor jogo que joguei, chorei muito em várias partes, principalmente na morte do Joel e na luta final entre a Ellie e Abby, tava muito difícil concentrar na batalha já que tava tudo embaçado a vista. But the more you get into the details like journal entries of ellie, conversations which you only listened to half of the time, it all makes kind of sense. I'm not 100% in on the ending, but it really shows the desperation such a world would create.

    2. Story

    Gameplay ---> 4/5
    Story ---> 2/5
    Overall 6

Gameplay is the best Naughty Dog Has Yet to offer , and one of the best i've played
Graphics are so darn good , so much details ,
    Level Design is impressive,
it basically takes most previous ND games aspects and boosted them to a whole new level
    Just Awesome ....

But what game lacks here is a proper story that matches the level of it's predecessor,
i'm fine with that "character's death" and game was going okay till the second half of it,
game really did not sell me the story of other characters, their relation with others is so shallow and full of cliches .. and did not make the effort to made the proper impact on me and make me sympathize with this character , i've seen some anime and films selling me the same story idea in a better way.

for me .. game feels like separate individual parts that has been glued together ,
if the game has been made into a different order it might have been looked better.

So it's Basically not the sequel that TLOU 1 deserves.

The graphics are good enough it’s is easy to get though by just pushing up on the joystick the story is really cringe i enjoyed some parts of it just really didn’t give the new characters any story development in the game i was kinda confused on how it ended it really makes no sense and then the last thing they do is kick joel when he is already out on the last cutscene. Not only did he die he was heartbroke about their relationship and even more he says he would of let her die if given the opportunity again. **** Expand

The Last of Us is my favourite game.

Uncharted 2 is a top 3 game, and the rest of the Uncharted series on my top 10 list. So I hold ND in VERY high regard. To say I was excited for TLOU 2 is an understatement. I knew going in I would not be playing as Joel. I wasn´t in love with the idea - but I was fine with it. I liked the Ellie parts in the original and played the expansion -

To say I was excited for TLOU 2 is an understatement.

I knew going in I would not be playing as Joel. I wasn´t in love with the idea - but I was fine with it. I liked the Ellie parts in the original and played the expansion - so it was all good.

What made the original my favourite game is simple: Atmosphere and Story. I loved the gameplay mechanics and pacing of course, but the overall atmosphere with that relationship at the core, that's what elevated it to the top.

The sequel has none of the magic of the first.

The atmosphere is just depressing. The way violence is portrayed will make many uncomfortable, but it did not bother me. But it was all just so depressing.

If the story was the magical ingredient of the first game - it is the undoing of this game.
    It's also depressing. Boring even.
There is a central character that I did not like at all; Had no empathy for and I would go as far as to say I disliked - intensely.
To put the cherry on top of this cake of misery, I was then forced to play as this character.

i'm sure the developer had some profound vision of lessons the player is supposed to draw from the game. What is the point of revenge and violence? - put yourself in the shoes of others or something or other. I don't know.

What this game taught me is that playing as a character you don't like is no fun - no matter the lessons.

So to end this - this game was not made for the fans of the original.
ND has a different audience in mind. It makes me sad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For the last couple of days now I have been reading through hundreds and hundreds of mind numbing and brainless comments from people who couldn't see the point if it stabbed them.. The Last Of Us Part 2 has been getting absolutely torn apart by players saying anything from "it is horrible and lazy storytelling" to "Naughty Dog have completely destroyed the games franchise and betrayed fans.. Just because Joel dies?..

Well at least, I've seen proof of dozens and dozens of people that got to that scene and stopped playing due to hysterical emotion only to start blindly slandering it in every way..

Yes, it is quite a gut wrenching scene for a video game and I don't mean graphically, (although it's up there for that reason too)
I mean because of the connection with Joel from the first game being so strong that it literally wrenches your stomach.. But for a lot of people who don't think that Joel dying outright ruined it, it's about the way he dies being so unmagnanimous in nature that it doesn't, or just can't make any sense to them..

This is incredibly narrow minded, and if your argument is that he didn't deserve it, then you need to take a few marshmallows out from in front of your eyes and witness reality, he didn't deserve it, but things that aren't good happen..

The voice of Joel himself, Troy Baker said something like this, and I'm paraphrasing quite freely but the point remains the same.. He said; People need to allow themselves to enjoy Joel and Ellie' stories and not the story they want..

Which I think is perfect for summing up the exact opposite of how almost everyone has reacted to this game, just get upset at how it didn't go the way they think it should have and say its a piece of garbage regardless of anything else or the fact that it's brilliant.. "IMO"

Okay so Joel gets his head bashed in with a golf club, and it's by this **** named Abby that, for a fairly long time playing, no one knows who is but it's clear she has some kind of problem with Joel, and that's the main reason for all the hate.. Clearly this gets explained as the game goes on, however..

People are saying, mostly, that he shouldn't have been in such a stupid position as getting surrounded by strangers and then giving his name, which prompts Abby to blow his knee out with a shotgun before going to town..

But at that point, it had been 25 years since the outbreak began and his daughter was killed, 4 years since "saving" Ellie, and two years since he had to tell Ellie the truth about other people with immunity being a lie and what had really happened that night at the hospital..

That being said at the beginning of Part 2 Joel is very obviously a different man, he is weaker, because he is older, has been through so much and also due to the fact that he and Ellie had grown apart over Joel's decision 4 years ago, and she now resents him for what he did...

On top of all that, it is perfectly understandable, and humanly acceptable that Joel and Tommy had grown a little careless or more trusting of strangers in need of help after living in Jackson comparatively comfortably to the previous 20 years of the outbreak...

Meaning they simply let their guard down, especially forgivable seeing as they were in the middle of a worsening snow storm that would have killed them all, so they acted quickly and on what was now, weakened instinct..

Playing as Abby is copping ridiculous hate as well, I think it's amazing storytelling the way it goes in and out of time periods and shows exactly what was happening with Abby at the time of Joel "saving" Ellie as well as the events of Seattle days 1-3, and it all reveals crucial information which, in case anybody didn't notice, is all explanation as to why this games story goes the way it does.. In conclusion, the game is not hindered by poor or lazy writing, that's why it has the professional critic score that it has, because it's amazingly good.. Retrospectively that is also why THEY are the critics and everyone else just posts their dumbass opinions on the internet without a shred of insight to them..

What this game is hindered by, is a shockingly large lack of people able to make use of critical thinking and enjoy something for what it is rather than whinge because its not what they wanted.. Spoiled Little Gamer Syndrome.. Peace..

Naughty Dog, I don't think i can ever forgive you for that. But i would like to try.

Combat feels good, but becomes repetitive the ''upgrade system'' feels outdated and could have been solved a lot better in my opinion, Graphics are awsome for PS4 pro, but as a mainly PC gamer it has okay grafics, nothing to really impress, shadows feels weird sometimes and 30 fps in 2020 is okay for PS4 i guess.

The story... oh boy... what a mess. It starts as a solid 9/10, becomes a 5/10 after like 2 hours in game. Then the most of the story is just making u want to speed run half the game which makes this thing become a 3/10, then after all that mess u get an ending and lets u think the overall rating on the story just isnt justified to be above 1/10.

If a game forces u to play half the time as an absolutely unlikeable character u just want to see dead, it is some kind of torture and no not the good kind of torture like the Dark Souls series or Sekiro where the difficulty is so high that its kinda torture but its so satisfying when u progress. This is nowhere around in the last of us 2, u just feel empty and wanna quit cuz u are having 0 fun playing most parts of the games.

I would go so far and say its the worst game i have played in the last 5 years and im reviewing this game only cuz im so disappointed and have been a fan of the last of us 1. No one can give me the time back i lost playing this game so here is my solid 1/10, i give it 1 point because u can actually play it and it didn't crash.

This game managed to kill such an important character, the main character from the first game in a very poorly written way: Joel after the first game where he didn't trust no one decided to go with some random strangers, give his real name and die in a cutscene, so we couldn't even play that moment. After that we got forced to play 10 hours with his killer in orded to empathize with her (for example by putting a scene where Ellie had to kill a dog and after that a scene where Abby pet a dog). There aren't real develpoment because is just a go back and forth and all of this, without considering a lot of things that didn't have sense like how in some point of the game the main group was all injured and still managed to make out of Seattle and retun to Jackson alive or how Lev managed to survive from a punch in the face by a man that probably weight more than 100 kg after had hitten a garage door, or last because otherwise this would be too long putting your best medic who is pregnant in first line in order to get killed. Adding to this the ending where Ellie after she killed so much people, lose Joel, lose 2 fingers decide to spare Abbie, the murder, becuase the game has to show that revenge is bad. The gameplay and graphic are good but in a story telling game for me the most important part is the story, and this story is bad, with no character develpoment, ruining all the good things from the first game and without the multiplay mode too.

Sound design and music is top notch. The music – as well as being beautiful – is a masterclass in acoustic instrument recording. Sound effects and ambient sounds are nothing but perfect.

The acting is at the highest level, much due to excellent dialog written by Gross and Druckmann.

    The mediocre:
Gameplay mechanics are a little janky sometimes and can feel dated and repetitive. Sneaking is implemented nicely, but you will undoubtably become frustrated by the limited situational awareness caused by tight FoV combined with slow head movement. Shooting mechanics are OK, and is of typical Naughty Dog style – alright for those only playing on console, and at times infuriating for those who mostly play on PC.

The story – there's no denying it. It's sub par. People give it 0/10 because of one single event early in the game, as if they have ownership of the characters, or perhaps a sense of being co-creators since the played the first game. This is called entitlement, and is a real problem in todays society. You have to remember that you are a viewer of another persons creative vision. You where not a part of making the game – you are the audience. That being said; The Last of Us Part 2 has a very strange story. A typical hollywoodesque revenge story with the same old tropes and cliches. All set in a well known nihilistic post apocalypse that seems inevitable for every American writer. Humanity is reduced to a psychopathic lizard brain that can only torture and kill. The Last of Us part 1 managed to tell a fresh story in this standard post apocalyptic setting – a story that resonated emotionally, and managed to hold on to humanity by its last thread. The Last of Us part 2 on the other hand is just a revolving door of hatred and despair. Perhaps it was meant as a study of what would happen if you grew up in such an environment. But it falls through. The main issue with it is that it fails to be believable. It fails to be relatable.

    The bad:
At the end the game fails to resonate emotionally.
It will leave you empty. It will not leave you with questions, it will not leave you in awe like the first game. It will not open up discussions around anything. It will not provide deeper meaning or the chance of interpretation. Theres nothing to analyse. The story and character developments come across as a juvenile, with a high schoolers knowledge of psychology and philosophy. The gameplay has too much focus on loot. vacuuming every corner and every shelf spamming triangle whilst being 30cm away from the wall takes away from being able to enjoy the larger world.

Expand
