    I give it 1 star only because of the hard work that is put in the visuals. Being a fan of the first game, this game is a really good example of why politics dont belong in video games. Absolute disgrace. I cant believe how they ruined this masterpiece. Get woke, go broke.

    SPOILERS AT THE END

    The strongest point of the game is the story.
    It's hard for me to call this game just a game because I think it goes through that conventional narrative barrier of telling a story. To start the game begins strong (very strong for many) I am speechless and devastated, as in the first game, and makes it clear what this second part was about.

    The story is not linear, this makes it even more exciting because they are telling us a story and then they put a part of the story but the past that makes it turn and add or change the meaning of what you are doing now and this happens repeatedly in history and makes the game feel non-repetitive. The only thing I did not like was the change in what the climax of the game felt, because when this happens I feel a kind of brake on the momentum that we were carrying and it was such that I even wanted to stop my playing time but This little by little is achieving traction and weight to what would come next.

    Then there are the graphics, the light effects and the sound, these are incredible and unprecedented, they make the reality hit of the game feel much stronger and they transport you very easily to the situation presented as few games can. , is a triumph over the console hardware. Music is an atmospheric seal in the first game and we see the same again in the present by the hand of the original composer, Gustavo Santaolla.

    The gameplay did not evolve at all and it is still the same concept, for me, that is good because if it was not bad in the last game then it is better not to touch it, I admit that it would have been interesting to see something new and not more of the same. The elaboration of grenades, arrows and healing kits use the same system as in the first and the same with the ammunition that is scarce at all times and with the way to improve your weapons and equipment. I was disappointed with the difficulty of the game in general, I was playing it in difficult mode and I did not feel any difficulty about the enemies or the resources they gave me, I did not feel the challenge as in the first game.

    The scenarios are beautiful and sometimes even terrifying but above all they make you feel like you're in the game because they take care of even the smallest detail. From being on top of a skyscraper to being deep in a forest being hunted at night. At the time of the confrontations you as a player can decide whether to want to face all the enemies in a violent way or to leave stealthily without anyone noticing (this is a little more difficult).

    The enemies that we meet do not go beyond being the typical infected, including totally new ones, and then there are the human enemies that do not go beyond being the typical militarized surviving groups and the extremist cults, each group has its own way of dressing and its characteristic weapons, I was very impressed that they added so much detail to the enemies that when you kill one, the other one of his team shouts his name as if he knew it and this makes it give more realism to the game.

    The main characters that are Ellie and Abby develop them in a different way since one goes down a path of revenge, killing everything that comes their way and the other goes down a path like reflection, helping even people who have ever they wanted to kill her. The two have their own stories and at some point they collide giving the player the perspective of both making the game deeper, but being Ellie's game and having Joel's story from the first game as background we lean more to Ellie feeling even guilty of our way of acting.
    The secondary characters help the story a lot, they do not feel filling or empty, on the contrary I think they have to some extent an interesting story to tell, in fact I think they influence Ellie and Abby's decisions more than one thinks .

    CONCULSION
    This game is another masterpiece from Naughty Dog's studio in The Last of Us series, it's a story hard to digest, understand, and beat. It is a journey of emotions and discoveries that the game left behind and that now delivers an incredible story never before seen with characters that we will remember and that marked us. The only thing stopping me from giving it a perfect 10 is unchanged gameplay, the same enemies, and difficulty. But all this is nothing compared to the rest of what the game gives me, an excellent story, rich and heavy characters, an impeccable soundtrack, beauty, terror and forgiveness. I'm going to make my own mind up, maybe the story of what leads to the spoilers would make up for main character deaths. No, no, no, it doesn't, I'm maybe 1 hour in if that, and the graphics and textures of the world are awful , the interactions with scenery is like that of a nintendo64 game. But then neil druckman whom has literally put himself in the game he has ruined literally spits on Joel as he lays there bleeding from his head, and then he thretans to shoot ellie and is only stopped but another npc. Thanks to amazon I can return this piece of crap and get my money back. Defiantly not a MUST PLAY, more of a MUST AVOID. Like spiderman 3 and the last jedi, this game has ruined what could have been a great franchise.… Expand

While yes, the developers killed off Joel, you need to understand not only why the developers made that choice, but why Abby as a character was so motivated to do so.
    While we can sympathize with him and try to minimize his actions, what Joel did to the Fireflies was an objectively horrible act that prevented the world from being saved for his own selfish desire to have a daughter figure back. Even Joel knows this, considering he lied to Ellie for so long about it. While I didn’t want Joel to die, that’s why I personally felt motivated to engage in Ellie’s borderline suicidal pursuit for revenge. It was not the period of events we wanted, but it was one vital to the progression of Ellie’s character.
    I’ve heard complaints of how characters act “out of character” in this game, which is not true at all. The world of TLOU is not a world for pure protagonists. Taking Ellie as the main character being targeted by this critique, she is an incredibly traumatized young woman living in a world of constant fear and danger. It’s entirely unrealistic to expect her to be anything less than majorly flawed.
    In Abby’s story, I found the humanization of those I had previously hated to be a very unique and cognitively challenging hurdle to get over. I killed these people earlier as Ellie, and now they appear as more than targets. They’re allies and friends. Abby’s story pulls more from the original game than Ellie’s story does. It’s a bunch of new characters rediscovering a feeling of purity and innocence only for that to be squashed by the events of the world around them. It’s an incredibly sad and effective tale that causes even more distress when I have to pin the two against each other.
    For people criticizing the writing of the dialogue, all I’m going to ask is what did you get out of the first game that the dialogue of this one was so ‘bad’?
    I saw one comment about the game getting ‘political’. What? What’s political about the game? The fact that Ellie’s gay? How’s someone’s sexual preference a political take?
    The only reason I don’t give the game a 10 is because of the way the epilogue was rolled out. While I really liked the epilogue as a whole, it felt like the game was going to end like 15 times before the rattler sequence. Also the concept of super evil guys that just like torturing people for fun I a post-apocalyptic zombie-like apocalypse is a dumb trope, but neither of these are major issues by any stretch of the imagination.    … Expand

Instead, this game took everything magical about the original and flushed it down the toilet. Like others have said, it felt like an agenda was forced down your throat for the games entirety.

    The original E3 trailer is GROSSLY misleading. It is easy to see why Sony censored anything related to the second half of the game. That's the most I can say without spoiling the game.    … Expand

    Let me be clear: I am accepting of all people and that doesn't play into why I didn't like the game. You can't play the first one and the Left Behind DLC to the first game and not already be accepting of those things.

    The story was not what we were supposed to get, a continuation of the first game with more character development. The second one doesn't end in a way that makes you fulfilled or find meaning and appreciation for the game. The game mechanics and visuals were very improved and I was pretty impressed. But the plot wasn't very good, and leaves a hole in my heart. Naughty dog seemed to disown their TLOU 1 fans and just tried forcing you to empathize with other people in very unnatural ways that you clearly weren't going to accept.

    Game mechanics improved greatly, much more stuff you can do, better maneuverability, visuals, etc (except for the use of scopes which wasn't nearly as good as the first game). Story was pretty garbage, and while I'm totally accepting of people, the only time they introduced controversial identity politics was for plot devices that drive the game, probably because in the real world it's a bigger deal. I find it hard to believe anyone would care about these issues in an apocalypse. I didn't care, but it felt like I was getting a stern talking to the whole time and that characters were intentionally portrayed as stuck in their ways so they could be transformed, and there wasn't much meaning, surprise, or artistic expression in that sense. There are actual chunks of the game with super predictable plot. Pretty frustration.    … Expand

    I respect that Naughty Dog is willing to take risks and craft stories they think will be impactful. But when that story is executed in amateur fashion, isn't enjoyable, and destroys everything players love about the first game, Naughty Dog had better be prepared for the backlash. For the first time in my long gaming career, I will now act with caution whenever Naughty Dog releases another game.

The story is amazing and very powerful, it truly makes you reflect on the characters choices. Naughty dog absolutely delivers with this game even if I still wish things had been different. I have never played through a series that was so emotionally gripping. Naughty dog truly created a world that pulls you in and keeps you drawn for the vast majority. That being said there are some points where you feel tedious gameplaywise. The story truly has you engaged at all time. I highly recommend you play this game. Also for all of those who worry about things like this. Naughty dog did a great job at keeping strong female character's, including a racially diverse group, and adding LGBTQ themes all without it feeling shoved down your throat and making the male characters look weak. This game is a perfect example of how to spread social awareness without having to make one party look inferior. I really hope they make this a trilogy, and so long as they nail the cast, I will be very much looking forward to the hbo series.… Expand

    el tema de venganza de Ellie se va al caldo al final solo por un simple flashback, enserio? has recorrido cientos de kilometros y matado a cientos de personas a sangre fria a costa de perder a tu familia solo para dejar vivo al motivo de tu venganza por un flasback?

    Spectacular game, even more of an emotional journey than the first. Near-flawless gameplay aside, the story challenges you at every turn and will surely only be more enriching on a second play-through. Coming here to see all the negative user reviews is a massive surprise, but some cursory glances show they were written by people who failed to understand the themes of the first game.

    I was angry for a whole year, but now I understand the game. Is good. Super good. But I like the first one better. I don't have to say nothing more since everyone already did. The pacing is the worst thing the game have I think, but nothing more. You need to understand the characters.

    Just not a fun game to play, and when one of the biggest draws of the game is the story, it is such a kick in the balls when you see what happens in the end. Its almost as if the writer wants to prove some sort of point to all the fans of the last game. The graphics and game play were fine and even top notch but that's all the positive i can say about it.

    The graphics and the smallest details is what really holds this game together. Gameplay and crafting is really before its time. The story on the other hand.. a complete mess. I can go on about it but it’s just not worth that. I expected more. Was a real let down

Why the fudge are we playing as Abby and how can meta critic and other recognizable gaming review sites rank it this high? This just baffles me. With all this negativity there are some good features about this game though. One of them being exposing the LGBT community into video games, but it seems like this game used it as a marketing strategy. Another thing is that it obsesses a lot of emotional and real life situation that many experienced in real life and this really attracted me from the start. My final thing is that the physics and controlling the character is pretty accurate and exciting. Combat is fun and it didn't change and I salute them for that. Overall this game has more cons than pros and a game like this that changed my perspective of gaming really let me down. I hope anyone reading this feels the same or if you don't thats fine. I am glad there are some people enjoying this game but I am not one of those people unfortunately. Why couldn't we play as Joel till his death or his brother Tommy? I'll leave it at that.     I have extremely mixed feelings about this game. I did not enjoy the story (partially the things mentioned above, partially dislike of writing decisions), which is what drags this game down for me. I loved the technical things, like the gameplay, the bosses, atmospheric settings etc, but it's not enough to save a story-driven game. Having bonded so much to Ellie and Joel's relationship, I found it hard to be engaged for Abby's part of the game despite that's what the game wants us to do. I UNDERSTAND the game and the ending, my opinion comes down to personal preference.

    My favourite thing about TLOU 2 was the relationship between Ellie and Dina, which made the experience much more enjoyable than it otherwise would have been. I am a bi woman, so I appreciated a game of this size going all in with a wlw relationship. Ellie's flashbacks were wonderful and very touching.

    I went in blind with this game, TLOU is my favourite game of all time and I have anticipated this for so long. I avoided all leaks, having only seen official trailers and gameplay footage. Unfortunately I ended up quite disappointed, but I still think the game is worth playing through. It is a technical/visual masterpiece, but unfortunately not as a whole including the story, in my opinion.    … Expand

    The only problem with this game is the long cinematic videos. The story is a story full of emotions and it’s intense. In my opinion, this story helps to understand how to be a good person in moments of crisis, to know that vengeance, selfishness and carrying hate is a bad thing.

The truth and context of this game is much worse than the leaks. Before I get into one of the worst stories ever. The gameplay is very average in today's modern gaming generation. There are minor improvements from the first game and enemy AI is dumb as ever. There are more cut scenes and walking than actual gameplay. SPOILER ALERT..... they destroyed all of your favorite characters. They dumb down Joel's character on purpose to make him weak and stupid. In the first game he was very smart and had a ton of experience. He didn't even trust a guy that was sick on the road. He chose to run him over. Later we find out that stranger on the road was not sick and it was all a set up. They do everything to make you dislike Joel and continue to spit on him. They have a trans female/male shoot him in the leg and torture him with a golf club right in the first 2 hours of the game. They spit on him literally. They made Ellie unlikable and a selfish human being. She kills everyone and continued to blame Joel for saving her life. She cared so much in saving humanity because she has the immunity but instead she became a lesbian and chose not to reproduce. Let that sink in. She even let's Abby the one that tortured and murdered Joel in front of her get away with it. Abby also bit off two of Ellie's fingers. Her letting Abby go is basically saying Joel deserved dying. A loveable character who is the main character of the game. There was no justice for Joel. This game robbed everything from you just for shock value. The current narrative of destroying the male character to make the female character rise is very weak story telling. It is disrespectful to both genders. Females even hate it. Worst of all the pacing of the story is horrible. You literally play as Abby the character we hate for half the game. They tried so hard to make us like her but none of it worked. This game is a waste of time and money and should have never been created as a sequel. The critics are liars and they don't care about what the fans want. They only care about their political narrative and force you to like something that you will never accept. Then they insult you by calling you names because you don't like the product they are praising. They are the worst kind of human being. Trust the gamers that actually love playing the kind of video games you like. Those are the ones who you should listen to. Vote with your wallet and avoid this dumpster fire. Why care for a game created by a studio that is run by Neil Druckmann who is a male feminist and does not care about the fans and the people he works with. That's why 75 percent of Naughty dog left the company due to how he treated them. This game is created by people that don't care about you and backed by people that hate you. I don’t care for all the reviews on here that are aggravated at the notion that naughty dog altered some of the characters sexuality or whatever, I don’t see how that explains why the story is so poor. What made me so angry throughout my playthrough is how they not only robbed me of playing as the character I loved, but made me sympathize with Abby, and try to vilify Ellie. I **** hated playing this game, they turned one of the most lovable and relatable characters into someone who would throw everything away for revenge like some dumb, unlikeable antagonist. Honestly just so ****g pissed that they ruined Ellie, i wanted to punch through my monitor throughout all the ending cutscenes. The last of us is a story of relationship between Ellie and Joel. Joel has lost evrything in the first game including his humanity. But he gets it back thanks to Ellie who slowly healed his heart. And Joel, just acting like all other people would've act, saved Ellie. So now in this second game, instead of having an illustration of Ellie's relationship with Joel all along the game, we just show you Joel in some flashbacks wich in total are about 1h10min. Yes... 1h10 min of Joel in the last of us part 2 wich is 25 hours long. You kill the main character of the series and after you are forced to play 10 hours as the strong woman who killed him just to sympathize with her for what she has done. Let me just say this clear, this isn't a naughty dog game, this is a Sarkaziaan and Druckman game. Kill all the male characters, Joel, Jesse, and letting alive the submitted husband wich is Tommy, but even if he is submitted he still a man so we will make sure he loses an eye and the use of one of his legs. You kill Joel to introduce another character at his place wich nobody cares because she has no reason to be in this game, Yes Joel killed her father because he was trying to kill Ellie. You kill a young man named Jessie, which is honnestly for me the only good new character, just to make sure your plan of having a lesbian family will work. And when the end is near, you let live the only person who braught you all these nightmares just to make sure she will be the main character of the next game because she is a STRONG WOMAN WHO DEFENDS A TRANSGENDER INOCENT CHILD WHO KILLED HER MOTHER. So bassicly they kill Joel, kill Jesse, ruin Tommy's life and made a reality of Ellie's gratest fear of being alone, but miss hulk gets to live because she's a strong woman and an example for everyone. This is disgusting, i am just so sad for what they have done to all the characters, this game was ment to destroy them because of identical ideologies of mister druckman and miss sarkaziaan. Right up till it should've ended at the farm house..... Or gave us a choice and made it multiple ending.... Everything after that I honestly just felt dirty doing. You completely gutted the characters you built up. So many other ways to finish that. Leave it at the farm, have E and A team up, have them come back to each other looking for help... But you chose to just crap on all of it..... Playing through again just skipping any cutscene after the farm....… Expand

    But why people are review-bombing this game? Why do they think that Neil Druckmann and Naughty Dog made this game only to make LGBT people like this game? WTF? Ellie was lesbian before part 2! You remember about DLC for the first TLOU, right? It was there. C'mon, play it!

    AHHHH, ABBY KILLED JOEL - STORY SUCKS. No its not, you pricks. Yeah, it is hard to understand what the hell just happened after this cruel mission. But after some time the story is gonna make you understand why abby did this. This is the story that makes you see both sides of conflict. And this is one of the greatest stories I've ever played through.

    Completed this game on survivor difficulty within 35 hours.

    Is fascinating to see how much Abby "the hero" and her team are determined to cross the country in pain to find and make justice on "Joel the great villain" for his past evil action, in the very same way Ellie try to do the same on Abby "the villain".
    This story is pure gold, not only because of the plot, but also because force you to see the two face of a coin, deal with it, and understand there is no pure "good or evil" and that Joel, Abby and Ellie are the same in many ways.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Emotional rollercoaster. During Covid19 lockdown I discovered TLOU1 lying around and was instantly hooked. To put into come context I had just finished part 1 no more than a week before Part 2 landed through my letterbox. So, I can understand that a lot of players who adored part 1 fell into disarray when Joel died barely 2 hours into the game. After a 7 year wait and everything! But don’t judge the game on that point alone (which a lot of people seem to be doing). I HATED Abby once she took that final blow to Joel’s head but with the amazing story telling talents of Naughty Dog, the stunning graphics and real heart in mouth gameplay I ended up sympathising with her to the point where even I was confused! Where this game really thrives is the narrative. It reminds you that the characters we control are human, just like us, with real emotions and desires. And actually, on paper, Abby has been through far more hurt than Ellie has so when her backstory is played out, you could argue that her actions were justified.
    Just as a sidenote to anyone who is unhappy with the game’s ‘agenda’ and feels uncomfortable with the mere thought that their ‘macho’ gaming experience should include any representation other than the Joels & Tommys of this world - grow up. Play this game again when you’re free from your cloud of rage and appreciate it for what it is - an inclusive, enthralling and immersive experience.    … Expand

    Everyone hated the game for dumb reasons, the first seconds are nothing compared to the rest of the game (just understand this), but If I got spoiled of something? no problem the game destroys you even with the spoilers. Like Naughty Dog said no one is prepared for this game, you go in a venture of full deeply feels never seen in other games. And like in any other game have the haters who wants to destroys everyone's experience, putting nasty and fake things of the game, 99% of them just played 2h of the game for sure, you just need to know and trust me this is a game that goes to change your perspective of life. Gustavo Santaolalla compositions grab your feelings and throw in the ground 100 times and when you think it's finally over ohh boy be prepared.

    Stop whining and play through the whole game yourself, its at the very least 20-25 hours of playtime minimum, yet people cry about it on day one release date.
    When they possibly couldn´t have finished the game that exact day... unless they don´t have an actual life besides videogames of course...
    Stop rating games on leaks you have read and play it yourself you angry fools.

    I guess a complex revenge story is to demanding for people in these days of Marvel and all those happy little endings and shallow entertainment, lmfao.

    It could have been more satisfying for all of us to kill Abby, but with all that has happend in the game it´s absolutely understandable from an narrative and emotional standpoint that Ellie can´t take it no longer and grew tired of her own hatred and pursuing her revenge.
    In the end it costed both Ellie and Abby to much just to have their sweet vengeance...
    Abby literally lost every friend shehad after killing Joel and Ellie most likely destroyed her relationship with Dina and Tommy, for different reasons, and let´s not forget Jesse got killed because of all of this, not to mention that she killed a pregnant women, not that i personally cared about that **** Mel, but it´s understandable that it would take effect on Ellie...
    Only Wolf I felt ever sorry for is Owen anyway, but thats not the point.
    The moral of the story is, to quote RDR2: 'Vengance is an idiots game'.

I heard that when the first game was about Love, this was themed around hate, so this was something that I thought about a lot during my playtime. It is hard to get someone to explore negative emotions and come out feeling good, and I feel that a lot of that this game was getting at was that death is painful to deal with, we don't all go out in meaningful ways.

    I felt that there was a bit of a gameplay lull in the middle similar to Alien: Isolation where after you get powerful and reach a climactic point, everything resets to the new character which is a little unsatisfying.

    Gameplay-wise, I felt that the rarer infected functioned a lot better and were more interesting than the first game and the newer variants were interesting. A big issue for me in the first one was simplistic, repeating puzzles. I feel that this game had some more interesting and original mechanics for puzzles which I appreciated. I wasn't as big a fan of the brute type human enemies or the chase scene, horse escape that felt a little too much like Uncharted for me.

    I think the takeaway message is loss sucks but it's something we have to deal with in life, exploring the emotions and the way that hate destroys so much around us with no real catharsis is a bold move, and I did feel myself getting emotionally invested.

    Overall I think that the game might have been too long to make it's a point well, but I advise people to see it through to the end. If you are at all on the fence, I suggest waiting for a price drop.    … Expand

    There are flaws and issues with the story but it does not deserve the slating it has received.

    As a huge fan of the first game i was really looking forward to part 2. I love part 2 just as much as part 1. this game is one of my all time favorite games of all time. i love the story the graphics are amazing. i beat the game within 2 days after it came out and i found myself still playing it a week later. i love this game and think its absolute perfect.

    As a fan of naughty dogs, this game slapped me hard.
    The gameplay of TLOU2 is undoubtedly, but the story is a disaster.
    For my understanding, it just ND want player to accept his idea but give up anything of TLOU.
    But we buy TLOU 2 because of we love TLOU 1 very much.
    i will promote this terrible experience of this game to everyone i met.
    To prevent other guys encounter such tragedy.

    Masterpiece. Best game I've ever played. So much emotion and tension it's almost unbearable. Great story, loved it. The graphics are out of this world. The environments are so beautiful you'll sometimes just stand there and look around and be amazed. Can't wait for TLOU3.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.
