The last of us 2 ist das grausamste Spiel das ich je gespielt hab. With no regrets! The Last of us 2 ist ein Gesellschaftlicher Spiegel. Oh mein Gott

p.s. Am not sure why it has so much negative reviews, seems to be review bombed (on day 1 of release, for a 30+ hour game...) by weirdos snowflakes who only read the leaks or a summary or who knows what... then took time out of their lives to hate on something they haven't even played. Metacritic really needs to sort their **** out when it comes to how easy it is to abuse the system. Just ignore all the bs and play this game for yourself.

A disappointing sequel filled with a disgusting agenda: men bad, white people bad and racists and homophobes. Other than that, I think Naughty Dog should keep doing politically charged games! It's not like those racists are going to alienate their main base and sink their company in the ground.

Also greatly enjoyed the represantation offered by the game. My worst critique would be that Ellie didn't really feel like a person in this game. We didn't get to see her personality shine at all through all the anger and revenge. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review contains spoilers. So I got the game early and played it. I read or saw no spoilers before the release. I never do.

So here is what I think:

    Pros:
    - gameplay
    - graphics
    - atmosphere
    - sound
    - music

All those parts are undeniable very good. Its top notch. Sure the controls sometimes feel weird but they do in most of the games. It would be unfair to say this game isnt up to date in terms of all those points I mentioned.

    Cons:
    - story
    - character design
    - character development
    - plot holes

So, even with all the pros this game is really really bad. It makes NO sense that Ellie act how she acts in certain parts of the game but that isnt even the biggest thing about why its bad.
    The reason is: character development.
If you kill one of the most beloved characters early in the game (Joel) and want to bring in new main playable characters like Abby, you HAVE to bring WAY more backstory in order to make the player feel with her.
    I mean she KILLED Joel!
How do you make the player like her? Bring more and more backstory before she does that. Let the players play 2-10h as Abby when she was a child or whatever. The backstory of her is basically told in 10minutes and then her dad is being killed. Thats it? And now I have to feel with her and understand why she killed Joel?
    Hell no!
That is weak story telling. Really really weak.

Then there are all the other new characters. Nobody is likeable. Like really. They all feel empty. They are only shells without any meaning.

This game is just bad. Do yourself a favor and dont buy it. The reviews the journalists wrote are either bought by Sony or ND or are heavily politicly influenced. Sad thing is: because of that same journalists will most likely make this game GOTY. What a joke.

Safe your money and buy something else.

And last but not least: this is technically a very good game but the story/characters is/are SO bad it just doesnt matter how well the rest is done.

You want a good revenge story? Watch "Oldboy" then you know how to make a good revenge story that shocks everybody to their core.

This game right here? Its garbage.

It is a deep story about emotional trauma and the deadly cycle of vengeance that will continue endlessly until someone chooses to rise above it and move on. The graphics get a nice boost from the first game, the game world is much more explorable, and full of Easter eggs to other naughty dog IPs. All of the characters are like able. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Most heart-wrenching game I have ever played. An absolute masterpiece.

First off, Joel deserved to die. I hate to say it, but it's the truth. Joel not only brutally murdered Abby's only parent but also ruined any chance of the world returning to normal. One death could have saved millions. I understand the anger after Joel died, I was angry too. I sobbed. But after playing as Abby for numerous hours, I began to understand what Naughty Dog was trying to tell us. Abby got the same kind of sick revenge that Ellie spends the entire game doing. And in the end, Ellie has to deal with what her greed has brought her. This is not a cheery game, I don't understand why people expected it to be that. Why would Naughty Dog give you exactly what we expected? Every moment of this game was another suprise, and I loved it. This game is in no way predictable.

And to everyone who has an issue with Ellie's sexuality, keep it to yourself. I know it may be a suprise lesbians exist, but you'll have to deal with it. Anyways, why are you suprised? If you played the extra for tlou1, you would have already known Ellie was a lesbian. I personally loved this game. I would recommend it to anyone who loved tlou1. Most of the bad reviews are from those who 1) have not finished the game, 2) cant deal with Ellie being a lesbian, or 3) are die-hard fans of Joel. This game is brutal. But tough it out, you'll love it. Trust me, I had my doubts. I stuck through it though, and I'm so glad I did.

The work of art behind the story and gameplay it's incredible in The Last Of Us 2, the scenario are curated in every single details and it feels open, you never have the feeling of being in a tunnel, but more like you traveling in this post apocalyptic world.
You can feel everything that the protagonist feels during the events of the game with the animation and acting, you can fell a person in front of you and not just a character.

I never felt this while playing in a game.
Yeah, it isn't perfect like art is; some times the arms of the character stretch strangely for get an object behind you. But theres ****ty game like Skyrim and Fallout that gets ridiculous score with bug that make the game unplayable, and this one, that doesn't have nothing like that, it's treated like it's the worst game ever.

Buy this game if you can, look at the hand of Ellie during fights, look at the faces of your enemies and hear their scream of pain when they found someone of them dead on the floor; it feels real and this is never happen before in a game.

Great game. If you loved the first game, and hate this game, you should really take a look and think why. The main reasons many are upset, is the game doesn't go how they want, and you play women who do not quite match society norms. People who have reviewed the game who did not even play it through, especially those who did not play it at all have been unfair to it, and their reviews should be removed.

Maybe you just didn't like it for valid reasons, but that's the minority from what I've seen.

If you played it all and did not like it, you are entitled to your opinion, but those who have, and loved the first game, should consider that they may be taking a suck because people die instead of always magically surviving in a horrible harsh world, or just intolerant, sexist, and/or a keyboard warrior. The little details in this game make it great. They took some big risks in having you play a character who is a somewhat masculine woman. Good on Naughty Dog for challenging society norms. Things like armpit stubble on one of the female characters (who would actually be shaving regularly in this world?). One argument people use is "the game is too violent". Again, that is valid if you didn't play or like the first one. If you did, that's a horrible argument, it's very similar to the first game, where Joel murders tons of people, including innocent firefly's and essentially dooms the world for one girl. He just committed a planet to doom! I loved Joel but that is about the worst crime you could commit! The revenge against him was valid, but the cycle continued until both Abby and Ellie ended it. I will admit, there are times I did not like playing Abby. She is my enemy of course ! But you play on knowing there is a reason.

Just finished the game last night, and it was good, satisfying, and makes you think, just like the first game. Leaves the door open for more. Hope they do a part 3 once the keyboard warriors simmer down. They could wrap it up with a mission to find someone who could carry on the firefly work and make a cure, perhaps work it in that Abby's survival leads to finding this person, and cure due to Ellie's act of mercy (returning the favor from Abby).

I gave the first game 10/10, I give this one 9/10. I did miss Joel too, but as the game goes on, you realize he deserved what he got. If you put yourself in Abby's shoes, Ellie would have done the same thing as her!

    Slam dunk for Naughty Dog!

I think the hate this game gets alone proves the point that Naughty Dog knows how to toy with our emotions. I honestly don’t understand people giving this anything below 7 or what standard they hold for their games, and I will try to tell (without spoiling) why I think this is a masterpiece and a 10/10.

I think the hate this game gets alone proves the point that Naughty Dog knows how to toy with our emotions. I honestly don’t understand people giving this anything below 7 or what standard they hold for their games, and I will try to tell (without spoiling) why I think this is a masterpiece and a 10/10.

TLOU2 is a deserving sequel to one of the best games ever (in my opinion). The story follows the consequences of the first game in a very natural sense thats true to the world. The vicious nature is emphasized as we see that years of terrible actions actually have consequence. When we meet Joel and Ellie, they have settled for a peaceful life in Jackson and been living in this community for 4 years. They have both softened up, and abondened the murderous and evil ways from the first game which has dulled their senses and sets up the story of this game.

The gameplay is an absolute masterpiece if you love toying with AI, stealth-gameplay or appreciate light survival horror. The enemy design is varied and their tactics are diverse. The ways enemies hunt you down and talk to each other, makes you think quickly and improvise like no game I have played before. This is the good old days where a headshot actually is a headshot and your guns don’t need the right RPG-stats to finish the kill. Weapons and crafting works pretty much the same as the prior game, but everything packs a heftier punch than it used to. My jaw dropped the first time I saw what a well-placed trapmine could achieve in gore-terms alone.

The story isn’t an sprawling-across-the-country-adventure like the first, but I always felt like TLOU2 needed to do something different to engage, and that ND had to reinvent what made the first game click. After a hefty prologue, you set out to make your enemies pay, and after this the story has you in the palm of it’s hand. I will say that I also felt like the first half of the game has some severe pacing-issues, but with the exceptional story that follows and with the incredible replay-value the game has, this doesn’t feel like a problem by the time the credits roll. The story is packed with exceptional cutscenes that are of the haunting, heartwarming or cry your heart out-kind. They are incredibly acted and voiced, the animation is better than anything I’ve ever seen (at least in a game) and the score is more diverse this time provoking new emotions that you did not feel in the last game. Symbolism are both of the on the nose-kind, but I felt that there are even more of the subtle kind telling even more stories for those who are interested in really diving into this. Every scene feels mirrored at some point, and especially if you decide to play the game again, you will pick up on so much storytelling that flew you by the first time. I’ve seen alot of people complain about the game, but I feel like if you hate the ending, you are missing the point - and no it is not «revenge is bad», though this of course also is a theme of the game.

I think the game teaches alot about empathy and even more about the desperation of finding your place and your meaning in a meaningless world. For some it seems like it doesn’t work at all, but for me the ending hit like a ton of bricks.

I have seen alot about the diverse cast being some kind of «political agenda», but I don’t feel this. I just think they wanted diversity in characters, and in a fictional world this works with me and I think it’s cool to see those who seldom are represented in main-stream media be jampacked in this game.

It is annoying that I care so much about what other fans feel, but I am really frustrated by the backlash of this game. I think many will enjoy it if they manage to look past the massive hate from the community and other gamers before they are done. Since the story touches oh so much on what hate does to humans, I think many fans reactions is quite ironic, but thats just the way it is I guess.

All in all I think TLOU2 delivers a top quality game with a fantastic story, fun and intense gameplay and alot more replay value than the first one. It made me feel feelings I’ve never felt in a game and made me go into situations I were very uncomfortable with. As I stated, I feel like the first half is a bit long, but by the time you reach the end, it doesn’t matter to me because of the rest of the game.

If I managed to get ONE SINGLE person to play this, I am happy. I really love this game and think it is a masterpiece. Looking forward to talk about it in years to come :)

PS - I don’t think anyone who hates the game are transphobic or «doesn’t understand» or anything, but I would like to understand why it is so important to all of them to actively spread so much hate on the internet and come with threats of violence. That seems really unnecessary. Let’s discuss! Love every opinion as long as they are non-threatening :)

This game is pure art. I finished a while ago now and I can't seem to shake off the impressions the game left in me. Like others forms of art, it was made to make you feel. A LOT. Expect a moving story, skillfully told, and be ready to act in times where you'll just wish you had a chance to make different choices. A truly masterpiece. Thank you Naughty Dog.

Yes, the game's a masterpiece and the story is out of this world, but I almost wish I didn't play it. The whole game (and the whole plot of the story?) starts out with you trying to get revenge on Abby for what she's taken from you (Joel, Jesse, Tommy) but you let her f***ing get away with it all because ELLIES WANTS TO FORGIVE???
She was trying to forgive Joel for what he did back at the hospital with the Fireflies, and now she ends up trying to forgive Abby for taking her best friend and more...
To me it's fair that Abby wanted revenge, AND SHE F***ING GOT IT SO WHY DON'T ELLIE GET IT - god damn I hate this story.
Unlike part 1, I don't think I will ever replay part 2. It's just not worth it, there's no point

Second off I'm not a Last of us fan. The only reason I have the first game is because it came bundled with my PS4. I liked what I played of the game but I play games for the game play not the story. That's why I love Nintendo & especially Mario. You watch the setup for the game and then you just play. If I want to watch a movie I'll watch a movie. If I want politics I'll read or watch some politics. I could stand the story in The Last Of Us because it was hopeful & conveyed maternal male instincts & loss. I'm a father myself & I could feel for Joel. I did not finish the game because the game play just wasn't fun enough for me to get through it. The story was good enough for me to go online and youtube how it ended. So emotional impact for the original game 9/10. Yet for the Last Of Us 2 I can say that I feel Joel should have given her to the Fireflys and been done with it. (but that would have been out of character right?). The semi-open part of the game is the BEST. Killing the Whistlers are this games' Clickers. And that's just sad in it's own ways. When human characters are scarier than the monsters you're doing something wrong. If you could cut out the story and just play the game it's a 6 or 7/10.
I suggest you just skip all the cutscenes and dialogue if you want a good experience. There is no hopefulness or positive emotional impact in this game. Kills are cool. Music your typical horror fare. So blaaah! With the exception of acoustic moments. Note, I did not finish this game either. Was not fun enough to get me through with a story I wanted to keep skipping. Also I didn't pay for it because I borrowed it from a friend who doesn't want it back.

The last of us Part II.

This is an amazing game with a story of so much depth. The story makes the game so existential that it leaves a mark to its player. After completing and experiencing the prequel and Part II, it makes you contemplate the true essence of the lesson that this series wants to communicate. That's this game is a form of art unlike any other highly rated game.

The characters are well written but just not interesting and it doesn’t help that neither is the story. It all revolves around a certain event, as if the event itself is going to shape the whole story like the tlou1 did with Joel and Ellie’s relationship. It doesn’t. Before this game came out all of the previews and interviews made it seem like the story was going in a certain direction and it’s really disappointing the way it turned out. It would’ve been nice to something maybe a little more lighthearted especially with everything going on in a world where there doesn’t seem to be very much hope nowadays. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went into this with an open mind and no matter how much I tried this game just did not feel like I was playing The Last of Us at all. This is Part Two, the second half following an amazing first half. The only times I felt like I was playing The Last of Us was when there was a flashback between Ellie and Joel. That's when I was emotional and was invested in the story, getting lost in the flashback. We have this incredible ending to the first part, and it leaves you wondering- what happens to these two after this? Instead we're surprised with a new character who takes up half of the game with Ellie and Joel's relationship taking a back seat. The characters in the first game are so memorable, and have so much depth. The characters in Part 2 are forgettable, there are moments that they die and I don't even care about it. When Henry from the first game shot himself I was left in awe with my jaw dropped. The game tries to develop these new relationships, but the development is not there and it just feels forced or lacking. Abby and Ellie's timelines barely connect so when we switch to Abby it feels like I'm playing a completely different game with a character I find hard to like. I did not care at all for a chunk of her story being about a love triangle. At one point I asked myself "am I even playing The Last of Us?" It may have been more interesting if Abby and Ellie's stories connected more. Abby's part feels like a chore because I feel her backstory is pointless. I understand her motivations, I understand she is the human on the other side of bad things we've done as Joel, but I don't care about it- especially for 10 hours. I could never play this game a second time due to Abby's part. By the time we get back to playing as Ellie, I have such a complete disconnect from the game. It's like the game wanted me to somehow gather the same momentum and investment I had from Ellie's part that I played over 10 hours ago. I could go on and on but I just was really disappointed. I understand what they were trying to do, unfortunately for me, it didn't do anything for me. I understand people worked hard for years on this game, and the game looks great, the gameplay is fun, but the story- the most important part to me, and an important part in a character driven game, was not there for me. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off I just want to say never have I ever in my life been so angry to leave a review on a game. There are so many choices in the story that were made that literally butchered everything. I also want to make something clear. The fact that there is this thing happening to where if you don't like the game it's because you're a bigot or you have anything to do with LGBT is so annoying to me. Yes there are definitely people who are hating the game only for that reason but for me personally I absolutely do not care that they included that in the game. It does not matter because that is not what makes the story terrible to me. Now to get into the details here is my problem with the game and why I am so angry. First off why would they decide to use Joel as something to just further the plot and use him as a plot device. It is an injustice to his character whom which we all love. The only reason why that scene was heartbreaking at all is because it was a character we loved and had been waiting to see for 7 YEARS just taken away from us almost immediately. Other than that it was just so unemotional and there was nothing else that really made you feel in that moment. If they wanted to kill joel that badly then they shouldve done it differently and maybe i don't know wait a little bit before they killed him. Also what Nuaghty Dog seemed to forget is we wanted so badly to play as Joel and Ellie again and we all thought that that was what we were going to get but no we did not. It would have been way better if they killed Tommy and made Ellie and Joel go on the revenge spree if they wanted to keep that same storyline. Now getting in to the main game. I played as Eliie for so many hours thinking I was going to get revenge because in all honesty thats all I wanted. I did not feel a single drop of remorse any time we killed someone. Personally i don't know why naughty dog thought we would. And then at the end of the three days they ended up killing Jesse while then FORCING us to play as Abby, Joel's killer, FOR 10 HOURS was the most annoying thing ever that made me feel so damn angry. Throughout the time I was playing as her I treated it as a damn speedrun and it was just something I wanted to get over with. Not once throughout those 10 hours did I smile, laugh or feel anything for Abby. Why would they try to force her on us and essentially make us love her. I do not csre for her at all. So we go through all of that just so we can see her end up shooting tommy and Jesse and then the game does the 2nd worse thing in the entire game. THEY MADE US FIGHT ELLIE AS ABBY. Why on Earth would they think that was a good idea. Everytime Abby died i was legit just so happy with it and I wished that's where it ended. But no the game continued and I was so emotionally and physically drained. And then they show us Ellie and Dina living om the farm and i still could not even enjoy that. I was still so angry I could not even enjoy seeing Eliie happy. All I wanted was for the game to be over but no they still give us 3 more hours left to olay. I just ran through as much of it as I could. I did not try at all in the encounters I just did whatever I needed to. And now the the worse thing they decided to do was let Abby live. We did that dramatic fight scene just to feel so unsatisfied. Actually we played 30 hours just to feel unsatisfied. All for what, just to set up a third game that if we have to olay as Abby again most people are never going to touch it? Just to recap, We as players lost Joel, Ellie lost Joel, She also lost dina and her baby which was basically her family, Jessie died, Tommy got crippled and blind from one eye, and to top it off Ellie gets stuck with ptsd and has nothing in the end. Literally nothing. Meanwhile Abby gets to go live happily ever after with Lev. Why did they just get rid of all the characters we loved and make Ellie lost everything. If they were trying to send a message on how violence isn't the answer or revenge isn't that answer but yet Abby dedicated her whole entire life to getting revenge. Why does she get to get away with this and Ellie loses. Not only that , but it made no sense for Ellie to even leave Dina to go find her. You would think she'd just move on at that point. I would much rather have that happen then seeing Eliie literally lose everything and everyone while knowing Abby gets to go be happy. In conclusion that is why the storyline is absolutely garbage. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had never played the Last of Us but had heard good things about that game, so I didn't want to miss out on this one. Presumably there were a lot of folks like me who were expecting a similar experience. What we get instead is a hodgepodge game with no sense of direction and an overriding theme all the time - revenge! Both the protagonists on this game are so driven by the sense of revenge that it just gets tedious after a while playing this game. The only thing that kept me going was the urge to explore the world. Boy does the story and narrative make it hard to do that. All said, this game is definitely not a 10/10 as IGN's Jonathon Dornbush rated it. But it's not the worst either. The initial few hours are enjoyable, but once you start playing as Abby that's when things get bad. To me, RDR2 remains the gold standard when it comes to telling a story in a game. You could actually connect with the characters and that made the game so much more enjoyable. This game, not so much. So yeah, Naughty Dog, if you are reading this review, take this as feedback. It's not a bad game, it's just not the "masterpiece" IGN claims it is and which is probably what a lot of users were expecting too. Expand

The thing I've seen most from critics who give this a 1/10 is that a certain character dies too early, but that doesn't even register in the overall picture of what this game has to offer and shows that these people were either too shook to understand the story that follows, or never bothered to play it in the first place. And no, watching your favorite streamer play through TLOU2 is NOT a substitute for doing it yourself, you weirdo.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted to like Last of Us part 2 more than I did. The game has so much going for it. Beautiful graphics, excellent animations, talented actors, an almost perfect part one story and character development, an excellent composer. None of these were used to any great effect in part 2. The story in part 2 or maybe the storytelling completely missed the mark. If the main theme was to understand that heroes and good guys are matter of perspective the storytelling utterly failed. Had I been introduced to Abby before she killed Joel I could have grown to like her. Then maybe when she did kill Joel, I would feel conflicted instead of hatred and scorn. The first part did so well at making you care about characters despite how little time was given to their story. I cared about Sara, Sam, Tess, Henry before they were lost to the harsh reality of the apocalypse. When playing as Abby I just wanted to speed through the story. Seeing all the people and characters I killed as Ellie did give me a tinge of regret (side note, I avoided killing any dogs until was forced to kill Alice which was disappointing). But for Abby I felt nothing. Most infuriating, I had to play as Abby when fighting Ellie. Literally I was shaking my head and muttering to myself “No...” repeatedly. Maybe thats a testament to how good the story was in part 1 and how lacking it is in part 2. Great storytelling can humanize the worst of villains. I am sad to say, the storytelling so missed the mark that what’s great about this game is dragged down by the storytelling. I must say also I feel manipulated by the trailers that character swapped Jessy for Joel. I was already willing to believe Joey was dead and would only appear in visions but when that scene arrived, and Jessy appeared I felt cheated out of another excellent performance from Ashley and Troy. Visually this game is stunning. Gameplay it’s okay. Storywise it’s abysmal. Expand

The first one was amazing, not because of the gameplay, but because of the story. The story in the this is, well one of the worst stories I've ever played. Something happens at the start of the game which is the main plot of the game.it's just not a great opening. I'm sure you know by now you play as a different new character for half of the game, which pointless, this game could have been wrapped up in 6 hours or so. There's scenes that are just repeated and you have to go through them again and again and again. It really does break my heart to write this, but this is probably one of the worst story driven games I've played in a while, there's massive plot holes, unlikeable characters, in some areas it looks very cartoon like, i experienced a lot of bugs as well, it doors not opening, or doors being open but i can't continue the game. It's not a last of us game, the fact i paid £70 for the special edition shows how much i was looking forward to this game. It really has let me down, I'm so angry at naughty dog as they had so much potential with this but yet they decided to focus half of the game on an entirely different story line and going back and forth in time, it's hard to keep up. I replayed the first one at last five times. I've just completed now, and i will never play this game again. It's going straight on ebay. Hopefully can recoop some costs from it. Huge disappointment, Is it worth a play, probably if you like long winded, dragged out stories. I will say though the graphics are decent and the accessibility options are amazing, so hats off to them for that. I honestly do feel that's the only redeeming feature of this game. I wouldn't recommend buying it full price, when it goes on sale. 3/10 Expand

I hate how she does all these awful things throughout the game, and enjoys them and you’re expected to emphasize with her. The only reason I gave it a 2 and not a 1 is because the game is pretty. I loved the first game and the left behind dlc, but this was awful. They destroyed everything great about the first games story. The gameplay is a 9 but the story is a 0. Everyone plays the last of us for the story so I'm giving this game a 0. Will not buy another ND game again!

I really have no problems about Joel or what happens with him, nut I will always be pissed of when the marketing gives you something and when you are going to play, you just discover that what was sold out before was a lie, and like it is totally okay with it and being unethical with the players is not a big real. You don't want to give spoilers? Great! Just make the marketing in a different way, try to make it a mystery, give less information, don't show things and make people excited but don't lie and distort things. Shame! Despite that I cried with Joel dialogues with Ellie. Expand

What a beautiful and tragic game. The gamers who put a bad review did so just because the story didn't go the way they wanted, which is very unfortunate, and such a millennial thing to do. And even though it's a painful story, it's absolutely phenomenal, start-to-finish. Just finished it, and I'm starting a new game + now to experience it again. Bravo Naughty Dog.

The story of this game its real garbage, I mean really, the only reason that made tlou 2 sello so much was that it is "LGBT" and everyone was expecting a good game, not this **** the only good thing is the gameplay but the grafics had a huge downgrade and the Hall of the game your playing with a ****ty character that the game force you to simpatize with it but they never get it and the copy of the relationship of joel and ellie of aby and lev its just awful, and dont forget about the uncomftrable sex scenes Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m not even sure how to begin my review. I figured Joel would die at some point in the game but not like he did. The game took all the best parts of the first game and burned them in our faces. Joel and Ellie’s relationship isn’t there because you killed Joel off. The story of the game is based on revenge but there is little to non in the whole game. You spend the first bit just tracking Tommy and what he’s doing wishing it was you on that rampage. You make us play over half the game as the one character we hate the most. The fact Abby lives at the end and Ellie lost just about everything she cared about is one of the worst endings in all of my gaming history. Nothing was resolved at the end and there was no satisfaction in anything that happened as either character other than beating the crap out of Abby. In my eyes the whole game was boring and drug out as crap. I played it once and I’m probably going to sell it. Expand

This is a terrible game that has demonstrated that a big budget does not necessarily translate into a good game. Subverting expectations is more important than character or story arcs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Found this gem in a comment section: However I have to completely disagree about the game passing the message of "revenge destroys you" to the player at all. First of all, any time a character does a morally good action, the story punishes them for it (Joel saved a total stranger-> she kills him, Abby spared Ellie and Tommy->they come for her, ellie tried to get information from bf-dude and pregnant-lady without killing them->they try to kill her and she's forced to kill them). Ellie did indeed lose everything in her quest for vengeance and in the end did the morally right thing and forgave Abby, therefore forfeiting her revenge. Abby lost nothing in her quest for revenge and even accomplished it, most of her friends died at the hands of ellie in self defense and they weren't just innocent bystanders, they were accomplishes to Joel's murder, and in the end having satisfied her lust for revenge even gets a chance at redemption and a proper life in the form of Lev. So one of the characters gets her revenge, loses nothing to achieve it and in the end gets a chance at a new life while the other forfeits her revenge (having killed literally hundreds of unrelated people to get to that point), loses literally everything she has in the process and has absolutely no chance at redemption, having lost even her father's final gift to her (playing the guitar). If anything, the message I got was "seeking revenge or not, be as ruthless as you can be, lower your guard for no one even if they're tied up and at the point of a gun, leave no loose ends and never forgive", which I'm pretty sure is not the message ND intended, basically turning us all into tlou1's Joel, the guy they are trying so hard to frame as an irredeemable villain. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok so I'll start off with the good things it's beautiful , a very clean looking game, little games with the guitar and the snowball fights were fun, but I thk the best thing about this game was the flashbacks and if could guess why it's bc Joel and Ellie were together they had the bond with each other that's what I thk is the best part of it all. Now 2 the bad things Joel's death and I would have been ok with him dying but not like that they could have made a build up let u play as Ellie and Abby through the game without Joel dying but then at the end Abby kills Joel and then u hate Abby even after playing as her but u still had time with Joel before he died . But they kill joel like 2 hrs in and they make u play as Abby 4 10-12 hrs, yeah great move on them. They don't give anything new except 4 going prone. Everything bad happens 2 Ellie but Abby has everything compared 2 Ellie. Abby even gets better guns. And they try 2 make u sympathize 4 her and make u like her when her and her whole crew are boring af. Ellie lost everything by the end and u don't even get a choice 2 kill Abby. They put an unnecessary sex scene, and they r somehow aloud 2 put **** on the game when no other game can have a butt cheek out. The game is poorly paced and is so repetitive and boring. If I remember correctly I thk only 1 chick died and it was the pregnant 1, and she goes on missions with u with a baby, she's climbing things with a baby how dumb is that. Their is nothing 2 keep u motivated besides killing Abby in the end but u don't get 2 so yeah. The whole reason why You 1 was so good was bc of Why couldn't they at least gave us a choice, but now their gonna milk the series and im not getting the last of us or 3. This games story is predictable, poorly written and not believable in the slightest. U can hate me all u want but I don't give **** what u thk it's my opinion and 80% of everyone elses. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
