    Ok, here we go.
I loved this game. I know it is controversial, but it truly was amazing.
The combat in the game is so well done. The enemies have names, friends that call out, dogs that stay at their corpse until you come near, it’s unlike any other. Every shot counts, and the accessibility options are perfect in every way. Now here comes the plot. The plot and story is well executed.

The plot and story is well executed. Those who cannot keep an open mind and feel empathy towards the characters in the story will feel unfulfilled, but don’t judge it too harshly, because it really is an amazing experience.
Remember this overused but true line when you finish the game. “You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

Game mechanics got a deluxe upgrade from the first game while keeping the same uncomfortable and brutal feel throughout. It's never felt so good to shoot or hack and slash. The game challenges you, rewards you, nurtures you and tears you a part. The open word-esque map layouts were killer and extremely immersive. So many creative mechanics and cannot reccomend more. details are available to the players delight.

There were so many moments in the game where I was caught off guard or surprised by some action, in many cases shouting out loud or jerking back in my seat startled. I’ve never played a game that makes me feel this involved and part of the story.

This game is a sequel, the story had to do something drastic to not be too repetitive with the first game. I initially was not thrilled when I reached the “moment” in the game which I think the negative reviews are focused on, but as the game went on the more I enjoyed the story and the creative direction that the developer and game designers took. The game is definitely worth the purchase and play through. I intend to play through it again to find anything I missed the first time.

If there was one thing that could have been better is the gameplay controls, reloading with R2 is unusual. I usually reload guns with square. I also got tired of the infected encounters and the AI was not very smart. You could hide in stealth mode and 6 NPC’s would see dead bodies and walk right up to the same spot for an easy kill. I also don’t think it was smart for NPC’s to announce their moves “let’s push up, rush her, etc).

We can identify with the agenda simply because we can see ourselves making the same choices. In a world like The Last of Us there are no protagonists. As humans we can be flawed, insensitive, and selfish. Everything is perspective. Blind hatred and clouded judgment left Ellie with nothing; her trail of bodies didn’t break Joel back. As a result of her selfishness, she lost Dina too. She needed to forgive Joel. People had an agenda. They wanted the same game again. I’m sorry to disappoint. I loved this game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here's why, to me, this game is a masterpiece and even better than the first part in some ways :
First thing first, people got overcarried by the hate coming from the leaks, which were out of context. Now that the game is out and we have proper context to look into it all, it's obvious the writers knew perfectly what they were doing all along and it feels like a really well planned story. But of course some of those youtubers/influencers/whatever are just looking for easy views and bucks, and right now it means hating the game and follow what started with the leaks. You can disagree with the story of course, but not to the extent of sending death threats to the writers, or the actors. That's just wrong and childish, period. No one back then had proper context to judge the game.
Firstly, to me, the game honors Ellie and Joel bonds deeply : you can feel Joel's presence all the way during the first half of the game, and seeing how Ellie does take care of a whole militia brings back memories of how Joel would have done it. She has the same moves. She has the same way (and of course, you do as a player) of wiping enemies. At one point during the game Dina says to Ellie "where did you learn how to do that ?" and she answers "Joel taught me". This is a testimony of how Joel affected Ellie, and yourself as a player. The flashbacks are here to remind you constantly of that special bond. It culminates when Ellie tries to do the same map trick Joel taught her, but it backfires on her, because she's not him. And Ellie's own failures end up in killing a pregnant woman. That's why she hates Abby so much (who seems to be successful and invicible to Ellie at that point of the game - but of course she isn't given how she loses everything and how she ends up enslaved).
Secondly, people can't stand the fact Joel died. But Joel made that terrible choice at the end of the first game of saving Ellie at all costs. He put this on himself. And he then got soft because of the safety provided by Jacksonville and because of the redemption he found with having Ellie. You can feel it all the way during the prologue. They ALL got careless, forgetting how dangerous the world can be. There are tons of details for it : the reports on how many infected they killed during patrols (filled with smileys and jokes, even Joels after a while), the way they bring people in Jacksonville, Joels house (when you visit it, you can feel the guy has turned soft because he has Ellie in his life and he found redemption : he has an artistic soul again, given how much time he's been spending carving wood and playing guitar - things that felt meaningless to him in the first part - I couldn't believe Joel has such a sensitive soul inside given how he had to hide it all after what happened to his daughter and what he had to do to survive during those 20 years. But of course he had to switch off that survivor mentality for it).
Now about Abby (who also plays as a Moby Dick for Ellie until the end). First, the thing her dad says when he tells her he would do just as Joel to save her even if her death would prevent humanity for getting a cure was a way to tell her we all have flaws, and so does she as she was blinded by hate for Joel. Then, the game takes a huge turn when Lev and Yara come around, it takes a whole different step because ultimately, as she says, she chooses their side over the Wolves or the Scars. That's the defining moment (on the island) when I started really caring about Abby. What matters most is the individuals, not the group logic and systemic way of dealing with things (rings any bells to how people flamed this game despite having played it or explored it enough ?). You have to look into individuals and not judge them depending on which group they're a part of (and btw, Ellie comes to the same conclusion when she writes in her diary while in Santa Barbara : "Fireflies, Scars, Wolves... f*** them all" ; she's on the same mental process as Abby, Abby just being ahead a bit). That's a wonderful character development and morale. And btw : Abby DOES show remorse and is tortured by what she did. The nightmares didn't go away with Joel's death. And Laura Bailey plays it perfectly when she kills Joel : she has seconds of hesitation and you can feel her vulnerability. Of course she's too consumed by it to show it directly. And I like to think Yara and Lev is a way for her to find purpose again and to redeem for what she did.
The game doesn't give you anything easy and you actually have to dig deep into it to get your answers. You have to read diary logs, you have to listen to all of the conversations, you have to look into the environment to get it all. It doesn't treat you like a 5 years old, spoonfeeding you easy answers to make you feel better. I've never seen a game this detailed and well carved. I've never seen a game making me think over and over things, and to think about how we react as human beings.

Would I buy this game again if I could go back in time? No ...Would I replay this game? Again, No. After 7 years since part 1 was released, the story of part 2 proves to be a convoluted and distasteful roller coaster ride of emotions. ND forces you to play as the newly established antagonist, to empathize and bond with this stranger - only AFTER she kills the familiar and beloved Joel Miller. Adding insult to injury, Ellie goes on a killing spree to avenge Joel, killing hundreds of WLF soldiers/Scars - only to leave Abby (the character who fueled said killing spree) alive. I understand what ND was trying to accomplish in making this story - the idea that revenge is a vicious cycle that ultimately gets both parties nowhere, but the way that they executed that idea was heavily flawed. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played the game in it’s entirety and was left feeling confused. I loved the first game due to the story being a masterpiece in my eyes with others saying the same. I went in open-minded ready for how the beloved characters stories would evolve more and where this game would take me. Then Joel dies a character I’ve come to like a lot and the death is in a way where you feel both sad and angry, but after this the story becomes predictable and a bit cliche. My main problem with the game is how they try to demonize Ellie while making Abby ( a character you don’t like in the first place) good. Looking at both Ellie’s and Abby’s skills and weapons there’s quite a difference in the quality with Abby coming out on top. Then with little things like Ellie killing Mel with things like Ellie killing Abby’s dog and Mel who happened to be pregnant. I don’t understand why things happen the way they do. I played the entire game at least trying to get revenge and even that was taken away from me . The only thing keeping the game from a lower score is the gameplay improve ment . Expand

I wanted to start with the good parts. The graphics and mechanics are incredible, and I'm glad they added LGBTQ in the game, big heads up for that. Now we took care of the good, let's get into why the game is horrible. The story was pure crap. It all felt rushed and not well thought out. The reason players loved The Last of Us 1 was because of the relationship between Ellie and Joel. But here on the Last of Us 2 they killed Joel to early in the game, and in a very humiliating way, which left me and alot of other players very confused. Also the new characters like Abby and Dina felt rushed. The chemistry between Dina and Ellie just didn't exist, and the Devs also tried to FORCE you to like the character Abby. I went in blind, never watched the spoilers, didn't stayed on the internet much before it's release, and as soon as I finished it I wanted to talk about it so badly, so naturally, I went to Reddit and oh my god I couldn't believe what the heck happened because personally I really loved the game and everyone seemed to hate it.

Now one week later, as more people actually played (or watched walkthroughs on youtube) the game, I noticed more and more positive feedback as each day passed, predominately on the PS4 sub and the main TLOU one, also the Metacritic score raised up to 5.0, from a 3.2, leading me to believe that the initial reaction was mostly composed of online troll with nothing better to do. That's not to say that there aren't persons who genuinely don't like the game, but usually, they came in as more civil and respectful to other's opinions.

From a technical point of view for me this game is a marvel, from graphics and sound design to incredible attention to details it's just perfect. I didn't enjoy so much the gameplay of a game in a long time, HZD was the last game I think to leave me in a state of "wow this **** is so fun". Regarding performance, I don't understand how they did it but the game runs even smoother than Uncharted 4 for me, as with that game I witnessed a few nasty fps drops a couple of times, here I didn't encounter any sequences with noticeable frame rates drops. I play on a ps4 slim from 2017.

With that said I really loved the story as well, the (big spoilers ahead) midway switch to Abby clicked with me, eventually, I ended up liking her, by the final chapters I was seriously hoping Ellie won't kill her, not only because I liked Abby and Lev as characters, but because it would mean the definitive downfall of our protagonist in my opinion. The sudden pop of Joel's memory as she was suffocating Abby to death was a representation of how Ellie acknowledged that she was using revenge as a coping mechanism to escape guilt because she didn't make amends with Joel before he died, killing Abby wouldn't fix her issues on the long run. And I think at that moment came some great character development for Ellie, as it takes great willpower to control your rage and spare the murderer of your beloved in an attempt to move forward and heal. So for me, the ending was actually bittersweet, touched by a note of hope, showing us that the main theme was actually forgiveness. Maybe it hit me differently because I'm trying to leave aside my toxic "solutions" and attitude towards some personal issues I have

All in all, this is a 10/10 for me, the pacing at times could have been better, but other than that it's a really good game. Definitely a must have at least when it's on sale.

A brilliant companion piece to the first classic to bring the story full circle.
As for the negative reviews giving 1 star. Let's dissect that for a minute. These reviews are saying this game, it's graphics, gameplay and story are one of the worst games ever made? It's laughable so you can happily ignore those reviews. They're from trolls who haven't even played the game because let's face it, why would someone spend 30 hours of their life playing a game they thought was one of the worst ever made.
This game's story, among its many themes, is about choices and their consequences. Naughty Dog has made a game that forces you to play through the consequences of those choices which carry over from the first game and they're confronting. It just takes a little emotional intelligence, emotional maturity and empathy to appreciate the wrenching experience they've achieved in this game. Unfortunately trolls don't have those traits and are doomed to spiral down a path of hate that will only damage themselves. Ironically, if they played the game, they just might learn that.

Story wise, part 1, featuring Ellie, is enjoyable and her flashbacks with Joel and other people are sad and interesting to watch. Do pacing issues exist? Yeah, 100%, but for me, I don't think it took away from the game itself. Part 2, featuring Abby, was interesting. I didn't feel motivated to play the game for a few hours, but eventually, I started to dig into her story and enjoy it. I would say the second half of the Abby portion is more intriguing than the first half.

Great game, glad I bought it and purchased it, and highly recommend it to other people.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was just incredible. It was a heartbreaking, but foreseen event of Joel’s death in the near beginning. The game is a tale of revenge. Ellie seeks out the bad guy(girl) in here eyes which is Abby, to get revenge for killing papa Joel. Tommy is down to help, but decides to leave and do it himself, so you’re trying to find him and Abby and deal with things. Things went for a turn about halfway through the game when you get to see things from Abby’s eyes. Getting to see her story and WHY she sought out Joel in the first place. Seeing her relationships before things took a turn for the worse. All in all it ended fairly well, and still had me ready eyed when she picked up the guitar and thought of Joel one last time before leaving it behind. I will start my second play through tomorrow to get the rest of the trophies. 8/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I had heard a few plot point leaks prior to the release, but that did not stop my enjoyment of the game.
The Story for me was 10/10 and perhaps the most ambitious and heart-wrenching narrative in any video game that I have played. I understand that for some people some of the narrative choices made are irredeemable, but to get the most out of this game you have to be willing to empathise and forgive, just as readily as you hate the characters.

If you go into the game expecting a safe sequel for the first game this is not what you are going to get. The world naughty dog created is brutal and the story and gameplay reflect this. At the beginning of the game, the realistic violence can leave one with a sense of glee ( who doesn't find it funny blowing up a guy and watching him disappear in a cloud of mist), but after a while, after killing dogs, listening as the friends of the enemies you kill scream out their fallen comrades names you start to feel disillusioned with the character's righteousness. By the end of the game I was begging Ellie to end this revenge; no game has ever made me feel like this, not since the first the last of us.

Abby's section of the game is genuinely one of the best, once you start to accept her. There was an initial slog at the beginning of her first day, but once you get captured by the seraphites she really comes into her own, and has some of the best set pieces and gameplay moments in the whole game. The stalker fight in the forest, all of day 2 and the scouring of the seraph island were perfection.

Overall a 10/10 game, well worth the seven year wait.

If you pay attention to what's going on and don't reject it because you dislike what happens at the start with Joel's death, you'll see that the game actually does a great job of telling an unconventional and uniquely structured story that IS good. People who only took away 'revenge bad' from the ending have missed the point. It becomes clear through flashbacks from the end that Ellie hates how she treated Joel and hates that she wasted the years that she had left with him since she was never able to forgive what he did, so acted out over the course of the game to take revenge. The game is not about revenge, it's about Ellie forgiving people - Abby and Joel - and moving forward, realising that it just is not worth it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After finishing this game for nearly 30hrs since day 1 I would say its a roller coaster experience. I never felt so emotionally drained after finishing a game. Everything was going great until you had to play as Abby, it just felt so wrong and forced. I understand what naughty dog is trying to do here but it just didn't happened. I never felt connected to Abby even they let us see her own perspective they even try to make Ellie's group look as the bad guys. I admire their courage to try something new or different though. Lastly after everything Ellie's have done she just let her go, its like a slap on my face but in my own view i think its still the best approach at that kind of situation but it could be a much better ending if Ellie didnt go after her in Santa Barbara. At times, the pacing of the game sucks too. I think its unfair to the developers to give such a very low rating given everything else was a masterpiece, from graphics, combat & gameplay. Aside from the story, my only complain is the repetitive QTEs. Overall its such a wonderful gaming experience. It was so brutal and ruthless! Some of the reviews are obviously bogus no one can finished the game right after its release. Maybe they're just bandwagons who saw the leak. Expand

In fact, TLOU2 might even be better than the first one.

To say "I loved this game" is probably a poor way to phrase it - because, wow, this game is so bleak and violent. The excellent non-linear storyline does a great job at showing both the humane and inhumane sides of the main characters. The graphics and sound design are both incredible too. I also wished to have a happy ending for these characters that we cared so much in Part One.. Its not what I expected but have never, ever experienced such an emotional roller coaster during a video game. I personally think the story matches this cruel world, and another happy ending as we had in Part One would be unrealistic. The story is written extremely well, so good, that the story transfers feelings, exactly as in Part One. Everything else, Sound Design, Art (Characters, Environment), Actors, Soundtrack, VFX, Gameplay, AI, Programming is very well done and as a creator (game artist) I would say that its unfair to give "0" ratings just because the story was "bad" or just not as someone would have expected it. I think Naughty Dog and every included Outsourcing Company put a lot of love in this project and I hope we'll have more experiences in the future that transfers feelings so good through the medium of a video game.

That being said even though I have mixed feelings about this particular sequel, overall after having played through it, I believe it is a worthy followup to the original. For those who hate the game, I get it and I truly understand your feelings. But putting ones personal feelings aside, one has to look at this game realistically and objectively. Anyone who played the original game understands that coming into this one that there would be consequences for the choices Joel made at the end of Part 1. To think that in this sequel Joel would not face the repercussions of his actions in some way shape or form and that this would be simply copycat of the original is borderline naive to say the least and it would have made for an unrealistic and uncompelling story. Is this a happy, feel good sequel? Not by a long shot. But I respect Naughty Dog for not doing fan boy service and for having the courage to craft a story and game that challenges player's beliefs emotionally and philosophically .
