The game is awesome! Passed it in one breath. I want to note that there is NO propaganda of homosexuality. The plot is really far from the atmosphere of the first part, but with its unsurpassed chips and unique gameplay. If you cast aside all your prejudices, then you will get unforgettable pleasure from the passage. I strongly recommend it to everyone!

The game is huge and in a technical section it is brutal, beyond the forced situations of the characters in terms of inclusion, the story is very good and knows how to play with you, an emotional experience that made you feel something, whatever you say.

The game was fun, the story was ok, the fighting was fantastic and the horror was immense, let down by being slightly too long - the baby parts would have worked better if we JUST had her flashbacks, its worth a play, an overall great game but not as classic as the first one

the graphics and game mechanics are great. the story and characters have been implemented very, very well. don't listen to the hater but make your own picture. Worth it! I warn here again about spoilers! So don't read on if you haven't finished the game.

The story is amazing. told very emotional and great.

Many complain about Joel's death. but I think his part is just finished. he is old and has told his story. I also found it appropriate to play Abby, because you could see everything from her perspective and understood why she did it.

this gives the story a moral struggle. on the one hand you want to kill with ellie Abby on the other hand you want to keep abby alive. Abby is actually very emotional and personable. it was very hard to see them fighting ... mega! i can't understand the hatred for abby. all this hatred of abby and the developers are not good. let people live as they want!

thank you for this game, thank you for this experience.

The way this game made me go from loathing Abby to, at the end, begging the game to let me not fight or kill her is really a master class in story telling. 10/10, the only negative is that sometimes the game play elements are too long. Before attempting to review this game, I'd like to say that The Last of Us is my favorite game of all time.  I have various collector’s editions, copies of the game for both consoles, and posters on my wall.  I admit my bias from the outset.  I also admit to never wanting a sequel because I was afraid that nothing would live up to the original.

    Graphics:  10/10
I’m not sure anyone can objectively state that the graphics are anything short of spectacular - easily one of the best-looking games of this generation.  On my PS4 Pro, the game ran at a smooth 30FPS @ 4k resolution; however, I recall two moments during my first play-through where I noticed a slight frame-rate slowdown.  Neither of these were during action sequences and were only slightly noticeable, so the game gets a pass from me on this.

If the environment isn’t enough to justify the score, then consider the motion capture and facial animations.  You can feel the emotions of every character - something this game demands as part of the story.  I’ve completed two full play-throughs and replayed various chapters.  Last night, I loaded up The Last of Us Remastered for comparison.  The improvements are remarkable (I should note it that TLoU was a PS3 game originally).

    Sound:  10/10
Again, I’m not sure how anyone can consider the sound and music as anything short of phenomenal.  Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker return as Ellie and Joel.  As expected, they have unforgettable performances.  In additional to their vocal performances, each were called upon to sing multiple songs in character and adding new depth to their characters.  Does Laura Bailey (Abby) ever give poor performances?  If she does, it wasn’t in this game.  Victoria Grace (Yara) and Ian Alexander (Lev) are fantastic additions to the cast.

Gustavo Santaolalla returns to the series with another wonderfully atmospheric soundtrack.  Bottom line - if you like the music in the first game, then you should love it in this one.

    Story & Replayability:  10/10
The Last of Us Part II is like nothing that I have ever played.  It is highly emotional and thought provoking journey.  I’m a middle-aged man, and I have no problems telling you I cried like a baby multiple times during this game.

This game isn’t for everyone.  If you are looking for pure fun, which many argue is the point of video games, this may not be a title for you.  If you aren’t willing to reflect on the journey once it is over, this may not be the game for you.  If empathy or putting yourself in someone else’s shoes is not your thing, this may not be the game for you.  If you knew what you wanted out of Part II before its release, it may disappoint you.  If you come in expecting more of the same, you may not like this game.  The writers and developers told the story they wanted to tell - whether or not that is what you wanted.  I appreciate their fortitude.

In terms of replayability, I find this to be even more subjective than the story.  There is no doubt in my mind that some people will enjoy this game, but never want to play it again because the story is so emotionally intense.  Others, like me, will play this game repeatedly.  For me, the game would be worth the $60 price tag even if I only played it once.

    Summary
Let me get straight to the point - I have a new favorite game of all time, and it is The Last of Us Part II.  Frankly, don’t care if it is a popular opinion or not.  Art is subjective.  If you elect to play the game, just be sure to finish it before casting your final judgement.

Don't lie in the trailer: Joel's line "Do you think I'd let you do this by yourself" never made it into the actual game. I don't need to say anything else.

Don't make a game about vengeance and violence if you're going to skip the part trauma part. In interviews that surfaced after the release of the game Neil mentioned removing some scenes that explored Ellie's PTSD because "it didn't fit into the flow of the game" and that's honestly idiotic. The game has 28h+, it's split in two halves and it has lots of flashbacks. There was enough time to do character development right. If you think showing trauma ruins the rhythm of your game then you shouldn't tell these kinds of stories @Neil.

Not exploring Ellie's trauma and doubts better made this a very tone deaf game. So she's fine murdering dozens of people who have nothing to do with her quest for revenge and only struggles with the ones that do? This should've been explored way better. There were some entries in her journal that somewhat tapped into that, but not near enough. This is honestly something that should've been "show not tell".

Anyways, even with all those problems it's still fun to play and that's honestly what I look for in games. I've played and enjoyed games that have worse stories.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I came into this game know full well the controversy following it, what with the leaks and all. I was always going to play this game regardless of reviews, cause normally I don't pay them much attention. Alas, here we are and I'm leaving a review.... oh how the mighty have fallen...ANYWAYS lets get into the game. coming off of what was maybe Naughty Dog's most successful endeavor (aside from uncharted I guess).

I came into TLOU2 with high hopes that were deflated partially due to what I found out in the leaks however, I wasn't going to let that stop me from still experiencing it first hand. If I was going to be disappointed I wanted to be absolutely sure. As I played thru the first few hours I enjoyed the gameplay, the graphics, the beautiful scenery, hell I even enjoyed picking up the collectible cards that had super heroes on them. The accessibility options for the game are top notch. But this damn story!!?!? just all over the place. Ellie is demonized while were forced to try and empathize with Abby, who is no saint whatsoever by the way. actually her arc is already finished within the first few hours of the game! she gets exactly what she wants in a most convenient fashion. and just when you think you get to exact your revenge.... We are treated to 12+ more hours of why we should all respect this other character and demonize Ellie for......well for essentially killing a dog, in which we had no choice cause it was literally self defense, and well... there wasn't any other choice. skipping to the ending where as I played I felt like I had about 3 false endings... Ellie still cant cope and HAS to exact revenge...........but nahhhhhhhhh. just as you feel like, here it comes, here is the revenge literally EVERYONE is waiting for.......flop, she allows Abby to sail off into the mist while she gets to return to NOTHING! (and a few less fingers). and thats it. she cant even play her guitar anymore so she just leaves it and walks off to hell who knows after that butchered story most likely walk herself into a room full of clickers......Garbage Storytelling!

and no... i'm not a close minded bigot of any sort. My problems don't have anything to do with the inclusion of LGBTQ characters. it's the **** job they did trying to justify half of the characters who were just as bad if not worse than Joel, Ellie, or Tommy. they spent so much time trying to make Abby likable and at no point does that ever resonate. i found myself wanting to know more of the seraphites and the prophet more than anyone else in the game. yet their abandoned and just labeled as crazy bigots.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I remember being excited for this game when it was announced at e3 years ago. When the delays happened I kept telling myself don’t worry they’re just making sure everything is perfect I trust them to have it. I was so wrong. There was lots of weird bugs in my play through like fighting against invisible clickers or falling through the map. I can’t believe that would occur for something delayed so much. Gameplay, graphics, and music were all great as you’d expect from a Last of Us game. After seeing the death of Joel and just seeing the ending I couldn’t believe that after all Abby put Ellie through and all Ellie did to people, was all a waste. It made me think what if Ellie was killed by Abby? Would Joel just let Abby go? I doubt it . Honestly Ellie’s character was so irritating in this game. I like to think that the Ellie from the first game isn’t the same as this one . This is such bad writing ! REVENGE BAD ! Sounds like the answer to the question : what the theme of the book you read? From a freshman who didn’t actually read the book but just wanted to say some basic barebones theme and hope it’s right. I am glad I gameshared this one . Pure trash. Expand

Great graphic and map design, vividly demonstrate the environment in the apocalypse, while it fails to make the story right, this is a game, not a movie, players need to emerge in it and play as the character, so forcing the players to be as one that they don't want to be is totally unacceptable. I don't know that I should play an antagonist for almost half of the game. Which made me mad, but this game didn't give me any choice, I could not force Abby to be killed and say: Voila, here's my ideal happy ending. I feel not respected as a player who highly expect to have a good experience with Ellie during the journey. This sequel ruins every expectation I have toward the title, and I know they do it in purpose. Expand

I get the story and understand Abby's want for revenge. My only issue about the story is how Joel is played out as some horrible man who selfishly took Abby's dad and prevented the potential for a vaccine. A man who, selfish or not, prevented the fireflies from killing Ellie without her consent. Yeah she's mad because she would've sacrificed herself for the cause, but that doesn't change the fact that they had decided her life for her. What's the point of saving humanity if humanity doesn't care about you? No say in the matter regarding your own life. No last words. No farewells to the guy who just went through hell to get her there. And there's Ellie. A girl who tried so hard to build a relationship with Joel despite his efforts to keep it strictly professional. She slowly won him over. Even ran off and made a huge scene when Joel got Tommy to agree to take her. Made him guilty that he was abandoning her and didn't care. Refused his offer to turn around. Said they could go wherever he wanted afterwards. Showed no signs of wanting to die. She won his heart, someone was going to just end her life without any say, and she hates him for it? That's brutal. I understand Abby's anger because it was her father, but she gave her blessing to her dad when he couldn't answer the question if he could decide that for his own daughter. This is a story justifying their revenge and trying to convince you that they're better. All while discrediting the actual good that Joel did. If their actions are justified because Ellie would've agreed, why couldn't they wait one damn day to sit down with Joel and Ellie to discuss this? You know, instead of deciding her fate like it's ok because it's for the "greater good" Based off the responses from the new Abby fans, this game has taught me that if an outbreak like this ever happened and you find out you're immune, don't tell anyone if you want to live. Too many people are ok with killing you without say to save their own life. Expand

The devs basically hate the fans of the first game, you don't want to know what they did to the characters in the first game! Also they do things out of characters, making it seems like they are either forgotten or rewritten just to get the 2nd game released. Rushed out of the market too.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. They had 7 years to write and figure out AT LEAST a DECENT send off to one of the game's most loved characters and protagonists. Heck, they had 7 years to come up with anything they wanted. Instead, they gave us this trashpile of a storyline where Joel dies like an incompetent boy-scout on his first day out basically shutting his brain off and not acting like we know he would by breaking his own rules. Then, we have to play for what it felt like an eternity with MA'AM (whom we could care less about tbh) and go through a lot of unnecessary things that are forgettable at best. When we FINALLY get to the end, you give us some stupid excuse for why Ellie doesn´t complete her revenge journey. WHAT IS THIS?! These characters are making the stupidest and most non-sensical decisions ever! They're not acting in the way they would if someone competent had written the story!

The only reason this is getting 4 of 10 is because the game actually runs (despite some glitches every now and then) and the graphics and sound and what not.

Since the loss of Amy Hennig & Bruce Straley from Naughty Dog (you can read about the in studio conflicts online) their games have not been as industry leading as they once were. Naughty Dog was the biggest jewel in Sonys crown but I’m worried the studio is now on a terminal decline.

I believe Sony were planning on releasing this game at the end of the PS4s time, mimicking the first games release at the end of the PS3s, this gave a massive boost to the new PS4. With this game, it is a massive falter on the eve of the PS5 launch. Combined with other questionable company decisions, the PS5 will have an uphill battle against a resurgent Microsoft. I’ve owned every Playstation console and have never really enjoyed the Microsoft offerings as much, but am considering switching platforms for the next generation. Can a game be that bad that it destroys a studio and looses an entire console generation? Only time will tell.

Instead of building off of that, Naught Dog went in a completely random direction and ignored everything that the players loved originally.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Other than the lush environments and character models, every charming detail that made us fall in love with the first game just isn't here. There are no interesting NPCs, no comic relief and every note and artifact you pick up feels pointless and fails to tell a story (nothing close to the quality of Ish's story in the first game).

Joel, Ellie and Tommy have had drastic changes made to their characters without any logical development to suit the narrative of the game. Joel, who was once the most cunning and resourceful of all characters is now gullible and plain dumb, as is his brother. The two of them walk into a blatant trap, unarmed with complete strangers, resulting in Joel's death, for the sole purpose of pushing a lacklustre plot and unbelievable story. Ellie, who was by far my favourite character from the first game has not one line of interesting dialogue, nor any level of decent character development throughout the game.

This is a long game that is largely rammed with filler - jumping back and forth between plots that are riddled with flashbacks and dreams within flashbacks within other flashbacks. It makes the story feel disjointed and without a clear purpose. It's the epitome of bad storytelling, and frustratingly the game forces you to switch protagonists when it's finally finding any sort of rhythm - thus killing all tension and demolishing the story arc in one fell swoop.

You proceed to play the second half as Abby (Joel's murderer) for nearly half of the game, doing nothing but completing side quests and being subjected to soppy and cringey cut scenes, in what feels like the most unwanted DLC in the history of gaming. It's nothing but a lazy attempt at making you feel empathy towards the new characters without writing them into the game properly in the first place. Sorry, but getting raw-dogged in the back of a yacht in a creepy aquarium just isn't going to cut it. In fact, I spent more time during my play through finding new satisfying ways to kill Abby as brutally as I could than I did trying to finish it.

If I could choose to go back and not play it, I would. Even after 25-30 hours of playing the story, somehow, amazingly, no progression is made at all, nothing changes and by the end the message sent to the player is that the whole play through wasn't worth it in the first place - the only sentiment from the game that I wholeheartedly agree with.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Alright, let’s see what was the problem here. The gameplay is great. It’s one of the last PS4 games due to the coming of the PS5 by the end of the year. I understand people being upset with this game. I myself got really upset at some points but definitely it doesn’t deserve a 0, 1, 2 as a score nor a 10 or a 9. This game sold fans that we were having a new adventure with the duo we all love Ellie & Joel. A lot of us played the first game long time ago therefore it was exciting to think of it. But somehow and that is totally comprehensive the writers decided to go other way. Joel the protagonist of the first game gets killed in a gruesome way at a few hours of just start playing. Later the attitude of Ellie is rude with the people that care about her. I loved this character Dina she was great but the attitude of Ellie wasn’t the best towards her. So later after some hours of play through the game switches to Abby... this character which is responsable of the death of Joel. I felt that this was done with the intention of emphasizing with Abby but she just killed a character we all loved. At this time we don’t care what could she have done. But the game makes you play as her for a long time. This could have been a great adventure killing Joel was unnecessary if you ask me but if the writers wanna do it that way it’s fine I just think that the could have take it totally different maybe the story of Ellie and Dina that happens due to other circumstances...
The story is really dramatic and depressing to be honest. Ellie loses everything at the end and Abby doesn’t lose anything. Ellie loses two of her fingers, Jessie, Tommy, Dina & Joel... and man when the credits rolled I felt really, really sad. I didn’t want an end like that... I rate this game a 7 because it has good gameplay and at the end I guess It fulfilled its purpose which was make me sad... I cried. Those flashbacks with Joel just broke my heart. So I guess that was an intention. But making us play as Abby... I felt it offensive and unnecessary

This game is difficult, not only to rate but to get through in general, the gameplay along with the animations are 10/10 and the pinnacle of the industry. The story however is where it immensely falls off, it’s not necessarily hot garbage but it’s pretty damn close. To take the characters we love and spent a whole game with and treat them like this is one of the most pointless and colossal **** ups I've ever seen. You could have taken it in any other possible direction and it would have been better than what we got. I didn’t even want to finish this game I had no drive no motivation and still don’t understand how you expected to introduce new characters have them kill our old characters then force us to play over half the game as them. It was a struggle to get through and I have no intentions of playing it again Expand

But come on, after losing sarah, ofcourse Joel will save Ellie even the cause is making the vaccine, they travel half across the country together. Joel didn’t deserved to die like that. FOR ME THE LAST OF US end in the part 1. Expand

This is a game about the importance of having the patient sign an informed consent form before performing any procedure on them.

Some flaws in the story, but at the same time a meaningful and personal experience. No light, just a spiral of rage.
In technical and playable aspects is outstanding.
I don't know if a second part was needed, but i know its a story worth telling.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The only part I hated in TLOU2 is the unskippable scene where you have to kill a dog (Alice). I was doing a "No killing dogs" run and that particular scene ruined it. I hated that scene so much, but at the same time, I thank Naughty Dog for making me feel human emotions once more. TLOU2's story is so full of emotions. I absolutely loved it especially the ending. They really showed us what will happen to a person if they let themselves be consumed by vengeance. Very tragic, all will be lost. I also loved that scene where Mel told Abby that she's a **** person then Abby started to cry. That particular scene told us that even a strong person has their own weakness and fear. Not to mention they even gave Abby a phobia. Naughty Dog really gave each of their characters a life. As for the gameplay, I love how they turned us against our beloved character. It's not forced tbh, in fact it is a new experience. The encounter with Uncle Tommy while I play as Abby is really terrific! Now I know the feeling of the NPCs whenever I annihilate all of their team mates lol And Ellie as a boss?!!! they really showed us how dangerous Ellie can be. That boss fight gave me mixed emotions and I'm really glad Naughty Dog gave me that experience. I doubt I'll ever experience the same to other games. An absolute great game! Expand

Horrible story after the first game, the gameplay is average for gaming these days, I won't give it high just because of how the gameplay SHOULD played out especially for 2020. My day is ruined after finishing this game. Believe me, these ratings that gave a high score is an absolute joke.

A fine example that a perfectly constructed game can be ruined by a terrible terrible story.

Being a The Last of Us fan, I found this sequel genuinely incredible. In Naughty Dog fashion, my jaw was on the floor with every cutscene and twist in plot. I loved the depth of characters and Naughty Dogs implementation on social topics. It was riveting for me. I don’t give it a 10 because the gameplay got minimally repetitive but also I’ve never played a more glitchy game In my life.Being a The Last of Us fan, I found this sequel genuinely incredible. In Naughty Dog fashion, my jaw was on the floor with every cutscene and twist in plot. I loved the depth of characters and Naughty Dogs implementation on social topics. It was riveting for me. I don’t give it a 10 because the gameplay got minimally repetitive but also I’ve never played a more glitchy game In my life. Entire textures and levels would disappear and some models would be glowing neon pink at times. It never interfered with the game (thank god). It’s not a perfect 10 in my book because of the glitches, but with such innovative detailed environment design and one of the most ambitious games in the last decade, any tall order like the magnitude of creating a sequel to The Last Of Us is going to have its shortcomings for any AAA studio. It’s a “must play” game for sure. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love my playstation, and i have been using playstation brand for almost 20 years and of course i love naughty dog for bringing masterpiece games for playstation users for a decade. I dont know how many times i have finished last of us part 1. I bought it for both ps3 and ps4. Also bought all the uncharteds for both ps3 and for ps4 again. I put this information right here to show that i am in love with what naught dogs make.

Last of us part 2 is a marvel on technological level. Every minute of it on my screen looked astonishing. Details are over the charts. It might be the most "quality" game ever. I liked the half part of the story too. I love Joel but he had to go. He was a villain in the first game and he still was a villain in the second game. He doomed humanity for his selfish agenda. So no i am not mad about Joel dying in a gruesome way. I am mad about naught dogs trying to lecture us with its agenda. I dont play games to listen to your agenda no matter which which part you are serving. It is a 10/10 game but i am giving it a 5 so that naughty dogs might see that we are not buying their products to listen to their real life politics.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
