    This game completely dishonours the characters of Joel and Ellie, and everything else that was beloved about the story from the previous game. The developers intentionally made the game as torturous to play as possible. The graphics are average and the gameplay is unoriginal.     Was a fan of the first one and was really waiting for this one to come out, gave it the benefit of the doubt even with all the leaks coming out.

    The only thing i liked about this game is the visuals and graphics. Years of development and you would think that the game play would improve a lot but the only thing they added was a jump button and a dodge.     So after all the hype I was expecting a spectacular game it was a complete let down. I really dont see where all these people crying about this game. It was a over all bad game. I must say that the graphics are great but there are alot of other games with better graphics. There was no reason to play Abby it was not integral to the games plot.     Overall the story was written like someone who was wrote a college essay last minute, extremely sloppy. It tried so hard to be different and speak on social issues which was great but came across as trying too hard and in the end was just an utter embarrassment of a game. Little to no enjoyable parts, it became very redundant.

    An amazing sequel and a game that you have experience. Be warned though that this game is not easily digestible. There is no fun in the traditional sense. There are no heroes in the world of the last of us.

    I had loved the first one - This one goes beyond. It's visceral and you're gonna be tapped to your sofa for the 25-20h needed to compleet the story.
    The best PS4 game made ever (and I'm a fan of TW3 which is completely different by the way). I really don't understand at all the bad critics from users, the story is jsut insane and most of all the way they make you live it is just mindblazing.

    I can only talk about this game in superlatives. There is no word, that how grateful I'm for the Naughty Dog to put this incredible effort to create even the tiniest details and drop my jaw everytime when I play this unbelievable adventure. This game is worth even way more money than It costs. Thanks again for this great experience!

    Best technics for a game, you can feel tension when shooting starts and maybe first time in gaming history we can say that acting is perfect. Even NPCs have life and you can understand that in their reactions. Game story is good, it gave the chaotic world's situation very well. There is not bad or good but gray. Must play

    The narrative of this game is like a tobacco company preaching about the bad effects of smoking. The level of gore, violence and torture is insufferable and thats what makes this game a money maker. Yet the game somehow wants to teach you after long hours of non ending violence, that violence is bad. This is like a porn movie trying to teach people about celibacy.

    This is one of the stupidest narratives I've ever encountered in gaming and the way they pull it off makes it even dumber. The game thinks its smart and hypocrites might think it is.(Like its totally cool to kill hundreds of ppl in this game in some of the goriest ways imaginable because this game is against violence.) But in reality it is a tribute to violence, a wolf in sheeps clothing.

    The graphics, animation,sound and acting is amazing though. So it's like Speed Racer or Tron:Legacy. A visually stunning product without any merit to its core.

    But you can certainly enjoy the game if you dont give a **** about in game characters and the stupid narrative pushed on you and you embrace your inner psycho.    … Expand

The gameplay was what you would expect after playing the first game. What really let the game down was the overall story Joel’s death was completely understandable however it was the disrespectful way in how they had Joel die is what has angered me and the people as they absolutely ruined a beloved character through having him make a stupid decision which was so out of his character which just doesn’t add up. The ending was also extremely underwhelming as Ellie was settled a year later with her family to then force herself to go back for vengeance to then not even fulfil the vengeance she sought. The game made a huge mistake in the layout of the story as they made it almost impossible to have any sympathy for Abby due to the fact she was a random character who we knew nothing about who killed the most loved character ever introduced to the franchise. There is more negatives which I will not go into however Overall In my opinion the game is just completely demoralising ruining the mood for the player at any possible chance it gets as it just sought to portray the message of revenge being bad for anyone involved. It completely ruined the characters I fell in love with in the first game by completely changing their personality and characteristics that they had in the first game. I feel a six is justified due to the beauty of the game alone as you can see the amount of effort put into the visuals I just wish I could say the same for the effort put into the story.… Expand

Joel had a terrible death and couldve been better. They paid off more critics than putting money into this horrendous game. False advertisement and a even worse story.     Finished the game and traded it in immediately. I have to pretend like this game doesn't exist now as it ruined the franchise.
    Story was garbage 1/10
    Characters suck 1/10
    Gameplay - basically the same as the first game
    Graphics are an easy 9/10

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is one of the most disapointing games of all time, competes with Mafia 3. Our honest problem with the game is the story. The first game had amazing characters and story. So the expectations were high. Joel is my favorite game character of all time. He could sense trouble coming from a mile away. And he is a survivor. But in this game, he acts out of character, so he dies. Ellie says Joel and Tommy would do anything to survive. But then Joel and Tommy risk their own lives by saving a random girl getting chased by a horde of zombies. Honestly Joel and Tommy would've just left her to die and head back to Jackson. But instead they for some reason saved her. Then told her their names. Then went to a basement in their place. That totally didn't make any sense. And another thing is that, Ellie is not likable at all in this game. She always acts like a jerk to everyone. In the beginning of the game, a character named Seth apologizes and she doesn't even care. And then she acts like a jerk to Joel. And then there is the worst part about this game, the Abby part. The game tries to make us like Abby for some reason. And it doesn't work. I hate Abby. I dont even like Ellie that much anymore but at least she tries to get revenge for Joel. And then she fails, with weapons, against a weaponless Abby. that didn't make any sense either. And then there is the final. The game tries to give a cliche message, "revenge is bad, killing Abby would get me nowhere, I should forgive Joel and Abby" when it didn't need to. All we wanted from this game was, Ellie to kill Abby at that point. But instead, she lets her go. The only thing left from Joel was, playing the guitar. And Abby took that from Ellie too. Killed Joel, killed Jesse, shot Tommy, bit 2 of her fingers, and she still lets her go. Thats just poor writing. And I haven't even talked about the romance scenes the whole game, they are so bad that I dont want to talk about them.… Expand

    If you care about the first one, I suggest you not to play this.

You get trapped in a room and run in circles until you kill the boss. Some areas of the story feel forced and does not flow with the original game. Breaking from the characters original behavior for me was a major issue. It just made the game unbelievable and did not allow for a fluid immersive experience.There definitely where alot of story holes. Another thing to point out it the repetitive hunt for supplies and the ENDLESS opening empty drawers and cabinets only to find absolutely nada! I must say I did enjoy playing as Abby more then I did playing Ellie for some reason. The graphics in the game where beautiful but not the best that I've seen.… Expand

    Truly a masterpiece. Beautiful, heartbreaking story as well as moving side stories discovered in letters and notes found around the world. Excellent combat mechanics and varied, complex enemies. Beautiful design, brilliant voice acting, and a game that reminds us that nothing is black and white.

Open minded review, the graphics and gameplay are amazing, the story however is a huge mess, I avoided spoilers but off marketing could tell Joel dying would be the thing to set the plot in motion, wasn’t mad at that, I loved playing as Ellie, I wanted revenge on Abby but to switch where it did and play so long as Abby was a terrible decision, I gave zero **** about her or her friends, and the Santa Barbara stuff was just pointless, I get what they went for but it was done terribly… Expand

Okay so I will say this, I feel like most people are just **** talking this game because of what they know, have seen, or heard, without even playing it. Playing and experiencing the game for yourself gives you the right to your own opinion, you are entitled to that as long as you've played it. I actually really liked the game. Do I disagree with some of the events in the story, yes, but it doesn't deserve a low average rating of 4.4 like that's ridiculous.
    In the context that we are given, things in the game makes sense, it is clear what they were going for. But if you are bias to what you've seen or heard or have already played, and you let that bias become a block, then you are not going to have the experience you want with the game, because your bias going to blind you and hinder you from being able to analyze the themes and symbolism as they are meant to be analyzed.
    The point of playing as Abby is not to tease us, haha look we're making you play as Joel's murderer, no. No one even said you have to LIKE her. The point of playing as Abby is to put us in her shoes, to try and understand at the very least why she does what she does.
    Every single new character has a meaning some less or more than others but their stories are there. Dina and Jesse are Ellie's friends, they have history, but if you don't analyze the hints the game gives you, you won't see that Joel used to think Jesse had a crush on Ellie, Ellie actually has feeling for Dina, and vice versa. You'll miss who these people are to Ellie if you don't play attention.
    Manny, Mel, and Owen are Abby's friends, this is the games way of showing us who and what Abby has to lose. Owen is her love interest.
    Abby begins her revenge story from the moment Joel decides to save Ellie, killing all the doctors at the hospital in the first game. Following up in the second game keep in my that Abby gets her revenge, she kills Joel. I heard people saying that Abby had no remorse for killing Joel but you can see that she does, i actually believe it's the reason she needs a good deed, which leads her to Lev and Yara. Lev asks her why did she go back for them, that she didn't owe them anything, to which Abby replies "Guilt.... I just needed to lighten the load a bit."
    okay so now Ellie, my baby begins her revenge story when Abby kills Joel, this haunts her throughout the game and it's apparent. She wants revenge for what Abby did to Joel. She goes to Seattle with the intent of helping and looking for Tommy aswell as looking for Abby. There is a shift in Ellie's priorities near the end of Seattle Day 2, Jesse goes to support Tommy and Ellie follows the path of revenge pursuing Abby.
    They finally encounter each other at the theater but remember by that time Abby already completed her Revenge story, what did she lose? Her Dad. What did it cost her to pursue it? Mel, Manny, Owen, even Nora.
    My baby Ellie was on the brink of extinction and my wife Dina almost got her throat slit, I was on the edge of my chair. When Ellie reveals to Abby that Dina is pregnant, she replies "good," why? because her pregnant friend Mel was killed by Ellie, so why not, right? it makes sense anger, rage, and vengeance are motives for both Ellie and Abby, but Lev representing light and innocence of good tells Abby to step down and she does.
    One year later Ellie is living a somewhat good life but is still clearly haunted by Joel's brutal death, suffering from PTSD. One Day Tommy's headass guilt trips Ellie into pursing the path of vengeance once more. But let's see, what did Ellie lose to drive her revenge story? Joel. What has she lost so far as a result of that? Jesse is dead and Tommy is very damaged. I kinda wanted to note that by this time in the game, Ellie knows this is not what she wants but she has to try because this PTSD seems like it's never gonna end, hence the "I don't sleep, I don't eat." it shows on her face when Dina begs her not to go, Ellie feels nothing so she pursues it in order to try.
    All in all, I really enjoyed the game, it sucks that everyone is so divided. Ellie chose to let Abby go because that is not who Ellie is, I mean look at Abby who actually completed her revenge story, but literally lost everything even her people, the WLF and was LUCKY to have Lev. I will never forgive Abby for what she did to Joel, but she is still a respectable person/character. Ellie in the end made the wrong choice to pursue vengeance again and it cost her, herself and her connection with Joel through her ability to play the guitar. I just want Ellie to be happy, she is very talented and skilled I hope to see her pick up the guitar again and reconcile with her family, whom she is LUCKY to have. Honestly, it feels like you have to pull apart the story piece by piece for everyone to see it for what it is... ability to analyze the truths, themes, and symbolism of this game for what they are, i think are the best part about playing it.    … Expand

    Unfortunately, this good impression of the game is ruined by a completely worst story. Who wrote this ...? Who at Naughty Dog has approved this ...? Many character developments make no sense, especially Ellies. The dealing with the popular characters from part one, is absolutely disrespectful. Joel practically died for nothing. Ellie and most of the characters are unsympathetic awful presented. The identification-Factor with Ellie as main protagonist, is complete written out of the character. The game keeps forcing you to have sympathy for people who don't deserve sympathy. Of course, this goes wrong and is proof of the total failure of the author of the story. As a fan, of part one, i don't want to see or play something like that.

    All in all, the overall impression that the leaks had indicated has come true. The story is very bad, the most characters are written complete worst.

    Play it yourself, but don't be surprised if you're disappointed. The game is a slap in the face of every TLoU 1 fan. This example also shows how politically indoctrinated the "professional" media are. If 99% rate a game this way, it is clear that something is wrong. Such occurrences are the reason why I no longer give anything on reviews of magazines.

    The discrepancy between professional reviews and user reviews shows more than clearly how uncritical and blind the media has become.

    TLoU 2 is a game for people who have no connection to previous characters and only want to see a perfidious orgy of violence. Then the story full of plot holes works.

    For fans, TLoU was once a highlight that exceeded all limits of good taste with part 2.

    This comes out when authors with unhealthy closeness to a certain feminist person ..., miserably written character developments, plot holes without end and a game where the player partou is not allowed to make decisions himself, so that the player definitely eats the supposed message.

    An example...

    The game wants to explain what violence makes people do, but I **** on it. I, in Ellie's place, would never have let Abby get away. As a result, the game doesn't work as far as its message goes. Abby's father was a narcissistic **** that an innocent girl wanted to slit open. So why should I be sympathetic to Abby? And you even want to play? It just ignites and doesn't work.

    I can only speak for myself, but with the kind of Joel's death and from the part with Abby, the game kept losing me. Imagine Shepard from ME, in part 2, in the first third on Omega, cowardly stabbed by a no-name Batharian and then you are supposed to play the killer and fight Miranda and Co. The ME fans would have gone on the barricades just like the TLoU community.

    I loved the first part, I was really looking forward to the second part and i am now absolutely disappointed with what Naughty Dog has done here. Naughty Dog ran laughing into a circular saw. For me, TLoU died as a franchise and i will no longer buy a possible third part.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is a story focused game that emphasizes mainly on the revenge theme. The graphics and sound design in the game are spot on, 10/10. Sadly everything else is shallow at best. I pre-ordered the game and my punishment was to get the platinum even if I hate it. Even based on the low difficulty for the platinum I can tell ND knew how bad the game is because most of the time when the platinum trophy is trivial you are looking at a game that is trying to sell just for trophy whores. Out of all ND games this was the easiest platinum by far.
    The gameplay is obsolete, very similar to the first iteration of the game. Let me get into details: the game follows the same pattern, you have exploration sections where you search for loot and collectibles, you have stealth combat areas where you have the option to avoid fights completely and you have sections where a conflict is triggered and you have to fight. Some game levels are completely made to build up characters and those levels can be very boring especially if you have to play a character that you hate. From the gameplay mechanics perspective they introduced craftable silencers, some shallow rope mechanics puzzles, you can dodge attacks with great animation fluidity, now characters can jump if this can be considered a new feature in a 2020 game and you have to fight against 2 new enemy types (dogs - that can follow your scent and shamblers - a new zombie type that is easier than bloaters). Besides this it is the same game as the first one. The enemies are dumb, you can create a pile of bodies and they will keep coming to you. The gameplay is pretty much the same as TLOU 1. Another annoyance is the length of the cutscenes. In the first game they were able to build relationship between Ellie and Joel by adding small auto triggered conversations while you were looting and exploring and the cutscenes were well balanced with gameplay. This game is 40% cutscenes and sometimes cutscenes are never ending. I would give it a solid 7/10 since I enjoyed some of the levels a lot, whereas I hated other levels.
    Oh boy here it comes, the big elephant in the room, the most important things: the story and character design. Based on the trailers and critic reviews you end up determining that most of the game will be about Joel and Ellie. The critic reviews will show you only Ellie gameplay. That is not the case. Half of the game you play as Ellie and half of the game you play as a new character called Abby (a strong independent woman in gaming, a political agenda on a stick, it is a pumped up version of Nadine from Uncharted 4). I don't understand at all why they tried so hard to make her as repulsive as possible, she is hideous, she always takes selfish decisions, she is way more cruel than Ellie (both of them are very cruel but when Ellie takes bad decisions it seems she does that because there is no other way and she is always heavily punished for doing so, when Abby takes bad decisions she has options, and she chooses to be a bad person and she doesn't get any punishment whatsoever, she even cheats on Mel with Owen and Mel is pregnant with Owen and the game chooses to show us a disgusting sex scene between the two). Also another political agenda is Ellie being gay. From my point of view this is done very well and it doesn't affect the story in any way, but it just seems so political from the moment when they started it with the "Left Behind" DLC. Also through out the game Ellie seems to take one stupid decision after the other, again something forced in terms of story, just because the game wants to have a reason to punish Ellie. Lev, another character is a trans person and the second half of the game follows Abby trying to save Lev and her sister Yara. Again Lev takes some stupid decisions and Yara gets punished and dies because of his mistakes. Again, another character added for political agenda purposes. Even if the game tries a lot to make you empathize and feel for the new set of characters it fails miserably because the characters seem to be so artificial, so you of place. Another big problem is Joel's death. First of all he is killed at the beginning of the game to create shock value. The problem is the way he is killed by the game. The Joel, Ellie duo relationship was the core of this game, they manage to loose that in the beginning and the big problem is the false advertisement from game trailers that show a different picture. I understand the game wants you to feel bad but the way they do it seems just very superficial and cruel. The second half of the game forces you to play as Abby and forces you to feel for her. I didn't want to play as Abby and couldn't care less about her and her motivations I wanted to see her punished for what she did to Joel. Instead the game ends with Ellie sparing Abby's life while Ellie looses 2 fingers in the final fight and she basically looses everything while Abby looses nothing.

    Pros:

    - Art style: TLOU always had a beautiful art style and this sequel is no different, in terms of environmental design it is stunning at times especially seeing Seattle overgrown with foliage. You truly get the image of a civilization in ruins while traversing it.

    - Sound Design: TLOU was heralded for its beautiful soundtrack and ambient sounds and this sequel measures up to that. And while I may have personally preferred the original's soundtrack, that isn't a knock on the sequels. There were some truly inspired choices used and it is definitely one of the games highlights.

    - Character Design: With the exception of a few characters, the overall character design ranges from average to great for the setting it is in. It's nothing monumental, no truly awe inspiring designs but the ones that you do see are more often then not good.

    - Performance: Voice acting in this game is phenomenal with probably a single character whom I didn't feel the voice fit the character. Troy Baker as Joel is an absolute highlight again managing to capture the pained and conflicted anti hero and Ashley Johnson is masterful as Ellie making you truly feel what she is going through.

    Cons:

    - Story: I understand what they were hoping to accomplish with the story but for me and seemingly many others it fell flat. The story came across akin to a fanfiction written by someone who truly hated the first game, and that becomes obvious within the first 3 hours of the campaign where a formerly leading protagonist is absolutely disrespected with their legacy ultimately leading to nothing and their death being purely for shock value. And the character responsible for his death never reaches the sympathetic protagonist archetype that they were going for. Instead it does a disservice to the characters affected by it and the game suffers as a whole.

    - Gameplay: TLOU was never heralded for it's impressive gameplay but I had hoped that with 7 years under their belt, Naughty Dog would have managed to improve vastly upon what came before. Instead it appears that what we received was not even a refinement, but simply a few additions in the form of dodge and momentary incapacitation. This leads to stagnant and monotonous gameplay repetition that becomes tedious a few yours in. If you played TLOU1, you'll be familiar with the playstyles.

    Enemy AI: There is no easy way to put this, enemy AI in this game is bad, very very bad. TLOU1 had laughably bad AI at the time of it's release but even 7 years later with massive system upgrades the enemy AI is only fractionally better then what came before. For context I recently played through Watch Dogs, a game that was released in 2014. To me that game had vastly superior enemy AI as they had heightened detection and posted more of a challenge.

    Enemy variation: This is another area that suffered in TLOU2, the enemy variety is lacking, very lacking. And that along with the gameplay hurts the overall experience.

    Level Design: TLOU2 suffers from having to me at least very straightforward encounters. You are more often then not thrown into an area with only 1-2 ways to handle said scenario often resulting in the same outcome. The lack of variety to the levels as well as the above reasons makes gameplay tedious at times.

    Overall like I said, I did not enjoy The Last of Us 2 myself, I understand why some loved it and I understand why some hate it. But despite the pro's I listed, I can't get myself to give it any higher than a 5. I loved The Last of Us, but the sequel seemed to make it a mission to undo what the first game had built up resulting in characters I didn't care for, a pointless death which amounted to nothing in the end and sadly far too many missteps for me to rank it any higher.

    I have no doubt that the developers poured plenty of work into this game, but sadly I can not rate it any higher than I have. I hope they take the criticism to heart and work to improve going forward. Sadly I think it is time to let The Last of Us franchise end. This was an anticipated but unnecessary sequel that ultimately did more harm then good.    … Expand

    Да, создателям удалось привить мне симпатию к Эбби, которую на сцене смерти Джоэла я просто ненавидел. Та часть игры, где мы играем за Эбби — наверное, лучшая во всей игре, ну а людей, критика которых основана на ее внешности я понять не могу абсолютно, потому как в процессе погружения в её историю ты напрочь об этом забываешь. Её дуэт со Львом — это как чистика первой части, из-за чего я просто не смог остаться равнодушен.

    То, когда играя за Эбби ты видишь ещё живыми тех персонажей, которых скоро ты же и убьешь, играя за Элли, даёт какие-то непередаваемые эмоции: они шутят, смеются, планируют свою жизнь, и, как оказывается, не являются законченными ублюдками, но через пару часов ты же их и убьёшь (да, про это сказали уже все, но это важнейшая часть сюжета и не упомянуть ее нельзя)

    С одной стороны — тебе очень сложно пытаться убить Элли в театре играя за Эбби, а с другой — тебе безумно не хочется топить Эбби, играя уже за Элли в самом конце. Такого в играх я не испытывал никогда, браво.

    Ну а про смысл последнего диалога Элли и Джоэла думаю и говорить не стоит, ибо в нем и заложен весь смысл того, что происходит в игре. Игра (ну или по крайней мере её конец) не про бессмысленную месть, как могло показаться сначала.

    С нетерпением жду новый проект ND, и очень надеюсь, что это будет нечто новое, потому что очень уж интересно, чем они нас удивят.    … Expand

    After playing 20+ hours of the game i must say. Overall game is pretty bad. Only good part is graphics and music. The gameplay feels old and uninspirit. Shooting part is straight up broken, just as broken as stealth. Writing is awfull. Overall i give it 4/10 it does not deserve more.

By the end of the game you realize you didn’t have fun, you had an experience similar to that of real life, things don’t go the way you always want and life isn’t always perfect, it’s brutal and takes its toll. I give the last of us part 2 a 9/10 because while it’s not the first game most loved and saw as a masterpiece back in 2013, it is still an important step in story telling to tell a story people may be too resentful to hear and I believe they did it as best as they could.… Expand

Story is not as good as the part 1. There are holes, it cannot be denied, but still... I loved to just "sniff walls" just to admire this attention to details. In my opinion, trying to play someone who just killed character from the previous game is something new, but they did it actually wrong.

    Yes, from our perspective Joel was a hero for us, but what did happen in the Salt Lake City, it turned him into antagonist even in me eyes. Even tho, that Ellie was for him like a daughter. In the other hand, mankind killed his real daughter, so maybe he didn't want to save mankind, because that would be mean the death of his second daughter. No one, except us, didn't know about this, so for Abby and the others he was just a monster.As a fan of part 1, in my opinion, killing Joel so fast was wrong. He should die later in the game. Ellie should pursuit to get revenge for killing Dina. "you think I'd let you do this on your own", should be Joel like in trailer. They should get trapped by Abby in the theatre like in original, and there Joel should die, by what he did to her dad. All the rest of the story should go as it is in the game, except ending. Abby should die, by Ellie's hand.
    I know what ND is trying to do with her. I'm almost sure, they want to make her a main character in part3, what is wrong.

    But, why I gave this game 10/10 you ask? it's simple, There is only one rating, and **** else was just too perfect for me to give it just 10/10 rating. I want games to look like that. Even the best story is nothing when game is looking awful    … Expand

    While i truly think TLOU 2 deserves an 8/10 i'm trying to help all the review bombing. This game isn't perfect like most Naughty Dog games but its still an enjoyable experience and i think anyone who liked the first game would enjoy this one.

    Story was a flop though and one of the worst game story continuations in history of Gaming. They literally slapped fans of the original with their agenda. But even when not counting the agenda it's a bad story overall.
    TLOU1 was great and I pity the people making the graphics, tech of this abomination of a game story and having to keep their mouth shut cause of fear.

I would've been much happier if the game had ended with a fight between Abby and Ellie ending either way. Playing the character I want to kill isn't fun.     Excellent work! I had a very strong emotional experience. After the end of the story I couldn't stop crying for a few hours. The gameplay is amazing, the scenes are incredibly realistic, every detail worked out particularly. This work is provocative in this segment. It's real masterpiece of art.

    I finished TLOU2 from A to Z to make my own and unique opinion of this sequel. Well. I don't even know where to start. I am so, lost and disappointed with this game.
    7 years for that.

    I was one of those who had seen the leaks but still wanted to play being a big fan of The Last of us 1.
    History had marked me. The relationship of the main characters also. Joel in particular seeing in him a father I had never had.

    I was well aware that he would certainly not survive in this second chapter. I was quite ok with that btw. But in this way? WTF happened?
    Joel deserved so much better. His story with Ellie too. How do we get there. How can you spit so openly on the fans and completely destroy a story that was incredible at first.

    My note clearly goes to the graphics wich are incredible and the music let's say.
    The rest, the story, the characters who are ghosts and who have never interested me, the writing, the logic and THIS endgame were an incredible mess. I truly am disappointed.

    "The game is about revenge" they said. "It's worth playing" they said.
    No.
    This game is about a beloved character from the community who is killed like **** by a golf club. His death will want to be avenged by Ellie who when she has the opportunity will simply let go the golfer.
    Ellie loses a father.
    Ellie loses two fingers.
    Ellie loses his girlfriend.
    Ellie loses the ability of playing guitar (the only memory she might have kept from Joel)
    Ellie loses everything.
    When and where is revenge? And why do we get to play Joel’s killer ? What is wrong with u ND ? I don’t want to play this character and i’am not interested in it. I can understand that they wanted to write a story that would explain to us that revenge leads to nothing and that we can end up losing everything but damn not after having taken us Joel THAT way after 2 f****** hours of gameplay !

    Joel's death doesn't bother me more than that because I expected it like any fan. What bothers me is the way they did it, the lying trailers, the manipulation and to repeat myself : the story etc.

    I have never been emotional once in the game. Comparing the last of us 1. At one point, all this violence and hatred didn't even do anything to me. What I mean by that is that it was too much.

    I really and sincerely hope that ND will never think of a possible Last of us 3.
    They disappointed and spit on their community by offering this game.
    For me the game stops at the first one, chapter 2 will never have existed.

    Not to be "too" negative, the only thing that is really worth in this game are the graphics.
    Play without paying attention to the story which is very difficult for someone who did the first chapter.

    If you want to play a game and have never played TLOU1, want to see beautiful graphics and have fun smashing everything then play the last of us 2, you may not be disappointed.

    If you want an incredible immersion, a touching and magnificent story, also with pretty good graphics then play THE LAST OF US 1 !

    I was actually playing the real last of us story only when there were flashbacks with Ellie and Joel. That’s what The last of us 2 should have been. And yeah at some point, Joel would have died by saving Ellie or some **** like that or maybe not who knows, and his last words could have been « you’re always be my baby girl ».
    I don’t know.

    An astonishing achievement. The best kind of a sequel, where the story in the original game has now been enhanced and expanded upon in surprising ways. Shocking, wonderful and often startlingly brutal. PS4 has its greatest title.

The good: ..."wow". Those 3 letters sum it up. Wow at the cinematic direction and narrative. Wow at the graphical and acting execution. Wow at all the technical aspects and game design. Wow at how the game explores subjects (violence, loss, guilt) to the lengths that I don't think were ever explored in video games. Wow how emotionally investing and engaging the story is. Finished the game in a dark room with credits rolling out and an amazing version of Wayfaring Stranger playing in the background, it makes you just sit in that darkness to let it sink in, reflect, try to cool down after a heart gripping ending. Not many games can do this and despite a couple of obvious flaws, this game is a masterpiece in it's own right.

    I was closely following on the hateful critique this game is getting and it is quite shocking what turn it took. Must have started with misunderstood leaks and then escalated like an avalanche with people just copying opinions of others without having their own. It is true the characters went in another direction that most people would like but this is not an RPG. This is a novel. I would rather focus on how the story was told, than whether I agree with the choices. It is true the game is difficult to bear in a sense that it throws endless violence at you, if this is a problem then you probably shouldn't play. Critique about the characters not being themselves seems quite ridiculous... Both Ellie's and Joel's transformations make perfect sense... Ellie because of her age and what she found out after going through so many traumatic events. Joel because how Ellie softened him up and made him trust humanity again. I also just read Polygon's "review" which is often referenced as truthful opposition to the "paid reviewers"" (???). I will just say that the review"" is about 80% personal rant about the message of the game and how the author felt it. One, on many occasions it completely misses the point or is even just plain wrong (part about the characters not developing emotionally). Two, it doesn't focus on other (brilliant) aspects of the game, and there are plenty.

    Rating this game anything below 6-7 is just being dishonest, this is a must play for fans of the first installment or people who love post apo, grim atmosphere & narrative games    … Expand

    The way Naughty Dog is handling the critic is by laughing and using slurs and pulling out the homophobic and transphobic card on you if you hate their game. Truly pathetic.

    The thing that didn't sit well with me, was that after rescuing Abby, she kills Joel. After some time, you will play as Abby for a whole 10-12 hours. If you hated how she killed a beloved character, this early into the game and how it was executed, your experience playing as her, trying to sympathize with her pain will be atrocious. To me, I had a really bad time

    The game's characters are easily forgettable. I was already heavily invested in Joel and Ellie, that none could even hope to match them. Jesse, Manny, Mel, Nora, Owen? Didn't give a second thought about any of them.

    You've done better, ND. But taking the piss out on your customers and disregarding their critic because it doesn't suit your little world of happiness and sunshine? Get real.

    If you're one that loves a good story, I recommend you avoid this game. They basically flushed the franchise down the drain and mock its community.    … Expand

The Last Of Us Part 2 is an unrelenting slog form start to finish, devoid of any grounded characters, interesting character relationships, or deeper meaning justifying the oppressive grimness it revels in. Did you know violence was bad and revenge pointless? The "game" (and it is necessary to put that in quotes) pulls the player by the ear through a deluge of dragged out cut-scenes and walking simulator sections of "gameplay" involving possibly the most dour and unrelatable characters ever committed to a video game, hammering home that simplistic message over a 20 odd hrs - which feels way too long - average playtime. The scant gameplay that is offered is largely unchanged from the first game and is serviceable. The graphics are very well done but as the industry as a whole has upped its game in this regard it is no longer a selling point to most people. I truly cannot understand what thought processes where occurring at Naughty Dog or Sony, this was a gimme and somehow not only have they managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory but have also have done irreparable damage to the cannon of The Last Of Us universe. In the first game the studio went for a grounded feeling, even though it was set in a generic zombie apocalypse the humanity of the characters and the relationships between them pulled the story through and made the game something very special. It is clear in this game they chose out of sheer hubris to disregard that which made the original a success and instead focus on an insipid plot that pulls grotesque cardboard characters through to its ignominious and pretentious conclusion. This sequel kills what fans loved about the original, replaces what was established with nothing of consequence and has the very real potential of being an IP killer.… Expand

    I think some may forget that Joel is a hero to us ONLY because he was our primary POV character in the original game, but to those not sharing the player's POV he would have seemed a monster. Those touched by his journey across country with Ellie in tow most likely would have considered themselves the victims of some crazed killer.

    People also seem to forget that the original game ended on a down note, with Ellie becoming distant from Joel as she suspects he's lying to her. In fact, the original game ends with Ellie clearly realizing that Joel has lied to her, and the bond between them, forged over the course of the entire game, is now broken. The sequel picks up in exactly that place, with their relationship strained by Joel's (well meaning) dishonesty, and Ellie's (well founded) suspicion.

    I deeply appreciated the way that the game explores the idea that neither Ellie or Abby are actually the good or bad guys, just simply that they were people on opposite sides of a very **** situation. You know...the way things tend to work in the real world.

    As far as the so-called "SJW agenda" of the game...well, I'm not really sure that the mild depiction of two women involved romantically can actually constitute an agenda of any kind. What, do you all live in a place where women don't date each other or something? I also don't think showing a physically strong, action oriented woman checks the agenda box either. Did you people hate Ripley in "Aliens" as well? How about Sarah Connor in "Terminator"? Was that also an SJW agenda?

    For those that think Joel's character was "assassinated" by the events in the early game, I feel like you're missing all the wonderful, touching moments we get with him throughout the rest of the game, and even in the final epilogue.

    Those of you whom have made up your minds about what this game is, even before playing it (and let's be honest, 14k negative reviews less than 12 hours from release...on a 25 hour long game...is a sure sign of people making up their minds without playing it,) are doing themselves a disservice, and depriving themselves of a fantastic game experience.

    If you don't like it after playing it, then that's perfectly fine, you have every right to your opinion. But if you're giving it zero scores just because some angry YouTuber or Twitter told you to, then perhaps you should take a breath and start thinking for yourself.

    I thought it was great, and I highly encourage people to give this game a shot, most of you won't be disappointed.    … Expand

They have improved tremendously since its predecessor and continues to show the power of the PS4. The story direction and character development however were weak. Poor choices and decisions were made for the characters that could've been better.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
