    Despite its dark themes, I really enjoyed this game. Visuals are stunning and the mechanics have been improved to a point where I was encouraged to use everything in my arsenal during combat encounters, which added to the overall experience.

The only gripe I have with the game is the pacing in the second half but the ending made up for it. As with so many other excellent pieces of media, you do not always get what you want and have to go on your own journey to deal with it.

    On a side note, my PS4 Pro got very loud when HDR was enabled. Apart from that I only encountered two minor bugs throughout my 36 hours of playtime.    … Expand

    It's not a bad game per se, especially with most of the low rated reviews complaining about the story. However, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Although, it could be agreeable to a certain extent that there are major flaws in the story-telling portion of the game, which is the fundamental point of the game in the first place, thus garnering as much negativity as it did for theIt's not a bad game per se, especially with most of the low rated reviews complaining about the story.     Nonetheless, based on personal experience (without any spoilers), the story is not bad, but its not good either. It's the type of story that hits hard to reality, where there are always the possibility of things going bad, but in the game EVERYTHING that could've went bad DID went bad which is the opposite of the fantasy "good ending" that most people want/expect from a game. It's not a game with a **** story, but its a story that makes you feel like **** and i cannot emphasize how ****ty someone could end up feeling after they finish the game.

    Also the introduction of the new characters are less developed compared to the first game, so players have less connection to them and honestly most people probably wouldn't care about what happens/happened to them. However, props to the actors and actresses for putting on an amazing performance nonetheless as one could really see and feel the emotions that they are trying to express which makes you relate more with the characters.

    Aside from that there are A LOT of flashbacks throughout the game which really kills off the momentum the game builds along the way, would be more arguably better to have the flashbacks as actual gameplay at the start of the game to allow players to redevelop the connection with the characters again, since even the first game's remastered version came out 6 years ago, a lot of time has passed and most players probably had already forgotten all the emotional turmoils that the first game provided.

    Despite that, the actual gameplay itself is amazing, with really well developed fight animations, great visuals and stunning scenery. One would not regret taking a minute off the gameplay just to look at the view. However, the combat system does still feel a little under-developed and the AIs have questionable movements and actions. Furthermore, every encounter does get increasingly repetitive and if I dare say "boring" as it seems to be a deliberate attempt in extending the gameplay length by adding in certain unnecessary encounters which does not make sense. (BUT THE ROPE PHYSICS CRAZY)

    To sum it all up, its a great game that i would recommend playing it once just for the experience. But personally once is more than enough as there is nothing to hold onto nor reminisce. Overall it may not be GOTY material as there are many aspects to improve on, but nonetheless it was still an enjoyable experience to a certain extent.    … Expand

    To start it all of, the gameplay, music was everything great like we expected it to be, the story was also great except for some parts. I knew they were going to kill Joel, and despite that fact that was what gave Ellie the strenght to pull all of what she did in Seattle. I Absolutely loved Dina, Ellie and JJ together, but the problem here is that Ellie after she leaves her home, in order to find the closure she needs, to look for Abby and kill her. I mean we play the game for hours and hours because just like Ellie, us the players also want to get revenge for Joel, and I feel like almost everyone in that position that Ellie was when drowning Abby would have killed her. Like she killed Joel and Jesse and nearly killed Dina and Tommy. I get that they wanted to stop with the killing cycle but like I said before we play through hours for basically no point whatsoever. To make this worse, Ellie comes home a few months later but the house is vacant. We've waited 7 years to get this end to the story? Please... and now I'm hearing rumors that we might get a last of us game with Abby and Lev as the protagonists, if they actually do that, I might just regret playing the second game at all, at this point I'm honestly thinking that I've should have just watched the game on Youtube to see the players get to the end and be like "for real this is it?" instead of wasting 79 euros on the game.    … Expand

    Game isn’t what you’d expect, they managed to mess up a good storyline, there are so much holes in this story, I’m starting to think they didn’t care for it as much. Joel dies LITERALLY 30 minutes into the game or less. I can’t believe what I just played this is not acceptable, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Do yourself a favor. This upsets me so much having to write this, I loved the first one, this isn’t nowhere near that. Keep in mind I have finished the game.    … Expand

Of particular note is the different ways you can approach every single scenario, from stealth to the different weapons, or even melee (which is actually extremely fun).

    Now to get to the part that is apparently polarizing: the story. I personally find it a brave effort that is often profound. It's very visceral and made me empathize with characters in a way that I never thought they could do. Having said that, it is certainly not for everybody. It is full of pain, grief, and violence, and that can get exhausting for some. For those that are worried about the polarity in opinion, I think it is probably because the people that are upset wanted a continuation of the same story elements they saw in the first game, but were angry and confused when the game decided to take things in a new direction and explore different themes. My advice would be to relax and let the game tell you the story it wants to tell.

    My 10/10 score for the game is not to say that the game is perfect. No game is perfect. There are certainly problems with the pacing, and the skill trees and upgrades have not evolved enough, but these issues were never enough to detract from my experience with the game.    … Expand

    I can’t deny the gameplay itself is fun but the terrible story, pathetic attempt at shock value and awful character development made me regret picking up the controller.

    Just go back and play the first game again. Don’t bother picking this one up.

    The Last of Us 2 is, in technical terms, perfect. From visual to sound, soundtrack to perfomances, it's one of the best games ever made. The gameplay is some of the best stealth ever made and rewarding to explore. I also really liked the narrative and the story it told, but I think the fact that you play two characters in big chunks affected the pace of the game a little.     L'ambiance visuelle et sonore sont tout simplement sublime !

    Le gameplay n'a pas évolué énormément par rapport au premier, si ce n'est en ajoutant quelques mécanique supplémentaire bien sympathique (se coucher par exemple), mais en soit, ce n'est pas ce que j'attends d'un titre comme celui-ci. Je préfère au contraire que le studio garde ce qu'il y a de mieux dans le précédent opus, et c'est ce qu'ils ont fait !

    Concernant les débat qui font que la note est ce qu'elle est aujourd'hui, je trouve cela puéril est surtout invalide.
    Un des personnage lesbienne/gay ? Et alors ? Il est ou le problème ? Le seul problème que je vois, ce sont les c** qui n'acceptent pas qu'une telle chose puisse exister dans un jeu.

    Trop de cinématique ? Que neni ! J'ai trouvé au contraire que des fois, le gameplay tirais un peu en longueur, et des cinématiques en plus n'auraient pas été de refus (cela dit, ce n'est pas un point négatif pour autant).

    Une histoire bancale ? Non, du tout ! Bien au contraire, TLOU II nous amène dans une direction que personne n'aurais imaginé avant. Tout le monde se voyais déjà parcourir les USA avec Ellie et Joel, comme au bon vieux temps. Mais ce serait oublier que TLOU se passe dans un environnement violent et détruit par un infection virulente !

    De plus, celui-ci nous questionne sur deux points très important :
    - Notre relation avec la vengeance ;
    - Démontrer que dans le monde, tout n'est pas tout noir ou tout blanc, qu'il n'y a pas de bien et de mal, mais au contraire une très grosse nuance des deux en une seule instance.

    Abby n'est pas méchante, elle a fait des choix car elle a vécu des choses qui l'ont mise face à ces choix. De même pour Ellie, qui n'est pas méchante non plus, mais qui souhaite se venger suite à la mort d'un être cher.

    En fait, Abby et Ellie vivent exactement la même situation toutes les deux. Leurs père (ou de coeur) a été froidement abattu, et elles demandent vengeance.

    Bref, titre énorme, je ne regrette pas d'avoir perdu 30h de mon temps dessus, et je m'en vais de ce pas en perde 40 de plus en survivant+ !

    Понимаю, фанатов игры, которые ждали 7 лет, чтобы поиграть, а получили совсем не то, что ожидали. Но это не отменяет того факта, что игра и с технической стороны, и сюжета очень сильна. Абсолютно не жалею потраченные 30+ часов геймплея, оно того стоило.
    Ни одна игра у меня не вызывала такой привязанности к героям : к главным и второстепенным.

    I feel the need to write my first review since I saw all these other reviews. The game is absolutely brilliant and I loved almost every second of it. I didn't have problem with playing for Abby, since it's completely new thing to play as a character like hers, pretty interesting if u ask me. Many people are mad that is overuses the 'revenge is bad' story line, but I really don't think that's true, it's just that it retroactively uses that, instead of doing at the time.

    Overall though, definitely worth playing, and definitely not worth the mountains of poor reviews here. Good game, but maybe trying to hard to top the first and create something unique, instead creating something somewhat jumbled and unsatisfying.    … Expand

    If i have to compare the writing of the first game to this it would go from brilliant to braindead. Characters do things that don't make sense making dumb irritating decisions.
    The character Abby (the **** that kills Joel) that we suppose to give a **** about is developed very poorly and in result the fact that we have to play as her makes it very painful for the player in a narrative standpoint.
    I feel shame for all those hard working Naughty Dog employees that had to put up with Druckman's sjw bull**** propaganda. The game thanks to their hard efforts looks beautiful making it the best looking game on the PS4, the sound design also excellent.
    If the game had a decent and competent story like the first one i would probably love it.

    Ignore the plot and play it just from a gameplay perspective and it's actually pretty good.    … Expand

    Played around 3 hours of this game. Had to refund and replay the first one whilst repeating the phrase ‘there’s no place like home’. They don’t make em like they used to :(

    Killing Joel had to happen in this game but the way it was done was terrible. A veteran survivor of over 20+ years just causally walking into a trap like that really left a sour taste in my mouth early on.

    Also the marketing of this game really led gamers to believe it would be a Joel and Ellie adventure when in the end Joel was only present briefly, I don’t think it’s fair for a company to mid lead people like that. Forcing players to spend a large majority of the game playing as Abby the woman who literally beat and tortured Joel to death was a terrible idea. I spent most of her 7/10 hours of game time just bored and not sympathetic to her in any way, then the fight scene where the game makes you attack Ellie a beloved character who you actually empathise with and beat her to a pulp was a joke.

    Finally the ending of the game was so anti climatic. I was so excited to play out Ellie and Abbys last fight and finally get revenge on Joels killer then she just lets her go. After Ellie has killed maybe 100+ people to get to this woman it just makes absolutely no sense for her to forgive her at the end. I will do a new game+ at some point but I absolutely will be skipping all of the Abby sections on my next play through, It could have been an actual masterpiece but Naughty Dog really dropped the ball on this game.    … Expand

    Objectively its 6/10. Lovely graphics, visceral animations, haunting sound design. Gameplay is a bit outdated, but good enough. Story is the main problem... really poor writing. lt feels like a cheap fanfic. Joel's death is simply insane, playing as Abby was mentally exhausting i would've preferred to be able to skip that part (yep, lose 10 hours of the game willingly). Ending is simply nonsensical, you kill over 200 people and yet you do not finish the job? At least they could've given us a choice to kill or not kill that roided up monstrosity.
    This game never happened, Last of Us is a sequel-less title as far as i'm concerned.

But only then you will fully understand the story Naughty Dog wanted to tell, and maybe even learn a lesson from it.     This game is a masterpiece. Gorgeous storytelling, gorgeous graphics, gorgeous gameplay. I've been trying to understend the people who are disappointed, but theyìir arguments always make no sense to me. The sound like crybabies, or rather racist, homofobic, toxic people, who know nothing about storytelling pretending they do. Do yourself a favor, and play this game if you played the first one

Больно и мучительно было после первого прохождения, когда после убийства главного героя игра обязывает играть за Эбби - но я чувствую к ней только ненависть и злобу. Это очень сложно, ведь этот пусть занимает половину игры.
    Только проходя игру во второй раз, я уже знала кто такая Эбби, знала ее мотивы и могла ее понять.
    Мое фанатское сердце разбито.
    Расстраивает некий фактор воздействия со стороны радикального феминизма, я бы хотела следить за личностями, а не за клешированной сильной, независимой и накаченной женщиной.
    ЛГБТ ни в коей мере не задевает, если оно преподносится адекватно и без навязывания - в данной игре это именно так.
    С нетерпением буду ждать DLC, где нам расскажут о дальнейших приключениях Элли.

    Графика фантастическая, отношения к деталям и этот сумасшедше крутой и опасный мир, звуковое сопровождение - огромное спасибо дизайнерам, программистам и другим разработчикам.

The problem is, the story is pretty weak, it really feels like SJW propaganda, I don´t have problem with LGBT, but this is sooo forced. We kill hundreds of people just to let Abby go. Ellie's left with no fingers, with no family, with no future, to be honest.
    I've spent 30+ hours to feel depressed, to feel betrayed and to realize this game doesn't even have an idea, a moral. Killing is bad? Hell it is, but what about all those dead people? Revenge is bad?? Tell Abby about that! She USED her chance to kill Joel, Ellie failed a lot. All in all, character development is VERY poor. I'd prefer to erase my memory and pretend this game never happened.

    I have a few things that are impossible to argue.

    ● You need to have huge eggs to set yourself the task: “Let's kill all the beloved hero, and then make everyone love the killer.”
    ● The second part at times deepens the problems of the first. This is a “true” sequel that contains all two parts.
    ● It was only the middle of the journey - one of the most difficult moments. “If we lived happily ever after” - this was not as intended.    … Expand

    It's great on so many levels, graphics, gameplay, sound, art, lighting are all 10 (and I think no one would say otherwise, maybe regarding gameplay).
    Then comes the story, I understand people are upset. But it's not a bad written story, or a bad story at all. They took a route alot of people (presumably) didn't want. But it's still an epic story about love, revenge and forgiveness.

The good: visuals are absolutely awesome, looks amazing. The bad: there is almost no improvement in mechanics or AI from the last game, yeah you can jump and go prone and the dogs add a new factor but no real innovation here. All you are doing is just going to one box, fighting, finding items and then moving onto the next box. The worst: The story really did not do it for me, I loved the relationships in the first game but this was all thrown out the door with this. I really didn’t care about any of the characters in this story (except Joel) and by the end was really ambivalent if Ellie or Abby died.… Expand

    I don’t understand why the game is getting so much hate. It’s a lot of fun and it looks amazing. Not much more I want. I like the story. In the world that the characters live in it makes sense to me as to why the story does what it does. Would highly recommend.

    I'm no critic but here is how I feel...
    I really enjoyed the gameplay, throw a bottle here, go around there, stealth, or guns blazing the same as the first with tweaks to the model's movement and reaction to surroundings to make it feel more natural/realistic. Bravo to the team at Naughty Dog for accomplishing this. The Visuals are stunning the landscape, the water, the different seasons, and how it changes the whole mood as the story progresses. Everything came together very well and really opened my eyes.

    Story 2/10
    Yes I played The Last of Us Part 1 and I will try to make this as unbias as I can (which is difficult.) I will not say the story in this game is helpless because it has a very interesting take on revenge and the consequences of your actions in an almost domino effect. But, the order in which events take place just forces the player to be put in the dark state for most of the game. Like Troy Baker said "This game rests on a pendulum, and in order to reach heights that it does, it must go to the depths. In order to achieve that level of beauty, we must have that level of despair." (interview with Collider Games) With that in mind, Joel the character we get to know and love is murdered within the first 2 hours of the game and you only get to play him for about 30 minutes. So boom despair and that continues on until the flashbacks which I would rate 10/10 absolute tear-jerking moments that make you smile and add on so much to the relationship development between Joel and Ellie. After those what are we left with? Hate. You play as Ellie going out to get your revenge and almost satisfied because we are angry. Then you have to play as this woman you have grown to hate for like 10 hours only to play as her for 10 hours. I found this part unenjoyable and very unpleasant, not to mention the sex scenes and other unneeded fillers.

    My Conclusion
    If you skip what is above at least read this please, Naughty Dog it's truly sad to this happen there was no need to do this after 7 years so eager getting chills hearing Gustavo Santaolalla's guitar only to come to a game that is so focused on a character and useless messages that have nothing to do with what the real game is about and that's Joel and Ellie and if you didn't see that in the first game you are obviously blinded from repeatedly feeding the community **** sequels and calling it art. :/    … Expand

    I personally think this game doesn't deserve 0 or 1 rating. Its really harsh rating. It's one of the best graphics, combat and stealth game I have played in a long time. It's a masterpiece on PS4. Yes I agree that forcing to play as Abby for half of the game is not fair and with her fight with Ellie I purposely died many times and wanted to put down my controller.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
