This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

A good technical achievement with the graphics and sound on a dated console, but really can't get passed how bad the story and writing is on this game. Was a struggle to finish with the janky controls and repetitive mechanics the first time I've had doubts about any future Naughty Dog titles.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Naughty Dog was my second best game company after Rockstar but they are no where near my tenth as of now. They ruined a perfectly likeable game and character for literally everyone. There's so many ways this story could have gone. The fact that they deliberately decided to murder a beloved character in the most contrived and gruesome way possible while fully understanding the effects of this choice on the millions of fans out there is as disrespectful as it is outrageous. There's so many ways the story could've progressed without killing off Joel. Pretty much everyone's "raison d'être" for playing the game. I probably could've come up a better story than this contrived **** being force fed to fans because they lack the motivation to tell a good compelling and engaging story like the prequel. If they wanted revenge to be the backbone of this story, they could have pulled it off regardless in a remarkable fashion without having to murder the main reason why people were gonna buy the game. This obviously explains why they lied to everyone about everything. Even the trailer was a **** lie. If you wanted a revenge story and relished the thought of murdering one of the characters, why not perhaps kill off Tommy and have Joel and Ellie go avenge his death. Seems pretty logical to me. The Joel in the TLOU certainly will do that if he lost his brother and I can totally see Ellie tagging along considering Joel will be pretty old and not as agile and strong as he used to be. If that's still too extreme, why not murder say a pregnant Maria and leave Tommy badly injured in a raid so much that he has to rely on Joel and Ellie to exact revenge for his beloved wife in his stead. Or why not destroy the town, kill a few people if you have to and mortally hurt Joel if you wanted to have Ellie go solo. Beat him up, even shoot off his leg like you did but keep him alive. It will make better sense why Ellie spared Abby's life in the end.
I could think of so many other scenarios and despite not being a writer, I can tell the story was forced. Forced so much that even if they tried, there will always still be loose ends and half plots to deal with. The game just feels broken and messed up on so many levels, I can't help but think this is some sort of a propaganda story. They had no reason to kill off Joel, yet they did, to prove a useless point that makes no sense at all.
I'm not gonna say anything positive about this game because when you start a game on such a badly horrific note, that's what you're gonna get. It destroyed the experience for me and I can't help but wish the game never released at all. Or it released with completely different characters telling a completely different story. You deserve a lot less than you're getting Naughty Dog. Better be grateful!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just played through it. The game was really disappointing for me as a fan of the first one. After I saw the leaks I lowered my expectations and even with my low expectations the game got even worse than I thought. I'm still disappointed by the lazy writing of the Story especially how they handled Joel's death. Tommy and Joel wouldn't be so dumb to reveal their identities to complete strangers especially when they wear uniforms of a miliyary group which doesn't operate in the area of Jackson. There is literally no reason for them two trust the armed group of strangers. I can understand that Abby wants revenge but let's be honest her father was a moron of a doctor who had such a big ego that he wanted to kill a teenager to make a cure. He as a doctor should know that a vaccine for a fungal infection hasn't been achieved with the resources they had before the outbreak. There is literally no chance for a vaccine. And if it would be possible the dumbest thing to do would be to kill the only human known to be immune. Also it's kinda his own fault wanting to kill a girl without consent and to threaten someone who is heavy armoured person with a scalpel. You don't bring a knife to a gunfight. And Abby knows that her dad was willing to kill a girl without her knowing she would die. Many people said the context of the leaks were important. But holy **** it made the game worse. The gameplay was okayisch but at the point where we switch to play as Abby I just wanted the game to end. Story was **** and gameplay got boring. Tlou2 is the first game that made me to switch difficulty to just run through it to get to the end. The end wasn't worth playing to be honest but I was glad the game was over. The game looks beutiful and has many details though. Also the soundtrack is really good like last time. These are the only reasons I give 3 points to this game. Wouldn't recommend fans of the first game to play it. Others might enjoy it more.... Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Some thoughts for those who thought Abby "ruined the game". Hear me out, because I get you, but have a different opinion. I would write a whole review, but it feels more important to just focus on what a lot of people thought the game got wrong, which I feel it got incredibly right. – You clearly do speak fluent sarcasm (rude dialect), it's obvious. Jokes aside, I think Abby was a hard character to understand for those who don't feel the love in her voice when **** her dad, Owen, and Manny. Ellie can be friendly, Abby will always come off as a little closed off because of her pain. – Her actions were justified. Joel **** humanity, set it back 100 years at least. I would have wanted to do the same if I had no knowledge or connection to Ellie and Joel's relationship – We both hate her. But at least try to understand her choices. – Playing as her made my skin crawl in the best kind of way. The game was uncomfortable, because when you switch you see her through Ellie's eyes at the peak of loss and hopelessness. – Her and Ellie are mirrors; Ellie is immune, small, stealthy, better at killing infected, and made strong by her companions (at first). Abby is large, intimidating, aggressive, trained to kill people, and made stronger through loss (her father, relationship with Owen, her cause in the Fireflies). – Only at the end do both character arcs reverse, and they come to a point of mutual understanding, growth, and forgiveness. Abby relies on Lev and forgives herself, Ellie forgives Joel and Abby. – Ellie killed Dina's dream and wrecked her own mind because of revenge. Abby got her friends killed for the same reason. – I didn't want Joel to die, but I believe the alternative would have been the same dynamic as the last game (which makes no sense to me given Ellie's growth and awareness of Joel's betrayal) or a sad sap story of Ellie causing tragedy because she can't forgive Joel, who is still alive, and Joel failing to help Ellie because he's blinded by love. What we got was a great piece on cyclical revenge, and a bleak picture of humanity's darkness. – Jesse was fleshed out during the story, but I'm hoping we get a Jesse & Joel DLC. Lots of DLC! ALL THE DLC. Tommy going to the Big Sur firefly camp looking for Abby would be good too. Now what I think it could have done better: – The Rattlers part felt rushed; I would have liked to see Ellie travel to Santa Barbara, even if alone. Preferably, having Dina (leaving baby with Jesse's parents) or Tommy trail her there, and save her from the near-death side injury at the end, like how she healed Joel in game 1. – Ellie should have killed Abby and then nearly die (with an ambiguous ending), or Abby kill Ellie and Dina kill Abby and Lev both (definitive ending). – Plot variations for multiple playthroughs could have been a nice touch, but I understand it's hard to write a good story in that format. Overall, this is a **** masterpiece in my humble and clueless opinion! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After 7 years of anticipation for the next chapter in this series that many avid gamers such as myself who hold the original in such high regard, this mediocre attempt of a sequel tarnishes the original's legacy and decides to bash the players over the head with its ham-fisted political agenda and ideologies. The plot is contrived and tries to be cleverer than it actually is. The old characters are either a shell of their former selves or are just completely different from what they were before and make dumb decisions. The new characters are either bland, one dimensional or just plain terrible and any chance of any of them developing is short lived. As a longtime fan of Naughty Dog and all their works, I have never lost respect for a developer as quickly as I did for Naughty Dog. They should be ashamed of themselves for blatant false advertising in the trailer, having the trailers deceive fans into believing that they will go on the journey as Ellie with Joel by her side. FALSE Joel is barely even in the game and the scenes he is in are just pointless flashbacks and not to mention that you only play as Ellie for only half of the game, more or less. The absolute nerve the developers had to try and pull a page out of Kojima's book and have the player play as a character that they despise and think that you'll grow to empathise with her is something that will go down in gaming history as one of the worst decisions of gaming development. The reason why the switch worked more for Kojima is pretty simple: Raiden didn't kill any beloved characters. Gender and identity politics have no place in being in a game like this. In a world ravaged by a deadly fungus and infected , survival and knowing whom to trust or not to, are the most paramount things to care about in the game's world, not what your gender or sexual orientation is. If this is the route that lies in wait for the new generation of gaming that is approaching then I will no longer be apart of this community. True gamers like myself play these games as a form of escapism, not to be bogged down with political messaging that's about as subtle as using gasoline to put out a fire. If you loved everything about the original game then you'll be doing yourself a favour by not buying this game, or hell even renting it. I have never written a review or anything like this on these types of sites but the way this game affected me for the wrong reasons I just had to put my thoughts into words. RIP Joel, you deserved better Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Heart-breaking for all of the wrong reasons, the story of TLoU2 is an objective downgrade when standing in contrast to the first game.

Perhaps the most pronounced flaw with the story of the TLoU2 was the writers completely abandoning the main themes of the first game to instead spread an invasive message of female protagonists forcefully replacing beloved male characters to fit an agenda and revenge leading to nothing but further destruction and ruination.

This is not what the Last of Us is supposed to represent as a narrative. The themes of the first game included Guilt, Loss, Acceptance of One's past and most importantly, the theme of Hope being the main driving force of the entire game. The bleak atmosphere present within the first game simply served the purpose of enhancing the previously mentioned themes, yet, in this latest instalment, the bleak atmosphere completely engulfs the entirety of the plot in a shroud of perpetual darkness and depression.

it is quite obvious that this sequel does things for the sake of being different rather than for the sake of elevating the story to never before seen heights. The prime example of this would be in the form of Joel's unearned and needless death. Evidently, the writers had desperately tried recreating the shock value of Sarah's death for the first game, with the 'clever' twist being the daughter figure witnessing the death of her father figure right in front of her eyes. However, this just comes off as being cheap and unearned. You're telling me that a hardened veteran such as Joel, the same person who sensed the Hunter ambush in the first game, would be dumbed down to such a point that he would follow an armed stranger into their home which in turn would have himself and Tommy surrounded by even more armed individuals, without even having a firearm ready? No, I'm sorry but that is just lazy and betrays the characteristic of Joel being cautious and highly vigilant no matter the situation. The player feels anger and frustration rather than shock and sadness, as they had to bear witness to one of the best written characters in video game history receiving perhaps the worst death of a main character period. Moreover, Joel was brutalized by an unrealistically muscular woman wielding Driver Nephi's Nine Iron from New Vegas.

The writers then expect players to endure 6-8 Hours playing as the roided out female who massacred one of their most beloved video game characters. No amount of subliminal 'Good-Guy Propaganda' could ever make Abby likeable in my eyes. I didn't care that she was petting puppies and helping save Zebras with her dad, the only thing I cared about during Abby's part was speed running past it so that I could continue to the actual story that I care about. The sad truth of the matter is that Abby could have been a strong secondary protagonist, however, the death of Joel at the very beginning of the game made her irredeemable. Only idiots, psychopaths and paid stooges in suits pretending to be valid, unbiased critics would actually enjoy playing as Abby and sympathize with her, which is such a shame considering that I could tell that Laura Bailey was giving the part her all. The writers should honestly feel ashamed.

Being brief, characters completely abandoned their characteristics which they had attained and defined during the first game, for the simple purpose of the writers feeling lazy when thinking of ways to accelerate the already paint-dry slow plot-hole filled story.

The saddest part of all of this is that I expected a lot better out of Druckmann, and I know for a fact that his talent when it comes to writing could have easily made this game an actual masterpiece rather than a colossal failure in the eyes of the general consumer. The evidence for this would be arguably the best parts of the game, the flashbacks. In my opinion, most, if not all, of the flashbacks were 10/10 and masterful in explaining the relationship between Joel and Ellie. As a matter of fact, these flashbacks were the only time in which I smiled throughout all of the game. What a shame and what a joke that the game did not follow these flashbacks instead of this horrifically stitched together plot.

Furthermore, if this game was meant to honour Ellie, it fell on its face thrice over before land sliding off of a cliff. Ellie gets one of the worst and most undeservingly dark endings I have ever seen in a video game. She loses everything she cares about, even being incapable of playing the guitar properly at the end of the game. I found this egregiously disgusting especially when Abby got a happy ending, mirroring the end of the first game where a now deflated Abby and Lev act as the new Joel and Ellie, sailing away into the sunset.

I understand the ending with what the writers presented, but Ellie sparing Abby is like if John Wick spared the person who killed his dog.

In conclusion, this story was mercilessly crippled by forced identity politics.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It absolutely breaks my heart to see the poor reviews for this amazing game. I thoroughly enjoyed this game, start to finish, despite having a minor complaint regarding the ending. From stunning visuals to, in my opinion, a well thought out story line i struggle to see why the majority of reviews for this game are negative.
I only have 2 complaints about this game: The positioning of Joel's death in the play through and the ending. However these are only minor complaints. Joel dies very early on in the play through which doesn't really give players enough time to reconnect with him as a character, which some say makes his death pointless (?). I replayed the first game prior to launch so i did not encounter this problem but i can see why it is an issue. However his death makes more and more sense as the story progresses and acts as Ellie's main driving force. Without the death of Joel, this game wouldn't make half as much sense. In terms of the ending, I feel it didn't provide enough closure in terms of the characters besides Ellie. Ellie's journey is closed off perfectly and having realized this much my issue with the ending is minor.
All in all the issues with this game are minor and i think it is worthy of everyone who enjoyed the first game's time. I loved every second and everyone I know did also. Pick this game up!

But in all seriousness. I've enjoyed many triple A games over the years and many were able to bring tears of both happiness and sadness to my eyes. TLOUPII however, is a different beast. It doesn't pull any punches and literally makes you followthrough on few of those by yourself. And not all of them are as easy as pressing square. Every hit makes you feel... emotions and a lot of doubt. If this isn't the definition of art then I don't know what is.
This is easily THE GAME of my life. Nothing even comes close.
On the other hand, if you're into games for the graphics, brutal combat and environmental storytelling... this game is also for you. Just watch some cool combat clips on youtube or digital foundry's analysis if you find it hard to believe.

Being a HUGE TLOU fan, I knew that ND would deliver, and they did that...and so much more. I felt uncomfortable, i felt sad, i was angry, i was heartbroken, it made me more emotional than anything ever has, and I'm still recovering. The game was genius, and Ashley's acting as Ellie is top-notch, and really grabs at your heartstrings, or makes you shiver in fear( whatever her mood at that moment)The story is truly amazing, and complex, and it makes you think...A person can be a Hero to someone- but be a Villain to someone else. I love that the game touched on that- especially with the addition of the trading cards to push that notion. I'm saddened to find out that a lot of TLOU fans aren't able to really look at the bigger meaning of the plot, or understand the immaculate storytelling this game has to offer. I thought they'd be more complex than that. But a game that pushes the envelope like this one does is bound to upset a lot of dense people. It comes with the territory. Another 10/10 and GOTY in my book. Well done, ND, well done. Expand

A shame there are sk many negative user reviews before people even finished or played the game, but i guess this is why 'user scores' are seperate. I have no doubt theyll even out over time and people review from experience and not leaked info without any context.

Poucos momentos do jogo você realmente começa a conhecer Ellie.

I wanted to rate the game because I find that the bad grades are totally unjustified. First of all, I would like to point out that the workload that the game staff is undergoing and all the policies around it are really not liveable and it was worth mentioning. But is Naughty Dogs the only studio to do this? Have we boycotted Red Dead 2?

Then those who then note that they do not have Ps4 and that they are raging or that they think that the game claims a cause more than another you are missing the plate. We judge a game for its swimming, its gameplay, its characters. Do not take things out of their contexts.

The Last of Us is for me the best game I have ever played. The studio wanted to do more than a video game by questioning themes that mark us. They did it.
I find the characters more worked than most films or series as they are human. We feel their faults but we understand them.

Level of the scenario I am not a fan of the event which takes place after 2 hours of play and of the narrative choice of the second part.

But The Last Of Us II wants to be realistic. And it REALLY is. I think that's what's bothering. The death of the characters is trivial because no one in a world like that of the game is.
No hero is invincible, and no one in the game is a hero. No choice is fundamentally bad because they are just SURVIVORS.
The music is very little present, which accentuates its presence during emotional moments. I think it's wanted from the studio.
The gameplay is similar to the first, quite repetitive at times but for a game of thirty hours I never got bored. The AI in the game is impressive, varying according to the difficulty chosen. There are a multitude of possible choices for apprehending gunfights. Human enemies by their movements, the communication they have with each other seem really alive.

The game clearly has horrific sides. There are many jumpscares. I am not really a fan because it does not serve the plot but maybe the player can be surprised? Idk, in short. The weapons are cool, the landscapes are very varied and magnificent. The light is sumptuous whether it is the rain, the reflections of water, the reflections of the sun which expresses hope last the whole game. We explore new areas, some parts of which have remained intact which strengthens the world depicted. At the end, we can ask ourselves only one question: what should we have done in place of the characters? More than a story of revenge, TLOU challenges the eternal circle of revenge. The metaphor around the guitar is beautiful and full of meaning. There is so much to talk about in this game. I think this is one of the best games of its generation. Films or TV series should clearly be inspired by it. TLOU gives the characters such a great deal of humanity that it is said that everything is gray and not white or black. In addition, I salute the fact that the characters' sexuality is never put in the foreground. It’s just a fact and it’s not a character trait, it changes NOTHING. I hope TLOU 2 will get the artistic recognition (and not only in the video game field!) That it deserves. Just like a film we may or may not enjoy the story, like or not like the way it is told, but as a simple video game there is no shortage! (except for objectivity, the repetition of "I have to go to point A to point B" but although the content is not always ingenious, the form fills with poetry, humanity is always !! !) the th

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly, where to begin. The Last of Us was a breathtaking game. Storytelling was done masterfully. I still tear up whenever I see Sarah's scene.
That game managed to get you so attached to characters to the point of it being the downfall of the sequel.

TLOU2 greatly improves the gameplay mechanics of the first game, albeit the mechanics aren't that great to begin with.
It's still very polished and highly enjoyable at first.
It gets stale very very quickly, unfortunately, but that's not too much of an issue, because TLOU was never about gameplay.

Environments and music are out of this world. Hats off to all the people involved. They did an astounding job and every set piece was a beauty to behold.

Unfortunately, all of what I mentioned is overshadowed greatly. These were all overshadowed by abysmal writing and storytelling.
I did not mind Joel dying. That was expected.
The how is questionable but what are you gonna do..

This story feels incoherent. Dismantled. Trying so hard to break the shackles of a cliche revenge story, it ends up shooting itself in the foot.
I did not care for Abby or her friends. I really didn't. Naughty Dog got us attached to Joel and Ellie, knowing well that they're flawed. Knowing well they're not the best of people. We loved them anyway. Trying to show us how bad they are doesn't work. It's a post-apocalyptic world where every man is for himself.
We cared about their relationship, not Abby's and her new friends. Playing her angered me beyond belief and letting her walk free without being given any choice made me feel like I wasted so much time. The game is hollow.
The characters are hollow and their choices don't make sense.
It's like the characters were made to fit the narrative they wanted and not the other way around.
I expected a big portion of the game to talk about "the cure" which is what made the first game what it is, but there was nothing.
Only a very brief mention in a damn flashback that brushes off the whole thing as minor story point.
I personally believe that finding a cure should've been the main focus of the game, with the revenge story being a subplot of many.
Unfortunately, we can't change what has been done. Naughty Dog failed to deliver a good story. They tried a bit too hard and stumbled on their own ego.

    Finally,

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is filled with moments that are supposedly meant to be bold and smart but in my opinion are just cheap, unearned and lazily written. Joel is nothing but a lamb sacrifice for a plot that’s been overused in entertainment media: revenge. His death, in my opinion was not at all emotional (not in a good way at least), it was just shocking for the sake of shock value. In the first game, not even 20 minutes into it, you were already crying when Sarah died like she was your own daughter when you didn’t even know who she was 10-20 minutes before. Unfortunately that masterful writing skill does not exist in this game as Joel’s death does nothing but anger you at how poorly handled his death scene was. Clearly not understanding what made the first game great, naughty dog introduces a new character (abby) to replace joel. Right off the bat replacing either joel or ellie In a story that revolves around them and is successful because of them is already near impossible. So bringing a new character that mutilates the main character of the first game isn’t great way to get us invested into abby. Of course naughty dog tried real hard to get you to see abby’s perspective yet, in my honest opinion, did not succeed. To top it off do not expect Joel’s death to pay off in this game as LITERALLY every character involved in his death was either killed in a quick time event or cutscene EXCEPT for abby, because ellie, after murdering everybody, finally decided it was not worth it anymore Expand

All the hype was all about Ellie and Joel and they made trailers which gave us a feeling that Joel would still appear a lot. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review hurts to make as I believe the first game is a masterpiece and one of the best games of all time. This game, however, is not that. This game's story is an insult to the first game and fans of the first game.

Before I delve into that though there are some notable positives. The graphics are nothing short of incredible for PS4. I ran it on Base PS4 and the game is one of the best looking games on the system. It wouldn't look amiss on PC. The settings and accessibility options as well are nothing short of industry-leading. Even PC games could learn a thing or two from the options menu in this game. I also enjoyed the more open world section in Seattle and the story early on, excluding that particular scene. There are some very nice moments that I won't spoil.

However, the main negative is the story, especially the second half. Playing as Abby for 10 hours is not fun. She is not a character that is relatable or in any way good. This section of the story only serves to make the player hate her even more. The Sex Scene is one of the worst things in any game ever. I have no problem with sex in video games. Witcher 3 and Mass Effect did it well. But here it goes on too long, is too explicit and just looks really awkward and unsettling. This is made worse by the context of the situation. That Owen is cheating on his pregnant girlfriend and Abby is knowingly continuing. The story is also very convoluted at times with flashbacks within flashbacks and too much unnecessary fluff for characters that are extremely unlikeable and lack any redeeming qualities. The ending is also extremely unsatisfying and just left me feeling like the whole game was pointless, this is made worse by the fact the first game ended with a satisfying conclusion and so a second game never needed to exist.

The story has ruined the series for me and I will not play part 3 if it ever launches.

My respect to Neil Druckmann who has crafted a complex and intricate narrative within a medium that he changed 7 years ago with the first game. The central theme of the game is the endless cycle of violence. A disease that we humans have been victims of for thousands of years. If the first game is about love and care for one another, this one is about revenge and the terrible consequences that it brings. I have seen a lot of biased opinions towards the story and I say biased because of the people who criticized the leaks instead of playing the actual game. The game is constructed from the perspective of two central characters Ellie and Abby, (yes, not Joel, get over it) two sides of the same coin, through which we can see the horror of the post-outbreak world. I'm not trying to convince people who disliked it that this is a masterpiece for the ages. It's pointless arguing and it says a lot about you if you are unable to understand what the game is trying to tell you. I am writing this to show appreciation towards Neil Druckmann and the Naughty Dog Team who deserve it and have given us so much. And all I want to say to you Neil is: From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. I'll be forever changed by this experience and I hope that someday I can create just a bit of what you have done with these two games.

After playing through this game in it's entirety. I can safely say I would've been better off spending my 60 dollars elsewhere and using my time on something enjoyable, unlike this game. The only good thing this game has going for it are the graphics and sound design. Everything else, including the story and game play is downright awful.

This is a great game, intellilgent, profound, too devastating and painful to be fully understood by those who wanted just a videogame and a happy copy of the first story.
This is not a revenge story, this is an adult story about pain, grief, regret and forgiveness, all things that were there also in the first game, and I am sad to see that a lot of people didn't even understood the first

This is not a revenge story, this is an adult story about pain, grief, regret and forgiveness, all things that were there also in the first game, and I am sad to see that a lot of people didn't even understood the first game at this point, if they thought something positive could come out by such an important final decision in a world full of hate that still lives on just hard survival. Hate that made these characters blind and ruthless, the same blind hate that is guiding users right now, they don't listen, they don't want to understand, they don't even try, they just proceed to go on with their hate, they just want their revenge, they just need a golf club and they will be exactly that character that is getting the most hate. Because the people we love are heroes, don't they ? They do no wrong, also when they clearly do.
It shows exactly how much it is hard to deal with truth and pain, isn't it ironic ? Or it makes this game even more important ?
Can't wait for Part 3, thank you so much for this amazing journey.

Its unfortunate so many people are upset with Joel's death, when it was such a moving force for the whole game. New emotional heights were reached with this one. Abby is not, like most negative reviews are claiming ," shoehorned" into the story, she is very well flushed out and debatably the good guy of the game. I look forward to playing her amd lev in tlou3! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The Last Of Us Part II: Jogo esteticamente bonito. Parabéns aos programadores e parabéns aos diretores e produtores do enredo desenvolvido.

Technically and gameplay wise, this game is perfect! I didnt had any problems with script, i understood it. I understood motivations, i understood everyones actions.
Abby is great addition to the world and i hope we will see her and Lev again.
People who review bomb this game just because they are homophobes or because they would write script differently are jokes...
Everything made sense, even hero can become villian and you can start simpatize with former badguy. But every coin has two sides, remember that, not everything is black and white...

An opening note about "review bombing": take a look at the positive reviews. See how many of the reviews don't go beyond a paragraph, or even a sentence? And in addition, that ten is the only review on that account? This is my first review, but I've tried to be as fair as possible, since I feel something needs to be said about how rhis all was handled. A large portion of the negative or mixed reviews are well-written criticisms of the game by fans of the series, while many of the 10s don't even mention a thing about the game itself. Don't review the game until you've finished it? I highly doubt all the positive reviewers have played the game through, either. Is "review bombing" justified when it's positive? Even if it's being done to counteract the backlash, it's still highly disingenuous and doesn't help the cause in the long run. With gaming journalists constantly being strong-armed into giving AAA titles high scores, honesty is becoming a precious commodity. The score disparity means something is wrong. The game has its good points, but it is definitely not flawless. Neither side is innocent. Look for yourself and think critically before blindly pushing your own narrative.

    With that said, the review.

The game looks, feels, and sounds amazing. There's no denying that. The graphics are breathtaking, and I'd say that aesthetically speaking, the game is unlike anything else on the console, pushing the PS4 to its absolute limits. A fitting sendoff, in light of the PS5's approaching release. The sound design is haunting, the musical score, environment, and enemies all sound incredible. This all ties together to paint possibly the most realistic and immersive picture of post-apocalyptic America I’ve ever seen. Play it on the biggest screen you have, wear headphones, and enjoy.

In terms of gameplay, it's good. It builds upon the established formula, refining it into a smooth and enjoyable stealth-action gameplay loop, tried and true. However, I wouldn't say it's game-changing, especially in comparison to its predecessor. TLOU brought us an entirely new experience, heart-pounding and suspenseful in a way that transformed the zombie genre. TLOU2 is equally exhilarating, but I wouldn't say it breaks any significant ground that its predecessor hadn't already. As a standalone game, it's excellent. As a sequel to the first game, which made me fall in love with the genre, it's just a tad disappointing.

Now, the story and characters. What the vast majority of reviews, me included, find issue with. I won’t get into detail about major plot points in order to keep this review friendly to those who haven’t played the game yet.

The way the story unfolds is confusing, forgettable, and downright infuriating at points. I think the idea was great; however, the order that it’s presented to you only made me less invested as the game went on. It retcons beloved characters, doing complete 180s on their personalities in ways that go beyond subversion into alien-skinsuit territory. The new characters that the game attempted to make me emphasize with were unlikable for multiple reasons, even to the point where I would take more risks in combat, not valuing their lives as highly. felt detached from the characters and uninvested in the story; so, why play the game?

All in all, TLOU2 would have been a great game, were it not a sequel. However, it is a sequel. It can’t be judged purely on its own merit. The graphics are incredible, the gameplay is great, but the story falls short. And that’s the issue. TLOU established itself as a narratively-driven game, a story about forging bonds and finding the good in a brutally unforgiving world. TLOU2 is a revenge story that beats you while you’re down and leaves you empty by its conclusion. Perhaps that was the point. Subversion isn’t a bad thing in itself. It can be a powerful tool, where betraying established expectations can create an experience more powerful than before. However, there’s a difference between subversion and indiscriminately breaking down aspects of a beloved series for the shock factor. The marketing seemed to double down on this idea, the trailers promising an entirely different game than what you ultimately buy. It’s shocking, but not in a good way.

The Last of Us should have been the last entry in the series. Go play that, wait for this to go on sale or pre-owned, and save yourself some cash.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Firstly, I would like to say I don’t think the narrative of the story is the best and it could be improved however I don’t think the current narrative is easy to diners or understand. I know I’m going to get called an ND fanboy for this but I just want to leave my thoughts about the game.(sorry for bad English in advance)

After reading dozens of reviews, I have realised a vast majority of the users that rated down the game did not have a valid explanation as in why the game wasn’t good. from hating on ND Because they included characters from LGBT community(you should not play ND games if you are one of these) to being upset because Joel died. Or some upset because this wasn’t a story of hope and ‘light at the end of the Tunnel’ like the first game. People need to realise this is a different game with a completely different story.

I have seen genuine criticism and I think some of them are good I personally did not like having to play through the character that killed one of the most beloved characters from the first game however I understand Naughty dogs decision to do this as this will further justify the story and the theme they are trying explore. The story spends a long time trying to make you empathise with Abby which just didn’t do it for me personally.

However I do not believe the game needs to receive this much hate only because majority of the players did not really understand the message naughty dog was trying to convey which is that: revenge hurts you and everyone around you and there will be blood and consequences and there isn’t really winner. I did not exactly see Abby as winner in this. She lost everyone she care about and all of her plans ruined. Neither did Ellie. Her love left her and she did not get what she wanted. She just needed to accept that the burden of Joel’s death will be with her for the rest of her life. The point is that there was no winner in this bloody revenge story.

In terms of the gameplay, sound design and the environment, naughty dog has set the bar very high. The graphics are incredible and the movements and gameplay are amongst the best I have seen.
I decided to rate this game 10 out of 10 simply because I thought every other aspect of the scheme was perfect and beautifully crafted and I have much appreciation for naughty dog as a game company. I just don’t Believe the game needs to get this much backlash and hate simply because of its controversial and rather complex narrative.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. People are destroying this game without even playing it, just because of a few spoiler. Do I prefer this one? No, the first game was better in terms of storytelling.
But this one is awesome, we are looking at the other side of the story. Playing as Ellie and Joel makes us believe that they’re the good guys. Long story short: in TLOU world there are no good or bad guys, everyone just tries to survive. Joel and Ellie killed a lot of innocent people, just like Abby’s father. We are seeing the story on another perspective.
Did I like watching Joel die that way? No, of course. I cried my eyes out because I loved his character, but saying he deserved to die in a better way is far from the truth. He is not a hero, he is a survivor. We would’ve liked to see him die in a better way just because we grow closer to his character in the first game. Secondly, how can you say the gameplay didn’t improve? And don’t let me talk about the graphic, amazing.
So, in conclusion, I understand that you’re shocked because of Joel’s death, I understand you seek revenge towards Abby, but in my opinion Ellie did what was right, she stopped the cycle of violence. I liked also the reference to the first game, Ellie saying to Sam that what scares the most is ending up alone.. that’s the only thing I would change.
I think she deserves a happy ending with Dina and their son. She’s been through too much sh*t to be alone, again. Maybe ND could make a DLC or something.

Not game but rather a journey! We see a fearless man whom we controlled with joy back in 2014, now whittled down to someone who is terrified.. Not of the world or monsters around him but rather terrified of a little girl. His girl, someone whom without life itself ceases to exist. We see a girl growing into a woman fighting the parental love the same way we all have once upon a time. It isn’t until tragedy/karmic justice, whatever YOU call it, strikes. When she herself realizes life without that love isn’t a life at all. So instead she attempts to fill that void with hate, in a journey that teeters us along the same knives blade used to slit the throats of the many “foes” along the way. All while as we the player from an outside perspective begin to realize the wasted life and love being bleeding out into the streets or snow for the joys of hate and revenge. It is here where the games beauty lies. Never as a gamer have I been halted from a bloodlust to ponder “are these people deserving of the wrath I bring” (mind you I speak on the npc’s not the core group you hunt) for 10 hours of the game I said yes and never looked back as I hacked limbs, caved skulls, and incinerated flesh. But upon the tonal shift (that I admit hating and even growing weary of at first.) I found my mind being re programmed as I realized in this world everyone has a reason for blood, everyone has a reason to hate. It’s only those that move on that find peace. (At least their own form) Those that seep down into the sunken darkness of their pain will never float again, will never feel whole and will lose EVERYTHING in the process. The 2nd half of the game tested me. (In many ways.. emotionally, pacing, tonal shift) but once I embraced it I found as a firefly might say “the light in the dark” As a man who is nihilistic in nature I found hope for the first time as I wanted peace for all parties involved. Until the men whom I idolized reminded me what was lost (Tommy is a constant reminder) then I was yet again geared to fight for what I believed in and what I believed in was hate.. then it ended. Where did my hate leave me? With nothing.. sitting in the water on screen and sitting with my jaw open in my room, I couldn't help but smile because inside of me a small portion of peace grew. I knew now it was over and my character could stop fighting and embrace what comes next. I was proud of her! But it was to late, everything was already lost. Even if she for filled her set quest of hate and revenge it still would have ended here. Alone, lost, on the road to fill that void. Except this time knowing hate will never fill it. She may never forget what happened but she has at least come to terms with it... Any game that can make me wage war within my mind and heart is a goddamn masterpiece. Stop comparing and let this game exist in its own right... It’s only then you can respect and open yourself up to something truly moving. Graphics 10/10. Story 9/10
    Gameplay 10/10
    Characters 8/10
Final notes. Only thing that actually upset me was the length of the final location and group. That setting was what it feels like to chew 5 gum. It was a refresh much needed! It came and went like me on a one night stand... not to mention the final group “Rattlers” were one of the most interesting introductions to not only the series story but a great spin on many other things such as how you approach gameplay and how this series can still surprise and grow even in its last hour. They deserved more! I’m still craving more. Imagine having to raid compounds of cannibals like “the walking dead’s” terminus or compounds like the soldiers in “28 days later”. That’s how this last hour made me feel and that’s what I hope to see MORE of in the inevitable sequel. The original will always warm me and make someone lost find a way to open up for love, all while shutting out and down anything necessary to preserve it. It moved me like a Cohen brother film while questioning my morality. This sequel instead took Ellie’s blade and gutted me to look inside my character. Be ready, if you allow it you may learn a bit about yourself.
