Felt like a lot of it was in the wrong order. I wanted nothing more than to go full Kratos in GOW3 on Abby at the end but we just let her go? NO!!!! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay mechanics are enjoyable, but I feel like crafting could’ve been built on a bit more. While I can understand what they were trying to accomplish in terms of trying to get different perspectives across, they wound up making Ellie a very unlikeable character bu the end of the story. They also didn’t make any of the new characters stand out enough to be enjoyed. Even if they’d given us more time with them, because of the way they were introduced to us I already had a disdain for them. Had they brought the story to us differently, and let us get to know them and their motivations better before the terrible act, then maybe I’d have been more open to empathize with them. Because the story tends to make you want to walk away from it for awhile at points, I can’t justify the roughly 25 hour run time. The game is held up by fun, solid gameplay, and the voice acting, despite the writing doing it’s best to want to make you think about things, it results in unlikeable, or dull characters that I don’t care to spend another 25 hours with. All in all it’s a solid game, but not one I care to play through again. Expand

The characters are well written but just not interesting and it doesn’t help that neither is the story. It all revolves around a certain event, as if the event itself is going to shape the whole story like the tlou1 did with Joel and Ellie’s relationship. It doesn’t. Before this game came out all of the previews and interviews made it seem like the story was going in a certain direction and it’s really disappointing the way it turned out. It would’ve been nice to something maybe a little more lighthearted especially with everything going on in a world where there doesn’t seem to be very much hope nowadays. Expand

I tried everything to like it but I just found it very boring and dry. 25 hours of gameplay with a badly written story, characters with no depth that I never felt a connection too (unlike all previous naughty dog games) false advertising in the fact it was shown from trailers etc that Joel would be in the game not Abby, the 10 hours of Abby gameplay that wasn’t revealed as I just mentioned and the awful ending that makes the whole game completely null and void. A story about revenge and true horror of the human psyche which just crumbles into nothingness and Ellie never gets her revenge it’s ridiculous. Worst AAA title for a long time. I’m glad people like it but to me that story was just not up to my standards. Everything other than the story was phenomenal the graphics, the music, sounds and gameplay were 10/10 unfortunately the story was 4/10 so I tired to balance it with my 6/10. 7/10 at very best. I so wish Naughty Dog would have gone with a prequel to this game than a sequel, following Joel after the death of his daughter and his loss of humanity would be an interesting story to play. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had never played the Last of Us but had heard good things about that game, so I didn't want to miss out on this one. Presumably there were a lot of folks like me who were expecting a similar experience. What we get instead is a hodgepodge game with no sense of direction and an overriding theme all the time - revenge! Both the protagonists on this game are so driven by the sense of revenge that it just gets tedious after a while playing this game. The only thing that kept me going was the urge to explore the world. Boy does the story and narrative make it hard to do that. All said, this game is definitely not a 10/10 as IGN's Jonathon Dornbush rated it. But it's not the worst either. The initial few hours are enjoyable, but once you start playing as Abby that's when things get bad. To me, RDR2 remains the gold standard when it comes to telling a story in a game. You could actually connect with the characters and that made the game so much more enjoyable. This game, not so much. So yeah, Naughty Dog, if you are reading this review, take this as feedback. It's not a bad game, it's just not the "masterpiece" IGN claims it is and which is probably what a lot of users were expecting too. Expand

Hate doesn’t turn to sympathy that easily. Fighting Ellie felt so wrong and none of Abby’s actions before that made me cheer for her or hope she lives at all. First I want to clarify I'm not a native speaker to the English language in case I have some words that I mispelled, now let's get on for the review.
I want to start by saying the positive things that came out of this game.
The last of us was one of the most heartbreaking and groundbreaking games ever. So, for the sequel it was expected to have a lot of hype and expectations coming in... Evene after saying that I think the sequel did kind of dissapoint me.
The last of us part 2 has probably the best visuals, special effects, cgi I have ever seen in any videogame ever. I think that many people aren´t acknowledging that. The visuals left me with my jaw on the floor, each scene felt like a masterpiece.
Also, the gameplay developed similarly to the first one adding many elements like the stealth options, the workshop elements, the improvement of skills, etc. I think that the gameplay, the zombies and the action scenes are way more fun and unique in a very real way. Each time I kill some enemies I feel the weight of each bullet, the npc's feel more realistic and griddy making the game have a much more realistic look for the environment and for the characters.
Another thing I really enjoyed was the writing, even though the story, the pacing, the characters and some decisions are really poor in this game the writing does have it's moments. The writing was pretty good considering the story they wanted to say, the characters did feel grounded and I felt the weight of each character I lost even the ones I didn't actually know in the beginning. Relationships are formed in a decent way and many characters do feel very real.
    Now with the negatives.
I won't get too much into the story because I don't want to spoil anyone, but the story is really weak. After the first one this one felt like a try hard version of a change in characters that didn't work as well as they wanted to. Most of the characters that you already know from the first game are changed almost completely in a way that you almost can't recognize. The story is sloppy and a bit messy in times shifting from flash backs and stories that are very on the nose.
The game makes some bold decisions that in the end don't play that well. I think that the studio, the actors, the visuals effects, the concept art, the design... they all did their best with what they were given.
But, in my opinion it ended up becoming a ground breaking video game in visuals, having some of the most flawless animations ever. Some really fun gameplay in a story that ends up being pretty forgettable. In itself this videogame would have been a really decent one if it wasn't a sequel, but sadly it is.
This game tries to portray a story that has already been told in many ways, media, tv shows and movies. It tries to be super clever, but it ends up falling a bit flat even with good writing and good visuals.
This movie just suffered from the pacing, the structure of the story and the way that it was told. This game could've still been a masterpiece if it was told in a different order and in a way that didn't make the person playing the game forced to feel something. This game could've been a masterpiece... sadly it ended up being a forgettable ok game that I would only play again for the visuals.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us 2 was an amazing game visually. It’s an amazing game at creating suspense and anxiety. When talking about it I’ve always said it’s not really that fun, but very engaging and stressful which Is fun to some people like myself. The problem for me with the last of us 2, was that it never really made me happy, which is the main reason I play story games. Games like Rdr2, Gow, or the original tlou made me very attached to the characters. In all of those games there are iconic and great moments that makes me feel like those characters feel. Real emotions. In tlou2, the only time I was happy was during the flashbacks with Joel. I could truly care less about abby. Seeing Joel alive was really the only thing. I really like Tommy as well and wish he was in the story more than he is. I can’t find myself to relate with almost any of the characters. As for Joel’s death, I hated it. I was very angry, and I think that’s what they wanted for sure. But Joel didn’t deserve to go out like that. He should’ve gone out defending Ellie from abby or something. Something like Arthur Morgan giving his life to save john marston. If you are really going to kill off a beloved character you have to do it in a good way. The beginning of the game is literally 2 lesbians smoking pot, and then killing Joel. I don’t think most of the people who bought the game care. As for a lot of people complaining about sjw stuff, yes it is in the game. It was annoying to me, but I’m more indifferent than anything. If it was a straight scene I could care less as well. I just want to play a fun and engaging game. Because of these factors like not relating to characters, just wishing the story was completely different, not really being happy at all while playing the game, I can’t rate it very high. This game was fantastic if you don’t care about story. But it’s a linear game (for the most part) and story is what matters. For me it’s a 6.5 out of 10. But I’m still mad about Joel’s death so I’m rounding it down. Expand

This is the strong point of TLOU2, and I can see why one might even go as far as to say it is the key feature of the game.
The level of detail is high, the environment feels very realized (for this kind of lineair experience) and it very much deserves the praise. However, as you go through the game you will notice more and more flaws, mainly in the form of the environment that does not make sense. I did not really felt the environment to be repetitive though.
The same can be said for animations, very good, but you'll notice flaws as the game goes on. But even considering those flaws, still great visuals.
Audio is not the greatest focus here as I think it was in the original. While certain audio cues certainly did enhance the experiences, I think this could be a bit better in terms of impact.

    Gameplay - 7/10 - Good
If you have played the original TLOU you know what to expect. I think it is fine.
I did not like the dodge mechanic. It is very strict, and the animations during combat show their repetitiveness very early on.
Gunplay is okay, but the sway makes it very difficult to make headshots - which is fine I suppose. You can modify your weapon to help you with this.
I did like the customization in the game. One aspect I would like to see improved is ammo capacity, by e.g. craft an extra ammo pouch for a few extra rounds as I felt many times I had to pass on ammo when I found it, because the game tells me I cannot carry more.
Stealth, which is what I mainly did, is good. You have more options now compared to the original game (like hiding in grass).
Weapons and crafting - as Ellie I feel you have several options in how you could handle an encounter if stealth doesn't work. It is expanded on compared to the original, and I did like the new items. Further in the game something changes, and I could not help but feel my options being reduced. I am not sure if this was the intent of the developer.

    Narrative/story - 3/10 - Bad
I loved it as much as I hated it. I won't go into detail, as this would require spoilers.
At the end of the first half, I wanted more of that. When the second half began, I was contemplating myself if I would continue. Never before did my opinion of a game change so fast. I chose to finish it but a thought of dislike for the game came up often.
In the first half it is somewhat like the original, likeable characters and here and there genuine good dialoge and events. These made me feel for the characters. Due to a certain event though some things are inconsequential, so I was not sure why the developer chose that structure. That could be better.
It did not help that in the second half, when some events happen, I did not feel anything for it. Not the characters, not the hardship they experience(d), etc.
When the credits rolled, I was not feeling anything. The second half really did hurt the whole narrative experience for me.
In the end, I hoped for much more than I was given from a narrative perspective. Because of how the events played out in terms of structure and inconsequential events, I feel this is worse than just a poor narrative, which is why I think this is a 3/10.

    Overall
6/10 - As said before I loved it as much as I hated it. Considering everything, this is a great game with a bad narrative. So if you like TLOU for it's narrative and dialogue/characters, I think chances are high you will leave this game with disappointment. So, as someone who loved TLOU, I find it difficult to recommend it.
If you like the gameplay and environment of the original and did not really care for the story/characters, then TLOU2 might be an excellent game for you.
If you are new to TLOU2, and you like a harsh post apocalyptic world, you might like this but do consider if the narrative is important for you. I would recommend to play the original TLOU first before considering the sequel.

The developper said this would be a divisive game. I really think the developpers underestimated the fanbase on this, in a bad way. I cannot understand how the decisions they made would be the best for the game or for the franchise.

Thank you for taking you're time to read this one opinion.

The game play, enemies, environment has improved exponentially but it has fails, the game makes you walk more to do time between scene and scene; if you aren't killing anyone or hiding from enemy the game makes you walk more than Death Stranding... and yeah the story... is like a big political banner, Ellie is nothing like the Ellie we meet in the first game and DLC and has no character development... kind of sad what they make to her. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first games story served its purpose but wasn't all that complex or intriguing. The gameplay was solid but not very innovative or all that exciting as a stealth action third person shooter. But what sold it and made it one of the greatest games of all time (besides the totally underrated multiplayer) was the characters they crafted. Even up until now, no game had created such fleshed out and believable characters with real motivations and interactions that actually made you care for them. Which is why it's such a disappointment in actually waiting seven years for this developer to bring us that same level of commitment to characters in the form of a sequel and utterly destroy every notion of character building that brought their first game such huge praise and success. And the "voices" of the industry want you to believe that if you don't like these characters, you're basically a hateful person and don't support inclusivity in the gaming medium. I have actually gotten arguments against me saying I'm not for representation in gaming because I don't like the game. This is an absurd conclusion to make because there are actually great games that have made many strides in representation in the gaming community that people praise, including myself. And one of them is the DLC for the previous game! The problem with the characters in The Last of Us Part 2 is not that they're too representative, it's that they're just not very well written. This is exactly what happened in Game of Thrones season 8. The need to subvert expectations overrode their ability to craft intricate characters and organic situations that would naturally bring them together. The first part of the game is just trying to find the fastest way to kill Joel so we can get to Ellie's revenge story. That's a problem because it leads to the contrived actions of characters they spent the entire last game showing you they wouldn't put themselves in. And when we get to the point of no return, the other group has to keep making dumb decisions just to keep the plot rolling. And no one points this out but just think how the first game took place over a year and how we grew to love and connect with those characters (and the ones they came in contact with) and you contrast it with this game that takes place over the course of ONLY three days then puts you back at the beginning of those three days just to do it over again. How can you expect the characters you create to form connections and bonds with someone after three days and then expect the audience to understand their motivations and reasoning? Then look back at how the originals pacing feels mostly right and hits its story beats while this sequel feels long and needlessly drawn out. Every time a "building in the distance" prompt came up it just keeps reminding you that you probably have hours more to go. What kind of storytelling is building up to a moment of conflict where the character you've been hunting for three days shows up at your doorstep only to have you immediately pulled out of the climax and into their shoes to show their side of things as a cheap emotional trick. And nothing Abby does pertains to Ellie and the overall story. She doesn't even know Ellie exists until the end of her third day. Her entire side story is largely inconsequential to the overall plot of the game. And you have all these story beats tied up in the most contrived situations imaginable. The person Abby has been searching for for four years is at the exact spot she is and saves her when she's about to be devoured by a horde. She kills him while Ellie watches and they don't think this group will come for them after they leave. Ellie and Tommy start hunting them down and it leads them to an aquarium where ELLIE LEAVES BEHIND A MAP SHOWING EXACTLY WHERE THEY ARE. They fight and Abby once again leaves them alive for no logical reason. A year later you have Tommy, someone who is supposed to care for Ellie, come and guilt her back to a revenge engrossed mindset. She tracks her down and has to rescue her so she can kill her, then let's her live because reasons. Ellie didn't learn anything. There was no resolution between the two. She had a flashback of Joel that prevented her from killing the person that brutally murdered him.... when she just spent the entire game shooting hundreds of people in the head who, according to the writing team, were just as good of people as they want u to believe Abby is and you never even gave a second thought about them. This game isn't bad, it's just a disappointment. It's a shame this is what the writers at naughty dog were making for seven years with the full intention of disappointing fans and they never took a step back to ask themselves if this story was necessary to tell for these characters and this world. I'd argue no and I wish I could somehow erase this game from my memory and let part one live on as a standalone experience that told the complete story of Joel and Ellie.

The variety of options for moving around and taking on enemies (from infected to people), with different weapons, stealth, attack, distractions and such is great.

However...... The Last of Us as a whole was built around a story, and a very deep story at that. The development of Joel and Ellie in game 1, surviving the world and challenges together gave the player a deep emotional connection to these characters and the storyline of the game as a whole. I feel The Last of Us Part II took a big **** on those characters and our connection as players to those characters. *SPOILERS BELOW*

There are definitely holes in the plot and in the character behavior itself, such as Joel and Tommy losing their survival instinct and skepticism that has kept them alive for the past 20+ years, and Ellie going on a nationwide manhunt, killing hundreds of people mercilessly just to decide against killing the one person shes after...

I do not mind the fact that Joel died, however it could have been done much better, and would have preferred it to happen later in the game. The biggest issue I found with the game was the fact that we were forced to play as Abby (Joel's murderer) and for such long periods. Not only that, but we also had to fight against Ellie as this character. I found this all to be a huge disrepect to the player and our bond with Ellie and Joel, and because of that it made the game unenjoyable to play through those parts (a solid 10-14 hours worth).

There were some real moments, especially between Ellie and Joel in flashbacks, and the emotion felt by her during the death but unfortunately the rest of the game and story overshadowed that.

In the end, my rating are as such:
    • Gaming = 10/10 (brilliant visuals, mechanics, sound and otherwise)
    • Story = 2/10 (a huge disrespect to the player, characters and survival dynamic)
    FINAL SCORE = 6/10

I went into this game apprehensively. I was concerned because Troy Baker wanted us to have an "open mind" going in. That's usually code for you're not going to like what you see here.

I knew about the leaks but I intentionally avoided all of them. So, other than the one comment from Troy, I was going in blind. Surprisingly, when the game started off I didn't have any issues with it.

I knew about the leaks but I intentionally avoided all of them. So, other than the one comment from Troy, I was going in blind.

Surprisingly, when the game started off I didn't have any issues with it. However, it soon became apparent that Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann had a scratch to itch with this game's story, characters be damned.

Neil has gone to Twitter and said that they won't pander to the fans of the original game, which is fine. Tell the story that you want to tell. If you want to tell a dark story, then do so creatively. If you want to take these characters on a journey into the pits of hell, then do so creatively. If you want to discuss how revenge makes monsters of us all, then do so creatively. What you don't do, is give us this story that is so amateurish in its execution that it was genuinely a chore to slog through.

It's almost as if ND engineered this story from the end and worked their way backwards. How do I get the characters here? Oh, well this has to happen and that has to happen regardless of whether it makes any sense or not. The plot should serve the characters not the other way around. This is why you have multiple characters behave in uncharacteristic ways just so ND can get to where they want to go with their story.

This same story could be told, even with all of its issues, in a much better fashion. How is it that the last game came out in 2013 and this is the best that they could do? This game's story drags the whole game down. I actually wanted the game to just end when I got to the farm. This wasn't because I thought that would be a good way to end the game. I simply wanted the game to end because I didn't care anymore. As a storyteller, I'm sure that's the last thing you want, but as a gamer I can tell you what I don't want: The Last of Us Part III. Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann made sure of that.

I really wanted to like this game. The first game was amazing, a 10/10 experience. I am by no mean a professional reviewer but even by my standards 10/10 scores are extremely rare.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    - Grande quantidade de NPCs e organizações mal desenvolvidas; Exemplo: Isaac, o líder da WLF, tem uma introdução pesada e depois uma morte banal;
    - Uma tentativa clara de recriar um sentimento de apego entre Abby e Lev nos moldes do primeiro jogo porém feito de uma forma nada realística (o primeiro jogo mostra 1 ano de convivência entre os personagens e não 3 dias...)
    - Diversas mortes “instantâneas” que parecem planejadas com a intenção apenas de causar um choque;
    - Os personagens centrais não dialogam entre si. A série nunca teve discursos longos, mas nem um breve grito de “o Joel matou meu pai!”? As protagonistas se encontram em pontos diversos e nem extravasam toda a carga emocional que se espera que esteja em pauta.

With that out of the way my personal score is a 6/10 the combat feels virtually the save a few extra gimmick like animals and such. The combat in the first game wasn’t the best but the story and writing carried it above what the combat was. However this game doesn’t have that luxury. The writing is unfortunately forced and contrived characters acting completely contrary to the previous game. And while time has passed the erratic nature of the time jumps is leaves the story feeling disjointed and unfocused. The games story often times has flashbacks with flashbacks. Creating a lack of cohesive focus. With the marketing focused on playing Ellie in reality playing another character for have the game. And that new character just isn’t written well. Combine that poor writing with obvious favoritism, she gets all the best combat sections, all the best weapons. I bought the game under the assumption that I’d be playing Ellie. This disconnect is caused by her killing Joel within the first hour. This was a terrible idea as it make us try to like a character that murdered the protagonist of the previous game we had gotten attached to. The Graphics while beautiful to me aren’t as important as gameplay, or a satisfying story. The forced nature of the story of what amounts to the theme of revenge and murder runs counter intuitive to the fact you can’t not kill people. The game seemingly wishes to judge you by making all of the deaths around you sound horrifying with gurgling noises, people calling for their mom. The fact the story has a, animal die to make the player feel bad when we learn who the owner was is just imposed by the fact we can’t not and Ellie has no way of knowing some random dog was someone else’s. This is why people dislike the game. The forced, and contrived nature of it. I never felt it could live up to the first because the bar was set too high. 6/10 the combat has little improvement, the graphics are beautiful, but poor pacing, writing, story, and character ultimately drags it down. It’s not a bad game and for the most part is competently made. The problem with subverting expectations is that you run the risk of alienating the audience you already have. Expand

The first game is so strong because it's a heartwarming father-daughter experience in a world void of any decency. That concept we all loved is intentionally stripped from the second game right from the beginning, with the exception of a few infrequent flashbacks that don't really add much to the plot after Joel is treated like a side character.

The first game is so strong because it's a heartwarming father-daughter experience in a world void of any decency. That concept we all loved is intentionally stripped from the second game right from the beginning, with the exception of a few infrequent flashbacks that don't really add much to the plot after Joel is treated like a side character.

Instead, TLOU2 focuses on a revenge narrative. It's about hate instead of love - a bold choice to go in the opposite direction. At times, we empathize with the characters and Ellie in particular, but ultimately it feels like senseless violence (which is the point) and we are meant to take an objective stance on it. There are also a few plot holes, instances of characters acting inconsistently compared to their behavior in the first game, character development occurring after the deaths of important people (in flashbacks), times when the player has to suspend disbelief, not too much additional lore, and a plethora of weird pacing issues. Some of it is very hard to get through because the characters we grew to love are treated like dirt and treat each other like dirt as well.

That being said, the story is highly controversial and simply not for everyone. Personally, it was a deal-breaker for me and left me feeling miserable. So much missed the mark for me that it would take up another review entirely for me to explain. The plot is a mess.

Additionally, at times the weight of each character's actions doesn't seem as real as in the first game because the survival element is a lot less prominent. Ellie can infinitely knife enemies or chop them to pieces. Abby is a complete badass with more strength than any of the male characters and an army on her side, although it's a bit weird how she can't find a knife for stealth too. The first game was just Joel and a kid (Ellie) versus the world. However, during certain segments while fighting the infected, there are some tough moments. It's a lot of fun playing as Abby in particular because her segments are so intense and varied.

The gameplay, animation, sound, music, voice acting, and graphics are all phenomenal. There are new crafting options, controls, and now there's vertical level design. Unfortunately, there's an overabundance of cutscenes and walking/horse-riding as opposed to actual combat to the extent that a lot of it feels like filler. The game doesn't even pick up until roughly 30 minutes in. I think the developers forgot they were making TLOU2 at times and not Uncharted 5 - not that Uncharted is bad by any means, but it's clearly a different series. And besides certain intense areas when you play as Abby, most of the game's chapters feel like random progression, whereas in the first game every segment was engaging and unique. Not too much is particularly memorable and the game overall is far too long for its own good.

One thing people wished was rumor (according to the leaks), but is unfortunately true, is the heavy implementation of progressive politics. I don't think most players care if a character is a lesbian, for example, but why make it central to her entire identity and the plot? On top of that, Abby is comically muscular, two other women are bisexual (one not shown in-game), there is a homosexual WLF enemy, and there's another new character who is a trans child. I found myself asking, "Is this a game about fungus zombies or sexual identity, feminism, and gender?" The LGBT community is so small, and yet in this universe, there's a massive over-representation of LGBT characters in a post-apocalyptic world, all converging in Seattle. It just doesn't make sense for a series that's known for its realism.

Still, even despite its flaws, this is an okay game with a lot of new content to offer compared to the first. It's far better without making the comparison. These are two entirely different games.

i would say the first 2/3s of the game is a great, a significant improvement on the first game in relation to everything, including it's storytelling capacity. but the last 10 hours or so of the game completely ruin the game as you start to notice its repetitive and shallow gameplay in the absence of engaging and focused storytelling.

by the end of it the game that you loved so is just a bloody, miserable slog that you can't wait to put down.

The gameplay is mediocre, almost a carbon copy of the first game, but with a few new guns. The game is twice as long though so it gets old quick. The graphics are some of the best on the PS4 and the Voice Acting is top notch, too bad the story is absolute crap. Your best game was driven by 2 characters people loved and you ruined them both Naughty Dog, on top of forcing players to do things they absolutely do not want to do for a significant portion of the game. The story of the game does not worth my waiting and expectation for years. This is not a story that I wanted, especially the ending part. I can feel in the entire game that how the writer hates the characters that we love deeply. How ridiculous and how ego the writer is to force the players to torture the characters that they love and force the players to make decisions that they do not want to do. It makes me sick to play the second half of the game.
I wouldn't give it a score below 5 because the graphic, the light, the flight and the battlefield do a fantastic job! But the story just break my heart. If there will be a Part III, I wouldn't be surprised that Part III is Abby story only, but that would be a game that I wouldn't give a glance at all.

I got stuck several times in the exact same ways I did in the first game. Finally I enjoy immensely the character inclusion for lbgt. The main issue for me is the structure of the story, I liked the different perspectives as you played through both characters, however the game did feel drawn out and you are forced to like Abby when in reality both sides are in the wrong. As someone who is in the LGBT community, I don’t believe the poor reviews are related to that at all or female characters, it is more the story structures and lack of choices you are given. Gameplay and some of the ideas are excellent, graphics and setting are incredibly beautiful in a dystopian way. Just a shame that it feels like the moral of the story overrides what the players wanted which is a satisfying and rewarding game over a “lesson”

The characters are boring and Ellie is nothing like she was in the first game. The constant flashbacks become tiring to the point where you start looking for ways to skip them. And the ending is just so.... nonsensical and unsatisfying.
However, it's stupid to gloss over some of the great parts of this game. The sound, visuals and enemy AI. The combat is good but hasn't changed much since the last game.
I think the reason why so many people hate TLOU2 is because of how invested they were in the original characters. Waiting 6 years to see them killed off and replaced with bland NPCs has got to sting. But I've got to say that I was expecting it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics are simply amazing. The gameplay...wasn't much different from the previous one, which was good but it was for a PS3 game. They could evolve it a little bit more. That being said I was satisfied with it plus it had a few "chase" parts that were simply amazing. Now storywise...that was the big issue. The game had it's heartwarming scenes that we were expecting but it was a little bit lacking from the get go. On the first one you saw the characters develop and slowly care for one another. With this one you have mainly a revenge story. You also had more than a few subplots that in my opinion were not needed. The relationship with Dina could be more explored and developed I believe if they didn't spend so much time on the "bbg" of the game Abby. I really didn't get the same emotions for her relationship with Owen as I got from Ellie and Dina. And frankly how could I? All I knew about her was that she mercilessly tortured and killed one of my favorite characters. When I fought Ellie while I was controlling Abby I kept losing because I didn't want to kill Ellie. We could understand why she did what she did but they shouldn't try so hard to make us like her. The fact that we undestand why she did it doesn't mean we can forgive or even forget it an then go on ahead and root for her. As for the whole LGBTQ agenda that many are saying. You already have Ellie (and since you decided to give her a love interest, Dina) which is nice. They are fleshed out charactera that their sexual preferences doesn't dictate their whole character. But when you meet Lev (who personally I liked as a character way more than I did Abby) it feels a bit forced. His whole story arc ia because he is (biologically speaking) a woman and as a result he suffers for it. And finally the end...well I really felt like I played for nothing. Abby got to live with Lev (most likely they went to the Fireflies) and Ellie got what? She lost Joel, she lost Dina and JJ. She lost her ability to play the guitar and express her emotions that way. So...why did I played through that story? Really unsatisfying ending. Tommy got injured for life, he ruined his marriage and he didn't get revenge for his brother. And Joel died. So everyone we came to love and wanted to see again after so many years got screwed over pretty bad. In every sense and in every way. While the "villains" of the story got on top. Sure Abby lost her love Owen but she can rebuilt her life and find someone else. Lev lost his sister but he got another "sister" in Abby and both found a new life with each other and propably with the Fireflies. I know someone said that she was bit but she really didn't show it. Anyone who is bitten looks way worse and is suffering. Even if she was bitten that makes it an even worse end because she leaves with Lev...so what? She'll turn on the boat and eat him? Let's say that they HAD managed to make me like Abby. With such an ending I would be furious! Amyway, I know that a point this game and this story was trying to make was that as with life here as well things are not just black and white. Ellie actually did exactly what Abby did. But I really didn't need to see characters I loved this much suffer for no reason. There was no catharsis. Shame for such a great story to end up like that. My score is 6.4 (there are no decimals so 6) mainly because of the technical aspects of the game and for the really emotional flashbacks Ellie was having (both good memories and bad). Expand

This is one of the most disappointing games of this year. The story sucks, (most of) the new characters suck, the old characters seem almost completely different to what the first game established and the game drags way to hard. The game does get a lot right however: Its beautiful, the art direction is fenominal, the animation is amazing, it's the peak of visuals this console generation and there isn't a single issue there. Regardless of bad writing all the voice acting is superb. The gameplay in the first 14 hours (i played on hard, time of play can scale depending on difficulty) is amazing, there was enough changed made to the gameplay loop in my opinion to make it feel fresh after the first game. However after the midway mark the game really starts to drag and the gameplay starts to get repetitive, so the obvious solution here would be to tie up the game with one last final boss? or a last giant combat zone like the first game? NOPE! Instead why don't you start all over again as a new character with no upgrades or gear. Oh and that second section really killed the enjoyment for me, they really try to make you care about a character that you don't like (spoiler, they fail at making you like her) and her gameplay sections are boring (with the ONE exception of the skyscraper rooftop section, that was fun) which kills since you have to play 14 more hours of this. Oh and the ending! Its terrible! The entire game was for nothing! At the end of the first game you felt like you went on this giant adventure and that the charterers had made some huge consequential decisions! Whereas the last of us 2 feel's like you took the start of the game, deleted a few charecters, deleted a few fingers and then for like 5 minuets added a baby! NOTHING HAPPEN'S!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and don't even get me started on the plot armour! They try to mimic Joel's injury from the first game with Ellie near the end. In TLOU1 Joel's injury was used to drive the story, it showed how much Ellie cared for him and how desperate she was to save him which built up their characters immensely! In TLOU2 its used as an excuse for Ellie to stumble and complain in a few sections. This is one of many examples that shows nothing matters in the last of us 2.

So I tired very hard to like this game being such a huge fan of the first one I played it twice to see if I would enjoy it more the second time.... Not really honestly my rating is a 6.5 but it won’t let me. While I loved the graphics and some aspects of the game were very fun a lot of it just got old. Since most of the game takes place in Seattle everything looks the same so trying to remember where stuff is (hidden stashes) for extra play throughs is difficult. The quasi open world part of the game in the beginning was pretty fun. The fight system was better then the first but still had some problems and has been done better by 100s of other games. The worst part of this game is the story with massive plot holes and characters making choices that just doesn’t make sense. Also having us play as the other female character in this to try and see her side was boring she is not relatable or even a decent person. I found myself trying to rush thru her part to get back to Ellie even tho the game was trying very hard to make her the villain. The diversity in the game was a great idea but didn’t really work out the way I think naughty dog intended it was to on the nose and none of the characters were honestly likable anyone could of played their parts and it would have been the same story. Then the games ending made ZERO sense at all she had a flash back making her pursue Abby... then had another flash back after saving Abby telling her she needed to kill her then after she almost kills her and has her fingers bitten off she has another flash back telling her to let Abby go.... so she gave up everything she had to kill Abby then just let her go...lol. There is no closure in the game making the games replay ability very low which sucks since the first I could, and still can play over and over again. So graphics 10/10...combat solid 7 or 8 story a 4 it was bad....But if you enjoyed the game then you win honestly not worth 60 bucks to me but if I had bought it for 30 a year later I would probably feel better about it..... EDIT: So back months later to see if another play through would change my mind.... It didn’t.... Still a solid 6-6.5 at best. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I adored the first game. From the powerful characters to the strong and compelling narrative and the bond between Ellie and Joel. This game nowhere near lives up to the legacy of its predecessor, to say the least. This game has completely abandoned Ellie and Joel's bond by killing Joel in the crudest most disrespectful fashion imaginable. Joel's premature death was done for nothing more than shock value. On top of this, the game forces you to play with the character who killed the former beloved protagonist for half of the game. It just doesn't make any sense! The game in no way allows you to resonate with Abby's character prior to her irredeemable act which IMO prevents the player from caring about Abby's storyline at all. The game overall attempts to manipulate your emotions into revering Abby as the hero of the story through her flashbacks and sequences and making you resent Ellie, a character whom you have grown to love so very much from the first game.

Both Ellie and Abby's choices in the game felt so very out of character for both of them. What little character they did have in this game. The story does little to make you feel enthralled in their choices as more and more time passes they just kept getting more and more predictable. The decisions that Ellie made in the game clearly had a traumatizing effect on her (Certainly not a fan of how they handled any of the this). But Abby, on the other hand, felt no remorse for any of her actions and dismissed them all as if they meant nothing. Abby's quest for revenge was successful and yet seemed to have no effect on her, yet Ellie's left with her with nothing which is just weak writing and doesn't make sense. As I aforementioned they try to make you venerate Joel's murderer over Ellie so they leave Abby with everything and Ellie with nothing but pain and misery.

The ending is just goddamn absurd. Ellie spends all of this time, builds all of this effort, kills all of Abby's friends (including Mel who was pregnant regardless of self-defense), yet in the end, she couldn't bring herself to kill the one person responsible for Joel's murder. It just feels so vague and pointless at that point. The game's theme is shallow in comparison to the first game. I mean ending the cycle of revenge is just cliche and isn't portrayed properly in this game in general. None of this is what the first last of us represented. The first game offered a much more in-depth meaning that resonates with the player.

*Now some good parts to the game*

Graphics: These are some of the best graphics I have ever seen on the PS4 hardware and IMO is second to none. From the beautifully crafted environment to the attention of detail on each surface.

Music: While I feel the theme and atmosphere of the game were shallow you can't deny the beauty of the music in the game.

Gameplay: This game offers little to no innovation to the combat system or companion Ai. But it does however improve enemy AI dramatically. This games Ai's are able to flank change cover well etc.

Flashbacks: The game offers several flashbacks of Ellie and Joel's adventures subsequent to the first games ending. While taunting they were the only things left of what made the first game so great.

That's it for my review. This was incredibly hard for me to make as I completely venerated the first game. BUT I hope you understand my point of view.

    *Bad Parts*

Plot holes: Several inconsistencies to several characters

Characters: Characters in this game are poorly developed (some aren't even fully developed) and do not encompass everything necessary to be distinctive or interesting in any way to the player.

Character Development: All characters simply do not change throughout the story and remain static which shatters the Character's development in general.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am so disappointed with this game, I had high expectations for this game but the game didn't meet it. I always like to start on a good note, so let's start with that. First, I honestly feel this is the best graphics the PS4 can produce, Uncharted 4 impressed me so much but this game takes the win. I didn't experience no glitches and no slowdown, I do want to bring up that was I was playing this on the PS4 pro. The gameplay mechanics are very familiar to anybody who's played the first game, very easy to pick up and play. The game is one of the few triple A games that has a lengthy campaign and no lootboxes waiting for you to help you progress, aside from the different game versions you can purchase in the beginning. Now the bad side. the story is so convoluted and has no fluidity. I don't understand how they can come up with a great story with the first Last of Us and come up with this story that makes no sense. Our favorite characters from the last game are put in the back burner, and we are forced to play a hallow character that has no depth. If you're going to kill a main character, at least make a good story that flows in to it rather than just killing a character for the shock factor. Another negative to the game is the monotony of scavenging and crafting, I did not look forward to scavenging to upgrade my weapons since I figured it out earlier that Abby gets all the good equipment and Ellie doesn't get crap, at least distribute the weapons evenly. Overall, if I knew what I know now, I would not buy this day one. Learn from my mistake and wait for this game to go on sale and keep your expectations low as far as the story and replayability. This game has seriously made me think twice about buying another Naughty Dog game since I feel like they don't know how to tell a story anymore. Makes me sad that well respected companies like Naughty Dog pander to the SJW culture at the cost of losing loyal customers. Expand

Right from the start you can tell that blood, sweat and tears were put into this game. The game is absolutely stunning when it comes to its graphics and cutscenes. From little details like characters playing with their fingers, to nervously shaking their leg. The emotions characters can envoke through their facial expressions and live eye movements is incredible, something that I see a lot of games lack. The actors do a tremendous job in bringing these characters, old and new, to life in the game's cutscenes and conversations. The atmosphere can really be felt here in almost every area of the game. Even the smallest sound can make you quickly paranoid. Every footstep, glass smashed and shot fired sounds good. The soundtrack of the game is great, although dramatically underused. When it comes to gameplay, I feel like they have built upon it enough for it to be satisfying and fun for the most part. This game is meant to be played on Survival difficulty, if you really want to experience the desperateness of your every move and struggle for survival. Every shot missed is an opportunity lost. The scarcity of the resources make you cherish what you craft and how to best use it to your advantage. At times the choices have to be made quickly with no time to contemplate, adding to the experience.

Now come all the things the game has not done very well. Right of the bat the game decides to go in a direction that changes the atmosphere from then to the end. It never feels the same after the first few hours. The events that happen are not handled very well as the game doesn't let you sink your teeth back into the returning characters. The game mostly focuses on the new characters, dramatically, affecting the way you feel about returning ones at times. Even after knowing that the actors have done a great job some scenes and dialogue seem to fall flat at times. Not making sense, or doing and/or saying something totally out of character. You don't spend much time with the characters you would like to spend time with. Story doesn't seem to be as sharply written, and that really hits hard.

The back half of the game makes you play as this new character that I didn't care much about. Finding myself bored throughout the second half of the game. Although they introduce a handful of characters, I did not care for any of them as well as for the story they were telling. It turned into a game that I just wanted to be over and done with. Although, I do think that people that have never played the first game could find this game extremely fun from start to finish and enjoy the story. I see what they were trying to go for in this game, but it just did not hit the mark. For me, it's a one and done.

First 12 hours shows Ellies revenge and after that we play as Ebby 10 hours... I think better play in turn as Ellie and Ebby. We understand motivation of both characters, but in the first fight of both charecters, I had questions - "What just happend? I've just played as Abby... and why?? Game needed showed only 1 hour for Abby and what she is going to do and other 25 hours gameplay as Ellie! Why??". Gameplay as Abby at the fifth hour became SO BORING. I didn't care about asian kids, but I understood, Neil wanted show, how Abby becaming better. I thought we will see something new... but we get **** by Naughty Dog. They added couple monsters and dogs... Ok new aim for bow it is that, what I've really like of new things. I replayed first part and after that completed second part and there is only 1 big difference is graphic. I waited for that final, what I thought. For me Joel revealed more selfish, end of first game is not right and Joel standed him. Main problem is, than you play and play, but you get bored and start play another game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel like this game had left me torn, it's not as bad as some people make it out to be, and there are things to be enjoyed in this game overall. The atmosphere, environments, and music are beautiful, making this a solid game but where TLOU2 falls flat is with its story and its characters.

The game is centered around Ellie and Abby's quest for vengeance, and while we see Abby get hers we don't see Ellie get her own closure. Considering Naughty Dog's message I feel like Ellie should've killed Abby at the end but still lost the things she loved as a consequence of her actions.

For Abby, I feel Naughty Dog really wanted us to like her as a character by trying to humanize her especially with her inclusion with Lev. While I enjoyed their interactions, it would've been better to make her more of a flawed character. If Naughty Dog still wanted to uphold the message that "vengeance isn't the way" then I feel she could be a flawed character that does bad things, feels guilty about it but at the same time tries to do good things in order to redeem herself (ex. Having Lev escape Santa Barbara while she fights Ellie). However, that doesn't erase the actions she committed and in the end, as her actions would end up catching up with her.

If they wanted to make a message about vengeance then they should've had us kill Abby but made us realize that vengeance is only temporary closure and doesn't erase the pain, and loss that we have to feel because it doesn't bring the people we love back and that there are consequences to seeking for vengeance such as death and destroying the people you love around you.

I also feel this story lacks cohesiveness compared to the first and that is due to the constant backtracking we have to do in these flashbacks. If Naughty Dog were to make the events in TLOU2 go in chronological order, not only would that make the game longer but give us more moments between characters such as Ellie and Joel.

The Last of Us 2 tries to make a story about vengeance and how it has its consequences, but its resolution is unsatisfying. I believe as Ellie they should've shown more of her stages of grief with Joel, but also we should receive that resolution that both have made amends with one another about Joel's actions in the first game. However, the end of the game made me feel like we don't get any closure for Ellie's character nor we get any acceptance that Joel is truly gone leaving me empty and a bitter taste in my mouth.

Overall, I thought TLOU2 was a solid game but it falls flat with its the message and its storytelling that could use a couple of fixes. If Naughty Dog is planning to make a sequel, I'll be interested, but I'll probably not buy it.

Some light environmental puzzles and a whole bunch of resource scavenging round out the simple but effective post apocalypse gameplay. These parts of the game are a big improvement over Part I. Unfortunately the story in Part II is much worse. The writers try very hard to make the audience sympathize with the new main character Abby but it just doesn't work. The story takes a lot of wrong turns, spends too much time on side quests, and really drags during the second half. Ellie sits out the two best boss battles in the game. They try to be 'deep' with this game, but didn't commit to the writing I doubt they ever questioned themselves. A good theory is the director and the writers were just ego struck, this type of thing happens a lot. This game is above average game play wise, i was constantly on the edge of my seat in combat, fully emerged in the beautifully crafted world, but the story didn't do justice. Half the game seems like a DLC that no one asked for, and as a player who went in knowing nothing of the leaks or even trailers... I was so disappointed. I don't want to play as Abby after she kills Joel, which instantly made her the villain to me. The constant Abby = good Ellie = bad is borderline offensive. Abby pets dogs? Ellie kills them. Ellie kills a pregnant lady and instantly regrets and is mortified by her actions, while Abbys gets to say "good" to Dina's with a knife to her throat. And again, you want me to sympathize for these character. After all that they did, and all that their friends did. I don't care how sweet the Owen character is after i killed him 4 hours ago. I just don't care. The gameplay is good, so its above a 5. The original was a 10/10 in my opinion, and the lack of a good story here brings it down 4 points instead of the usual 1 for my reviews. Killing off your main character, the character people connect with and love is a mistake. Sorry for the Telltale walking dead spoiler, but killing Lee to play as cutsie Clementine was a mistake and killing Joel so Ellie takes stage is one too. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. I feel like I just lost a good friend. Without going into a ton of detail, the story almost completely misses the mark for me personally. Poor pacing, inconsistent and unbelievable character motives and behaviors, plot holes and coincidences galore, baffling plot decisions...it's just such a shame. To be clear, despite those problems, it's not a bad story. It's quite good in some ways. But the direction was just way off for me personally.

The animation, voice acting, level design, and world they've created are amazing. Gameplay gets tedious and grueling, but I can deal with it. The only problem with the game is the story, but that's really its big pull. I don't know how they could get the original so right and the sequel so wrong. Also, I had no problem with any of the supposed "SJW" elements in the game. They didn't feel like a focus and didn't detract from the story.

Honestly, I'm not at all interested in the Last of Us' world anymore. I don't even think I would play a part 3, and I hope they don't make one. Maybe after the shock wears off I'll feel differently. I hope Naughty Dog licks their wounds and learns from their mistakes on this one. Lots of people love the direction the game's story took. I can only say I can't disagree more.

Overall the gameplay, graphics, the performance by the characters, and music are superb and should be applauded for years to come. Unfortunately, the main purpose and drive of the story was very poorly executed. I can see where the developers are going in terms of what they wanted out of the story, but it just was not well thought out. The pacing was terrible and honestly the entire time I was playing after a big main characters death, it was just a drag to play. I felt depressed but also at the same time bored and not intrigued by what was happening in the storyline. What kept having me come back to the game was a game play because it was so good. I understand that you lose everything after revenge, but the way the story of revenge was organized felt pushed and non-deserved. There were also many points in a story There were also many points in a story where there was just to many things the gamer had to “believe in” in order to drive the storyline forward that made me scratch my head and think, this is what a writer who probably makes over a million dollars a year decided to mark into his/her script? Well, I hope in part 3, the story can be saved in some sort of way. Until then, this sequel has left a bad taste in my mouth. However, people should still play this game for the gameplay. It will be remembered for years to come. Expand

The problems arise mainly with the story and its pacing. Joel's death 2 hours into the game was a big turn off and it only went down hill from there. The new characters are barely fleshed out or give little reason to actually care about their stories. Overall I want to give this game ever chance to impress me and be open minded. But it just didn't live up to the fist and it never will. Expand

The main problem for me is last of us 2 does not respect the main characters from the last game and on top of that adds new characters which trust me you will not care about (NO SPOILERS) . The reason that i have given 6 is that the game has AAA level of Animations, Graphics and also some very cool Uncharted like set pieces but with the wrong character.

I went into the last of us 2 without seeing anything leaked. I enjoyed the begining of the game and up to the conflict of Abby killing Joel. I didn't mind Joel dying specifically but the problem is playing as the person who brutally killed that person is a bit hard for me to get over. I will be honest I turned my game off and haven't played anymore so I will do my best with a number that fits with what I've now watched and played. The game looks beautiful and the music is nice but the story at least up to the character switch is okay. After that I had to watch someone play because I couldn't. I would give this game a 5.5 but I'll round up for the sake of fairness. Expand

Only 3 of the new characters are actually sympathetic. The rest are a bunch of murdering hypocritical psychopaths. The story focuses on themes anyone with an ounce of sympathy or empathy knows. The shambler is really cool with his smoke shooting and the stalkers are creepy as hell. Scared the **** out of time the first time I was rotating the camera and saw it and then quickly went back and it was gone. The human -enemies are also very good. Their ai is one of the best I’ve seen. They work together and communicate. They feel like a real group with their call outs and the way they all have names. -exploration is much better is this game also. The areas are bigger and feel way more open. There are a ton of cool things you can miss completely if you don’t explore. Cons- the story. While for the most part I enjoyed it there are 2 parts which I did not like. The big one near the beginning with the character we all came to love. I’m not mad it happened as I expected for a while it was to happen. I just don’t think it was executed in the right way. It was just to convenient. Served up perfectly on a platter and handed over. It seems to unlikely that he would be the one to be right there at that exact second to be a hero and then lead to then lead to the group no questions asked while they are in their territory. The second part I did not like was the ending. It just makes the whole game, every thing that happened and every thing you lost seem completely pointless. You have no issue doing what you do and to who the entire game and then suddenly at the end you do? I think it would of been much better if you were given the choice of weather or not to do it.

Now before i begin i just want to say that this review is going to have 3 sections. 1st section is Ellie's campaign. 2nd section is Abby's campaign and the 3rd one is an overall score

    1) Ellie's campaign
I could understand why they killed off joel at the start setting it as the basis for her whole revenge storyline. However, i would have personally preferred if they had spent the intro trying to build abby's back story and character more before we actually play her campaign later on. And i would have preferred for dina to have died instead to have more of a revenge for my lover storyline but i digress.

The environment and the graphics were amazing and some of the scenes got me right in the feels especially the guitar scene in the music shop when ellie was singing ill be gone. I really like the open world nature of Seattle Day 1 for ellie's portion of the campaign. I feel that they could have pushed the boundaries further with regards to the world being a bit more open in seattle day 2 and day 3. I like how the game progressively introduces the various new monsters and stakeholders into the game and ellies dialogue with dina feels very natural and organic. One of the few gripes i have is obviously when jessie suddenly appeared and said "do you think ill let you do this on your own" which was joel's line in the trailer. Would have preferred if it was maybe tommy or if she ran off on her own and dina found her later on would have made more sense. The flashbacks for ellie's campaign are incredible too especially the dinosaur museum scene. My last gripe is i felt they killed of jessie too fast and they didnt do enough justice to the character.

For Ellie's campaign alone i give it a solid 8.5/10.

    2) Abby's Campaign
Now here comes the controversy. As i mentioned above, had the developers spent more time developing abby's back story and character in the introduction i may have cared a bit more for the character and would have been more immersed in their story. But because the background wasnt well developed at the start i literally felt nothing for Abby and to add fuel to the fire it was her who so cruelly killed off joel. I understand from a creative point of view why the developers did it this way but from a fan's point of view it was really horribly done. As a fan i really couldnt buy into it and whats more they made us play half of the whole damm game as abby. And the ending in the theatre whereby you have to beat ellie up broke my heart so bad and made me even more pissed at naughty dog. All these negatives aside abby's campaign does have one strong positive. Its locations and set pieces. The stadium at the start of the campaign looks gorgeous and who will ever forget that massive boss fight in the hospital or that never ending descent from a skyscraper of a building, searching that shipwrecked ship or scar island for that matter. Btw i did feel that they could have done something more with scar island like making it a bit more open worldish. Yara and Lev's story was unnecessary in my opinion and felt very much like filler to add to the runtime. My score for Abby's campaign is a 5.5/10. Simply because i couldnt give a **** I literally just rushed through her entire campaign. 3) Overall
For the gun and crafting mechanics there really arent that many changes. There are some new bombs and new weapons you can use but thats about it. Stealth combat is pretty much the same. The mechanics are kinda outdated somewhat for 2020 but i dont really have a gripe with it because the mechanics do work as they are intended to and sometimes dont fix what aint broken is the way to go. For the training manuels and skill tree i did want something abit more diversified and different other than just increasing my listening distance or increasing my crafting speed. For the ending, it was not satisfying at all. There was no proper payoff so like after chasing abby for the whole game Ellie just lets her live. It made me feel like i wasted my time. Final score 6.5/10

Although technically it is awesome, the story and narrative is really weak and incoherent. The Last of Us was not only good graphics but a good story that did not insult the gamers.

It is quite disappointing that with the talent of people in Naughty Dog this was at the end the result, Druckman as director should think about it and its own role during the development.

The last of us 2 is not what I expected and definitely doesn't fill my cravings for a satisfying sequel to the amazing first game.
The sound design is actually one of the better aspects of this game. The ost is on par with the first game, with the acoustic performances and the slow country style music. The movie thriller style progressing music was also a good addition. The game is pretty long, takes you about 25 hours to complete with moderate roaming around. There is no multiplayer or extra mode but you can redo any encounter without actually playing through the chapter all over again. There is also a new game plus option to play through the story again with the gear you collected on a higher difficulty.
The next best aspect along with sound are the graphics and the overall fidelity. The level designs and structures are all very highly detailed. This is probably the best work naughty dog has put out yet in terms of the technical aspects. The infected design, the NPC design, the foliage, the buildings and the animals in the game all look phenomenal. There is no doubt this is one of the best looking games on the ps4 hands down. My only complaints might be the sometime blurry textures and the always on film grain takes out clarity.
The first half of the game I was actually enjoying playing through this game with it's somewhat of a sandbox style gameplay. But as I progressed further I started to get bored from it and it became very repetitive. Things I liked about the combat was tight encounters in which you had to shuffle around with your gear, the addition of dogs adds a flare of tension but it sucks to kill them poor things, the dodge and jump buttons allow for maneuverability and layers of level design e.g different floors in a building, several skills that can be rewarding for making the game slightly easier, weapons are quite different and each pack a different punch and strategizing to set up traps and take on stealth. The game also features quite more side content and exploration options to find upgrades, supplies and collectable items to add a much needed open feel to a game like this. The A.I is not bad but it certainly isn't great, the enemies do react to their surroundings by calling out names of their fallen comrades but still they go and do the same mistakes that got them killed in the first place. The game isn't very challenging as well as you have so much at your disposal with plenty of ammo and you always have supplies to craft med kits. The hand to hand fights in this game are a joke as it's just you doing the same exact pattern like a kindergarten child over and over again until the enemy dies. There are some memorable set pieces with vehicles and the infected which might be worth playing again. Overall the gameplay is improved but isn't very strong compared to other games out now and gets very boring, tedious and repetitive.
The story is all over the place, the game tries very hard for you to feel bad about some characters and fails miserably. This game also made me feel a lot of times why the hell am I even doing this and what's the point of this, especially at the ending. The new characters are boring, dull, generic and cringeworthy that you never care about them ever. The game also forces you to play through the main villain of the game for so long. The decisions they took are very controversial and may be good plot points but the way things are paced and handled they mess up big time. The game could get a lot better if they shuffled some things out and ran it differently. The thing I hate the most is the fact that the game forces unlikable characters down your throat and drags to long to make sure you swallow it like a good boy. The story goes out so long and a point comes when you are like just end this BS already I have better things to do I don't care who dies or what happens. At the ending you are left with hating yourself for wasting so much time for a turning event but all you get is some foreshadowed BS. There is one scene …. A sex scene that made my eyes pop out and leave the country because they were mad what I just saw through them. The main protagonist Abby looks like a total steroid she hulk Godzilla of a woman and her body is no doubt made like a man with a woman's face and voice to it. There are death scenes which are rushed and some of them have zero weight to them like WTF the original game had so much emotional impact from them.
The Last of us 2 is the most disappointing game I ever played in my life. The original was one of my top 10 favourite games of all time and it absolutely demolished my heart to see how it treats its fans. This is a game that gets progressively boring and repetitive as you play and the story is an absolute dumpster fire. It looks pretty, the sound design is great and some set pieces are good but overall is not a very great and fulfilling package. It is probably the worst game Naughty dog and Niel Druckman has ever put out.

The director relies on Joel and Ellie too much because he thought people wouldn’t buy the game if there is no Joel and Ellie as playable character. There are so much potentials in this game so I am sad how poorly the director organized the story. The Last of Us is a very liner game so I didn't expect much of a sandbox open world game. But the second level of the game takes you in the begining of Settle riding on horse back. Seeing and visiting almost every building you see with a clear objective was incredible. However as the levels continue the map of the new area become smaller and smaller to the point of going back to the original game roots. This makes the game experience lacking compered to what they could of done vs what they actually did. The level designs ranges about 3 hours per new area you visit but is it fun and exciting. Yes you do have some areas you can visit but getting through each area are the same as the last one you entered. Either kill all the enemies or sneak by them. Rise and repeat for 5 more times. This process made the game longer to fit a big game title but for enjoyment that answer is no.
The story process by you playing as Ellie and after each brief you are awarded a flashback. These flashback are tells the time Ellie spend with Joal but provide very little in both gameplay and plo. After half of the came you play as Abby and again like Ellie after each you'll get a flashback or a new feature are dreams which just like the flashback provides almost nothing. Each flashback can be explained in the story by simpling having character talk to each other. In fact the whole story of revange can be resolved by having character talk it out with each other.
If you think the game is slow, taxing, and boring just wait for the ending. This game likes how it looks so much that it will linger on which several minutes has pass so you can enjoy it rather than playing the game. This creates an illusion that you are finished with this game, throw away some trash, use the restroom, get a snack and there's another scene apparently.
In short The Last of Us part 2 is a good game but not a Last of Us good game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ever since The Last Of Us released seven years ago, fans have been waiting eagerly for a continuation to Joel and Ellie's story. Now that the sequel has finally been released and I have consumed all the content I can from the game, I can now say that The Last Of Us Part 2 not what many expected.

There is a lot of good and bad in this game. Like usual, Naughty Dog has given us a game that is visually amazing to look at. The set pieces (especially in Seattle Day 1) look amazing and really immerse you into the game's world. Gustavo Santaolalla did as brilliantly on the soundtrack for this game as he did the last. The soundtrack is something I could listen to all day. Gameplay-wise, it's very similar to the first. There are some improvements but definitely not outstanding ones. The gameplay is good nonetheless.

Now the story, oh boy the story. It saddens me what an udder disappointment the story was. If you were a huge fan of the first game like me, you will certainly not like way this game's story goes. Killing off a main character in any media only works when it's done well. We learn in the first game that Joel doesn't trust many people. He understands how people work in this new world any does anything to survive. He would not just walk into a building with random survivors he just met and tell them his name. Joel dies in the most disrespectful way possible most likely because of laziness from the writers. I do not have a problem with Joel dying, it is simply the way he died that annoys me and many others. Abby is a whole other story. The second half of the game shoves the idea of Abby actually having reasons to kill Joel down your throat. I liked her relationship with Lev and Yara and I liked weirdly liked parts of her story. The problem is, it goes on for too long that I started to get bored.

I could go on and on about the problems with Abby's story but I just don't want to. I wish this game was restructured so that maybe I would enjoy it more.

The Last Of Us Part 2 is a game that looks visually stunning with a beautiful soundtrack right beside it and gameplay that kept me excited, but it's unfortunately brought down by the lacklustre story that feels like to it goes on for too long.

    Verdict - 6/10

I just can't like Abby no matter what. Naughty dog tries so hard to make us love her but its sooo forced it just doesnt land. The story in general was lacking and comes down as one of the many revenge stories and not a good one at that. But as I said before I have nothing but praise to the folks at Naughty dog. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. [SPOILER ALERTS] Rating 6/10

This game simply looks and sounds incredible and as an RPG lover, the first few scenes just make you stop, look around and rejoice at how lucky we are to have games that can look and feel like this.

The playing style picks up pretty much where it left off with the benefit of jumping, swimming and crawling for all characters. The jumping and falling can feel a little clunky if i'm being picky, the swimming works well although perhaps could have been utilised more. The crawling/proning is the best of the new skills and as a stealth type player really enjoyed the benefits and options this added to my playing style.

The scavenging and artifacts are exactly the same, if you're into it, great, if not, you can bypass most of it. I guess there is only so much you can do here, so not too bothered by the lack of development.

I was disappointed with changes made with player and weapon upgrades. The player upgrade system is muddled and frankly becomes a mute point to the game. Your upgrades just don't become noticeable or of any real value, especially compared to the amount of work and exploring it takes to build up enough resources. I felt like could have completed the game on Hard setting without any player upgrades making the whole point of it redundant.

Weapon upgrades again i felt didn't really offer too much given the amount that needs to be scavenged. It was less muddled than player upgrades but felt the new swanky visuals of upgrading your weapons was the best part.....which says a lot.

The situations/ scenarios you find yourself in can be hit and miss. Some I really enjoyed, some seemed under or over developed.  Massive open spaces with literally nothing to do or too regularly were just used and some kind of ambling dialect storyline type section to avoid excessive cut scenes. Then you'd be swept into a sudden stronghold of infected or factions. Then you'd be back to another cut scene or dropped into a completely different character/timeline altogether. It all felt very inconsistent.

So for me the technical side was amazing but the playthrough was too jumbled.

Then there is the storyline. In my opinion, its biggest downfall. I was initially fully engaged with the game, mouth open and slightly traumatised by Joel's sudden departure. It was a shock and awe approach of which I was gutted, but thought they'd bring us back in line with some timeline and character (Ellie & Joel) swapping.  What we got was 3/4 of the game completely detached from the two very players and relationship you fell in love with during part 1.

As much as the game was a spectacle to play for the most part, I just didn't want to be playing it!  The best way I can describe the feeling of sheer disappointment is that I could only have really enjoyed this game if i had never played part 1.

Joel is tossed from the game, cast aside to make way for new characters, his role in the game is literally reduced to cut scenes. Ellie gets very little character development other than a bitter protagonist on a revenge rampage. She still ends up with everyone she loves either being killed or leaving her, which just leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. Although you play as Ellie I still felt, like Joel, her best bits all come from cutscenes. Their relationship was just used as toilet paper for the rest of the new adventures. There really is nothing else I can say. They completely messed this dynamic up. It's very sad.

For me, this made any viable buy-in to Abby and her narrative completely tarnished. I was only able to enjoy Abby's storyline in small pockets, ruined by either the jumping around of timelines or by the return of the disappointment I felt at how much they were messing this game up.
Abby's storyline really should have been a DLC and seperate story, much like we got in part 1. You could have engaged with it better, as you'd be prepared to work through it from the other side of the storyline. It was topical, relevant and groundbreaking but ultimately underwhelming because your heart wasn't in it.

Abby and Lev essentially become what Joel and Ellie were in part 1 only with a less stereotyped set up. Personally I think the poor handling of Ellie and Joel completely distracts you from the new storyline and characters.  It should have been something profound but they end up missing that target too. You let Abby get killed, fall off ledges, want her to fail, all because you haven't waited 7 years to play the person who tortured and killed Joel. It just didn't work.

I can't get over how much they let go of the gold dust they created in part 1. It could and should have been so much better.

So my heart wants to bomb the rating as it misses so much. But take away the  emotional attachment from part 1 and it is a stunning looking, dark game with some barrier breaking, brilliant sections.

Jugabilidad 8/10
    Paisajes 10/10
    Música 8/10

FYI, I played the game to completion - Platinumed it even, so I have every right to criticize it as I've seen everything it has to offer. In short, this game is a far cry from the masterpiece that is its predecessor. They tear away everything you loved about the first game and shove some new, twisted narrative in your face that just doesn't resonate. The story is just waaaaay too far off base from the first one and here's why:
    1. They absolutely DISGRACE the characters. Joel is just treated like a **** and killed within the first two hours. The guy you literally spend the majority of the game playing as in TLOU1. This is a huge mistake because he should've lasted at least half-way through the game, as it's the moments between him and Ellie that really make TLOU. I was expecting him to die, but not like that. He deserved a somber, heroic death. Probably protecting Ellie or something like that — but if only his death made logical sense! You’re telling me by pure chance he finds Abby, and then he and Tommy walk into a room full of strangers, unarmed, and proceed to disclose their real names and where they’re from? Who does that?! Especially when you consider how on edge Joel was in the first game - you can’t trust anyone in this world. There’s also Jessie who we all got to like then he was just shot in the face out of nowhere, and before we could internalize it - BOOM flashback. We never really get to go back and see the characters remorse about Jesse. I feel he was only included as a catalyst for the story in getting Dina pregnant.
    2. The latter half of the game sucks. The story comes to a screeching halt when Abby finds Ellie and the gang, then you have to wait like 8-10 **** hours to continue the present day story. What's most infuriating is most of Abby's segment is irrelevant. Who cares about Yara and Lev? Seriously? They just show up out of nowhere and we're forced to start liking them. And the stupid romance with Owen, Jesus. It feels really forced how much they’e trying to get you to empathize with these new characters when all you want is to see more of Joel and Ellie. It doesn’t help when you remember that these are the ones that brutally murdered your favorite character. Joel saved Abby's life and she still proceeded to torture him like that never happened. She's irredeemable and empathizing with her is a very hard pill to swallow.
    3. The ending is blasphemy. You're telling me Ellie comes all this way, and instead of finishing things, she lets Joel's murderer go? **** Heresy! I played through this entire game with the intention of avenging Joel. Joel would’ve burned down the world for Ellie had she been the one who died, and Ellie wouldn’t kill the person who caused her so much suffering? The ending is so dissatisfying and ultimately teaches you nothing. It renders the entire journey pointless.
If I had to rate the story alone, I'd give it a 3/10. I absolutely hated it.
It's not all bad though. Here's what I loved about the game (this is where most of the points come from):
The flashback scenes with Joel and Ellie are fantastic, and they really show what kind of potential this game had if they just continued focusing on these two. As triggered as I was with Joel's death, I was buying into the story and the "revenge quest," but man they broke my confinement when they started beating me to death with how prevalent Abby was. The graphics and gameplay are truly exceptional. This is without a doubt the best looking game on PS4 and the gameplay is much more refined from the first game. It's by no means revolutionary, it's enhanced but more of the same. That's perfectly fine though, because I loved the combat from the first game and wasn't expecting them to change it.
Ultimately, TLOU2 is just a huge disappointment. This game had so much potential if they just stuck to what this series is actually about - Joel and Ellie. It's most infuriating when you recall that the marketing was all manipulated to get you to believe Joel and Ellie would be the center of the story when that couldn't be farther from the truth. If I'm being honest, this felt more like Abby's game than Ellie's, which is ridiculous when you consider that this was being sold as Ellie's game. They even lied two years ago when they said that she would be the only playable character.
To conclude, I would highly advise against buying this game new. Do not support Sony financially, because that just means you're happy with what they did. I recommend either just watching the cinematics online or buying it used (which is what I did because I refuse to support this). There are things to enjoy, but it's not even close to be considered a good game. It's painfully mediocre which is unacceptable when you realize that this is a sequel to one of the most heralded games of all time. I can't believe we waited seven years for this.

The graphics are amazing and the scenery is just beautiful. The story was alright. Most of the new characters are boring and the old ones are not recognizable. The gaming experience is very nice but as a last of us sequel the story was a bit disappointing. Obviously, it is their story and they can decide whatever they want. But throughout the game I was constantly doubting the characters weird decisions and it didn't feel believable. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
