Expand

I'm not a very good writer so I'll keep this short and spoiler-free. I loved the first game, a solid 9/10 game in my opinion. The sequel takes the moody, depressing world and fleshes it out over a solid 25-30 hour story. It can be somewhat overwhelming if that kind of thing gets to you, especially in the midst of the current pandemic. This is not a story that tries to make you feel happyI'm not a very good writer so I'll keep this short and spoiler-free. I loved the first game, a solid 9/10 game in my opinion. The sequel takes the moody, depressing world and fleshes it out over a solid 25-30 hour story. It can be somewhat overwhelming if that kind of thing gets to you, especially in the midst of the current pandemic. This is not a story that tries to make you feel happy and it never pretends to either. Video games typically don't get an emotional response out of me, but this one was different. I had been so invested in characters that returned from the first game and a couple new ones as well, but by the time you really get going you may not even recognize them as the same characters you interacted with in part 1, not because of poor writing, but through character development that's both believable and engaging. This isn't a story with a single "message" or "theme," there are so many ways you can look at the story and take from it what you will just like the first game, a game that inspired so much theory-crafting and discussions about the morality and where the story could possibly go from there. I'd say this story did the same, but not in the way many were expecting. There is a section of the game about 2/3rds through that seems to drag on far too long, but other than that I was immersed and invested in the characters and the setting.

Gameplay is where I feel the game falls short of expectations. It really feels like more of the same with a few quality of life improvements. Part 1 came out in 2013, releasing a sequel seven years later with nearly the same combat makes it feel like an old game with a new coat of paint. It can be fun and it can get really intense but I really have to crank the difficulty up to keep it exciting.

Overall I thought it was a fantastic story that took risks and still managed to keep me emotionally invested and immersed. The gameplay was lacking any real big improvements, but the actors performances were all fantastic. I'd say it's definitely worth playing to anyone with a Playstation 4.

I'm really interested to see what's next for the series, be it a small side story like Left Behind or a bigger one like Uncharted Lost Legacy. Either way I'm on board and I will continue to be watching Naughty Dog to see what they achieve next.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This game exceeded my expectations...The story is better and more complex, the graphics, atmosphere are on par if not better than the first, and there is a lot more Joel than I was expecting. The only complaint I have is that because the animators made the characters so fluid - it somethings makes the controls a little cumbersome - but other than that - I think this is an amazing game.

I enjoyed a lot this game, i really think that the gameplay and graphic got a big improvement, the narrative isn't as good as it was in tlou, but it is still realy good, i don't think that it deserves less than a 6 but neither more than a 8, really good game, and i'll play many times. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Game play wise TLOU2 is a solid game. The combat is good just like the first entry and the survivalist atmosphere with low amounts of ammo and items is there in spades. I think it went too far in some points, pitting you against an insane amount of enemies all in one go. Some of these encounters proved to be a dragging slog honestly. The "zombies" were only an afterthought throughout. But in all it isn't as bad as some people are making it out to be. I give it a 7.7-8. Not perfect but definitely worth the play.

    *SPOILERS*

I don't care about the progressive storyline people seem to be review bombing for no reason. Was the story as good as 1? No. Was it good? Yes. The ending is complex. In my estimation the final section of the game showed how Ellie believed she owed Joel and had to avenge his death. But I believe Ellie realized that Joel wanted Ellie to be alive and HAPPY. That is why she let Abby live. She realized that killing her wouldn't have brought her the happiness she had with her girlfriend and child. The vengeance she had in the beginning of the story was fueled off of pure unadulterated rage but in the end she realized that just like in the first game Joel only ever cared about protecting Ellie and making sure she was happy. That is what rang true for me. I don't think it was the best ending but I think it was valid. Abby did a horrid thing but Ellie realized nothing would right that wrong and decided to move past it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was hard to play, and is obviously a controversial game. The first of which I though right to review. It constantly pushes you over and over. It even made it difficult to keep going at points; however this is what made it so compelling to me. I don't think i need to speak for the visuals as they were stunning, and if you liked the gameplay from the first game you will love this because it makes tons of subtle improvements that when going back to see how the other one played made me think "this is what combat evolution through games should be", subtle, but effective. Through my experience many of my expectations of the game were thrown around, and some of the story beats I didn't agree with entirely, but that's what makes this game stand out. It isn't just a linear journey like the first, this makes it less tight than the first and the main reason why it's an 8/10. My main issue was placement of flashbacks, and although they made some sense on location they didn't feel like they would have the same soft impact they had on me if some were located elsewhere. Also spoilers, but Abby's immediate bond with Yara and Lev definitely humanized her it also felt forced as when she heads back to where she left them she had only known them for like an hour or 2 when escaping the Seraphites. This is my main complaint with the game, but also the reason why I loved it as much as I did. I also saw a couple bugs here and there, none of them were game breaking, just annoying. The fact that I didn't agree with everything that happened and how flawed everyone was to the point where the video game had no true villain. What? A video game without a villain. Yes. Although much of what I'm saying may sound like I disliked the game that is not the case. I am highlighting issues I had with it because of how controversial it is and want my review to be as unbiased as possible because of my love for the first one. This game is also an interesting reflection on humanity and the lengths both sides go to prove their point. That is all, I secede all my time to the Waring factions of the comments. Expand

Hey bud, I heard you hate this game with a burning passion. I can tell you why. You're soft, and a little upset Ellie can't be your imaginary girlfriend anymore.

Anyways, the story was immaculately airtight and told brilliantly. Admittedly, I felt that the Abby portion of the game could have maybe used a little different pacing. It was great to see everything slowly piece together.

The gameplay has changed a lot with new zombie types, smarter AI, A prone and jump button, new weapons, and new stuff to craft. With all these changes the gameplay is significantly better than the first one and was A blast to play. The graphics are honestly probably the best graphics on the ps4 besides detroit become human. The story was pretty good but could have been better. Joels death was not done right and completely forgets all the rules of survival in the first one with trusting strangers and telling them everything about you. There was an unnecessary sex scene with abbys story. However the game does a good job at humanising abby and her friends. It makes no sense to say Abby is poorly written because Eliie and Abby have the exact same motives and Abby redeems herself by the end of the story. The lesson of the story is revenge only makes you lose stuff and does benefit anyone including yourself. I feel like at the end they should have given the player a choice between killing Abby or letting her go because both endings make sense. This game also has amazing voice acting. I hope it wins game of the year. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A beautiful and captivating sequel that i really enjoyed to play through. After all the bad news and user critics I was skeptical first, but the experiment Naughty Dog dared turned out really great. Since a main character is murdered brutally in the beginning of the game, the further plot revolves around hate and revenge. By not only playing Elli, but also her opponent, the player can feel both points of view. Most things are not that simple as they seem to be. The game clearly shows that revenge is not a solution and can make things even worse. The graphics turnde out very good, but not great. I expected a little bit more. The levels were created rather open than linear, as it was in the first part. This leads to more interesting levels on the one hand, but a constant fear of overlooking something. The mechanic of playing both opponents was a interesting innovation, but i would have preferred to play both characters alternating rather than consecutively. All in all: A very good game definitely worth playing. Expand

Story:Most people would disagree with this opinion but I really enjoyed the game, there were flaws with it, the story was a bit drawn out, I would have liked to play as Joel more and have less time with Abby, I think the emotions the game gives are things that not many other games have done, the sadness when Joel dies and the conflicting feelings when fighting Ellie with Abby and actually wanting to lose

Graphics: amazing graphic 10/10 best of the generation no doubt, I understand how people might not like the story but giving the game anything from a 0-4 is unfair just for this reason

Gameplay: also a 10/10 for the gameplay - builds from the last game but also stays true to its core, the dodge button and prone made the gameplay much better, saying that there’s no difference from the first game is just a lie, from the silencer to the new guns and Ellie’s knife and the new infected and boss fight Overall the small problems I had with the story didn’t ruin the game for me rather just stopped it from being a 9,10/10 but if u could I’d give the game somewhere between 7 and 8

And after all that, it is a really good game and I enjoyed every second of it. I can understand both point of views. However, I won't understand and talk to the people who are complaining about transsexual characters or that Abby is simply too ugly or similar s**** like this.
It's shocking and in some way frustrating if the polt twist contains a change of characters and nobody wanted to play Joel's killer. But Naughty Dog tried something new and they did it really good.

Playing it with a headset makes the expercience even more engaging. The sounds are top-notch, they will emerse you even more with the environment and sometimes even scare you in some horror parts.
Although the game seems perfect so far, it is not. The main factor in this game is the story. And even though I can understand and actually like some choices they took with the plot, most of it seems like they pushed it too far to have a story to tell in this game. The writting is good but it had so much more potential if they had gone with a saffer route. This gets evident when the most memorable parts of the game are a few flashbacks to the time when the first game ended.
Summing all this up, the game is far from being bad and I actually had a good time playing it, but if you compare it directly to the first game, it stands quite behind, since that one raised the bar really high.

This is not a perfect game. This is not for everyone. There are reasons I like it and other reasons others may not. And that's fine. Just tired of seeing everyone bash each other for simply having a different opinion.

For me though, I find this to be a better game overall than the first game. The story isn't as strong, but strong enough that coupled with gameplay that certainly improves upon its predecessor makes for a better game in my opinion. Speaking of story, there are elements in it that some don't like that I personally don't have a problem with. Some people don't like certain characters, like Abby, though by the end of the game I ended up liking her more than I did early on. There's a serious event that happens near the the beginning that she is connected with and while some don't like this decision, I think that is the only thing that drives the story from that point.

The big issue I do have with this game is its pacing, especially towards the middle. I thought the choice here was an interesting one, but it was also very jarring after the amount of time spent playing at that point.

Gameplay-wise, it's definitely an improvement. Combat and stealth feel smoother, crafting mid-encounter doesn't feel like much of a hassle, and simple touches like jumping and going prone add a few more possibilites to encounters.

It's also worth mentioning that on the technical side of things, to briefly mention, graphics are stunning, both for characters and the world. Character animations are very fluid and lifelike and facial animations are super realistic, especially in cutscenes.

Overall, while the story of this game holds it back from being anywhere near great, I still think it's a good story. Taking that with some improved gameplay and this is an experience that I find to be better than the first game, in my opinion. Not everyone will like it, but if you're curious about this game, give it a shot.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel as though this game has been bombarded by people who had the game spoiled for them and either watched a youtuber had a bad time or only focusing on digging up the negative elements.

My main problem is fans never coming to understand the ending of the original game and viewing the main character from as a unbreakable moral pillar and his death in the second game as pointless shock value. Which I wholeheartedly disagree with.

I cannot believe people cannot exit the narrative for even a second to see that the end of the first game is a classic trolley problem. You can argue both sides but we have to add the circumstances that Joel also murdered a host of people (including Marlene Ellies only mother figure) to turn the trolley track to hit humanity.

People even try to break down the fictional universe science using real world science to justify Joel's actions. "The fireflies couldn't have made a cure" is something I hear a lot often levied at the writers (even though there word is usually definite). I don't care about the logistics of a cure. The way I see it Joel would have fought his way through the hospital if it was a 10% chance to make a cure or a 90% maybe even 100%. In Joel's mind he's just saving a girl because he couldn't save his own.

Even though I think his death scene was handled fine, people have criticisms about how the circumstances of the characters death was handled. I believe that even in a world where he died in fans "perfect circumstances" people would still complain about Joel's death because for the plot to work he has to die horrifically and in the first act.

People are so angry at this fictional characters death that they are blindsided by rage and go straight into harassing the developers or writers without considering why this character died. It's also not like a real person died, after that point in the game he appears in several flashbacks with some of the best dialogue in the series.

The part I disliked about the game was Abby's half of the campaign. Not the content but more the structure. The character work is really tight but is let down by the fact that these characters (Abby, Owen, Mel, Manny, WLFs, Nora, etc...) only have 3 days to get as much development as characters that have had whole games to get personalities. The dialogue is all very good

Some of the theming and comparisons come across as a little heavy handed like the double pregnancies. The game feeds you a lot of information with Abby in such a short time like how she saved a Zebra and how she was in a love triangle, This has lead a lot of people into feeling manipulated by the plot because the game feeds you so many reasons to like abby in such a short time.

But after coming around to Abby just as a character and not her place in the plot I've come to love the idea that Abby doesn't always know the right thing to do but the people around her do, she's constantly redeemed by the people around her and talk her out of making bad decisions which is really interesting.

If Abby had been given more time or had somehow been intercut with Ellie. If it were up to me I would have made Abby's campaign optional after completing Ellies because honestly you don't need to know Abby's story before the theater while your invested in Ellie, Ellie only has to feel a little bit of pity by the end of the game for the ending to make sense which Abby's campaign doesn't need to be present for.

That's just my thoughts on some of the more controversial story elements. But I haven't talked about gameplay.

I think for single player action adventure tlou2 has no match, I won't go in depth but it is perfect and my grounded playthrough was a once in a lifetime experience

Puzzles are much more interesting than the first game, a quarter as many ladder puzzles and no water pallet puzzles was great.

The only chapter where the game started to drag was Jackson and Ellie day 1.

Music was great but unlike the first there are no tracks i'd listen to outside of setting ambiance.

Upgrade trees were much tighter than the first.

Best dynamic animation work in a game since red dead 2.

Collectibles were fun but I always think there are way to many and that letters shouldn't count.

Graphically amazing but wish the film grain would go away, also made my ps4 fan go off like crazy.

The faction and character dialogue writing always stays at the top rung.

I think I touched everything I wanted to talk about.

As it is often said „the first part was better“ I can say it applies to TLOU franchise too. But only to the story. The gameplay in part 2 was amazing but some story segments were a bit „unnecessary“ to me. All in all a good game which you still won‘t regret playing. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When i heard the news that the game is going to be suck... i was hesitate to finish the game or even start the game. Took me a month to finish the game. Here is what i thought about the game.

    Pros
    ------
    - The graphic and gameplay is great! gameplay is a little repetitive, but I'm still enjoying it
    - The world is more real than previous entry, they added more details and story in the game that makes me believable
    - Two characters gameplay, makes me understand each character's story more.
    - Because i get to understand Abby side of story, I started to care of her. I'm glad Ellie didn't kill Abby... But I can't forgive what she did to Joel. (It should have be Dina die instead of Joel)
    - Character Control has improved from the last game
    - Weapon and Ability upgrade are big improvement and i like it.

    Cons
    -------
    - Enemy AI are not as intelligent as what the first demo shown(so Naughty Dog, please don't lie to us again)
    - I find the action and gunplay are not as good as the first one but is acceptable
    - Character Dialogues is kinda weird to me, is not Last of Us style, too slow and too much pausing in between dialogues....
    - Sex Scene is unnecessary in Last of Us story... Seriously, not necessary, kinda ruined the story.
    - Too much Flashback and some scene transition can edit better.
    - Abby's Gameplay are more exciting than Ellie's Gameplay and Abby have more interesting infected enemy.
    - Story is not the best Last of Us story.
    - Too many Characters sudden death.....

In conclusion, you either love Last of Us Part II or hate it, so i can't give this game 10/10 but 8/10.

If you want to keep the good memory of this game, just treat the Part II doesn't exist. Because of Part 1 ending is perfect cliffhanger and it will always be a masterpiece.

If Naughty Dog decide to release Director's Edition that make the whole story interesting and didn't let Joel Die, I would love to play again.

Да, игра не подходит для фанатов The Last Of Us. Expand

I´m sure I´ll die of alcohol poisoning.

But it´s enjoyable. The point of where the story wants to go it´s not nearly as clear as the first game, but still is pretty good. And the gore is so graphic, hard to play and that´s a thumbs up. Accessibility options are magnific, never saw something like that. Soundtrack and graphics also great. Gameplay bores a little because there are no major changes in how to play, that didn´t happen in the first one because it was shorter and more well-paced. The main problem it´s that the game is way much longer than it should be. New characters are good and everything got the The Last Of Us vibe. I think it´s not as bad as people say but 94?! Come on! Is good, just like that. Plain good. Maybe it feels a little more-greater-than-life because Naughty Dog now knows the potential of this IP, but just enjoy it, or not, i don´t know, it totally works for me but I see people getting away and I fully understand it.

PS. It´s not as SJW as many people thinks, and if you´re gonna make that scares you away of a videogame you´re putting the phobia into the homo.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's been a few days since I finished this heart-wrenching, emotional assault of a game. I've noticed that the largest complaints of my fellow players focus on the story, which is, without doubt, one of the driving elements of the game. I would like to focus on that, so I'll get the other parts out of the way as quickly as possible.

The gameplay is a tremendous improvement over the original. More open-ended segments avoid the pitfalls of the traditional Naughty Dog 'hallway shooter,' the gunplay feels more responsive, the melee hits a great balance of easy to learn/hard to master, and the combat all-around feels as tense as it should in a survival game. The graphics are stunning, and post-infection Seattle feels like one of the most fully-realized post-apocalyptic worlds ever created. The in-game artifacts contribute to awesome worldbuilding a create a truly spooky atmosphere. The acting is impeccable. The sound design and editing are flawless. Someone still plays Hotline Miami on the PS Vita. The list goes on. These elements alone make the game worth playing.

    And then there's the story.

The best tl;dr I can give is that everyone will feel differently about it, and everyone should play it for themselves to determine where they fall. Love it or hate it, it's unquestionably provocative, and I applaud the writers for their willingness to take risks in such a widely-anticipated AAA game.

Many of these risks pay off. Some of them don't. I think, like Red Dead Redemption 2, this game's reputation will change with a year of retrospect.

There's a problem with, as a reviewer, calling anything a "poor story." This is a subjective qualification, but so is everything related to a review. I personally enjoyed the story, and I can see where people didn't enjoy it. I don't think, however, that calling a story "bad" because it evoked feelings of rage, anger, and sadness makes a story "bad" at all, especially if it intended to stir those emotions in the first place. Thus, in line with what I understand about criticism, the far more productive question is: "does this game succeed at what it's trying to do?" The Last of Us 2, for the most part, does succeed, but not quite as well as its predecessor.

The Last of Us, as a game, basically caught lightning in a bottle. It brought life and humanity to a dead and dehumanized world by exploring the father-daughter relationship between Ellie and Joel. From the game's opening moments, we empathize with Joel and his loss, which contributes to and grounds the remarkable ambiguity of the game's all-time-classic ending. By balancing love and hate, it had a perfect balance of ups and downs.

The Last of Us 2 is a relentless downer. The first game thematically focused on unconditional love and how that's both wonderful and sometimes downright horrifying. The second game is a revenge tale through and through. In the end, it tries to teach us that empathy is the most human characteristic we have. There are some truly powerful moments that capture what we're capable of when we forget that the people we hurt are human, just like us. It hurts to be confronted by it so brutally.

The biggest criticisms I've seen relate to "plot holes," "poor writing," and "poor characterization," all of which are terms that (no offense) people most often throw around to try to validate their feelings without doing consistent logical work. These also happen to be non-issues that, when overly explicated, completely undermine the artistic merit and intrinsic value of something being criticized. None of the characters in TLOU2 remain static. The dialogue is fluid and at times mind-blowingly good (I've tried to write dialogue--it's not easy!). And plot holes? I'll just encourage you to google "film crit hulk plot holes" and point out that they're not as huge a deal as you think. I digress. There are many moments throughout where the game succeeds incredibly at making the player feel what it wants the player to feel. If the general response is any indication, though, it just barely misses the mark. I don't think we spend enough time with Abby to care about her in the ways that the writers wanted us to. What makes this statement interesting, though, is the fact that Abby's segment is nearly as long as the entire first game.

The first game had an unforgettable cold open, and that's a big part of where the first game succeeded in its opening minutes with Joel. I think this game would have benefitted from placing us in control of Abby's first two flashback sequences from the start. Instead, we get placed in the shoes of a mystery character, and it doesn't do much for the tension during Ellie's segment. Abby also never reveals her core motivation to Ellie, which undermines what should have been her character's catharsis during the story's climax. Purposefully withheld information doesn't drive a story forward, and I'd say that's TLOU2's biggest flaw.

And yet I still loved it, and that's that.

The story lacks a bit unfortunately. The story had potential to be much better, had it undergone diffrent editing in form of what happens when, and in what order things happen in. After finishing this game it took me over a week to really process it and realize the ending is inherently device and you reaction to it is the result of your emotional maturity.

Abby seems like a boring, lazy character because you introduced to are forced to see the world through her eyes after seeing her commit this horrific act of violence. It is a natural reaction to be uninterested in her past.

But the reality is that Abby is a deep, authentic character with her own motivations and experiences and traumas and a failure to recognize this is the result of people being incapable of, or refusing to understand another person's world view.

The world of TLOU is one without heroes, and many people have incorrectly categorized the characters from the first game as such. Being able to separate reality vs. expectations is critical in understanding the nuances of this games story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First and foremost i have to say i think it is a very good game but there are some flaws which make me rate the game an 8. The idea of telling the story from two different perspectives is great but the player has to play as Abby for too long. When I saw we went back to play as Abby i was like okay...explain to me what happened i am curious. It is explained quite quickly so I thought after a couple of hours playing as Abby that we would play as Ellie again soon. I love Ellie’s character so much and just felt like i wanted to get through Abby’s part to get back to Ellie. In other words, i felt like playing as Abby took away from the time we would get to play as Ellie. Then I started to realize that we we’re going to see Ellie again much later and that we would have to play as Abby till the point their stories meet again in the theatre. At this point we played for 10+ hours as Abby and then we even had to attack Ellie?? That part i didn’t understand, i feel like we should have just had the cutscene without the combat or the perspective should have changed to Ellie. Hurting Ellie as Abby felt absolutely terrible.

I also felt like the game could have been improved by implementing more flashbacks and backstory before Joel gets killed. Now all the flashbacks were just painful to watch because we already knew what was going to happen, they were still good though but adding more in the beginning would have given us more of the dynamic we loved in the first game. I just loved the atmosphere and vibe of Jackson and I wish there were more scenes there. I would also have loved for Ellie and Dina’s relationship to be more detailed... how did they meet, when did Dina come to Jackson for example. Ellie also writes about her ex-girlfriend Cat, considering she is the first love interest Ellie had after Riley I figured we would see their relationship somewhere in the game but that was unfortunately not the case. Owen and Abby’s relationship seemed to be more in depth and we almost get to learn more about Owen than we learn about Dina.

In the end these are things that I think would have made the game a bit better and scenes which would have nicely balanced against the dark and depressing nature of the game. But i do think the game is good. The final part where we get to see Abby all worn out and sad is fantastically done. Ellie found the closure she was looking for, finally. In that moment Abby was not thinking about revenge anymore, she found closure and was just thinking about surviving and protecting Lev. At the very moment Ellie let’s go of Abby she has forgiven Joel and she can think about good moments with him instead of those horrible flashbacks. That scene with Ellie in the water broke me. Her telling Abby to go and take Lev and just sitting there crying with the beautiful music coming in. And Abby glancing back at Ellie as she sailed away with Lev... that was an emotional scene. It was a depressing ending though with Ellie and Dina basically being broken up... i would have loved to see Ellie reunite with Dina and J.J and then the camera would slowly move away until we have a Birdseye view of Jackson and bam end-credits. Maybe that is to sappy but it would have made the ending a bit more happy haha.

    ***OVERALL REVIEW 8/10***

    *******SPOILERS AHEAD********

The Last of Us Part 2 continues the story of Joel and Ellie. And I can say that it is a worthwhile sequel that not only continues the story that was started in the first game but expands upon it. The story of this game isn't perfect, it leaves me mostly satisfied with a slight sour taste in my mouth. The choice to brutally murder Joel works, but left me a little disappointed to see Naughty Dog remove such a crucial character especially after seeing the leaks. I would've liked to have seen a little less of a predictable revenge quest. But once you understand the reason for his death it all ties together with the first game near perfectly. I would've liked to have seen a little more mourning from the characters in this game rather than jumping right into the action. This choice can feel quite abrupt and can feel like they were rushing into the rest of the story. Although I was a little unmoved at this choice I found myself near tears at how emotional some scenes are. The death of Joel felt impactful and disturbing in a way that sticks with you and it is shown through Ellie in her relentless journey for revenge. This makes you look at yourself, and makes you think about how far you would go for the ones you love and how much you are willing to lose. Towards the start of the game you are quickly introduced to Abby who feels dangerous and mysterious as you question her intentions. Quickly some of those questions are answered as she brutally murders Joel in front of Ellie. But after this event you immediately are brought a slew of new questions about Abby that keep you attached to your controller trying to grasp at what the answers may be. This tension effectively runs through the first half of the game when you play as Ellie accompanied by Dina and later on Jesse. But this tension feels slightly ruined when you hit a climax and are forced to play as Abby which you were hunting down for most of the first half of the game. This choice made me a little annoyed hoping the next act would move back to Ellie but this doesn't happen till about the last hour of the game. I wish Naughty Dog would've used this time to have you play as Ellie and show you Abby's crucial moments. This feels especially painful when you are forced to play as Abby beating the sh*t out of Ellie and a pregnant Dina. Although this choice is a little frustrating it is effective in telling you Abby's side of the story and showing you that there really is no bad guy in this story, and that this isn't just a revenge quest for Ellie. By the end of this game when the credits rolled I found myself wondering and hoping for some sort of sequel or continuation of this story that gave me a little more closure even though this game ends on a good note leaving you with most questions answered and a large over arching lesson that is explored through this entire game. Many may find this game intensely violent to a point that you may need to look away. But every moment of violence feels justifiable and appropriate when looking at how harsh this world is and what most of these characters have been through, and what they must do in order to survive. This isn't a game for the faint of heart. Moving to the characters, I found most of them understandable and relatable especially those connected to Ellie and Abby. Naughty Dog does an impressive job exploring every character. For example, learning about Dina's relationship with religion, when interacting with completely optional story moments. These moments and things like notes spread throughout the world, and optional conversations help build a more believable and relatable world. Moving to combat, it is greatly improved in comparison to the first game that it builds upon. Ellie (and Abby) can go prone crawling through grass and hiding from enemies and stealthily taking them out. Melee combat is also greatly improved with a dodge button making combat feel more expansive yet intense. You also have a large arsenal of gear that gets larger as you progress through the story. Ellie and Abby can also move more efficiently through combat and the world moving more easily with a jump button and being able to squeeze through small spaces. Lastly I would like to bring up how impressive the visuals are in this game. Looking at each environment is a different experience, there is meticulous detail in every area. No space looks the same as another. Looking at every environment feels like you are one step away from being there in person.

In conclusion, The Last of Us Part 2 is a gripping experience that continues the story of Ellie and expands upon the world of The Last of Us in new ways and tells a memorable story that is definitely worth checking out for new and old fans.

Si el juego nos plateara primero jugar con Abby, sin conocer los sucesos de Jackson, y después usar a Ellie, la tensión y la historia sería mucho mejor. Es un claro caso de “el orden de los factores SI altera el producto final”. Expand

Outside of a few pacing issues, this game is *chef's kiss*. People trying to say the story is bad...just because you don't LIKE the story, doesn't make it objectively bad. It's meant to be miserable and devastating. That's literally the point. Stop being so irrationally angry over a video game that you would send death threats to people involved in the making of it.

It's quite hard to give a score to this game. The story the characters, the acting, the artistic aspects are really over the top. Probably one of the best story in computer game history and a direction over the top.

The problems are in the gameplay. It is fun for 4 5 hours than it is the same repetition for almost 30 hours. I'm pretty sure the game should be more or less half of what it is and it will work better. The story has a great rhythm broken by an endless set of fight with very few or no difference. I have no problem to pay 60 bucks for a game 15hrs long if it is funny. I have a lot of problem to play for others 15 hrs. something that is boring. Anyway the story is so great that pass over the gameplay problem but it is a shame that the developers had to put so many filler encounters to reach the 30 hrs gameplay to lure people that use $/hr as a meter of quality. The last cinematic alone worth the price.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I first played through the last of us 1, it was an incredible experience and I became SUPER involved with the story and characters. The tension between Ellie and Joel towards the end left me wanting so much more!

So when LOU 2 released I got it immediately and in several aspects the game did not disappoint. The gameplay, the new animations, the SHEER DEPTH OF DETAIL in the world is remarkable and honestly in terms of all that , the game is a PERFECT. I enjoyed playing it throughout. However, I cannot call this game a masterpiece, simply because of how the writers chose to take the story. When they killed Joel early in the game, I was shocked and more importantly, I was disappointed because I KNEW, no matter how they took this plot we would not be able to play with Joel and we would not be able to enjoy that tension and that dynamic with Ellie anymore. Flashbacks are NOT enough, and frankly, they could've timed Joel's death or written Joel's death much more differently, but just like that you got rid of him? Anyways, at that point I chose to accept it because well I thought to myself, it's Naughty dog right? They will probably have an insane plot coming for us now. When Ellie & Tommy wanted revenge , I was okay with the way things went on. And even more importantly, when they showed Abby's perspective from THAT DAY in the hospital, and the fact that the man Joel killed was her father, I WELCOMED that because now things would get interesting right??? Well, suddenly we're in Abby's world now! We get to learn about her life and her story during those days in Seattle for some odd reason. I WELCOMED THAT TOO, because well it was refreshing to play and learn the other side too, but honestly, the amount of game time given to her character was WAY TOO MUCH! Even though I was interested while playing with her, I don't care enough about her! Honestly what was that whole thing with Yara & Lev?! I'm sorry, in many ways it was beautiful, and in terms of gameplay I really enjoyed going through it but purely in terms of the MAIN CENTRAL PLOT, why is this getting so much time?! And I thought to myself , what is wrong with Abby? I loved when Mel confronted her about her hypocrisy, the way she killed Joel and the fact that she killed the highest # of scars but suddenly she cares about these two kids? I loved that, because when she tries to save those kids in that island , she ends up killing WLF soliders too?! What? For me that was just too much of a mess to understand. The entire plot around the two kids was just a mess in my opinion. But that isn't even my biggest frustration, after all that gameplay is done with Abby, she kills Jesse, cripples Tommy and you're playing as her against Ellie? And not gonna lie, in a way it's very cool to have Ellie as a boss but I sure as hell don't want to PLAY against her? My mind was in a constant conflict and honestly I was annoyed. After Abby let's Ellie and Dina go, I think to myself, SURELY Ellie gets back at her now? And that's exactly what happens and I'm finally on the path to get this revenge over with. However, after killing several SEVERAL people in her way , Ellie towards the end can't finish it when she has the ultimate opportunity? WHY? Why not?! Cause of her trauma? Cause she couldn't forgive Joel before he died? Well, ABBY is directly responsible for that whether he deserved to die or not! And Abby is also responsible for those images in her head, because well she repeatedly beat him to death with a golf club IN FRONT OF HER. In fact, Abby is responsible for A LOT MORE. But suddenly Ellie let's her go? I'm sorry but this was it for me plot wise. Ellie did not even know that the man Joel killed was Abby's father!

I just cannot like how this turned out, and I believe that's all because of how the writers chose to go with this. The flashbacks with Joel felt GREAT , because I was constantly craving for that dynamic between them. Why couldn't they write Joel's death differently? Why does it have to be so early? Why is there so much filler nonsense in the middle of the game instead? For me , the way they wrote the story takes away this games HIGH potential to be game of the year. In terms of production, everything was on point and this has been one of the best games I've ever played in terms of visuals and gameplay, but the plot is poorly and lazily written and that makes me cut a solid 2 points from the score to give this game an 8/10.

You're all welcome to give me your different perspectives, I've gone through many posts in this subreddit already as well.

The Abby arc seems that is never ending and that's where my biggest problem with this game is. I didn't sympathize with Abby until the end of the game, but I did understand the reasons for her actions. In this world there are no heroes, everyone is just a survivor, no good or bad, so in my opinion Joel's death was justified. It's a good game, just cut the Abby part in half and add some Joel - Ellie gameplay and cutscenes and it's going to improve a lot.

It's not perfect but is not the piece of trash that everyone is saying.

While, I will admit there are some definite flaws within the narrative, for the most part I found this story to feel insanely daring. While it doesn't surpass the original, I admire the risks it took and I felt most of them paid off. You could honestly argue that any of the main protagonists is right or wrong in how they think and you wouldn't be exactly wrong. This isn't a "good vs evil" type of story, but rather a bold narrative with characters that feel so human. There are some pacing issues for sure, but I find this game to be very entertaining. Music/SFX (10/10)
The music and sound effects are really good too, you feel the power of the guns when you shoot them. The moments when Ellie plays the guitar are pretty nice.

    Characters (10/10)
I think all of the main characters are pretty well written, I find them very charismatic, all of them have an interesting plot and good development, they grow throughout the game.

    Story (8/10)
For me the story is one of the weakest points of the game, while it is decent and pretty interesting it has more awful moments than good ones. There's a section at the end that feels tedious and too stretched out, if it wasn't there it wouldn't hurt the game.

    Enemies (7/10)
I think the enemies are too similar to each other: all the humans are pretty much the same (except when you find the big ones) and the same can be said for the infected, there are various kinds but it gets boring, and there's only one really unique mob in the game.

    Gameplay (6/10)
While the gameplay received some improvements, it mostly remained the exact same as in the first part and becomes monotonous, boring and predictable at half of the game. Moreover, puzzles were practically nonexistant.

    Average Score (8.5)

Conclusion: The game is pretty good and beautiful, I had fun playing it. The story felt stretched out a little bit, but I liked the ending.

So i think this game is getting much hate for no reason other than childish petulance of the people who feel the game should have been how they wanted it and not the way the story went.

Now to the game, the game itself is is very good, the story is fluent and pulls on the heart strings a few times, it gives you the sense of how both Abby and Ellie feel during a revenge battle and after thoughts and I feel it moves well enough into the new story, although a few more missions at the start about Joel and Ellie after we left them would have been better. The game graphics are very good and the visualisation of the game is great as it gives the sense of apocalyptic scenery. The game play itself was immersive depending on how you choose to play, whether stealth or shooting, but harder levels will deffinately require you too play more stealth, in some respects it could have changed up the style of play sometimes but overall was good enough to give goosebumps when surrounded by enemies in dark places.

The game wasn't perfect and it could have done a few things better but over all the game play was smooth, scenery great and story was perfectly fine for me and what I expected of the game regardless of the spoilers. It certainly doesn't deserve such a low user score and too many peopl are influecned by others. 8 out of 10 i think is the best score for this game and it doesn't deserve the hate it hs gotten.
