The game has great realistic graphics and a pretty good story. one thing that is sad that a certain character dies (no spoiler). I do feel like they did stretch the story a little too much and it could be shortened a little. Naughty Dog and all developers! you guys did a pretty good job.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay is smooth and very fun, the graphics are amazing but the story is just okay. They should've given Joel a better ending and they threw weed moments in just to seem cool to people who are probably too young to play it anyways. TLOU2 toys with complex ideas whether that be moral/political/social issues, which I believe they executed to perfection - truly leaving the gamer to be completely conflicted with their own emotions, values and morals. The game is not perfect by any means as there are aspects of the story that I feel weren't necessary. However, despite this, I feel all the positive elements of the game negate those issues that I have.

    This game is Hard.
It's not a real sequel, and that is what hurts.

The combat gameplay is so tense compare with the first one. Really enjoy it.

    The cons are:
-Huge lore, but we know so little about it.
-There's a rough 10hours where the story doesn't really move (kind of a slow start)
-Some characters had such a big potential but were kind of wasted/put away for the sake of moving on with the story. ( Wish we could have a better part for them).

I hate the story it self how it goes and the lack of focus on our beloved characters and how they broke Ellie and even abby at the end,

But putting those aside ,overall package its really good game

I enjoyed the setting, the characters, and the story. It only really started to lose me in the last couple of hours because the battle arenas and story felt a little unpolished and rushed. But the first half of the game? To be honest, I was kind of enjoying it more than the first one, and I know that's controversial to say. I don't feel like I played the same game that everyone else seems to be complaining about. It has some of the most natural LGBT representation I've seen in a video game, which is refreshing. Some people think that the theme of revenge is a little too intense, and I can understand that. It's a very emotionally draining game, and if not in the right mindset, you might not be prepared to play it and have FUN with it. But I did. The first 20-24 hours of the game were meant for me. I enjoyed almost everything it had to offer and I'm currently working on my second playthrough. Whilst TLOU2 is a masterpiece with regards to its gorgeous graphics, incredible attention to detail, beautifully composed music, brutal combat, and the undeniably tragic relationship between Joel and Ellie, it often suffers under the weight of its 2013 predecessor. Its major flaw, and the reason I've not awarded it a 10, is the pacing, and how major events within the story are placed within the narrative. The game often feels bloated, and the urgency sometimes fluctuates as its characters root through draws and lockers for equipment, and without many real environmental puzzles, the game often goes through the motions until the next cutscene.

There are no heroes in TLOU2's bleak and relentlessly grim world, and the game frequently reminds you of this as you hack, dismember, and shoot your way through a stunning post-apocalyptic Seattle over the course of three days. Thankfully, there are reprieves: TLOU2 is scattered with beautiful flashbacks, which take you away from the endless violence and threat, and these moments are when Naughty Dog are able to bring life to its survivors. These flashbacks often tug on the heartstrings without any hint of over-sentimentality too. Aside from its main characters, whilst TLOU had compelling side-characters, aside from Dina, TLOU2 does not. This is not to say they are strictly unlikeable (bar Manny, a by-the-numbers womanizing Latino male stereotype), but are not particularly memorable either. The game lacks a much needed nuance in some of its characterisations, but, to be fair to Naughty Dog, the game's treatment of Joel and Ellie's tumultuous, yet touching relationship remains the soul of the game, even if these moments are relatively fleeting.

If, as a player, you are emotionally invested in its themes of desperation, vengeance, guilt, and forgiveness, and most importantly, willing to play it with an open mind, the last few hours remain as gripping as any game released. Even gamers with no emotional investment in its story and characters should really find the game's visceral combat, its immersive world and breath-taking surroundings enough. It's undeniably a polarising game, but one thats story should be experienced for what it is, and not what it isn't.

Just a heads up. I didn't really watched any leaks except the one concerning joel. So it was mostly a blind playthrough.

Story.: I enjoyed the story for the most part. I didn't like the first bits of the Abby storyline as the game really tried to push the "look how nice Abby is" narrative (I mean it's fine but it should be done with more finesse, it just felt really dumb to me). I

I didn't like the first bits of the Abby storyline as the game really tried to push the "look how nice Abby is" narrative (I mean it's fine but it should be done with more finesse, it just felt really dumb to me). I didn't like some of the secondary characters either. The longer I played however the more I liked the Abby story. I absolutely loved the showdown with Ellie during the last parts of the game. As a whole I felt really engaged through the whole Ellie campaign and I would say 2/3 parts of the Abby story.

Graphics / Sound / Atmosphere.: Simply put, the graphics are one of the best the ps4 can offer, probably the best. The Sound is also great. You can choose between many different options (theater, surround, stereo, headphones). You can even choose the virtual place / angle of your speakers. In general the game has a lot to offer in terms of configurability. There are even several options for handycapped users. The game has a really bleak / dark atmosphere, combined with great sound and graphics that I enjoyed quite a lot.

Gameplay.: I can't say that often enough but you should really play the game on the highest or at least on hard difficulty, no matter what. This makes the game truly special. You will need to scout trough the levels as much as possible due to resources being scarce. Due to this and the smart enemy AI every enemy encounter will be nerve wracking. You will also have more reason to sneak around and use bomb traps for example. Depending on the difficulty I would give the game a higher or lower score, it really has a big impact on the gameplay. Just one more negative point, the companion AI is absolute garbage. Literally got me killed several times (blocked my way, didn't help at all).

Conclusion.: I enjoyed ellies / abbys revenge trip as a whole. The story was dark, brutal and captivating. Some parts could have been executed with more nuance (joel/abby scene, several scenes within first few hours of the abby story) but overall and in addition to the fun gameplay and tight atmosphere it was a great journey.

    Story.: 7
    Graphics / Sound / Atmosphere.: 10
    Gameplay.: 8

The gameplay, like the first game, is entertaining and the player can do basically whatever he wants. Do you want to shoot everybody? Do it. Do you want to stab them from the back and be quiet? Do it. Do you just want to escape from a group of enemies because you ran out of ammo? Do it. You can do what you want, the choice is yours.

    Story: 8/10
This is very personal. Right after the end of the game I sat in my room and I stared at my monitor for nearly an hour because the game left me empty. The story is completely different form the first game; there's no real enemy here (we're just used to see the story from Joel and Ellie's eyes), just a bunch of people trying to get their own justice. The ending is like a punch in the face, it's so wrong and right at the same time. My final score is 8-8,5/10, a very good game unfairly criticized but also not a masterpiece.

Story wise, it was a bit too focused on the romance side of things - it's not really something that you want from a survival horror game. but I didn't really feel like it was being jammed down my throat.

I thought it was interesting though the way that you can see both sides perspective of things, that as ellie it seems as a justified act in her eyes - the only way she could live with it after certain events happened - and then seeing from abby's point of view. It touches on how people deal with traumatic events, and how a need for revenge can twist you in to something you never thought you could be. Personally I could sympathise with both sides, which I think is a sign of well written characters, like how nobody could tell who was the main character for several seasons of game of thrones. I think that the writing is not as bad as it's made out to be at all.

I don't see what all the fuss is about with abby being built like a bloke, if they made a big deal out of it during the game it would bother me, but it's literally only ever mentioned at the end of the game and that is just to describe her to someone. it's completely irrelevant practically to the storyline, other than the fact she is physically strong and it affects how you use her ingame.

Joel is old, I mean. was it really that surprising?

Gameplay wise, I think they have made a lot of very good changes compared to the first. they've given you a lot more stealth variety and tactics you can use which which personally I love. Like for instance you can dive in to tall grass, and the AI of the mobs has improved a lot in that you have more chances to escape if you mess up. Ability to craft arrows and silencers is fantastic The pipe bomb mechanics are great, in that you can bounce the bombs from the walls, giving you a very satisfying way to kill that annoying guy hiding behind a corner.

Exploding arrows! I don't think I really need to say much more there.

The melee combat is also much improved, with the game actually giving you ways to evade attacks and be more tactical about how you can kill mobs. this is particularly great if you're low on ammo and there is only 1 or 2 infected. I think you could potentially go through most of the game barely ever using guns apart from bosses. I think it's very cool how they give you that option.

The crafting and steroid/power up mechanics in the game feels much more interesting, the options didn't feel as much of a clean cut choice as in the first, and you had more options to cater the weapon to your style of play during the initial playthough, which I think is cool. For instance focusing on weapon stability if you suck at aiming like me, or just raw damage - or scopes if you see yourself as more of a sniper.

the new infected mobs are great, I think the added variety of the mutations has really added a lot to the combat and made you adjust how you approach different situations and how you save, for example, a loaded shotgun in case a pack of stalkers pop out of nowhere, or a couple of molotov's in case you get some of the big nasties. the rat king battle in particular was great, oodles of fun with a flamethrower..

overall I highly recommend this game if you liked the first, but I'd recommend going in to it with an open mind and make up your own opinions about it. It's worth the chance in my opinion.

This game has made me feel things that no game has ever made me feel before. The story dragged me in and its emotional impact still lingers after having finished it over a week ago, what a ride.

It is however not a perfect game. In my opinion the game is a bit too long. Not because of the story, but because of the gameplay. The gameplay hasn't changed too much from the first game and while the fighting sequences (which gameplay-wise have received the biggest upgrade compared to the first game) are an absolute blast, the mechanics of finding supplies, upgrading your weapons and your character are dated and get old quite quickly, I was done with these things about halfway through the game. You will find yourself going through each room, opening each drawer, each locker to find supplies or pills. These are currencies which you spend in order to upgrade your load-out or skills or craft weapons. The skill tree doesn't make much sense and the weapon upgrades are unexciting too. Half of the time I didn't know what to upgrade and wasn't really excited to upgrade a weapon. I wish they had innovated more in these aspects of the game as that would have lifted the experience to a higher level again.

My main point of criticism out of the way, the graphics, animation and visuals are absolutely amazing and all combined are probably the best I have ever seen in a game. The sound is equally great, the music excellent. The acting and the way characters are made alive blew my mind over and over. I just cannot get over how great all these aspects of the game are.

In conclusion: While all other aspects of the game are pretty much a 10/10, for me it is somewhat lacking in gameplay which unfortunately lowers my score for the game a bit. All in all this game is a masterfully crafted piece of art and one that will be in my mind for a long time to come. I'm incredibly thankful for everyone involved to have made this game, for me it has been an unforgettable experience.

I’ll start of by saying TLoU is one of my top five games of all time. 10/10. I felt the sequel was harder to get in to. Gameplay is refined but since the game is a lot longer than its first outing those refinements don’t go far enough anyway. I found myself loving the exploration and actually getting annoyed when combat “got in the way”. I think the story is pretty interesting as a theme but the character kind of fail to grab my attention. I really like being conflicted and finding myself loathing the presumed protagonist but at the same time a lot of the choices that the protagonist does doesn’t really feel in character/plausible. When taking a step back and looking at this from a broader perspective, comparing it to all games and not just it’s prequel, it’s still a great game. Graphics, audio, animation and voice acting is god tier. The narrative and character development, though weaker than the first game, is also high class. As far as controversies regarding the game go I’d say: just play the game. The game does not do what it’s accused of. It does not push any agenda down your throat. It doesn’t fail in its story telling due to taking a political stance. Sure it’s not as good as the first game but it’s not due to anything related to the “controversy”. I think the game would have felt like a better experience if they skipped some acts/story beats and focused more on the driving factors of the main protagonist. It was also too long: the naughty dog gameplay loop is not fun and/or varied enough to last for 25 hours. Expand

Too long play, a few things does not add value in the game (gay relationships & fighting at lev's town), waste of time in this context. Graphics, audio, effects and mechanical gaming is great!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Great game! It delivers a slightly better gameplay than the first one, with more types of enemies (both humans and infected) and more fighting skills. The bigger maps and the longer duration of the game are also awesome factors.
The story is, however, too depressing and unsatisfying, totally disregarding the player's feelings that were built in the first game. Its was not Naughty dog's

The story is, however, too depressing and unsatisfying, totally disregarding the player's feelings that were built in the first game. Its was not Naughty dog's intention to please us with the story, and this is ok I guess. I recommend this game and although the gameplay is, in my opinion, better, the storyline doesn't live up to the first one.

People who don´t comprehend the choice Ellie makes towards the end probably didn't even play the last 3 hours of game-play, or didn't take them seriously. People must learn the difference between not liking a story because it differs from your expectations, and not liking it because its badly written.
On a personal level, I believe this game was quite a good sequel. Improved game-play and graphics over the first game, amazing music, and a story interesting enough for anyone to keep on playing until the end.

TLDR AT THE BOTTOM OF REVIEW

The linear environments which set the scene of the first game are hugely expanded upon in this game; weather it's exploring a quite suburb of seattle or being forced into a claustrophobic, dark and frightening underground system, there's no injustices served in terms of the environments crated and their atmospheres. Beautiful juxtapositions are seen in every single environment always reminding you that no matter how dark this world is there's always what seems to be room for hope to come from the most unexpected places. Schools, hospitals and apartments where nature has taken over are opposed by the small glimpses of hope from humans trying to get back to a somewhat new normal way of life surviving; notes, dwellings, camps, and societies show that there will always be something to fight for even if to some it could be moral wrong, as the world is not black and white but a grity, dirty shade of gray. It's just as much fun surviving in this game as it was the last. Crafting bombs, laying traps and thinking about your next move is just as much fun as it is tense and frightening. There's always room for error and it's brutal when it goes wrong, as you'll have to do everything to get back on the proper foot. This is where the gameplay shines the most for me as the new features such as hiding in grass, new bad guys and factions will keep you on your toes.

Although some of the characters can fall short in this story of being amazing, they're still none the less solid. Fortunately none of them feel as if they were placed in the game to push an agenda or political view as you might have heard people complaining about. Weather you love or hate the characters there's no denying that they have real emotion and depth behind them and their relationships feel organic and true to themselves.

Lastly for the positives, the accessibility in this game is what every single developer should stride towards. Weather you hate or love the game, there are so many ways to customise how you play your game. It's never been easier for someone which unfortunately may have never been able to pick up a game and play without difficulties, to actually just play a game and enjoy it with what I hope is little difficulty.

Sadly the story is very hit or miss, however it should be stated that this game was never meant to satisfy everyone as its meant to decisive and it's certainly done this. For every high point in the story comes a low point and it can sometimes fail to hit the mark by a lot. Although the characters themselves are amazingly thought out and acted, there are some motives which I agree with the majority of players don't make sense. It's not to say the story is bad, but it's extremely convoluted.

Much like the story the pacing is extremely slow and detrimental to the point where I had to take a break for a few days just to be in the mood to go back to it. The fact that it darts around time wise and tells the story step by step is draining. They almost treat the player like a child sadly which is almost insulting, as there are plenty of times in the story where can assume what happened through dialogue etc... But instead they insisted we play it. I agree that this was probably a good call as by the end of the game you can really put yourself into the main characters shoes as they themselves are drained, but there is a LOT of unnecessary filler. Together they unfortunately bring down what could have been an immersive and fun story. It's not to say the story is bad, it's the structure of the story. It's fun piecing things together but for a game which relies heavily on human emotions and the cost of life it seems to just skip over these themes like it's nothing and go straight to revenge, which is the main theme of the story but without the foundation for revenge or a motivation and understanding, it can fall flat. TLDR SECTION:

    Pros:
    Gameplay
    Graphics Environment Sound design Characters
    ACCESSIBILITY

    Cons:
    Convoluted story
    Slow pacing

The last of us part 2 is an almost polished masterpiece in most ways, however it falls flat at some memorable points as well as by some of the themes it conveys. As I said before it is a quintessential must play for a fan of the first game as it builds on the world extremely well overall, however you HAVE to go into this game with an open mind, accepting it might not be what you want but it's going to be one hell of a journey. Lastly if you unfortunately find it hard to play games due any kind of disability I'd recommend picking this game up eventually, it's a solid experience and has a huge array of accessibility features for a range of people.

Graphics and gameplay are incredible, as is always the case with ND. I highly recommend playing on survivor difficulty - it added about 20 hours to the average game time for me. It's not frustratingly difficult which is good - instead it makes every encounter feel like a puzzle, and the world becomes even more brutal and immersive, where you really appreciate every resource that you come across.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After just finishing this game recently, I have to say this game is much better than most of these negative reviews are giving it credit for. People slamming this game for the story or certain characters, either didn't pay attention enough or have some type of bias against the characters in general.

So in my review I plan to go over the good, the bad, and the ugly.

    The good.

The story. I'm not sure what people are griping about, but this story was just as engaging as Joel and Ellie's, if not more so. It's a typical revenge story, but the reasons why, which you don't find out about until literally the very end, makes it so much more compelling. In the story there are multiple flash backs that keep building and building as to why Ellie's quest is that important to her. In the final scene really drives the home why Ellie went through all of this in the first place. The fact that she's finally ready to move on and forgive Joel, only for him to die, really show cases how important this all was and why she couldn't let it go. Abby's revenge is literally in the same boat. Her father, the man that was supposed to create the cure, is the doctor we offed in the first game. Her reason for killing Joel is just as enticing is just as important. Both end up essentially get redemption qualities in the end. Abby is forced to view her choices on killing the SCARS and her eventually acceptance that they are people too once she is saved by Lev and Vera. Ellie finally catches up to Abby later in California and after a fight scene between them both, eventually lets her go.

Graphics. This game looks beautiful, feels beautiful, and just 100% is beautiful. There wasn't a time in this game where I thought, man this place looks like garbage. It truly is a well crafted game.

Sound/voice acting. Again another area where everything from shot guns blasting heads off, to screams of impending death, to hearing a classic 80's song on a guitar, it all sounds absolutely beautiful. The voice actors are incredible and goes to show why Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker are pretty much top of the line VA's in the business. From singing to their dialogue, they really draw you into the characters. Even with Joel's limited time in the game, Troy still delivers.

Overall game play. If it isn't broke don't fix it. This game plays exactly like the previous with a few new additions. You get a much more expansive pill system, a few new weapons, and you can jump now. You also get the benefit of two story lines to play through. Stealth remains pretty much the same and loud mode as well. The idea of being openish world is pretty nice as well. Nothing forces you to go into each building, though it's always worth it to do so.

    The Bad.

Story sequence. Remember how I said the story is good? Well the story layout is horrible. You essentially play 3 days in Seattle, however, you go through all of Ellie's first, and then Abby's. Unless you plan to blitz through this game in 2 days, it is sometimes hard to lose focus on what was happening with Ellie once you start playing Abby. I would have rather seen each day played out from both perspectives in the same day.

Character development. With the exception of a few characters, most characters don't end up hashing out or seem like an after-thought. I was expecting to meet the cult leader, only to find out she's been dead for some time now. I had expected Issac to have more of a bigger presence, but that was off the mark as well. The team that helps Abby kill Joel, just seem out of place in general. Mel's lack of appearance, along with Nora makes total sense, but I had it in my head that we would have seen Owen/Abby team up once.

    The Ugly.

The fan base. Sorry to all those that loved the first one and hated the second, but I'm not sure what everyone was expecting. As far as the main points for the negative reviews, literally none of them make any sense. Joel's story was over, this is Ellie's. People hating on inserting gender or how jacked Abby was, again doesn't make any sense. If anything Abby's build makes a ton of sense, as when you walk out of her room for the first time, what's there? A giant bloody gym with workout equipment. Like what do people expect? You would expect your best operatives to be in the best shape.

The sex scene. So i get it's there to show the tension between Owen and Abby, but it was pretty awkward to just say, here you go viewers, enjoy. It's not to say it doesn't happen in literally every post apocalypse story, but they really shove it into your face.

Human/infected interaction. Let's be real here, the fact the humans and infected barely seem to cross paths is kind of iffy. I get that each faction has probably cleared most of the areas that they would take, but we only got what? 4 or 5 instances where the infected could be used on the people hunting you. It wasn't enough and what I got, i wanted more.

No game is perfect, and TLOU2 certainly falls into that category. Yes Joel dies in a brutal and unceremonious way, but that's what happens when you literally damn the ENTIRE WORLD. Don't get me wrong i'm not happy about his death either as I grew to love his charter in the first game, but I understand it lore wise.

Ellie is rightfully angry and vengeful when she watches her (basically) dad die in front of her and sets off in a quest of vengeance, which was basically a waist of time since she kills everyone else except Abby, the one who took Joel's life. Not to mention the fact that you play Abby for half the game to better understand her and the driving force on why she did it, AFTER the story basically reaches its climax.

There are bits of story in the middle, lets call it the B story, that i really didn't care about simply because it was boring and unnecessary. Did we really need Multiple sitcom dramas in the middle of a city infected with fungus zombies trying to eat my face? It does nothing for the lore of the world or the main story, it doesn't even further character growth since Ellie basically throws everything away to continue her quest knowing shes going to lose everything.

Surprisingly Abby does grow as a character, however it is a bit sudden and...Jarring? I'm not sure how to put it exactly but after she killed Joel she kind of regretted it but not entirely. Throughout her story you see she has moments of regret about what she did and decides she has to make up for it by saving two kids who saved her life and are on the run from their cultist tribe because of one of them identify's as a boy when they were born a girl. Again, B story I could honestly care less about since it doesn't add anything besides giving a nod to the LGBT community which is now obligatory in most video games now.

Seriously, Abby goes on huge undertaking by going to ground zero of the outbreak in the city to find medial supplies that may or may not exist to save one of the kids (who she met the previous night) that dies anyways 24 hours later. Another HUGE waste of time, granted it would of been fine if they would of done the surgery and just left but nope. The B plot takes over and the sibling who identifies as a boy goes back to the island to retrieve their mother even though they know she wont accept him and will most likely die. So in perfect video game logic fashion Abby and the girl who just had her arm cut off go after him instead of saying "Nope not worth facing an entire island of cultist just to save a boy." During there escape from said island the sister dies, because nothing happy can happen in this game. Abby also returns to find her friends dead (by Ellie) and goes on her own Revenge quest, which is remarkably faster.

Now were back to the the climax scene where we were 10 hours ago and finally get to see it play out. Big fight between Abby and Ellie plays out, basically a game of Tag. Long story short Abby won and was in a position to kill Ellie and Dina but didn't. It was a "be the bigger person moment" and left them bleeding out on the floor. The end right? You wish.

Ellie and Dina are now living in a farmhouse with a baby living the american dream. Except for the fact that Ellie still has PTSD from the whole Joel thing since she failed her quest and didn't get closure. So she heads back out to track Abby down again only to find that she was taken by a group of slavers and put on a pole on the beach to die of starvation, get burned to death by the sun, or to a group of hungry birds, take your pick. But Ellie cuts her down and demands they settle things once and for all, Abby refuses, Ellie threatens to kill the little boy that was strung up with her, Abby then agrees. They fight Ellie is now in the position to kill her but doesn't and lets her go because of a Joel flashback. Ellie goes back to her farmhouse and finds that Dina and the baby along with all there stuff is gone, and all Ellie has to show for it is two missing fingers on her left hand, The end.

So basically the story is messy, for multiple reasons but here's the thing, I kind of like it. It shows the ugly side of humans and how dangerous people are when you take everything from them and give them nothing to lose. Some people will swear up and down human arnt like that, but we are, put between a rock and a hard place we will do anything to survive, Darwinism at its finest. The B plots leave a lot to be desired but the main story has its moments.

Gameplay wise it goes above and beyond, the mechanics are solid, shooting feels great, and there is always tension in the air you can cut with a knife. Stealth is the way to go but all out firefights are viable too if you have the ammo.

Graphics are stunning, the amount of TLC that was put in the visuals is hands down the best thing about this game from the reflections, light shafts, particle effects, rain/snow, basically anything you see is a visual masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. [Eng] As a TLOU and Left Behind fan, I expected this game for more than 2 years, I love the way they improve the AI of enemies (humans and zombies) and how your character (Ellie) is way more different than Joel in the way she fights and moves.
The world is more "open" so you can go trhough it in your own way and it has some puzzles like in the "Uncharted" series BUT they make you (force you, actually) play for more than 10 hours with a character you don't give a **** about (Abby) and bro... that's not cool at all, I mean, I could stand her backstory so I can understand why she killed Joel but her "side quests" sould've stayed like that, optionals, I did not wanted to help her new friends, not even try to kill Ellie, I mean, dude... I LOVE ELLIE.

But the guy who wrote the story didn't think about little things, like why Joel trusted wolves in the first hours of the game when he was very suspicious in the first game, there were holes in the script that didn't explain well why he trusted, because they wanted Joel's death to happen at all costs, but in itself the story is good, because in the first half of the game, you are presented with parts where you want to kill all the wolves at any cost and in the Second half, they really make you wonder if you want to keep killing the people that are left, because everyone is not bad in this game, it is simply about a world of survival, as Ellie has killed people in cold blood to survive as well as Abby, but the graphics, the gameplay, the soundtrack of the game, are some things that stand out from the whole game Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I know why people are upset with this game. The beginning of the game seemed alright until Joel’s death. That’s when I wanted to stop playing. It was a bad way for him to die and his character was written wrong there’s no disagreeing on that. But after that Ellie’s story gets really good and she has become one of my favourite game characters. She was written well. Abby’s story went downhill a little as it wasn’t bad but just wasn’t as Interesting as Ellie’s and I think one of the reasons for this is because we hate Abby. The game tries to make you like and tries to show she is changing as a person but i still **** hated her. Another bad part I thought was when you have to fight Ellie as Abby just so Abby can win. To be honest I think tlou2 is a really good game and all comes down to Joel’s song where he says “if I ever were to lose you, I’d lose myself”. That’s exactly what happened to Ellie in my opinion which is why she probably let Abby go as she knew Joel was right with what he said and didn’t think she’d be any better than Abby getting revenge but she realised it was too late when she got back home as Dina left. Ellie also said her fear was ending up alone which is exactly what happened. The games just a dark story about how revenge isn’t always right even if you hate Abby. It took risks and I respect. Good game but not as good as the first game. Expand

Great game in general, I think the unpleasant aspect of it was playing as the main "villain" character but you get used to it and even empathize with both sides ot the story. It doesn't deserve all the hate it's getting, c'mon guys. 8/10 all in all, great music by Gustavo Santaolalla, improved game-play and awesome graphics for a console game.

I keep seeing people say Abby got a good ending she didn’t she lost everything and only has Lev left which is exactly what Joel had. Joel was miserable then he found Ellie and now it’s happening with Abby and Lev. The graphics are wonderful and the story is good but has some downs. Honestly I felt bad for Abby and I never thought I would have empathy for her. I cared for Ellie tooo overall the game made me question everything I was trying to figure out if I wanted Abby dead or Alive I liked her but I loved Joel but deep down I knew Joel wasn’t a good person. People keep saying Abby is evil but it’s not true she doesn’t kill innocent people and at the beginning of the game she tells her group not to kill Ellie because she’s innocent and didn’t kill her dad. Abby is a good person because she saves Lev and his sister. Ellie and Abby our the same both lose their father and got lost in revenge. Honestly I think Ellie doesn’t know who she really is- I feel like she wants to forgive Joel and she does when she doesn’t kill Abby. But through out the game Ellie is ruthless and angry which she should her dad died but at the same time she’s lost she’s not the Ellie from the first game she’s older and darker. This game gives me mixed feelings it’s morally grey which is realistic no one is perfect. But I liked the story because it was realistic every action has a consequence. Abby killing Joel made Ellie kill all her friends. And Joel killing Abbys dad made her come for him. This game shouldn’t be a 0/10 the gameplay is fun and the graphics are amazing. Another thing is the game wasn’t ruined by sjw you were just mad Joel died. Yes there is a gay character and guess what there was a gay character in the first game. Lev being trans is an interesting plot and helps you build a bond with him honestly Lev is one of the most bad ass characters. Ok I’m done I respect your opinion if you dislike the game. Expand

For me the biggest issues we're the confusing level design and sometimes the really quick turnarounds with time placement. The writing is stellar with an amazing cast (if you don't like the characters that's fine but they aren't unlikable) Amazing returning gameplay and graphics that when they're at their best, are some of the best on the PS4. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay was amazing, the graphics were out of this world, the environment and setting were very appropriate and did an amazing job of pulling me in and making me feel what the character should be feeling also. Anyone who thinks the visuals, gameplay, loading times, etc. deserve anything less than a 5 is, in my opinion, letting their anger about the game's story direction cloud their judgement.
One aspect of the game I especially appreciated was the small open-world section that NaughtyDog put into the game when Dina and Ellie first arrive in Seattle. It was fun to have a map with different areas marked and optional areas for me to explore and loot, it was a refreshing addition to games that are traditionally more linear from this studio.
The environment and interactions with the infected were genuinely terrifying at times. Crawling slowly through the dark and straining to catch even a glimpse of the stalkers as they silently snuck up on you, doubling back through the hospital to find doors that used to be closed now smashed open and knowing something terrible is waiting for you in the dark, crawling through the grass in a dark park and seeing people stalking closer and closer, all these scenes gave me a serious thrill and I thoroughly enjoyed playing through the game.
Lastly, the story. To qualify my score and my feelings, I played The Last of Us for the first time maybe a month ago, so I don't have 7 years of replays and discussions and game awards and history with the first game to have built up an attachment to these characters. I'm a newcomer to the series, fwiw.
That said, I really did like the story. I think the game did drag on for way too long and there were plenty of places I felt it could have skipped and the game would have been long enough still. Joel dying was of course upsetting and all the way through Ellie's first 1/3 of the game I genuinely wanted to find and kill Abby for what she did. Playing as Abby for as long as I had to was unexpected and by the end, I was able to understand her pain better and even if I still didn't like her, I didn't have the same hatred towards her. I think that was a big part of the point: seeing things from your own one-sided perspective only serves to dehumanize your enemy and keeps you from truly understanding and makes it easier to hurt and kill them. The game continuously made me understand and begin to sympathize with different groups until by the end, I didn't hate anyone and didn't want to kill anyone (aside from the Rattlers, they can go to hell) even if I didn't agree with what they were doing or why. In the end, both Abby and Ellie held onto anger and hatred for so long that they lost the people they loved, they were reduced to depraved acts of violence, they had to watch the people they loved die, and they barely survived themselves. Neither is the hero in this story, this is a story without heroes. Instead, it's a story about people and how we can let emotions and trauma take such a hold in our lives that it makes us toxic and we end up ruining everything around us. The story wasn't executed perfectly and there were some genuinely bad parts of it (the sex scene was really, really bad), but I found the game to be really enjoyable and a story worth experiencing.

Affection for the “The Last of Us” remains so strong as to leave any successor labelled unworthy. Its characters were uncommonly human and complex for the medium. Its characters were uncommonly human and complex for the medium. Dialogue was naturalistic and subtle. Normally in games, nothing is withheld—it’s all agonisingly surface-level. TLOU respected its audience, both expecting and requiring their patience, in a way which for its time felt fresh. Part II shares many of its predecessor’s strengths. That said, side-characters are sidelined, archetypical, and generally less interesting than in Part I. Leads, too, are less immediately likeable. Ellie is damaged, quasi-mute, carrying trauma which extinguishes her fiery spirit. Her co-lead is stoic and gritty—vulnerable but only if you’re listening closely. The game’s story is more structurally daring than Part I’s, and will appeal to fewer sensibilities. It occupies a vision of the future even crueller and more nihilistic than before. Characters’ monstrousness takes centre stage—moments of tenderness are fewer and further between. Violence is considerably more explicit and rendered in greater detail and more frequency. Gameplay is an astonishing improvement. TLOU was a game in which the player crouched behind waist-high boxes and tried to ignore their allied NPC noisily sprinting around under enemy’s noses. Stealth is now tight, tense, and convincing. Encounters are drawn out across enormous maps, and sometimes for up to ten minutes. There’s less tactical variety than a game like MGSV. But this was much better at making me use every option presented. You will be required to constantly switch between weapons, keep moving and improvise. The game takes a little while to find its feet—it took until Hillcrest for me, which is several hours in—but has a knockout second half with some memorable encounters. It’s a surprisingly long game—and one which arguably outstays its welcome. But I started through again from the beginning straight away. One niggle: ammo and items are less scarce. The game is a little too generous by default, but this setting and others can be adjusted in a comprehensive difficulty menu. It won’t please everyone—but like TLOU1, the fact it’s not trying to is probably the best thing about it. AAA games are so synonymous with artistic cowardice that it’s refreshing whenever any big-budget fare which could be considered disagreeable comes along. Without debates provoked by unique games like this, the whole thing would stagnate. Expand
