I loved this game, and I hated this game, let's get a few things out of the way, like standing at the base of the pyramids and truly taking in the effort taken to create them, the graphics made me want to cry. The animation was outstanding, I spent 10 minutes watching kids play in the snow.

All of these things made me really enjoy the story, the scenes with Ellie and Dina at the start, really drew me in, the facial animation being so good I truly felt for the characters more than I have perhaps in any game before. The 'incident' wasn't really a problem for me, I felt when playing that they perhaps needed a radical shift from the norm. I was prepared to give them the respect they earned from me with the first game.

Upon finishing the game I was happy and blown away, so all in all I loved it, however I started to read the negative feedback, and I have to say I can't disagree with any of it. I find myself asking was this the best the game could have been, and I think if you ask that, it has to be a no.

A lot of the things that made the first game great are gone, for me the pacing was all over the place. There is so much time spent in dark offices with just a flashlight, that really feel a bit tacked on. The first felt like gameplay and story were perfectly blended, now it's a bit of gameplay then a bit of story. There are hardly any set pieces, pushing a car, hanging upside down etc.

Although playing as another character and the result that has on the story was great in my opinion, I found it hard to really warm to them and enjoy playing as them. My advice would be play it with an open mind and enjoy it's good bits.

The story definitely is'nt a 0 or 1. That's nothing but butthurt gamers that give bad ratings because the story is'nt like the first one, that it does'nt have that tipe of story that the first one had. It's tough to please everyone, if the story was even mildly similar to the first one someone would hate the game because of that very reason. I really like this game. It's fun. The story makes you think. It's adult. It is'bt good like the first one, but its a good game nonetheless. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I thoroughly enjoyed this game, the visuals are stunning, the controls are VERY clean, the game-play loop is fun though can be a little repetitive due to the nature of the game (it's a stealth game, of courses there's going to be a TONNE of stealth). The story while I didn't ENJOY in the same way I would the story of a fun action movie, was irrefutably good. I've seen a few other people's reviews on it and their complaints mainly focus on the fact that they didn't want to play as Abby, especially when fighting Eliie, and they claim that character motivations and actions conflict. To the first point, i say, you're not meant to, Abby was a character introduced to us KILLING JOEL, we are meant to hate her, making us play as her is there to deepen the fact that she isn't JUST the evil we see when she kills Joel, not (like i've seen most assume) to make us like her.

To the second point I can partly understand where they're coming from, but I didn't encounter that conflict when I was playing, it was only when watching other's reviews that I thought 'oh i guess it could be seen that way'.

A good illustration for what the story did, was in the last scene with both Abby and Ellie, i didn't want to kill Abby. Not out of empathy or because i liked her, but because of the frankly pathetic state she was in, 'life' had punished her enough at that point, and pushing it further would have felt gratuitous. This arguably could be attributed to the frankly incredible character design going from one of the buffest people in-game to, well, the state she was in at the end but even so it was still effective.

All in all part of me feels like the immense hate for this game, from the people who have played it, stems from wanting to hate it and seeing small things and taking stances that make them feel much worse. I wouldn't say this is better than the original, or even close, but I would say it's a hell of a lot better than a lot of other games out there and was well worth the cost.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. the last of us 2 is an incredible game in every way, graphically it is crazy, it looks like a movie, in terms of gameplay and gameplay it is perfect, new enemies, new ways of moving, new options in the controls, excellent, in terms of The enemies are smarter and it could be said that much smarter than the first game, it is not as easy to face them as before and that adds up to quite a few points, and in terms of history, it is very good, half the game, in which we play with ellie is perfect, joel although many do not like it had to die.
And I feel like the part where we took over for Abby is quite entertaining and unexpected, it has great gameplay and gameplay just like Ellie's, but I feel like it was a little unnecesary.

i played through last of us 1 and the DLC as a recap and was charged up for the second one.
so last of us part 2, to start with the graphics are amazing to look at on the ps4 pro at least, there are so many little things in the game that relate to the previous game so at the very beginning if you bother to take the time to look around you can see how much detail the devs put into it.

Story wise, a big event happened which took me by surprise and the devs have done so well at capturing the emotion that even i felt like going the direction that she did. i will say at the time of this writing i have not completed the game so i cannot comment on the end of the game just yet but so far i am 13 hours into it and have not found any plot holes or major story issues so that is as far as i can comment..

Game play wise, the AI are a lot smarter and i have never had an AI actually say sorry to me when they have got caught by the enemy so AI wise they flank you, move to find you, and change patrol paths which makes them more dangerous and unpredictable.
There are some open world aspects to the game and i will say the pace of the game is slightly slower than i would like but i would say its not a big issue.
The weapon customization is quite nice and it changes the look of the weapons slightly too which is rewarding.

if you like exploring and learning about the world your in and get really into the story and environment then this is the game for you. if you want to run and gun this and just pay the bare minimum attention to the story then do not waste your money.

The main cons i can see is
1: the stagger, if you get shot or hit by more than one person it can make you stagger constantly which makes it almost impossible to get out of and this results in your death
2: the dialogue is a bit few and far between during game play and fairly short dialogue at that which sucks but so far the cons are so much less than the pros.

IN SUMMERY, i paid for the deluxe edition of this game and i have got more than i expected out of this game and still enjoying it now and will be doing a second play through once i have completed it so my personal opinion is this game is worth it.

Gameplay is a little frustrating in parts but appears to be very similar to the first game. If you enjoyed the way the first game was played, you will enjoy the gameplay mechanics in this second part.

The storyline has been discussed by everyone playing the game. While there are disappointing plot decisions, this is often the case in some of our favourite movies - not everything is sunshine and rainbows!

Overall I think this game deserves more credit than what people are currently giving it. I get that people are saddened and disappointed by the story but sometimes when we look back at these decisions, we often realise the significance to future storylines (if naughty dog get another shot...)

Definitely not giving this game a 10 due to some minor annoyances in terms of gameplay mechanics and some personal preference in terms of the types of games I enjoy. However I believe it is a journey that others should embark on.

Stop whining and play through the whole game yourself, its at the very least 20-25 hours of playtime minimum, yet people cry about it on day one release date.
When they possibly couldn´t have finished the game that exact day... unless they don´t have an actual life besides videogames of course...
Stop rating games on leaks you have read and play it yourself you angry fools.

I guess a complex revenge story is to demanding for people in these days of Marvel and all those happy little endings and shallow entertainment, lmfao.

It could have been more satisfying for all of us to kill Abby, but with all that has happend in the game it´s absolutely understandable from an narrative and emotional standpoint that Ellie can´t take it no longer and grew tired of her own hatred and pursuing her revenge.
In the end it costed both Ellie and Abby to much just to have their sweet vengeance...
Abby literally lost every friend shehad after killing Joel and Ellie most likely destroyed her relationship with Dina and Tommy, for different reasons, and let´s not forget Jesse got killed because of all of this, not to mention that she killed a pregnant women, not that i personally cared about that **** Mel, but it´s understandable that it would take effect on Ellie...
Only Wolf I felt ever sorry for is Owen anyway, but thats not the point.
The moral of the story is, to quote RDR2: 'Vengance is an idiots game'.

The game is a solid 8 out of 10.

Graphic is really something. There are very beautiful and breath-taking scenes, dark places with great attention to details and you can really see that every location was created by people, who care about their work and put their soul in it.

And for those who cares about the plot...

There are really two opportunities (and sort of two "camps"):
    - If you're really feel extremely connected to the characters of "The last of us" and you want to see basically the same story, which the first part had, but new one - then you'll most possibly will join all of those, who are disappointed and angry and better not to start to play this game at all.
    - If you want just to follow the story wherever it'll bring you, putting yourself into game character(s) shoes, then you probably will... maybe not really "enjoy", but understand what this game was aiming to make you understand

As for me, I can get why people got so upset, but that doesn't justify dumping the game in bad scores at the release date. This game really deserves better.
Game events are not going by the straight line, as it was in the first part.
The whole tone of the game is way darker than it was in the first part.
It is very different game and let's just stop the comparison here.
This game is making you to think about things, which you maybe not really facing directly every day, but it's happening all around. This game calls to very controversial feelings, and if you're trying to imagine yourself in a certain situation, presented in the game, it would be really hard to take any side or say "this is right, and that is wrong" - pretty much how it is in life. Funny, but those moments, which are causing so many people "hate" TLOU2 actually my favourite, because you believe it, you can believe that decisions are not made "as they should be", but as REAL PERSON can make them, considering all of the elements.
The only thing I would agree with is that some of the minor characters are not described for us enough, taking into account that this is pretty long game. Just some small details, which will fulfil the image are missing, but in general motivation of every one is quite clear.
I also would say that there are quite some dialogs, which are "just to be there", not bringing too much value, as well as most of the notes, which you'll find during exploration.
But does all the minuses making it the bad game? Not at all.
It's really good game. Quite overrated by critics and very under-rated by disappointed fans.

For a game that is so divisive it is one of the most exciting and interesting experiences I’ve ever played through and experienced. The level design and character designs are beautiful, each level was created so carefully with so many options for movement and progression. AI saw an overhaul and they behave fairly realistic and create challenges (especially on hardest difficulty)

I can understand some gripes with the story not being what was expected. But this does not make Th e game a 3/10 , people need to get over their pre conceived notions and understand what this game is doing and saying with the story. I enjoyed it and was on the edge of my seat. It has many emotional moments as well.

Naughty Dog's work has been my life for as long as I can remember and the first last of us is one of my favourite games of all time and is also one of history's favourite game normally being held as the peak of cinematic storytelling in video games.

So for me and the rest of the world, this game had big shoes to fill. And despite all controversies I'm going to put it out there that for me, this game met the criteria. It's an ambitious project in terms of scope and storytelling, one which is painful to review without spoilers but I will try my best for the people of the internet but only because you guys are paying me by being on my website.

Let's start of with everything else and then we'll get to the story. As to be expected from any PlayStation exclusive, this game looks absolutely gorgeous. One of those games where it just looks better than real life. We learnt from the original last of us that Naughty Dog pushes the boundaries of a console towards the end of it's life cycle and my PS4s fan was in overdrive. Facial animations in this game are the realest they've ever been. Every expression on a face is detailed and purposely put collaborating with this game's scarily detailed sound design and heart pumping score to create sprinkle on top of the already detailed gameplay. The first thing I noticed about this gameplay is it's much scarier. And I'm not talking jumpscares I'm talking edge of your seat drop your controller intensity which as a survival horror fan I loved. This gameplay would be perfect and is at times when it flows beautifully and you feel powerful and brutal, heavily improving on the first game but as helpful as AI partners are they frequently got in my way. Once I threw a brick to trigger a trap and the AI just walked in front of it and the brick hit her head. She just stood there smiling. As funny as this occurrence is it breaks immersion. I mentioned this game was brutal but that's an understatement. The violence is disgusting and real and everything about it begs you to play it with headphones. I am a bit of a violence fan to the point it's concerning but we can all agree the detail they put into the sound of digging a knife into a throat and pulling it out to hear blood spurt out so realistically it even made me retch sometimes. The violence grounds the gameplay of this game to an entire new level.

The story is the most ambitious part of this game and the genius of it is it can only work in the format of a video game. I can't say anything to spoil but what I saw in this game I've never seen in another piece of fiction. My only grievance is for some new characters, you're not left emotionally invested with their stories being criminally boring but this part of the story is needed, still being a negative.

This game gets a 8/10. I don't get what the internet was mad about with this one.

love the video game tbh. I don't know why too many people hate it, maybe because the story telling is not for you. Each characters have their own reason and we all learned something from them. Overall, The Last of Us 2 is a great video game, congratulation to Naughty Dog, great job

I wasn't a big fan of the switching POV's especially since it felt so out of nowhere, but once you get into the other character it isn't a big deal. I think the writing at the end is a bit flawed but it didn't take away from my overall experience with the game. I enjoyed this game a lot. It was heartbreaking and beautiful despite its flaws. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow... I feel like there is so much to unpack in this game. I truly did enjoy my time playing this game. The art design was fantastic, the scale of the world was amazing, and to me overall the story was heart wrenching and at times hard to watch. I felt like the combat was pretty smooth and loved the amount of customization there was in the game compared to the first game.

I went into this game with no spoilers and had no clue what was going to happen. This being said, the moment Joel dies in the story I was in shock. But at the same flip of the coin I knew that Joel had to die. His story was told in the first game. I was upset he died and was angry but knowing how I felt in the first game, all emotions run high. I wanted to go on the revenge journey with Ellie. During this time the game felt a little slow to me, but I don’t say that as a bad thing. What I love most about this game is it’s ability to take a moment to breath and reflect. It’s these nice moments that really let me get to know the characters. The game slowly starts to pick up momentum getting more gruesome and intense. I found myself struggling with the characters about their morality and didn’t agree with the choices being made. I love how it was building up until Abby finds Ellie.

This is when I got a little upset. For the next 10 hours or so I had to play as Abby. I didn’t care about her character, however seeing her perspective opened my eyes a bit more and over time I enjoyed her character. I still didn’t agree with what she did and I don’t think by any stretch she could redeem herself but I at least liked to see her right her wrongs and try to become a better person after her mistakes. Abby’s story arch over time became fun but it’s placement in the game just felt wrong. You get all this momentum to then slow down again. I think I would have preferred a more cat and mouse approach over the 10hrs of this character over backtracking. The flashbacks for me were fine and placed in the game well, it was just The pacing of Abby and Ellie’s journey. Having the intensity go to a slow crawl again felt off to me. At the end of the game when you don’t kill Abby I felt so happy. When I saw Abby all strung up and weak I felt like justice had been served for her actions. I was also happy that Ellie realized that she had lost herself in all of this and slowly began to have some sense of morality in the end even though it cost her everything. Overall from the captivating graphics, fun gameplay, and good story, to the few little bugs in the game that I encountered and the pacing of the story I give this game an 8/10. If the pacing was done a bit differently I could easily give this game a 9/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I gave it a positive review simply cuz the art, gameplay, level design, etc, anything but writing team. And it's not like I hate the story that much but just a mix feeling.

For me, it's a pretty convincing story, like Joel's death and stuff. But I really don't give a **** about Abby's perspective, that really gave me a hard time to enjoy the game, and that's almost half of the game. But still, like I said, the gameplay is still very good throughout the whole game, so I can still kinda enjoy the game while playing as Abby.

The other thing is, I wish they gave us choices. After Abby's fight, at the farm. I really don't want Ellie to pursue revenge anymore, and if I do, I wanna kill her. Maybe not torture her, but at least end this. And the game just go the opposite way both time for me. Also, in the end, there's nothing left for Ellie. For a character that I like so much, it's kinda hard to take in. In fact, the rest of that day, I don't feel like doing anything.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't know why people hate this game.
I've spent my own money and I won't regret it. The gameplay is very interesting. Added as new types of enemies, like dogs or stalkers, and new mechanics, such as masking lying in the bushes and crawling under cars. The game is interesting to play, as you can find a large number of solutions to a particular situation. At high levels of complexity, there is a huge lack of resources, and because of this, you have to be smart to pass the location. The graph impresses with its detail and beauty. Yes, the game has a subtext that I would not like to see, but it does not spoil the dignity of this game. At the beginning of the game, Joel's death shows all the cruelty of the world described in the game. Yes, it would be possible to bring out such an important character in a different, more heroic way, but then both the player and Ellie did not feel that hatred for the character's killers. The ending is also quite logical. Ellie didn't kill Abby, because she saw her and Levi as Joel and herself. She didn't forgive the killer of the person she loved, but she couldn't act like a monster either. Trying to take revenge and succumb to anger, she lost something that was so dear to her. I think Ellie's story is interesting and logical, but not Abby's. This character weak cursing helps two Seraphicum, with the tribe which she fought for a long time and have not experienced sageline to them.
As a player who really liked the relationship between Joel and Ellie in the first part of the game, I also lacked the depth of the relationship between the characters. It is difficult to feel both the connection between Dina and Ellie, and the relationship between Abby and her friends, but still there is a relationship sometimes you start to worry about the characters, but this would like to see more often.
Bottom line: I liked the game, and I don't understand the hatred surrounding it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow. This game is absolutely, positively incredible. It has the same vibes as the first one. It is brutal, it is gut wrenching, it is stressful, it is kind of miserable, and it is heart-warming. The graphics are absolutely stunning and the game-play is so much fun. The voice acting and character writing is absolutely incredible. I adore the diversity and LGBTQ representation in it as well - LGBTQ people exist and are not a political statement; we deserve mainstream stories like this, even if it is a brutal post-apocalyptic gore and revenge throwdown. Overall I liked the story, despite minor plot holes and some loose ends. My biggest complaint about the story is the ending; SPOILER ALERT! I believe the tail end of it set in California was highly unnecessary and felt unfinished. I wish the theatre battle between Ellie and Abby was the final battle - Ellie could have had the same realization in the basement that she had on the beach. I am glad that Ellie, Abby, Dina, Tommy, and Lev all lived in the end and wish it ended with Ellie and Dina being happy on the farm and Abby and Lev going off to start new lives together. I would give it a 10/10 if the ending wasn't what it was. Overall, it was a great ride and I loved it. Thank you, Team NaughtyDog! (Also, thank you for not killing any of the LGBTQ characters - that trope is overdone and I was so worried the whole time one of them would die.) Expand

My biggest issue with the game is the same reason why a lot of people are hating the game, I will not spoil it here but honestly the people hating the game have a point.
But I could never call it a bad game, honestly it's an amazing game.
But its biggest enemy it's PART1, The love people have for the first game it's the reason the story is not being well received by many, because the plot in PART2 goes into a completely different direction than the last game. And honestly it's very reasonable that so many people are disliking the story.
But after analyzing the game a lot, playing it for a second time and watching a lot of reactions by different streamers online, I do think the game and the story do deliver it just that the direction that took is not what many of us wanted.
But I can not call it bad. In my opinion it is really good, and I think it's worth playing and having the experience for yourself, it's dark, it's vengeful and immersive. However, it is harsh when it comes around the last game and if you do love the last game (just like I do) there is a big possibility you don't like the story.
But I still believe it's worth playing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Alright, let’s see what was the problem here. The gameplay is great. It’s one of the last PS4 games due to the coming of the PS5 by the end of the year. I understand people being upset with this game. I myself got really upset at some points but definitely it doesn’t deserve a 0, 1, 2 as a score nor a 10 or a 9. This game sold fans that we were having a new adventure with the duo we all love Ellie & Joel. A lot of us played the first game long time ago therefore it was exciting to think of it. But somehow and that is totally comprehensive the writers decided to go other way. Joel the protagonist of the first game gets killed in a gruesome way at a few hours of just start playing. Later the attitude of Ellie is rude with the people that care about her. I loved this character Dina she was great but the attitude of Ellie wasn’t the best towards her. So later after some hours of play through the game switches to Abby... this character which is responsable of the death of Joel. I felt that this was done with the intention of emphasizing with Abby but she just killed a character we all loved. At this time we don’t care what could she have done. But the game makes you play as her for a long time. This could have been a great adventure killing Joel was unnecessary if you ask me but if the writers wanna do it that way it’s fine I just think that the could have take it totally different maybe the story of Ellie and Dina that happens due to other circumstances...
The story is really dramatic and depressing to be honest. Ellie loses everything at the end and Abby doesn’t lose anything. Ellie loses two of her fingers, Jessie, Tommy, Dina & Joel... and man when the credits rolled I felt really, really sad. I didn’t want an end like that... I rate this game a 7 because it has good gameplay and at the end I guess It fulfilled its purpose which was make me sad... I cried. Those flashbacks with Joel just broke my heart. So I guess that was an intention. But making us play as Abby... I felt it offensive and unnecessary

Naughty Dog and company should be proud of the game they developed. Of course, anyone is bound to have negative thoughts about the game for various reasons. Yet, after completing the game once after roughly 30 hours of true gameplay time, I am writing my first review for a game that has great moments, but also flaws like any other game. i will breakdown this review into brief sections covering the story, graphics, gameplay and character development.

    Story (9/10)
Without getting into story specifics (no spoilers here outside one character reveal), players take control of Ellie as she reworks herself after a tragic event that sets off an adventure rooted in hate and vengeance. Friends join her on this quest fraught with danger around every corner in search of the culprits that triggered this adventure in the first place. The player suffers and feels through grueling sequences that put the player in positions that they otherwise would not want to make. In a world nearly 30 years later that is continuing to evolve from the events of the first part, hard decisions are a part of the story and Naughty Dog gives the player little choice in the matter. The player watches Ellie grow to loathe vengeance as each action builds upon each other. Then, as a matter of perspective, the player assumes control of another female character named Abby. She herself is on a similar path as Ellie, a tragic event leads to drastic measures, but now she is attempting to redefine herself. The player will see bloodshed, tears and gut wrenching moments that do stay true to Neil Druckmann's intentions on the themes in game. While various parts of the story as fleshed out as much as possible, other parts are largely filled with plot holes. Though no game can realistically flesh out every possible detail and still keep a riveting storyline, I felt detached from some characters during the story. This brings us to the next section.

    Character Development (5/10)
I will say it straight here: this was one of the more disappointing aspects of the game, but nevertheless, there were still good parts. The good: the redemption of both Abby and Ellie is clear as day and the choices they make are reflective of their past and their desires for the future they want. More good: for those who played the first game, we're already attached to Joel and it doesn't take much to know how much Ellie cares about Joel and how that drives her into the adventure she goes on. Now for constructive. Certain supporting cast members felt lackluster. I could never really get attached to them in the way I did with Henry and Sam in the first game. Perhaps the focus was solely on Ellie and Abby for the sake of a story driven by hate. However, even with a lovely story within all this hate (a couple exists that I loved, but never could fully understand the whole dynamics of the two individuals), I only found myself displeased with the death of a character that I only got mere minutes of for a backstory. Certain character details aren't as fleshed out, but for the main characters, Naughty Dog did what they could to tell the story whilst giving players insight to the growth and downfall of each side of Ellie and Abby.

    Graphics (10/10)
Not much to say here other than the world this game is played in is absolutely stunning. I felt like I was in each location and felt the devastation around me. Enemies even looked as human as the main characters and even sounded the same. The dynamics between the graphics and story complemented each other.

    Gameplay (7/10)
The game itself still retains a lot of the exploration seen in the first. If a player wants to make sure they have everything, then scouring the whole map will take a lot more time than usual. The incorporation of jumping and prone mechanics were nice additions that the first game didn't have. They added another element of stealth that is utilized so that encounters weren't always gunfights and fistfights. I do wish the same amount of trophies existed as in the first game, but nothing can change that now. Collectibles still feel meaningful though I do miss having comic relief in the form of jokes and conversations as the first game had. Yet, this game is its own game despite being a sequel to the first.

    Overall Rating: 8/10
Overall, the game has its flaws in the story and character development. I am proud of the work done to flesh out the maps, enemies and other small details. Naughty Dog developed a game they are proud to call theirs. Love it or hate it, there is a certain amount of bliss to the game and I liked it. Though it's not a 10/10 game, I do have to side with the critics: the story hit its mark with me and I understood, even though I wanted the choice to decide, why Neil Druckmann wrote the story. All I have to say is: play or watch someone play the game and make the decision yourself on whether to love it, hate it or be mixed.

In my personal experience, the death of Joel was an impact but did not blind me to hate Abby for the rest of the game. I managed to empathize with her, and enjoyed her just as much as Ellie.

This game shows 2 interesting narratives that could have been more powerful were they played in an alternating way, for example showing flashbacks of the relationship between Owen and Abby and later showing how Ellie kills Owen and Mel. This would have been a bit more empathizing for Abby's character.

Overall, a breathtaking game in what refers to graphics, varied combat mechanics (Though sometimes repetitive at points), and a story that was not perfect, but not garbage either.

The Last of Us pt. 2 takes the first game and cranks it up to 11! On the hardest difficulty it really does feel like you need to be resourceful and careful with every approach in the game. Makes you feel like a true survivor. The pacing and time jumps between sections of the game do slow the pacing down quite a bit, but overall it’s a beautiful game to play through.

    Loved every second playing!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us: Part II took me some time to come to terms with. Gameplay wise, its very much the same as TLoU1. Which in my mind is one of the sequels failings as innovation is important. The game, and its predecessor aren't necessarily about the game play, however, which brings me to the meat of my thoughts: the story.

I knew from the beginning, from the first minute I took control over Abby, what the game's story wanted to accomplish. For most of the game it didn't work on me. The game wants you to sympathize with Abby. To understand why she killed Joel and possibly even agree with her decision; but for someone who has played through Part 1, I couldn’t do it. That combined with the game's insistence on trying to make you feel appalled by Ellie's killing of the enemies laid before her, despite nearly all of them attacking her first and forcing her to defend herself or be killed and despite Ellie herself reacting with disgust and panic in two instances at the cruelty she commits. Instead, I found myself rooting for Ellie more and more the longer the game went on.

Then halfway through it switches us into Abby's shoes once again. I was furious. Not in the least because the idea of several days – my usual turn around was slowed by being bound to my wife's schedule as she wanted to experience the game’s story with me – of progress erased so I could see the side of the story of a character I hated infuriated me and admittedly led to me resenting the sections with Abby. This resentment only got worse as the game humanized her through the introduction of Yara and Lev while failing to have her show any kind of reaction or remorse to the things she does – save for one miss able line to Lev about erasing guilt – unlike Ellie. By the end of Abby’s sections, I honestly didn’t feel sympathy for her. Her entire section only served to highlight her negative aspects as much as it humanized her. Best exemplified by the contrast between Abby and Ellies actions against Dina and Mel, respectively. When Ellie unknowingly killed the pregnant Mel in self-defense, she vomits and falls into panic due to her actions. When Abby is presented with the same choice, but knowingly, she is giddy at the idea of killing the pregnant Dina to hurt Ellie like Ellie hurt her. Abby is only stopped by Lev yelling at her for the near action.

The game then continues to hammer home how much revenge is ruining Ellie’s life in the sections dealing with her home life. She suffers from severe PTSD caused by Joel’s death. Unable to sleep or find true closure without making Abby pay. The segment is – in my opinion – very well done and made my wife and I hurt for Ellie; begging her to forget about Abby when Tommy offers her a second chance at vengeance, despite knowing fully well she can’t bring herself to. Meanwhile, Abby is in a relatively good place when we see her again before being captured by the Rattlers. This lack of equality is the crux of my issues with the Last of Us: Part II.

The game makes it abundantly clear that revenge is bad. It destroys Ellie’s life; but seemingly only for Ellie. Abby kills Joel in the beginning, fulfilling her revenge. When Ellie comes to take vengeance on Abby, Abby wins again – despite losing a few friends (many of which she would have lost anyway due to her own actions against the WLF) and leaves with Lev to find a better life. Come the ending Abby is in poor condition due to something entirely unrelated to revenge and has seemingly moved on with her life while Ellie is devastated. In the end, Ellie nearly crosses a line in pursuit of vengeance. Threatening to kill an innocent to get her revenge on an emaciated woman who doesn’t even want to fight. Sparing Abby completes Ellie’s emotional arc, finally allowing herself to let go of the drive for vengeance. Letting herself move on with grief and eventually acceptance in a way she’d never be able to achieve if she’d killed Abby on the beach. It is the blatant lack of equality in the fact that Abby receives no karmic rebuttal unlike Ellie – who suffers viciously both physically and emotionally over the game for her revenge. What we are left with is a game that only half-sells its otherwise beautiful message.

Teetering on 7.5-8 for me. There is 0 fan service, the story is told in a pretty unfavorable way and has weird pacing, but I liked it regardless. The combat is standard and barely adds anything new from the first game, but it's fun anyway. It can get old especially during parts where the story felt like it was being dragged a bit, so it made getting from point A to B unenjoyable. However,Teetering on 7.5-8 for me. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really loved playing this game. But that doesn’t mean I hate Joel or Ellie. And that doesn’t mean I loved Abby. I actually hated Abby almost the entire time. Even let Ellie kill her on purpose a couple times so I could see her get her revenge and pretend that was the end of the game. But I know that that’s not what actually happens and finished the game anyway. I saw the way Abby was stripped of a lot at the end and actually felt bad for her. I did end up liking her a little bit but she’s definitely not a character I love or even really care about. I was pretty indifferent to her. Didn’t care if she lived or died. I mean, she was perfectly fine with killing a pregnant woman until Lev stopped her. While Ellie didn’t know she killed a pregnant woman and then had a panic attack when she finds out she did. The game really messed with my emotions and I love games that do that. I wish Ellie got a little bit of a happier ending. Not a complete happy ending, but at least got to keep her freaking fingers. I see what they were trying to do with this game, but I’m not sure it was executed all that well when it comes to the story but I do still like it. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay was fun, and I found myself wanting to play more and more. So I’ll give it a higher rating for that. But it’s not a full 10 for me because of the way the story was told and executed. It could’ve been better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay is fine, the more you play around and get creative with it the let's tedious it gets otherwise it's just begins to be tedious after a while. Graphics and the sound design are breathtaking as always.
What naughty dog said wasn't ''play the game for yourself and then judge'' they said that you couldn't judge the game just by the leaks, just by knowing ''oh, Joel died, oh, in the end Ellie doesn't end up killing Joel's killer'' literally anyone who sees that will think is **** which after finishing the game, I can confidently say is not, Literally everybody knew that Joel was going to die in this game. He stopped humanity's progress while killing most of the fireflies. Joel really needed to die if they wanted to make a sequel. The people that complain about the way he was killed because it wasn't ''honorable'' or it wasn't ''justice to the character'' should just stop, This is the last of us and 99% of the people die like literal dogs and this game doesn't shy about that.
I don't think that Joel's death is the problem with the story at all, in fact it gives the player a pretty good motivation to play. Joel is a pretty beloved character, and that's why killing him is such a powerful way to motivate the player on this revenge murder spree. The problem is that you only play half of the game as Ellie seeking revenge for Joel, and in the second half you play as the very same person that tortured and murdered him. why? why would you do that? who wants that? but as I went through the game i found myself seeing things differently. Not exactly sympathizing with Abby but just getting caught up and then invested on her side of the story as she also begins to change.
Ellie's story is very linear, it's a revenge murder spree while Abby's was very chaotic and messy, traversing through war zone after war zone. It was very fun connecting the dots between both their stories and the first last of us.
However the game does have it's faults, with such a big cast of characters compared to the first last of us, jumbling one after the other, the side characters' character development is what i found lacking. Sometimes how the story is executed is just confusing as well, they stack flashbacks onto flashbacks, which you really need to put a lot of focus into to understand the story which was not fun. There were times i had to take notes cause i tend to forget details if i don't continuously play the game. Lastly, the 2 or 3 boss fights in this game suck, the melee fight with these huge cult members. It's only mechanic was dodge and attack to them. Personally i would've wanted more of a variety on these boss fights because there were just a few amount of boss fights in the game and to limit 2 or 3 of them with the same dodge and attack thing, was just being lazy.

Another part ''User reviews from people who played the game'', most of the reviews came out literally when the game came out, When there was no physical time to have played the entire game, people rated the game with 0, ONLY KNOWING WHAT HAPPENED IN THE LEAKS, and now that the people has played the game that some time has passed, most people are not counter bombing scores, it's rising because people how has actually played the game are rating it. it's not a game made for people who only sees things black and white or people that cannot see things other than ''uuuuuhhh she killed Joel! what a villain! that's it, bad game''. In short, just don't buy this game if you want happy honorable fun time with Joel and Ellie.

The wonderful storytelling centred around Joel and Ellie, the fun gameplay and the great pacing. The temptation and risk was always to make a sequel that’s bigger at the cost of not being better and sadly that’s what Naughty Dog have fallen into the trap of doing. The story is fine (outside the controversy that I’ll talk about later) - way better than anything out there and I understand why they took the direction they did, but it simply doesn’t have the magic and the originality of the first game. The gameplay is a better version of the first one, but this is both a blessing and a curse. Moment to moment it’s fun, but given the fact that Naughty Dog only seem to be able to make one type of game, i.e. linear, melee, guns and simple environmental puzzle solving, you’ve already played it in the first game, Unchartered 4 and Lost Legacy. Problems still exist - close combat fighting is a pain, human boss battles haven’t progressed beyond L1 to dodge and then square to hit and you just keep doing this. Pacing however is where my biggest gripe is. In the quest to make it bigger, Naughty Dog have added so much padding to the game. At times I was happy to have a little break from the action but at times I simple didn’t want to go through yet another non combat flash back. And (always a bad sign) often wanted this game to come to an end. There’s been a huge amount of fan based negative press against this game, which in the end affected my enjoyment of the game. This annoyed me, but at the same time it was a real wake up call to how the industry works. Simply put everything you hear from trusted sites such as IGN - take with a pinch of salt. Ultimately these sites are reliant on the big gaming companies giving them early access and exclusives and you can image that if they are not nice about a game, well they won’t get the next ... Ever wondered why everyone working for one of these sites have the same opinion? I can only assume that they are told what their employers have aligned on ... Sony and Naughty Dog’s biggest crime however was to lie about what this game is about. It went too far and they mis-sold a game. You just cannot do that. All that aside, the reality is that it is a great game, but it’s just not up there with the true greats. It seemed that the game got stuck in a time freeze (2013 in fact) and the developers got so excited about fancy graphics and their crazy and original idea of a story (which it isn’t) that they didn’t notice the world had moved on. They didn’t notice or try and keep up with masterpieces like BOTW, Red Dead 2, GTA 5, Horizon Zero Dawn and Witcher 3 and instead delivered a game that would have been really cool had it been 2014. Being a huge fan of the first game I always hoped that it would be left to be something truly special. Sadly I always knew that there was too much money at stake and that we’d see a sequel that would be bigger, but sadly not better. And sadly, that’s exactly what Sony and Naughty Dog have delivered. Logically it makes sense to have a sequel and it’s a great game, but Last of Us has never been about logic, it’s about emotions and there’s too much love for the first game for anything to go wrong for a sequel and sadly some things have gone wrong in this sequel. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the game. Character interaction was fluid and realistic. Graphics look amazing. Joel's death was beautifully done. Which I know a lot of people disagree with but hear me out. Narratively Joel had done as much as he could and to kill him off in such a "cruel" and realistic way was a good motivator not only for the characters in the game but also for the player who had spent so much playing as Joel in the first game. And some people argue that the way he died was dumb. Joel wouldn't reveal who he was. He's too smart for that. But that only works as a problem if no time had passed for there to be growth and change for Joel. We see through flash backs that Joel has changed as a character. He is more trusting of people and works with them better. Before he would have likely left Abby to her fate and moved on but he saved her. They obviously deal with other groups so introductions are normal for Joel and this group. His death is realistic and works very well narratively and to say otherwise is just incredibly ignorant of how people and stories operate. Sure, have gripes and opinions on how it could've been better but to say "I'm not playing the game because Joel died". That's dumb and if you're not ready to play a game with depth then why are you playing Last of us at all? Go back to playing Mario or some **** Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Getting this out of the way quickly: This game isn't as good as the first one. It's almost impossible to live up to the standard of the first one, simply because of one thing: expectations. The first game came out to almost no fanfare, mainly because it was a brand new IP in a genre that had started to wear out its welcome (zombie apocalypse survival), and became a smash hit, primarily because of the emotionally resonant story. This game had expectations on it as soon as it was revealed, so it was almost impossible to please everybody with this.

That being said... here's what I liked and disliked about it:

    Pros:
    1) Gameplay is still solid
    - While most of the mechanics are the same as the first one (no complaints there), there are some new additions that keep things fresh and interesting, such as swimming, dodging, rope mechanics, dogs that can sniff out your position, new types of infected, crawling, silencers on pistols, and more.

    2) Visually stunning
    - This one is pretty obvious. Even the negative reviews of the game acknowledge this.

    3) Acting is top-notch
    - You won't find much better acting performances in any video game ever, especially the leads (Joel, Ellie, and Abby). Even the seemingly-minor characters are performed well.

    4) Narrative risk-taking that paid off
-This is where things might get controversial. Naughty Dog took some huge risks in this game, and the fallout from these risks is readily apparent (Joel dying early on, and playing as Joel's murderer for most of the second half of the game, is what most of the negative gripes on the game are). However, I personally think they worked: while playing as Abby was a little frustrating at first, you begin to realize that there is more than one perspective in this apocalyptic universe... everybody is the hero of their own story. Because we were only exposed to Joel and Ellie's point of view in the first game, it is easy to say that they're the good guys. However, looking at the first game's ending from an outsider's view (someone that isn't emotionally involved in Joel and Ellie's story), you see a man who took away the chance at a potentially life-changing cure because he wanted to save a little girl, killing everyone he ran into along the way. Once you see it that way, it's hard to think of Joel as a hero. Even Ellie seems to think Joel did the wrong thing. Playing as Abby basically forces the player to humanize with the "enemy," making us empathize with all of the people that we spent the first half of the game brutally murdering. Once you get into Abby's story a bit, things turn around, and honestly the game picks up quite a bit in terms of set pieces and exciting encounters. Games like this take the choice out of the player's hands and force them to live with the choices these players make, and if one can shun their hate for just a moment and try to relate to these characters, the result is pretty rewarding. Plus, most of the fun stuff (gameplay-wise) happens in Abby's story, if you can make it there.

    5) Story as a whole is resonant
-I personally don't think the story is as bad as people say. Even though I was exposed to the leaks before playing, I tried not to let those things ruin it for me. I'll say this: context matters a lot in films and video games alike. Just reading out the plot points will make almost every story seem boring and poorly-written. In this case, the story unfolds naturally, and if you let it, it all makes sense and doesn't feel ham-fisted into the narrative in order to make something happen. While the brutal violence didn't make me question my actions like a lot of reviewers say, the idea that the cycle of revenge isn't good for anyone was a good lesson to end on.

    Cons:
    1) The ending
-I didn't hate what the ending was going for... I just feel that the way they executed it was sloppy. I can kind of forgive Abby not killing Ellie and Dina in the theater (Lev was there and convinced her it not to do it, but it still feels wrong), it was a little harder to forgive Ellie not killing Abby at the end. At first, she seemed content with letting her go as they walked to the boats, then she suddenly wants to kill her, and then... she doesn't? I get that change of heart happens, but three times in the span of a couple minutes? They could have executed it a lot better.

    2) Game doesn't get truly exciting until the second half
    - I didn't hate the set pieces and the encounters in the first half as Ellie, but... it all felt the same as the first game. As much as I loved the first game, I want things to feel a LITTLE different... it got stale fast. Sadly, you have to get past the Abby vitriol in order for the game to get truly fresh and exciting.

    3) Some of the characters sucked
-Although the main characters are great, some of the side characters are just... there. Characters like Jesse and Dina and don't really have visible personalities, they just exist, making it hard to really care about them.

Visual and environment are really good make you feel a apocalyptic world, it brings the best out of the game. Gameplay is quite so not satisfying as many and myself was having difficult to adapt the movement of Elie. The story was not good as we expected it carry many flaws. Firstly the death of joel discouraged many players as we have been very connected to joel from last of us part 1 and really wanted to see the joel's fatherhood towards Elie. After the death of joel the game just remain as quest of Elie killing everyone involved in Joel's murder one and another. Secondly the switch to Abby’s perspective doesn’t just grind the narrative to a halt, it also dampens the gameplay experience. So our ratings to visual and gamplay is 9/10, whereas the story only gets 7/10.

For me this game is something Special. It tried to pull a stunt not many games would be willing to pull.
It took the heroes and beloved Characters and made them human, made them flawed. the story wasnt perfect and it wasnt bad it was just that a story that wanted to be told and it was told through amazing gameplay and mediocre to good cutscenes i enjoyed my time and will ahve a second go

I really liked the game but there are problems with the storytelling of the plot.

Despite all the hate and negative feedback that the game has received, I actually think The Last of Us Part 2 has a strong story. Not necessarily narrated in a way I wanted it to be, but nonetheless a strong story. I would have hoped for a happier ending or at least one less sad, but honestly it fits the overall dark context.
I also get the idea behind the being Abbey part but I believe

Not necessarily narrated in a way I wanted it to be, but nonetheless a strong story. I would have hoped for a happier ending or at least one less sad, but honestly it fits the overall dark context.
I also get the idea behind the being Abbey part but I believe this could have been better scripted; possibly by putting her story at the beginning of the game. It took me actually quite a while to accept her character emotionally after what she had done to Joel. The part I liked the least were the Ellie flashbacks particularly the one in the dinosaur museum. These were just boring and really interrupted the flow of the game negatively. Also the scavenger hunting was a bit too much for my taste.

Is it a great game? Technically definitely a masterpiece with a strong but extremely grim story that leaves you with a sad feeling at the end of the game. While this is not necessarily what I look for in a computer game, I (artistically) accept it as it is. Where the game fell short for me was the storytelling as it could have been much better executed. I also would have preferred more combat and less scavenger hunts.
But overall still one of the best games I have played and I definitely do not regret buying or playing it. Let's hope that some of the loose ends will be picked up in Part 3.

    What I liked:
Graphics: For me visually the best PS4 game so far. Whether it is the environment, the characters, or the cut scenes, everything looks just breathtaking. I have never seen such an amount of detail in a PS4 game. Everything moves and looks so realistically. (10 out of 10)

Audio: The sound of the game is spectacular and the voice acting top notch. I think Naughty Dog could have used a bit more background music, but definitely some of the best audio in a video game (9 out of 10)

Performance: I have never seen a game that looks and sounds so great and yet has zero performance issues. In my 30+ hours of play-through I cannot remember a single moment where the game was stuck, had a visual frame rate drop, or other performance issues. For the level of detail and motion in the environment as well as characters an absolutely outstanding achievement. (10 out of 10)

Controls: More or less the same controls as the original Last of Us which are very intuitive, easy to master and fun. Nothing to complain about here (10 out of 10)

    What I did not like:
Gameplay: Nearly the same gameplay as the original Last Of Us with some slight improvements which I liked. But in comparison to its predecessor there was less combat and more scavenger hunting which became often quite boring. While i focused for the most part of the first half of the game on finding all secrets, I stopped half-way through and just focused on finishing the story. (5 out of 10)

Replayability: I am currently not inclined to play it a second time but may eventually do so to get the Platinum trophy. I like the fact that the game offers the possibility to restart with all your achieved skills and collected weapons from the first play-through. (6 out of 10)

This game is dripping with atmosphere. The gameplay is the smoothest I've experienced in this generation and the soundtrack holds up to the first game.

I enjoyed the story but is has its problems. Especially when compared to the first game. There are some strange narrative choices in throughout, particularly with Ellie and the choices she makes in game. Overall though I had a great

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is getting hate in the wrong way like people are homophobic or transphobic and also people just hate the game because a main character is dead that is for some a reason a "hero" even though joel isn't a hero he's just a character that is very well developed that makes us like him but as for his selfish choices he saved ellie but then killed a lot of other people that have done a virus so that doesn't make him hero, now for the gameplay and the story ok so for the gameplay the stealth has really improved and sound effects and the graphics have improved and i'm very happy about that that means they have works a lot obn this game also sthe combat areas make you feel that you are in a city and not in a combat just made to be there and also the combat in there is even scarier than in uncharted 4 the gameplay srsly improved from uncharted 4 it is even bettter than uncharted 4 ok now lets talk about the story so we have ellie, dina, jesse, abby, etc... The narrative in every cut scene is really good the only thing that bugs me is that the flashbacks were not in the right place like some were rushed some of them were supposed to be there, so the character developement is actually good except with yara and jordan they were the least developed best character in the game but the rest are good developed and best developed is lev, best character in the game that i've experienced with this game, so yeah some sections were too long like abby that section was too long, but overall this was a pretty good game i enjoyed the gameplay, i enjoyed the story so yes i didn't waste my money for it 8/10 btw shoutout to all the people who did the graphic and the sound design. metacritic is the worst app to put a review because you can barely see wth are you typing in your review it is the worst that i've seen . And also this is annoying and yeah that is why my spelling is bad in here because of metacritc Expand

The graphics, visual are amazing and the game play is good. The story is a bit all over the place with Abby story after Ellie. I think it would of worked better if they worked along side each other, building up to the fight in the aquarium, but that's just my opinion. I would of also liked Joel in the game more with flash backs or to spend more time with him.

worse than the first part of course, but overall a good game.
The plot could be made better, the characters need to be revealed more. Very similar to the AMC series The Walking Dead
My rating is 8 out of 10. I hope in the third part the developers will take into account the wishes of the players and draw the right conclusions!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a very dark and morally difficult game. It is 100% worse than first part, but all these low ratings are in no way justified. The game has a very good graphic and sound component. As for the plot, I think that the actions of all the characters are well explained and understandable, but as I said, the game came out very dark. If in the first part Ellie was the light at the end and we were sure that despite the ambiguous act of Joel, Ellie would live. Here at the end there remains only a sense of relax from the end of the game. Ellie in the first part was very smart and funny, and the harmony between her and Joel was the main asset of the game. And here she is only obsessed with revenge and there is no particular connection between partners. I think the storyline with Abby was too long and it was worth more to reveal the story of those two Scars. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
