So...The games graphics overall are the best i have ever seen on console and the story telling/how much work and thought was put into this game. The Physics, the take downs and animations look are AMAZING. But.... Naughty dog did the give us, THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN WAITING 7 YEARS TO PLAY the worst story they could.
    Everything was taken away from Elli. Joel dies, Dina leaves her, and she can no longer play guitar AND we dont get revenge... Im sure the Netflix version will be worse.

    Game gets an 8 Because i still feel like it was an OK game.    … Expand

    Great game. Don't listen to the 0 ratings this game is worth every penny. Just go into the game open minded. Because if u go into it close minded u won't like it.

    Loved the game! gameplay feels intense and is challenging if you want. The world is beautiful in its own and yeah the story sometimes frustrates but for me the overcoming of these feelings and emotions against certain characters made the experience completely fresh, interesting and gave the final moments an even higher emotional impact!     personajes:Los personajes nuevos son muchos pero uno en especial que es jesse que a mi parecer fue muy desaprovechado también hubieron 3 infectados nuevos que fueron los tambaleantes, el chasqueador bombardero y come me gusta llamarlo a mi el super gordo buenos infectados que supieron muy bien donde ponerlos

    mapa/localización:la localización del juego me gusto y no a la vez porque me pareció raro la ultima localización del juego en santa barbara

    realismo/gráficos: no hace falta que diga algo de los gráficos y las estética del juego se ven por si solo que son extraordinarias

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was one hell of a ride, the entire time I was at the edge of my seat with suspense. The gameplay was smooth and incredibly fun, and I'm already playing it from start to finish again just to soak it all in even more. Lot's of people question the story but I think it was really well executed. The cast as expected from a Naughty Dog game is likeable and talented. The enemies do get a bit repetitive after a while, but I'm pretty sure that's just a shooter video game problem in general. I personally loved finding the notes and artifacts and learning more about the enemy factions through that. The game does a really good job of making you feel for your character, no matter who you are playing as. The new characters are interesting and sometimes I hated them while other times I loved them. The thing about going into this post apocalyptic game is to remember that not everyone will make it out alive, and the sooner you accept that, the sooner you will understand the situations that you are placed in. Naughtydog stated that this is not a 'fun' game, and while the usually grim story does reflect this idea, since often times I disagreed with the things I had to make Ellie do, I did have a lot of fun while playing! My only gripe is that it seemed to drag on for hours longer than necessary with the epilogue. I understand the importance of what they did there, but I would have been perfectly happy if they left out the entire piece with the rattlers.… Expand

El juego me parece tremendo en el apartado gráfico, el detallismo es increíble y nunca antes visto, deja la vara muy alta para los juegos de next gen.. no me quiero imaginar un juego de ND en PS5. En cuanto a la historia, me fue difícil jugar con Abby y crear esa empatia que si tuve con Joel y Ellie en el primer juego, no veía la hora de volver a manejar a Ellie, creo que en mi parecer le hubiera dado algunos escenarios más como por ejemplo la isla serafita con Ellie a caballo me hubiera parecido excepcional. Y con respecto a la muerte de Joel, le hubiera dado un poco más de protagonismo y que no se encuentre con Abby tan rápido. Gran trabajo ND … Expand

Gameplay: 9/10 This is obviously an improvement over the first game, it’s so fun to throw a bottle at an enemy, jump on top of them, stab them. Then shoot a guy with my last bullet before jumping back into the grass and re-entering stealth. All the systems and enemy AI work perfectly. I love how allies now hide from enemies naturally. The combat alone sells the game Ellie’s story: 8/10

    The arc of revenge is wonderful, it’s not misery porn, it’s a detailed and beautiful character study about the cycle of revenge and seeing two peoples lives fall apart because of it Abby’s story: 7/10

    This part of the game is easily the weakest, with some amazing moments, like when you find the people you’ve murdered as Ellie. It messes with your head like nothing else.     Es un gran juego por dónde se vea. Pero no es el juego perfecto de la primera entrega. Hay aspectos que podemos no tocar como jugabilidad, gráficos, soundtrack y escenarios. Son simplemente muy buenos y que tendrán nulos o pocos errores.

    El guión tienen "pequeños" huecos que afectan gravemente a la historia. Son muchas las decisiones que se toman en muy poco tiempo. Fuera de eso la    Es un gran juego por dónde se vea.     En cuanto a publicidad nos venden un juego de venganza, y si la lleva, pero no hay un punto en el que se siente la venganza, es más un camino de redención, para los personajes principales, y para el jugador en general.

    tlou 2 tiene demasiados detalles realistas que me encantan por ejemplo, abby le tiene fobia a las alturas entonces cuando estas en un lugar alto controlandola no solo la camara se empieza a mover sino que la respiracion y las expresiones faciales de ella cambian aa me encanta

    I promise there are no spoilers in this review, but I do touch on a moment without stating what it is. So, if you’re very touchy with spoilers, read someone else’s review, but I am trying to be impartial and give my full thoughts. I really enjoyed this game. So much of it, from the brutal and tactical gameplay, to the hauntingly melancholic score, to the beautiful animation and graphicalI promise there are no spoilers in this review, but I do touch on a moment without stating what it is. So, if you’re very touchy with spoilers, read someone else’s review, but I am trying to be impartial and give my full thoughts. I really enjoyed this game. So much of it, from the brutal and tactical gameplay, to the hauntingly melancholic score, to the beautiful animation and graphical realism many have come to expect from Naughty Dog, work very well together. The new enemy types are exciting, and the old ones are revamped to make for more engaging interaction. In all of these respects, I was blown away and thankful for the work of the developers in crafting this stark and gritty world.
    And that brings me to the hot topic of this game: The Story. I feel I should get this out of the way: Naughty Dog owes you nothing. They did not disrespect you or the characters in this fictional world by making a daring choice in storytelling. In not playing it safe, this game separates itself from many in the medium, and for better or worse, I’m appreciative of their decision.
    Also, hating on this game because of its realistic representation of minorities that frequently go unnoticed in video games (and other mediums) is not a valid reason of disliking this work of art, and you need to think about your priorities if LGBTQIA+ characters in a story cause you to devolve into a state of primitive anger. I will say that I do have issues with this story, the chief one being that I feel this experience is too long. Don’t give me wrong, this game gives you a lot to do and a lot to see, but I feel the game’s central messages would’ve been elevated by cutting out the fluff and encounters that don’t add much to the game other than fodder to kill. A longer game does not equate to a better tale.
    Additionally, I feel that, although the environments in this game were breathtaking at nearly all points, having 15+ hours take place in a location in which everything feels very “same-y” hindered the game, and made it drabber than it needed to be (though this may have been intentional to elicit the tone).
    Furthermore, at some points the story and gameplay clash in a way that’s contradictory to the main theme that’s trying to be brought across. This may be a little spoiler-y, but having a plot about how we demonize the “antagonist” our story falls under its own weight when there’s certain factions that are pretty irredeemably horrible (i.e. using slave labor).
    My final qualm is that, at some (few) points, certain story elements feel very basic, as if the audience would lack the ability to understand nuance so they made certain parallels excruciatingly obvious to see, which I feel was a bit too much (though by seeing the angry and divided fan base, I can see why this may have been the correct decision).
    However, the rest of the story and plot were explored tremendously. Motifs of dehumanization, guilt, PTSD, forgiveness, empathy, and family are powerfully used to tell an emotionally exhausting tale with important themes. The character’s feel truly and utterly human, with real quirks and fears and faults and traumas that make them relatable, even with the apocalyptic backdrop. The stories strengths lie in its ability to develop the central casts’ arcs, and to depict none of them as evil monsters but flawed tragics. You begin to learn about yourself just as the characters are learning about themselves. And by the end, my morals were conflicted, (slight thematic spoiler ahead) but ultimately saddened to see how easy it is to commit atrocities in the name of love. Subplots are beautifully realized and relationships between the people in this world feel intimate are soul-crushingly impactful. Huge story beats, as well as small ones, told both in cutscenes and in in-game moments, further your connection into the characters, story, and world of The Last Of Us as a whole. And goddamn, certain story moments just made me want to bawl my eyes out. By the end, I felt relieved, happy, distraught, and empty all at the same time, which I believe is what Naughty Dog wanted, all in order to convey one essential tenet (of which is not my own words, as I’m quoting “Girlfriend Reviews”; slight thematic spoiler ahead): “There is no difficulty slider in game - or in real life - to forgive someone” (yourself included). I will say I prefer the first title in this series, but I do feel that they compliment each other well (and obligatory message to play the first one before this one). Furthermore, I have a feeling this game may grow on me, as some days I feel that the game is a 6/10 and others a 10/10 (8/10 is me trying to be objective). This is not to say that any real criticism is invalid!
    So in conclusion, I feel that this game that delves into a rich world with a strong (if not slightly muddled) message is worth experiencing if you’re emotionally willing. Examine your biases, and try it with an open mind.    … Expand

Ellie is still one of my favorite characters in gaming and that won't change, love Dina too but she wasn't in it that much to REALLY attach myself to her as much as Ellie. I am pleased with the story of The Last of Us Part II. it's a story that takes you on a roller coaster of emotions and you understand that the main characters (Ellie and Abby) are not good, They are simply the result of a bad decision that could be selfish for anyone who does not have the happiness of being a father. Both have lost a loved one And they launch on a journey of revenge that leaves so much collateral damage.

    In general, you have to think about the whole journey and how an action sets in motion results that will affect you in the future, it happened to Joel, it happened to Ellie and also to Abbie.    … Expand

    Great game. Story is realy complex but Great Story telling. Mentally a rollercoaster. Grafic, music, game mechanics and Level Design is absolutly spot on!

    I played it on hard for a real survival feel.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To start off my review for this game I would like to say I thoroughly enjoyed and loved the first game and played it multiple times.

    The Last of Us Part 2 has been one of those games I have been waiting for since Naughty Dog first announced it. That was when some spoilers got leaked and people started to hate on the game, I was one of the people who didn't actually look at any spoilers and did my best to avoid anything relating to those spoilers.

    Since the game came out the game has had nothing but praise on one side while hate on the other.

    I have just completed the game and my god i really enjoyed the game and liked the characters. I was originally going to give the game a 9/10, but I have had time to think about the game, story the gameplay, the mechanics, the character development, the deaths and most importantly the story.

    The game as a whole is no where near as bad as what people are making it out to be, especially on the story side of it. Originally i really hated Abby but once i started playing as her I began to like and understand why she did what she did.

    People need to remember Joel wasn't a good guy and I really like Joel, but with all the people he killed it was bound to catch up to him at some point.

    By the time i got to the end of the game I was at the edge of my chair simply because the two characters I grew to like in this game were facing off and one minute I was hating Ellie, the next I felt sorry for her.

    That is the point of the story though, it isn't meant to be the same sort of thing that we are used to where we can predict whats going to happen where the writers do their best to please the fans. Naughty Dog did what they wanted to do and told the story they wanted. We as the audience have to play the game and experience what is being told to us. Due to how it is different to other games it seems that people don't like it.

    I do understand that it isn't a game for everyone.

    For me though I personally loved it from start to finish.

    Now onto some the Positives and Negative.

    Positives
    - The game mechanics are some of the best I have seen in gaming
    - The character development is spot on
    - When playing you feel apart of the world
    - It is quite sad in a good way of course which at me in tears at different moments
    - It was tense
    - Had some good scares
    - The skill system as been improved massively compared to the first
    - The graphics OH MY GOD IT IS EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL
    - The story was tense, beautiful, different and emotional.
    - The voice acting and performances are some of the best I have ever seen in gaming

    Negatives
    - Certain very small sections dragged on longer than needed
    - I came across some glitches, which didn't brake the game but did take me out of the moment for a few seconds.
    - small sections also needed more to it.

    OVERALL
    I personally really enjoyed the game, the story and the work Naughty Dog put into this.

    My advice for anyone who is thinking of playing this game is to go into it open minded and to play the game Naughty Dog want you to play/experience.

    If you are unsure on whether you'll like it my advice is to watch some gameplay, wait for it to go down in price or even borrow it from a friend.    … Expand

The Last of Us 2 is really not a bad game, it has deep and emotional moments, colourful characters, a superb way of telling its story, not to speak of the finely tuned gameplay, taking all the good elements from its predecessor in a more vivid and realistic framework.

    But then there is the story itself, and I just have to give my few cents, so here is where the SPOILERS begin. It is easy to see why the story splits the fanbase in two:

    One half clinging to the old characters, they get a story not of loss, but of denial. No matter what you grow to want for the characters you love from the first part, you do not get it. Do you choose revenge? It is denied to you, not once but then once again. Do you instead choose peace and try to move ahead? Again denied and at least far off in the distance once the credits roll, with the few last positive anchor points of the past ripped away from you. So even if you change your mind, it is all the same: you can't have what you want. This game would benefit so much from the possibility of choice in its key moments, but without it, you as a player are forced down this bitter path of denial the storytellers have envisioned for you. From a bright start full of hope, almost every character of the old game ends up as a complete mess in a lonely void. Cannot be denied that this will be a memorable way nevertheless!

    The other half of the fanbase, embracing the new characters and leaving the old ones behind, they experience a totally different story. Then you will get a revenge tale done right with only minor losses that were already becoming less and less impactful. Instead, you will find redemption and new companions on the way as a kickstart for adventures in a shiny future.

    So for everyone expecting to continue the story of the first game, this will be a journey full of emotions, but mostly negative ones. And you only get compensation for it if you manage to swing over to the new characters.

    Can't help it, but if you would apply this kind of denial-story to the first game you would end up with something like this: Joel choosing not to rescue Ellie for the sake of humanity - and then the surgeon not being able to extract the fungal cells and Ellie still dying in the process. Joel then walking off alone. Or, even more frustrating, Joel saving Ellie only to be shot down by Marlene who puts Ellie back to surgery and then the surgeon still fails the operation. Could happen, would be very intense and emotional, but ultimately just denying you any form of fulfilment. Not sure if that's a good story to tell!    … Expand

Lets get the obvious things out the way. Game play is fantastic as well as graphics and level design . Now for the main attraction, the story! I didint like that Joel died. He was my favorite out of everyone. But i just picked up the pieces and wanted to see the rest of the game. I remember Neil the director stated in so many of his interviews that he could have used any two characters for the first game. But i disagree , i believe he under estimated how lucky, and how much joel and ellie was a once in a life time lovable characters that dont come around in games or even movies/TVshows. But knowing all this did not blind me to see what story they were trying to tell. ND gave all us million of fans 10/10 games year after year. They deserve our respect no matter what they do and our FAIR opinion after playing the game. Regardless of the misleading commercials and what ever is going on in their company the truth is that it is non of our business and we will never know the real reason for what goes on in their studio. Ok now back to the game , i loved it but i didint agree with certain aspects they took. But the game is not disrespectful. Ellies portion of the game is spot on great. The flash backs are amazing and to be honest if they were not in the game i would have gave the game bad review and stated that Joel was disrespected but to me that is what saved this game when we are talking about story alone about Joel and ellie. Now when we get to the 2nd half of the game i REALLY REALLY didint wanna play as abby, but i still gave it a shot and i actually saw that they put more work on making her gameplay with more variation. They tried to make her character into a joel figure with lev as somewhat as ellie. To be honest i would not allow the game to let me sympathize with abby. Up until the point that ellie released her from the pillars from the rattlers is when i actually had a glimpse of sympathy ,and actually u know what...i ended up not wanting to kill her no more, but i never wanna play as her again. So ND accomplished what they wanted to say for ME. But if abby is in future games then im not on board bcs joel has a special place in my heart. Now i just want to say i LOVE Laura Bailey and her performance was superb and she is a amazing person. i been following her work ever since she voiced trunks for DBZ. Any ways to sum this up when they got to the point where Ellie and Dina were in the farm i told myself NO the game better not end here there needs to be more and i need to see Joel again. So the game delivered and the last scene in the game gave Joel and Ellie leading up to hashing things out and that was the only scene in the whole game that had me in tears close to how i was in the first game. This is a great game and fans should give it at least one play through. This is all an opinion and i hope people respect it such as i respect theirs.… Expand

Story that happened after Ellie has settled down with Dina it all got ruined for me, don’t really understand the concept. Sacrificing good life for total revenge and giving up at the very end so I felt like Ellie didn’t gain anything at all.
    But it’s still 8/10 from me, it is a solid game with beautiful graphics ( it’s really good considering the ps4 limitation), brutality, crafting system, detailed fighting mechanisms etc. Therefore I don’t regret the purchase at all.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My first playthrough of TLOU2, I would have given this game a 6/10, but just finishing my second playthrough I give the rating above, an 8/10.

    First of all, the graphics, acting, and gameplay is an amazing part of this game. Some points I just stared at the beauty of the graphics that this game offers. It makes it feel so real and jaw-dropping. I hope they remaster this game for the PS5.

    Naughty Dogs displays very strong actions to kill off Joel in the first 2 hours. As a lover of the first game, I was in shock to see the protagonist die like that, but I realized Joel's actions in the first game, had consequences. The next about 10ish hours, we play as Ellie going through Seattle to revenge Joel's death, and when it reaches its climax, we replay the days in Seattle but through Abby, who killed Joel to revenge her father's death by Joel. Mad that we have to play as her, I continued, to see where Naughty Dog is trying to do with this approach. Throughout playing as Abby, they didn't develop the story surrounding Abby and her friends, the WLF, the Scars, etc. The pacing could have been better and maybe that could be a DLC in the future. In the end, Ellie doesn't kill her, spares her life, even though Ellie travels hundreds of miles from Jackson to Santa Barbara which confuses me so much. But in the end, explains a very powerful message that only my second playthrough made me realize.

    Ellie finally tries to move on from this whole revenge thing and takes in what it caused when she wanted her revenge. Dina and JJ are gone somewhere, Jesse died, relationship with Tommy, her mental state and more. Everyone wanted a good ending for Ellie, but to take in all the stuff we have done in the TLOU2, killing hundreds of people, will not bring Joel back. So at least Ellie is ready to move on and leaving everyone behind in the past (Why she left Joel's guitar).

The first however is still better story wise and in Part 2 they take the combat from the first game and update it and make it more realistic, gruesome and better. The reason why this game is not a 10 out of 10 in my opinion is the story, I have no problem with joel dying but the way he goes out just doesn't feel right. Joel is killed way too early in the game and then we have to play as his killer Abby for the second half of the game. I'm not going to lie though by the end I started to like abby and her gameplay is so fun and feels just like a horror movie, it's just that no matter what I'm not going to feel sorry for Abby which the game tries to do to you multiple times. I did enjoy Ellie's part of the game and her choice for vengeance. Overall I still think the last of us part 2 is a great game and dont understand why it is getting so much hate.… Expand

    The zombies. They are perfect. Horrifying and terrifying and so so satisfying to brutalise.

    Cons
    Combat. In many parts of the game you brutally murder everyone in your way. But at the same time the game makes you feel sorry for some of them. If you empathise with those you kill then it's just not as satisfying to brutally stab them in the throat. So while this is realistic I put it as a con because it takes away some of the pureness of the enjoyment I get from combat. But they make up for this by putting heaps of zombies in your way that you can brutally murder and not just feel guilt free but in fact that you are doing them a mercy. Righteous killing us always more enjoyable than killing someone you don't want to kill but must kill in order to survive.

    The story. They do things with the characters I did not like. The story works but it's not what I wanted to happen. In the end it feels worth it. Pro tip when you think the game is finished, the story done, it really isn't. That's just a trick to set up the true ending. Much like red dead redemption did. I wony spoil it but this ending makes the rest of the game feel like it was almost worth it.

    The biggest con of all. You spend 10 or so hours as Abby who is a total piece of **** for most of the game. She has a redemption arc but for most of it she's a hateful **** and I don't like being forced to play as her. It does all become worthwhile. In the end. But still I hated playing as her.

    Something wierd I noticed. So many npcs were gay. Lesbians and homosexual and some transsexuals. If you sneak up on them they have conversations revealing they are LBGT. Then you are usually tasked with wiping them out. I have never killed so many LBGT people in a game before. I must have killed at least a few hundred in this game. I think i killed so many it should be classified as a hate crime.

That season changed her and took away a lot of her innocence and love. The story for Part II isn’t perfect and I didn’t like playing as Abby. Ellie is the same character from Part I she lost her innocence before that game even ended. Joel has had to deal with his lie all this time and Ellie knew it as seen in a flashback from the trailer for a second and in gameplay. Ellie’s worst fear was ending up alone and... it happened. I get the split liking and disliking of this game and this is the very first game review I’ve ever posted on Metacritic but I have to say I enjoyed what I witnessed but it wasn’t perfect, but still a good game and good story just not fantastic. And I’ve played the **** out of Part I I’m not even exaggerating when I say I’ve played Part I 16 times and I played it 2 more times in a span of 2 months before Part II dropped. I was ready and had huge refreshes on the story. I also stayed away from the leaks but I did know how Joel died just not when and how fast he did. Naughty dog delivers top notch details as always in the graphics, level design, mocap, animations, gameplay, variation and sound(music and voice acting) etc. Story is very controversial, had some issues for me that i didn't like as much but overall very memorable and interesting.     The game's story is good, not worse than the first part. I liked it, I liked the end very much, it was not usual. I had no problem with the slow pace, but I have a problem with the order of the chapters, for me this game would have been great if it had a different order for the chapters, it would have given me more feelings if the order was different. I mean; instead of playing with Ellie then playing with Abby it would have been better to play a chapter by Ellie then a chapter by Abby, it would have a bigger impact on the player. The other thing that I have a problem with is that there were too many flashbacks in the game. I don't say we remove them, some of them were good and important, but I think it would have been better to give them to the player at the start of the game, especially "The Park" chapter would have been great at the beginning of the game. So the story is good except for two things, 1. The Chapter Order. 2. Too Many Flashbacks.
    ---- Game-play:
    The game-play was the main reason that I had no problem with the slow pace. The game-play is so enjoyable, with the accessibility options, guns, and animations. New things like: going prone, the dogs as enemies, the difference between the human enemies, and the boss fight. The game-play is excellent.
    ---- Game Direction & Art Direction:
    The game direction in the cut-scenes was very good, I liked it. The Art Direction was also very good, the designs of everything were excellent.
    ---- Graphics & Sound:
    The graphics and graphical details in the game were great, this is one of the Generation's best games in terms of graphics with God of War and Red Dead Redemption II. And this is the best one in terms of graphical details. In terms of sound, the sound design was also great, the whistles and everything, and of course the soundtrack is great, I am still listening to it after finishing the game.

    I just finished TLoU II last night. I wanted to play through the whole game before leaving an impression here. If there were .5 options then I'd call this an 8.5 but opted to give an 8 instead.

    I put in about 28-29 hours to complete the game and didn't find every extra goodie available. While bigger is sometimes better, in this case some sections felt too long. I wanted to find out the next story beat and getting there never feels like a straight shot, or some unexpected wall pops up that adds 30 minutes to the section (a classic Naughty Dog trope at this point). TLoU II isn't the first Naughty Dog game that is guilty of this. Uncharted 2 and 3 had some sections that could have been shorter as well.

    As for stealth mechanics, maybe I'm really bad at playing stealthy in this game. I felt like I was being pretty careful to not be seen or heard but most of the non-infected enemies seem to be able to spot and hear me pretty easily. There are many sections of the game that were designed with hiding places (under trucks or beds, in storage containers, in tall grass) so it seems like there was an intention to be able to play in such a way to be unnoticed and sneak up on enemies but that rarely ever worked for me. I was in open combat more often than not.

    The last criticism I had is that when I spent time searching the larger areas looking for hidden extra goodies the game would prompt me to click L3 if I need a hint. I don't need a hint, I'm just trying to find the hidden things. For all the extra work Naughty Dog put into making extra notes, cards, coins, etc. the game equally pushes me to stop looking for those and move forward.

    As for the violence, it is a bit over the top but it wasn't off putting for me as a player. I would say if someone else was watching me play they'd probably think I'm a sadist but I swear I'm not :D

    Everything else about the game I enjoyed. The combat is tight (even when I didn't want to rush into combat), the technical aspects of visual and audio presentation are fantastic, and I thought the story was good (albeit a bit too long). There are some flashbacks within flashbacks which does feel a bit strange but that feeds into my "game is too long" perspective. Could they have done it any other way? Probably, but I'm not a narrative or game designer so they did it better than I could.    … Expand

Different to many people I enjoyed the second part a lot more than the first. There was no story ballast left from before. The second characters story - though as transparent as the first ones - had a lot of growth that was coming to her for a long time and was catalysed by the companion characters.

    The ending isn't great either. The final fight destroys a lot of what was narratively built up and then changes the gear back almost immediately as to make the whole struggle between the characters even more annoying and futile. There is nothing in the fight that should trigger the reaction it does, that shouldn't have been triggered before. Even both characters just silently parting ways would have been more impactful.

    tl;dr: With less obvious writing and a tighter pacing this game could have been exceptional. Now it's still pretty good though.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. At first I was trying to not get on the hate bandwagon for the game, and at a point in my playthrough I’d have given it a higher score. But after finishing the game, a few things could’ve been done better. Namely, how Abby’s group got ahold of Joel, and the structure of the game. I think they could’ve made him getting captured much more believable, even if it’s just snippets throughout the games flashbacks showing how he’s gotten kinder to strangers, and is quicker to trust them after being sheltered in a community for four years. He was essentially living the high life (or at least the kind you could live in a post-apocalyptic world), and they could’ve highlighted that in certain scenes of the game a lot better.

    The other thing would be to structure the game better, and to make it so you aren’t just hopping around a three day time period and then going in to a flashback during the flashback when you play as Abby. Aside from those major gripes, the games actually very good, story and gameplay-wise, and I don’t know what people are so irrationally angry about.    … Expand

Play the game and find out which one are you. It does have some writing issues, but it's still enjoyable and great nonetheless

The storyline is gripping and powerful as you go through the walks of life of both Ellie and Abby. You get a sense of great story telling here, understanding the story from different point of views. I got very invested into the story to say the least. Character development are very well done here leaving no ambiguity or questions unanswered. It is an experience not to be missed if you've played the first game! There's a lot of unnecessary comments where a load of people are just jumping on the band wagon for the sake of it.

    Yes Joel dies but this is fine as Ellie carries the torch now and it's a really good shock factor too! Yes the ending has divided fans too but Ellie reflects on her decision at the end which gives her some humanity back from the teachings of Joel.

    The only not so good thing on this game was it can feel repetitive sometimes sneaking around, killing infected, running into human survivors and more sneaking around.    … Expand

    There are a few things about this game that are just facts...

    The game looks absolutely gorgeous, one of the best looking games I've ever seen. Gameplay, even though it's not too different from the first one, it feels a lot more fluid and fun. The new kinds of enemies (both infected and non-infected) force you to keep moving and thinking about the best attack tactics at the same time. The infected feel and look even more terrifying than in the first one and the introduction of the new kinds was wonderfully done.

    Now, the thing that has been dividing the fandom is obviously the story alone. If I'm gonna be honest, when comparing this game to the original, I can't say it's better, because it isn't. The first one being one of the best story driven games I've ever played and this one being a great game but not the best ever. However, it isn't nowhere near as bad as some people like to say it is. The writers made some very bold decisions as to where the story goes and many didn't like that. My advice: try to keep an open mind during the entire game. This is, from the very beginning to the very end. Here's an important warning: the story may and probably will not go the way you want it to. No, the story is not badly written but it is bold. Expect to be shocked and even angry with characters' decisions and actions. That's the objective the writers of the game had when making it so you're expected to feel that way.

    Now to address another thing people can't shut up about. Are the characters unlikable? No, but I'd say they're not as memorable as the ones we met in the first game. Some characters you will not like until the end of the game and that's fine. The game doesn't want you to like them. It wants you to understand them and as long as you can do that, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

    This game is psychologically challenging and constantly tries to make you think about the consequences of revenge, the paths to redemption, the definition of right and wrong and your ability to say when enough is enough.

No questions how much we loved joel in the first part but great things eventually comes to an end this is not a superhero story and joel is not immortal this is a post-apocalyptic world which is cruel and survival is the only key. He was gonna die we saw that coming but the regret is we didnt get enough play time with joel's character to play as our favourite character for the last time. i didnt mind playing abby after she killed joel because it was a different experince and i was able to see the other side of the coin as abby's perspective after experiencing how her fathers death affected her and how this obsession of killing joel made an impact on her love life and she ended up being a brutal killer i understand her pain KINDA but i still hate her for killing joel so brutally this is all about a humans nature on an apocalyptic world. Now here are the thing i just didnt fully enjoy the third act that just happened out of nowhere but any how now we are playing as elllie so its not too bad also so now after seeing abby in such a harsh way i personally thought that ellie has taken enough from her and she suffered alot and killing her wasnt looking so ideal.
    All in all this was supposed to be a dark story and it is a really dark story it shows how vengeance can take everything from you and can effect people around you.
    But as a fan of joel i would have given this game a nine if NAUGHTY DOG had have given me an option to kill abby or leave her free.(then i would have her RIP JOEL)
    And i could have given it a ten if they had trim down some part of abby( I felt that ellie is being over shadowed by abby and this suppose to be ellie based story) and the third act didnt happened this way( It kinda feels weird and seemed happened out of nowhere)    … Expand

Many People have dudge the game for the matter of Joel’s death at the dtart of the game, we saw that coming since tge Trailer reveal from 2016. It was more than obvious Joel was the one who was to die in Part II. We played as the both victims and there was actually never an Antagonist between them two. We played as Abby for the purpose to know why the actions she committed against Joel and it was because he killed Abby’s dad, who resulted to be the main doctor for Ellie’s surgery. She had the same option as Ellie had. Abby’s arc was good, but having to use her to fight Ellie’s was a let down specially when we know Ellie is the main protagonist and the one we should have been controlled. The graphics were absolutely fantastic, the cast, the game scenarios, the story was good, but it wasn’t great. My rating for the game is an 8/10.… Expand

    Game shows the chain of revenge. when ı played abby for the first time, game was certainly finish by my side and I was begging to end the game but after that ı realised the game actually showed me both sides of the blade no matter how much I take ellie's side and hate abby, the game realize us what situations they are in and how environment effect them. You can see how these two warrior women fight to death for justified reasons.

    it is not liked by most people but I think it is a nice and worthy game in general, There is a problem about some characters rub in and game fiction way controversial, but this does not mean that this game is bad, I can say that it is the most succesfull and high quality game that came out in 2020 right now.

    This game is a **** technical masterpiece. This game is not a 0 and its not a 10 by any means. The story is not what we wanted and thats fine. The story is very bold and they had a lot of commitment when making this game. Some parts did not make sense but the gameplay is so damn satisfying. I mostly loved the story and the ending was amazing.

    Although the story telling is impeccable, the problem of the story is how every action led to the worst possible outcome for all parties involved. I would prefer a story of love over a story of hatred, despite that hateful desire for revenge was originated from love.

    I do have a few things to mention about the story. I honestly really enjoyed this method of story-telling, playing as both Ellie and Abby and experiencing their memories and dreams/nightmares. Unlike a lot of people on here, I feel like I was able to completely sympathize with Abby. Like come on, I loved Joel after the first game, but he really did make a stupidly selfish move taking Ellie and killing all those Fireflies. I will say the cycle of violence in this game was not super satisfying to play through. And I wouldn’t say I feel satisfied at all with the ending. I think I would have really enjoyed seeing a sequel where Ellie works to reclaim the decision to give her life for a vaccine with Joel by her side, searching for another doctor/group of doctors that could engineer the cure. But that doesn’t mean I am disappointed with their decision to have Joel killed. I enjoyed playing as Abby and getting the chance to sympathize with both sides but in the end it just felt like a lot of the things I did as both characters were completely pointless in relation to how things ended. And I get that that may have been the point, but if this is really going to be the last of The Last of Us, I would really have preferred to leave the franchise satisfied.

    Nevertheless, I don’t feel like it’s fair of me to hate on the writers and the studio for putting out this game. Yes I did wait 7 years, and yes I wasn’t completely satisfied, but I don’t think that gives me the entitlement to be a pos on social media to the people that worked their asses off to get this game through. Most of the people running their mouths have no idea what it’s like to work behind the scenes on these games, me included, so that is why I choose to be a decent person and make the best of what I’ve been given. So thanks ND for another great experience overall!

    Also, for all the bigots on here hating cause of the game being “too political” by having gay and trans main characters, kindly **** off. Maybe you should have waited until you were mature enough to handle real characters before playing the game. Otherwise don’t fund the studio producing inclusive content you can’t bear to tolerate and don’t ****ing play the game.     A good continuation to the masterpiece that is Last of us. Graphics, animations, map design and sound is superb, best in any game out there right now. Story is okay but the pacing is unfortunately a bit iffy. Which drags down the score to an 8.

    It's sad how there are so many fake reviews on here. There comes a point where a game is objectively above a certain score

I will start with the gameplay first.The gameplay is the same as in the previous game but with little new things(for example new skill trees or new upgrades for the weapons which can be seen).I really like that they added more exploring to the game because is making much longer and interesting. I appreciate that the weapons are not exactly the same one for the both characters. The listening mode is still weird but sometimes it can help you a lot. The graphics are one of the best ones I’ve ever seen. The sound is so good, it make you know when the battle start and when it ends, it can make you feel like you want to hear it more when you hear characters chatting, and even the gunshots hear awesome, and is also a important part when you try to play stealth because you can hear a weird sound when someone is seeing you.
    Now about the story: I must say that I almost cried when Joel died and I understand why the did that, but the reason I still don’t like his death is how they killed him.It could be more heroic, like saving Ellie from a gunshot or something like that.In the beginning I hated Abby (even after the end) but after some time I realised that she’s not a bad person as most of the people thinks. Her appearance is still making me fell weird but after some thinking I understood why she look so muscular(is because she lives in a camp which is like a military base and also she wanted to make sure that she is strong enough to kill Joel no matter what or how). Ellie in my opinion haven’t changed much from the previous game. The only difference from the previous game is that she can swim, make her own decisions much cleaver and better(at leat at the end) and other little stuffs. I still don’t understand why some people have problems with LGBT of this game, or the ‘transgender’ girl, I mean how can that change the game so much, if you want you can always skip the parts where you can see these things. The ending lacks a little but it is OK.I mean it wasn’t necessary to make Ellie lose her fingers.
    I encourage people to buy this game, but at an offer(just if you want).If you don’t have a problem with Joel’s death,LGBT,transgender,Abby arms I believe this will be one of your favourite games.    … Expand

    If the game was not a sequel to a game with one of the best stories in gaming then it would have been recieved much differently. But it is so we need to keep that in mind. The gameplay is really good i enjoyed every encounter and it was a blast to play through. But what people wanted out of the game they didnt get. They wanted a story near the same level as the first's. And this just didnt cut. The stories main push was when joel lost at a golf game to Abby. And you are meant to hate her. Which worked too well in the beginning. When you have to play half the game as someone who killed everyone's favorite character it will be hard to get them on your good side. I myself ended up liking Abby more as a person, because Ellie has no redeeming values. Ellie kills everyone and has no mercy. Even when Abby lets her live 2 times, she wants to kill Abby. And even when someone gets her what she wants she kills them. When playing as Abby you meet Lev and Yara. Abby is in a war with their people and even with that she feels bad enough to want to save them. Ellie is too caught up on revenge i just cant get myself to feel bad for her anymore. Joel is still my guy though. And i assure you if we didnt play as joel and ellie in the first game alot more people would agree with me. And the whole game was for nothing. Ellie never kills abby and just loses everything for nothing. Which gives us, the player who played as Ellie no teal payoff. This game isnt perfect. But people are giving way too much hate. I liked moust of the carecters excepte Abby even if I played the game 3 times I still dont understand why you had to play with her for over 10 houers. They tried to make like a Joel and Ellie story with her and Lev but bouth caracters didn't had any social skils and it wasn't as clouse of being a story like the first game. The only caracter that i liked in her side of the story was Manny. And also iI didn't like that they killed Joel in the first houer eaven thou he still apears in the game. As well as me having to play as the character who killed him and the story not fully continuing where the first one left off. However, after actually playing it I enjoyed even though it was pulling me around making me mad at some times. Yet, the story was unique, different and I liked it and I was able to actually start to like Abby as time went on. I understand why other people are getting upset about having to get use to new characters. While saying that there are some faults such as some characters do not have good enough character development but that can be over looked. I also feel like the continuity from the first game is a little off but thats fine if you are able to successfully create a new storyline with a theme.     Pros (+)

    - Amazing Graphics : I can undoubtedly say that this game is the best looking PlayStation 4 game so far.

    - Solid Gameplay: The gameplay has been significantly expanded on with new mechanics , weapons, and tools at your disposal - Highly Polished Game : I didn’t encounter any bugs or glitches in the 25+ hours of playing the game. The game also ran at a steady 30 FPS with no noticeable frame drops.

    - New unique Factions with their own story, beliefs , ideas , and personal struggles - The game feels more open and less linear compared to the first game with more sandbox like environments in the world.

    - The Environmental story telling in this game is the best so far in the entire industry. Every building , house , and room feel lived in and has a story to tell.

    - Gustavo Santaolalla does a wonderful job as the game’s soundtrack composer. The soundtrack this time around can be considered at the same level , if not better than the first game. - The writers take a massive risk with their bold attempt at exploring very dark and vengeful themes. I personally think that the overall theme of the game helped to distinguish TLOU2 from the first game. —————————————————————

    Cons (-) - The pacing of the story felt unorganised and in some cases annoying. It’s very clear that some parts of the story felt very unreasonable and unnatural compared to the first game. - Too many new characters were Introduced (10 new characters or more) and unfortunately some of them were either un-memorable or weren’t given enough screen time. It’s also clear that some characters didn’t get the character development that they deserved. This is expected when you introduce too many new characters that lack proper character development due to time constraints.

    - The game felt too long , I think the game could’ve been fine if it was as long as the first one instead of stretching the game into the 20-30 hours territory. ————————————————————-

    Verdict: 8/10 I personally believe that this game would’ve gotten a 9 or 10 if the storytelling was re-arranged in a more chronological manner similar to the the first game. I also believe that game’s overall experience could’ve been significantly enhanced if some characters were better written and had a longer screen time.

    This game , as the media describes it , is a “Flawed Masterpiece” and I think this term appropriately describes what TLOU2 really is.

    I personally think you should play this game , even if you don’t agree with its themes and narrative, it’s still worth your time.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is something that nobody has ever created yet. That was the first game that gave me so many emotions, both positive and negative. In a case of the gameplay, music, visuals, level design, or environment it's a certain 10/10 from me. However, things are turning complicated in the story aspect. They went beyond the template while writing this game. ND wanted to show how cruel the world in which our protagonists had to live is. In this world, there are no good or bad people, they're just people who try to survive at all costs. Another thing is the ending which in my opinion makes sense because they wanted to show that revenge is a fool's game, and you can lose everything that you have during the way of getting it. This game isn't satisfying but it wasn't supposed to be. The only thing that is bad about this game is the careless storytelling. They've tried to show this story from two different sides, but as a result, they wasted about 10 hours of gameplay. Pointless chapters that were supposed to change our point of view but in fact, they have turned the protagonist into an antagonist and conversely. Neil just simply shouldn't have done that. If the story was supposed to be about Ellie and Joel, then why would you add character such as Abby and turn her into the main character. But the fact is if the game isn't fan service, (as we used to know in many video games) it doesn't mean that the game is bad. People are usually afraid of the unknown and sometimes the unknown isn't as happy as we expected. Some people said that people are not ready for this game. Now I totally understand what they meant. My final rate is 8/10 because I think this game is one of the most important games of the generation and you should play it on your own no matter what you've heard.… Expand

    One of the most emotionally raw experiences I've had playing a video game. Hopefully in time, it gets the appreciation it deserves.

    az a probléma, hogy sokan hamis elvárásokkal ülnek a játék elé, és a leakek miatt nem is akarják felfogni a játék valódé értékét és mondandóját.
    egyébként egy nagyon jó játék. nyilván klisés, de lényeg inkább a megoldás, mint az aktuális történet

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
