The graphics are excellent and in particular the animation brings the characters to life, with great performances across the board that really allow you to be invested in the characters.

Gameplay has been improved significantly over the first game, with jumping and going prone being added which, even though they seem small, make the game feel so much better. Enemies are incredibly lifelike and fighting humans is really fun, although there are some annoying sections that feel like filler with random infected, there are some key moments with the infected that are well executed and they are some of the most memorable encounters. Scrambling around for parts is also a pain, and takes you out of the flow of the game frequently.

The worst part of the game for me was the pacing and the story jumping around. You will play as multiple characters and the transition between them is jarring and not very satisfying. I kept trying to plow through certain content just to get back to the characters I was invested in. Some of the back and forts are outright frustrating.

As for the story, there are some legitimate complaints here. I found some characters to be unlikable and some arcs to be a bit out of place in the universe, but overall its nothing too jarring and I think the story ends up being a pretty satisfying ride that reaches very high highs at times.

But to say one thing about the story, i *did* like the ending and was almost yelling at my screen 'please stop!'. I think the game is too long. There is a part where i litteraly put down my controller beause i expected the credits to start rolling, but then they didn't. That annoyed me, and i rushed through the last parts.
I liked that the game -which is made by a developer who does this in other games- never gets into Hollywood action style territory, but is always holding back from that. I played the game on Hard, which was a decent balance, except for one or two occasions being completely out of ammo, while at a few others feeling a little overpowered.

This is a beautiful game period. Design and attention to detail was flawless, the fight sequences were great as well. I love TLOU so I can’t hate too much, but it is a flawed game. What made me give it less than a ten is the Abby part, way too long. Somethings in the plot I wish were different. I love the inclusion of the LGBTQ and the transgender communities into the game as well.

Beautiful game which unfortunately suffers from some severe pacing issues particularly in the second half. Would have liked the two halves to be more connected and filler to be significantly cut down. Ultimately the ending ties everything together well, but im not sure how I feel about the more thematic approach of 2 vs the character based story of 1.

I cann't remember the game, which I played without rest 15 hours. I really liked this story and graphics in this game. I met a few gameplay bugs and too strange AI which can see through the walls. I loved oldschool style of game without any help and markers on screen. This game not leading player like a mother teaching her little baby walk and this is very cool. I don't like LGBT, but Ellie and Dina were not annoying with this like I thought before. Abby - which was hated by players is second protagonist of game had a good motivation for doing what she is done. I lked her story even more than Ellie's part. I'm glad, that story was completely ended without something like TO BE CONTINUED, but I'm left excited what happened to Abby. I hope Naughty Dog will make more cool games with a good stories like The Last of Us 2 on next generation of PlayStation. Playing as Abby sometimes I thought, that I'm playing for Chris Redfield's girlfriend from Resident Evil, specially Boss Fight with Rat King. Thanks to Naughty Dog for bringing my memories from younger age, when games were not so casual as not. Expand

TLOU2 is an incredible sequel. It doesn’t have the magic that you experience playing TLOU1 for the first time, but it makes up for that with a fantastic story. The characters are complicated and diverse, and by the end of the game you will feel broken hearted and frustrated. That’s how you know it’s a great story.

Pacing was a little off but the story was great, Abby really didn't grow on me as much as the narrative intended her to but her set pieces did a fair job of humanizing her. Some decisions like lev suddenly leaving to get his mom or Jesse suddenly dying without being mourned felt a little off but the story maintained to be interesting enough to continue playing. Gameplay was on point, the mechanics from the previous game were improved upon greatly here. Seeing Ellie's growth or really her "downfall" was the biggest plus point for me, I really enjoyed playing as her and feeling what she was feeling and seeing how her sanity is tested throughout her story really showed something that other games haven't come close to displaying. The storyline broke my heart and I absolutely loved it. Not every single story is gonna work out the way you want it to. The story revolved around the themes of revenge cycles and forgiveness and I believe the writers did a good job. I am so sick of people claiming that a storyline is bad just because a beloved character dies. The ending made sense, it just didn’t go the way some people expected it to, thus the bad reviews. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked the first game more than this one, but I still think it is a great game.

TL;DR: The game gives people a lot of reasons to hate it, but I think if you can push through the feelings some of the game events and features may spark at first, you'll end up enjoying it a lot.

Where most people hated the story, I felt the game did a good job at making me keep going. Whereas some of the characters' actions are not rational at times, they are certainly human. And I think this is what the game excels at, making the characters feel human.

I think "The Death" was a good fit to the story to remind the player of how brutal and unforgiving the Last of Us world is. Once again touching on the subject of humanity, even though gameplay may depict them as superhuman killing machines with infalible instincts, the characters are as mortal and prone to error as any other human being.

Other complaints talk about the game trying to make us see Ellie as the villain, but I never really saw it that way. Sure, she murders a lot of people, but you can clearly see her actions taking a toll on her, even though her desire for revenge keeps her moving forward. By the end of the game, you possibly do not condone of her actions, but it is easy to understand what drives them if you step out of your own shoes and into hers. You want her to be smarter and more rational, but you really can't expect her to be, given all she's been through.

Now, as for the game trying to make you see the villain as a not-so-evil person by making you play as her, I don't think that happened for me either, I found it impossible to sympathize with her, but that didn't make the game or the story less enjoyable for me. In fact, I found her gameplay so engaging, I found myself not caring who I was playing as for most of her storyline. If you are able to ignore your initial disgust from playing as the villain, you can see that this part of the game has incredible level design with a lot of good encounters (including a high-adrenaline boss fight). And even if the game does try to reduce your hatred for this character, you can choose to not do that and simply see this part of the game as the story told from the POV of the villain.

The game does drag on for a little long and at the end you find yourself feeling a bit like the characters, tired and wanting to stop, but with the need to see everything through. Which is why I appreciate the developers keeping the (in my opinion much needed) final chapter somewhat short.

Finally, as for the game pushing for a "political agenda" (not that there is anything wrong with that, in my opinion), I tend to disagree. Ellie is a lesbian (which we already knew from the DLC to the first game) and there is a transgender character. That's about it. I personally don't think it is forced or that it affects the game quality in the slightest.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First, the a quick rundown about the game itself, story comes later...
The graphics of the game are breathtaking, the amount of detail and the atmosphere are top notch. The cut-scences of the game have a nearly cinematic feel and the voice acting, motion capture are the highest quality in video games. So, on a technical level, this game is a perfect 10/10.

The problem for me is the gameplay. Don't get me wrong, the stealth gameplay/gunplay are very well done and it makes a lot of fun to outsmart your opponents, at least the human ones. I can't stand the infected encounters though, the AI is pretty dumb at points and everytime I heard the sound of a clicker, I frowned (I have a deep hatred for stalkers too cause they make so much more difficult to stealth your way through the encounter and are just a huge pain overall). But this wouldn't be a problem if the game wouldn't stay out of its welcome in 25-30 hours of playtime. For such a long game, the gameplay is much to repetitive, especially in the later part of the game. The developers should have cut out about a third of the game or make the gameplay more versatile towards the end to make this a game a more balanced and overall interesting expericence. During the last 10 hours, I just tried to avoid a lot of encounters as I was bored and annoyed about the procedure (slowly killing most enemies - get caught and the gun your way through the remaining - proceed to the next encounter). I know that this part is pretty subjective, after a played about half of the game, I just wanted to know how the story ends and just rushed most encounters. For their seven year of development, the gameplay is basically the same as in the first game. Gameplay 6/10

    So, now the story...

Overall, I really like the story of Part II. It tells a very interesting story about traumatized characters, tribalism and the consequences of revenge. I also like the change of perspective and really enjoyed Abby part of the story, although here part of the story was a bit to bloated (compare that to my problems with the gameplay above, this is the part that should have been cut shorter in my opinion). It was very interesting to see Abbie who already had her revenge and knows that it does not help coping the trauma that caused the killing spree in the first is put into perspective with the main character Ellie who is still consumed by hatred destroying hear own life on the way to revenge as Abbie did before. Abbie is Ellie if she would have killed Abbie, still dealing with most of her problems.
I also never rooted with Ellie through the whole game. She acted like total psychopath and killed a lot of innocent people (hundreds of wolves and seraphites) who had nothing to do with Abbie’s revenge plot in the first place. Like Neil Druckmann said years ago, the story is not meant to be fun and I think many people miss the points the developers want to make with the story. Many people dismiss the game because they don’t like the story subjectively and try their hardest to explain why the game is objectively bad and no one should be able to like the story bloating off every single thing that is off with the plot (and to be fair, the plot has heavy pacing issues and is contrived at some points). It was a very bold move to kill such a beloved character and the developer could easily made a ‘Joel and Abbi Buddy stories’ and everybody would have been happy. But they were bold enough to provoke lots of controversy they were clearly aware of that (Neil Druckman said once that not everyone would like the game).
But still, the story is definitely too long (especially Abbie’s part and the epilogue of the doesn’t need to drag on for several hours although I like the overall idea of Ellie going after Abbie again and leaving her happy life behind). Story 9/10, very interesting and thought-provoking story about which we will still talk in year. And with that, the developers made a much better contribution to the gaming world than “The Last of Us Part II: Ellie and Joel Road Trip Part II”

Overall, I would give the game 8/10. Fantastic Graphic and presentation, gameplay from 2013 and a bold but too long controversial story with minor pacing problems and plot holes.

The big problem about the controversy is the same with the The last Jedi (which I quite like by the way): Do writers want to tell a story they want to tell or do they want to tell a story the fans want? Or otherwise: who owns the story or the characters? The writers or the fans?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is good in my opinion since it handles different mechanics and varied game modes, in relation to the story it seems to me that Joel's death was a justified reason, soon after in the story they show us the climax that is when Abby reaches the theater where Ellie hides and shoots Jesse, it seems to me that they did it wrong, since we started with the story of Abby, the emotion of the moment was taken from us, not like the last of us 1 who in his climax kept us with that constant emotion.
but the rest of the story is good and has a justified ending that left more than one shocked.
I end this by saying that this game from the beginning said it would be dark, and this was reflected from start to finish.

This is my first time constructing a review for any piece of media, so I hope that this will be helpful. I always say that you should experience something for yourself in order to cast judgement, and this game is a perfect example. I think that this game has so much love and dedication behind it and you can really see that when you enter this new world. It’s dark, it’s gritty, and absolutely beautiful at the same time. I love that it’s based in Seattle as it provides a haunting atmosphere that makes you wary of your surroundings while providing beautiful scenery at every which way. The combat in this game is very rewarding since you can choose between a stealthier gameplay or a more action packed gun-ho experience (provided that you have found enough ammo of course). The human A.I (in my experience ) is more difficult to stealthily attack but the runners, clickers and bloaters are susceptible to alerting other enemies in their proximity, which may incentivize the player to use more strategic tactics. In this game it is very rewarding to utilize all of the options that the game offers. There’s no correct way to play a scene since you can encounter it a bunch of different ways by utilizing your surroundings and different weapons. For me this is what made the game so much more difficult and enjoyable at the same time. The story is very unique in the way that it’s presented. You will have catastrophic events that happen to a character, and you may feel anger, guilt, sadness whatever you experience. Then you will be motivated to take revenge. You will feel the same visceral hatred that other characters feel. However, the controversial part (which I enjoyed quite frankly) is that you will be challenged in this regard. It’s difficult to create a game that makes you feel sympathetic to a “bad” character that will appease everybody. In my experience though I had these really volatile feelings but then I started to feel slightly conflicted because I saw parallels between the protagonists and antagonists. I enjoy that the developers created a story where the villain isn’t one-dimensional, and that you can relate to them even if it’s just slightly. By the end of the game, I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted, and when it came down to it I didn’t want to continue this journey that started off with this feeling of pure disgust and hatred. It didn’t seem right, morally speaking. This was definitely the most controversial part of the game of course because some people hated it and some people loved it. Of course this is where I reiterate that you should experience it yourself before casting judgement. Your unbiased opinion is much more valuable to developers than simply parroting what other people are saying. Of course I enjoyed this game, it was fantastic and I love the work that was put into it. There’s some parts of the game that could be improved. Some of the AI for the clickers were not consistent in certain areas as I could be moving slowly towards them and somehow they would detect me instantly. Meanwhile in another area I would do the same thing and take out a whole bunch without being spotted. This may be user error though. I only had trouble a couple of times trying to find my way through the map, but luckily I could use the L3 “hint” button to indicate where I was supposed to go. If you need additional help finding where you need to go then there’s additional options in the menu. Lastly, I just wanted to say that I loved the chemistry between Ellie and Joel in the first game, but that’s not what you will get here. This is a completely different story. It deals with the connection between the two characters, but not in the same way. I find that apocalyptic games that deal with a father-like figure and a child are very heartwarming as the relationship poses a contrast between the barbaric, cruel world to the endearing connection of the two characters. If you played TellTale’s TWD, you see this as well between Lee and Clementine. But this is not one of those games. It’s about love but it’s also about seeking revenge and how far someone is willing to go. How much you’re willing to sacrifice. I find that the music really tells the whole story really. I won’t go into specifics, but you will hear a song throughout the game that illustrates what I said previously in the last paragraph. This is a dark story that deals with a bunch of characters that have the same goal. It’s not black and white. For me, it obviously worked. I like the way the story went, I enjoyed the way it was presented, and I want to see more. I can see the story going in many directions, and although Neil Druckman hasn’t officially stated whether or not there will be a third installment, I would love to see what happens to all of the characters.
Overall, I highly recommend this game. :)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've played this game for 3 days and I say this game is a masterpiece, but not the best like TLOU 1. A lot's of people gave this game 1 or 3 stars because they don't understand the teaching of this game. They cried because Joel is dead and the story is bad and **** andd bla bla bla. But I think, this game include more than a story, this game include psychological problems of both side (Ellie and Abby). Yes sometimes there's no story ( that's why -1), but a story without teaching conclusions isn't a true story. The Developers try to integrate this in the game but they failed (sometimes not like memory between Joel and Ellie)...
The end of the story makes/lets me very mixed and ambiguous. Sometimes I wish Ellie should die but sometimes I wish Abby should die (Abby vs Ellie). That's why TLOU 2 leaves me with a very beautiful, sad and impressive ending In comparison to the first one TLOU 2 has a better fighting system and beautiful graphics. The game teaches me: People, who loves us but you hate them, but if they die, we will miss them nf they will miss us.
Sanity is the opposite of madness

Even though i have never heard of this franchise until i saw youtubers playing and all the divisive reviews, after watching youtubers play i actually loved it. It feels like the best game of 2020 so far, maybe until PES or FIFA comes out. But actually i felt this sequel does not live up to the title. I actually disliked the story which centred around revenge. I actually loved Abby instead of Ellie at the end as i completely disagreed with her actions to avenge Joel's death. I felt if i was her, i would actually confront Abby without all this carnage and talk it out. Expand

Expand

Heres the point: The story needs to work for you. It doesnt matter if naughty dog kills your favorite character or if you think that the characters act out of role because its all about empathy. You need to get over the fact that these characters are loved or not and accept that they are characters with a story and own emotions. This story is all about self-hate, revenge and forgiveness. Joels death is the necessary plotpoint the story needs to start driving. First the game wants you to feel the rage and the urge to kill every single one of the people involved in Joels death. Then the game wants you to play Abby, which many people struggle with. But in the end of the day the story workd for me, because playing abby made me not wanting to kill her anymore. Not because i started to like her, but because i understand her POV and her motives. Imma be honest and I hate to say this but: Joel deserved death. He betrayed humanity and killed a loving father. For Abby its te most natural reaction to want Joels death. At the end of Abbys part you beg her not to kill dina and ellie and thats what you get because she forgives ellie. And when you play ellie after that scene you dont want to play ellie because you stop wishing for her death. You stop wanting revenge because you feel the suffering from it. If the game gets you to feel this like it made me feel it it worked for you. And if it works for you this rollercoaster of emotions becomes a masterpiece.
8/10 bcs Gameplay became redundant. But the story works perfectly fine.
Ps: The last scene got me hard and if a Story gets you to feel this sorrow it is perfect.

The Last of Us: Part II

There were some things I had issues with, like the pacing/time jumps of the game - it kind of draws you out of the experience a little bit. However the other aspects of the game mean that it is still really enjoyable to play. The gameplay is fantastic, hand to hand combat animations are really fun and make the combat side of gameplay really rewarding. For others, the looting system felt repetitive, but because of the varied environments (which are all really beautiful, brilliant graphics, lighting, atmosphere) I didn’t feel the same. One other thing I felt enhanced the game was the weapon upgrade system/animations. It added to the realism of the world and also was nice to see physical changes and upgrades to the weapons. Gameplay flows nicely, and is not clunky or awkward, which means you can play for longer without getting frustrated or bored. In terms of the story, I can appreciate why many people don’t feel satisfied with the game. Some decisions the writers made, I felt could have been polished. Playing as Abby for half the game at first was frustrating, but after seeing the developments to abbys character it became more bearable. I also enjoyed the difference in her fighting animations, as she is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than Ellie. If the story feels confusing or pointless, I really recommend watching Nathan zed’s thoughts on the game on YouTube. It gave me a new perspective :) Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a masterpiece. I don't understand such a low user rating. It's really a top notch triple A game. Outstanding graphics and controls. Seemless transitions from gameplay to cutscenes, great cinematics and gameplay. It's a nice long beefy story. When you're really enjoying a game, you don't want it to end. This game satisfies in that regard. We take things for granted at times as far as gameplay, controls, transitions, etc. I'm now playing Ghost of Tsushima which is a fun game but TLOU2 is just a more polished experience. I think some folks are just never satisfied. I like Ghost of Tsushima but I have no idea how it could be rated higher than this game. It's one of the best ever made in my opinion. Naughty Dog is the best developer out there right now.

My only gripe is that they killed Joel. I see how it sets the arc for the story but they could have done it another way besides killing him. They could have made it so he was badly beaten and Ellie set out for revenge and then incorporated him late in the game somehow after he'd recovered. Just one idea. I did feel like they were force feeding LGBTQ representation down our throat by not only consistently reminding us that Ellie is a lesbian but putting a transgender character in the game as well. Just seemed like it was forced and meanwhile they kill off the male lead in the beginning of the game. I think every fan of this game wanted some more time to play as Joel and that was a failure. I didn't have a problem with Ellie taking the lead but give us some Joel too!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review is for the storytelling part, as I was a backseat gamer for this game.

As a person who can't handle horror themed content but loves a good story I have decided to watch others play this game and the one before it.

We fell in love with Joel and Ellie in the first installment. When Joel killed all these people and rescued Ellie from death I felt relief but also knew that Joel just erased humanity's one shot to find a cure. He killed many people, including Abby's dad whom was the only person who could try and make a cure.

At the beginning of the second game Joel is killed by Abby in front of Ellie, and it immediately makes us hate her guts.
Then at the second half of the game we get to play as her again, get to hear her stories, see her past, her attachments to her dad (again, Joel killed him) and her friends that we just killed as Ellie. I don't know about you guys - but by the end of the game I just hoped they would stop trying to kill each other. They hurt each other enough. Even though I feel like I can't forgive Abby for what she had done I also feel like I no longer has a desire to see Ellie kills her.

So when Ellie finally let go, I was relieved.

The story did it's job by making me see the other side and eventually get off the revenge horse they had put me on in the first place.
Abby's revenge ruined her relationships and got her friends killed.
Ellie's revenge got Jesse killed and almost Dina, and might have ruined her relationship with her.
So now it's time to let go and focus on the things that truly matters.

I gave it an 8 out of 10 because it was not executed, in my opinion, in a way that was compelling enough to make you super invested in both Ellie's and Abby's stories. It's only around when they actually get to confront each other that it got interesting and intense. But their journeys for the most part was not as such.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, I would give this a solid 9 or a 10 but the story pacing was off.

Abby is a good character and honestly I don't get why people would criticize the game for how Joel died. He gave up his name because 1) he got a little soft during the years in safety, 2) Tommy already said their names to Abby and used his real name to introduce himself to the group, and 3) it's his gosh dang first name, how was he to expect he would be killed for revealing that his name was Joel (which a million other people are named, I'm sure).
I loved the game! Both of the Abby/Ellie fights were great and very hard to get through because I just wanted them to stop. It's something that I think is super awesome they managed to do with a video game.
I lowkey thought Abby's section was better than Ellie's (just a bit). I can understand why people don't like that it isn't much related to Ellie's half. But I think it is related to the theme, the game is making you play instead of telling you what to think or feel about a character. You're taken on a ride with Abby and Lev that reminded me of the Joel and Ellie dynamic but in a unique and interesting way. As soon as Abby makes the choice to betray her people for the ones she cares about and gain her humanity back, we are asked to undergo a similar change. We are forced to ask ourselves, "Am I willing to forgive her?". If the answer is yes, then it becomes all the more painful to see the death and destruction Ellie caused from Abby's point of view. Just as soon as she was redeemed, Abby had to lose all over again. And when these two collide, they know nothing about each other and we know everything, we understand both sides. This is what made the fighting, from then on, so frustrating and so engaging.

This review bombing trash here is awful play the game first and then judge. I didn't pay attention to any of that and enjoy playing and after I finished today I looked what the fuss about. And the transgender character I didn't know until I learned, it wasn't that obvious at all and after I learned I know what character they mean but I couldn't figure it out when I didn't know this piece of info. The ending was weird but it fits nicely into this whole game atmosphere and points they were trying to make. Imho ending was little bit oblong but I understand they're intention.
Graphics was amazing I still don't really understand how can it be so beautiful on my old OG PS4 and I didn't really experience FPS drops that much but my PS4 is old and full of dust and need thermal paste so maybe overheating and underclocking was a problem on my system but that is all about graphic. Graphics in this game with one word: beautiful.

Cons: I encountered several bugs through playing that basically ruined my checkpoints. It was a lot more than OG but I only played Remaster of OG so I don't really know how many bugs had OG OG PS3 ver when it came out, but I am sure they will fix most of this issues by updates.
Also, checkpoints were all over the place in places that I didn't really need checkpoint on every meter they gave me that, but when I had one of the hardest fights in the entire game I didn't have checkpoint until freaking kilometre away, that angered me but I guess The Last of Us was always hard so.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's not perfect, but it is damn good.

I don't want to spend all day addressing every single issue that people have raised with this game, but I want to pick a few that I have seen:

The whole Joel thing. Devastating? Yes. That's kind of the point isn't it? Yes we all loved Joel from the first game, but where does this sequel lead if he's around? It would just lead to a bit of a rehash of the first one and I, while I can't speak for everyone, would find that a bit underwhelming. The game needed a catalyst for a change. I think if it was a different character then the impact isn't the same - if it's Ellie then not only did Joel go through everything in the first game for nothing, but we are again left with Joel having lost a daughter/ daughter-like-figure. If it was Tommy then there isn't quite that level of loss for us as players and it doesn't hit as hard. Also, lots of people have pointed out Joel's sudden stupidity for trusting these people at the beginning when in the first game he didn't trust anyone. Yes, but they've been in Jackson for years by this point - he has clearly softened slightly. When your day to day job is to patrol and kill infected to protect people then surely when you come across someone in danger you would naturally defend them and when they help you too then your guard would be let down slightly and that's all it takes.

Playing as Abby. Yeah this felt a bit strange at first, but I grew to like it. I think the strength of these games is the story telling and through playing as Abby we get depth. This depth strengthens the story - rather than just creating a game about a good guy going after a villain we have flawed people embroiled in a battle in the darkness of a broken world. The only bit I didn't like about playing as Abby was the fight with Ellie - I understand that it becomes almost the "boss level" but it felt a bit odd trying to kill Ellie and I think perhaps this could have been a cut scene instead.

With regards to there being loads of plot holes (Joel's lack of awareness, Ellie dropping the map etc.), can we try to suspend our disbelief a little bit? It is a game and there needs to be a way of progressing the story. The characters are flawed and it is inevitable that mistakes would be made. Try to think this otherwise you'd end up getting caught up in every little thing such as not getting bullets from an enemy that seems to have endless ammo while they're shooting at you.

Overall I think it's an incredible game with a strong story. No, I don't think that it is quite as good as the first one, but let's face it - sequels rarely are better. It tells an intriguing story, it has a long amount of gameplay (which I haven't even mentioned - it is great) and it is incredibly immersive. One thing I would reeeeally stress is that you make up your own mind on whether you like the game rather than basing your opinion on what strangers are saying on the internet (I am aware of the irony of me being a stranger on the internet). You don't have to hate the game or be in love with it - you can just enjoy the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Despite all the hate this game got I still think it was a really great game though it did have some flaws. Here's why:

When Abby killed Joel it was understood that this person is to be hated as she has just demolished one of the most beloved protagonists in video game history. During the first ten hours of the game ( played as Ellie) my rage for Abby was building up and I didn't give a flying **** who I was killing to get my hands on her. It was all like that until we come across Nora. She's the first friend of Abby's that we actually get to talk to. After that encounter, you can see that Ellie is shaken but still continues to move forward. She goes to the aquarium and kills Mel and Owen who I didn't care much for but again Ellie is ****ing disturbed to learn that the lady she just killed is pregnant. Yada Yada Yada Abby comes in and kills Jesse (Who I personally liked), grabs Tommy, and points a gun at Ellie. At that moment I wanted every bad thing to happen to Abby and had nothing but hatred for that character.

Then the screen goes black. Time runs back and you're playing as Abby from four years back. At this point, I realized why this game got so much hate. You play as the person who killed Joel. During the ten hours of the game, I didn't connect one bit with Abby or her dumb friends. I didn't feel bad for killing them and I just wanted to go back to playing as Ellie. Personally I found the Abby gameplay pretty fun but I just didn't enjoy being here. You do get to see why Abby wanted to kill Joel and I started getting her side of the story a bit.

We come across Yara and Lev. After helping them out a bit Abby loses all the respect she got from me for helping these scars by wanting to see if her retarded boyfriend was okay. After a scene I wish I can erase from my mind, she
goes back to help Yara and Lev. During this time you get to know them a bit more. But when you go to the hospital with Lev that's when I start liking Abby a bit more. The time with her and Lev reminded me of the time with Joel and Ellie from the first game. They bond a bit and Lev even tries to open up. We see Abby not being selfish and caring for the safety and well being of Lev and Yara.

During the sniper scene, I really ****ing hated whoever was behind that scope. I couldn't wait to get to him and **** him up, but then we realize that the sniper that we were hating on was Tommy. It's really interesting to see that perspective can change a lot and that's what naughty dog was trying to show us in this game.

When we get back from the island I kinda felt bad for her. She just lost her group, everyone she worked with thinks she's a snake, and when she opens the aquarium door shes gonna find Mel and Owen dead on the floor, she lost everything. I felt bad for her but I didn't really care for her at that point that much that I would be sad if Ellie randomly popped up and shot her in the head. I think I was more attached to Lev than I was to Abby. His story seemed more interesting and I saw him as a likable character. He was literally the reason I liked Abby even if it was just a bit.

It's weird because at the theatre I didn't want Abby to die but then SHE KILLS fricking TOMMY!! (or I thought). I felt really bad playing as Abby and beating the **** out of Ellie because I wanted Abby dead for killing Tommy. I had confused feelings for her. I think Naughty Dog thought that by the end of the ten hours you would be attached to her or something but that obviously didn't happen with most players.

It's crazy how if Ellie didn't leave to find Abby again in Santa Barbara, Ellie would've been happy with her family but Abby and Lev would've died, but Ellie did go and Abby and Lev lived and probably moved to the fireflies base to live a happy life while Ellie lost her two fingers, lost Dina (not confirmed), and couldn't keep the promise with Tommy.

We get to see the flashback of Ellie's last conversation with Joel and it was a really beautiful moment.

THE FLAWS: First and foremost let's get to the fact that Joel would've never revealed his name or entered a building to a group of armed strangers. That was just bad writing. Mel going to combat was stupid plus Joel saved Abby but she still killed him making Abby's logic a bit confusing. I didnt connect with Abby's friends that much as the game intended to.

Overall the game had the best graphics on the PS4 so far. The writing wasn't all awful it was just not sequenced properly and it could've been way better (Like if we played as Abby before killing Joel). Again the flashbacks were really well-timed and wholesome. The gameplay was pretty fun. The story wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It was really interesting seeing the other side of the story. It wasn't as good as the first game but I wouldn't blatantly give it a 0 for no good reason.

It is not a good narrative structure for nonplayers who just watch others play and skip files. It will be better to stop at the part that Tommy came to the farm and ask for continuing their revenge.

Is this a game worth $59.99?
    Yes, it is.

Is it a good storytelling game?
Mmmmm, that depends on the player.

    Is the story not reasonable?
No, the storytelling itself has a reasonable logic structure. Just half of the people can't accept it doesn't mean it is not reasonable. Aren't there many stupid protests going in the world every year?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly i think the gameplay is very solid, probably some of the most dynamic I’ve played this gen, especially from naughty dog. Plus this is one of the most beautiful games I’ve played. However I feel the story falls just slightly short, I enjoyed everything in the ellie side of things except for when she didn’t kill abby. I feel the idea of her losing herself on this quest would have prompted a really good direction for a third game. However where it feel short for me was how they tried to showcase how EVERYONE isn’t how we perceive them, for example Joel wasn’t the good guy in the first game for saving ellie from abbys point of view. Ellie isn’t the good guy because She kills countless people, abby isn’t just the bad guy because she grows and bonds with the scars. And protects lev. The wolves are the bad guys because they’re just people too, the scars are just people regardless of how brutally they kills the wolves. It felt very heavy handed towards the end for me personally. I personally like the idea of showing the dynamic of ellie isn’t just the hero. And abby isn’t purely evil for evils sake. However I think if we really showcased that dynamic will just ellie and abby it could have hit home more, then ellie, abby, Tommy, lev, all the scars, The wolves etc. I also personally felt that the abby stuff dragged on, once the confrontation between her and ellie happened mid way through, I wanted to get back to see what happened there. I think if maybe reshuffling the way the story was told for example Day 1 show Ellie’s side then abby’s and continue that, that way it’s only a chapter in between that confrontation. And I feel like a lot of that drag would be gone with that set up. All in all it is still a solid game and worth the play. Expand

Yes. The story could have been better and they could have handled the different story directions that they did make with a lighter blow. However, if I separate this game from the first... The game is fine. That's how I've always had to deal with sequels. The problem with any established series is that there are highs and lows. There will always be people upset with one thing or another because everyone thinks that a story should go the way it did in their head. Except it doesn't, and I don't expect it to.

For me this game was a major WTF in my face, but I kind of enjoyed it while being emotionally damaged because that's the type of gamer I am. (For anyone that watches anime, I am that person that would give School Days a positive score because of the ending).

Also, in game, I noticed how many options they had for those with disabilities and was pleased and happy for a community that doesn't get as much as they deserve from games. It is clear that Naughty Dog cares for their gamers despite the amount of hate that they have received for the story of this game; and I can't wait to see what they do next.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is a masterpiece, but I simply don't like it. And I get why people don't. Here are the biggest issues I have with the game:
    1. Yes, killing Joel is important to the narrative and it gives the players the motivation to go on a revenge quest. The problem is that unlike in the first game, people aren't playing as the character (Ellie), they're playing as themselves. Ellie's choice to not kill Abby was a good one, but it still feels really unsatisfying. I actually like extremely dark and grim games, but one thing I can't stand is an unsatisfying piece of media, because to do something unsatisfying I can just do things in real life. If they had killed someone the player isnt that attatched with, eg. Dina, and/or if Joel was crippled in the act, I think the game would've been liked by more people. And I say this with pain because they gays always get **** in the story and I hate that **** But I get it, Naughty Dog wanted to try something new. And the narrative about the Fireflies wouldn't be the same without the death of Joel. I guess its a catch-22. So, I recommend that you play the game with a cold head.

    2. What the **** is up with Abby's part? Yeah I get it, she's a complex character and not all bad, but why does she start killing her WLF friends right after going AWOL, isn't she supposed to be getting better as a person or whatever? They should've given her non-lethal methods of takedown, like what? Also, why does she help the kids so much in the first place? I get they saved her and all, but Joel had an actual good reason to travel with Ellie? I guess its because she just gets magically attatched to them in a day, even though she's a hardened survivor.

    3. Lev's transness is kind of **** up. Its interesting that they included a trans character, but its literally the source of every single problem of Yara. It takes her arm and eventually kills her. Plus Lev just makes really dumb choices un general. I get that he's a kid but damn, survival of the fittest. The kid is a dumbass. I feel bad for her sister. I wish they didn't have killed her.

    4. The ending. Again, its super unsatisfying, and I hate that Abby and Lev's ending has some hope in it (they can go and find the Fireflies), but why is Ellie's ending so ambiguous? The only clue that she has some hope left is that she's wearing the bracelet Dina gave her. But she can't even look at herself in the mirror anymore. Its a depressing ending. I like to think she went back to Jackson. Also, why does she leave Joels guitar there???? Like I get its a metaphor for leaving his death behind or whatever, but why does she leave it there without a case???? I think its so disrecpectful, like I get you can't get attached to material things in this universe but at least put it in the case. Come on

So basically, this game is good but you can't play it if you're too attached to Joel. I'm replaying TLOU and trying to forget about this one. And I'll replay part 2 when I forget a little bit about TLOU because there's no way a 60€ is only giving me 25 hours of content. That **** was expensive.

I have mixed feelings from the ending and the way the developers served it to us. Also, the LGBT propaganda in this game is too strong... but that's just a note and it does not affect my review for this game. Game gets repetetive in the end of the game. Overall I can recommend this game for its fun gameplay and amazing universe which you will dig into right away. Expand

Great game, story not as strong as the first one but people have to understand Joels actions in the first game and the amount of people he killed was always going to have repercussions, other than that graphics are amazing and gameplay is superb

Interesting game. Some parts in stories were **** up, but that's life. Gameplay is good.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
