    I can understand why people have such strong opinions on this game. (in my opinion) A lot of the story moments are justified and the characters we hate are humanized in such a way that you are able to understand why they made particular choices and where they come from. The pacing definitely has issues. Some of the scenes should have been placed before others (if that makes sense). TheI can understand why people have such strong opinions on this game. The environments are so meticulously detailed and the gameplay blows the 1st game's gameplay out of the park. Naughty dog was brave to try something new and i understand why people are decisive about it. But i respect naughty dog for taking tough decisions. This isn't the best naughty dog game, its not even close, but I think that this is a pretty good game in my eyes. There are a few plot holes and the pacing was all over the place but thats not the end of the world for me(not pun intended). I think that it should be understood that revenge isn't the story of this game, its the plot. Ill be checking out new game plus on a harder difficulty.… Expand

    After the simple, but well executed story of the 2013 play station last of us oriented around an middle-aged man losing his daughter after the outbreak of a global pandemic and reconnecting with his human side by befriending a girl of the same age 20 years later. changing from ruthless killing machine to ruthless killing machine who has a daughter figure.
    its a really simple, shallow story that would be near impossible to f*ck up due to its basic setup. but people lost their minds over this fairly average game with a memorable heartfelt story, and this along a side naughty dogs continuous climb of excellence making hit AAA title after hit AAA title people were expecting something they would never get.

    Last of us part 2 is a Good game. not a 'Sh*t' game and by no means a 'masterpiece'
    people expected something they would never get, the last of us again.
    The game is stunning, sounds like god, controls perfectly, is the single best animated game ever and is superbly acted. a lot of hard work was put into making the world. almost sweat shop conditions where people almost f*cking died due to naughtydog's crunch type game development. where people would be working up until 9pm. The game is worth playing alone for all of these reasons.

    But people aren't mad about this. They are mad about the story.
    So from an unbiased view, how is the story? pretty good. Better than most games you find in AAA titles such as Assassins creed or Gears of war or Call of duty or Days Gone. The only real issue is its slightly jarring structure and downright inconsistent pacing, that is being nice. but again most people aren't mad about that either. its the 'twists'and deaths and lack of character development.

    Before i go into spoilers let me just say i do recommend this game, and i recommend it blind and i recommend that you play the game with the key word being 'Empathy'. You need a lot of that and a fair bit of emotional intelligence with a lack of bias to truly appreciate this game.
    Okay, spoilers from this point on:

    I would discuss the whole plot but i've sent my general thoughts and would just like to go over major plot points that people are pissed over and do my best to explain that these aren't poor decisions but instead are actual features of the narrative. starting with Joels death. people have called it 'pathetic' and 'rushed'. now whilst i somewhat agree with it being rushed it ins't a cheap move to make a plot its a natural and fair conclusion to what is a pretty terrible person. He is killed by someone that has more than all the right to kill him. the daughter of the surgeon who would've saved the world. Abby.
    please remember the empathy idea i brought up. This story is about empathising with 'bad' people.

    Second thing people are p*seed about is Abby. playing as her is very aggravating at first but as you play more and more so long as you don't b*tch and wine about tit the whole time and take your time to pay attention and listen to her side of the story, despite its annoying structure of turning back the plot and playing it all over again, you can empathise with her more and more. Abby feels terrible guilt for the brutal murdering of Joel and starts a journey to protect and help a brother and sister. and does so because of the guilt and because Abby sees herself in Lev (the brother) as he also had his family and home torn away from him. Like Abby had from Joels selfish acts.
    so long as you take the time to appreciate her story you will find yourself interested and invested in what is essentially a re-telling of the last of us 1.

    finally people don't like Ellies lack of an arch. to which i say, what the f*ck? the whole point of Ellies journey is that she has had her purpose in life taken from her by Joel, and finds her only motivation she has left is to kill. But not being strong enough emotionally she becomes more and more sad and psychotic, towards the very end looking like a genuine insane person with blood all over her terribly damaged body - reflecting her mind.
    Ellie doesn't learn and has caused herself to lose everything she had. Not Abby.
    Its sad to watch and play but its only natural this happens to someone, especially someone who's only 18 bear in mind. so her arch is shallow and she doesn't better herself but only worsens herself.

    So to conclude, most of what people disliked about the game was just the point of it. Play this game again and really think whilst playing and you may just find a unique story with a few interesting new things to offer.    … Expand

Combat environments feel very fluid, stealth feels even more viable than the original because of how mobile you're allowed to be. Overall the gameplay feels familiar but more polished. Cons: The story is told in a non linear fashion which I enjoyed, however some parts are noticeably slower than others. Most of the game kept me engaged either with story beats or new gameplay features or new enemies, but there were some times where I felt like I wanted to see more of a different part of the plot, and the part I was playing through didn't do quite enough to pull me in. The game isn't long enough. In all seriousness the game felt quite long especially after having just completed the first game, but even still as I approached the end I kept hoping I was far away from the credits.    … Expand

    The gameplay is excellent and the story is brilliant, the only thing i think was crap (literally) and feels like it was forced was the ending, looks like the writers got out of ideas. What such an horrible ending for a good story. Is for real, the ending is way too forced.

    Finished the game after 20+ hours. Felt like an ultraviolence walking simulator. Terrible plot, even worse ending and i'm not quite sure there's much more to do with this game. Waste of money

Joel is killed off with no good reason, and his shear stupidity and innocence in this game is undeniable. In the original game he was smart and could smell a trap from a mile away. He was remorseless, and didn't trust people. In this game he walks into a trap, gives all his personal information, and then gets killed. UNBELIEVABLE. Not only that, but then they expect us to play as his murderer. This is by far the worst game Naughty Dog Has ever made.… Expand

    Download an emulator to play this because it isnt worth your money. Yes the game is beautiful graphically but if you are a fan of the first game this one will destroy your childhood and make you hate both games. Because of that. 0 out of 10. The only way i can enjoy last of us now is by trying to wipe this game from my memory.

    The brilliance of this game is the way it explores it's themes, not only on it's characters but on the player too. To make you feel something and then question why you feel that way.     Yo queria jugar con Joel y Ellie. Me tuve que bancar 10 horas con un personaje que no empátize.     Es un juego bastante divertido y la experiencia de jugarlo es bastante buena, la historia del juego en algunas ocasiones parece tener bastantes coincidencias sólo para que el juego pueda continuar con esta misma pero al final de cuentas si llegué a disfrutar el juego, me hizo sentir bastantes emociondo la mayoría del tiempo por lo que creo que es un buen juego.

    This game is a landmark in graphics quality and storytelling in video games. The game makes the player question their ideas and beliefs with its brutal revenge story. The game also has a solid gameplay to top it all off. Really great game!

The characters are underdeveloped and nothing from the first game resonates into the second. Old characters do not fit their personalities and new characters fail miserably at creating any emotional attachment. However, the production is outstanding and should be appreciated regardless of the writing. They also handled heavy topics in a way that didn’t seem too distracting.     Don't be deceived by the graphics and visuals. FOCUS on the story quality and the weak plot! It lacks quality. There is ABSOLUTELY NO PAY OFF for games in the end. The purpose of gaming is allow the gamer to make decisions while being fully immersed. This game ignores and disrespect basic courtesy to gamers.

    Great graphics and smooth gameplay, but absolute trash story that destroys everything fans loved. If you love the first last of us stick to the original and dont bother buying this garbage. They said you cant base a game on spoilers but in this case you absolutely can the actual game is even more disappointing than the spoilers could have revealed.

    I'm just going to say that everything instead for the story of the game is good the story is really bad and is frustrating because you can see what they tried to do with it but they developed the ideas in a horrific way and this is the last of us so you mainly play the game because of the story so I would say it's not worth buying

The producers make you play for about 8 hours with the **** who killed him and part of this messed up game play is to beat the **** out of Ellie. Yes, they force you to kick your favorite character’s ass. This girl who killed Joel wins and you NEVER GET TO AVENGE JOEL’S death. It’s the worse storyline of all times. It’s torture to play it. The only motivation to finish the game is to see the bloody revenge that never happens.… Expand

    not only do we see Joel die, one of the most beloved characters in recent years, but we must play with Abby his murderer a lot of the time, almost kill Ellie and Tommy and in the end we can't get revenge and we let her escape after ruining Ellie's life. Really? Did they really think that people would like this? the graphics are super good and the gameplay is fine, the game had several bugs but as I said once more the important thing for me is the story and this story sucks.    … Expand

You go and kill off joel almost as soon as the game starts whom we've waited to play for 7 years. And to kill him off in such a disrespectful manner, i mean you want us to believe that Joel has gotten soft while living in Jackson while Ellie has become a Master killer, give me a break! Stupid story, lack of inovativeness, the game forces you to like Abby. It tries to forcefully change the perspective which the first part built and tries to brainwash us by saying Joel is bad. Which in turn only makes matters worse and we hate abby more. Dina has 0 % charm/personality. We don't get to kill anyone meaningful by ourselves, only in cutscenes or quicktime events. They want us to believe hate/revenge is bad and Ellie doesn't kill Abby in the end because Joel would have wanted her to forgive her but inturn abby gets to get away with everything in the end. She show 0% of remorse and they want her to be seen as a hero and a victim of injustice. I for sure ain't gonna buy any naughty dog game in which Neil Druckmann is involved moving forth. Utter disappointment. Save your piece of mind and money please. I fell in love with the first part and now i hate this one.… Expand

    O jogo foi inundado com a nojenta agenda LGBT, extremamente desnecessário. Criar essas narrativas só pra destruir o jogo, além de outros furos na história e destruição de personagens amados do primeiro jogo. Conseguiram, queriam ser modinha e eis o resultado.
    Não gastem seu dinheiro nesse jogo, não vale a pena.

Because one, it doesn't deserve the praise its been getting and being fair i know this site is blocking negative reviews so this is fair play.
    Not gonna spoil what happens exactly but i would not reccomend buying it in the first week, month or year after its release, this feels like i've been robbed 60 which honestly would've been better spent at buying paper MTG or hell even buying barbells, clothing or a meal for the whole familiy/friends for christ sakes.

It took the fun out of me playing when you travel through missions and you have to try to comprehend Exactly whats going on between the players. The ending was so confusing. I atleast expected elle to get revenge from such a a horrible character. The game even expects you to play as the character that killed joel. I had no sympathy for abby because it made no sense why we have to play as the villian. Akward sex scene by the way which involved infidelity and fetishin intentions. Overall, i couldnt understand why neil drukman had to do this alone. You know you cannot leave kids playing with knives because someone is going to get hurt. In conclusion, the game was a mess. What I found is that The Last of Us Part 2 will be a game that I will remember because of its impact on me. I think about it all the time, I can't stop! Very few games stick with me after getting through the credits but this game has rewritten what a videogame and a story can be. Playing through this there were moments like Ellie's cover of 'Take on me' and the ending fight between Abby and Ellie that were some of the greatest moments I have ever experienced in a videogame. This game tells a story of revenge, Abby's revenge story shows the effects as she loses everyone close to her while you see Ellie directly go through it during the game. The game to me is about breaking this cycle and truly finding a purpose, that was the true goal that was achieved in the end. While I can't directly express my thoughts into words I just want to share my experience and while it wasn't perfect I can happily say it was a game I won't forget but rather a memory I hope will never fade.… Expand

This is a post-apocalyptic world where it is dark and unsafe. I really really appreciate how this game is so close to reality especially how amazing the graphics and sounds are. It is true that the way ND told the story may not work for everybody but it worked for me. I was so emotionally attached to the characters, though there are some that need more spotlight like Jesse. But nonetheless, I was wrecked for days after playing it.

    Like what Neil explained Joel felt safe for years, he got used in saving people and bringing them in Jackson. After many years of feeling safe and comfort, of course, there will be moments where you'll let your guard down. Besides, though his intentions of saving Ellie is good but let's face it, what he did was wrong.... killing a bunch of people and loses the chance of having a cure. ND left us with Part 1 thinking if Joel's actions were justifiable. It felt so badass and right at the time so it didn't matter until we got a part 2. In this world, you will not die in a heroic/honorable way you imagined, you just die and sometimes it is because of the choices you made in the past.

    I understand that it would be very difficult to play as Abby after what just happened. I even killed her on purpose in the first few minutes but in order to really feel and fully experience what ND prepared for us, we just have to have an open mind. I honestly got tired playing as her after her Day 1 and really want to be back as Ellie but again, I allowed myself to experience the game and the emotions. Only at the theater scene I realized I was attached to Abby. I didn't want her to die but I also didn't want Ellie to die (but I let Ellie shoot Abby a few times just to get even haha). ND really did a bold move there, letting players think that you'd kill Ellie as Abby. It tore me apart, I was so confused. Every punch hurts. But that is also brilliant! Never have I played a game that made me feel that way, that played with my emotions like that.

    Ellie already have a great life with Dina and JJ until Tommy showed up. I was shocked to see that many people didn't get why Ellie chose to go after Abby. I mean given the trauma she has, the mock she received from Tommy and knowing that there is still this lingering feeling in your chest that you could do something to make it stop. That is enough reason to blindside me of what is in front of me and what I have to lose. And people ask why she didn't kill Abby? Did you guys look how shook she was after killing Nora, Owen and Mel? And look at Abby and Lev. Ellie knows she's not a bad person and killing Abby will lose the last humanity left in her. Joel wouldn't want this for her too.

    Sometimes, we think that what we are doing is right but you'll only realize that it is wrong once you are there at that very moment.

    I think that's what happened, that's why she didn't do it. It's just depressing to see that she had to lose everything to see that. But that's what makes this game so realistic. In reality, you make bad decisions and you face the consequences.    … Expand

Visually stunning, fluid gameplay, visceral, and surreal. I was 100% engrossed through the first half. The second half.... How does that meme go? " you had us in the first half" lol. Critics love it because it is "unexpected" but fans of the original game hate it because it spoils and undermines all that was good about the first game. The developer cared more about "subverting expectations" than they did about creating a game that people will enjoy playing. The first game was heart wrenching, touching, depressing, empowering and unexpected all at the same time while still being enjoyable. I finished the game wanting nothing more than to find out more about what happened to Joel, Ellie, Tommy and the world. Then when I finished Last of Us 2 I was left feeling defeated and hoping that I could just forget I ever played it. Instead of showing us how Joel and Ellie's relationship developed and grew over they years, you get to sit by while Joel is murdered while Ellie is forced to watch. The developer tries so hard to make you look at things through someone else's eyes that you barely get to enjoy the characters that we came to see. At one point you are even required to play as the villain in a boss fight against the best character in the game. The game is not without its highlights. The graphics and detail are stunning. I am so impressed with the developer's dedication to inclusivity with the accessibility settings that allow as many people as possible enjoy the game. I think more games should follow that trend. But the reason we play games like Last of Us 2 is the story that it tells, and the story is the part of this game that is truly unforgivable.… Expand

    Very bad story, gameplay is same as first game. Witcher 3 graphics is better than this one and that is over 5 years old. Tried to stay away from the leaks to form my own opinion and was surprised to see mine is same as many others. Will be staying away from this studios bait and switch schemes from now on.

    Why did you add a noise filter to hide the defaults or the doanwgrade of the games?
    Total disappointment the gameplay of the horse is to be reviewed because it slides on the side the gaming experience is marred by details and the 30FPS the impression that the character when you rotate big blur effects and the noise filter that the thing even worse.

    Yes the game is stunning, the visuals, the audio, the mechanics and design just beautiful, really amazing work. BUT the story....its a mess. Yes I didn't like the story but if it really was the story they needed to tell ND could have done it better. We deserved better after 7 years.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
