A story that makes you question the morality of the cause from every side that's shown in this post apocalyptic world. Sympathies change left, right and centre. Really? Neil Druckmann ruined this franchise. The storyline is trash. He killed one of the most loved characters to justify his poorly made storyline. And he made Ellie from TLOU 1 into a dumb character with nothing left on her at the end. The actual fight experience was good, though. But the stupid storyline basically ruined everything.

Part 2 is a beautiful game with amazing mechanics and i can absolute respect the contradicts portrayed in this game however the story completely forgot its roots. Its like characters in the game just forgot their past experiences for the sake of shoving a completely irredeemable character in. The story was awful. I dont care that he died but the way that he did. He would have never allowed himself to be in that situation and the ending of the game completely contradicts the ending of the first game and makes zero sense. I wanted this game to be so good but was left disappointed.

If you know Naughty Dog and what they are capable of, you can probably tell these user scores are just trolls, I had seen the leaks and played the game. All I can say is, its hands down, one of the best games I have ever played in my life. Supposedly the anger is because of the outcome of some beloved character than some people could not handle.
some say, the marketing was bad but that was only if only to keep the story protected.
For someone who had actually played the game, it would be impossible to rate this game anywhere lower than 8.
I literally just made an account to rant about this mess going on.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. aside from the obvious split in opinions based on what happens in the game, The Last Of Us Part II showcases one of the most visually appealing games in PS4 history along with some great audio design and an enjoyable, though somewhat tedious, gameplay. when playing a video game like TLOU2, you got to understand that this is Naughty Dog's story to tell, not your own story to create. there is nothing a user can do to change the 25 hour-long story that ND spent years to present. I respect the bold choices the studio made to break away from the happy endings and fan services that many video games still fall victim to. the story might have been depressing, violent and full of hate as ND claimed long before the game's release and leaks (possibly the worst thing to happen to this game, I am sure more people would be on board with Abby's character if it weren't for the leaks) but at the end of the day, a story that involves hundreds and thousands of deaths, including characters we love, was inevitable in the world Naughty Dog built throughout the first TLOU and I am still excited to see what direction ND takes in TLOU3 based on what happened in this game. Overall, I am just as satisfied with TLOU2 and I was with TLOU in a totally different way, and the amount of both justified and unjustified hate this game is receiving from the general public is disappointing to me. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I like many others loved the 1st. This game isnt great but its not as bad as the bombers are making it. It sucks in the first 30 mins joel is dead, on top of that, ellie goes about getting revenge ONLY for you to play as the killer of joel. At first it was a wtf moment, and i hated it. Then i kept playing and realised dying didnt change the fact i needed to play as abby. I saw what they were going for and why they did that i just dont think it needed to be so long with her. Right now 2 days out after finishing i wish ellie killed her but understand why she didnt. In the moment when she saw joel and he was happy ,that flash back as part of the ptds set her free and she let abby go free to find the fireflys. I really dont see good and bad in this game, characters are doing what they need to , to survive. People forget the ambush by the bus in #1 joel saying # ive been on the otherside" when ellie asks how did he known they were under attack. The decision to play again is being held back right now by knowing ellie losing everything at the end, her fingers, her "wife" her "potatoe amd of course Joel. I hope they do another game and close it out. Does ellie go looking for the fireflys that abby found on the radio, im sure word gets back to them and tommy being a former firefly, recently divorced, he might tag along. The mechanics in the game are the same as the first. Same keys, same annimation when ellie does a stealth kill, though they do expand the tree to let you get more skills. Ive been playing around with the accessibility stuff in the area where abby finds her dad, thats a short area and that stuff is really good and forward moving. The LQBTQ kinds of stuff in this game are overused and too strange, which almost destroys the storyline. The most unacceptable part to me is that Dina gets pregnant while having a relationship with Ellie, and the father of the baby is being headshot while opening the door... WTF? Political correct and the messy storyline is a disaster to many fans of the TLOU series. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't want to just say don't play this game but I found I lost the motivation to really quickly. Technically it's great for this generation and there are some nice world building touches. And here's the but why build a game that was built on the relationship of two people surviving a world and then kill that relationship in one swoop.

Who wrote this, were they watching Rambo last blood. Great games and films are built on story's that are compelling, very few of us watch films or play games where there is no hope. We chase fantasy.

People who gave it ten out of ten where is your mortality and what were you playing.

Ellie so you have been living in a community for 4 years and a safe place with a good quality of life and it turns you into a commando. Happy for the equality nods and there changes that is so progressive in the gaming industry but give us a break not putting the effort in to explain the character journey.

I got bored of killing people trying to survive so quickly, I don't need a game to tell me what's right or wrong. Most who play games know what's right or wrong.

Also did you forget about character development. Making us play a character were hunting do you think that helps keep us stay on mission when we hate her for killing Joel?

Given everything that is going on in the world today you thought selling a game that shows us nothing but violence was a good idea. Even though Ellie comes to her senses at the end we have all still killed hundreds of characters to get us there.

Naughty Dog you write great stories that is your gift. This is junk, this will have come from someone who thought they were making a statement but is not in touch with the real world. You clearly all were too scared to say what you felt, you should be ashamed.

You also have made a game that some idiot will say games promote violence and to the very few you have achieved that. Bravo

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly, I think that this game was what it was supposed to be cinematically and so much improved from the TLoU1 mechanically. Storyline(spoiler after disclaimer) - Ellie and Abby’s arch’s make sense if you consider them as real people rather than characters in your story. PTSD, sorrow, sadness masquerading as revenge, and finding closure without finality are all real and I felt it all. I felt the rage and bloodlust after (spoilers until next paragraph) Joel’s death. I felt the confusion at finding all the dead in Seattle, I felt the tiredness at the end of day 2, the confusion and sense of duty as Abby, and when I was at the farm with my family I felt like I’m done but, can I just leave it like that. Once I was in this fight with Abby, I just didn’t want it to be so personal, why couldn’t I just shoot her. Why are the developers making me do this, imagine being Ellie in that fight. “Why do I have to kill her? I’m so tired. I’ve come so far. Is this really what I want or just what I think I need to do. This does nothing for Joel. This kid will die if I kill Abby. I just want this to be over.” And so she chose it to be over. To choose herself and her conscience over revenge. I loved it. Also, it had some of the unfairness of real life. I did all this **** to get the surgery kit for her to get merc’ed come on. Lol The story was great if you’re willing to let go of, well basically yourself, and realize Joel had a good heart yes. But he was far from perfect and made bad decisions, and was ultimately as selfish as everyone in that godforsaken world, and as Ellie have to go against that mentality in the end. Game mechanics - I liked everything the changed from the first
    -Finally I have a knife
    -I can jump
    -I can craft arrows
-I can dodge and get into real brawls
    -I can make silencers
    -I can go prone
In general the gameplay was smoother and cleaner than a game from 2013 nothing to write home about. Cons-
It felt too easy...? I played it on the hardest mode and it felt pretty easy to kill anything, my ammo was usually full, my backpack was usually full, I found all of the cards. I hope they drop a harder update but that’s about all.

    Thanks for reading!

Graphically speaking, it’s probably the most beautiful game on this console generation. I’d rank this first with RDR2 second. From the various environments you’ll be adventuring in, its stunning on every aspect. Second, the gameplay is an upgrade. There is no auto aim when you start off which adds to the realism and you will always have two approaches whenever encountering enemies: either use your resources and take them out in the open OR take the stealthy approach and take them out quietly one by one. However, the con of this is that because the story is significantly long, it gets repetitive and becomes dreadful at a certain point. The game also adds puzzles as well as letters written by different factions & groups. There are also safe combinations that provide valuable goods if you’re a person that loves exploring a game to its entirety (like me). A lot of jump scares in the game also give it a horror feeling. There were several instances where I was on the edge of my seat.
Now that the good stuff is out of the way, the negative factors of the game is primarily it’s storytelling. It’s hard not to mention it but the last few hours of the game are utterly pointless and meaningless. Since I’m striving to make this review as spoiler-free as possible, you will have the opportunity to play as another character. Essentially, what you do with this character, is complete meaningless tasks and it takes away from Ellie’s story - which is what we wanted to see more of. So much so, that you sort of forget of Ellie by the time you’re through with that portion of the storyline. While I won’t discuss the ending, it sort of leaves you with the “what was the point of all this?” In comparison to the first game, there was curve ball thrown but for a valid reason. This has none of that - nothing was achieved with what you see. The game also has A LOT of politically correct BS in it. I guess it’s their attempt to try to make the game as inclusive as possible. Overall, this could’ve been a much better game. And it pains me to say it because there was potential for it to be a great game. DO NOT rely on the critics who are praising this game. Due to the story alone, I’d say it’s a 3/10, or 1.5/5. Wait for it to go on sale.

Although most people don't agree to Joel's death, not everyone dies the honorable death they wanted in this cruel, harsh world. Naughty Dog also did a good job in making us feel sympathy for Abby, although she killed the fan-favorite Joel, she was on the same mission Ellie was on, they both extremely loved their "dads". The ending also completed it all,Ellie remembered the scene where she was on the porch with joel, telling him she will forgive him, she put 2 and 2 together and let Abby go. She also didnt want lev to lose Abby just like she lost Joel. What. A. Masterpiece. Expand

The game graphics is awesome, gameplay is awesome, but the story is garbage. Lazy writing, and the characters seems like they are not from the first Last of Us game. Joel being non-cautious is bullcrap. other characters are forgetable, and that big arm lady is bullcrap, how can you gain those muscles on women on post apocalyptic world? is she a cannibal?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 1 was the game that made me come back to video games after several years (10/15 years out?) I bought ps3, all uncharted games and started to play again. I love tlou1 (still) and trustED naughty dog and sony. Bought Ps4 and all naughty dog remasters... then came tlou2. After a long waiting, bought the deluxe edition in pre-order. I was pretty happy, until I started to play this thing... thought 2020 would have anything good after all bad things happening in the world. The game have major story flaws. The full was not even closer of what I was expecting... Well, the most bitter tasty is being forced to play with the killer of Joel. Seriously, I’ve tried hard to play but when reached the way back to hospital was just speedrun until the end of abby’s gameplay. I couldn’t anymore. I did not want to play anymore, but after some days I came back and finished, just finished by the will of “finishing a game” that I paid for. It went even worse... playing against Ellie? Her immunity doesnt matter anymore?... Well that doesnt matter anymore for me. The sadiest after all is not the game itself, is that I trustED naughty dog and the feel like a betrayal and that I was tricked during the trailers and for all those years. You didnt just detroyed tlou story, you destroyed the pillars that made me came back to video games... Never gonna trust in that Studio anymore, even if they build another great IP, then I will wait years and get detroyed again!? Are you going to give us tlou2 money back, fire the whole red tape/story writters in naughty dog, hire competent ones and redo tlou2 ? I’m sure not... Sorry, you dont deserve trust, done for you!!! sad sad sad sad sad sad....

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay... here we go.

Summary: What is... even the story, the trailers and advertising clearly deceived so many of us that I'm actually baffled by the Gall of Naughty Dog.

    Characters:
Ellie: She is pretty brutal, I give her that. Her character arc climax is strangely at the very end of the story. When I saw it happen the first thing that I said in my head is "Oh now you realized this is all **** up." Then gives us a rather bitter end to the story of TLOU2. We get it, reality is **** But when you try to put realism over the story, it's less of a story and more of an in your face message. Which is the root of my issue with the whole story. Anyways, the best part of the game is Ellie's flashbacks with Joel.

Joel: Loved by fans... his plot is almost disgraceful on how they handled it. The teasers and trailers clearly show he is supposed to be alive, but instead, we get deception. Like I know advertisers protect their stories but THIS IS STRAIGHT UP DECEPTION. The cutscenes we see from Joel are flashbacks. The scene where he says "You'll think you're going to do this on your own?" It is actually from Jesse! I am actually pissed about this, I paid a crap ton of money for another adventure with Joel and Ellie. But I instead get crapped on because they had to subvert expectations. This is a videogame not an M. Night Shyamalan movie!

Dina: She is... kinda plain actually. The only memorable part with her as Ellie is the weed scene and music scene. At times when she talks to Ellie, it's kinda as if they weren't really a couple. I actually forgot at one point that Dina was Ellie's partner. Character arc? Um... she... hmph.

Jesse: Damn I really liked this guy but they had to give him such an NPC cutscene death. It didn't even surprise me. I was already numb from the unlikeable storytelling. That's bad if you cannot provoke a strong emotion out of me (Which by the way it's not hard to do), your story is really bad to do so.

Manny: The same situation with Jesse, but the worse part is that bullet like... erased his character's existence and was barely ever mentioned again. Actually even Jesse suffers the same thing.

Abby: Okay mega huge problem with her. They presented her really bad. She claims she cares about people who rescue her... but she murders Joel still? She's a new character that is already presented as an antagonist super early. Like what the **** you completely ruined her chances of being liked at all. ND failed to grab our trust for Abby and left us bitter through the WHOLE STORY. The worst part is, it's like they gave Abby the best parts of the story while Ellie's side is superlinear. The established a character than I don't even care about.

Jerry: Wasn't he black... they race changed him.

    Gameplay:

It has been improved, not going to lie. But it's mostly the same as the first game, run and hide and strike with little resources. Gunplay and brutalities are pretty on par with the first game.
Main gripes, is when enemies call out their friend's names or pets. Honestly, I don't give a **** dude. If you shoot at me I don't care if your dog is named pancakes I will ****ing kill you both for attacking me first. Secondly when they are like "oh wait don't kill me". They'll always try to fight back afterwards, yeah real dynamic. Also, where is the friendly survivor groups, does every person I meet HAVE TO BE ENEMIES. The only thing I remember outside the town is the prisoners that I rescued. But that's a cutscene, give me a moral dilemma if I should raid a neutral survivor group or interact with them so it feels more real. THAT'S HOW YOU HUMANIZE PEOPLE.

    Verdict: 3/10

The gameplay is nice, but the story is like taking IP Man's machinegun punches to my cock.
I don't mind the LGBT representation, I don't mind Joel dying. But the way they presented the whole story is just, awful. The character arcs lead nowhere cause they kinda ALL DIE. The ending was pointless like you might as well finish Abby off too. You already killed hundreds of people!

I believe that Neil Druckman should have made Abby story into a mini game for finishing the Main story.
It could have been a bonus game story to play, if the player want too.
By taking out Abby from the main game. The game would have not felt, so long and dragging.

For example: When you finish the main campaign, and the title screen tell you "You can replay the game with game Plus blah...blah..." a second message pop up. Also, for finishing the main campaign you now unlock "Abby story". This way the player can choose to play Abby story till the End.

I also feel the ending should have 2 ending. One giving you the choose to kill Abby, and a Second choose to let Abby go. I feel that Abby has suffer enough by the end of the game for killing Joel.

If you kill Abby in the end of the main story, on Abby story she dies, if you let her go on Abby Story she lives.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The only reason this game was successful commercially is it’s built up reputation from the first game. Naughty Dog single-handedly destroyed this franchise with this game. The first one was perfection, this one is extremely bitter. It’s extremely depressing. The journey is long and filled with absolutely no feeling of resolution. I did not play this game to sympathize with some piece of trash character and even remotely want to play as her after what happens in the intro. I seriously cannot believe Sony even let Naughty Dog do this. The voice acting and level of detail is definitely good. But with a **** story, this game just left me hating everything about it. I spent 7 years looking forward to Joel and Ellie, to basically get a knife stabbed in me 30 mins into the game and literally hate every min I had to play as Abby. I know that this is a story about revenge and whatnot, but who seriously gives a **** when hundreds of people died in the last game. I have lost all respect for Naughty Dog and hope they learn that they **** up big time to their fans. So many things wrong with the story that it just pisses me off even writing about it. Expand

    1) Tommy and Joel would NOT try so hard to save a perfect stranger wandering so close to their compound

    2) Tommy would NOT invite a group of strangers to their settlement without vetting them thoroughly

    3) Tommy and Joel would NOT just give out their names so easily

    4) People who killed Joel would NOT leave behind 2 important witnesses so that they can come back and bite them in the ass.

These plot holes were never debated at Naughty Dog? I don't believe it.
Just so that they can make up a story of Ellie going on a quest for revenge.
    The writing is just ridiculous...

From great powers comes great responsabilities then Neil Druckmann and all NaughtyDog decide to push forward the meaning of videogame as an interactive medium with themes and connections between other medium like comics movies and music that has been just barely touched in indie games and never in AAA games in this deep way. The only negative thing that i'm a little sad about is that the public wasn't ready for such a brave change and because of this we can't all share the impressions and the love that such a great storyline and character development deserves because the vast majority of people that are playing videogames are just a bunch of ignorant babies and fanboys/groupies for characters but i guess that if you sold 4 millions copies in 3 days is fair that some people will be offended and will spread just hate.

The entire game it felt like I was being preached to rather than immersed in the story. “Revenge bad” and violence is a double edged sword I get it. Another thing is that they basically tried to copy paste the same relationship that Joel and Ellie have with Abby and the Lev. It’s lazy AF.
In short I don’t care for them and they kill off the person I did care for. All for the sake of what?
Getting the message beat into me? WOKENESS?!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    * НО *

THE LAST OF US PART || -

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel like the vast majority of those reviewing the game saw spoilers and immediately gave it a negative rating.

I just finished the game and it was incredible, Abby and Ellie are great leads and their struggle against eachother hurt me in so many ways.

This story is fantastic and I genuinely think the people badmouthing this game have NO IDEA what they're talking about.

9/10. Maybe if I was more upset about visual glitches I'd give it an 8.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great gameplay, amazing audio design, incredible voice acting, perfect graphics. The Last Of Us Part 2 is basically a masterpiece. The games physics were so accurate I didn’t even know this was a game. Seattle was definitely a great setting to explore. The game is more open than the first one and that’s what makes it great. I only have one problem with this game. The ending, it was so unbelievably dumb and you can tell it was just lazy writing. Aside from that The Last Of Us Part 2 is a masterpiece. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Giving it a 4, the game play was great, the graphics were great and flash backs you get to play in were just like the first TLOU. Tho False Advertisement of Joel being with us in the main story and the disappointing story/ending. All that and forcing us to play as the character that killed Joel for 60% of the game..... Sooo much more I can say but yeah TLOU 2 I wouldn’t recommend. Expand

There's a lot to like about Last of us Part 2 and there are some story elements which can be seen to be out of place. The pacing is also a issue. But saying that, although the pacing and how they get to the end is a bit messy, it still hits a lot of the same notes seen in the first game. The gameplay and visuals are are second to none and graphically, I don't think we'll see better on consoles this generation. Lastly, what the story does do is give a lot of fuel to a third game and that may and probably will bring part 2 into a different light for those who are disappointed with it at this present time. It'll age well once people play through again and have time to digest and comprehend the story. It's not perfect but still a great solid entry into the series and a 9/10 for me. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game was fine until Elle started acting like someone on drugs and making terrible life decisions that effected everyone around her. I was then forced to play as a bulked up female character, Abby, who I didn’t care anything about. Worse, I needed to collect the same things Elle collected and level Abby up which just seemed boring and grindy as hell. At this point I just turned on all the in game mods to make the game easy to play and get me thru this as quickly as possible. The guy who wrote this insanity maybe should have had “his” fingers chewed off as punishment. “You only need three of them, right?”

    I wanted to give this game a 2.5 but I couldn’t. So it got a 3.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
