The characters are unlikable, the story is terrible and sometimes when I hit an enemy, the attack went write through them. Also Abby. THE WORST CHARACTER IN THIS SERIES. The game forces us to have sympathy for her when she killed off Joel. WHO WAS ONE OF THE BEST CHARACTERS IN THE FIRST GAME. I will say this though. The graphics are pretty good. But I will never play another last of us game with she man the barbarian. This game hasn’t ruined the first last of us game, but if this is what Naughty Dog is doing with their series from now on. Then count me out

TLoU2 is excellent, understand that a lot of hate comes from people frustrated by being an exclusive, by the representativeness and/or by the unexpected ending - and if you really played and tried to understand the proposal of the game, you know it was an excellent ending. It doesn't always have to be a happy ending.

I purchased the game on release day and somehow managed to play the game unspoiled and didnt hear about the leaks before. So I was really blind to the game - and that just might be the point. I ADORE every piece and part of this game. The characters are so detailed, vivid, emotional,... Naughty Dog just proved once more that there are geniusrd in character and animation design working there. The story is action, hatred, anger but also love and a little laughter and this already in the first 60minutes in game.

Just as the first game totally changed my priciples (I'd never shoot an uninvolved doctor, not even in vid games, but **** it, i shot everyone at the fireflies in part I) this game managed to do this as well. First i HATED to play the second protagonist of the game but more and more, the character developed, i felt pity, i began to understand, i even cried for him/her until everything merged together in an emotional roller-coaster-like climax.

Screw the haters, as most of them didn't even played themselves or IF they did, they were already spoiled and made their bad opinion up in their head already - nothing could change these prejudiced people, they never gave the game a chance.

Play it yourself, unspoiled or try to let yourself into the journey unbiased and you WILL NOT regret it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Filmkörnung, Motion Blur, Depth of Field etc. ...

In retrospect, this is a game i actually wish never came out. I had huge expectations after the first chapter, but the franchise is completely ruined for me now. In short:
Story - 1/4 - The story is not only very much not enjoyable, but also poorly put together. Lots of random flashbacks, the characters aren't developed properly and the player has no choice whatsoever in the outcome of the game. Everything is scripted. Story weights 4 points for me because it should be the selling point of the game, but it was actually so shallow and dislikeable that i seriously can't find almost anything good in it. Only a couple of characters are actually well written and developed. The rest kinda makes you not even want to finish the game.
Longevity - 0/2 - The single player story is something i'd never want to go through again, and compared to the first game there is no multiplayer. 25 hours at best, at least for me.
Graphics and Audio - 2/2 - Not much to say here. The game is visually stunning.
Gameplay - 1/2 - Basically the same gameplay from the first game, nothing wrong with it, but they could have made it a bit more interesting.

    Total: 4/10
What's funny is that they critics are blaming the low user-score on the players, refusing to acknowledge anything wrong with the actual game. Anyone giving this game a 10/10 is clueless.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After 24 hours I finally completed the game and I must say it's just as good if not better than the first game. My only complaints is that maybe you play as Abby for a little too long and gameplay got monotonous, specially on day 2. I understand that some people dislike the choices the writers made but I think they pulled it off in a way I didn't expect, I even played the game having read a lot of spoilers but that didn't take anything away from me because I believe you really have to experience this game and play it for yourself till the end to understand the choices the characters made.

I see some people say that they don't like the game because they don't like abby, but in my opinion the game doesn't really try to make you like her, they make you see that her motives are just as valid as Ellie's for doing what she did and puts thing in a different perspective, and to be honest Abby has some of the most intense and fun parts of the game.

My only issues with the story are Abby's motivations to save Lev and his sister and MAYBE some issues with it's structure, it may have been better to mix up playing as Abby and Ellie a little more but, I get why they didn't do that but still. When seeing Abby's side of the story I really liked all the new characters they introduced and they all felt so fleshed out, specially Owen, I even felt terrible because I already knew what Ellie did to them (this is why I think the game is structured how it is).

Not to mention gameplay was fun and devastating as **** it's the best looking game ever, the soundtrack is so beautiful and push the important moments of the story and the environments have so much detail and love put into them.

My expectations with this game were as high as they come and it met them. I do feel really sad for how divided the fan base will be now and I really wished everyone enjoyed this game as much as I did, but come on people, it's not even close to a 0.

This game is absolutely fantastic. Anybody who is reviewing the game as 0 / 10 is a complete dumbass. The story is extremely deep and thought-provoking. After all these years, it was absolutely worth the wait.

This game is the perfect sequel to the first game, and tackles the themes of loss and sorrow with great passion. The gameplay mechanics are crazy as well. You can be fighting people and you'll hear them screaming when you shoot off their fingers, you can hear people call for their teammates by name (crazy!), and it seems as if every part of the environment is intractable. Every surface you slam somebody against, it's as if that was specifically scripted to happen right there, in that exact place, with that exact method of hitting them (even though it wasn't! love the fighting mechanics they're great.)

This game absolutely deserves the title of best of a generation. How the hell is everyone rating this game 0 / 10?? I mean seriously? You think this game is absolute trash; not even one star worthy? You're an idiot if you believe that. Just because you're saddened by plot elements doesn't make the game bad. That's the entire **** point. You're supposed to feel bad; feel loss. The world isn't a perfect place and the game really tries to get that point across. That doesn't mean the game is bad or that you should review it badly. It means you should perhaps (and I know this is going to ostracize me) play the game? Maybe finish it before you rate it terribly like an idiot?

This game has been in development for almost 6/7 years and it shows. They've put tons of time into creating a game that is a masterpiece. Considering this game hasn't even been out for more than a few days, I seriously doubt 90% of the people reviewing here have even finished the game yet.

I firmly believe that if you review bomb this game like a moron, either one out of two things are true:
    1. You don't even own the game / a playstation
    2. You haven't completed the game / played it at all

I went out of my way to avoid leaks before launch, and did my best to ignore ridiculous **** like this. Naughty Dog, if you read this, you released an amazing game. The actual critics are correct here. This game is absolutely deserving of 9.5 / 10 like they say, 10 / 10 in my book. I literally don't know what could have made this game better. It's a masterpiece.

Don't listen to these people; there is a reason we have actual critics. The game was fantastic, totally worth the wait (love the length of the game). Please continue to curate beautifully written games like this one.

Those of you review bombing, please do two things:

    1. Play the game ENTIRELY. This means beginning to end. Don't stop playing halfway through and go review. Actually finish the damn game
    2. Come back here and re-evaluate the score you gave the game.

Sorry if this post was a little brash. But it's ridiculous; this game is so amazing and it pisses me off that people might not play it based off reviews passed out by idiots who don't play a game before they review it.

TL;DR - Play the game before giving it 0 stars based off what others have said. You dumbass. *for whoever needs to hear it*

I've never cared so much about protagonists in a game before, the only other that comes some what close is Arthur Morgan is RDR2. Thank you, Naughty Dog for this masterpiece. Please continue to be bold and brave in your story telling. You have set the standard again. Please keep doing what you're doing!
    ---

I can only assume people who have review bombed and left incredibly low rated reviews are A) XBox fanboys, B) Fans of other titles that they consider to be the greatest game of all time and do not want TLOU getting that kind of recognition again, C) a combination of both. Note, I'm saying the 'incredibly low ratings' - people can dislike and like different things and that is fine, but the 0's - 4's truly have some weird ulterior motive - if you are looking at reviews to help you decidee, then you can rightfully ignore them. I will say this as well about metacritic - how many of these reviews are verified? 4.5 stars currently on the PS store - those will be ratings from verified purchases.

As for what may be genuine negative reviews... I've seen a few complaints about *spoiler* not enough Joel and Ellie time and the ending because it wasn't a happy fairytale story - I can't help but audibly lol the world the game is set in and even the real world is not some happy fairytale.

As well as complaints about playing as Abby - I must admit, early on, I was really not happy about this, but after completing the game, I think this was brilliant from ND. The world is not black and white, Good and evil, there's different shades of grey. Joel was a bad person after Sarah - that much was made clear by Tommy in the 1st game, Tommy talks about having nightmares from their time together. There was a vaccine that would help heal the world. Joel, although most of us would do the same, if given an in game option to do so may I add, stopped that and saved Ellie! Whilst we love Ellie, it's the selfish and wrong thing to do. He killed innocent people. What we do in the game as Ellie is seek revenge, which is exactly what Abby and her crew did... but instead she let Tommy and Ellie live - Joel kills the surgeon, Abby's Dad and Marlene. The game does a brilliant job of not making that crew come across as just some generic evil bad guys, rather we see them as a part of a community much like Jackson... something else that I thought was good was the crew didn't even know Ellie was after them - they thought she was a Scar/seraphite as that's who they were in conflict with. Abby has some redemption with Yara and Lev and her and Lev's relationship felt some what similar to Joel and Ellie, thrown together through bad circumstances. Before Santa Monica I found myself wanting Ellie to stay at the Farmhouse, although I was happy to get more gameplay, because I knew she may end up alone, which is what she feared most. I think I know Joel would not want her to get revenge, but instead to live happily and peacefully with Dina and JJ.. Ellie however is suffering from PTSD. She cannot stop thinking about Joel.

One thing I may have changed was perhaps maybe play as Abby more before seeing Joel killed, but at the same time, although the most obvious reason why, it was good to find out along the way.

I've sadly also heard people are upset that Ellie is gay and Lev is a trans - to those people, grow up.

A good technical achievement with the graphics and sound on a dated console, but really can't get passed how bad the story and writing is on this game. Was a struggle to finish with the janky controls and repetitive mechanics the first time I've had doubts about any future Naughty Dog titles.

I am offended by the fact that they made an agit poster with good-by-you-know ideas from the good characters initially. I'm silent about Abby.
The plot is bad and without propaganda motives, because there was nothing alive and interesting in it. The plot of the first part was also quite trivial, but they managed to make an interesting game out of it by revealing the relationships and empathy of the main characters. Who, by mercy, tell me to empathize with me here? After the ending of the first part, I thought that the game would continue the already strained relationship of Ally and Joel after he deceived her, but no. Eat Abby with all her muscles. And again, the plot at the Assassins Creed level is revenge, murder, aaaaaaaa.
I do not recommend either buying, or even thinking about buying at a discount. See the passage.

A story driven game has to have good writing, few plot holes, and consistent characters. I was very disappointed By the lack of heart this game had. The game play was consistent with the first game but not noticeably improved. The insult that you spend 10 hours playing someone who murdered one of the two lead characters from the first game is a slap in the face. I will however, say the graphics were exceptional. Expand

I can understand the criticisms regarding Joel's death, regarding the fact that Joel trusted a stranger. But they have to admit that the story is on another level ... The message of the story is incredible, how revenge ended up ruining his life and ended up destroying the only thing that joel left him (playing the guitar).
Again, the soundtrack is something perfect and that fits every moment of the game.

Thus it may well be my favourite game of all time. An utterly astounding work that forces the player to confront their own assumptions and explores the dangers of othering individuals and groups.

The way the game progresses and varies it's encounters brings to mind Resident Evil 4. Using it's core stealth and combat mechanics that are then twisted by enemy combinations, environmental factors, arena design and more. These core mechanics are absolutely rock solid and then used as a foundation for game design that keeps them constantly feeling fresh.

The graphics are phenomenal as is the score and voice acting. The writing feels like it's actually been written as opposed to simply plotted or scripted, perhaps even dramaturged. However rather than simply emulate film or television it tells a story in a way that could only be done in an interactive medium, a radical and bold structure that encourages you to wallow in the grin satisfaction of necessary violence done well and then asks you to reconsider and recontextulaise what you have done.

It's a masterpiece and the first game in years (in fact probably since Resident Evil 4!) that I binged and finished in a matter of days. Highly, highly recommended.

Don’t buy into these journalists’ 10/10 reviews. This game has a serious pacing issue. The character development also makes zero sense. They turned Ellie into an absolute killing monster that murders hundreds upon hundreds of people, but in the end she just gave up doing the one thing she was set out to do. This kind of character development makes no sense. Abby is also so poorly portrayed that I just can’t feel for her for the things that she did to Joel. If you want people to play as a new character, you need a MUCH better character introduction. Overall, this is a poorly written and poorly directed game that doesn’t deserve a 10/10 score in any way. Those who dislike the game and give it a zero are overly attached to a preconceived notion of what the game "should" be. Their hero worship of Joel prevents them from being receptive to the greater story. It's sad, their blind hatred of the game only proves the point that the game makes.

There’s not an happy ending, it’s a story to reflect, it is supposed to make you feel something. It’s like that movie when you don’t like the end because it’s too human and it’s not happy. I felt so many emotions, me as part of the LGBTQ+ community felt embraced and represented, I wanted to stop playing when they were having that idyllic life because it was too wholesome. I felt angry when I was forced to continue pursuing Abby. But life is like this in so many ways. Right now I feeling angry because I am forced to stay at home without a job. Also really well done to talk about homophobia and put more representation in it, I think it’s the first time that I see an openly gay main character, strong and not letting pass any kind of disrespect for her being a lesbian.
Characters were well developed, many times it felt like I was with real people playing and every time I’d go in a journey alone I actually felt alone.

This game is a pill hard to swallow, not in a bad way, it’s just because I’d write the story differently giving a happy life in the end. I think that’s why people didn’t like, because we want to find some hope in the end and this one gave us nothing but imagination of what will happen next, and Ellie ended up alone, that really got me since her fear was to end up alone, that was so sad. So if you guys are planning a sequel either to finish the series of them trying to find a cure, and giving a happy life to Ellie so her existence has some meaning in the last of us world, bc right now all I can feel about her is sorry and she being my favourite character is like heartbreaking.

I have to admit I didn’t wanted to play with Abby, I was reluctant and killed her many times lol but I started to like her in the end, not a big like but it just shows again how human this video game is, showing that everything has 2 sides and we can easily apply this to real life.

This game has loads to think and process so people that are not open to accept what it brings and are projecting their own frustrations towards it will not really get it.
Also congratulations to take the risk and put minorities in it. I saw a bunch of people get really mad about it and show their homophobic beliefs.

I disagree with loads of stuff in this game but it doesn’t change the fact that is amazing. Will play again and please, it not a part 3, at least give us a DLC!

The poor reviews are most likely by people that haven’t even finished the game, trolls or just some people commenting on it based on the leaks without truly understanding the game. Or just people butt-hurt over the fact that some characters in the game are not exactly like them. The story is rough, gruesome, conflicting and often heart-breaking. The Last of Us is not a happy game, and anyone expecting any different should probably find something else to play. This will truly lead you through a roller coaster of emotions.
It's the most beautiful game I've ever seen, with stunning character design and gorgeous environment. The hair, the eyes, the voice-acting, the performance, the lightning - unlike any other game. In cutscenes, you can really feel the emotions coming from the characters, see it on their faces, hear it in their voice. The infected or the fungus on the walls will leave you disgusted, terrified. The gory mess after blowing up an enemy with a bomb will make you sort of pity them.
The gameplay - the same mechanics as in the first game, but BETTER. You get new equipment, new skills, new weapons. The areas are always huge, sometimes I didn't even know where to go first. This, combined with the ability to crawl under things or squeeze through tight spaces will give you so many opportunities to hide, to kill enemies or to just run away. Sometimes you don't even find enemies if you don't explore certain areas. New people, new infected. Each encounter will keep you on the edge of your seat, not really knowing what to expect. The physics are very realistic.
The story - this is a story of vengeance, how far a person will go to get it and how it can change them. It will make you see that not everything is black and white. Perhaps there is no good and bad. Perhaps not every hero is a hero and not every villain is a villain. They're just people doing what they think is right. It is hard not to say too much and spoil things. I will say that the story made me sad, happy, angry, heart-broken, scared, pissed, conflicted. It made me smile and it made me tear up. And that, I think, is a good thing, because it made me FEEL something. It made me think about what I would do in those situations. As I said, a roller coaster of emotions.
All in all, in my opinion this game is a truly worthy sequel to the first game. Even more frightening and traumatizing. The people that give it a 0 truly don't deserve to give reviews. Naughty Dog took a bold step with this game, and it paid off. Please don't listen to other people's words - try the game for yourself with an open mind and make your own opinion. You may be pleasantly surprised.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played the game twice, even at the major difficulty of SURVIVOR+, exploring every inch and finally awarding my platinum.

    Graphics: 10
The graphics is stunning, facial animations are astonishing and can really make u feel what is going through the characters mind. Stable framerate, high quality.

    Audio and soundtrack: 9.8
Gustavo made another piece of art with this game. The soundtrack fits perfectly within the context of the game, is never invasive and really enhances your emotions when needed.
Also gameplay audio is really good. Environment sounds can really help you to locate enemies, see who they are and what they intend to do, essential to the gameplay.
Sometimes though, enemy location does not fit perfectly the position of the enemies, causing you to panic if you think they are too close. It's not a big problem.

    Environment and level design: 10
The work and craftsmanship of the developers to reconstruct a Seattle won by nature is jawdropping. Everything is exactly where it should be. It's all so green, rainy. Destruction is perfectly represented and the victory of nature over mankind is portrayed in every aspect.
Big shout-out to the level design. Every encounter can be approached in many different ways due to the level design and our gameplay choices. Stealth is favored due to many underground or underwater passages, trucks under which you can hide and most of all it's import that you can sometimes use verticality (something which was completely absent from the first game). Many levels will completely develop vertically.

    Acting: 10
I played the game in the original language. Nothing to say on this, Ashley, Troy and Laura's work was absolutely terrific. Every emotion of the characters, also thanks to the facial animations get to the hearts of the player.

    Gameplay and AI: 9.5
Part I had a great gameplay, but part II makes that gameplay even better in every possible department. The shooting feels a lot better and the RPG components of the game (Supplements and weapon upgrades) really impact the gameplay. Level design makes everything a lot more fun, more weapons and objects to use, etc...
Only downside, although AI has been a lot improved since Part I (both enemies and allies), sometimes your companions do stupid things like pushing you out of cover or walking in front of the enemies (they can't be seen but feels kinda weird playing). Enemies are well organised but in rare cases they can clip and you can just kill them 1 by 1 like a bunch of idiots. Also this is a very minor downside in all the beautiful things that this gameplay offers.

    Longevity and variety: 9.5
My adventure lasted 30 hours. What can you ask more from a so beautiful game?!
The adventure is not only long, but puts in front of many different challenges, which must be approached in many different ways (human bossfights, infected bossfights, infected hordes, scars, wlf soldiers, both wlf and scar soldiers, infected and humans, only shamblers, only stalkers, etc....). All this variety makes sure that the gameplay never makes you bored.

    Story and narrative: 9
The story really is amazing and the level of storytelling is off the charts. The deep diving into the psychology of the characters will be a major milestone in gaming for years. Everything in this game is so emotional. Not a single game ever grazed the level of emotions that are summoned by this game (sadness, hate, desperation, joy, pure emptiness, etc...). The adoption of two storylines crossing each other is extremely beautiful, to see both perspectives and explore both character's minds. The symbolism of the game is also something that can be compared to poetry for how beautiful it is when you can grasp it and understand it.
Every character feels so alive and seeing how they evolve or devolve is another milestone of the game.
Now we get to the cons of the story:
    1) The story hits you extremely hard which is not a bad thing, the downside is that some events are presented in a questionable order. Playing as Abby was a great experience. She and Lev are a great team and they both are great characters, but the game wants you in the first part to hate Abby too much, risking to fail in the second half to make you feel empathy for her or at least understand her actions and her character. The game relies too much on the sensibility of the players in this context, that's why the game is "not for everyone"
    2) Too much symbolism. Symbolism is beautiful and poetic, but sometimes is so concealed that people might think that what happened is just a plot hole. This is another reason why the game is "not for everyone".
    3) Story pacing. Flashbacks are well put in the story, but sometimes they break the player's hype too much, especially at the fight in the theater when the control switches to Abby and to get there again you need to play 10 hours. Overall the Abby gameplay is a little to long.

Anyway, the game is a masterpiece and everyone should try it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay is largely the same as the first game save for some additional actions available to the player and improved fluidity of melee combat. Visuals and audio are top quality for its time, similar to how the graphics and sound were also cutting edge during the time of the first game. Characters, character development, and especially the plot, however, are severely lacking.

The story, plot and character development are a huge step below that of its predecessor. Many characters are bland and uninteresting, serving only to die and perform a cheap way of evoking regret from the player but done so poorly that the player would not even have the time or context to think critically about why or how one would feel sorry for their death apart from them being a human being. (player is already aware of the dog-eat-dog world that is present - why is one more death any different?)

Most of the characters have no personality traits and know only how to make snarky comments about whatever was last said by the character conversing with them. Many of the characters also make uncharacteristic or irrational decisions which then result in major repercussions. It's to the point where it feels that the writers forced characters to make decisions that are not in line with the character just to push the story forward and in the direction the writers wanted them to, whether or not it would make any logical sense in the story's context.

Characters that played a major and irreplaceable role in the first game are suddenly made heavily irrelevant and the player is forced by the narrative to hate them and tries extremely hard to paint clear picture of black and white. The game tries to disguise this but it is quite obvious. As Ellie, you are forced to kill enemies who scream in agony or call out to their deceased comrades or even have to kill animals (which have been proven to always evoke strong emotional responses from people). As the other protagonist, Abby, you mostly fight nameless, stereotypical thugs or a dehumanized group of cultists that make no emotional impact on the player when killed (unlike the WLF enemies Ellie must take on). The story tries so hard to make the player empathise with Abby but her personality and decisions in the game don't allow this. She shows no hesitancy in killing Joel despite having her life saved by him and not even any remorse after brutalising him. She shows no hesitancy and even elation in murdering Dina even after knowing she would be killing her unborn child with her. And after all is said and done, despite the game's theme of revenge, she is let free by Ellie despite her actions throughout the game. Of all the characters, Abby, the only person who succeeded in getting their revenge, was let free while Ellie keeps her life but loses her soul and loses everything despite being the one character that chose the higher path. The story tries so hard to portray this idea that "When seeking revenge, dig two graves" but only one grave is filled and thats of the person who chose the path of redemption instead of revenge.

All in all the story, is forced, undeveloped or arranged in such a way that the player would have to perform an insane amount of mental gymnastics to come to any meaningful conclusion of the message the writers tried to send to the audience (if that was even their intention), the new characters are uninteresting while the old ones have been greatly reduced in terms of what made their characters unique and impactful in the first game and the underlying themes of the game are forcibly pushed onto and unnecessarily overwhelming to the player.

Considering all aspects: gameplay, visual/sound design, characters and the plot, this game was a huge step down from its predecessor due to the fact that what made the original game unique and enjoyable was its unique narrative and characters that had a strong but reasonable roles in the development of the story. These, however, are all lost in this instalment. Moral ambiguity no longer exists as Ellie and Joel's decisions are retconned from the original game and boiled down to "Joel stop cure, denied Ellie's choice at sacrifice (although in the original game Ellie isn't even given the choice, she is kept sedated by the scientists without telling her the risks of their procedure and attempt actively to prevent Joel from saving her) and killed Fireflies = evil and deserved his death" and "Ellie left behind her life to pursue Abby and therefore deserved to lose her soul (being able to play the guitar, Dina and their child, Jesse). Abby is constantly painted in a good light and even given almost half of the game to make the player empathise with her despite not even being advertised as a protagonist of the game.

    Final Rating:
1/10 great visuals/sound, ok gameplay but, garbage story and new characters, ND/Sony false advertisement of the game, disrespect for the characters which made TLoU great, endless agenda pandering

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us creators have always described it as a story-driven game. Its story is, undoubtedly, one of the most relevant aspects of it. It's what differentiated TLOU1 from other Zombie-like survival games of that time and what made it one of the best games of the year it released.
Enter TLOU2. First things first: Amazing graphics, one of the best ones I've ever seen in the PS4. Gameplay-wise it retains most of the mechanics of TLOU1 with some AI improvements: it won't bring much innovation to the table and the developers decided to play it safe, seeing how well they work in TLOU1. The lack of innovation is accentuated by its lack of multiplayer mode, and The game becomes somewhat repetitive towards its end with the QTEs becoming incredibly predictable.
This could all be forgiven, though, if the story made up for it. After all, this is a story-driven game, and its story was one of, if not the best, aspects of its predecessor. But as you may all know already, the story is complete rubbish. Most fans would infer that Joel would die in this series, but his death was nonsensical and out-of-character, and the consequences of it were unsatisfying. The game is linear and doesn't allow choices to be made, and in some parts while playing as Ellie you will be forced to do acts you don't want to do only to have the game scold you for having made them, which doesn't make any sense. Compare it to games like Telltale's The Walking Dead, where you made hard choices and faced the consequences of them, or Spec Ops: The Line, where the game forced you to make bad choices, but you didn't know it at the time you made them.
Inconsistency is also a key part of this story. In the latter part of the game you play as Abby, the woman who killed Joel. Not only does the game NOT scold you for the horrible things you do as Abby, but it tries so hard to make you empathize with her and justify her actions that it even comes off as hypocritical towards Ellie. Given that Joel was a beloved character in the series, this comes off as just pretentious writing, bringing the dread and depression of the game to the point of exaggeration.
The ending is just as bleak, forced, and disappointing as the whole story of the game is. It almost feels that the creators of the game wanted this game to make you feel miserable for playing it; which can be a good thing, but they forced this guilt on you so hard that it just wants you to not touch this game anymore.
Games can get away with shallow and almost nonsensical plots if the rest of its parts make up for it. But TLOU never wanted to be one of these games. They relied heavily on the story, and the story was a complete mess. That's why it earns a 3/10.

I want to talk about this game soo bad. But if I start I will run out of space, truthfully. The story and pacing is just terrible past one hour. It also seemed as if check every kind of diversity box there is, and there’s nothing wrong with that it just seemed forced that’s it.

The game is good the story is not for everybody.

How do you top one of the best games of all time? By making it bigger, badder and more focused. The Last of Us Part 2 is unsettling at times, but that gives its story and theme more impact. This is a grown-up experience through and through and a fine example of gaming as art.

Basically this game is a much better version of the last of us part 1 in terms of graphics and mechanics, BUT the story is an absolute piece of garbage, killing JOEL, (THE SAME MAN THAT DESTROY AN ENTIRE ARMY OF TRAINED SOLDIERS BY HIMSELF) in that stupid way, leaving behind the father-daughter connection of the first game that give chills to anyone and having a harsh 10 hours of gameplay with the least remarkable character of the game is just sad.
I think we all agree that this is not the way we wanted the game to go but, THERE IS MORE
The final..... just......i dont have words..... its just so trash that I want to take this game from the canonical story of the last of us

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After 7 years of anticipation for the next chapter in this series that many avid gamers such as myself who hold the original in such high regard, this mediocre attempt of a sequel tarnishes the original's legacy and decides to bash the players over the head with its ham-fisted political agenda and ideologies. The plot is contrived and tries to be cleverer than it actually is. The old characters are either a shell of their former selves or are just completely different from what they were before and make dumb decisions. The new characters are either bland, one dimensional or just plain terrible and any chance of any of them developing is short lived. As a longtime fan of Naughty Dog and all their works, I have never lost respect for a developer as quickly as I did for Naughty Dog. They should be ashamed of themselves for blatant false advertising in the trailer, having the trailers deceive fans into believing that they will go on the journey as Ellie with Joel by her side. FALSE Joel is barely even in the game and the scenes he is in are just pointless flashbacks and not to mention that you only play as Ellie for only half of the game, more or less. The absolute nerve the developers had to try and pull a page out of Kojima's book and have the player play as a character that they despise and think that you'll grow to empathise with her is something that will go down in gaming history as one of the worst decisions of gaming development. The reason why the switch worked more for Kojima is pretty simple: Raiden didn't kill any beloved characters. Gender and identity politics have no place in being in a game like this. In a world ravaged by a deadly fungus and infected , survival and knowing whom to trust or not to, are the most paramount things to care about in the game's world, not what your gender or sexual orientation is. If this is the route that lies in wait for the new generation of gaming that is approaching then I will no longer be apart of this community. True gamers like myself play these games as a form of escapism, not to be bogged down with political messaging that's about as subtle as using gasoline to put out a fire. If you loved everything about the original game then you'll be doing yourself a favour by not buying this game, or hell even renting it. I have never written a review or anything like this on these types of sites but the way this game affected me for the wrong reasons I just had to put my thoughts into words. RIP Joel, you deserved better Expand

Killing the main character off in the cruelest way possible and then slapping us in the face by making us play half the game as his killer? I waited 7 years for this? You misrepresented the trailers by making us think he was more involved in the story and you should be ashamed of yourselves. Expand

Nic tak dobrze nie streszcza fabuły nowego The Last of Us, jak to jedno zdanie z epilogu.
O stracie i radzeniu sobie z nią, o niesprawiedliwości, przemocy, i uprzedzeniach, o ślepocie nienawiści i bezcelowości zemsty oraz o spokoju jaki daje wybaczenie.

The video game is unique and tells that in a cruel and destroyed world people fight to live and that in this world there are no good or bad all do the best they can to survive, in this world it is very difficult for there to be worthy deaths but there are still hope...

In conclusion, it is a spectacular video game with beautiful graphics, a well-made soundtrack and a memorable story.
